one thing that continues to plague my thoughts about AI “art” is how quickly non-artists accept it as some form of expression. It’s a reflection of the societal norm that art is wholly unnecessary unless created for maximum profit gain, yet techbros FLOCK to the idea of a computer generating an entirely “new” image, a Frankenstein mimicry pulled from pre-existing works uploaded to the internet by actual people, based off of a few key words they feed into the program. They call it revolutionary. They call it accessible. They call it groundbreaking. Art has always been accessible. Everyone has had the proper tools to become an artist since birth, no matter what background one might have come from. Non-artists crave a sense of accomplishment, of creating something big, of being the cause of something downright spectacular. But art is hard. No one has the time to pour into an activity and build upon a skillset that takes years to even get a handle on. Art takes a certain amount of discipline, and people don’t like that. The fruits of their creative labor cannot be seen as quickly as they want, and in an industry that pushes the pursuit of greater profit with the least amount of time and effort put in, art just cant catch up.
AI “art” will not satisfy you. It will not make you look smart. It is not groundbreaking. That hole in your chest that craves that creative outlet, that needs that gratification--it will never be filled with AI. Those images your machine is vomiting will never amount to anything and you will never be an artist. Because being an artist requires discipline, passion, and most of all: emotional connection. Being an artist requires you putting a part of yourself into your craft, and doing it for the purpose of passion and not monetary gain. Being an artist requires work, and loving that work. AI cannot, and will never produce art

If you're still doing the ship opinions, could you do jet/katara?
I think they’ve grown on me bc when I was a kid I was just like “katara can do so much better 😤” (and that’s true!) but I also think what he means to katara (whether or not he truly lives up to her image of him in her mind) is really interesting. like something that I think is really crucial to understand about their relationship is the fact that the reason she feels betrayed by him isn’t because he’s “a bad revolutionary” but because he treated her like a naive child and lied to her face about his methods, manipulated her into trusting him by exploiting her tendency to dismiss sokka, tried to kill her brother (which is something she immediately understands judging by the way her eyes well with tears as she asks “where’s sokka”), and played her for a fool. “I trusted you, you’re sick and I trusted you.” yes she takes issue with his methods, but she mostly hates that she trusted someone who didn’t deserve it and didn’t truly respect her.
she hates putting her faith in someone and being taken advantage of, especially because it’s one of the points that sokka is especially condescending towards her about, and she always wants to be proven right in their arguments (which is natural, who doesn’t), so the fact that sokka is usually right when it comes to reading people is particularly infuriating. and it’s especially egregious in this circumstance, because katara’s trust in jet over sokka is what directly led to jet killing sokka (or at least, the attempt to). in her pursuit of winning the lifelong argument against her brother, she nearly got her brother killed. so jet is interesting insofar as he informs katara and sokka’s dynamic, and also as he reflects a major part of katara’s psychology as someone who genuinely wants to form connections with others over shared trauma, which is an incredibly noble and beautiful tendency of hers.
I think the way he sweeps her off her feet (literally) is kind of adorable, not because he’s a likable love interest (imo), but because her reaction is nonetheless very cute. the ugly ass hat she makes him after they kissed (offscreen, but canonically) is soo precious to me I think about that all the time (and the fact that aang is also the one who ends up wearing it…. my heart). and her reaction when they reunite later is fascinating, because even though it’s in such a different context and jet is literally brainwashed, katara acts like a scorned lover while sokka (number one jet hater in the world) approaches the situation in a more detached and logical way. it’s clear that her feelings for jet were incredibly strong, and the terror and guilt she felt over nearly letting sokka die at his hands has stayed with her and impacted in a very profound way, whereas sokka never actually felt like he jet had his life in his hands because he always knew that jet was a con artist who doesn’t really pose a threat to him.
but katara actually held a lot of respect for him, and he betrayed that trust and shattered her admiration irreparably. and then, of course, he nearly redeems himself, helps her in a major way, and dies in her arms. she cannot save him, and suddenly whatever could have been is gone not because he failed her, but because she failed him. and it’s subtle, and hardly mentioned, but I do think the trauma of that, in both instances, really informs katara’s perspective in many key ways, if not consciously, then subconsciously. it informs how she reacts to aang’s death only a few weeks later, and it informs her anger at zuko when he betrays her. jet is a key player in katara’s life and how she approaches her relationships going forward, and for that, he cannot be discounted.

