If money was no object, would you change your wardrobe? >> If money were no object, absolutely, because I could then stop settling for clothing that doesn’t quite fit well or has bad textures just because they’re within my budget or because I can’t afford replacements. Also, maybe I could get stuff custom-made instead of dealing with whatever the stores deign to sell.
How do you/did you get to school? >> I took a bus for most years, but for junior and senior year I lived in a town with no school bus system so I walked.
Have you ever been in trouble for something you honestly didn't do? >> Yeah, a lot when I was young. I guess I make a great scapegoat.
Is the idea of having a secret admirer creepy or romantic? >> If an admirer doesn’t overstep my boundaries and doesn’t expect me to reciprocate whatever it is they’re feeling, then it’s fine, I don’t care. I’ll take any positive attention I can get.
What was the last song you sung out loud? >> I don’t remember.
Have you ever had to have a pet put down? >> No.
Were you excited to learn to drive, or scared? >> I never had this experience. I did drive Sparrow’s car around a school parking lot once, and that was pretty fun.
What was the last book you read? >> Recursion by Blake Crouch.
Did you enjoy it, or were you glad to be finished? >> I enjoyed it immensely.
Do you ever wonder what other people are thinking when they stare at you? >> Yes, because I’m quick to assume they’re thinking something negative but I’m aware enough to know that I might be wrong. But to be honest, I really don’t like being stared at for any reason, so I mostly just wish they’d stop.
Have you ever gone out of your way to get someone's attention? >> I don’t think so.
When was the last time you felt desperate? >> Earlier last week.
When was the last time you felt incredibly tired? >> This morning, before I had a galaxy-brain moment and put on a pair of sunglasses to mitigate the overwhelming amount of daylight streaming into the apartment and overloading my nervous system. Just because I know I’m sensory-defensive doesn’t mean I always remember to, like, defend my senses. lmao.
What candy cane flavor is your favorite? >> I don’t have a favourite.
What is one thing a guy can do, but a woman shouldn't? >> ---
In your opinion, who doesn't deserve to be famous? >> ---
Do you get angry when fast food restaurants mess up your order? >> I get upset, because it upsets me to have the Wrong food. But most of the time when I’m really upset about it it’s because I’d only noticed by the time we got home, or something, and I can’t do anything about it. If I notice while we’re still in or near the restaurant, then I don’t get nearly as upset because I can just... go fix it.
Have you ever had a ridiculous hair cut? >> I mean, probably.
What was your favorite elective class in high school? >> ---
Did you ever wish you could be homeschooled? >> No. Was it hard for you to get up this morning? >> Not really.
Have you ever had a dream so realistic you could've sworn it happened? >> Yeah.
When was the last time you colored with crayons or colored pencils? >> I don’t remember the last time I coloured in general (I usually colour with markers, anyway).
Can you remember the first survey you filled out? >> No way, lol.
Do you have any mental disorders? >> I could probably be diagnosed with a couple, but formal diagnosis really doesn’t interest me at this point. I have enough of an idea of what psychological criteria I fit that I can look up resources to help myself (and I have a direction to point SSI towards when it’s time to Prove My Disability To The Government), and that’s really all that matters right now.
Do you feel comfortable talking about these disorders, if you have them? >> *shrug* I mean, I guess you could say that.
Where did you go on your last field trip? >> ---
What do you do when someone pushes their views on you? >> No one does that, really. I mean, I don’t even know how they would, considering how unfazed by social pressure I usually am. Dogma just doesn’t stick to me.
Are you able to agree to disagree? Or do you have to have the last word? >> I’m perfectly willing to agree to disagree.
Do you think you make a good first impression? >> Not always.
Do other people's first impressions stick with you? >> It depends on what my first impression was. If it was like “oh my god this person really comes off like a bigot”, yeah, that’s going to stick until explicitly proven otherwise. If it was like “oh hmm this person seems to be in a bad mood” then like, whatever. Moods change. Sometimes you just catch people on a bad day and that doesn’t mean they hate you forever.
