The last of my current batch of Roll for Doodle episodes. I really enjoyed working on this one because I've always had a soft spot for Nancy Drew. I used to read the books a ton as a kid until our local library stopped stocking them. I've since begun collecting some of them, though this piece was specifically made in reference to the Her Interactive game (an original story based on the ND brand rather than on one of the original books). A couple people, despite my best attempts still have funky looking eyes (I'm looking at you Ned and George), but I can accept that.

The big story in the SFF world last week was Clarkesworld's announcement that they were being flooded with AI spam and had to temporarily close submissions. So for WIRED, I talked to EIC Neil Clarke about what's actually been going on, as well as LD Lewis of FIYAH Magazine of Black Speculative Fiction and Matt Kresell, the developer of Moksha, the submission software used by lots of SFF publications (including Tor, Uncanny Magazine, Strange Horizons).

They discussed the ways they're thinking about dealing with a host problems around AI submissions—and I was struck by how practical and measured they all were, which was reassuring! Because a lot of writers (in SFF and beyond) are rightfully freaking out right now. I was also struck by how they all stressed those solutions can't create new barriers that would hurt marginalized authors in particular—that commitment to openness/accessibility feels really important.

Yet another break from pokemon. This time with DRAGONS.

After using PS 5.5 for a long time from school, and that version getting old while I had no intention of ever paying a subscription, I started branching out to other programs. These are the first pieces I did on Krita, which is my main software to use now. They are excellent examples of putting the shading in an overlay layer NOT the colors. The top make said mistake with the colors in overlay (And I think loses a lot of saturation because of it.) The bottom has the shading layer as the overlay on top of colors... But hey. It’s also a matter of taste.