Deep in my feelings about all the ways Crowley loves Aziraphale. We know he loves his big heart and intelligence and sparkiness and tendancy to sass, but I don't think I've ever fully appreciated just how much Crowley admires Aziraphale's unpredictablility.
Aziraphale likes to think he's a sturdy moral compass and he moves at an absolute snails pace most of the time, but every once in a while he will do something so spontaneously bananas, so batshit-out-of-the-galaxy left field that Crowley is left both stunned and utterly delighted. Examples include blowing up his halo and almost starting a war, deciding to go to revolutionary France because he fancied some crepes, voluntarily performing a death defying magic trick, and of course the classic original - giving away his god-given flaming sword to save humanity.
Sometimes these are inconsequential choices, but often these decisions are brave and in the pursuit of a noble cause and I think Crowley secretly adores that about Aziraphale. Loves that sometimes he just throws caution to the wind for the things he's passionate about. Which, ironically, may be exactly the thing that's now torn them apart.....

This may differ slightly from my usual missives about playing the violin and new musicians to be aware of (Haydn and Boccerini are to be highly recommended, especially the latter is as yet little known in these parts, though very innovative in his compositions), but I feel I can no longer withhold what troubles me, and have no other place to speak of it:

“Look at you, so handsome! Somebody gave you good genes, huh?” Arms wrapped around his back, a chin landed on his shoulder. Crocodile snorted.
“Hope you’re not referring to yourself, uggo.” Dragon laughed, peppering Crocodile with kisses, ignoring the performative disgust that followed.
“Never, Wani.”

It couldn’t be the truth. Crocodile raged on, reckless in his pursuit of Whitebeard. He could barely respond, barely think when that annoying pink bird intervened in his fight. In his head all he could hear was a mad chorus of denial, slamming against the walls of his skull.
“What did we do for the heavens to send down the sun itself?” Crocodile rolled his eyes at Dragon’s attempted poetic ramblings. “Well, at the very least you certainly didn’t get your joyful nature from your mother.”
He shouldn’t care, he had buried that loss long ago. He had given his sunshine to Dragon, and he had never let affection or love rule him since. It shouldn’t matter now, but denial could only get him so far. Deep down, a vicious instinct had already reared it’s ugly head, all gnashing teeth and throat rending screams. Crocodile was made servant to its calls.
My baby, my baby, my baby!
When the blades were ready to land on Fire Fist’s neck, he succumbed. His son had been through enough. He wouldn’t let anything else happen to him. The executioners were dead long before their bodies hit the ground beneath the scaffold.
“Crocodile!” Sengoku’s dismay was written all over his face, sounded in the sharp intonation of his voice. Crocodile couldn’t bring himself to care much. He rolled his eyes, and gave some vague excuse of not wanting Sengoku to win. A truth perhaps, but not the truth. The navy certainly didn’t need to know that Monkey D. Luffy’s bloodline was criminal on two fronts.
Doflamingo also took offense, although Crocodile knew he didn’t care if the Government had their way or not.
“Oh come on, Croc!” He heard as his head fell off of his shoulders. “You rejected me and now you’re joining Whitebeard? I’m jealous!” Crocodile scoffed once he had a mouth to do it with, his head rebuilt.
