Chapter 10: Sinful Ecstasy
You woke up with a headache, the sleep you had wasn't enough and it didn't help that you had to get your ass out of bed to prepare yourself for work. You took a quick shower, trying to wash the tiredness from your face, then dressed. Breakfast was out of the discussion, you weren't hungry, but you filled your dog's bowl with food before exiting and going to work, acting like everything was fine. You didn't want to have your co-workers ask you millions of questions if you were alright.
Everything went fine, some office paperwork, today you had no patrolling so you took all your time into the office, the AC blowing behind you, a sigh leaving your lips as your exhausted eyes took a glance at the clock on the wall; lunchtime. Maybe coffee and something sweet would ease your tension. Closing your laptop, you told your partner you will take some time off to get food, which he replied with a simple nod, his eyes too pulled into the stacks of papers and the computer.
Walking down the hallways, you exited the police station and were ready to go across the street to get yourself the nutriments for today, only to stop dead into your tracks, when your eyes meet the tall form of Jesse, leaning against the side of a Chrysler, 300c, all black with his hands into the pockets of his slacks, a smirk on his scarred face.
He wouldn't do something in public, in front of so many people and especially coworkers of yours that were outside smoking. You gulped down and got the courage to walk towards him, trying not to look scared, mostly so as not to raise unwanted questions and suspicions.
"I haven't told anyone anything, not a soul." you firstly said, trying not to stumble over your words. He pulled out his phone from his pocket, typing a message.
'I know, princess. We have our eyes on you all the time.'
Well, that calmed you down very much, but still, that didn't answer your question about why he was here.
'I thought you might be hungry since it's lunchtime. I brought you something.'
You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion as he opened the passager seat and pulled out a box, which contained your favorite food, along with a cup of coffee, just how you liked it, a little bitter with some milk, and what you loved most, strawberry cake.
"Why?" you hesitated, taking the box anyway since your stomach was making the thinking for you now.
'Why not? Isn't this what a lover is supposed to do to his most valuable person in life?'
That message made you all the more confused, not to mention a little angry. He wasn't your lover or boyfriend or any synonyms specified.
"You're not my lover. You kidnapped me, hurt me, and not to mention blackmailed me." you explained, trying to sound assertive, but at the same time trying not to draw attention to the both of you. You knew how your coworkers liked to gossip and prey on any juicy stories.
'Details, doll.' he waved off as it was nothing as if the words you said were just a joke to him, but then he narrowed his brown eye, his hand pulling you flush against his chest, a gasp leaving your lips. On one hand, he still had his phone, typing away with precision.
'Kiss me.'
That command, because request sure as hell wasn't, made your eyes widen and shivers to run down your spine, a bad feeling coming into your chest.
"W-What?" Kiss him in public? In front of your coworkers that was a few feet away from the two of you, clearly observing the whole scenario.
'I'm not a shy one, doll. Let them all see that you're taken, not to mention...Isn't it rude not to thank me for this treat?'
The bastard was playing with you now, and you knew that if you denied his words the outcome wouldn't be pretty; you constantly thought of your brother and how you need to protect him, despite you being his little sister.
"If I kiss you, will you leave?" you asked in a hushed voice, your face inches from his own, that smirked at your question, nodding slowly.
Taking a deep breath you leaned on your toes, so you could reach him and pressed your lips shyly against his rough ones, the kiss all innocent, until his free hand moved from your waist to the back of your neck, his fingers stroking the skin there, his tongue pocking out to brush against your lips.
You opened your eyes and looked into his half-lidded brown one, his gaze speaking 'Open up or else', so you slowly parted your lips, allowing him entry and he sure did take advantage of it, deepening the kiss and rubbing his tongue over yours, a slight moan vibrating from you, then as it started, it ended, leaving you a shocked and breathless mess.
Jesse knew you enjoyed it more than you let it know, the smug look he gave you, speaking much more.
'Thanks, doll. You're a peach, also I will pick you up after work and we are going to my place for a drink or two.'
That was his last message before he went inside the car, driving off and leaving you all speechless. Well, at last, you got free lunch, so you headed back inside the police station, not before taking a glance at your coworkers outside who had confused, shocked, and amused faces.
Great, you will be the primary discussion for one week from the looks of it. Walking down the hallways, you got inside your office, your partner still working while one of the female officers was there chatting with him. Her eyes looked up and when she saw you she smirked knowingly.
"What's with that smirk?" you asked, setting down the box with the food, getting ready to eat.
"How come you never told anyone you had a boyfriend? And a rich as fuck one." she said, with a raised eyebrow. Great, she was one of these gossip sharks who would love to sink their teeth into you for more spicy details.
"I don't think that is any business for work." you replied, trying not to give any information to this predator.
"I always thought you were asexual, but my....Girl, you really know how to pick em." she said, sitting down on your partner's desk, making him look up at her with an acidic look. Well, at last, you weren't the only one who wanted to stab her in the mouth.
"I mean...He is one tall fella...I bet his dick is something to be afraid of." she continued, her words made your coworker choke on his coffee, obviously disgusted by her dirty comments.
"How rich is he? Judging by his car and the way he dresses....I bet he rubs his money on your pussy, girl." she joked, laughing, only to stop when you banged your fist on your desk.
"Get the fuck out!" you screamed, a vicious glare shot directly in her direction. She made a quick dash for the door, tripping over her high heels on her way out. Your partner chuckled at your outburst.
"Well, that was quite amusing on your part. Never saw you angry before." he commented nonchalantly.
"All I want is to be left alone and do my work. I hate gossips." you groaned out, starting to eat your lunch, the delightful taste of it calming your nerves down.
"Good luck with that. This place stinks of predators ready to devour any information you have on yourself. I thought you knew this after so many months."
"Well, I wasn't exactly into the spotlight, until now." you grumbled, chewing on your food.
"Get used to it."
The rest of the day at work was full of tension; each time someone entered your office, he or she commented something about your 'lover', some comments were innocent some made your skin crawl.
You stretched your arms above your head as you saw that it was ending of the program; you couldn't wait to get home and have a bubble bath...maybe a movie? Of course, the pleasant dream was destroyed, when you remembered that Jesse had already plans for you.
As you exited the police station, you weren't that much surprised that the luxurious black car was waiting for you. Jesse wasn't joking and it made you start to walk towards it when he honked, signaling for you to hurry up.  You got inside the car, into the passager seat, next to Jesse, but not even sparing him a glance.
'Not gonna give daddy a kiss?' the robotic voice spoke up, making you blush and look slowly at him, reluctant as you saw the serious look he sported. Gulping down, you gave his scarred cheek a quick kiss, making the man smirk and laugh silently.
He let that go, and starting driving to his place, the drive there was as silent as ever, not even him giving you looks or anything, and that only amplified the tension.
After driving for one hour or so, you two got to his place, parking his car and leading you inside. All the flashbacks from what happened inside came to you, making you halt your steps a little, only for Jesse to push lightly on your lower back.
Entering, you didn't even have the time to speak, as Jesse pushed you against a wall, his arms caging you against his body, his nose buried into the crook of your neck, taking deep inhales of breath.
"W-What are you doing?" you shuttered, trying to push a little against his chest. He moved a little from you, taking his phone out so he could communicate with you.
'How was work?'
You narrowed your eyes at his question.
"Because of you, I was feeling like I was in a tank full of piranhas. You have any idea how people love to stick their nose into others business?" you asked with annoyance, glaring up at Jesse, who only smirked at your spitfire attitude.
'I know, but what's the problem? Let them all know who owns you. By the way, love that comment about how you are my sugar baby. Got me a little rilled up, doll.'
You couldn't take it anymore, you pushed hard against his chest, taking him by surprise as he stumbled one step behind.
"I have enough of this! I'm not an object you can own. I'm an independent woman and I can do whatever I want!" you screamed out at him, and in an instant, he had his hand wrapped around your throat, your back connecting again with the wall, but much harsher.
Jesse snarled down at you, brown eye flashing with annoyance.
'You think you have a choice? Well, you do have, but I don't think you want to lose your dear brother, because of this stupid female pride. You will get used to it, and maybe love it at some point, to be my gorgeous trophy on my part of the arrangement.'
Fear struck you, as you tried to pry his hand off of you, but without any luck.
'I suggest you learn your place. Trust me, I'm far worse than Asa.'
You whimpered, your eyes closed to look Jesse in the eye.
'All you have to do is get down on your hands and knees and by my little baby girl. Pretty easy for a spitfire as yourself. I will enjoy ripping this independence off of you.'
You felt humiliated by his words and squeaked as you felt his lips brush against yours. Your mind kept telling you to just take it what comes at you, that being arrogant and prideful won't save you or your brother.
