So I do science.

I’ve put a hell of a lot of years into doing science, and I’ve done a lot of different kinds.  I did a multi-focused undergraduate degree with several different fields of research, a multi-focused after-degree with more research, and I’m now in the fourth year of a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology.  I’m certainly not claiming to be an expert or anything, but.  I do science.  All kinds of science, all the time, and I love it.

The only thing I really do, other than science, is write.  And when I write, I research every detail extensively.  Particularly the science, of course, but other things as well.  Accuracy means a lot to me – I love being accurate, and even more than that, I love encountering accuracy when I read (or watch, or listen).  And I know there are other people out there who feel the same.

When I finish my Ph.D., I would like to make a career out of science consultation.  Any kind of science, any medium, any audience.  I suppose most people who do what I do would like to be professors, investigators, academicians, would like to enter industry or work in drug development or edit technical journals.  What I want to do – what I’ve wanted to do for longer than I can say – is to make creative science.

So here’s what I’m doing.  I’ve done a little bit of science consultation; I want to do a lot more.  A lot more.  So I have a science consultation blog.  And a Twitter.  And some other stuff as well, but this is just, y’know.  An experiment.  (So please feel free to spread the word as much as you would like.  I would really love to see this work out.)

Basically… if you have a science question of any kind (fanfiction, homework, idle curiosity, whatever!) and you want a quick answer, or a detailed answer, or an answer you can’t find on Google, or an explanation of something you did find on Google, or something you can’t quite put into words well enough to Google or… anything…

… you are welcome to ask me over there?

Finally sucked it up and submitted my entry to Project Rooftop’s Fantastic Four redesign contest!  I love superhero teams, especially ones who spend a lot of their time sciencing, so this was fun.

I decided to go with a midcentury-inspired/sci-fi look for their uniforms- not the most drastic change, of course, but I wanted something sleek that played around with the 4 iconography a bit more than usual.  I Also took the bodysuit-as-wearable-computer concept a bit more literally with the optional retinal HUD, and made Ben a bit of a beefcake.  Because why the hell not
