Rewatching some DDD boss fights for reasons and I’m currently in a state of amusement at Holey Moley.

Wargoyle, Spellican, the Clawbsters, Hockamonkey - they all hit hard and fast and throw their worst at you. But not Holey Moley. Holey Moley is ridiculously easy in terms of not getting damaged or dying. What he does is drag out the length of the fight and be frustrating because he goes and hides, and Riku can’t leave the room without killing him because who knows where he’ll go next if left unchecked, and basically, Holey Moley is playing a great game of hide-and-seek because he can afford to. Is he self-aware? Does he know he’s an enemy? And he’s just trying to prank this kid by making himself harder and harder to find and slay? Ohhhh nooooo, I could have gotten anywhere in the opera house by now! Better come kick my butt before I obliterate the audience!

And I’m always a sucker for gameplay that asks you to do something different, and no, this isn’t radically different from the KH boss formula, but it plays almost like a minigame rather than a boss fight focused on survival. It’s not about whether or not you’ll last the next five minutes; it’s about how many times you yell at the screen because the STUPID JERK TELEPORTED AWAY. And I think that’s cool, because it takes a lot more of the stress off the idea of evasion and gives you a boss that you instead need to actively pursue to get anywhere. (Don’t worry. If you saved Symphony of Sorcery for last, you’ll have plenty of time to get used to evasion tactics again with the Spellican.)

Hey here’s what my wizzy ocs (currently, might update/edit every now and then) look like and a lil blurb about them (though I literally just got the new graphics patch and they look so weird 😭 it’s the eyes, the eyes are so different and unnerving)

Evan Crow

Evan is my main and the one I’ve had pretty much forever! (my old old characters were lost to time but. I’ve had him for a few years!! Which is also why he has two pets and two mounts, plus a few more in his house haha oops. Battle havox and Orio [frankenbunny] are the main ones though! I don’t use Vaden because they don’t have any good abilities and midnight harrowings are more for serious questing) He’s death primary balance secondary and is 19 years old! He has main character syndrome and ✨trauma✨ bc Ambrose thought it was a good idea to send a preteen (at the time) out to save the world. 😐 He’s kinda cynical because of it but overall pretty friendly and is personality is most like mine since he’s also kinda my sona! In relation to my ocs and their sorta universe he’s like. The genuine main character/goes through the main storyline, though the others do kind of go though it in their own way! He’s the one that REALLY does all the dirty work/is “the hero” so to speak though!! He has ADHD, OCD, GAD, and MDD (not because he’s like my sona and those are the disorders I have or anything ahaha //sweats) His pets are Vaden (harrowed bones) and Orio (frankenbunny)! Vaden is trying their best and Orio is no thoughts, head empty. He loves them both to death, but Orio is is questing buddy! His house is the battlemage keep and his hobbies are gardening, crafting, and fishing! I wouldn’t mind a few other mounts for him but I don’t need them/they’re not dream items!

Quinn Stargiver

Quinn is myth primary life secondary and is 17 years old! He’s quiet but not shy, more like keeps to himself. He’s pretty blunt and can come off as an asshole but is really just not in the mood to put with with shit (he will for his friends tho). Fun fact about Quinn actually: he has a mount so he doesn’t really have to worry about this as much now but before he used magic to get around/see! Kinda like putting out magic as “feelers”/like how echolocation kinda gives you an image in your head :0 literally. The only neurotypical here other than Cole HFSLFDSH  His pet is Plucky Belle (wargoyle) and she is a little DIVA that gets babied by Quinn, that’s his QUEEN. His hobby is pet breeding and his house is the wooded cottage (or at least I THOUGHT it was but I don’t own it yet, sob). Dream mount is astral unicorn!

Nora Stormsong

Nora is storm primary fire secondary and is 16 years old! She’s J O C K S U P R E M E and overall very hyperactive and happy-go-lucky! The physical embodiment of >:3c, chronic dumbass disease. She gets into a lot of trouble and is impulsive at times but she fucking loves magic, and loves adventure even more!! Has rlly bad ADHD but has honestly just given up caring at this point. Her pet is Bandit (fenris), he’s a feisty boy but loyal to Nora! She doesn’t currently have a hobby but might take up socketing, and she’s living in the dorms! Dream pet is tarantula hawk! I actually also have the new fangle (which is living over at Evan’s) and I really love that mount for Nora but I just... couldn’t get the colors to work. :,)

Victoria Goldthistle

Victoria is balance primary ice secondary and is 17 years old! You know that popular kid that always seems to have it together, looks hot as FUCK, gets good grades, and is honestly sort of regal, but as soon as you get to know them you realize they’re actually really struggling and isn’t as much as an asshole as you took them for? Yeah, that’s Victoria. Always carries herself with an air of grace, acts apathetic and “cold” (haha ice joke), comes from an upstanding family, and cares way too much about her appearance as a result. But in reality, she’s actually very sweet in her own way, and her laugh is the warmest thing you’ll ever hear! Cares deeply for her friends and her grades, although she’s struggling a little bit because of ADHD. (No I will not stop giving my characters ADHD, it’s MY disorder and I get to choose the coping mechanism) She also has an unnamed anxiety disorder (unnamed because I can’t decide or unnamed because she isn’t diagnosed/getting professional help? The answer is Yes) She doesn’t currently have any hobbies but might take up photomancy, socketing, or crafting, and lives in the dorms! Dream mount is desert racer or jeweled scarab and dream pet is pink cactus hopper!

