Sometimes people forget that James Buchanan Barnes is an assassin. Sometimes they forget that the shadows are his playground. That back alleys, underground tunnels, and secluded rooftops are like home to him…but she never did.

He caught her scent on the air, something his enhanced senses would recognize anywhere. He had been tracking her for almost two days. Every so often he would catch the wisp of bright red whipping around a corner. She always was better at this than him.

My Natalia. This was his only driving thought. Forcing him to put one foot in front of the other and follow her trail like a single-minded bloodhound.

Ah, there she is. He found her catching her breath in a very secluded back alley, her arm propped against the wall of an unmarked building. Dressed head to toe in black, the only color he could see was the shock of red laying against her shoulders.

Sinking back into the shadows and going on the balls of his feet, he crept silent and determined down the alley, careful not to make a single sound. Finally within arms reach he acted quickly…before she could get her wits about her. He shoved her chest first into the brick.

He grabbed her hip surprisingly gently in his more than capable and dangerous hands and spun her to face him. He leaned his considerably heavier weight into her and pressed the cool metal of his left arm against her throat.

His mouth twitched up into a cruel but affectionate smile. It had been way too long since they had seen each other.

"We really have to stop meeting like this, doll."

The regularly updated timeline of all major events within this silly Humans Are Space Orcs verse I'm cobbling together. Shouldn't be too different from my archive as I do not like time travel, will not retcon anything, and everything is canon.

2070 - First Contact 2071 - The Galactic Coalition erects the "Responsibility Barrier" around Earth 2131 - Earth "vanishes" 3130 - Earth reappears and Humans have a fuckyuge fleet, god-tier production capacity, but are good sports and join up the Coalition immediately as an equal to the longest-standing members, and begin cooperation and integration efforts. [We'll do it Our Way] and nobody can figure out [What did they even do?].

2132 - 3129 - From the Human perspective, it was chaos and they were [Alone with themselves]. - "Vanishing" is a transition and turns out [There's Something In-between] and that something is just waiting for [An Idle Mind to invite It in] , and, oh boy, It is not happy about that [Faint Light] caused by the transition process. - Advances happened, a reactor blew up and now Humanity [Can No Longer Wait] for things to get better on their own. [Humans are trying] to keep Earth from crumbling, but destruction is always simpler than mending. - Oh yeah, [Cthulu lives down there] btw.

3131 Q3 - Somebody finally managed [to notice something strange like that]. And uh... [PANIC] (but secretly)

3131 Q1 - There's this certain Captain Knoslark who is really eager to show how Humans [Ignite] their engines, demonstrate how [awesome warp gate tech is gonna be one day] (with some [added accidental possible uses]).

3131 Q2 - He's also moving the warp gate project to a [new level], but is learning that [large undertakings are a bit slower] on the progress side. His subordinates are no slouches and are [considering opportunities] when they arise. While he's passionate for sure, it doesn't translate to every aspect of his job and [sometimes you make a typo] and destroy the wrong moon, who hasn't?

Okay, me from the top of this post is a liar, this is becoming a mess and that's okay I think (currently). Honestly the best way is to read them from the archive in the order they were posted.

What if Bella was Fae and didn't know it? The parameters for this are broad, so let's just say shortly after Bella was born, Renée took a trip to Ireland and left Bella in a stroller by the woods. Bella gets switched with a changeling and Renée never finds out.

Assuming Bella makes it to Forks, how does Twilight go down? (Feel free to give Bella whatever powers you think she should have/shouldn't have.)

I mean, first off, even if we get to Twilight, things are going to be very different.

Bella Loves Forks

Forks, a rural town with relatively little iron and steel compared to large American cities, feels great for Bella who's in constant pain in places like Phoenix with her mother.

Renee really hates on Forks, and Bella wants to hate it for a long time, but good god it's like getting medication.

However, we'll say that Renee got weird on Bella liking Forks too much so Bella awkwardly stopped going because it was clear shit would go down at home if she kept going. Bella and Charlie's relationship becomes strained then non-existent because of this.

