hey tumblr! i know i said i’d be showing off some new art today, but it’ll have to be tomorrow. by the time i had finished what i wanted to show off, the sun had already gone down and it was impossible to get a good photo.

the project i’m working on isn’t hermitcraft, but it is loosely based off my adventures in modded minecraft (with my girlfriend tagging along). i’m excited to share, i really think it’s turning out great.

ps: i also got the most incredible thing on clearance. i was looking for a mini fridge since i use VR to work out and wanted a way to have cold drinks right in my bedroom/gaming space.

IT’S A MINECRAFT MINI FRIDGE. and it’s AWESOME. i would’ve loved this 10 years ago and i still love it now. minecraft merch continues to be incredibly cool.

Hermitcraft - MOON’S BIG! (Pencil Cover)

Made this for an assignment for my Materials and Techniques class this quarter. We had to make a comic cover, but it could be based on anything we wanted, with a few restrictions on what needed to be included (SCAD logo, title, artist name, issue #). I’ve been obsessed with Hermitcraft lately, so of course this was the first thing that came to mind. It was super fun to work on- never drawn Mumbo before!

I hope I get to draw them for some more academic work this quarter.

You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.

By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.

I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?

sorry i haven’t got any art for you this (well, by now, last) week. three page comic in the works, but it probably won’t be done until midweek next week. ^-^’’

hope you’re all having a pleasant weekend. sorry i haven’t got any cool pictures to post today, but hopefully that should change soon. i’m going to try and do some nib pen practice once i finish my homework for the week, so expect some neat experimental art soon-ish. i have to use nibs for my next school project, which i’m straight up dreading. i’m a control freak when it comes to ink, and nib pens are the exact opposite of reliably controllable. but! i also bought a proper scanner of my very own! so you’ll be seeing my traditional pencils and inks (and even some color pieces!) in better resolution soon! i’m also going to be making some comics loosely based on some experiences i’ve had in modded minecraft for the aforementioned next project, so you guys will get to see those once they’re done. i’m really excited about that.

sorry i haven’t been posting much. i haven’t had time to draw a ton on my tablet since all of my studio classes are traditional this quarter.

currently obsessed with grian and have been watching both old and current hermitcraft so so much. i’m doing a piece based off of Moon’s Big for my drawing class, and i’m very excited about it. :)

have a crappy-drawn grian that i i did as a warmup the other day— ironically keeping a video on in the background makes me do my homework faster. most of the time. :)