'Don't let the sin of pride destroy what is most precious for you.' That's what your mind kept repeating over and over. A sigh left your lips, opening them for Jesse who smirked in victory and began to kiss you feverishly.
That was...until, a loud bang of the front door caused both of you to pull away, a fuming and angry Asa into the opened doors, obsidian eyes narrowing at Jesse.
"You. I thought we agreed on sharing her." he spoke, surprisingly calm, but you knew he was one more way from exploding into an inner rage.
'What's got your panties in a bunch, old man.' Jesse spoke through his phone, making Asa take a wide step forward.
"I saw her first." Asa snarled and you were shocked that Jesse was all laid-back about this.
'So? She's on my territory now. Finder's keeper.'
That last comment destroyed Asa's calmness and he lunged at Jesse, throwing a fist straight to the taller man's nose, your eyes widening as you took in the scene, both of them fighting, resulting in a bruised nose for Jesse, who spit blood out, and a busted lip for Asa; still they continued.
You couldn't take this anymore, so you followed your instincts, getting between them, your hands pushing against Asa's chest.
"S-Stop it! This is insane!" you screamed, making them stop and looked at you with shocked and unsure expressions.
Jesse was holding his bruised nose, blood coming out, and following down his mouth, his brown eye narrowed at the smaller male. You looked up to see one of Asa's eyes that started to form a purple bruise along with his busted lip, bleeding.
Asa looked down at you with a glare and something else you couldn't point out. You knew he was still angry by his deep inhales of breath.
"I-It isn't his fault! I agreed to come....I-I am sorry!" you tried to form out some excuses. Why? You didn't know. You might as well have let them beat the hell out of each other or even kill one another.
"You're sorry?" Asa calmly asked, taking a step towards you, only for you to step backward, until your back meets Jesse's front, who looked down at you with an equally bruised face as Asa.
"Are you trying to play us?" Asa snarled, eyes looking so feral down at you, all you could manage to get out were whimpers.
"Are you trying to get us against each other?" Asa asked again, his hand crawling up your chest until he grasped your neck, your eyes wide with terror.
"I've been patient, thought maybe we should have taken you easy and gentle." Asa continued, looking at Jesse, who's mouth pulled from a scowl to a smirk, already figuring out what they wanted to do to you.
"You're a brat. You know what happens to disobedient snobby brats?" Jesse's phone spoke up, one of his hands grasping and squeezing harshly your hip.
"You're gonna get punished tonight." Asa spoke firmly, his fingertips rubbing the skin of your neck, making you gulp down in anxiety for what was to come.
"Tonight. We. Are. Going. To. Fuck. You." Each word was spoken from Jesse's device along with a roll of his hips into yours, making you feel what was to come.
You. Were. Fucked.
To be continued...

Part Two: Homeward Bound
Tumblr media
(this gif... This Gif... THIS GIF... ThIS giF... What am I going TO DO WITH MYSELF?!)
(Y/N) was speeding down the office hallways, a satchel at her side along with multiple plastic bags on her arms and a large drink carrier in her hands. A pencil stuck awkwardly from behind her ear as she mumbled the checklist she'd made earlier that day.
Sharply turning a corner without hesitation, she made it to the meeting room and gave a quiet, but swift knock. She opened it carefully and wiped her face of concentration to replace it with a wide grin.
Ian paused his presentation of a fresh project by waving at (Y/N) and gazing excitedly at what she brought.
"Don't mind me," she whispered, the same thing she said every day when she made her deliveries.
All the Smosh Pit cast were there, including the Squad, Tommy, Monica, Matt Raub, and Garrett. They were going over ideas for Smosh Winter Games, something that hasn't happened for a few years.
But (Y/N) was more focused on getting her own job done, starting with the drinks and passing them to their corresponding owners. She did it in such a fluid motion that no one doubted their cup was exactly what they ordered.
Next, she opened the plastic bags digging into her arms and handed out sandwiches and salads, as an added treat. She normally pitched in a few extra dollars to buy a better lunch for her coworkers, and she could see the speculating eye from Matt Raub as he accepted his deluxe.
She put her best smile on and waved a hand, "Don't worry about it." And before she left, she reached into her satchel and extracted a small box of cookies, "For dessert."
And before anyone could protest the homemade treat, she ran out of the room with a few more drinks and meals to pass out.
This was such a frequent occurrence for (Y/N) and the Smosh Family. She had become kind of like the mother of Smosh, taking care of the numerous little things while still finding time to take care of the cast and crew with goodies and smiles.
That didn't mean she never got stressed.
Her step was quick again as she made her way back through the halls, waving at a few friends as she went. That checklist in her head never seemed to grow smaller:
Get Damien his coffee
Give cookie box to Smosh Games
Find Sarah for guest star progress reports
Check to see if Damien actually ate his lunch
Write paper about that Tinder for Hotdogs idea
Give Tommy a hug and see how he's doing later
Invite Shayne to the hangout Damien came up with
Text Courtney about filming in her tiny car
Find Damien a date for...
Someone crashed right into (Y/N), sending the last few cups of coffee into the air and all over her shirt. She jumped at the steaming hot liquid, pulling against the fabric to keep it from her skin.
"Oh, damn, I'm sorry (Y/N)."
She winced and peered up to see Damien's sympathetic face, "It's... It's fine. I'll - I'll just bump a few things on my list and go get changed and grab more coffee."
He immediately knelt down to pick up the remnants of the cups and carrier, "I'm guessing this one's mine? Serves me right not looking where I'm going."
He gave her a smile, his eyes crinkling up as he did so. It made her heart skip a beat.
"Don't worry about it. I'll just..." she was still holding away her sticky shirt, closing her eyes and thinking hard, "I'll figure something out."
Damien sighed, "I just ruined your whole agenda, didn't I?" He picked up her pencil and quietly slid it to behind her ear, "Please don't stress out about it."
She had to give herself a few seconds to process his last sentence before continuing, "Um... that's almost physically impossible at this point. With summer ending we've got to find a whole new season of things to do."
He listened but contorted his brow at how uncomfortable she was standing there, "You know I have one of my Smosh sweatshirts in my office. You want to change into that? Get yourself out of brewing in your own shirt."
When he laughed at his own jokes it made (Y/N) stutter so uncontrollably, "Uh... actually, that'd be really nice. Then I won't have to drive home when I run more errands."
He led the way to his desk, smirking, "More errands? Do you just intentionally want to give yourself a busy schedule?" He extracted a colorful pastel sweatshirt and handed it to her.
"Well, who's going to pick up the new Mario Party release?" she walked away to change in the nearby bathroom, "You have to film today."
It only took a minute to change, but maybe two minutes to stare in the mirror and tell herself she was wearing Damien's sweatshirt. Not to mention smell his cologne from the collar.
"And I know that if you get stressed out, I just stress out more and then there's this whole cycle of intense panic." She paused when she met him at his desk again - he was holding her satchel and a strange look was in his eye.
"You look cute."
She had to focus all her energy into not widening her eyes at his words, "I got to go, thanks for the sweatshirt! I promise I'll get you something else later today for that coffee fiasco." She was practically running out of the room by the end of her sentence.
It always took a few minutes after a talk with Damien to convince herself that he only saw her as a friend. That he cares about her because he's her friend. That the possibility of getting so close to him was absolutely terrifying.
But she had to push past it, always the one to run away from those potential relationships.
She had to hurry back on her list if she had hopes to finish everything before the big hangout that night. And by big hangout, she meant Damien, Shayne, and Courtney. (Y/N) always considered scenarios where Damien was involved a big deal.
Completing a majority of running errands and skipping her own lunch to do so, she ran over to Smosh Games to deliver cookies and catch up with Wes and Mari. Whenever she could, (Y/N) always tried to make time to talk to each of the cast and crew.
It's always nice to know you have a friend at the office.
"Guess what I brought?" she flashed a dazzling smile, opening her satchel.
Wes practically flew as he turned in his chair and wheeled towards her - thankfully his headphones were Bluetooth and not attached to the monitor.
"Suckers? Cupcakes? Oh! Please say it's..."
(Y/N) extracted her homemade box and shook it in front of him, "Chocolate chip cookies."
Mari wheeled around too, "You're going to be the sole reason he's gonna have a sugar coma later."
He practically squealed, a large childish smile on his face, "You're too good to me, (Y/N)." He quickly pulled one out and took a bite, "Oh... you are way too good to me."
She laughed, pulling Damien's empty chair from his gaming console to sit down, "Where is everyone?"
Mari shrugged her shoulders, "Probably sneaking around to plan my reception."
Wes paused in his munching and widened his eyes, "Hm? I - I thought they were..."