“I’m not joining anyone.” Not anyone he wanted Doflamingo to focus on, at least.
The battle raged on, his son at the center of it all. Enemy after enemy piled on, seeking to be the one who took out the Revolutionary’s son. But for as many adversaries he attracted, he lured in allies just as effectively. It was a trait Crocodile found irritating, when he had fought the kid. He had arrived in Alabasta, Princess already in tow and wrecked years of planning like it was nothing. In the wake of this revelation, he couldn’t be surprised. How could he complain of being burned when he had stood in the path of the sun?
“Mr. One!” He barked out, turning to his right hand man. “Keep an eye on Straw Hat.” An order he was thankful he gave, when only a few minutes later Mihawk raised his blade to Luffy. Daz blocked his path, but only for a moment. Thankfully a moment was all Crocodile needed to catch up with his son. He shielded Luffy from Mihawk’s second swing, his hook and Yoru screeching as they collided.
He wanted to pull Luffy away, to take him and run. He knew how foolish it would be though. The kid’s enemies and allies alike would target him, and Luffy himself would be fighting. So he swallowed his bile and watched as the battle raged on, as Luffy lost everything. As Crocodile failed to protect his baby, again.
His heart clenched as he heard his son’s wails. His baby screamed in agony, and if Sengoku’s announcement hadn’t clued him in he thought that cry would.
“Shh, it’s okay baby. I’ve got you.” Crocodile looked down at the little bundle, barely bigger than his hands. He watched in fascination as the wails died down and his baby smiled up at him. His face wasn’t one known for its calming effect, but the baby didn’t seem aware of that.
Luffy would find no comfort in him now, but that didn’t matter. All that mattered was getting him out safe, alive. He could atone later, he could hand his son the world on a platter, but only if he made it out alive. A scream tore itself from Crocodile’s throat, his cool demeanor shattered as Akainu punched through Jinbe and into his son. He hurled himself forward, knowing nothing but the war drums of blood pounding in his ears.
He blocked Akainu’s second attack, and turned to his son. He was lost to his shock, completely unconscious. His body was limp in Jinbe’s arms. All Crocodile wanted to do was take him and cradle his baby like he hadn’t in seventeen years. Instead he whipped his hand out towards them, throwing a sandstorm with it.
“Sables!” He cried out, turning towards their retreating allies. “Somebody catch them and put them on the ship!” He turned towards Jinbe then, locking eyes with the fellow ex-Warlord. “If you want to protect something, do it right! Don’t let them have my son!” Crocodile’s eyes widened at the same time as Jinbe’s, realizing what he’d said. What he let slip in the heat of his rage. He whipped his head towards Akainu, but thank whatever Gods were watching the Admiral was dealing with several other allies. No one else had heard.
Luffy and Jinbe eventually made it to the Submarine of another new pirate. The Surgeon of Death. Not the most comforting name, but Crocodile would have to accept it. He saw Luffy’s injuries. They needed treatment right away, there was no time to find anyone else.
Once the submarine disappeared, it was time to leave. Crocodile shifted through the battlefield, locating Daz and making his escape. There was a lot of work to be done, if he wanted to gift the world to the sun.

