we're varioriented, of course we want everyone else to be vario too.
we're vario, of course we constantly have to choose between our different identities.
we're vario, of course we're fake if our "split" isn't between sexual and romantic orientation.
we're vario, of course the reason for our identity is internalised homomisia.
we're vario, of course everyone assumes all of us are aro or ace.

varioriented culture is not liking the term "split attraction model" because
1. "split" makes it sound like each of my orientations are just parts of one bigger orientation rather than their own full orientations. there's already an attitude that varioriented people's orientations aren't real, that one is more real than the other or that we are really this or that. our orientations aren't seen as their own orientations and this term kind of reinforces this idea.
2. "attraction" is equated with orientation here, even though there are many people who experience different kinds of attraction but aren't varioriented/don't label multiple orientations, like many people labelling themselves as "just ace" or "just aro", despite acknowledging that they do experience other kinds of attraction they don't find worth labelling. the term "split attraction model" is often used to describe variorientation/multi-orientation labelling, even though they are not always the same thing.
3. "model" makes it sounds like this is something that only exist in theory rather than a real thing or like something that is applied to other people to analyse them.
4. the term came directly from ace exclusionists who claimed that aces and aros "forced the split attraction model" onto other queer people simply by using labels such as aromantic lesbian or pan asexual. before that, ace and aro communities didn't have a name for this, people just used multiple labels without having a word for that. later people came up with the terms varioriented and multi-orientation labelling which are both older than the term split attraction model and were created by varioriented people themselves rather than by people harassing us.

varioriented culture is loving people whose variorientedness isn't a "split" between sexual and romantic orientation but other combinations of orientations.

varioriented culture is being tired of being seen as 50% bi and 50% ace, rather than 100% bi, 100% ace and 100% bi-ace.

hey maveriques and allies!
the 31st may has been declared maverique visibility day a while ago as that was when maverique was first coined.
the 31st may 2024 is the 10-year anniversary of the coining of maverique.
i feel like this might be a great opportunity for us and our allies to do something to increase visibility of and awareness for maveriques.
i already have a vague plan for a maverique episode on my podcast and i will post something on my instagram as well.
if anyone else has ideas about what we can do as a community, hit me up!
it's time for us to finally move past only being featured as an obscure nonbinary identity, together. it's time for us to be known.
