Beach monster emerges
In the previous post, we left Ralph the Labradoodle looking very unsure of himself with his first beach swim…
He was pretty eager to get back onto dry land again after being almost covered by a wave!
He emerged not looking quite so cute and cuddly, but still has a big grin on his face after escaping the water!
Look out dogs, there’s a freak off the leash!!
Hey dude, I think your face just…

Ralph beach run
We took Ralph – “the boy in a dog suit”, to Kingston Beach for his second off lead run! I took the OM-1 for a walk too with the weather-sealed Oly 14-150mm F4.0-5.6 II lens, so I didn’t have to worry about sand and water.
Little Ralph, a Labradoodle, is about 15 months old now, but his recall and attention span aren’t the best. He’s easily distracted, much like me! I haven’t posted in a while as…

Red Fungi Friends
Firstly, to get a sense of scale, at left below is the tip of my finger!
There’s been plenty of rain at the start of summer here, which has also brought on some fungi. I spotted this lovely group of little red ones on my return home from orchid hunting.
My shot was photobombed by bugs! below is the focus stacked image, remarkably both the bugs eyes are in focus!
Below is a cropped version of…

Orchid Spider
Next visit to the bearded orchid threesome, a spider was visiting.
It was shy to start with, but eventually came around.
This last image is stacked and it moved – and moved the orchid!
Life’s been hectic and it’s late! Time for bed. One last pic, a fern sprouting.
Take care and thanks for visiting 😀

Orchid Patch
These photos are much sharper than those in the last post. More time and less wind makes a big difference! Some morning shots at the Maroon-Hood Orchid patch.
There are three species of orchid in one small area about 12 feet square. Two of them are quite similar, but this small one has one thin grass like leaf.
And the Maroon-Hood has two or three flatter roundish leaves
Like this one that was…

Maroon Hood patch
It’s interesting when I visit how this orchid has changed, another day in it’s life …
One of the other orchids with similar leaves nearby has opened too …
The next day, this one was looking a little happier …
Some of the other buds I found in the same area …
It was a bit windy and they kept moving, I waited for it to drop but the camera has a little trouble lining the focus stack up.
And a…

Super small
Ok, I can’t hold it in! Rare second post for the day.Just edited an exciting tiny find from today, a sneak peek at a 2-3 mm purple orchid I found almost buried in leaf litter. I can’t believe I saw it!
This is a single edited RAW image, more to come in a future post!

Bug on bearded friend
I visited my beautiful purple bearded orchid friend again, to find a bug nesting on the top unopened bud. The second bud was also beginning to open.
I decided to start shooting from the top while the bug was still. It wasn’t until I was editing these later, that I noticed his leg and wing are damaged.
The second bud opening …
And if your not sick of her, the bearded lady smiling in the…

Surprise finds
When I visited the Maroon-hood Orchid again, it was looking much better now the rain had stopped for a day.
While I was waiting for the camera to take 15 photos and process the stacked image, I looked around the surrounding bush …
When something ridiculously small caught my eye! About the size of a blade of grass, with a small lump at the top, about 10 feet away amongst the ferns …
Then,…

MaroonHood visit 2
I first found this little orchid last Friday and I couldn’t visit it Saturday. We had an uncomfortable soaking drizzle all weekend, which was great for the forest overall as it’s been very dry, but not so good for this young bud. I made a quick visit Sunday afternoon with it still raining. Lucky the OM-1 is weather-sealed 🙂
A bit about image editing.
The first shot below is an in camera 15…

A new orchid
Firstly let me bore you with the old faithful Purple Beard which I visit most days before I get onto “FIND OF THE DAY”.
After spending some time admiring Purple Beard and enjoying it’s smile, I begrudgingly set off for home as it was time to get ready for … work I walked down a track I often take back home, hurrying, running late, still scanning sides of the track in hope of a new find. Then, I…

Heirloom Orchids
A reprieve from wild orchids, welcome to my garden! These two domestic orchids currently out in flower sit on my deck and were inherited from my Grandmother May and my wife’s Aunty Liz.
This first one was my Grandmothers which was almost lost, but I managed to save it after reluctantly repotting in desperation a few years ago. Thankfully it has bounced back wonderfully!
Below is Auntie Liz’s…

Orchid Diversion
I know, not more Purple Bearded Orchids… save us!The following day …
With some business south in Kingston, I took a detour and followed directions of another photographer to a small suburban park … After stumbling around thinking I was on a wild goose chase, I finally found the Orchid below in the middle of the track, past it’s best.
I saw an image by Peter from Wombat Photography’s Facebook…

Blooming Beard
The next evening, a visit after dinner … hello beautiful!
Every time I go out, I try to take better photos, sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. Often when I take them, I envision the final edited version. I’m my biggest critic, I see flaws in each photo and try to learn from every image, it is a personal challenge to keep improving. And that’s why I love photography.

Budding Beard
Under the scattered canopy of the remaining guardians, amongst the leaf litter on the recovering forest floor, life begins anew, purple beards bud and bloom.
I found this new Orchid a week ago hidden in plain sight, right on the corner of two fire trails. I’ve been visiting often. One of many new finds waiting bloom, to florish, to publish.
I feel like it’s an exciting secret I’ve been holding,…