as a black woman who is ace, I don’t think sydney being asexual would be revolutionary or interesting. it would actually be so incredibly, hugely, profoundly... boringggggg. and people who insist on sydney being asexual get a massive side eye from me. especially white asexuals, because fuck your representation, and cishet people because who the fuck are y’all? 
so rarely are black women in tv and film treated with respect and nuance, much less when it comes to romance. so rarely are we treated as a person to be desired. to be loved. openly. warmly. carnally. even less so when it’s a darkskin black woman. writers pick from one of two things when it comes to black female characters: hypersexualized vs desexualized. superficially, for all outward appearances, there are lots of asexual black women in media. that is to say, they are certainly almost treated that way. unintentionally. intentionally. maliciously. void of sexuality or sensuality. no romance because she’s a Strong Black Woman who doesn’t need a man. or a relationship so pathetic that it can hardly be called a romance. would it be nice to have an asexual black female character who has a storyline that treats asexuality with respect? yes, yes it would. but that’s not really the point of this increasingly wordy essay. if the creators/writers are to be taken at their word that sydcarmy is strictly platonic, and they had her reject marcus because he misread their interactions, then it just shows they’ve developed nothing for sydney romantically. all the shots of carmy looking at her like she hung the moon and the stars are simply because she's his #bro. marcus really only liked her for her personality and simply confused that for romantic longing. platonic connections and a one-sided pursuit with zero heat. how groundbreaking. 
every fucking white character can have all of the romance-related things though. they can kiss each other, be shown as desirable, etc. etc. nat can be cuddled and cherished by pete. richie can go on dates in a nice suit with dirt caked under his nails, be loving with his then-wife, and ostensibly be wanted by jess. tiffany can still be yearned for by her ex-husband as she prepares to marry a new one. carmy can skip around like he’s in a romcom while neglecting his responsibilities to make out with claire and call her beautiful. claire can be shot in soft, dreamy sequences with closeups of her face and have a convo with her ass out for no reason other than to say she’s desirable and fucked carmy. claire and carmy can have screentime set aside for their relationship and a tender lovemaking scene. it’s expected for white people. it’s the norm. no romantic love for sydney though. because she’s driven. because she deserves better. because romance is unimportant. because she wants that star. because she can have no distractions. because asexual. because representation. [audience cheering]
sydney being a lesbian would also bore me immensely. too often are black female characters treated by writers as russian dolls with every diversity point they can think of. books, comics, tv, film, etc. she’s black, she's lesbian, she’s trans, she’s disabled, she’s poor, she’s this, she’s that. the diversity and representation everyone wants. why is every other character surrounding this ~pinnacle of diversity~ straight, or white, or a man? yes, because that’s who’s mainly writing and casting and greenlighting these things and maybe it’s silly to expect otherwise, but still, what the fuck? congrats on being represented by this fictional character. but it doesn’t feel genuine; it feels spiteful and lazy and self-congratulatory. like where's the other black women and diverse characters lmao. to be clear, I do want to see all the black lesbians in media because there's still not very many. and black women with one, or two, or all of those “diversity points” do exist in real life. we are lesbians, we are bi, we are disabled, we are trans. we're all of those and more. and we are loved and adored. on screen? maybe with a nonexistent or poor romantic storyline. or perhaps a decent and maybe even good storyline that eventually crashes and burns. there's a popular twitter thread right now about the disposable black gf trope and the examples that keep pouring in are bleak af.
the black lesbian character headcanon/canon increasingly feels like just another way to fridge us romantically. #notalllesbiantruthers but too many tbh. a black female character will simply exist without uttering a word and a slew of white women will be there to loudly proclaim her as the lesbian representation they want, need, crave, and adore. especially if there’s zero indication of the character being a lesbian. just stereotypes and vibes. hollow, insincere proclamations. bi black women don't even exist in their world. all these things I’ve observed with sydney. she's a bro, she's butch, she's a top, she's so husband-coded. babygirl is only reserved for the most woeful, pitiful white male characters. it's hilariously #coded. and no one will push back because after all, any gay representation is a good thing.
you’ll see hit tweets about how they know deep down sydney's a lesbian or how it will be so funny when the writers make her one. really, why is that? she can't be bi lest she actually gets with carmy. carmy can't be gay because they want to fuck him too badly. yeah I’m not so convinced all the lesbian sydney truthers earnestly want to see her loved, adored, cuddled, kissed, or fucked by another woman. because would that really be the writers’ objective or finished product? or will they just make her a lesbian and pat themselves on the back for doing only that. a throwaway line? maybe give her a cute romance built largely off-screen? lesbian sydney is a win for diversity and that’s enough. and who really wants to see sydney loved on loudly or be sexual anyway? that's not who she really is! she wears minimal makeup and oversized shirts and sweaters. let’s just focus on her working herself to the bone and getting that star. and I think deep down a lot of these truthers know her storyline possibly wouldn't be done justice. that's why it's going to be so funny to them when they make her one.
it all feels so shallow. fanfiction of sydney x fem!reader or original female character or nayia (the gorgiana black chef from s02ep03) is quite literally nonexistent [!!!]. sorry, y'all are not progressive or galaxy-brained. we get a black female character who’s multifaceted and fascinating, a deuteragonist even, in a show with a fandom that barely considers her as a person, and you’ve set your grubby paws upon her to be shelved romantically. bffr, the writers are already flailing romance-wise when it comes to sydney; they would not do an asexual/lesbian storyline justice. and even if they somehow make a halfway decent attempt, maybe they should have made it clear from the very beginning. not in season 3 or 4 or 5 or wheneverthefuck after they’ve given all the white characters romantic angles and developed her strongest and most important relationship with carmy, the main white guy or possibly because they hate the fact that people ship her with the main white guy. because then it just feels reactionary. and spiteful. and lazy. anyway, this ended up being way longer than I wanted. thanks for reading. fin.

