Hmm, idk about this one because Lestat obvi. did not care enough about Antoinette to bother replacing her finger. And with this theory, you're essentially shifting this selfish and callous act from something Lestat does to maintain his lies into something Claudia does out of petty cruelty—thus painting Lestat in a more compassionate light by making Claudia more villainous. It's a bit of a cop-out. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Ok, I'm pulling this up because the replies got too long :)

​I'm extrapolating behaviorisms from all the books, including the later books, the knowledge Lestat had here (and that Louis and Claudia do not know about yet). They wouldn't have known that body parts could be reattached. He did.

Calling that a cop-out in a fic is a bit weird, don't you think? This isn't a meta in the sense of the word, and it cannot be either, because we haven't seen the truth about season 1 yet, and especially not "murder night" and the happenings there.

And I really don't get why that would make Claudia more "villanous" or that act as "petty cruelty" - that was her finger in a way, he gave it to her, and she took it back off Antoinette because he... cheated. (And yes, he cheated and THAT was very selfish and callous, agreed.) Claudia does that to mortals all the time. Why is this different here? Yes, she hated Antoinette, but at the same time I'd say that Antoinette didn't even deserve her consideration in her mind, outside the necessary consideration to make her plan work that is.

These vampires are vampires. They kill and mutilate aaalllll the time. Hell, shortly before the incinerator scene Louis tore off someone's jaw. Claudia used the twins, poisoning them to fool Lestat (and Louis). I don't quite get why the finger would blip differently in any of that tbh. These... people are not human anymore, and in a very real way Claudia is more vampire than Louis or Lestat combined.

And re the not caring about Antoinette... I'm not so sure tbh. Season 1 was very... let's say shaped, Louis painted her as the Mistress, the one so beautiful and alluring she pulled Lestat away from him - and then, when she is turned she suddenly has wrinkles, she is ugly in his eyes... we'll see how the whole Antoinette-arc will hold up in the long run (as I said in my other post re Antoinette this could go either way btw, if she shows up in Paris it'll definitely get worse, lol), but as with all things on this show there is more to it.

And in regards to Lestat "only doing this to maintain his lies" - really? That is why he turns her? Why he keeps going to her over decades? This is why he (supposedly) says she will fit much better with him and Louis? Because he tries to maintain his lies? I really don't think so. I think there is much, much more to it, and (we know that we have only seen half the story....) as said before, I am filling in gaps with the context I know of from the Chronicles (and Lestat did care at least a bit more about Antoine there, even if he left him behind), and the chapters dealing with 5-7 might not align with what we've seen because I'm changing it to what might have happened (and what we might get to see yet)... as voted on. The fic is tagged as such, too.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Absolutely I do, and would find it rude not to. I know other people have all kinds of reasons they don't respond but I don't have any of those reasons, especially since I'm pathetically grateful every time someone bothers to say they liked something, lol. If anyone's even a tiny bit encouraged to become a repeat reader by the writer responding, I want to encourage that as much as possible. Plus, every once in a while, you can get a dece conversation going in the comments! Find a like-minded fan! That's worth any effort to compose a few sentences of thanks. The only comments I don't respond to are emoji strings or cut-and-paste 'another kudos here' comments, because they're not actually comments. (I appreciate the thought, but... I don't want them.)

What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I have had some beta friends who would argue about this one, lol. I guess the saddest is probably the hollow summer, since the whole plot is kind of hurt/no comfort. I don't believe in a successful boy king, let's say that.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

again, probably depends on how you define 'happy'. glory days is probably the most cheerful; for me, the happy comes better with more experience behind it, so the thirty-third yard would maybe be my personal choice.

Do you get hate on fics?

nope; worst I ever got was some twerp who actually responded to someone else's comment, bitching that I didn't put the right peepee in the right poopyhole. But only one of those, ever, and safely ignored. idk, I don't attract that much.

Do you write smut?

...yes.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

only one, and it only sort of counts -- i heard love was blind, which is Cordell Walker/Dean Winchester, but of course the point is that Dean's getting the body of his brother by other means. I like crossovers but I usually want there to be a point beyond 'let's mash these two faves together and see what happens'; I'm more inclined toward doing a whole-universe fusion, e.g. fully placing characters with what you can salvage of their key backstory elements into a universe not their own... which I guess would also count as a crossover, wouldn't it. so I also did that with putting the Winchesters into the Dragon Age 2 plot, in whatever we were before. definitely 'crazier' than the first one here, lol.

