척추 협착증은 허리 수술을 받게 되는 손꼽는 이유 중 하나 입니다 하지만 수술을 받아도 별로 좋아진게 없다고 하는 환자도 많습니다 그래서 수술을 해야 할 환자와 안해야 할 환자를 구분하는게 의사의 중요한 고민 중 하나였는데요 노르웨이에서 11873명의 환자를 대상으로 척추 협착증 수술 후 12개월 뒤에 환자들의 통증과 기능적 증상이 좋아졌는지 안 좋아졌는지 조사하는 전향적 연구를 하였다고 합니다 그 결과 33.2%의 환자가 증상의 호전이 없고 그대로라고 하였고 21.6%에서는 수술 후에 오히려 증상이 안좋아졌다고 하였다고 합니다 수술 후 증상 개선의 실패와 악화의 가장 강력한 예측인자는 12개월 이상의 요통 기간, 이전 척추 수술 과거력, 70세 이상의 연령이었다고 하며 교육 수준이 낮거나, 혼자 사는 독거노인의 경우, 장애 수당을 받는 환자의 경우 증상 개선 실패의 가능성이 높아졌다고 합니다. Spinal stenosis is a top reason for back surgery, but many patients don't see much improvement after. A prospective study was conducted in Norway, which surveyed 11,873 patients with spinal stenosis 12 months after surgery to determine whether their pain and functional symptoms had improved or worsened. The results showed that 33.2% of patients reported no improvement in symptoms and 21.6% reported that their symptoms had worsened after surgery. Predictors of failure to improve or worsening symptoms after surgery include back pain lasting over 12 months, previous spinal surgery, age above 70 years, low education, living alone, and receiving disability benefits.