"I know they left you here to keep me distracted," Mari smirked, "I also know that Peter left you guys in charge of ensuring I'm a happy bride - so don't lie to me."
Shaking a few crumbs from his fingers, Wes rolled his eyes, "Fine. They're coordinating who's decorating your car."
"Which reminds me," Mari flashed her gaze back to (Y/N), who was fidgeting in her seat. "Have you found yourself a date for the wedding yet?"
Wes gasped and nodded enthusiastically, "I thought for sure he was going to ask you by now."
"I'm not asking anyone out," (Y/N) stated adamantly, "You know I'm no good with... wait - did you say...?"
"I thought you were just going to go with Damien," he paused before quickly adding, "As friends."
(Y/N) felt the heat residing in her face, panic building in her chest, "No, I was actually supposed to find Damien a date later this week. I didn't want him to go alone."
"But you are?" Mari asked, leaning across the desks, pointedly raising an eyebrow towards Wes.
"I'm not the best at the whole dating - relationship thing. So, it's best if I just stay out of it."
Wes mumbled, "With the amount of stress you handle every day at work you'd think going on a date was nothing for you."
(Y/N)'s breathing was hitching, her trying to hide her fidgeting hands at the subject, "Can we please talk about something else?"
"Is that sweatshirt new? I've never seen it before," Mari was smirking again; she knew full well whose sweatshirt it was.
It took Wes only a few more seconds to realize it as well, "Did Damien give that to you?" He had the biggest fan boy eyes (Y/N) had ever seen.
But she was consumed with her own overwhelming emotions. The thought of so many people rooting for Damien and her to get together sent her nerves to the maximum. Sure, they were really good friends, but only that.
Any other possibility would melt her insides.
"Whatcha guys doing?"
Damien came waltzing into the room, followed closely by Joven and Laser. His eyes fell immediately onto (Y/N) sitting stony in his chair - the sight made him smile, but he hesitated.
"Are you okay, (Y/N)?" He was always the one that stepped in before she fell into a full state of panic, unbeknownst to him that he was normally the subject of the panic.
"I... I just - I don't know."
He walked over and outstretched his arms to her, giving her a sympathetic gaze to will her up to him.
Joven snapped his fingers to grab the attention of the other SG members, crazily pointing to usher everyone out.
(Y/N) sniffed and averted her gaze, finding her legs disobeying her to a standing position. And Damien wrapped his arms around her, holding her so tightly.
She was consumed by his presence, feeling her heart drop into her stomach. Hugs from Damien weren't uncommon, but they were always nerve-wracking.
"I told you not to stress out today." He rubbed a hand up and down her back, "But I definitely ordered your favorite food for tonight just in case. And we can play whatever game you like - even the scary games."
"But Shayne hates the scary games," she mumbled, the pang in her chest resounding at his comfort.
He laughed, "Shayne can hide behind the couch."
She could feel his heartbeat against her head. It pounded until it resided into her mind. It was always that that calmed her down. It was the same feeling she got when she was safe at home after a long day.
Was his heart beating a little fast?
"Feel better?" He pulled her back slightly to get a good look at her face.
She wished his arms were still around her, "You know I always do when you're there."
There was his laugh again that sent a shiver down her spine, "You look a little red in the face." He brushed a finger against her cheek to confirm his suspicion, "You're not sick, are you?"
Lovesick?
"I gotta go. Thanks for the hug, I really needed it." She grabbed her bag and became completely oblivious to how Damien's shoulders sunk. "I'll see you later tonight."
She rounded out of the Games room, smacking the side of her head as she put a hand to her temple. There was a pounding there that she was sure was going to grow into a headache.
She closed her eyes, needing to focus:
Bring treats for the editing room
Gather viewing statistics from Spencer
Not think about Damien
Help Monica with writing Tinder for Hotdogs
Confirm spot on the SmoshCast for next week's episode
Order dress for Mari's wedding
Not think about Damien's laugh
Start notes for the Two Truths episode she was going to direct
Not think about Damien's smile
Meet with Ian about Winter Games
Not thinking about falling asleep on Damien's lap tonight
Buy more ingredients for Wes' cookies
Check that the makeup room is fully stocked
Not thinking about Damien pulling a blanket over her before he would leave
It was almost impossible to concentrate on anything else as (Y/N) entered the film studio for Smosh Pit. Shayne was immediately waving at her and raising his eyebrows in a questioning manner.
She shrugged her shoulders, pointing towards her temple and mouthing, "headache," over the sound being tested through the mics.
That pounding was still resounding in her head.
Shayne nodded and mouthed back a, “sorry,” before patting the spot next to him on the couch. She gave a short smile and walked over, taking a deep breath.
“Having a day?” he whispered, the mics still being tested above them.
She bit her bottom lip, “Just a little one.” Then she folded her arms and leaned her head against his shoulder.
He started shaking with a laugh he was trying to hide, “You really are having a day. How many times to I get to see affectionate (Y/N)?”
She pouted, lightly smacking his leg, “I just got a Damien hug, of course I’m feeling affectionate.”
“Ah, yes, the Damien hug,” he moved into a character voice, “I’ve seen many a traveler receive one of those and never return the same.”
“Shayne!” Matt Raub could be heard behind the cameras, “I wasn’t kidding when I said we were checking sound.”
Shayne waved an apology and lowered his voice more, “So, that’s two strikes for having a stressful day. One: a Damien hug, and two: snuggles.”
(Y/N) turned her head to bury her face between Shayne’s arm and the couch, “I can’t help being busy at work.”
“But we can help take a load off,” Shayne muttered leaning over and reaching for something near his feet, “Got you a little something.”
She sat straight again, surprised at the gesture, “You got me something?”
“Don’t act surprised. Just because you give people treats all the time doesn’t mean they can’t give you something.” He handed over a medium sized box that was obviously just thrown together, “It was more Damien’s idea than mine, but we went during lunch.”
“Of course it was him,” she smiled, pulling back the lid and finding a few spa day essentials, goodies, and a couple new games for her PlayStation. “How did you know I wanted these games!”
His eyes widened at seeing hers light up, “You always talk about them, of course we knew you wanted them. And we got you some weird bath bomb-lotion-spray-flower stuff.” He threw his hands around as he talked, trying to amp up the quality of the present, “Just... we want you to relax every once in a while.”
A pair of hands came down on (Y/N)’s shoulders, causing her to jump at first, “We knew that one was your favorite scent.”
It was Damien again, hovering near her head as he leaned over the couch. (Y/N) cursed her mind, thinking that she would’ve been able to get away from his perfect eyes in the Squad room.
“Um... we called Courtney to figure that out,” Shayne stated with squinted eyes but a smile nonetheless, “She also was the one who told us where to find it.”
“I like to think I know what (Y/N) likes,” Damien retorted, hands still on her shoulders. “We thought maybe you should get a gift for a change.”
She didn’t know what to say, setting the box down and pulling away from Damien. His hands left a lingering touch on her shoulders.
“That’s really kind of you guys. I – I guess I’m not used to accepting presents,” she watched the strange exchange move from Shayne to Damien. They were looking at her with puzzlement, but she continued, “I thought you had filming to do, Damien?”
He looked slightly downtrodden, “I do – here. I’m shooting a Smosh Pit Weekly.”
A sigh left her lips, but she plastered on a smile, “Oh, I must have my schedule mixed up. You know what that means – I have to go straighten it out. I’ll see you guys, thanks for the...”
“(Y/N), are you avoiding me?”
Shayne whipped his head between his two friends, disbelief hanging in his gaze. He wasn’t sure this conversation was ever going to be brought up. Therefore, he practically skidded out of the studio, rolling off the couch.
(Y/N) could feel that panic filling up her chest, the pounding in her head. The redness was hitting her face again and the oversized sweatshirt was feeling strangely restricting.
“You’re getting red again. (Y/N) what’s wrong? What are you stressing about?” Damien walked around the coffee table and stopped when she took a step away from him.
“I only ever stress out about one thing.”
He heavily sighed, “I’m gonna need you to give me a little more than that.”
As he inched closer, she felt the panic manifesting itself in shaky hands and stutters, “We-We’re friends, right?”
She thought she saw his face dip a little, “Yes? What’s this about?”
“I - I only seem to feel overwhelmed when-whenever y-you're there.”
He paused, immediate hurt on his face, “Oh, I didn’t realize... I thought... I’m sorry that I...”
“But I also never feel better until you are there,” she gazed at the ground. “It’s very conflicting.”
“(Y/N), I think it’s about time we just get a few things off our chests,” he stated, a bit of redness hitting his own cheeks this time. “I’ve wanted to ask you something for a while.”
She finally peeked at him, “I always run away when I think I’m getting too close to a guy. I don't know why, but the thought of being that close to someone really scares me. But it’s also the only thing I can think about.” She watched his face go through a range of emotions as she held her breath in anticipation.