I think that's the kind of thing that happens on WattPad. Who cares.

yes, a few.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I tried; it didn't work. Both people need to be contributing to the writing for it to really count as 'co-written'; nevertheless it's stuck with both author names on ao3 because I don't think there's a way to change that.

What's your all-time favorite ship?

I think from context this should be clear. Although will also forever hold many small candles for the little guys.

What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

the aforementioned "co-written" fic, which was meant to be a huge series. The first fic is finished because I brute-forced my way through it, but there was a full five-season arc we were going to try to get through. Alas. The first one is decent, though, and works as a complete fic on its own: In a Cursed Hour.

What are your writing strengths?

voice, pacing, naturalism; characterization, though that can be argued in a fan-space

What are your writing weaknesses?

plot -- I find it intensely boring. Avoidance of plot then tends to flatten stories into similar non-arcs; I don't mind that, but it's a skill to exercise.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I'll only do Spanish, and that's only because I studied it for eight years. Even then it's usually the wrong choice, unless it's a fully blended multilingual story (which most are not, and in the wrong hands it comes off as absurd); better to convey through the POV character either understanding it or not, and dealing with it in narrative instead of straight dialogue. Although a word or two here or there is nbd, clearly.

well, questions, you got me, because I don't believe in favorites. at this moment in terms of writing skill I think the best might be asceticism, but in terms of one that sits in my head and fully just is canon, lol, it might be there will be better days, mentioned above. the only heaven fic I need. hey guys, it’s teddy. As you might or might not have noticed by now, @gothteddies got deleted in September by @ st*ff. I tried really hard to get it restored, and I do genuinely believe I hadn’t violated any of the guidelines for adult content on my account (evidenced by the fact that I successfully reappealed my blog being flagged twice before), but st*ff refused to communicate. I’m sure you all know the run-around they give everyone, the same copy paste answer about how your blog was found to be violating community guidelines no matter how many times you ask for more information or to point out where you were violating community guidelines.

Anyways, sparing the details, it doesn’t seem like I’ll be getting @gothteddies back. I’ve this back up blog for a little while, and I have a ton of my old posts backed up here. Unfortunately, I hadn’t backed up posts for a few months when I got deleted, so my archive only goes back til about April. So if you see any posts timestamped from after then, please tag me in them (but check in the notes if someone else has or if I’ve reblogged it here already first). This blog will mostly be running reruns of my old posts for the next week or two to try and pump all that content back out into the world.

In the meantime, I’d like you guys to know that as of right now, I’m not planning to be as active as I was before on here. Losing @gothteddies is more than something I can just start over. I lost all my content, all the back ups I had of my mutual’s content I had saved in my tagging system for them to use when they got deleted, I lost all the work I put into for my blog theme, for my FAQ, my about page, my tag explanations page with all its links, my mutuals, my community, my content filters, my history of interactions with people, all that work is gone. Some of it will be easier to rebuild than other parts. But I don’t have a particular desire to try and rebuild all of that, putting so much work in when tumblr can just pull the rug out from under me when I’m not even flagged and not bothering to even tell me why.

My plan right now is to start this blog, get all my back up content out there first (block the tag #archive spam if you don’t want to see all that clogging your dash), then to use this blog pretty sparingly. I’ll keep posting my original posts, but I’m not going to be a hub for nsfw content anymore. Ill still be reblogging cute stuff when I see it, especially my favorite mutuals, but I don’t plan to scroll my dash and find everything I love and pump my queue constantly and worry about anything on here at all. Posts will be more sparse, and hopefully I will too.

Thanks to everyone that’s been here for the past two years @gothteddies, and even more thanks to the people who’ve been there for even longer on @bdsmteddy before that.

Every few weeks on the Ao3 subreddit, someone feels the need to remind us that Ao3 was created by a proshipper who wanted a "safe space" (stop co-opting social justice terms for petty issues PLEASE) for posting dark content. In other words, people who don't like dark content shouldn't use Ao3.

Babe, what do the preferences of the creator of Ao3 have to do with what I choose to read

I'm a proshipper by strict definition, meaning that I think that harassing/lecturing/doxxing people over their taste in fan content is loser behavior. And, on a site like Ao3, which has a marvelous tagging and filtering system, you can usually avoid most content, provided that the right tags were used in the first place.