Are you friends who you thought they were when you first met? >> ---
How have you changed in the past year? >> I really don’t know how to track this.
How about in the past five years? >> This is a little easier to track, because five years ago I didn’t even live here. But I don’t really have the energy to like, lay it all out in words right now.
What do you do when you feel like giving up on something? >> Sometimes I just give up on it. Other times I take a break. Other times I have a meltdown. Other times I push through.
Have you ever had to give up on someone? >> Yeah.
Would you rather break up with someone, or them break up with you? >> ---
Is there a cover song you like better than the original version? >> There are quite a few songs like that for me.
Do you think it's okay to like a cover more than an original? >> Who the fuck is going to stop me...?
What band do you wish was still making music? >> Meh.
Do you still watch any cartoons? >> Sure, I watch cartoons.
Are you just too lazy to recycle? >> I guess, more or less. I also don’t really see the value in it anymore. Reducing and reusing seem to have more immediate effects that I can observe in my own life; recycling is just another industry with its own emissions problems at this point.
Think of the last person you talked to--do you love him/her? >> Sure.
Do you fit your zodiac sign? >> My natal chart seems to be an astute character sheet for me.
What is one of your weak points? >> I don’t know.
What is one of your strong points? >> Meh.
Are you calm in emergency situations? >> More often than not, yeah. Unless said emergency situation includes a lot of environmental stimuli, in which case that will frazzle me (although the situation itself might not).
When was the last time you cursed at someone? >> As in, with the intent of being mean, not just cursing in conversation? I really don’t remember.
Are you afraid of losing someone you love? >> I’m always afraid of losing Can Calah.
Who are you most attached to? >> ^
What do you depend on other people for? >> Most of my quality of life, seeing as I can’t live off this government income alone.
Are you good at reading other people's body language? >> I don’t know, maybe.
Do you like facial hair? How about chest hair? >> It’s fine.
If you have a favorite number, how did you choose it? >> I didn’t really choose it, it’s kind of just... I don’t know. It’s part of the fabric of my reality or something blah blah blah.
What goes through your mind when someone breaks up with you? >> I mean... wouldn’t that depend on the specific breakup...
What goes through your mind when someone asks you out? >> ^ (But also in general, I’m going to react defensively to being asked out because... I don’t date, and anyone asking me out either doesn’t know me well enough to even initiate that sort of intimacy or doesn’t care that I’m aromantic, which is not a good look either way.)
Do you match your shoes with your outfit? >> My shoes match with all my outfits.
Do you style your hair daily? >> No.
Who was the last person to compliment your appearance? What'd they say? >> I don’t remember. I think the only person that really compliments my appearance these days is Sparrow, anyway. Is there any movie you just can't stand to watch? >> Yeah.
What do you think of pornography? >> I mean, it serves a purpose.
What hair products do you use regularly? >> Shampoo. Also this tea tree oil stuff that I don’t know if it works or not but I don’t have a better idea.
Does it bother you when people use extremely bad grammar? >> No. Most of the time “bad” grammar isn’t an impedence to communication, so I don’t see what the big deal is. (Obviously if you’re writing for, say, an academic journal, there is a certain standard of writing one should be following. But people are always complaining about bad grammar on, like, tumblr, and who fucking cares? Ain’t nobody being graded on mastery of Strunk’s Elements of Style here.)
Do you have a hard time talking about sex with the opposite gender? >> Er, one’s gender isn’t what determines how comfortable I am talking about sex with them.
Do you feel more comfortable with a male or female doctor/nurse? >> There’s something to be said about the lack of compassion that male doctors often display towards people who are perceived as female, which I do take into account, but ultimately I figure it’s still about the individual doctor and not whatever configuration their chromosomes are in. I’ll take a competent, compassionate male doctor just like I’d take a competent, compassionate female doctor.
Have you ever had major surgery? >> No.