It was his smirk that got to her first, “I’ve been wanting to ask you to be my date to Mari and Peter’s wedding, but you keep running away every time I think I can start talking to you about it.”
Her breathing literally stopped, “Your date?”
“So, you run away from me because you want to be with me?” He was taking a few more steps towards her, practically right in front of her now. But she couldn’t move.
“That sounds complicated,” she whispered, eyes flickering all around his face.
He gave her a momentary cautious gaze, “Do you want to run away now?”
She eyed the close proximity of his face, “Only because you’re stressing me out. But I know I won’t feel better unless I stay with you.”
“Then this is okay?” he was wrapping her into one of his hugs, “I don’t like that I make you scared like this.”
She let out a breath that she felt like she was holding for hours, “I’m only scared about what’s going to happen next.”
She pulled away just enough to see his face, their arms still wrapped around each other. He leaned his forehead down against hers and gazed into her eyes. She swallowed hard, finding her hands moving – one sliding down to his chest and the other to the side of his face, feeling his jawline.
She realized that the pounding in her head had stopped. It was replaced with a pounding happening against her hand.
It was Damien’s heartbeat. The thing that’s been bombarding her all day.
Flickering her eyes back into his, she found Damien giving a slight smile as he peered down towards her lips. She gave a small smile back and before she knew it Damien was leaning all the way to meet her kiss.
It was instant fireworks exploding in her chest. Those spouts of panic fueled the butterflies in her stomach. Wrapping her hand to the back of his head, she tangled her fingers into Damien’s hair.
She could feel him smile into the kiss.
And as quickly as it began, they broke apart. Though they didn’t pull away from their embrace, still touching foreheads.
“I’m not going to let you run away this time,” Damien muttered, keeping a grip on her waist.
“I think I’m here to stay.”
She felt his heartbeat again, fast and strong against her hand. The one thing that’s always been able to comfort her.
And recognition had finally settled into her mind.
Sometimes home has a heartbeat. And home was where she was going to stay.

*********************************************
He felt Plagg shift restlessly inside his jacket pocket while he watched the sunrise from the backseat of his car. At 4:51 am, the sun had yet to rise, and the street lights illuminated his face as Adrien rested his head against the window. The ride was quiet as usual, the only words being ‘good morning’ as he climbed into the backseat and ‘thank you’ as he exited and headed towards the building where the photoshoot was to take place.
Adrien did his best to avoid conversation with anyone aside from a polite ‘hello’ or ‘good morning’-- his eyes were blurry with sleep, so it was probably for the best. He kept his head low as he walked towards the elevator, passing businessmen and women with cups of coffee filled to the brim, talking-- rather loudly-- into their earpieces and brushing past others just like themselves. He’d never liked the building itself; it had always been dull and grey despite the constant stream of people coming in and out-- as if it was a cruel reminder of just how similar it was to his new life.
Two flights of stairs and an elevator ride later, Adrien had finally reached the floor where the shoot was to take place. Walking towards the dressing room, he opened the door to see the photographer laughing about something with his makeup artist.
“Hey Cecil,” he said groggily. The doorframe seemed to be the only thing holding him up at the moment. “Hi, Mona.”
Cecil turned to see who had spoken, grinning when he saw a sleep-deprived Adrien Agreste. “What’s up, Adrien,” he said, his American accent thick as always. Giving the model a once-over, Cecil’s grin died down slightly. “So,” Cecil took a sip of his cup. “How many ounces do you want this morning?”
Mona slapped his arm. “You know there’s no coffee before shoots.” She huffed, getting a laugh from her husband in return. Turning to Adrien, she smiled sweetly. “I’m sorry sweetie, but coffee’s gonna stain your teeth and I wanna get you out of here as soon as possible.”
Cecil opened his mouth to protest before Adrien yawned again.
“It’s alright,” he muttered. The floor seemed to be getting closer and Adrien wondered why until he realized that he was falling forward.
Cecil jumped towards Adrien to catch him just as he managed to right himself. “I’m alright,” He said. “I just hope I can make it to school on time.”
“Well then,” Mona said unsurely as she gestured to the chair in front of her. “Take a seat and we’ll get started.”
Cecil took another sip of his coffee. “We might take a little longer setting up, cause there are so many new people this time around. Just take your time and head over when you and your partner are ready, okay?”
He looked up from where he sat while Mona prepared everything she needed on the counter behind him. “Partner? What partner?”
She turned toward him slightly. “No one told you?” Adrien shook his head. “Ah, that’s all right. You’ll meet her soon enough.”
*********
After sitting still and in a chair for entirely too long and getting changed into the clothing provided, Adrien checked that the time on his phone read 5:35 before setting it with the rest of his clothing and heading towards where the shoot was taking place.
The room was spacious with plenty of natural lighting coming in from the massive windows that reminded him of his bedroom. The walls and floors were baby blue and white, giving the place a strange feeling that it had just been painted, despite having been there for years. With Cecil, the crew, and the equipment set up on one side of the room, all tables filled with coffee cups and torn open sugar packets lined the wall on the other side of the room.
While Adrien was chatting friendly with one of the newer assistants by one of the tables (which had always seemed out of place to him in the otherwise empty room), Cecil came up to him with a girl trailing behind who Adrien couldn’t see quite clearly save her long brown hair that reached her waist.
“Sorry no one told you about this earlier,” Cecil smiled apologetically, his bright white teeth contrasting his deep brown skin. “But we’d figured you’d be okay with it. She’s pretty new, so go easy on her, yeah?” Adrien smiled and nodded. “Great. We’re almost done setting everything up, be ready in ten.”
The photographer walked away along with the intern, allowing Adrien to finally get a look at the new model.
Lila Rossi.
“Lila!” Why hadn’t she brought this up before? “Since when are you a model? You never mentioned it before.”
“About that; funny story actually,” she giggled. “I hadn’t told anyone because, one; I’d only been hired recently and two, even if they had hired me sooner, I was told not to tell anyone. I had no idea you’d be the one I was working with since all they told me is that I’d be with some big-time model and not to bring it up until after.”
“Oh,” he murmured. That didn’t answer all of his questions, but he could always ask later when they had more time. Shaking himself out of his thoughts, he plastered a smile on his face. “Well. I’m glad to be working with a friend.”
“So am I,” Lila purred. Something in her eyes made Adrien want to turn away and run while she took a step closer to him. “I’ve been thinking, you know.”
Adrien stared cautiously at the manicured finger that was making its way up his chest. “Oh?”
“Mhm. I think, as friends, it’s important to have close relationships with everyone in the group. But it seems like you and I aren’t all that close.”
“We’re plenty close right now, aren’t we?” He joked, shifting away from her slightly.
Lila maintained the contact between the two, seeming as if she had no intention of moving away any time soon. “You know what I meant, silly.” Her gaze was finally torn away from his arms and chest, locking on his eyes instead. “We don’t spend nearly enough time together, and I think the two of us should hang out more. Maybe after this shoot is over we could--”
“Alright guys, come on over!” Adrien didn’t think he could have been more grateful for Cecil than he was at that moment.
“We’re coming!” He shouted across the room. Removing himself from Lila’s touch, Adrien turned to face her again and placed a hand on her shoulder. “You’re right Lila, but I’d hate to leave the others out, you know? Besides, we’ve got school after this.”
As the pair walked towards the set Adrien noted the strangled growl that came from behind him, along with the burning sensation that came from where she touched him.
*********
The designer, Jeremy McKnight, was present the entire shoot-- adamant about being there to ensure his vision was properly executed. His original idea had been extremely reliant on the theme of good and evil. Light and dark, yin and yang, angels and demons, and so on. Both outfits were simple enough. For Lila, all-black clothing; basic dark jeans, and a black long-sleeved shirt with a dark grey ruffled shirt over it along with black boots to complete it. Adrien was almost completely the opposite. A white long-sleeved shirt and white pants, complete with a light blue button-down overshirt and white tennis shoes.
Both models had a few pictures taken alone before stepping in front of the camera together.
“Alright, you two,” Cecil said as the two walked in front of the camera. “From what I’ve seen, you two have chemistry, which means this part shouldn’t be difficult at all.”
The designer spoke from his chair a few feet away from the camera. “Exactly. What we want is the coming together of light and dark. You guys think you can do that?” Unfortunately, Jeremy fit the stereotype of the diva designer perfectly.  His cliche beret, scarf, and glasses all seeming to feed into the persona.
That wasn’t helping the pit in Adrien’s stomach.
It wasn’t nerves. He’s done countless photoshoots before, the one continuous emotion being boredom. No, this was something else-- something synonymous to fear. Or was it dread?
