Vow of Poverty Challenge

This is Kestrel. (Probably. I may change my mind on the name later.) Isn't she cute? But Kestrel doesn't want to be cute. Kestrel wants to be gorgeous and fancy. Kestrel, in fact, wants to look like this:

Unfortunately, Kestrel has no money, and for the purposes of the challenge I'm participating in with her she is also not allowed to have any money. Everything she needs to turn her into her best self has to come from trade, random loot drops (chests, coliseum, Pinkerton), or giveaways. And that's why I'm making this post! If you have any of the items on her wishlist (link in reblog, which also includes a link to the original challenge thread if you want more information) and you're interested in trading, or if you know of anyone who's doing a giveaway or free raffle for them, PM me on the site (Tabbyclaw, #112126) to see what we can arrange.

What I can offer:

Items! Food, familiars, apparel, and other sundries, including some retired items. I've been on this site a long time; ask and there's a decent chance it's buried in my hoard somewhere. (Note: I have no UMAs, although I do have a decent assortment of old festival skins.)

Coli services! I have a full team that can grind in any venue, and also trainers who can level up your fodder or your permanent residents. (Stats and stones not included.)

Nest and cauldron rentals! (Shadow lair and fully leveled cauldron; you will have to provide any treasure the recipe asks for.)

Art! (It will not be good art, but it will be sincere and to the best of my ability.)

This time: how many dice sets would our main group of trolls have?

Aradia: a few cool ones, some made out of real bone, some with cool inclusions, she'd have 5-6 that she uses, but would have either a massive stockpile she doesn't use, or a big wishlist.

Tavros: I think he has one or two sets that fit a theme. Maybe an extra d20 specifically for death saves or really important roles.

Sollux: two. He has two dice sets. Maybe one red set and one blue set.

Karkat: he either has an absurd amount that he uses for very specific purposes and a dice jail for when they betray him (in which case he will avoid the checks/roles that particular die is for at all costs) or he has none and just uses an online roller when he has to. There is no in between.

Nepeta: dice hoarder, but only really uses one set. She just wants the extra dice bc they're shiny and cool and make nice noises. She will definitely bat them around like they're cat toys.

Kanaya: has a few sets for herself that fit a theme, and a plain black set she lets people borrow if they forgot their dice.

Terezi: dice hoarder. Hoard like dragon. Actually uses most of them. Definitely has a dice jail, but prefers the dice guillotine/other methods of dice mock execution (doesn't do anything but is fun). Is waiting for the day her collection will rain fury upon a poor player who gets godstrike Yahtzee'd.

Vriska: just has her 8 d8s. Insists they're all she needs. Someone else usually rolls for her for most checks and saves.

Equius: has one metal set given to him by Nepeta so he could play without crushing the dice. Doesn't play often, but treasures them deeply.

Gamzee: technically one. He has one 'set' but it's made of a bunch of random dice he says he found. He has a d1,d2,d3,d100, and various other strange dice. Nobody knows where he gets them. None of the dice match, but it just adds to the set's charm.

Eridan: he claims to have one set of violet dice and that's it, but he also has a set of rainbow dice from feferi when they were together that he can't bring himself to get rid of, and a set of wizard themed dice (like the kind from polyhero, at least I think that's what the brand is called) that he will never admit he owns.

Feferi: another dice hoarder. She probably owns some made from gemstones, and definitely has a full themed set for each character. She probably has given most of her friends a dice set at some point.

As I was getting ready to make a post like "hey guys, anyone want to do some swapping for wishlist items? I have a ton of spare stuff" the top of my dash has informed me that Wish Rising is a thing and I'm new and ignorant af lmao

Not on the forums much (yet?) so idk if participating on FR is the preferred way to go about it for the moderately anti-social but for the fellow tumblr dragon's reference, my wishlist is here and also linked in the sidebar of this blog at all times! I'd prefer to trade for most of these items because they're quite expensive on the AH and I am a FTP pleb, but treasure/gems are things I can throw in for fairness on top of item swapping. This list is updated as needed and any time is a good time for a trade!

The hoard has a metric crapload of extra materials that I haven't had the patience/time to list on the AH yet and I've opened every Strange Chest I've gotten so there are many, many NotN 2022 items I have several of for folks seeking specific ones (sorry if you wanted chests, but I promised myself not to sell any for my first NotN, I have EGGS tho). Quite literally send me an ask or a PM if you're looking for something specific, I might just have it stashed away! Older, coveted, or discontinued items aren't a thing I have much/any of as I'm still a baby in FR time but you never know.