Could you go a month without speaking? >> I think it would be rather inconsiderate for me to go a month without speaking to Sparrow. I have had periods of selective mutism, of course, especially during depressions, but if it lasted long enough I would eventually have to make some attempt to work around it.
What goes through your mind when you see someone very obese? >> I mean, nothing specific.
How about when you see someone very thin? >> Once again, nothing specific.
Is there any food you don't like that a lot of others do? >> Yeah, milk chocolate.
Have you ever followed a trend? If so, what was it? >> When I was younger, certainly. You know, when I actually paid attention to trends. I have no idea what’s even trendy right now, except like... VSCO? Is that still a thing? Shit moves too fast these days, man.
Have you ever started a trend, even a small one? >> Not to my knowledge.
What was the last thing you bragged about? >> I don’t know.

a narcissa black intro post
Tumblr media
( milena tscharntke, eighteen, cis-female ) my goodness, is NARCISSA BLACK back? it’s been a while since the PUREBLOOD has been around the castle, but I’d recognize HER anywhere. rumor has it the FIFTH YEAR spent the years aligned with the NEUTRALS. but I hear they’re still DUTIFUL & ELEGANT and SEVERE & CONTRADICTORY. and the SLYTHERIN still reminds me of a mist of overwhelming perfume, the gentle clatter of fine dishes breaking a tense silence, the awed quiet that fills every corner of a museum, a lump catching in a dry throat, an ornate frame distracting from a dark themed painting, and lips plump with an unnatural red. well, then, I guess some things never change.
hey,  hey,  you guys! i’m alex and i’ll be bringing narcissa here. i’ve been rping on tumblr for a long time, marauders era has always been my favorite.  i have a lot of passion for strong, bad bitches, they’re my jam. so i’m excited to play ice queen narcissa. i’m down for all sorts of plots, especially stuff that springs up organically. mostly because i’m a terrible, disorganized mess of a planner. i’m a bartender, so weekends can get busy for me, but lbr i’m always lurking on mobile.
you can contact me on here in those dms, or my discord is @ alex //#7484
character inspiration: sansa stark (got), eleanor young / astrid leong-teo (crazy rich asians), amy march (little women)
check out her ( pinterest )
whelve: (v.) to bury something deep; to hide
the positive (+): dutiful, elegant, meticulous, thoughtful, subtle, self-assured, immovable, proud, practical
the negative (-): severe, contradictory, deceitful, vengeful, cold, bitter, haughty, petty, narcissitic
aesthetic inspiration: a mist of overwhelming perfume; the gentle clatter of fine dishes breaking a tense silence; the awed quiet that fills every corner of a museum; a lump catching in a dry throat; an ornate frame distracting from a dark themed painting; lips plump with an unnatural red; the gentle clink of pearls; lipstick smudged on the lip of a teacup; thickly gilded frames; delicate fingers brushing aside wisps of hair; pointed heels abandoned at the bottom of a staircase; forced laughter through painted lips; a paintbrush gliding over a crisp canvas; skirts skating over cream-colored thighs; half filled decanters; a thorn pricking an unsuspecting fingertip; the slow build of a concerto; hedges cut to blunt perfection
your girl’s eyeliner is sharp as knives, lips red as bluuud, nails filed to perfection, heart cold, and her smile sweet enough to eat.
you’ve heard it before, narcissa is stone cold. the world could be tumbling around her and this blonde would remain  unshaken.  she is a proud and stalwart figure in the face of chaos. she’s rather good in a crisis, she has to be with a family like her’s and in these dark days. many imagine her to be weak, a simple creature meant for beautiful things. the wilting flower of the black family tree. at one time she might have been, but those who know her properly know her to be someone to look towards in uncertainty.
but she is also a hopeless romantic gone to rot. she is distant, as untouchable as a masterpiece in the museum that is her picture perfect life. a thing more suitable for admiration than intimacy. she is cold, stoic, and strong, but also lonely.