However, I don't believe that "it's just fiction" always applies, and, quite frankly, it's a lazy take that doesn't allow for critical thinking (and I mean thinking about your own tastes, not bothering people about theirs). It's ok to analyze your own interests sometimes. It's ok to ask yourself "why am I into this?" Example: I can tell when I'm In a Mood when I find myself looking for fic threads or fan fics that are super fluffy/soft. I can tell that im in a stronger headspace when I'm able to consume heavier or more depressing content without it triggering me.

However, it's so weird to me that the people on that sub will make fun of people who don't like dark content (they will downvote you for even saying that you don't like certain tags/tropes), yet they're so overly sensitive when people don't like what they're into. They'll use terms like "persecution" and "oppression" for shit like people saying "I'm not into incest ships" or whatever.

One proshipper went on a whole rant because a minor who created a zine for a certain fandom, didn't want contributors who drew dark content or NSFW stuff. The proshipper kept talking about being oppressed and persecuted and I'm just there like, it's a fan zine, most likely for a fandom you're not even part of. Why do you care? And they're a minor; why do you, a full grown adult, care about what they're doing?

Anyway, just needed to rant. I love Ao3, and the subreddit is interesting, but it gets so overwhelming and quite frankly creepy sometimes the way people act as if their voting rights are being taken away just because someone doesn't want to read their underage omegaverse incest fics. Find some real problems, ffs

First - ok, do the Ljosalfar also exist in the world of this story? (then again, are the Ljosalfar even a distinction from the Dokkalfar that existed pre-Christian influence? I dunno, the mythology is fairly incomplete as it stands, and none of this has anythign to do with the story so why am I spending so much time on this anyway?) Second, why does getting hit on the head give Jo the Second Sight? Or did she always have the capacity for it, and the hit just catalyzed it? REGARDLESS, as none of that has anythign to do with the actual control part of the story, moving on. It's a good story. Very fantasy, but I grew up LOVING mythology, so even though I'm a little rusty on it, seeing something drawing on myth is lovely. And the idea of control that most folk dont' notice, and that even though she *does* notice it Jo can't resist? It works within the context of the story. The actual control we see is fairly pedestrian by EMCSA standards, but the worldbuilding done around it means I like this story much more than I might have otherwise. 8/10 spirals

Huh, from the title I was expecting this to be a Girls(tm) story, not a superhero story, and not such a tragic one at that. Oh, it has its moments of heat, during the transformation that takes place, but the end of it is just tragic. To be forced to continue loving someone who's dead, unable to truly mourn, No matter how much heat is in the rest of the story, I can't find it hot on the whole with that layer of tragedy underlying it. it's a GOOD story, just ... another one that isn't really erotica to me. 5/10 spirals

... There is no IRB in the country that would approve this story, so this isn't just self-funded, but there can't be any meaningful oversight either. Also, her work needs more footnotes. Also, she clearly needs to review what we've learned from the Stanford Prison experiment; any time a researcher directly involves themselves in the experiment, as she did, it skews objectivity, and makes it less generalizable. We also ought to be presented with the method of recruitment; the nature of the recruitment can bias who is likely to apply. Further, any experiment of this sort should have included a boiler plate "you may revoke consent at any time" clause. Which clearly X was not provided. Putting the design/framing of the story aside, this is ... well, clearly it bothers me a little bit, given my science background, in the ways that it betrays the doctor's intentions with it. Which makes sense in context, but I get distracted considering how I'd improve the experiment. And it's a solid experiment for the goal of "how can I make girls want to have sex with me," rather than "how can I test response to authority?" - they *are* two different questions. The external view of the shifting mindset is less to my taste, and X's clear distress makes this less hot than it would be otherwise. 5/10 spirals

This one is a lot more magic than my preference, though the sudden internal changes are fascinating and add some heat for me. And Merrion acknowledging that he's being unethical actually makes me feel better, in some ways? I at least have more hope that he'll treat Paula right after this. And she clearly is getting something out of it, too, which helps. But it does come down to just being too magic for my tastes - though if you like magical artifacts driving the control, give this one a look. 6/10 spirals

I never quite understand how pleasure is that overwhelming for folk. It can be fun to play with, sure, but to make me completely let go around someone who puts me on edge? I don't get it and never will. Especially given the context of their interaction here. Maybe I'm just too ace to ever truly grok it, though. But the way she uses the sensation to take control, to build an effective overload induction as she does? It's well done and well written, if a bit cold for my personal preferences.  7/10 spirals