So she only ends up in Forks in 2005 but uh... very clearly jumps on the excuse to go. Oh, you're married, Renee? Well gee shucks I've got to go live in Forks now, byeeeee.

This is made awkward as Bella can't lie (even more so than in canon, she physically cannot lie) so she has to dance around the topic whenever Renee asks her why she wants to move.

Bella's in Forks Now

Bella's determined to be a normal teenager. She fucked up at her last school by being weird all the time, but now is her time to shine. She will be a normal person, with normal friends, and nobody will think she's strange!

Bella fucks this up by speaking in verse at lunch about getting drunk on wine under the full moon's light.

"FUCK" - Bella Swan

Well, she's hot enough that this doesn't matter to the guys and Jessica... stares a bit but goes with it. So Bella's a huge nerd, she can date Eric and they can go to Comicon together dressed as hobbits or whatever.

Across the lunchroom, the Cullens stare and ask for dirt on the new girl. As before, Edward finds her overrated but finds he can't read her thoughts. He concludes she's uppity and has a desperate need for attention based on her constantly talking in verse.

They get to Biology where...

Edward doesn't smell the smell. Bella's one of the fair folk now, she's not human, she's going to smell weird but not delicious. Edward gives her a very funny look and concludes, eventually, she's not like Ephraim was (as Edward also thinks the shifter line died out).

He and Bella spend the lecture giving each other the side eye. Bella's spidey senses are tingling with this one and she tries to ignore it because nothing good comes from her spidey senses, it always leads to weird.

She decides it's just because he's hot and she must like him.

Yes.

That's what normal girls do.

Bella is a normal girl.

And Then?

See, the thing is, I doubt Bella can or will drive because too much fashioned metal. Bella tells Charlie, for reasons she will not explain, that she must walk to school. Charlie at this point doesn't question this, Bella's hated cars since birth.

As a result, she does not nearly get crushed by Tylor's van and is not carted off to the hospital where Carlisle would certainly no she's not human.

So, nothing happens.

Bella and Edward sit next to each other, but he just thinks she's weird and boring. Bella, for her own part, continues to tell herself she's hopelessly in love with Edward Cullen (because look how hot he is) and that these aren't the spidey sense tingles.

Weird stuff happens, I imagine, like Bella accidentally turning things into trees, being unable to cross lines of salt, being unable to cross running water, but everyone ignores this as the Cullens don't care and everyone else is too weirded out.

Twilight never happens.

Okay cus I can here's little explanations for why each song in the Bill playlist is in the Bill playlist as of today (i change it a lot).

Razzle Dazzle- song about tricking people via showbiz. Specifically making them trust you. That's all he does.

Birdhouse in Your Soul- 'ahaha you can trust me ahahha :] or can you >:]'

Hip to Be Square- Patrick Bateman. Also it's about how cool it is to conform.

Dancing Queen- The ABBA songs are on here cus I think he'd like them. Dancing Queen is his favourite.

Winner Takes it All- Also an ABBA song but it's got some Bill themeing to it like you kinda gotta play dirty to get what you want cus the world is unfair.

Can't Decide- I remember.... 2014.....

I'm Gonna Win- Spiritual successor to Can't Decide in my head. All about how this guy's never gonna give up ever. Bill literally refuses to die out of spite multiple times.

Talking in Your Sleep- Movie song. It also goes hard.

My Way- Asshole anthem and another song he'd probably like irl.

Lifetime Achievement Award- This one is more Vanny singing AT him but yeh, get revived by an obsessive fan, idiot.

Fun fact: Boruto's ending 2 song 'Sayonara Moon town' was first released in episode 14, during Nue arc. The first version of this ending was about Sumire and whole Nue arc(after episode 15, the next version was about Sarada gaiden). If you read the lyrics, it is just so romantic, basically trying to spoil some Bsu future moment.