there is a feeling that no matter your connection to narcissa, that no matter your efforts, there is always something hidden within that she is keeping to herself. and it’s true. there is nothing narcissa would willingly show that she didn’t want people to see.
she insecure and stressed about public image like that.
she is also haughty.
if there’s anything her cousin has taught her, to bloom is to die. she pictures his  escape   and subsequent increase in happiness to be the height of abandonment, of betrayal. how dare he go one to enjoy things without her! how dare he leave. how dare he leave her wanting and missing and heartbroken. she truly misses him and yet goes to great lengths to never reveal her secrets, instead giving her true feelings the form of petty anger and feigned indifference.
the family she’d been proud to be a member of, is crumbling to ash with this war. but if anyone were to care enough to ask, she is grateful for her lot in life. a smile always quick to slide into place, polished and content for the pre-destined plan.
with her current family a shambles, she is afraid to even think of putting together a new family, the arranged marriage in her future is as terrifying as it is inevitable. she feels as though she will lose everything, her family name, the constant presence of her sisters, and her childhood.  it feels like a demotion in title and status after all the notoriety that comes with being a  black.  not to mention her own parents suffering remains fresh as a wound, she can’t imagine she shall ever be happy. why should she be?  indoctrinated as she is, she has eyes.  everything she has witnessed could never be called ideal, as much as it was framed that way. while hope is not her strong suit, narcissa is very capable of love
it’s not often used to describe her, but narcissa is rather selfless and giving towards her loved ones. it’s a redeeming quality that is almost enough to counteract her many failings as a more acceptable version of a kind person. she does, in fact, love and wants to be loved in return.
her removal from hogwarts had been a frightening prospect, as it put a big wrench in the plans that had been set out for her. she was too young and with her education incomplete all meant she was able to put off her marital duties off for the time being
with the last two years open to her, narcissa was quick to move to france to study abroad at beauxbatons. the move was good for her. freeing. the separation from her family allowed the growth of some independence and the fostering of her own interests. she was fully immersed in paris’ culture, language, food, and beauty.
as a lover of  all things immaculate, a seeker of perfection, narcissa is enamored with art. she already has amassed a collection that could rival the lourve, and often travels to find new additions. it’s a lifestyle only the sickeningly wealthy could afford. the high art, port wine and lavish hotels in distant locations are her own form of escape. the one bright spot in the dreariness that the war has driven all of london into. but “a golden cage is still a cage” and her happiness often fades the moment it comes
she’s an amateur painter herself, talented and content with the process of painting the perfect picture, figuratively and literally. but this is a secret ambition. the act unsuitable and beneath a lady such as herself. there is too much mess. stains, dyed fingertips and an acrid smell. as beautiful as the end result might be, her parents would surely disapprove of the mess she’d make to get there. so like everything else, she hides the messy parts away. it’s not much of a rebellion, but it’s as much as she’s capable of at the moment. her family just means more to her than what she sees as selfish wants rather than the productive creativity and voice to her thoughts that she really needs.
tw child abuse: her childhood was as fraught with abuse as the next black. intelligence was punishable, sharp wit was always met with a slap to rattle her teeth.
her worth was reduced to image and status from the beginning. the cruel parenting taught her to close her lips and open her eyes more. she is observant, and thoughtful. her taste impeccable and judgement rather quick.
