I remember reading The Godfather and The Andromeda Strain the winter that i was in 4th grade; also Dracula, several of the then popular disaster novels, plus classic tales of human misconduct like Mutiny on the Bounty.
I have no regrets.

When i was a child and still believed in biblical prophecy, i considered it obvious that most self-righteous contemporary "Christians" would not recognize a second appearance of the Jesus described in the New Testament.

When constitutional questions arise in the news, or someone cites a specific amendment, i take a minute to find and read the actual text of the U.S. Constitution. The relevant section isn't very long; many of the amendments and some articles are just a few sentences. And it is written in English. Reading those paragraphs helps clarify the legal matter in my mind. It also shows me what our countrymen had on their minds in 1787.

ME: Where's that thick vine i wanted to go cut with a saw?

ME: Are you sure?
MYSELF: No.
ME: Shall we go for a walk?
MYSELF: Let's bring the saw.

If you've lost count of all the people you know diagnosed with a certain condition, i don't believe they have a "disorder"; statistically, they fall within the normal range of human behaviors.
The more you understand yourself, the better your life can be — especially when you recognize that your natural disposition is advantageous in some circumstances, but unhelpful in others.
