I had an idea that like, when the heretics drink the dragon blood, all the memories and emotions of Ratatoskr and Nidhogg overwhelm them and it's only those who can cope with such deep sorrow that can harness the ability to transfer to and from a dragon state

Rarepair Week - Day 5 - Promise

<Read Yesterday's Prompt>

Iris had calmed down. Her eyes couldn’t make any more tears. Her cheeks are red from all the crying. Only a few hours had passed since Stephanivien gave his heated words. All she wanted was to be alone but her room was getting stuffy. Ultimately, she decided that she was going to look at the harbor to clear her mind.

Too much has happened the last few weeks between the final days, worrying that this might be the end for her. Now she has to worry about Stephanivien not being there even if she does come back. She sighs while looking at the calm ocean. Her thoughts ran wild.

What could I have said to him? 

I’m pretty certain that he hates my guts now. 

But I guess it’s for the best.

After all, I might not come back.

Let him be free to find someone else to make him happy.

At least I can give him that mercy.

Let him grieve and move on from me.

Like I did with Hauchefant.

Her face grew increasingly sorrowful. If these were truly her final days, shouldn’t she try to spend it with all things she wants to do and enjoy. She sighs to herself. The cold Sharlayan air was freezing. However, she was completely numb to it all.

Before she realized it, something warm enveloped her. “I’m sorry” was whispered in her ear from a familiar voice, snapping her out of her thoughts. A hand rubbed up her left arm. The warmth was comforting, like a warm knitted blanket. “I-I shouldn’t have said what I....” He sighed. His grip tightening around her. “Please, I don’t…I mean…I can’t” 

“Steph” she grabbed his forearms and gave them a squeeze. She exhaled. Turning around to face him. "I should be the one to apologize to you. How much have you had to endure with me doing my heroics. I'm sorry." 

He hugged her as tightly as he could, resting his chin on top of her head. "You're okay, Just promise me you'll come back alive. Okay."

Although she thought it was impossible, a tear rolled down her cheek. Though this one was a tear of relief. Returning his hug with her own, resting her head on his chest. "I'll do you one better. After all this is over, I promise that I'll stop these heroics and live for myself and for you."

Rarepair Week Day 4 - Conflict

Relationships weren't always going to be perfect, and Leofard and Kiyo's was no exception. Oftentimes conflicts arose between them from the man taking unnecessary risks and refusing to take care of himself properly. And Kiyo fussing over him constantly due to his devil-may-care attitude and being a bit too stifling at times

But even still...

True love would always find a way to resolve these things

Rare Pair Week 2023: Promise

The smile she wore when she first saw him appear once more near the aetheryte fades when he can’t return it like he attempted. Her eyes move to see his beloved animal companion, Oisín, take in the new surroundings, “I thought you had found a way to save-?”

He nods, “We have a plan. One that’s going to work.”

“Then....”

“You know the ol’ boy, doesn’t like being left alone. Figure he can help make some of the kids happy. The ones in Ala Mhigo loved him.”

“Demos,” she says softly, reaching out making him step back.

“I have faith in the plan. Its going to work. I know it will....it has to.” He sniffs, clearing his throat, “This is more of a just in case. Don’t know what exactly what we’ll be going up against, but if I don’t make it then he’s gonna need someone to care for him.” Demos strokes the animal’s fur, “Can’t think of anyone better to do that other than you. Trust you the most, Yugiri.” Yugiri looks between the two, her hand reaching out to pet Oisín’s nose when he lightly bumps her shoulder. “And he likes you the most. Promise you’ll take care of him for me?”

She gives a small smile, “Of course. But you must promise me that you will do all that you can to return home.”

He smiles, “You know I will.” She nods before throwing her arms around him, embracing him tightly, Demos holding her close, kissing her forehead. “Promise you, we’ll make it through this.” 

Yugiri looks up, pulling him down to better meet her lips as she makes herself as tall as possible. Demos lifts her ever so slightly, pouring all that he is into their kiss, letting himself believe for that moment that all was right in the world. That this wasn’t a potential final goodbye, but one of a long trip. That what they had never even got the chance to start. It feels all to soon when she pulls away whispering for the first time, “I love you, Demos.”

“And I love you, Yugiri,” he responds against her lips, before letting her go. He stuffs his hands in his pockets, knowing his time is up and he must return to travel to the far edges of the sky. Stepping back closer to the aetheryte, watching as she leads the caribou away, No regrets left now. Now just have to hope that I get another chance to say it.