Yeah you know what makes it even more amazing is that the ending was done for that episode only, while the ending song remains the same that ep got its own unique ending.

Literally normally endings would be used for the entire arc or swap at the halfway points, but the true second ending focused on Sumire put in the work to make it only to be used in one episode.

The lyrics are romantic like you said as well, the Sarada focused ending doesn't make sense nor match the lyrics when the ending accompanying the song is more focused on SasuSaku family as whole so a romantic song doesn't match. While the Sumire ending shows her struggle and references Boruto saving her while matching the lyrics of the song as well.

A path is faintly illuminated by the moon… I wonder where we'll go from here. The moon faintly wavers on a nearby lake… C'mon and show us our unknown futures!

First verse basically references Boruto saving Sumire and leading to a new future, but also it was a full moon on the night the Nue incident took place. Moon can also be a referenced to the Jougan as well which reacted to Sumire and Nue.

We're afraid of having more things that are important to us. We've lived shutting ourselves off, but it seems we'll end up meeting anyway. So if fate tries to pull us apart, I want to protect you, even if it destroys this world!

The second verse expresses how Sumire is afraid of getting closer and shut herself off yet in the end couldn't help growing attach to everyone especially Boruto. While the second line references Boruto wanting to protect and save her even though she was fated to be an enemy and tried to destroy the village.

Even while knowing this dream is fleeting, I still want to live my life with someone else. Even if I learn the pain of loss, I'll always be longing for someone else.

Goodbye... goodbye... We'll overcome this goodbye! Ah...

While the last two once again are about Sumire how she doesn't want to be alone and how she will overcome it. It also references how she was apart of the class and friends with everyone despite knowing it will one day end. It also hints at her longing for Boruto as well.

I could probably go more in depth with the analyse for even more references and hints, but just how easily you can gleam references to BoruSumi in the lyrics from a quick look shows the song was meant for them.

"Hello, Liebchen..." Klaus walked out of the bedroom following the smell of fresh bread and seasonings for the marinara sauce.

Even though he was 52, he still dressed pretty much like he always had. He wore a shimmery see-through crop top and the tiniest underwear, glitter from the party they attended the night before still covering his eyes, cheeks, and (somewhat gray) curls. Ah, the advantages of being empty-nesters...

Ever since Fortune left to go to college about 45 minutes away, Klaus and Vicky had been living like they did in their early 20s. Parties, weed, drinks, junk food, lots and lots of sex. No one understood how they got the energy, but they did.

"Good morning, sleeping beauty! This has to be a new record, you slept for half a day," Victoria teased. "Hungry?"

"Oh yeah, I'm definitely hungry," Klaus embraced her from behind and slid his hands up to feel up her chest. "You look even sexier now that I'm sober."

"Thanks, but I don't think we'll have time for that now, Klausie," she laughed.

"What? Why?" He pouted.

"You forgot? Fortune is coming for dinner, honey, she's bringing her new boyfriend."

Klaus' demeanor immediately went sour, it was the first time their daughter was bringing a boy for them to meet and he was sure he would hate anyone she introduced. Not because he'd necessarily be an asshole, but obviously because no one in the world can ever be good enough for his Fortune.

In an effort to be as different as possible from his own father, he became the most doting dad he possibly could. It was a miracle his daughter turned out so sweet and grounded after how spoiled she was.

"I know I promised to be cool about this dating thing, but..."

"I know," Vicky stirred the sauce carefully while giving her husband a sympathetic look. "You never thought you'd be square and get jealous of your little girl, but there you are. Don't worry, Tunnie has a good head on her shoulders and good taste. She knows what a good man looks like, we raised her well."

He nodded, trying to blindly trust his wife, as more often than not, she was right. What's the worst that could happen? She was only 18, it's not like she could get pregnant... or marry way too young... or join a cult with this guy like several people did when Destiny's Children was around. Well, shit.

About an hour later the doorbell rang, Klaus had already showered and put on some less slutty clothes, so he ran to open the door while Victoria set the table.