Another induction, and one that would be *really* good for folk who have trouble staying completely focused on a hypnotist, if it were a recording rather than a text induction, as it was clearly written to be read aloud.  The way it uses the idea of focusing on something other than the hypnotist, and letting their voice (and I want to say her, because I'm hearing Lady Ru'etha's voice reading it in my head, for all it's Jukebox's words) just slip past the conscious awareness. It does, of course, include arousal and orgasm suggestions, so be aware of that if you're susceptible to text inductions, but I also recommend hypnotists read this one and take some inspiration for if playing with folk who are easily distracted when trancing. 9/10 spirals

so i kind of want to go on a bit of a tangent about the whole billy is racist situation. Dacre has stated before that he did not play or make billy out as a racist but no one ever takes this into consideration? they never listen to him, the guy that literally acted as the character. If they think the scenes with him are racist that doesn’t automatically make them racist because it’s just what they think but it’s not what dacre intended them to be? they take their thoughts of the scene in the car with him and max and completely see it as whats presented on screen. they won’t even try to look into it deeper, billy’s words aren’t what they actually think they are. his way of thinking and talking makes a helluva lot more sense after we get to see the scene with him and his father and his flashbacks. Billy not trusting any guy he comes across makes a shit ton of sense as to why he’s so aggressive towards everyone. Knowing what Neil did to his mother and seeing Max coming out of school in s2 constantly annoyed or angry and it all being a result of interacting with lucas gives us then an indication as to why billy gave Max that car talk. He could’ve very well meant Black people if that’s what people want to think but that doesn’t mean that’s actually what it meant. It could have meant how he sees every man as neil and thus think every one of them will do the same thing neil did to his mother. The talk very-well could have meant for her to stay away from people like Neil. People who abuse their partners and go on to abuse their own children. He was scared for Max thinking if she got involved with Lucas she could end up the same as his mother or Susan. The byers situation yeah billy was definitely wrong by going for lucas, he never should have laid a hand on him. But people always seem to think he singled out lucas because of the colour of his skin. Billy has not seen Max interact with anyone else in the party, ever. There’s obviously something going on between Max and Lucas so why the hell would he bother going for the others when he knows Lucas is the one who’d been ‘bothering’ Max. People are free to think whatever they want to but it pisses me off when they don’t even bother delving deeper instead of just reading and watching what’s on screen and barely even bothering to listen to what’s actually being said. Billy antis point blank refuse to do any sort of reading or listening that might potentially shatter this image they have of him and i’m quite honestly tired of it. There are many points to counter theirs yet they cover their ears whenever we say them. It was never about the actual characters, it was never about “calling out billy” or defending lucas it was always about having a group of people in the fandom to bully and ridicule 24/7. It was always about having a punching bag in the fandom. They think it’s so funny sending death threats to innocent kids or just the people on the internet over liking a fictional character just because they don’t like them. It’s extremely worrying how they think it’s okay and acceptable to act the way they do simply because someone doesn’t tailor to their fucking expectations. It’s disgusting. + side rant: After s4 was released, they took a fraction of the hate us Billy fans get and redirected it towards Chrissy/Edissy/Grace and it’s fucking awful. No one should be told to off themselves over liking different characters regardless of how “bad” the character is. They think they’re fighting some weird hero-complex fuelling war whenever they talk about us it’s borderline deranged. Sorry this is so long btw

Because the mask she is wearing is flat out not preventing her from catching the virus. It is a either a security blanket or a virtue signal and neither are good.