- Jey’s Fatal Flaw - Possessiveness. Her over-protectiveness (which is often a problem just itself) can bleed over into possessiveness. She hates it about herself, but it still happens. Her literal fatal flaw is severe selflessness and lack of self-preservation, because that literally does kill her in the end. But that felt too cheap to write as the main thing adsfghdjk

- Whitney’s Fatal Flaw - Jealousy. She has trouble dealing with spouts of envy in even the smallest, every day things. And even often bigger things too.

- Alco’s Fatal Flaw - Callousness. In her Barian Life, she trained up her cold unfeeling personality, it’s been hard to try and break.

- Sheira’s Fatal Flaw - Cowardice. She doesn’t know if she could have the strength to put her own life last in a dire situation, and it scares her.

- Harper’s Fatal Flaw - Ignorance. Most of it is genuine, but she has caught herself purposefully turning her brain off, even when she does know better.

  Wishlists to do with their fatal flaws? Kind of! Mostly canon-story related where these aforementioned elements shine through. I would be open to plotting stuff for it, though! In the future ^^

   Every good character has moments where they actually and genuinely frick up, bad. And most of the time, they don’t want to admit to it at first, or don’t see it that way in the beginning.

 [ (Which I think a lot of OC creators tend to avoid, unfortunately.    I know it’s not fun for a mun’s oc bby to be wholeheartedly in the wrong and have them be told off about it, but at some point that can’t be the excuse anymore.     I actually think it way worse to have the characters always be in the right, or always just the victim. Let’s Talk About Pokemon - The Dragon Type

You would think a type with the prestige-type status it once had would be one of the rarer in the game. And indeed there was a time where Dragons once made a very tiny percentage of the Pokedex. Heck, the type was even rarer if you discount Legendaries and Pseudo-legendaries, with there once only being four of those despite being on the fourth generation. Then Gen 5 happened, which had an aim to make sure all 17 types were more or less equal in population. This meant bumping up Dragon's numbers quite substantially. The more the series went on, the more Dragon has more or less become a much more regular type. One with still special treatment enough to usually be reserved for Legendaries and Legendaries of the Psuedo variety, but a much more regular type nonetheless. By now, its population is about the same as Electric or Fire.

Dragon's aesthetic has also changed tremendously over the years. Back in the day, and all the way up to Gen 5, the only real outlier weirdos in the dragon club were Vibrava and Altaria. These days?

NOW look at em! Something weird happened. Like overnight, the Dragon type had very suddenly became a lot more varied and considerably more weird and willing to stretch the definition of what counts as a “dragon.” And y'know what? I'm all for it.

Of course, back in my late kid and throughout my teenage years, Dragon was one of my favorite types because what's cooler than a really big lizard??? (Might I add, back in my “Yu-Gi-Oh replaced Pokemon for a couple years” phase, I of course thought Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon was the single coolest monster design in the entire damn world.) These days I'm somewhat more indifferent to them. If I loved it before, I probably still at least like it now, but my enthusiasm for the type has petered out a bit.

Almost like on cue, as I got a bit older and god a bit more tasteful as I started taking character design more seriously as a form of art I was interested in, the Dragon type started getting more interesting as well. Suddenly we have a gross seahorse that's a dragon, a gross snail that's a dragon! Even a BAT and a WEIRD...TAPEWORM THING... that was a dragon! Maybe with the inception of the Fairy type introduced to nerf Dragon's dominance over most of the other types, they also felt the need to make Dragon just. Another one of the gang. But it'd get boring to have this type of almost exclusively lizards suddenly start inhabiting large chunks of the Pokedex, right? What if we made other animals with SLIGHTLY more dragon-esque features to diverse the type?!

Well, I'm digging it. Maybe not enough to have Dragon back on as one of my favorite types, but I'm certainly more enthusiastic to see new Dragons pop up again. Especially if they're willing to call a tall three-headed tree of all things a DRAGON, too.

Besides, back in the day, dragons looked quite a bit weirder as well. More like lizardy rats that... had wings, I suppose. The concept of a dragon being an exceptionally large winged lizard (often with elemental powers for good measure) was a more recent cultural development, relatively speaking. Either way, if Dragons continue to be neat, I'll continue to call em neat. Sounds like a fine deal to me!

Top 10 Favorite Dragon Types:

Of course early Pokemon didn't have much to like, but at the same time, a loooot of them were very traditional dragon designs.

Bottom 10 Least Favorites:

Eh. The only ones I dislike to any capacity is Dragonite and the two (three) Megas. The rest are kinda just. Cool, if rather generic Dragons. It's often the mid-evos of the Pseudos that I forget about.