"My Tunnie!" He pulled his daughter into his arms and squeezed her as if it was the first time they saw each other in years (it had been a week). "I missed you so much, is your throat better? Did the medicine help?"

"Yeah, Dad, I'm fine. I missed you too," Fortune chuckled, already used to the overprotection.

"Oh, check it out! I love it," he took her arm to get a better look at her new tattoo of the moon. "Uncle Luther is gonna love it!" He joked, completely ignoring the boy waiting by the door as well.

"Thanks," she smiled, pulling her boyfriend closer as her mom joined. "Dad, this is Jax. Jax this is my father, Klaus, and my mother, Victoria."

"Hey," was all he said.

"So nice to meet you," Vicky went in for a hug despite being a little hesitant. He didn't seem like the type of guy her daughter would be interested in.

The boy was tall and muscular, his arms were covered in tattoos, his long hair was shaped a little bit like a mullet and messy, he had a dangling earring, wore a spike necklace, and a leather jacket. From what they could count, he had two more piercings (on his eyebrow and his tongue).

"Jax? Like a dog?" Klaus laughed. "Come on in, dinner is ready."

An awkward silence engulfed the entire family while everyone got themselves some pasta and garlic bread. As a former horrible influence, Klaus could recognize one when he saw it, and he didn't like it one bit.

"So, what are you studying, Jax?" Victoria finally asked. She had to admit despite not being the sort of man she would've gone for back in her day, he was very handsome.

"I'm in nursing school," he answered. "My mom was a nurse in Japan before we moved to America."

Klaus nearly choked, a nurse? Really? That guy looked like he would punch someone in the face for asking him the time.

"Oh, you're Japanese? Where are you from? My husband and I did a ton of missions- works there," Victoria smiled.

"Osaka."

"Wow! That's amazing, we loved hanging around Dotonbori. Right, Klausie?"

"Um? Yeah, yeah, really cool place," Klaus nodded, trying not to let his thoughts wander too much.

"Jax is also in a band, he plays the drums," Fortune added. "He helps at the animal shelter on the weekends and volunteers at the nursing home every Monday."

"Good one," her father snorted before he could stop himself.

"What do you mean, Dad?"

"Oh come on, are we just gonna pretend like Asian James Dean looks like someone who likes to volunteer!"

"Klaus!" Victoria scolded. "What did I tell you? You were never like this, you were never one to judge appearances, what's going on?"

"Yeah, Dad, you always told me you can never judge a book by its cover when my classmates would tease me saying you're gay!" Fortune exclaimed.

Meanwhile, poor Jax sunk in his seat wanting nothing more than to disappear. He was scared something like that was gonna happen and he really liked Fortune.

"I know, but- but you're my daughter! And he's bad news!" Klaus cried irrationally. "I know how that sounds, Vicky. I know I'm bad news too, but in a different way!"

"Klausie, you were the most promiscuous teenager I've ever met, you broke every law I can think of, you used every substance under the sun, and you were a cult leader involved in a tax fraud scandal!" Victoria scoffed.

"Alright, yeah, that's true... but in my defense, it was the '60s, cults were all the rage!"

"Dad, you have nothing to worry about. Yeah, he's kinda intimidating at first, but he's a huge softie, he's just shy," Fortune said, taking her boyfriend's arm.

"I- I wanted to leave a good first impression," Jax admitted. "But when I'm nervous, I shut down a bit."

Klaus suddenly felt like shit seeing the kid looking so scared. He never had that experience to meet Victoria's parents, he couldn't imagine how scared he would be, how horrible he would feel if they treated him like he treated Jax.

"You know what? Let's give it another shot, you seem decent enough. I'm Klaus, nice to meet you," he offered his tattooed hand.

"Jax Hayashi, nice to meet you too," the boy smiled, grateful for the second chance.

"Tell me in thirty seconds why you deserve to date my Fortune," he teased.