Posting things online opens up the door to criticism. We’re not saying she should die or some crazy shit, we’re saying it her effort is quite literally pointless, ineffective, and concerning. Probably ‘Is there hope in a world so bleak?’ (MoFy) because it’s a zombie story, post apocalyptic, so who they lost are never coming back and they just have to deal with life as it is now. And I may have written and deleted a tidbit where Cam and Mitch die together at the end and hated it. Theatre (also MoFy) ended not with Jay fully accepting Mitch is gay, but ‘it was something’ like a baby step.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Honestly, most of my fics end up having a happy ending. I’m a sucker for that. My most bittersweet one feels like Camaraderie. Maybe We Are the Penguins since it ended with Kowalski and Rico dating, Marlene and Skipper dating, and all but Private graduated high school, and leaving the door open to a sequel I’m writing. Maybe ‘If we stay’ only for fixing the ending to Modern Family.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Once someone on FFNet said a thing I wrote was f-ing stupid. I think it was my Pokemon story that tried to keep up with the ever increasing generations and probably because I put Red in without knowing his significance to the community. I mean, I’d rather be given ideas on how to improve. While it wasn't hate, I've received comments that were just odd to me recently on FF and I'm like...ok the story's ancient, let it rest please or stop reading if things bother you so much which were non issues. 9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Once. Modern Family Camchell, it was sorta surfacy but got the message across. I think I write heavy implications better.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I’m a sucker for some crossovers when I believe they can happen. My craziest one posted is part of Multiverse Adventures was Gravity Falls meets Stranger Things.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I hope not, but what are they going to do? Copyright something that I don’t even own, good luck with that.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, I had some story translated into Korean. I wish I saved a pic or the site name because FFNet got rid of links and idk what site it was on. Now I’m thinking question 11 can be entirely possible. But again, I don't own the fandom of which it came.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope. I’m not opposed to it.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Is it weird to put an OC in this? If not, King Julien (Penguins of Madagascar) and my OC Josie. If no OC, then Skipper and Marlene and Kowalski and Rico from the same series followed closely by Camchell (Cameron and Mitchell, Modern Family)

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I have an original work I call Quintuplets about fostered siblings in the tentative care of their aunt and uncle. I do have a story in The Last of Us universe focused on four siblings fleeing a fallen quarantine zone, I have more hope of finishing that one though.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue, scenes and characterization (I was once told I described the building the human versions of the Penguins from PoM too much and didn’t focus on what was happening)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

If there’s too many characters, I kinda forget some sometimes. Probably scene transitions and I’ve found endings to longer stories a bit of a challenge and I end up skipping through years to finish it.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

If it fits. To use Modern Family as an example, Gloria frequently speaks in Spanish, so why not if it fits in the story?

19. First fandom you wrote for?

The Penguins of Madagascar. Begin flashback sequence: There I was, bored. Super bored. Nothing to do because state testing. Then. I thought of the episode of PoM where Private went on a sugar high and thought he saw a sky orca (Skorca). I proceeded to write a story where it happened again, but tragedy struck like an eighteen wheeler on a leader penguin…A scrapped part of that story led to what I feel is one of the best stories I’ve ever written (Camaraderie) until Ao3

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Almost answered that too soon. On FFNet, my favorite is Camaraderie (could you tell?), a Penguins of Madagascar fic. a tale of love, loss, betrayal, and friendship (why didn’t I ever change the summary? I strongly believe my falling out of love for fandoms and writing is due to how sad I was that it was over. It led into years long hiatus.

On Ao3, probably We were kids on the street (Modern Family). (This is my ‘final’ decision after originally typing this and four other fics)

you should look within no one is refuting that lyrics can be interpreted in certain ways, or that people can have certain thoughts. But when it's constant, as if sexualising someone is a personality trait, it's weird.

It's funny and stupid how so many are going crazy about paco tagging the hotel and giving away pedro's location when not but 3 or 4 days ago when pedro and Fernando were at the museum, Fernando tagged the museum and gave away the location but nobody was mad about that... Paco is ruffling alot of yalls feathers right now its obvious its not cuz he tagged the hotel🤣🤣. // Um...hello, anon? Tagging a hotel is NOT the same as tagging a museum. Crazed fans can stake out a hotel because they know there's a chance their fave will be staying or hanging around there and they can catch that celeb. But a museum isn't a hotel. Pedro would visit there maybe one time and that's it. He wouldn't be there for a long time. It's just damn common sense, anon. 🤭 And why would anyone be "ruffled" by Paco anyway?? Are you thinking that fans would be jealous of Paco or something? They're not even dating, so why would anyone be weirded out by Paco? (FFS anon, don't even imply that the guys are something more because it sounds like you're trying to go there. 🙄)

There is a back story about paco and what I gather is being implied is not something more between them but rather the rumor of the rumor about then was mainly gossip spread around. Adding to what that anon stated both men tagged locations of where they were with pedro so you cannot fault one while not faulting the other for doing the same thing. I have also looked to paco story and he did not untag the location so I do not believe that pedro was bothered by this or even asked him to untag the hotel anon, and please be reminded that in the last week almost everywhere we have seen pedro his current location has been tagged.
