I think that Julian, as someone who was genetically augmented, would have a really interesting perspective on the Vorta and their treatment but unfortunately Deep Space Nine didn’t think about that when they decided to just ignore that part of the dominion storyline
Thinking of a relatively young Vorta who hasn’t encountered the concept of table decor plucking a rose out of a vase to munch on the petals and dipping their breadstick in the melted candle wax.
Saw this yesterday. Should I have said something? Aren’t their ears sensitive? He’s smiling but idk if he’s happy :(
Rating: Not Cute
You're correct to assume that he's unhappy. The expression being exhibited here is very clearly that of a Vorta who is suppressing discomfort. Note the narrow eyes, and the forced tightness of the smile. To see what actual happiness looks like in a Vorta, refer to this post. Although, as I mentioned in my most recent post, Vorta are very tactile and enjoy lots of physical contact, they must be approached gently and carefully, as discomfort suppression is (unfortunately) part of the standard training of many Vorta. Any non-Dominion personnel who are going to be interacting with Vorta for long periods of time would be wise to learn what it looks like when a Vorta is hiding their discomfort and act accordingly.
