Observant and intelligent: Vasili was able to survive any sort of situation because of his good observant skills, and his capacity to act quicker. He was able to learn a lot of languages as well, and posed himself in different identities, that made it harder for the intelligence agencies to track him down.

Is reserved and introverted: Bell really doesn't speak to anyone much, unless when it comes to planning or going for missions, he needs to form a sort of communication to keep it lively. He is seen being more comfortable with Mason and Woods, but never felt having a good vibe with Adler. It was odd on his part, but it was going to grow very obvious when the truth would have come closer to any minute.

BACKGROUND STORY

Bell, who first used to live under the identity of Vasili Sokolov, was born in a family who had an army background, where his mother and father, both served during the Second World War, and hearing their stories, it gave Vasili a motivation to support his parents legacy by joining the intelligence — which was the KGB, going under the codename "Crow".

THE KGB ARC [REDACTED]

When Vasili joined the organisation, he showed a remarkable performance as a special agent. Some say he was born to join the intelligence and make the country proud, or he was a gifted child who could learn anything quickly and successfully perform a mission by stealing info or destroying any plans that could harm his country, without any failure. He even pointed out possible mistakes while planning out a mission, and in the end they worked out efficiently.

Sooner or later, Vasili's influence spread all around the world, especially during the Cold War, the enemies of the Soviet Union had a kill/capture on him. "Kill" because Vasili knew too much about them, and "Capture" because, they wanted him to tell everything he has with him, which likely created a risk for the KGB and they couldn't do so. With that, General Anton Charkov gave him the order to "retire" and stay hidden to protect himself along with the organisation. Disappointed, Vasili protested that it was the only thing that "kept him going", but having no choice, the agent decided to leave the KGB, under the General's orders.

PERSEUS ARC [REDACTED]

It was a matter of time, when one was going to collect him instead, realising he was now no longer affiliated with the KGB. Vasili was met with someone who called himself "Perseus", and requested him to join his alliance, since he knew about Vasili from his influence, and promised to give him full security, knowing he was hunted worldwide too. Seeing that as an opportunity, Vasili agreed to join in good terms, directly becoming Perseus's loyal agent.

As he continued his journey in the faction, he had shown his skills again which made Perseus as his most trusted agent, unlike the rest. But, at times Vasili has shown inner conflict towards his ideas. During the moment when he was explained about "Operation Greenlight" with the members, it left a strange feeling within his heart. He tried to protest, but he somehow couldn't refute his superior's words, and decided to acknowledge instead. Vasili had kept showing a remarkable performance, much to Arash Kadivar, one of the faction members, being envious of his relationship with Perseus.

Kadivar lures him to Trabzon Airport, where he takes Vasili, and explains that he didn't want any more "competition", resulting in him shooting the special agent in the car he was present in, leaving him to die and bleed alone. But, sooner or later, an attack situated on the airfield, unbeknownst to the dying Vasili who was growing unconscious every passing minute. Growing lost in his own thoughts, about Perseus that promised him to give him protection from the outer forces, but didn't recognise that his "own" people were against him too, as he questioned his existence at the same time.

SAFEHOUSE ARC

The voices echoed, and the man started to lose his breath.. until he woke up, and found himself in a strange place, where he couldn't remember anything of what happened. This is where, he encounters Russell Adler, a CIA agent who he curiously looks upon, having no idea. Unable to introduce himself, Adler briefed him about his name, being it under the codename "Bell". And this is where, all the very events of the canon game begin from here.

Based in Bristol, the band have been going on since the late 2010s and as a duo, show no signs of slowing down, bringing together heavy riffs alongside a big fuck you to our glorious leaders. I saw The Malefic Grip live for the first time at New Year NOISEFEST at The Exchange back on the 15th January 2023. They were early on in the bill and playing in the legendary basement that was completely packed. I was right at the back of the room when their set started and I swear that the drummer was just going off and playing these crazy noisy fills which really struck a chord with me. However as I moved closer to front I discovered that there wasn’t a drummer at all and in-fact the band were just standing there playing in a menacing fashion while a drum machine was playing these crazy rhythms, I was stunned by this! This was exactly what I wanted from this kind of festival and I thought that it was some kind of Black Metal without the corpse paint as Liam and Helen were screaming their heads off. Later on in the day after all of the acts had finished, I saw Liam at the bar and spoke to him, telling him how captured I was by their set. I remember him being very kind and thankful that I enjoyed it and also mentioning that he was inspired by the legendary Stoner Rock band Fu Manchu who I Iove and I went home thinking god, I need to seen them perform again and it wasn’t that long till I did.

Three distinctively different heavy tracks which display a multitude of ideas in which The Malefic Grip could explore. Bringing together elements of Sludge, Doom and Stoner and putting them into a giant cauldron to see what would come out of it. Great performances across the board here and the production does a good job at displaying them from the lonely guitar in Giles Corey to the groovy bass break near the end of Julius Sleazer.

Favourite Song, Unnatural Selection:

Upon listening to this EP for the first time I almost instantly recognised this song as I had seen it played live by the band many times before. I can see why this song has very much become a staple of their live sets as Liam’s vocals grab your attention from how aggressive the delivery is. This song presents danger in its tone as I imagine it to be a savage beast crawling across the floor, hunting for its next victim. This song also displays how good the drumming is on this EP in its sporadic pounding, it fits the vibe of the song perfectly and feels very anxious about what’s going to happen, like the person trying to hide away from the savage beast.