narcissa is both good and bad in many ways. love to hate or hate to love her, she’s an anti-villian
tl;dr; narcissa a bitch but like?? the kind you would be begging to step on you
connections:
girl gang – give her all the best friends. the nicole to her paris. soul sisters. ovaries before brovaries. hymen heroines. those hoes she lives and breathes for. i think typically this would be fellow slytherins or ppl that she met through pureblood high society connections. OPEN
ex-boyfriend/girlfriend – ew this makes me sad and emotions are hard to deAL. basically this will be all angst city. most likely narcissa would be the one to break things off since she usually caves to that familial pressure. depending on how their relationship was, she could regret it or be cold about it. or maybe they were using her? i could see either ( or both! gasp ) working. OPEN
rival/frenemies – these two are just too similar to get along. toxic pureblood society has pitted them against each other and no one is winning. okay but if they went from enemies, to reluctant respect, to almost friends?? MAYBE EVEN FRIENDS EVENTUALLY?? i would be here for it asdlk  OPEN
confidante – narcissa isn’t honest with anyone, not even herself. but this could be someone that she’s probably known for a long time who she possibly could’ve opened up to in a weak moment and now they’re bonded forever. she would feel indebted to this person for keeping her secrets and would do her best to protect them any way that she could. extra feelings if this person feels the same way and they can be sad, but also cLOSE, together. OPEN
secret school friend – maybe they were forced partners as prefects or a fateful potions class but narcissa found herself making a surprising friend in an unexpected place. they spoke for years and she couldn’t help admiring their persistence despite her reluctance and occasional snobbery. but now they’re older and she really should cut things off. for whatever reason, she just can’t let go. OPEN
banter partner – alright so this would be someone from the other side of the war that narcissa runs into all the time and they always seem to get into arguments! she’s not quite sure why they get under her skin but narcissa finds it difficult to step away from their confrontations. OPEN
muse – listennnn. this person would be someone that narcissa would just be enamored with, she would regard them very highly and make efforts to speak with them and be around them. if this person were on the other side of the war she would probably resent them a little but be unable to resist.  i’ll probably just spring this on somebody tbh?? since the relationship would be based on her own tastes. but this would be someone that narcissa would admire for their appearance– sure, but also for the aura that they project.
but yes!! promo over, thanks for reading loves! can’t wait to write with you all!

🌲🌿 Being A Green Student 🌿🌲
Hello my studious friends! I’ve decided I’d (finally) make the green student guide that I’ve been promising forever. Here you’ll find a handy list of ways you can stay environmentally conscious while hitting the books. Feel free to pick a choose what suggestions work best for you and your lifestyle. Again, these are purely suggestions, but I really recommend adopting as many as you can. All of us, especially those in the traditionally “western” nations with outrageous carbon footprints (aka America and many parts of Europe), need to start thinking about how we impact our planet in our daily lives. It’s the only one we have. At first, these suggestions may seem excessive or strange, but I promise, after a week or two, they’ll feel like second nature. So, I hope you take up these tips, and enjoy my guide to be a greener student!
Disclaimer: I understand that being green can be expensive, with little reward besides a cleaner lifestyle and conscious. I’m a financially impaired student, just like many of you. I’m not one to go around attacking people for not trying to be sustainable, just passing along tips I’ve picked up. That said, most of these tips can be modified, with a dash of creativity, to fit your monetary needs. And, obviously, I’m not saying that if you’re struggling to feed yourself you should go drop all your money on recycled notebooks, because that would be ridiculous.
Open the Read More to, well, read more!
Supplies
Paper and Notebooks
Buy paper and notebooks made of post-consumer recycled material instead of 100% new materials. You’ll see recycling pop up a lot throughout this post, because helps cut down on the amount of waste going into landfills and the carbon emissions from producing new items. Yes, recycled items tend to be more expensive, but hover around the same price as the nicely decorated notebooks. Consider buying a recycled notebook and doing one of the many DIYs out there to spruce it up yourself.
When you’re done with a sticky note, a notebook, or the school year just ended and your about to have a bonfire with all the homework you hated, recycle it instead of throwing it in the trash. You’d be surprised how much paper you use that just ends up sitting in a landfill for hundreds of years.
Consider going digital! Classes not heavy in numbers or formulas, like history or languages, are easiest for digital notes. Even if it’s just for one or two classes, you can save a ton of paper.
You’ll probably catch on that most of my tips involve reducing your consumption of material things. This is so so important, not only for your environment, but for you mental health. Not having so many things around you all the time can clear your mind (a clean space = a clean mind), and you’ll break or stop from developing bad habits like retail therapy or devaluing your dollar and the things you’re buying.
