Livets Hopp (Live's hope/jump) is out!
During Fall Game Jam I tried to make my first Playdate game with Lua. Result is a game about getting more time before death takes you.

I spend a lot of time investigating the rule of thumb a lot of game companies have when it comes to LOD creation. While numbers might be different it is formulated similar to.
"LOD1 should be 75% of LOD1, and we switch to it when it covers 70% of screen. (and so on for LOD2...)"
⛔ I did a thorough investigation of this and came to the conclusion that is is not possible to formulate such a rule. How quickly meshes collapses is entirely asset defendant.
Tumblr media
⚠ Another way of saying this is: It is possible to either decide the number of triangles a LOD should have, but we can not know when to transition to it. Or we can decide when to switch to the LOD, but not know the exact number of triangles in that LOD.
Tumblr media
➡ I recommend thinking about in the second way, decide when to perform LOD transition and then give that LOD level as many triangles as it needs to look decent. However, if you have a specific need for using exact triangle count and ratio, the blog below is covering how to calculate when to switch to that LOD.
❤️ I will also bring up how to connect this to Unity's LODGroup, as well as reusing original materials.

I tried to play around with playdate and the pulp editor. Seems very easy to make adventure games with it... now I just need inspiration for a good story 💀

A lot of ghost stories can be abstracted into that there is a "state" where there should be none; houses keeping the routines of the old dead owners, dolls remembering the name of kids...
With Internet of Things we are basically making everything haunted by introducing hidden states to our everyday objects. This brings up a need for proper digital exorcists.
We are building a world filled with witchcraft and wonders.