The two nodded in tandem. “Great!” The designer said. “Let’s see what you guys got.”
*********
A couple of shots later both Cecil and the designer were pleased with the outcome, except for the latter requesting to adjust the two models himself.
Cecil looked at the two for confirmation consent before turning back to the designer. “Yeah sure. Just make it quick, cause we’ve only got about an hour left.”
“What time is it?” Adrien asked.
Cecil looked at his watch. “Seven on the dot.” Looking back up at Adrien, he raised his eyebrow with a chuckle. “You got somewhere to be?”
He smiled sheepishly. “School.”
He chuckled. "Fair enough. Alright Mr. McKnight, come on over."
Jeremy walked towards the two with his nose in the air and began his adjustments. In the end, Adrien was facing towards the camera with his hip jutted to the left and his head in his pockets. His head was angled slightly upwards while his gaze was still locked on the camera. Lila's body was faced entirely towards Adrien, with one arm on his shoulder and the other with its thumb in her belt loop. Her head faced the camera and the designer beamed at his work.
He wasn’t claustrophobic, that was what he knew. But right then and there the suffocation he felt was overwhelming and he felt faint. His breathing grew shallow and his palms were sweaty and the ground was swaying but Lila and Jeremy didn’t seem to notice. In fact, it seemed as if they were getting close to him and that Lila’s grip on his arm was getting tighter. Worst of all, the burning spread. It spread from his shoulder and filled his chest and melded with his brain and sank into the soles of his feet. It grew so hot that it felt cold and the fear grew with it and Jesus was he about to die?
“Great,” Jeremy said. “How does that feel?”
Adrien couldn’t really tell if he nodded, hoping the strangled noise that came from somewhere was both his and a  sign of confirmation.
“It’s perfect,” Lila said.
“Alright then,” Said the photographer. “Last couple pictures and we’re done.”
*********
Lila and Adrien (after securing a sleeping Plagg in the pocket of his school bag) returned from the dressing rooms at the same time, both dressed in their school attire and their bags on them.
Adrien released a deep breath and Lila sighed next to him. Her hand somehow back on his shoulder. After Jeremy had moved away from him earlier the suffocation subsided but it wasn’t until Cecil called him over to where his tripod was set up that the pain had all but went away.
“Hey, you alright man?” He asked softly, making sure that the girl on her phone not too far from them couldn’t hear the question.
“Yeah,” Adrien said. “Why?”
In any other situation, the dumbfounded look that Cecil gave Adrien might have made him laugh, but right now he was worried. Why wouldn’t he be okay?
The photographer took a deep breath and pinched the bridge of his nose before sighing deeply and kept on speaking. “I’m gonna help the rest of the crew put all this away then meet up with Mona downstairs,” Cecil huffed at his uncooperative tripod before it finally conceded and he continued. “I know you two have school, but if you want I wouldn’t mind buying a cup for you.” He sighed at Adrien. “Looks like you need it.”
Adrien sighed, “Yeah. Yeah, that sounds nice.” He called to the girl not too far from him. “What about you, Lila?”
“Hmm?” She'd been texting furiously to someone on the other end of her phone. Based on the look in her eyes, he’d hate to be whoever that was right now.
“Do you mind stopping for a coffee before heading to school? I’ll make sure to give you a ride if you do.”
“Oh,” she smiled and put her phone in her grey messenger bag. “Sure. As I said, it couldn’t hurt for us to spend more time together.”
Adrien just shrugged at the curiously worried look Cecil gave him.
As the trio walked down to the ground level Lila questioned where Mr. McKnight had gone.
“No idea,” Cecil said.
Just as they turned the corner, Adrien could have sworn he felt a pair of eyes on him. He caught a glimpse of them, most likely imagining the red gaze burning through his back directly into his soul.
*********
“Thank you both so much!” Lila called as she slid into the back seat of the limo, her drink in hand.
Cecil looked at Mona and nodded. “Hey Lila you go on ahead,” she said. “We’ve got something we need to talk to Adrien about.”
Halfway out the door, Lila shot a look at Adrien who nodded.
Mona’s tongue fiddled with her lip piercing. “Are you and Lila dating?”
Naturally, he’d been taking a sip of his tea at that time; which meant he choked while burning his throat and nose.
Fun.
After reassuring the couple that he was okay, he answered Mona’s question. “No. no we’re not. Why?”
“I told her about earlier,” Cecil said. “About how uncomfortable you looked. If you two aren’t dating-- are you okay?”
Adrien’s heart warmed at the fact that they cared enough. He hadn’t felt a love like that in a while. Smiling, he answered. “Thank you both, but I’m okay. Lila can be somewhat… touchy-- but that’s just how she is. I swear I’m alright.”
They looked at each other skeptically, silently having some sort of conversation that Adrien, despite speaking several languages, couldn’t even begin to decipher what they were thinking.
After a long, drawn-out silence, they nod and Mona says one more thing before they leave to walk to their car. “Hey, in case she ever tries anything-- I can’t always be there but please remember that you’re allowed to be uncomfortable and say no.” He nodded and said goodbye to the both of them.
He slid into the seat next to Lila, handing her his cup to avoid spilling on the leather seats.
“What’d you get yelled at for?” She asked. He couldn’t tell if she was serious.
“Nothing I was in trouble for. Just a reminder. ”
Aside from Lila’s attempts to start a conversation, the rest of the ride was silent as Adrien did his best to figure out exactly why Mona had been concerned, too deep in thought to notice the burning sensation spread as Lila ran a hand up and down his thigh.

How to Make Kimchi- Significance and Recipe
Tumblr media
Recipe adapted from YouTube channel EmmyMadeInJapan @ https://www.youtube.com/emmy/
South Korea has always had a special place in my heart. I began taking taekwondo at 5 years old, and my instructor was one of the most important figures in my formative years.
Eventually, my love of Korean culture brought me to study abroad at Yonsei University in Fall 2018- an experience that would grant me so many amazing experiences (and the adoption of my special Korean stray cat, Virtute). One of the most memorable aspects of my life in Seoul was the incredible amount of kimchi (김치) I consumed with nearly every meal. For my research project, I am exploring the role of kimchi in Korean cuisine and how it has become such an important cultural and dietary artifact of Korean culture and identity. Kimchi-making is an experience that every person that enjoys eating it should take part in at least once in their lives.
Kimchi has existed on the Korean peninsula in some capacity for centuries. This document from the Samkuksaki, is considered to be the oldest surviving account of Korean history; this suggests that kimchi has been a part of Korean identity at least as long as Korean history has been recorded.
Tumblr media
This translation of the document is provided by authors Dai-Ja Jang, Kyung Rhan Chung, Hye Jeong Yang, Kang-sung Kim, and Dae Young Kwon in their scholarly article “Discussion on the origin of kimchi, representative of Korean unique fermented vegetables”. According to Jang et al., the kimchi-making process was integral to Korean survival in the harsh winter season; known as kimjang (김장), kimchi-making involved many villagers getting together to make enough kimchi to last throughout the winter. Kimchi’s fermentation process allowed it to be stored by burying it in a jar in the cold ground.
Their analysis provides an extremely comprehensive case for the idea that kimchi has existed in Korea in a precursory capacity before its previously accepted origin period.
The importance of kimchi does not end in the Three Kingdoms Period, however. Korean chef Si-hyeong Ryu knew that kimchi could be a great way to share Korean culture with the rest of the world. Chef Ryu discusses his thought process in a 2014 interview with Arirang TV. In 2011, Ryu began the Kimchi Bus Project. He decided on the name ‘Kimchi Bus’ because “You immediately think of Korea when you hear [kimchi]”. The word kimchi has become synonymous with Korea because of its historical importance, but also its status as an irreplaceable part of nearly every Korean meal. The Kimchi Bus Project allows Chef Ryu to drive across the globe sharing his passion for Korean cuisine; he goes on to describe how he “decided to mix cabbage kimchi with the traditional dishes of the country [he] was visiting”.
Since his first voyage, Chef Ryu has continued to spread the love of kimchi across the world for years now. Food is a cultural experience that transcends language barriers, and kimchi is no exception. Chef Ryu is not the only one to recognize kimchi’s importance as a cultural artifact, however.
In 2014, kimjang was inscribed by the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee For The Safeguarding Of The Intangible Cultural Heritage to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The document is both a meeting log for the Committee, as well as documentation of the approved inscriptions.