Pens, Markers, Highlighters, etc.
This tip might hit close to home for some of you, but hear me out. You don’t need so many pens and markers. The plastic and ink those pens use adds up in landfills very quickly. Making the material involves loads of ugly pollutants and are mostly made in countries without stringent environmental regulations. They pollute rivers and oceans that animals and people depend on. How many of those nice Muji or Pilot Juice pens do you actually use on a daily basis? Chances are, you could get by just fine with one set of your favorite colored pens and markers and few of your best black/blue pens.
I’m not saying to throw out recycle the one you don’t like or use (although donating them can clear up some clutter), but once you finish a set of the pens you don’t like, don’t buy them again. And once you finish any pen, recycle it!
Don’t buy anything ONLY because they’re popular on Tumblr or within the studyblr community. Muji pens, Mildliners, Stabio, Staedler… these brands are all pretty darn expensive and there is a chance you won’t even like them. Go to a store and see if you can test them out or borrow from a friend to see if you like them before buying.
Sticky Notes, Washi Tapes, etc.
I’ll be honest, this is my biggest weakness. I love sticky notes so much. And washi makes everything look so freaking cute, and putting a nice picture in my planner makes me really happy. And, like everything, there are ways to make them sustainable.
Post-consumer everything!
Recycle everything! Every finished post-it note, every unneeded scrap of washi.
Instead of printing out pictures from Tumblr or the web, consider using clippings from magazines you find interesting, like National Geographic, for example, or pamphlets you get in the mail. This can really cut down on the amount of paper you’re printing on and the ink you use (which can save you some money, too). Using magazine clippings is my favorite way to get cute pictures, because I get to read cool articles and re-purpose an item I’d buy anyways and would otherwise go into the waste stream.
Other Supplies
Look for tape dispensers, staplers, pencil cases, and any other supplies that are made from post-consumer materials. Invest in high-quality reusable items that you use often, like your stapler, tape dispenser, hole punch, and paper clips. These can be kept and used to years and years. My mom still has a tape dispenser with a weighted base she bought more than twenty years ago. Investing in high-quality products not only saves you the pain and money of buying cheaply made products over and over, but they cut down on your personal waste stream.
Studying and Planning
For the act of studying itself, try to use as little paper as possible. If you mess up and feel the urge to discard the entire paper, use correction tape to block it out, or better yet, just cross it out with your pen. A few mistakes in your notes won’t distract from how aesthetic they are, and that isn’t even the main goal. An ugly crossed out word will not make rest of the information less valuable. If you mess up, just save your paper, cross it out, and move on.
Try out a digital flashcard creator, like Quizlet, instead of using a hundred paper flashcards for one test. You won’t have to recycle all those cards at the end of the year and they’ll be saved digitally instead of taking up all that space in your closet or desk drawers.
Again, go digital for your notes or some of your study materials, like study guides or summaries.
Instead of using a printable for daily planning every single day, invest in a planner. This will save you money in the long run because you’re not wasting your copy paper or printer ink. Only use printables with specialized uses, like essay planning or exam prep.
General Lifestyle Tips
Carry a reusable water bottle with you everywhere. I mean, literally everywhere. This will save you so much money and is one of the biggest sources of pollution and waste.
Consider a more sustainable diet, aka consuming less animal products. This isn’t feasible for everyone for many reasons (health, money, etc.), but I guarantee if you think hard enough, you can come up with easy ways to substitute your meat and dairy products. I’m a diehard meat lover, but I’ve been a vegetarian for over a year with very little slip ups. Even just substituting one veggie burger for a beef burger can save hundreds of tons of carbon dioxide and methane from polluting the air.
To bounce off the last point, eat more vegetables. Good for your health, good for the planet.
Try walking, taking public transportation, or carpooling when possible.
Go to your local secondhand shop when looking for new clothes or the like. They likely won’t have the most trendy pieces, but you’ll be surprised by what you can find. Secondhand anything, rather than new, is better anyways.