Hello, recently you answered an ask about how Hamilton reacted to the Hamilton-Madison fallout, and one of the things you said was "These men were very crucial figures in American law, which shows that, unlike men like Jefferson, he [Hamilton] was very selective in who he chose to associate with when it came to his work."
Was Jefferson particularly indiscriminate when it came to finding collaborators, or was Hamilton particularly selective (or a little bit of both)? Could you provide some examples for this contrast?
hello first of all, the structure of your ask had me literally salivating screaming crying on the floor because this is such a wonderfully structured ask and it is the perfect formula to get an in depth response bc there’s so much i could talk about here. i love you. anyway-
Let's break this down to each dude. First, the worst dude, Thomas "freak" Jefferson. Jefferson's political career began when he joined the House of Burgesses, which, as the name implies, is a house of Burges (its a legislature). His first major publication was A Summary View of the Rights of British America, a Revolutionary work of literature that called King George III a cunt in formal language, was done entirely by himself, and it was rejected by his contemporaries for being too radical. This gained him a reputation for being a blue haired liberal.

Jefferson would go on to write The Causes and Necessity of Taking up Arms with John Dickinson in July, 1775 to, yk, explain the causes and necessity of taking up arms against the British. John Dickinson was a very well known politician, being a member of the Continental Congress and one of the elite group of Americans who had the chance to be educated in England. Both Jefferson and Dickinson were known revolutionary voices, despite the differences of opinion that would arise between them in the following debate on independence. They were also both members of the Second Continental Congress.

The question of why Jefferson worked with Dickinson is most relevant to this ask. And the answer, in my opinion, is just because it was convenient. The Continental Congress was the best- "best"- men of each state coming together to represent their respective homelands. Dickinson and Jefferson most likely had conversations about the subject they would go on to write about, and decided to write it down and publish it for public benefit. We'll come back to this later.
Okay, now the elephant in the room: the Declaration of Independence. I find this subject so boring so bear with me. Jefferson was chosen by the Declaration committee (consisting of John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Robert Livingston, and Roger Sherman) as he was already known as a Revolutionary writer and one of the best educated of them. He wrote the original draft on his own- well, technically- and then it was edited by the rest of the committee, and then by the rest of Congress.
Oh, but Henry! You said technically! Why? Well, dear reader, I'll tell you, be patient, jesus fucking christ. Jefferson highly based the Declaration off of Richard Henry Lee's resolution calling for independence in the Continental Congress, but mainly off of the philosophies of John Locke. That famous phrase we all know was almost word-for-word the writings of John Locke. I even once wrote an essay on how Jefferson essentially plagiarized John Locke in my sophomore government class.

I think that the Declaration is a pretty good example of how Jefferson, and 18th century American government, usually performed. This famous document was created by committee, and through education on 17th century philosophy. There were not multiple men working on the original draft of this, and the men who did work on it were not selected by Jefferson, and his major works are almost entirely attributed to him alone. He'd go onto write other historical documents such as Notes on Virginia and Anas (which are a more interesting and complex document) in this same form.

He did consult with other men when it came to information and intelligence on political enemies later in his political career. These men were mostly hyper-relevant Democratic Republicans, who tended to be rich, southern landowners (aka slaveholders), at least those who associated with Jefferson. The most iconic of these were, of course, James Madison and James Monroe. Jefferson frequently consulted them, and Monroe (allegedly) gave Jefferson copies of the documents Hamilton showed to him to prove he had not been speculating with James Reynolds, but had actually been sleeping with his wife.

To summarize, Jefferson was not necessarily indiscriminate with who he associated with, and he didn't even really work that much with other men on his major writings. However, we can see a definitive pattern of Jefferson only really associating with other members of his class, neither below or above him. And this just very simply makes sense. Jefferson, as did the rest of the 18th century, believed that there shouldn't be any cross contamination between the social classes. He also believed that the only really smart people were in his class. And he wasn't aggressive about this, it's just a passive belief due to the way society was structured.
UNTIL!
Alexander Hamilton was literally opposite to Jefferson in every sociocultural way. In Jefferson's eyes he was an ambitious upstart who rose through the ranks, defying the social order that kept society from collapsing.
You'll hear a lot of people say that in forming America, the Founding Fathers had undone this rigid social class system, but that really isn't true. The class system in Europe was entirely different than the one that developed in America, but it still definitely existed in some form. Without the court system, America formed a loose sort of aristocracy that depended on land ownership and/or success in the mercantile business. In Europe, you'd see members of the clergy having their own class, but in America, it was entirely based on wealth, and less on birthright, but if your parents were not wealthy, the only way you could become wealthy was by getting in on some kind of get-rich-quick scheme, like owning a plantation or being a lawyer.
What made Hamilton different from this was that Jefferson, and other enemies, could literally watch in real time as he rose through the ranks. He could see him go from a captain in the artillery, known for his bravery in the New York campaign (someone who would eventually be forgotten), to Washington's aide-de-camp (okay... but he'll probably still fade into obscurity), to a member of the Confederation Congress (oh! well, okay, but that doesn't particularly mean anything, this is probably the highest he'll get), to the only New York delegate in town for the Constitutional Convention and the only person from New York to sign it (well that'll get him in the history books...), to the FIRST SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY OF THE NEW US GOVERNMENT (WHAT THE FUCK HOW DID HE FUCKING DO THAT WHAT THE FUCK GET HIM OUT).