"I work hard, I always try to better myself, I cook, I'm good with kids and animals, I like to make her laugh, and... and I love her, she's the most amazing and most beautiful girl I've ever seen in my life."

Victoria grabbed her husband's arm, her heart tight with emotion. Just like him, Jax was good and sweet, just underneath a little bit of a weird surface. Fortune smiled, knowing her dad would come around after all.

"She really is, isn't she? Not to brag, but I helped making her," Klaus chuckled. "Fun fact, did you know Fortune here was actually conceived in 1963 right before the assassination of JFK?"

All the discussion of the guts of the video

This has been floating around my head for months now, particularly a few of the sequences. I had the shape of the pacing of the verses, particularly the Barbara introduction very early on, as well as knowing what issues I was going to rely heavily on for material.

I really wanted to use Something Just Like This as it's both an excellent song to set a ship to, but it also of course allowed a bunch of massive ironic moments for various lyrics.

I wanted it to be set in a pre-Flashpoint universe, so that Barbara was still Oracle. Which made finding enough DickBabs panels for the opening verse somewhat of a challenge, as I was only allowing myself pre-1988 material, legitimate flashbacks, and dream sequences. Batgirl Year One, you will always be famous (and have a very useful kiss). But I succeeded and I didn't even give in to the impulse when I was one panel short to use a Barbara and Jason panel from Gotham Knights #43, even though I was really really tempted. Instead I went through Batman Family from the 1970s and found something I could shoehorn in that sounded shippy.

I did use Lil Gotham, even though it's technically a n52 comic AND an alternate universe. But it has a bunch of very cute DickBabs moments with her wheelchair in them, putting it firmly into the storyline I was trying to convey. That's why all of the Lil Gotham scenes (apart from the one flashback) went into the post-proposal section.

We'll just say in terms of the story told in the video, Dick and Babs actually got back together following the proposal instead of what actually happened, and then they had many cute moments together as a couple.

Stuff I really want to point you at and go 'did you see did you see' because I had too much fun with it:-

'Achilles and his gold' - Bruce is of course Achilles here, and his Achilles heel has always been Dick, the boy wearing a gold cape.

'Spider-Man's control and Batman with his fists' - this was another really really early scene I knew. I wanted the World's Finest circus scene with Dick on the trapeze and Bruce catching him. To have Batman's 'fists' in this scene not be punching, but be catching, with all of the imagery that surrounds Dick and his issues about catching people? Yeeeeessss.

'And clearly I don't see myself upon that list. But she said, where'd you wanna go?' - this came together when I was picking panels. I wanted a lovely ironic moment for Dick about how he doesn't see himself as Batman, so the costume transition panel looked SO GOOD for that. And then...I remembered Dick and Babs' first meeting in Robin Year One actually contains the line 'Dad! Are you ready to go yet?!'. And the panels line up so it looks like Dick is sprinting away from Bruce to Barbara, particularly given where the blank white space is.

And then we launch into Batgirl Year One, the main anchor of good DickBabs content prior to both of their costume changes. It's very important to me that I put the giggling panel AFTER the kiss as 'I want something just like this' - what they want is not just the romance but the comfort and trust around each other.

Despite using Batgirl Year One, I still wanted librarian!Barbara with her multiple degrees, so we got two panels of that.

I am SO PROUD to have got oath scenes for both Dick and Babs into this, and I find it amusing I put them on different lines for each of Dick and Barbara. Dick got "the legends and the myths" because his candle oath is such an important part of the mythology of Batman. But Barbara's is on "the testaments they told", because for her the important part of the legends and the myths was choosing to wear an urban legend's costume to the party, while swearing fit best with the testaments.

'The moon and its eclipse' - this was the anchor the entire video revolved around. I had to acknowledge TKJ to get to Oracle, and that line was absolutely perfect. I also went through a BUNCH of panels to decide which one I wanted for the scene, but ultimately picked Gail Simone's n52 retelling, because that one doesn't include imagery of Barbara being shot; it just has the threat.