Bring your coffee (no k-cups!) from home. This is honestly the hardest part of a sustainable life style for me, mostly because of the convenience of my campus having such cheap coffee (only $1.50 for 12oz.? come on). But it still costs me money I don’t have to spend, and many (many) paper cups and lids being recycled. There is so much waste surrounding coffee, from plant to brew, and so easy to make a dent in its impact. As far as taste goes, you can easily make your own coffee taste just as great (likely, better) than Starbucks with some flavored creamer or syrup.
Similarly, bring your lunch from home. Not only will it likely be cheaper, but it can easily be healthier and have more than your standard restaurant lunch. Use glass or plastic containers instead of single-use baggies and bring your metal silverware from home.
Like I touched on before, reduce your consumption! Obviously, if you want something really bad, buy it. But before you do, reflect on why you want it. Is it purely for aesthetics or to fit in? Or will it legitimately help your studies?
Invest in high-quality reusable items that you use often, like your stapler, tape dispenser, hole punch, and paper clips. These can be kept and used to years and years. My mom still has a tape dispenser with a weighted base she bought more than twenty years ago. Investing in high-quality products not only saves you the pain and money of buying cheaply made products over and over, but they cut down on your personal waste stream.
🌟 Thank you for reading, and I wish you all a productive and sustainable day! 🌟

Anisah tries to make a tutorial :)
There is probably a list of people who should never make tutorials, and i’m on it... but here we are anyways ~
(this is a very detailed tutorial from start to finish, so please bear with me lols. also, its super long, so under a cut it goes )
The first step of course is getting the right videos. I would highly reccomend downloading torrents, as opposed to video clips off of youtube/daily motion because they will always be better quality !
In the case that you can’t find a torrent/the torrent you found has barely any seeders and is basically dead, then i’d reccomend downloading clips from the official drama channels, since they will always upload in HD and have the widest variety of drama clips.
KBS SBS TvN JTBC MBC
Once you have your episode/clips downloaded, I would recommend using a video editor to cut out the scenes that you want. This is because, if you try and make a gif on photoshop from a full episode, its will end up being like 500 frames and your death :)
Also, if you want to make  a multi scene set, if you cut them clips out before hand and compile them into a new video - it will be easier to find the exact clips you want, without having to go back and forth between different clips
Tumblr media
So you have HD clips, and they’ve been cut into the individual scenes for giffing, so now to actual gif making.
I know a lot of people do the whole ‘screenshot and then convert layers to frames’ but I have no idea what that is or how to do that, so here is an alternative? (Which I think is a lot easier than screenshotting)
Tumblr media
On photoshop you can import a video and convert it into a frame animation
Tumblr media
^ make sure you tick ‘limit to every __ frames’ + since you don’t want to have too many frames in your gif, i’d recommend going for every 2 or every 3 frames.
then hit okay, and you’ve technically just made a gif and could very well just save it (it would probably be huge though like 13mb so i would 500% not reccomend this)
Tumblr media
So your gif probably looks like this, the timing will probably be something like 0.04 sec which is wayyy too fast - so the first thing you’ll want to do is select all the frames (click the first frame, then press shift, and click the last frame) and change the timing - i usually use 0.1 seconds, but people prefer different timings so its really up to you~
The next step is to crop your gif, for the first gif click the crop tool, and select “unconstrained” - this will allow you to crop your gif into any shape you like
Tumblr media
once you’ve decided on a shape you like, click “save preset” - what this does is save your crop shape, so next time you don’t have to use “unconstrained” you can just use the crop preset that you’ve saved - aka all your gifs will be the same size/shape
as you get into making different styles of gifsets, you’ll start using different shaped gifs and your list of presets will grow
Tumblr media
^^^ this is what my one currently looks like, gibberish titles i know, but i understand what they mean and what shapes they are, and thats all that matters really! (although...i should probably delete some, since i dont even use half of them lmao)
For the sake of this tutorial, lets say you saved your crop preset as “gifset 1” - so the next gif you make, instead of clicking “unconstrained” you just click “gifset 1” and you’ll get the same crop proportions :)
also important: i’d 500% reccomend cropping out logos! logos honestly ruin gifs and will put your hard work to waste
if your gif shape doesn’t allow you to crop out the logo without cropping out key details from the gif, i’d reccomend colouring over the gif
Okay, so your gif now looks like this
Tumblr media
but its still very big (like probs 900px) and tumblr’s dimensions for gifs are 268px for small gifs and 540px for big gifs
for this tutorial i’m going to make a small gif, so to resize the gif, just press cmd+shift+i or click on the image drop down menu and then click “image size”
Tumblr media
and resize your gif to 268px. make sure “constrain proportions” is ticked!!! or else your gif will end up being stretched and it will look awful!!!