...I only got so many to work with here, alright? Actually let's have that as an extremely broad entry on my Wishlist. More “Pretty” dragons, please. That's a pretty underutilized aesthetic in Pokemon, so far.

Weirdest/Most Unique:

Most Inventive Use of the Type:

...Is pretty much the same as the “Weirdest/Most Unique” section. I'm sure as later generations come out and I'll inevitably come back to these to update them, I'll have more Dragon types to mess around with.

DRAGON TYPE WISHLIST:

NOTE: These Type Wishlists were written out before any news on new Pokemon from Sword and Shield. The Pokemon revealed over time will not affect these wishlists. Just to present them unaltered despite spoilers and in the interest of getting the wishlist out there, and to see which items on said wishlists get fulfilled by Sword and Shield!

A Hoarding Dragon:

Having hoards of treasure is like, one of THE defining personality quirks of at least European dragons, so I'm just surprised we've not gotten something along those lines just yet. Gems, gold, metals. Hell, I'd even take one that hoards in-Universe Pokemon merch. Or a dragon that, in one way or another, IS its own hoard.

A Star-Dragon:

That's pretty specific, I know. Especially since we've got actually a couple of Dragons that fell from some form of outer space in both Kyurem and Guzzlord. But neither of those are really space-THEMED. I'm talking a stellar-themed Dragon. This goes with my wishes for more “pretty” dragons from earlier, minding how much beautiful imagery there's to draw from in space.

A Cockatrice:

These chicken-lizard hybrids are ripe for the Unorthodox Dragon crowd. And even with myths about them going on about their gaze either being able to kill or turn whatever they look at to stone. You could PROBABLY form a neat unique move around that.

A Qilin:

I just can't quit with the deer-creatures, man. I don’t know if I’ve brought it up here before, but I’m currently in an extremely early stage of making my own catch-all-the-monsters-type game of my own. And boy howdy it is AWFUL having five or so good ideas for deer monsters but within reasonability, I gotta narrow it down to just one. BAH.

Anyway, qirin are the specific term for the Chinese dragons you see with the more antler-like horns. Some interpretations of which go one step further until they are outright just deer-shaped dragons. Which I would be entirely down with seeing in Pokemon.

An Uroboros:

Man, I actually had quite a few more requests for Dragon type than I thought I would've.

My last entry on this wishlist is an Uroboros. A cross-culture icon you may recognize as the serpentine creature that eats itself, representing different things depending on which culture you ask. In some, it's about the cycle of life and death. To others, the passage of time. Whether you take these cultural relevancies to heart or not, there's still plenty of cool things you could do with an Uroboros and its weirdly wheel-shaped body.

That and it’s a symbol relevant to alchemy too. And for whatever reason, Pokemon is laying it on thick with the alchemy symbolism lately. So uroboros is perfect!

Blog Update

Hey sugar plums. This is a small blog/activity update and it’s not gonna cover TOO many new things. Most of you already knew this is my plan, or was my plan---, for when things calm down enough IRL for me to actually DO THE THINGS. And the original plan was for that to happen like 2 months ago but you know work happens and life outside of that is a funny thing and here were are. So update, works been kicking my ass the last month or two with my coworker having a thing about jumping half a world away every other week or so and almost never keeping to the schedule she gives our bosses which for me means working 4-5 24-hour shifts in a row every other week.

 On top of that in preparation for the much-needed vacation I’m taking starting the 1st they’ve had me training a new girl. Which is FINE, we need someone to cover me and she’s lovely! But it means more socializing then I’m used to on a regular basis and a new person at that so that’s been...taxing. All that being said it’s basically been eating up my time and energy to be here. So once more with feeling THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS STAYED AND BEEN PATIENT WITH ME IT MEANS MORE THEN WORDS CAN SAY ;w;.

The bright side is with that break coming up, and work calming down after since my boss plans to talk to my coworker about her own vacation habits, I WILL HAVE TIME TO DO THE THINGS I’VE BEEN MEANING TO DO. Here’s the list that I’m gonna be attempting in the next month and all the things you should keep an eye out for if you’re interested. Again thank you all for your patience, I love each and every one of you and hope to be back to writing regularly soon!