'And Superman unrolls a suit before he lifts' - this gave me SO MUCH ANGST let me tell you. I actually wanted to use the scenes of Clark flying Barbara for medical treatment in BOP #71 and #85, because I've always loved that moment - Dinah calls Clark in and Clark officially doesn't even know who Babs is at that point, but she's got deadly Brainiac Virus so they're going to do everything they can. And it worked for storytelling as it would be 'Superman transports Barbara Gordon after being shot'. But the associated panels were far less clear than in my memory. So instead I gave 'Superman' to Jim Gordon, and then launched into Oracle Year One and Bruce being a creeper (as opposed to the time he's a creeper during Brainiac. He likes sneaking through the window to stare at Barbara when she's ill).

'But I'm not the kind of person that it fits' this was just perfect for Barbara, because from here on out she doesn't wear a costume. She's Oracle. But teaming it with Oracle Year One and the fact that Babs still learnt new self defense afterwards makes the point that she hasn't stopped fighting.

And then we launch into the extremely Oracle Green scenes, showing off her competency. Including the fun of the 'cover the eyes' moment after an eyes focused panel. I was really happy to find something that worked for Barbara as Oracle and also for 'some fairytale bliss', because a LOT of backlit green computer scenes have grumpy or annoyed Barbara.

'Somebody I can miss' had to be the reunion during Cataclysm. Dick fought his way into Gotham to check on Barbara. They'd both been working so hard not to worry about the other as they did their jobs. And, of course, it made the perfect platform to launch into the most sick!fic of all DickBabs issues - the pair during NML after he gets out of Blackgate.

Which then leads into Joker Last Laugh and the NICE bit of their celebratory roadtrip right before Barbara gets the call from Dinah that that plot started. I adore I managed to line it up so the view on the drive appears just as the music calms, relaxing you. So we can have a lovely dinner followed by the 'Dick and Babs totally had sex' sleepover issues.

Third verse actually was ALWAYS going to be Our Worlds at War, because I think the Nightwing issue of it is underrated in terms of how blatantly shippy it is. Also the narrative of the issue actually fits the verse lyrics pretty well. It's one of Barbara's more badass workout gear looks that she tends to have during the issues when she's got to do things in person.

And of course I wanted to end the third verse with the proposal. Because proposal! I didn't want it too early, because I wanted everything after it to look like DickBabs in a stable, loving, long term relationship. Which is why we get the two shippy flying scenes (with catching! gotta have Dick catching imagery, combined with Barbara letting go of control), then I use 'Happy Birthday' to draw them over to Lil Gotham and Dick about to hand Barbara a present.

Having Lil Gotham here was really fun actually, as it's a continuity that has both Oracle AND DickBabs as a stable background fact, and just a bunch of cute moments between the two.

Then finally... a massive compilation storyline where I pull scenes from all over. After running reasonably canonically through a bunch of earlier storylines, putting together one that's just about the comfort Babs finds in having Dick around was really fun for me (also my Barbara stan nature confirmed)

Yes, I try to always respond, even if the comment is to an older fic. Sometimes I'm overwhelmed or don't even know what to say when someone's being way too kind to me lol, but I always want to let people know I see them and appreciate them so much.

The only time I don't... is when I see someone's binging my whole fic, so then I only respond to the last comment, once they're all caught up.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

This is easy, as I only have one fic without a happy ending - All and Then Most of You, Some and Now None of You. I love daemyra too much to not give them HEA as much as possible

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

This is hard to pick... Because all of my fics, apart from that one, end teeth rootingly sweet 😂 Perhaps Dominoes. Or perhaps fighter!au, which you guys haven't read yet but it's very fucking happy!