This list is reserved for cultural practices and artifacts that exemplify humanity’s capacity for cooperation, passing knowledge down the generations, as well as encouraging dialogue between different communities. Kimchi-making is integral in facilitating communication and a sense of cultural identity among Koreans, and it also serves as an important cultural signifier of Korean heritage to other communities abroad. The Committee identifies kimjang as fitting these five criteria:
R.1:  Transmitted through generations in everyday family life, Kimjang allows Koreans to practise the spirit of sharing among neighbours, while promoting solidarity and providing them a sense of identity and belonging;
R.2:  Inscription of Kimjang could contribute to the visibility of intangible cultural heritage by enhancing dialogue among different communities nationally and internationally that practise foodways that similarly make creative use of natural resources;
R.3:  Although Kimjang is spontaneously transmitted within Korean families, measures are proposed to strengthen its safeguarding including formal education in school curricula and adoption of legislative provisions on measures for its promotion, as well as measures to mitigate industrialization of kimchi-making;
R.4:  Korean communities at three different levels – general public, local governments and academia – have participated through surveys in the elaboration of the nomination and have provided their free, prior and informed consent;
R.5:  After a multi-year process of consultation with communities concerned and civil society organizations, Kimjang was included in 2011 in the State Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage maintained by the Cultural Heritage Administration.

With this important historical and cultural context in mind, let’s learn how to make our own kimchi to enjoy with our friends and family!
Here is what you will need to make this simplified, small batch of kimchi:
INGREDIENTS
1 Head of napa cabbage
1 medium carrot (I’m using two smaller carrots)
1/2 cup kosher salt
1½ Tbsp glutinous rice flour (also known as mochiko flour)
1 Tbsp sugar
½ Medium yellow onion
5 Cloves peeled garlic
1-inch Knob of fresh ginger
½ Ripe pear or Korean pear
3 Tbsp fish sauce
½ Cup Korean red pepper flakes (Gochugaru; 고춧가루)
UTENSILS
Cutting board and knife
Fine grater
Plastic kitchen gloves (optional but highly recommended)
Sterilized 1-quart jar with canning lid or plastic lid
INSTRUCTIONS
1.  Prepare the cabbage
Rinse the napa cabbage thoroughly, making sure to get any dirt out from between the leaves and down toward the root. Cut the cabbage into quarters lengthwise. Make small diagonal cuts to remove the cores from each quarter as shown. Cut each quarter crosswise into 2-inch-wide strips.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Brine the cabbage
Place the cabbage pieces in a large bowl and sprinkle with the kosher salt. You can weigh down the cabbage with a plate or can if it isn’t fully immersed. Add enough water to cover the cabbage and let sit for 1 to 1/½ hours. While the cabbage is in the brine, peel and cut the carrot into thin matchsticks using a mandolin or knife and set aside.
Tumblr media
Above: Cabbage before brine was added, approx. 2 inch chunks
3. Make the rice flour paste
Combine the glutinous rice flour with ½ cup of water in a small saucepan with the heat off. Mix the paste thoroughly before turning on the heat in order to get rid of lumps. Heat the mixture on medium heat until it thickens; it should take less than 5 minutes. When the paste is almost done, add in the tablespoon of sugar and whisk to combine.
The purpose of this mixture is to act as a sticking agent for the kimchi paste as well as round out the kimchi flavor with sweetness. It is important to do this step during the brining process as the paste needs time to cool completely before adding to the kimchi paste.
Tumblr media
4. Make the kimchi paste
Using the finer side of a box grater, grate into a bowl half of a medium onion, 5 peeled garlic cloves, 1-inch knob of ginger, and half of a peeled ripe pear. A Korean pear is preferable, but a regular pear will work fine. Add the rice flour paste to the mixture along with a ½ cup of Korean red pepper flakes, also known as gochugaru. Finally, add three tablespoons of fish sauce as well as the julienned carrots and stir to combine.
Tumblr media
5. Final assembly
At this point the cabbage should be properly brined. Drain and lightly rinse the cabbage, gently squeezing excess water out. If you’re going to be using gloves, now is the time to put them on! Using your hands, massage the paste into the cabbage making sure that every piece is covered well.
Tumblr media
6. Pack the kimchi!
Once the cabbage is coated in the mixture, pack it into a sterilized 1-quart jar with a canning lid or plastic lid. The fermenting process requires that the kimchi is packed tightly to avoid pockets of air and that every piece is submerged in the liquid.
Tumblr media
7. Final thoughts
This picture was taken before the kimchi was packed down all the way- notice the air pockets? This jar I used was a little too big for the amount of kimchi I made. However, a jar that is too big is preferable to a jar that is too small... I’ve heard many horror stories of peoples’ kimchi jars exploding because they did not leave proper room at the top for the fermentation gases, and/or tightened the lid too much for gases to escape.
When the kimchi is packed into the jar, you can leave it out at room temperature for a day or two with the lid loosely tightened. The fermentation process takes place faster at room temperature. Kimchi honestly tastes better the longer it is allowed to ferment. I ended up leaving this jar out on the counter for two days, then tightening the lid the rest of the way and putting it in the fridge. It is ready to eat immediately after the sauce is added, so you can enjoy it whenever is your preference.
Check on the kimchi daily, pressing it down with a spoon or your (gloved) hand to make sure it is covered in the kimchi juice. I cannot stress enough how much this stains! You may notice that the kimchi juice has bubbles- this is the fermentation process at work and is completely normal.
Enjoy!

Kansas is KS, when USA is still 1 as 50 states, when separated what they produce can be bought in other states as every state has now known how to make jets and planes as explained in tumblr a/c sirjustice300. With wheat and cooking oil many states has the same, and out of 1 state opt not 4 Canada 1 but saying they are eying Mexican market as close to them than all the growing states not knowing they cannot sell all their wheat all alone to Mexico as other people prefers different wheat taste from other states and if they import things which they got not from Canada like then Canada will export their wheat unto them out of bilateral ties now that we got no-etra expense plane/drone as far as fuel is concerned as if so they make artificial jet fuel using place kale in water in the boom process saving the money they ought to have channeled to such fuel, making whether near the customer or far a thing of the past and useless dude as in the link below

The end of April brought a flurry of activity. First of all, Avengers: Endgame. Yes, I saw it. I loved it. Don’t worry, no spoilers here (except that Antman is awesome and I’ve been saying that since his first movie).
Second, Game of Thrones. I’m hardly a fan, but my fiancé  is so I’ve been half watching it while he’s glued to the TV. After last night’s episode [season 8, episode 3] I’m still not a fan but was not at all surprised by the outcome. “Called it,” I remember saying at the climax of the episode. I was promptly shushed afterwards.
Third, the Renaissance Faire is going on in Southern California. The fiancé and I are big on the Faire and love getting dressed up in Viking garb. He’s a little more hardcore than I am about it (a lot more hardcore) and thus gets stopped by a few people for pictures.
Lastly, it was also his birthday on Saturday! Going to the Renaissance Faire all weekend was part of his birthday present from me, but of course I had to bake him something.
Since Richard doesn’t really care about cake, I decided to make him a dessert he’d actually care about. I didn’t have a whole lot of time to bake because work had been busy, and I wanted to surprise him, so I took a giant shortcut.
That’s right, brownie mix. He had said he’d been craving brownies lately, so why not make birthday brownies! I call these Super Easy Birthday Brownies  and you can see the full recipe by clicking on that link.
I made a few adjustments to the box mix, however, that I’d like to share with you. First off, the standard box recipe says to use 2/3 cup oil. When making these, I only had 1/3 cup oil and so I improvised by using 1/3 cup of melted butter as well.
I was a little apprehensive about it as I wasn’t sure if the brownies would come out too dense, but continued on with the bake.
The other addition to the batter was adding in sprinkles. I didn’t measure out a specific amount, but poured some in until I was satisfied.
#gallery-0-17 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-17 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 100%; } #gallery-0-17 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-17 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The box then says to bake for 28-31 minutes. I went with 28. Once they were cooled, I turned to the white chocolate wafers to use as a topping.
I used my chocolate melt for this step, but you can also melt the wafers in a microwave in 30 second intervals, making sure to stir in between.
Once thoroughly melted, pour the chocolate over the brownies and spread as evenly as possible. Then add more sprinkles before the chocolate hardens.
#gallery-0-18 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-18 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 100%; } #gallery-0-18 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-18 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Richard had come home from dog sitting Friday night at 11:57 PM. Yes, I was staring at the clock for his arrival. As soon as I heard him arriving, I stuck candles in the completely cooled brownies and proceeded with the whole “make a wish” spiel. I hope he made a good one.
While at the Renaissance Faire, I of course had to try the baked goods they had offered. Welsh Cakes, Nutella Beignets, Chocolate Bacon, and Scotch Eggs being just the few I tried.
