The further I get in the re-read the more the whole Morgase storyline becomes one of my least favourite.

I fundamentally find the whole thing frustrating because so much of the conflict comes from people not having all the information. Like… people think morgase is dead when she’s not, other people don’t know Gabriel was Rahvin so blame morgase for the crap he did, people think Rand killed her when he didn’t, people don’t know that Rand doesn’t want to rule Caemlyn and is just trying his best to hold it for the rightful heir….

Like, what if Rand had issued a proclamation stating that Gabriel was Rahvin and that he had been using compulsion on the queen and she was not responsible for the atrocious decisions made since he showed up and explained that he killed Ravin to avenge her presumed death? Morgase could’ve come back and reclaimed the throne and we wouldn’t have to deal with the weird Talinvore “romance” and the gross King what’s his face and white cloak stuff. And maybe gawyn wouldn’t be Such an irritating idiot… well… maybe.

Idk the whole thing just annoys me.

I had forgotten how much the full division of the White Tower was Siuan’s fault!

Girl what are you doing?!

It’s so interesting how Egwene’s philosophy comes to diverge so much from Siuans. And also how the reader is led on a journey from one to the other. When I first read the series I was completely on Siuan’s side. No consideration for the importance of the unity of the tower as an institution, just hatred for Elaida and the reds and dismissal of those who stayed in the tower. These ‘rebels’ were the true Aes Sedai, the ones who saw the truth and stood for justice.

By the end of the series I’m 100% with Egwene. The tower must be whole. The political inner squabbling is petty and must be overcome. The Red sisters have an important place in the tower and must be included in the reconciliation along with the blues. It does not have to be one tower against the other, instead by forging connections and appealing to reason, all sisters can be brought together.

I know a lot of people get tired of the white tower politics, and they certainly can be tedious at times in the minutia, but I genuinely love this whole arc. And Egwene’s philosophy and determination especially are so inspirational to me.