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Sometimes. Though it is much much better now that I disabled anon asks.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do! What kind I write... Hmm, tbf I think I write pretty vanilla stuff, even if I do try to explore some kinks here and there when it fits the story and the characters. I guess my kind is focusing on the feelings most of the time, and the emotional connection.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I don't, or at least I haven't yet. We'll see if muse ever strikes this way!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of, so hopefully not

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

A few times in a different fandom

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, not yet, but I'm definitely open to the idea. I definitely wrote a bunch of stuff based on my fandom friends' crazy ideas and prompts with their help, so that's halfway there, I guess

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

No couple had ever taken over my life and thoughts the way Daemyra did, so, the answer is clear!

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Soulmates AU? I was once so excited for it, wrote a bunch of notes and even the first two chapters, but now I'm kinda... not feeling it :(

16. What are your writing strengths?

I spent the longest on this question. I think it's the emotions I try to convey in my fics, good or bad.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Now this is much easier. Plot! Intrigue! If you guys haven't noticed yet lol, I write fics heavily focused on romance only, and the development of Daemyra's relationship, because I just can't pull off anything more than that.

I'll probably never write a fic where people will wonder what'll happen next, what that and this means, what this person's motivations are... Because I'm unfortunately not wired that way. But I learned to accept that, and I have fun writing my silly romances with no real plot <3

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I've done it myself a few times and I like to see it in other fics, too. Especially in HV it's delicious to see in the canon-verse. Though I always struggle with how to write the translation - right next to it, in cursive, in brackets, in the final notes?? That's always a head scratcher

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Eh, probably Twilight? I don't remember writing anything before that, so must be it

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Probably still High Hopes, even after all this time 🤍

Y'all are the ones that expressed a significant amount of interest in the wolfshifter!Ghost au and I am here with an update on it!

I know, so great. First chapter might suck, but I want to get something out in the next day or two. I feel guilty though, cause I did promise something like 2 weeks ago now.

So, because I feel the need to bless y'all with something, take a song I wrote. It wasn't originally intended for this particular AU, much less ship (and fandom) but it works really well. Written with intent to be a country song, but like not. I dunno, anyways, enjoy it!

Looking back at it, it's like a mix of both of them addressing the other and I think that's really neat. I dunno, maybe if someone asks nicely I'll attempt at singing it

Like I feel like bucks anger is so unexplored in the show and this line fits so well

Then the little change in the last chorus with the addition of:

Frontman Robert Smith wrote “Lovesong” as a wedding present for his bride-to-be Mary Poole in 1988. “Lovesong” was the second UK and third US single from Disintegration, The Cure’s eighth studio album, and is the band’s highest charting single in the United States, reaching #2 in late 1989. Despite the song’s enormous success, Smith has mixed feelings about the track. He expresses satisfaction in finally feeling comfortable enough to write a straightforward love song and feels the song keeps Disintegration from having only one mood – presumably “gloom”. However, he called it the weakest song on the album and expressed disappointment that it was the band’s breakthrough single in the US.

Lover Album with my personal 0-10 rating on how well it fits their storyline. 0= not at all, 10= totally fitting

Most of these songs were all always associated with Joe, but most are too broad to really nail down who they would be about.

I Forgot That You Existed (2/10)

Always assumed to be Calvin and really fits better. Mentions him being happy when her downfall before Reputation started.

"Got out some popcorn, as soon as my rep started going down"

Could be Matty. It would be very Taylor like to start an album saying she forgot that he existed, then continuing to write about him. Seems unlikely Matty was ever happy that her reputation suffered.

Cruel Summer (7/10)

"Bad, bad boy shiny toy with a price" - Joe was not considered a bad boy.

"Say that we'll just screw it up in these trying times. We're not trying"

"I don't want to keep secrets just to keep you" - could be Joe or Matty. Joe wanted her to keep them a secret, Matty and her would have needed to keep it secret.

"He looks up grinning like the devil" - generic, but never seemed like Joe

"I love you ain't that the worst thing you ever heard" - just seems like it would fit Matty to me. For no real reason.

Mentions the color Blue. Historically when Blue is used randomly it's a song that fits Matty and Taylors situation.