#gallery-0-19 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-19 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 100%; } #gallery-0-19 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-19 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Welsh Cakes, to me, are like thick, soft cookies. They are traditional in Wales and, according to Wikipedia, “they have been popular since the late 19th century with the addition of fat, sugar and dried fruit to a longer standing recipe for flat-bread baked on a griddle.”
Beignets are “synonymous with the English fritter, is the French term for a pastry made from deep-fried choux pastry.” They are basically light, airy donuts, that can be served either as a breakfast food or a standard dessert.
Honestly, any time is a good time to eat a beignet.
Chocolate bacon is just a piece of bacon dipped in chocolate. Super easy to make, which I’ll probably be doing in the future. $3.50 is a lot to pay for for just one piece of bacon.
Scotch Eggs are something I would never have thought to eat. Richard is one of those people who has to have one every time we go to Faire, and I decided to take a nibble.
They’re pretty darn good which is unsurprising seeing as what’s inside. A hard boiled egg, wrapped in sausage, covered in bread crumbs, and deep fried. I had to stop myself from eating Richard’s entire snack. I also don’t want to think about the calories I had just consumed in one bite.
#gallery-0-20 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-20 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 100%; } #gallery-0-20 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-20 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
There’s a lovely honey stand at the Faire that we always stop at to stock upon supplies. I’ve never had a full on honeycomb before so Richard was sweet enough to buy me one.
I didn’t know what to expect, but that pure burst of honey is absolutely delicious. Then you start chewing on the honeycomb part and I decided I didn’t particularly care for it.
All in all, a very successful end to a busy month. May will be here in a blink of an eye and that month will be even better, as it’s my birthday month! And since it’s my month, I’ve decreed everything I bake and share will be lemon flavored.
So get ready for some new lemon bakes and another round of birthday shenanigans!
To see how our wedding plans are going, check out Seven Months Til I Do
Birthday Shenanigans and Faire Baked Goods The end of April brought a flurry of activity. First of all, Avengers: Endgame. Yes, I saw it.

One of my very favourite things to do on the weekends is go to the farmer’s market! It is always made all that much better with a warm Börek or Gözleme in hand. Usually filled with spinach and feta, but sometimes, spicy lamb or potato, which are all delicious. It feels synonymous with the whole market experience, and is the inspiration behind this recipe, which I find myself making often on the weekends! My dough contains both yeast and yoghurt, making it an easy dough to work with, and also incredibly light and fluffy once cooked.
Sometimes I stuff these flatbreads with a spicy mixture of potato and herbs which is reminiscent of Indian Aloo Paratha, or with leftover roast pumpkin with sage and mozzarella. But the most popular iteration at home is this simple spinach and feta filling which is herbaceous and full of flavour. I’ve used a whole bunch of spinach here, but baby spinach leaves would be a great alternative too. Whichever greens you use, just be sure they are thoroughly dried to avoid a soggy interior. You could also use a combination of ricotta and feta for a creamier filling. Feel free to play around with the herbs – coriander or mint would be a wonderful addition, as would some dried chilli flakes for a bit of heat.

Ingredients
(Makes 8)
500g plain flour, plus extra for dusting 5g dry active yeast 8g sea salt 1 tsp caster sugar 2tbsp extra virgin olive oil, plus extra greasing 200g natural yoghurt 200ml warm water
Spinach and feta filling 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, plus extra for drizzling 1 onion, finely sliced 3 cloves garlic, roughly chopped 1 tbsp cumin seeds Zest of a lemon ½ bunch of dill, roughly chopped ½ bunch parsley, roughly chopped 1 bunch spinach leaves, roughly chopped and thoroughly dried (around 300g of leaves) 300g Greek feta, crumbled Sea salt and pepper
To Serve: Dill fronds Lemon wedges Natural yoghurt
method
Make the dough by combining all of the ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook. Mix on a low speed to begin, then increase the speed to high and mix for 4-5 minutes or until the dough is elastic and shiny. Transfer to a well oiled bowl and coat the dough in the oil, then cover and allow to rise for one hour, or until doubled in size.
Meanwhile, prepare the filling by warming the olive oil in a pan over a low-medium heat. Gently fry the onion until soft and beginning to colour, around 10 minutes. Add in the garlic and cumin seeds and cook for a further two minutes or until the garlic is softened and the cumin is fragrant. Transfer to a large bowl and allow to cool. Add in the remaining ingredients and drizzle with some more extra virgin olive oil, just a tablespoon will do. Mix really well, ensuring there are no large pieces of feta as it will pierce holes in the dough when they are rolled. Season to taste.
Turn the dough onto a work surface and divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball. Dust your work surface with flour and flatten each ball of dough with the palm of your hand and roll into a rough circle around 15cm in diameter dusting with flour as you need. Place approximately ½ cup of filling into the centre of the dough. Seal the flatbread by bringing the edges into the centre and pinching to seal. Repeat with remaining pieces of dough. Dust the little parcels with flour on both sides so they don’t stick to the bench or work surface, and gently flatten with your hands or roll until they are around 1cm in thickness, being careful not to make any holes. If holes do occur, try to pinch the dough back together with your fingers to seal.
Heat a pan over a medium heat and cook the flatbread in the pan until golden and cooked through on both sides (around 2 minutes on each side). Repeat with remaining flatbreads.
Serve the flatbreads with wedges of lemon, extra dill and yoghurt drizzled with a little olive oil and seasoned with salt and pepper.
What else I’m cooking with…
Brussels sprouts, roasted in the oven with soy, sesame oil and butter.
What else I’m eating…
Leatherwood honey and frangipane tart from Etta in Brunswick East.

How It Is Possible For Women Over 40 To Lose Weight Without Diet or Exercise
Losing weight seems an uphill task to many, especially when you need to lose weight fast.
And especially when you need to look good for an upcoming occasion or event.
For achieving quick weight loss like ten pounds in a week, people often resort to crash dieting or spend hours sweating out in the gym.
Tumblr media
In fact, there are countless fad diets that enable you to shed pounds in a couple of days, but they have detrimental effects on your body and health, leaving you sick, hungry and nutrition deprived.
Of course, there are other painless ways to achieve this goal without dieting.
All you need to do is maintain a healthy lifestyle comprising of nutrition, fitness, proper sleep and hydration.
Here are 12 strategies to get you going.
If you’re consistent enough, it can lead you to losing up to 20 pounds in a matter of 2 weeks, just like it did for my friend Jennifer who used to weigh over 200 pounds. She lost 10 pounds in the first 7 days of consistently putting these tips to work. And ended up losing over 48 pounds in that same year!
And the best part of all this is – there is no gym or diet required.
1. Burn 5000 Calories More Than You Take In
In order to lose 10 pounds in a week, you need to burn 5000 more calories than you take in per day.
Agreed, that’s too much for an average person, but you have to push yourself to achieve this goal.
Also, it should be kept in mind that an average person burns about 2000 calories while doing normal routine activities.
This means that if you consume exactly 2000 calories through food every day, you will neither gain nor lose weight.
To burn extra calories, you can make simple changes in your lifestyle like walking instead of driving, taking stairs instead of the lift and simply breathing.
2. Do Not Skip Breakfast
Breakfast is, undoubtedly, one of the most important meals of the day and skipping it in an urge to cut calories is not at all a great option.
In fact, several studies have shown that people who had breakfast regularly had comparatively lower BMIs than breakfast skippers.
So, kick start your day a healthy and nutritious way by having a bowl of oatmeal or whole grain cereal topped with fruit or low fat dairy. Y
ou can also have scrambled eggs to fulfil your protein requirements, but avoid heavy and oily foods for breakfast.
3. Incorporate Lean Proteins In Your Diet
Incorporating lean proteins in your meals and snacks will keep you from overeating by keeping you full for longer.
You can try 98% lean beef, skinless chicken breast, eggs and certain fish like salmon.
For vegetarians, soy products like edamame or tofu, low fat yogurt, peanut butter, nuts and beans are good sources of lean proteins.
Besides, it is advisable to have frequent meals at an interval of 3 to 4 hours to maintain your blood sugar levels and avoid overindulgence.
4. Cut the Consumption of Simple Carbohydrates
Simple carbs, also known as refined carbohydrates, get absorbed by our body quickly but provide zero nutrition.
So it is advisable to stay away from simple carbs like cookies, candies, molasses, honey, cakes and other baked sweets, and packaged cereals.
5. Avoid Fast Food
Fast foods are synonymous of unhealthy foods. Besides being loaded with trans-fat, fast foods like fries, burgers and shakes contain a whopping amount of sugar and salt which can cause you to pile on the pounds.
They are also nil in terms of nutrition. Hence, if you want to shed ten pounds effectively, it is advisable to avoid fast foods completely.
6. Eat Smaller Portions
It will be, indeed, pleasing to know that reducing your portion size by 10% to 20% can also lead to weight loss.