The Malefic Grip returns at a 2-piece band with a little help from their friends, producing a record which is in equal parts hell in its instrumentation and heaven in its vocal refrains which are incredibly memorable. The track listing here is very consistent and works well to establish a mood of dread with great placements of fast as well as slow songs. One of my favourite moments on this album is the song A Neglectful Throne which sounds exactly like its title. It has ones of those vocal refrains on it that I had mentioned earlier on, maybe the best on this album, “Bow and scrape, Crawl and Kneel, Cower and pray, Nothing but a statistic”. Also the drum machine is involved on this record and plays a big role in it but I think that aspect and all of these songs have so much more of impact live that is how I think that this band is best experienced.

Favourite Song, Worms:

The most unique song on the record, it feels like wading through a foggy swamp at the dead of night. It has a very hypnotic feel and satisfying heavy changes which happen seemingly out of nowhere with Liam’s throat singing being the bow on top of this present, tying everything together. Overall this song has a very satisfying feel to it.

Favourite Gig - CBOD presents Warrior Pope + The Malefic Grip + Woodland Creatures, Thursday 27th April 2023:

Maybe the 3rd time I seen The Malefic Grip live, regardless again the room was packed and it was a fantastic night!! This venue is perfect for the band and their sound, they had the crowd in the palm of their hands with songs that are both heavy and hypnotic in their tone. It felt like the band were slowly stepping towards me as the music gradually gains in volume, it was incredibly intense.

Overall, I love this band and they’ve got a great foundation to build upon with incredible potential. They have a lot of special moments in their sound and I hope that more people here them as they put everything into their art.

Virek was once the son of one of the greatest consulting detectives in the United States. However after suffering a tragic accident, his mother went missing when he was only six. He has reason to believe someone had killed her, though at the time did not have enough evidence. So, he decided to let it go.

He was the taken in by Naoya Asano— One of Japan’s most famous politicians, specialising in scientific research. Virek was grateful to not have been on the streets after being orphaned. After age ten though, and seeing more of Naoya’s personality, Virek’s opinion of this man quickly changed. Thus, he began preparations to run. And at age eighteen, finally ran away from home.

Given that Naoya’s residence was on a remote island— The closest location to Virek was Japan. His identity was promptly changed— Altering his appearance, changing his name, etc…— and he enrolled at Ryotei Academy in Kaminashi City. His current way of earning money is, unfortunately, thievery; as well as taking on jobs similar to that of his mothers; it was easy for him, given his extreme intelligence.

Virek, however, had walked right into a situation he had no business being in. And whether he knew it or not, began creating ripples of chaos in the plans of others. A true wave of mayhem, in a once peaceful city.

Can indulge with anyone, and is respectful: She'd love to make friends or teammates! It doesn't mean she doesn't give importance to anyone, but she especially bonds a lot with Soap. They two have been childhood friends since the start and everyone notices how close they both are and thinks if they two are a couple. Even if Soap is her best friend and he has a superior rank, she'd still respect him as her Captain. But sure, personally, they two engage like they used to.

Very empathetic: Whether it's a random person or not who is dying in her arms, it breaks her. It happened once when she tried to save a person who was losing their life and in the end they couldn't make it. It makes her want to blame herself a bit, thinking she didn't do her duty right, even if everything wasn't in her power. Also, if she sees anyone in distress, she's able to console and help them in time of need, the reason why Scarlet is able to sympathise and understand others well.

BACKGROUND STORY

Born as Samantha Wright, she lives in a small town in England with her father, Albert Wright, who is a former SAS-soldier under the codename "Bolt", and mother Elizabeth. When Scarlet was a toddler, she used to hear stories from her father about him working in Special Air Services, an elite special forces unit, and retired the day when his one leg was brutally injured that made him unable to walk or run.

Those stories gave Scarlet an idea to also join the SAS like him, but her father chuckled and said that right now she was too young to do so. Sometime later, she met John MacTavish, who recently moved into her neighbourhood from Scotland, but wasn't happy that he shifted away from his homeland. She wanted John to be her friend, and make him familiar with the surroundings so he'll get used to everything and love staying at his new home. And soon, they two grew closer, and became best friends.

They two had a similar goal — to join the defense. And one day, that day had to come between the two, when John had to leave for military school. Bidding her best friend a bittersweet farewell, unsure what future has for them in between, John encouraged her to follow her dreams. Taking that as a motivation, Scarlet kept John close to heart, while continuing her aspiration to join the SAS.

Her father got to know about her plan, saying that it won't be easy, since the SAS had the toughest selection processes. That sure unsettled her for a while, but didn't make her back off from her decision respectively. Instead, she learnt a couple of exercises, tips and tricks on self-defense from him that mentally and physically prepared her fully at the same time.

When she recruited herself in the selection process, it was an absolutely different experience for her. The way her mind drastically changed during the training quite traumatized and scared her, knowing what it feels to be in the SAS. But, keeping her father's words by her side, she didn't let the weakness and fear sink her in and moved on further. At times, she was ridiculed by others that she'd never be able to complete the process, but chuckled it all out instead.

The day came, when her hard work paid off, and she finally became eligible for the special forces. It was a blessed feeling for her, as if luck always stood by her side. And this is where, her journey begins..