So, let's talk about Hamilton's political career now, specifically through tracking his writings.
One thing the musical gets right is that Hamilton DEFINITELY utilized anonymous pamphlet publishing throughout his political career. And these are some of my favorite documents ever. From A Farmer Refuted to The Monitor to The Publius Letters to Pacificus, Hamilton absolute served irreparable cunt in all of these writings, and there are more than what I've listed, I just haven't finished my chronological list of Hamilton's published works.

All of these anonymous publishings had some things in common that I've used to categorize them:
A target (usually a person he didn't like and thought was immoral)
A core lesson (typically a political stance he was taking at the time that he wanted to defend and garner support for publically)
A newspaper publisher that was symbolic or strategically important in some way (either an enemy newspaper, and up-and-coming newspaper, an old friend's newspaper, etc.)
multiple editions
2-3 coauthors/beta readers
Almost each one of these publications follows this pattern, though number 5 tends to be the least common among all of them. But, since his college days, Hamilton would ask for his friends' input on his writings (whether or not he accepted their advice is not confirmed). Before he would give his college-era speeches, he would consult with the small debate group he and his friends made before he gave those speeches. When he was writing The Publius Letters, he most likely consulted with his lover, John Laurens, on the subject matter, as Laurens had close connections with congress, and the target (number 1 on the above list) was Samuel Chase, a congressman who had basically scammed soldiers out of food, causing many to starve for a prolonged period.

Like Jefferson, Hamilton had his magnum opus, and the influence of others played a major role in defining the document. Hamilton would ask other men, including William Duer, and Gouverneur Morris to write this document, but ultimately settled on John Jay and James Madison. This was, of course, The Federalist.
William Duer was related to Hamilton by marriage, as they married a set of cousins. Duer was educated in England and worked for the East India Company, which gave him a very good resume to be one of Hamilton's coauthors. However, the two submissions Duer made for The Federalist were rejected. Gouverneur Morris was a blue-blooded politician who gave the most speeches at the Constitutional Convention, a whopping 173. He spoke multiple languages and had been educated at King's College, which is now the ivy league Columbia. Morris was too busy to contribute to the project.
John Jay was the first coauthor selected. He had been the main draftsman of the New York State Constitution, a negotiator of the Treaty of Paris (1783), and was another alumni of King's College. He later became the first chief justice of the United States Supreme Court, and negotiate a treaty with Great Britain. Hamilton often called on him in regards to political matters, and the two were close, lifelong allies. Jay only wrote five of the 85 Federalist essays, because he was hit in the head with a fucking brick during the Cadaver Riots.

The other principal author of The Federalist was James Madison. James Madison, in my opinion, was the most qualified to write The Federalist, despite his later delusions about the Constitution (which were largely the result of Jefferson's influence on his opinion but that's neither here nor there). James Madison was educated at what was considered the greatest educational institute in 18th century America: Princeton (then called the College of New Jersey). Madison was the reason Hamilton wasn't able to take an expedited course to his degree, because Madison had attempted to finish his four year education in two years, and had a nervous breakdown... fun fact...
But, still, he got his law degree from Princeton, and was in several legislatures, including the Virginia Governor's council where he met Jefferson. And of course, he was the author of the Virginia Plan, which was the foundation of the US Constitution of 1787. His notes on the Constitutional Convention are the most complete set of notes, and he was there every fucking day. So yeah, James Madison knew the Constitution pretty well, even if he eventually cared too much about states' rights to recognize what was blatantly written in the Constitution, and maintained that viewpoint until his presidency.