You can trim your portion size by using smaller bowls and plates or measuring cups to measure your portion sizes.
Eating smaller frequent meals will not only keep you full, but also boost your metabolism, thus leading to weight loss.
7. Avoid Late Night Snacking
We can’t deny the fact that most of us indulge in mindless late night snacking while watching television or late night working.
We don’t realize that we are loading our bodies with unnecessary calories by doing so. It is advisable to have your dinner before 9 at night.
If you want to have dessert, you can have a bowl of light ice cream or frozen yogurt. After that, just brush your teeth so that you are less likely to eat or drink anything else.
One last thing… you should try this 2-minute “after-dinner ritual” that burns up to 2 pounds of belly fat per day…
“All this by a 2-minute “after-dinner ritual?” I asked.
I met an old friend for lunch last year and I was super impressed with how she lost 70 pounds in 3 months.
She said, “It’s not so much about the “after-dinner ritual”, but more about how it gives you a regenerative form of deep sleep that is responsible for everything we need to dramatically increase our fat burning metabolism and improve our health and appearance.”
Even though I was skeptical, I’ve been struggling with my weight over the last few years, so I gave it a shot and watched the same video she did.
Well, it’s only a couple weeks later and you know what they say about how “you can’t transform your body overnight”…
They’re right — it actually took me 14 days to lose 20 pounds.
Now it’s my girlfriends asking ME what I’M doing differently
Imagine your body being beach ready before Memorial Day.
Imagine enjoying the foods you love: pasta, wine, or even a dessert — completely guilt-free.
And imagine feeling good and living your life without obsessing about every single calorie you eat…
All while knowing your health is being protected by one of the most powerful natural healing rituals ever discovered.
Click here to see the 2-minute after dinner ritual that helped me melt away 20 pounds in just 14 days

Halloween candy, ranked
43. Peeps: Plumbing caulk. Leftover foam party residue. I don’t care if you made it look like a cute little ghostie. It’s still meringue with poor self-esteem.
42. Popcorn balls: At least hand out apples, Mom.
41. Weird off-brand chocolate wrapped in foil: If a candy sits in a bowl and no one eats it, is it still candy? At what point does it become an artifact?
40. Candy pumpkins: The candy equivalent of eating crown molding. This is for decoration.
39. Candy corn: Though it is similar to its pumpkin-shaped colleague, the saving grace of these most divisive Halloween candies is that you can stick them on your canine teeth and pretend to be a vampire with gingivitis. What would you call that flavor, anyway? Expired sugar? Dull resignation to the way things have always been? Be better to yourself.
38. Lollipops: Dum Dums are legit. Anything else takes too long and keeps you from eating other candy.
37. Bubblegum: See above. As a Koopa shell is in Mario Kart, so this is. It just gets in the way. Don’t get me started on Blow Pops.
36. Smarties: Some blackboard chalk magnate is cackling at the greatest scam ever pulled.
35. Swedish Fish: Like a fine malbec, one cannot appreciate Poseidon’s gummiest children until adulthood, and even then only if they have particular tastes. They’re not worth putting in a festive cauldron for all to enjoy.
34. Taffy: No one else is in on the joke, grandma.
33. Jellybeans: I want to shove candy in my mouth, not consult a chart just to figure out if I’m about to taste lemon or pee.
32. Jolly Ranchers: These are a prize for many children, enticed by a shard of glass that will turn their tongue blue. The discerning confection connoisseur knows they’re one-note and cloying.
31. Airheads: Only ranked higher than taffy because it doesn’t double as a low-cost dental filling. Softer, gentler, still inessential.
30. Nerds: These are heterosexual Pop Rocks.
29. 3 Musketeers: You get out of life what you put into it. If you put in only nougat, you become the elevator music of candies.
28. Milk Duds: I love a Milk Dud. I hate needing a Waterpik and a blowtorch to not look like Austin Powers when I’m done.
27. Pixy Stix: One one hand, I respect the simplicity of distilling the concept of candy to straight-up sugar granules. On the other hand, it’s like ordering coffee at Starbucks and just getting a cup of beans. Do a little work, man.
26. Hershey’s Kisses: This is a Christmas candy.
25. Hershey’s Bar: It’s like eating a dry baked potato. Sure, you can do it. But you don’t have to.
24. Sweet Tarts: Smarties are Olivia Newton-John at the beginning of “Grease.” Sweet Tarts are Olivia Newton-John in leather pants.
23. Sour Patch Kids: A year-round favorite of kids, and for good reason, but don’t you find all that sour sugar gauche?
22. Kit Kat: Humble and workmanlike, like a dad who works nights.
21. M&Ms (peanut): This will be an upset ranking, but I don’t care. These are not bad, but I’ve never eaten a bag of plain M&Ms and thought, “I wish this tasted like a free snack from a bar.”
20. Snickers: The prototypical candy bar. You’ve got your chocolate, your caramel, your nuts. Somehow, that chewy devil, nougat, snuck into this party. But all things considered, it’s earned its prestige.
19. Milky Way: There is a small chance I just don’t love peanuts in my candy.
18. Twix: The main problem with candy in general is that it’s not cookies. These sugary Frankenstein sticks found a crunchy, chewy gap in the market and filled it like capitalist heroes.
17. Almond Joy: A flood of tender, tropical sweetness mixed with crunchy, hearty almonds and enveloped in milk chocolate. My stance on nuts is becoming more inscrutable by the minute. I guess sometimes you do feel like a nut.
16. Pop Rocks: For the kind of Halloween that says, “I WANT CANDY TO PUNCH MY TONGUE REPEATEDLY BUT ALSO HISS INSIDE ME LIKE A MELTING SNAKE.”
15. Nestle Crunch: Look no further for evidence that texture is a major player in the confectionary Hunger Games. The defined ridges on the Crunch bar are fun to bite into; the crisped rice mixed in keeps the sensations coming with each chew.
14. Whoppers: They’re like little eggs filled with crunchy powder that taste like an ice cream treat. Weird, but good! They’ve been around in some form since the late 1930s, which is exactly the era in which you’d think someone would create something called a “malted milk ball.”
13. Lemonheads: This list has not been kind to harder candies, but Lemonheads (and to a lesser extent, their various fruit-flavored siblings) combine a sweet-and-sour lemon flavor that’s not too precious with a layered texture experience. Bonus: The creator named them after his newborn son because he thought the baby’s head looked like a lemon. Delicious and inspired by a casual insult to an infant!
12. Starburst: Picking up taffy’s slack since 1960.
11. Skittles: Just not the purple ones.
10. 100 Grand: This candy bar makes me feel like I have clear pores and a Roth IRA.
9. Tootsie Pops: See, lollipops? All you needed was a little punch of chocolate in the middle to transcend this world.
8. Dots: Soft, juicy and unique in their interpretation of a classic fruit palette. Don’t sleep on these gumdrops.
7. M&Ms (plain): Peanuts are a distraction. I meant it.
6. Reese’s Pieces: On the other hand … You’re going to start noticing a theme, and it’s that I will praise peanut butter like I’m a choosy mom who chooses bribes from the peanut butter lobby.
5. Twizzlers: Black licorice? A poisonous hose. Red Twizzlers? A delicious, edible soda straw.
4. Gummy worms: You could slot any gummy product here, because they’re all pretty legit, but the worms take the trophy home with their name engraved on it, due to the fact that they’re spooky.
3. Tootsie Rolls: It has recently come to my attention that many people dislike Tootsie Rolls. This happened when I expressed my love for it at work, and my colleagues shrieked like I’d told them our newspaper was pivoting to video. They are wrong, and I question their moral fiber. Tootsie Rolls are chewy, they have a mellow cocoa taste and they’re really hard to melt. Also, this fact, per the Tootsie Roll website, is bonkers and worthy of respect on the creepiest holiday: Inventor Leo Hirshfield’s “recipe required the incorporation of the previous day’s Tootsie Rolls into each newly cooked confection, a graining process that Tootsie continues to this day. As such, there’s (theoretically) a bit of Leo’s very first Tootsie Roll in every one of the sixty four million Tootsie Rolls that Tootsie produces each day.”
2. Butterfinger: Just enough of a peanut butter flavor to be warm and familiar, but just different enough to be its own thing. Perhaps the most gorgeous of the candies on this list — more treats should look like geologic formations when you bite into them. Crispety, crunchety orange shale forever.
1. Reese’s Cups: King candy. The reigning champion of decadence. You know you’re in charge when your name becomes synonymous with your flavor combination. When I worked at Amy’s Ice Creams, we were told the peanut butter cups were one of the most expensive crush’ns. Royalty knows its worth. Now, figure out a way to get more peanut butter in that cup.