Follower/Following Purge - Not mad at anybody nor have I lost interest in anyone. It’s just gotten to a point where my dash is a little too cluttered for my taste with people I don’t talk to regularly and people who haven't reached out at all since following me. So for my own comfort, I’ll be doing a clean up on that front via soft block. If you happen to get softblocked know if you’re still very much interested in interaction and hadn’t reached out before cause you weren’t sure how to or felt you might be bothering me--- MESSAGE ME. Draft Purge - I hate it. You don’t understand!!! I HATE DROPPING DRAFTS I H A T E IT :C. BECAUSE---, I love every single interaction I have with all of you. Every ask, every meme is a treasure and I am the dragon that hoards them and... It’s a problem guys. Like the messy dash having the number of drafts I do does something terrible to me. It’s not even that big a number and yet it’s like I’ve got paralysis when it comes to seeing the actual number and there’s only so much I can do to fix it. No major threads or plotted things will be dropped. But I am gonna going through them all soon and sorting out what I have muse for rn and what I do not and making my choice based on that.

Biography - I know I’ve been talking about it since the dawn of time but I really do want to get something up for Kenzi especially since my take on her IS somewhat canon divergent and her main verse takes place after canon’s conclusion. Even if it starts out as just basic STATS I will be putting something up for Kenzi in the near future.

Verses - Same as above I already have a few verses for Kenzi and I do plan on putting up some basic info for those very soon.

Major Headcanons - I have a handful of major headcanons for Kenzi that I’ve needed to get out for a while now that are SIGNIFICANT to her skillset/power/how she interactions with STRONG or supernatural creatures as well as my portrayals heritage and where she comes from. These will be worked on soon.

Mains/Exclusives Call - I will be putting out one of these and it will have more info on what those mean to ME in the post itself. But basically, I want to know how many of my followers here are comfortable with being my go to if not my exclusive portrayal of a muse for rp purposes. Because it's in my rules guys. I’m not a huge fan of following a ton of portrayals of a canon muse once I find one I really enjoy and that’s bonus if the mun who writes them is someone I’m comfortable with and this kind of call is one of the few ways I know to invite someone to explore that with me without ramping up my anxiety or feeling like I’m bothering people ; v ;.

Permanent Starter Call - Again this is just gonna be me putting it out there and invitation to let me know who of you and how many people are comfortable being my go to when it comes to starters and wishlist threads, ideas, and me sending headcanon prompts and memes at random.

Shipping Call - Same as the above calls. This will be me testing the waters on who all is open to shipping with Kenzi. This will not be JUST a romantic shipping call. This will be a general call and whoever likes it can expect I’ll hit them up later to discuss what sort of ship they were talking about and see where things go from there.

Splendors from throughout the realm are nestled among the thick, gnarled branches of this primordial baobab tree. Exotic foods, questionable potions, and treasured decorations are all gathered here under the watchful eyes of an attentive mandrill. He patiently bats away flies from overtaking any meats and honeycombs while bargaining with passing lions who wish to take from his lavish hoard.

The Baobab Tree is my branch! I’m currently selling a ton of cool stuff such as Bloodbourne applicators, exclusive Black Friday decor, and lots of Buffalo Scrotums!

Day after day I wonder more about why y'all are so toxic towards people with expensive wishlists. Maybe they’re expensive because those people have already obtained the cheap things, or could easily be obtained so it’s not worth putting on the wishlist. I don’t have anything cheap on my wishlist because I already bought everything I wanted, and I’m working towards buying the expensive stuff myself.

Take familiars for example. For a collector, they only need one of each, and eventually it will come down to just the sprites and then the ks/downtime familiars. Why would they ask for junk fams they already have, especially when they can get them from the coli for free?

Materials/trinkets are useless unless you hoard them or it’s a high demand Baldwin/Swipp item. You could throw them in the cauldron, but again, you can get plenty of those from the coli.

Nobody wants treasure mp apparel unless it’s new or popular because it can easily be bought directly from the mp or the ah.

So what does that leave? Gem mp, genes, sprites/ks/downtime fams, eggs, etc. aka expensive things. Of course these are what players always want. This is a game about making and dressing pretty dragons. These items are what make the game enjoyable. Familiars and eggs to satisfy collectors, genes and good apparel to satisfy everyone who wants pretty dragons(especially g1 collectors).

Maybe these people aren’t being greedy. Maybe it’s all they have left to obtain because they’ve achieved all of their smaller goals, or because their playstyle demands expensive items.

Now people who put expensive items on their wishlist in hopes of getting free stuff to resell for profit, that’s a different story.

Hey, any Light folks going to be around in the morning/midafternoon EST this Thursday, the 16th? It’s my birthday and hopefully I’ll have some treasure to throw at you for genes and such once I open all the chests I’ve hoarded. I just don’t know what yet because my wishlist is extensive and will need to be pruned depending on how much money I actually get, haha. I’ll tip or whatever is needed in this situation, I’m not sure if I’ve ever done this before so I’m kind of lost.