The Federalist was not as evenly divided between the authors as Hamilton intended, since he could not shut the fuck up, but that's not the point. The point is that the men he sought to be his coauthors had several things in common: they attended prestigious educational institutions and had long histories of Revolutionary work. Reading of these men's person histories reads like you're going through a company's qualifications for their employees. Because it almost was except they weren't getting paid. Hamilton sought out these men based on their qualifications, and, as you can see by William Duer's rejected submissions, he had a high standard that they had to fit for him to affix his name next to theirs (which he didn't do until the weeks leading up to his death because he knew he was gonna die but that's a topic for another time).

This pattern of finding qualified contributors to his works continued throughout his life. Now, idk if you know this, but Hamilton was actually planning another The Federalist-style publication right before his death and i am LITERALLY SO EXCITED TO TALK ABOUT THIS
Hamilton told his visiting friend James Kent that he wanted to look through all of history and analyze government and the various forms it took throughout all of written history. Mirroring The Federalist, he intended to invite six to eight authors, including John Jay, Gouverneur Morris, Rufus King, John M. Mason, and James Kent. He thought that each of these men would write about the subjects in which they specialized (Kent on law, Mason on theological history, etc.) Hamilton would be in charge of writing a synthesis on the previous volumes.

As you can imagine, these additional dudes followed the pattern shown above for Hamilton's qualifications for his coauthors, especially for a project this big. I mean, if this could have happened, it would have been literally incredible. I did the calculations, and it would have taken Hamilton five years after 1804 to get rid of all of his debts. If he had lived for that length of time, he could have started on this project, and alleviated the debts that later plagued his family. But that ties into my other theories on Hamilton's death, and that is just too weighty of a subject to get into in a post that's already this long.
To wrap this all up, the conclusion we can draw here is really just related to the class differences between Hamilton and Jefferson. Alexander Hamilton was not bound by a lack of social mobility in the 18th century, since he completely decimated that concept by his existence, which allowed him to view his co-contributors more objectively and more selectively. He handpicked those who he worked closely with based on their qualifications and their experience. His categorization of their abilities in that last example shows that he specifically sought them to speak on subjects they were most acquainted with.
Jefferson, on the other hand, didn't have that kind of social mobility, nor did he desire it. Jefferson stuck with his peers, who were mostly all lawyers of the same religion and political beliefs. While I'm not saying Hamilton was going around and writing alongside Democratic Republicans, he certainly didn't pick those he worked with based on like-mindedness or status. He chose them entirely on the basis of their revolutionary resumes, and that is really the difference we see in these two men's respective political careers. Was that the reason Jefferson was president and Hamilton wasn't? Definitely not. Was that the reason they didn't get along? Well, it certainly didn't make them like each other. Does it make Hamilton smarter? No, surprisingly. Do I like Hamilton more because of this? No comment.
I know this is lengthy, but I've literally been brewing up historical theory in my head for the past six months without having any outlet for it besides ranting at my parents and scribbling in the margins of Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow (as you can tell by my sources). I genuinely cannot say how much I appreciate this kind of question, because it not only gets me thinking, but it allows me to remember why I got into history in the first place, and why I want to spend the rest of my life educating people on the wonderous world of pussy politics between middle aged men that are so decomposed, the matter that made up their bald ass heads is probably in your drinking water (have fun thinking about that). Happy anniversary of Willem Van Spronsen's attack on the Tacoma ICE detention center. Here's a thing I drew a while back. Here's a manifesto that he wrote, it's v good. ------
What follows is the written manifesto of Willem Van Spronsen:
there's wrong and there's right. it's time to take action against the forces of evil. evil says one life is worth less than another. evil says the flow of commerce is our purpose here. evil says concentration camps for folks deemed lesser are necessary. the handmaid of evil says the concentration camps should be more humane. beware the centrist.
i have a father's broken heart i have a broken down body and i have an unshakable abhorrence of injustice. that is what brings me here. this is my clear opportunity to try to make a difference, i'd be an ingrate to be waiting for a more obvious invitation.
i follow three teachers: don pritts, my spiritual guide, "love without action is just a word." john brown, my moral guide, "what is needed is action!" emma goldman, my political guide, "if i can't dance, i don't want to be in your revolution."

