Fun Fact
BuzzFeed published a report claiming that Tumblr was utilized as a distribution channel for Russian agents to influence American voting habits during the 2016 presidential election in Feb 2018.
i enjoy how that DON (ドン) came out...was in a hurry so i didn't look up the stroke order. it looks like the second stroke in ン is an upstroke to the right. 策/saku/migihane? i know very little about JP or calligraphy.
the second stroke in my ン was definitely an upstroke, although it goes from thin to thick rather than the "flicking/lifting up" motion i think this character is supposed to have. i can tell it's an upstroke because if it were a downstroke, the "lifting" would have left more broken lines (compare it to the downstroke on the left) and wouldn't have that noticeable curve inward/away. that definitely came from my right-handed ass pressing down.
i intended it to be straight like the blocky versions in one piece, but my youthful vigor made it thicken & curve in the opposite direction it's supposed to...
still like it, though. i find it really hard to achieve spontaneity/energy with SFX in comics and i'm not sure why. after glancing over JW#1 for sounds, i noticed i tended to replace or erase the "C" when just a "K" would do.
maybe because it communicates the sound better? or because curves have less energy? to my memory mignola does this a lot so i might've just picked it up from him. or it could be a standard practice that i have no idea how to google.
HELP THIS IS SO SAD THE HAPPY CAFETERIA HAS RUN OUT OF FOOD AND HASNT BEEN REFILLED THE POOR WUNKS ARE EATING THE CRUMBS LEFT ON THE FLOOR THIS IS GENUINELY ONE OF THE SADDEST THINGS IVE EVER SEEN
r/wunkus is a subreddit where you post silly animals that people call wunki (plural for wunkus, wunk for short)
I joined this subreddit, started posting some of these silly animals with the tag wunkus, and usually putting "[adjective] wunk" in the post, to fit what r/wunkus members typically do
Technically "wunkus" had no meaning before some random guy decided to post cat images in a subreddit with a nonsense word
But nonetheless wunkus, wunki, and wunk is used by many people. Myself included
Though technically it's not just cats but any animal that is silly. Usually a small animal doing a silly thing, but sometimes it's a large animal, and/or just looking silly while doing nothing in particular
I come across the German word "eigen" sometimes in English-language settings.
I was wondering: is there a word or combination of words in English that can replace "eigen"?
Examples:
Eigen-variety [cybernetics] - A car driver who has not learned to drive on ice does not have the requisite eigen-variety to handle icy conditions. Requisite variety is the ability to manage complex external situations.
Eigenschaften, from a paper about properties and characteristics of technical systems.
I honestly have no idea. I wonder if anyone reading does. We can always make one up (but I do mean "we" and not "me", because I don't know what this means. This example doesn't help). Just looked it up and it looks like it means "own", so basically the equivalent of auto-, yeah? Self- might also serve in certain instances. We could also just say the wunkness of a thing (as in, "It hasn't got the wunkness to pull this off"). Someone who's got the wunkness can be described as wunky, or a wunk (as in, "What a wunk! They can totally pull this off!").