69. ivy - Taylor Swift

It wouldn't be right to do one of these without at least one Taylor song, so we got pretty lucky that you picked this number! Nice!

This song gets thrown around by a lot of swifties as an example of how good her songwriting has gotten, and I think it is quite a good example, but not really for the reasons they think. One could easily read the lyrics and dismiss her verbosity as pretentious set-dressing; a cynical shortcut to make herself and her songs appear deeper than they really are. I think the way some fans talk about her lyrics invites this kind of reading, but I promise you that indulging in that line of critique is doing a disservice to both the music and yourself.

The story told in ivy is one of conflict and infidelity; the narrator is having a passionate affair with someone else while her loveless, lifeless marriage gathers dust. The poetic language, instrumentation, and tone of Swift's voice all evoke much older forms of storytelling. Evocative stories are a cornerstone of country music, but have fallen out of favor in recent decades, and ivy seems to want to reach back even farther and remind the listener more of Jane Austen than Loretta Lynn (in fact, ivy wasn't out of place when it was used as a needle-drop in the Dickinson series). The melody is dark and tense, as are the dancing arpeggios on the guitar, as she sings verses about the pair being magnificently cursed; drinking her husband's wine and grieving for the living. The tension gets resolved in the chorus, where the melody warms up and she exclaims with relief (the use of "goddamn" feels more profane here than many of her uses of "fuck") that her "pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand taking mine."

The warmth becomes heat becomes fire when we reach a classic Taylor Swift Bridge where she proclaims "So yeah, it's a fire, it's a goddamn blaze in the dark, and you started it." From there, we never return to the tension of the verses, instead riding out the chorus until the end, with the narrator resigning herself to an imperfect life half-loved, crooning "my house of stone, your ivy grows, and now I'm covered in you" as electric guitar peaks its head out of the background.

This one's pretty good.

98. Psycho Killer- Talking Heads

I didn't know he was speaking french in parts of this until I played this song in Rock Band 2. I couldn't understand a lot of the lyrics when my parents played Bruce Springsteen tapes so I didn't think this was that weird. I still don't know what the french sections mean, aside from qu’est-ce que c’est, perhaps we'll never know.

Anyway this song is a classic, obviously. The bassline is rock solid but still has enough movement to keep the rhythm fun and danceable despite the slower tempo. David Byrne is an all-time great vocalist and he gives a great performance. I, too, hate people when they're not polite. This is such an obvious choice that you'd think it would be overdone and cliche to use it in movies, and maybe it is, but I still pop for it every time. It's like using Fortunate Son in Vietnam movies, sometimes the obvious choice is the right one.

8. Savior Complex - Phoebe Bridgers

I liked Phoebe Bridgers' first album, but Punisher was an improvement in basically every way. Savior Complex was a literal jaw-dropper the first time I listened to it, coming at the end of a devastating three song run including Chinese Satellite and Moon Song. Some musicians just have an ear for perfect pop melodies. Call their songwriting sophomoric (and you'd be correct), but power pop writers like Billie Joe Armstrong and Rivers Cuomo have always reminded me a bit of Paul McCartney in their ability to craft memorable, joyous, sometimes anthemic hooks and melodies seemingly in their sleep. Another skill of McCartney's, which far fewer are able to replicate, is his ability to write a melody that plays your heartstrings like a fiddle. Truly skilled musicians can tell a story and take you on an emotional journey without words, and Phoebe proves more than capable of that here. And I don't know if you've heard, but she's pretty fucking good at the "words" bit too.

Savior Complex might be my favorite Phoebe Bridgers song, even though there are plenty of others with stronger lyrics. But that melody, man. Those strings. The guitar nervously walking the bass notes around. The way her voice flutters when the title drops. Her breathy falsetto as she pleads that she's too tired, and a bad liar. Other songs got more attention on this album (and they deserve that attention), but Savior Complex is an understated masterpiece in my opinion. Just a gorgeous, gorgeous song. I love it so much.