fascism serves the needs of the state serves the needs of business and at your expense. who benefits? jeff bezos, warren buffet, elon musk, tim cook, bill gates, betsy de vos, george soros, and need i go on? let me say it again: rich guys, (who think you're not really all that good,) really dig government, (every government everywhere, including "communist" governments,) because they make rules that make rich guys richer.

when i was a boy, in post war holland, later france, my head was filled with stories of the rise of fascism in the 30's. i promised myself that i would not be one of those who stands by as neighbors are torn from their homes and imprisoned for somehow being perceived as lesser. you don't have to burn the motherfucker down, but are you just going to stand by?
this is the test of our fundamental belief in real freedom and our responsibility to each other. this is a call to patriots, too, to stand against this travesty against everything that you hold sacred. i know you. i know that in your hearts, you see the dishonor in these camps. it's time for you, too, to stand up to the money pulling the strings of every goddamn puppet pretending to represent us.

i'm a black and white thinker. detention camps are an abomination. i'm not standing by. i really shouldn't have to say any more than this.
i set aside my broken heart and i heal the only way i know how- by being useful. i efficiently compartmentalize my pain... and i joyfully go about this work. (to those burdened with the wreckage from my actions, i hope that you will make the best use of that burden.)

As he entered his lab, the heart of his revolutionary research, he couldn't shake the lingering thought of you. He settled into his routine, slipping on his goggles, his focus on the complex equipment and intricate hex crystals that lay before him. He was driven by a vision of changing the world, of proving that science had the power to transform lives and offer tangible solutions to those who believed.
Just as he was about to lose himself in his work, the door swung open, and Jayce walked in – his one and only companion, the unwavering supporter of Viktor's ambitious endeavors. However, today Jayce's expression was far from pleased. "What is your deal, Viktor?" he demanded, his frustration evident.
Viktor huffed, readying himself for the impending conversation. "She's done nothing to you, and you're treating her like-… like she's some kind of a puppy-killer! What's your problem?"
"She might as well be," Viktor retorted, his voice carrying a mix of annoyance and conviction. "All that herbal nonsense, it's a waste of time and a mockery of real science."
Jayce's brows furrowed in disbelief. "Viktor, she's tried to be friendly, and you're shutting her down at every turn. The incident with the basket? That was completely uncalled for."
Viktor's gaze turned cold. "She's a purveyor of false hope. I don't need her sympathy, and I certainly don't need her so-called remedies."
Jayce's frustration reached its peak as he locked eyes with his stubborn friend. They argued back and forth, with Jayce attempting to reason and Viktor standing his ground with unwavering determination. "You're pushing people away, Viktor. You're doing yourself a disservice by isolating yourself like this."
"I don't need her. " Viktor snapped, his tone icy. "Now, if you're quite finished, I have actual work to do."
Defeated, Jayce sighed heavily, a sense of hopelessness washing over him. He had tried to bridge the gap, to get through to Viktor, but it seemed impossible. With a final, resigned "fine," Jayce took a seat nearby and picked up his own tools. The sound of soldering irons and machinery filled the lab, a stark contrast to the underlying tension that remained.
In the midst of their separate pursuits, Viktor buried himself in his research, fueled by a need to prove himself right and change the world. Jayce, on the other hand, worked beside him, torn between loyalty to his friend and a growing sense of frustration. The chapter of understanding and reconciliation had closed abruptly, leaving a rift that seemed impossible to mend.
A week had passed since your futile attempt at reconciliation with Viktor. As you walked by him in the hallway, you couldn't bring yourself to glance his way anymore. The polite nods and exchanges you once shared had vanished, replaced by an icy silence that seemed to be your new norm.

Guilt tugged at you, a reminder that this wasn't who you were. You had never been one to be mean or callous, but the walls you had built were strong, fueled by the hurt he had caused. Why should you waste your love and kindness on someone so resistant to it?
You reached your clinic, where eager customers were already lined up outside. As you opened your doors, a wave of satisfaction washed over you. Today was about something positive – introducing your new line of herbal goat milk soaps. With a genuine smile, you greeted each customer, explaining the benefits of your products, and basking in the warmth of their enthusiasm.