Cole Silverbreeze

Cole is life primary (I haven’t decided on a secondary yet) and is 19 years old! If we’re being honest I have two directions I could take his character in that I haven’t decided between, one soft and wholesome and one... not so nice. I can’t choose!! On one hand Evan deserves Nice Things (as he’s Evan’s future partner) but on the other hand,, hrnrngngn life villain hrnrnrnngnggggg angst. I’m honestly worried the dark turn would be too heavy though so... idk! At this point he’s just one big bucket of potential! His hobby is gardening and he lives in the dorms! Dream mount is wild hare(?) or bruin ram(?) and dream pet is golden ram(?)

ALRIGHT that was it!! I hope you enjoyed this Proper Introduction to my characters since,, tbh I spent a lot of time on it!! Here’s to seeing where the story will go 👀👀 (also if you have any questions please ask me about my characters I will cry happy tears)

Finally finished the final chapter of Birth By Sleep (*gross sobbing*), watched the glorified cutscene gallery that was Re:coded, and moved on to the 2.8 collection.

I am really liking Dream Drop Distance. I missed Traverse Town! I enjoyed getting to see new bits of it! I have not yet played The World Ends With You but getting to meet some of the characters was pretty interesting (also I get the feeling that part where Joshua takes off *cough* is a major TWEWY spoiler but oh well). The Dream Eaters are maybe a little cutesy and twee for my taste, and even with dye jobs and their little plumb bobs I keep getting my pet Dream Eaters confused with the ones I’m supposed to be beating up. It’s fun to play with them, though.

Sad that we did not get to punch Frollo right in his mug before he took his swan dive in either version of that world, God I hate that fucking guy so much. Had to start the Wargoyle fight over with Riku because somehow he glitched through the heat wave thing, fell all the way to the ground, and just kind of hovered there unable to do anything. 

Finally: hhhhhhhhh Tron World

Listen. I have mixed feelings about Legacy. It had its good moments. It had its... less than good moments. It had a number of less than good moments. This did not make me any less giddy about seeing a new and improved Recognizer flying around. ...oh my god Sora no do not chase the Recognizer. Anyway, I have not yet seen Riku in digital finery and am looking forward to that. Also I hope we can fix Tron and even more than that, I hope at least one of our heroes gets to kick CLU in the bits-n-bytes because fuck that program.

Not the Bl00dy anon but BB was saying not cheesing KH2 is rewarding and can be done easily, not cheesing BBS is an uphill battle and isn't particularly fun, it's not balanced right, KH2 was.

Not cheesing BBS can be loads of fun. I mean I can’t stand Lingering Will or Phantom Aqua, but Mysterious Figure leaves me completely rolling with laughter.

This is always something I come back to in regards to the idea that KH2 is somehow more rewarding.

(BBS Turning Point - 29:20 - “And finally, after hours and hours of failing, you finally beat it. And isn’t that satisfying?”)

No. No, it’s really not. What BB and you are confusing with a satisfying feeling is more a sense of relief that it’s done. Lingering Will is considered the crown-jewel of the stagger-fest that KH2 swiftly became, and it’s an extremely boring, static, almost turn-based encounter.

I had more fun with half the bosses in BBS and DDD than I ever had with Lingering Will. KH2′s overuse of the Revenge Value mechanic made the game extremely stale and boring, something that was fixed in KH3 by reducing the amount you could stagger anyone and making fights a lot more dynamic overall.

Also the glut of big bosses, which people just accept won’t stagger so Osaka Team could sneak their “No Stagger” past the player like the cheeky bastards they are.

I actually liked the Command Deck system because it meant I had to think about what I was taking into a particular fight, as well as think about how to use them. Yeah, the fact that I could be hit out of certain moves meant I had to think about when I actually activated them to get the most damage out of Shadowbreaker (still the best ability ever made) or Ars Solum. I had to make good use of my Slide Dash or Zantatsuken to deal some quick damage and gain some distance. I had to think about how I was going to get my damage in while weaving through the enemy’s onslaught.

I LOVED the Vanitas, Xehanort and Eraqus fights specifically for this reason.

Sometimes enemies got too aggressive, but I’d rather they be too aggressive than too static and dull. Sure Julius sucks, but there’s Heroic Wargoyle who’s more satisfying than Lingering Will could ever be.

Remember: KH2 was criticized for being “Too Easy” and “Too Button Mashy” rather than “Balanced.” For a while it was the lowest-ranked game in the series. And I remember that. You guys aren’t fooling anyone.