also, click cmd+1 or go to the “view” drop down menu and click on “actual size” so the gif it the exact size you want it to be, and not zoomed in or zoomed out (doesn’t change anything on the actual gif, its just easier to work with)
And your gif is almost done :) all thats left is colouring and sharpening !!
When you import your gif, on the right hand column will be your gif layers, photoshop will select the first layer by default, but to make sure the colouring is on all the frames make your you have the last layer selected!
Everyone colours differently, but here are my basic steps - and from there you can just mess around with the colouring etc
The first thing I do is increase the “curves” - there isn’t an exact number or curve you want to go for, it literally depends on how dark the scene is and how bright you want it. however, do not brighten it too much at this point, because as you add layers it will get brighter and you dont want to whitewash!
Tumblr media
The next thing I do is balance out the colours using “colour balance”, to reduce the yellow tint and make the scene look more natural
Tumblr media
I then increase the levels a little bit, to make the scene lighter
Tumblr media
It looks fine, but the colours seem a little flat, and the scene hasn’t got a lot of depth, so I do a “brightness/contrast” layer and increase the contrast (i dont increase the brightness, since the “curves” and ”levels” have already done this part, but i do sometimes lower the brightness if the contrast overexposes the scene)
Tumblr media
^ This looks fine, and I could finish here, but I want the colours to be a bit more vibrant. So, I open a “selective colour” layer, and on the “red” I reduce the “cyans”
Tumblr media
Then reduce the “yellows” on “neutrals”
Tumblr media
And finally, increase “black” on “blacks”
Tumblr media
and badabing badaboom, you’ve now coloured your gif!
Tumblr media
The only thing left to do now is sharpen~
Tumblr media
At the bottom left hand corner of your timeline there is a small button next to where it says “forever”, click that to convert your frames into a video timeline
making your timeline look like this:
Tumblr media
Then click cmd+alt+A or the “select” drop down menu, and click “all layers”
Tumblr media
and then click on the “filter” drop down menu, and click “convert to smart filters”
Tumblr media
So your timeline should now look like this:
Tumblr media
To sharpen your gif, click “filter” and then go to the sharpen sub-menu and click on “smart sharpen”
Tumblr media
How much you sharpen your gif is up to you, some people do more than one layer of sharpening others only sharpen a little
I’d say to start off between 0.2px and 0.3px and mess around with the settings from there
Tumblr media
And you’re done!!!
All you have to do now is save your gif - so go to the “file” drop down menu and click “save for web”
Important things to note when saving your gif though:
Make sure the loop is on “forever” - photoshop will put it at “once” so you have to change is manually when you save
make sure your gif is under 3mb or it wont move on tumblr
make sure you save it under “pattern” and not “diffusion” (which is the default) or else it will look fuzzy/low quality
Tumblr media
CLICK SAVE AND HALLELUJAH YOU JUST MADE A GIF!!! WOO HOO !!!
Tumblr media
please please please let me know if this tutorial helped you, you don’t need to reblog or even like it... just a reply would do (just so i know this wasn't a waste of time and it actually helped someone lmao)
