Attempted my first every gap fill π
itβs interesting to say the leastβ¦.
(Ignore how bumpy the bottom isβ¦)
Hopefully the gap filling on my actual object will be better! lmao

The first museum object Iβm conserving - a Roman black burnished ware jar!
Itβs honestly crazy to think that I started my programme 4 weeks ago and now Iβm being trusted with such a cool artefact. Iβll likely fix up previous attempts at conservation and attach pieces that have broken off
Obligatory pictures of pictures I took of it earlier lmao

Unfortunately I donβt know too much about how selective the national trust is :( based on the competitiveness of the general museum/heritage industry here, Iβd imagine it can get pretty competitive depending on the role & location
Iβm in Wales so Iβm mostly familiar with Cadw, which I have volunteered for (but rarely has jobs open). There will at least be far more opportunities available with NT, thatβs for sure
If you use Reddit, Iβd recommend r/museumpros (itβs open to general heritage pros too, not just museums). Iβd imagine you could potentially find someone who may have some direct experience with NT, English Heritage, or Historic England. In addition to this, you may be able to find people on LinkedIn (I know, gross) or even instagram that have attended the Edinburgh programme or that have positions with NT and you could ask them for advice, how they felt about the programme, or how they got their positions
I hope this was at least somewhat helpful π
Hi!!! Iβm planning on going into historic architecture conservation for my masters once at finish up my art history BA. My dream job is to work for the National Trust, though Iβm in the US. Just saying hi since we have such similar academic alignment! Iβm in my 2nd year right now, so Iβm really intrigued about someone whoβs a bit ahead of me in this track.
Hello there! Thanks for being my first ask! I think your interests sound super cool and we definitely have similar paths! Are you considering doing your masters in the UK? I think thereβs some pretty nice architecture conservation programmes here (York if I recall? Not too sure though since Iβm doing object conservation haha).
Feel free to harass me on this account or message me on my main if you ever want to chat or if you have specific questions!
You didnβt necessarily ask, but hereβs some general advice for the field: start volunteering and try to find relevant internships if you have the time and ability to. Knowing people and having experience will get you super far, plus itβs very fun and can help confirm what your interests are!

I applied for a placement at a museum and Iβm so desperate for it π there were two different ones and I was rejected for the first one (rip) and I was invited for an βinformal chatβ about the second one
So so so desperate to get it. The chat is in like 3 days and Iβm terrified

Week 3 of my masters.
Super stressed already ngl! Iβve been a bit ill (was just told Iβm anemic and have celiac disease! Fun!) and Iβm still learning to juggle my personal life, classes, studying, and volunteering π«
