#yes. emesis blue as in that tf2 movie...
Text
Umm hi. Is it normal that I've found inspiration from analog horror ARGs and Emesis blue as a way to create some plot points and headcanons for my AU?

I will give Emesis Blue this:
Visually it can be stunning and some scenes get sadder or more meaningful, when you know the TF2 lore.
There is a flashback scene when Detective Jacques Morneau (that's basically Spy) is ordered by Jules Archibald to shoot "traitors". One of said "traitors" is Scout and Jacques doesn't shoot him right away... but only because he wants to negotiate his promotion with Jules. It is well-known fact that canonically Spy is Scout's father and there are even moments when he can even be quite fatherly (vide: the scene of Scout's death in The Naked and the Dead or all the things he does in The Expiration Date). With that in mind, this scene can be that much terrible.
And the Scout Jeremy we meet in Emesis Blue is more of a victim than the arrogant and loud kid we know from the canon. This guy goes through hell, after hell, after hell and then dies off-screen and we only hear his screams. He can't even run or use baseball bat to defend himself. He's screwed and we're sorry for him.
Soldier in original game is well-established as delusional about his involvement in WW2, but here he actually suffers from halucinations and is later revealed to be a clone. He also basically goes through Hell and back.
Engie... oh, Engie, my man... canonically Dell Conagher is probably the most sane and friendly of the mercs (oh, yes, he gets threatening in the last few seconds of Meet the Engineer, but come on, you would trust this man with your life). Here Conagher Clan basically gets a Nightmare Fuel update. Not only the Dell we know is dead (and he went through sanity slippage in the original short Emesis Blue is supposedly a sequel of), but also his brothers are bloodthirty psychopaths.
Medic in this version isn't a mad scientist experimenting on his team. In fact, for the most of the movie, he's a heroic figure trying to get to the bottom of the things and (at least at first) save Scout. But when he releases the kid from the coffin the Conagher brothers caged him in, Scout reacts with fear and calls him a sick man. You get the sense that the Medic Jeremy encountered in Conagher Slaughterhouse looks like this BLU Medic but he's the more traditionally mad science'y RED one.
But generally Medic in this movie goes through horrible ordeal. The more he sees and the more he learns about what's going on, the madder he gets and the more he starts to resemble the Medic we know from the games... at least in terms of creepiness.
And this is only scratching the surface.

have you ever seen TF2 fan movie Emesis Blue? It's quite amazing, imo!
Yes I have!! It’s still INCREDIBLE to me that people have created a feature-length film in SFM. The sheer dedication and skills that took is wild.
The movie itself is really good too! HECKA dark—like I’m not sure I could watch it a second time because WOW it’s a lot—but man it’s really really good.

Hi Hal :)
Based on that "meet the blogger" rb: what got you into TF2 in the first place? Who was your favorite character at first and has it changed since then?
OOOOH hoi Casey! That's a good one!
I used to watch some SFMs when I was a kid, so I had a little bit of proper knowledge about the game and characters before one of my IRL friends and I watched Emesis Blue. Yes, the fan horror movie got me interested in the silly chaotic game!
After that, I decided to "study" about TF2 —which means reading and absorbing information as much as possible while giggling—. I watched all the videos the YouTube channel has a few times. The main comics were cool to read and translate to my sibling heheh.
And finally, I watched videos on how to play the game as well as picking my main. Now I'm stuck in the TF2 limbo, not that I mind.
Well, the character that interested me the most before "studying" was Medic purely based on the implications of him being a support —playing a DPS in a PvP game still scares me—. After learning more, it was still him, now intensified by his whimsical aura and silliness, as well as all the mechanics one can learn with him!
Thanks for the ask <3
