So it looks like the sun is finally setting on #RenewAsACrew and #SaveOFMDCrew is taking their place. I'm going to include their infographics from twitter here. I'm reaching out to them regarding other socials so I'll update this once I have them. One thing I notice from reading through all this is that these folks are using our #SaveOFMD hashtag that we've been using along with #RenewAsACrew to help keep the brand up, which is great! I know that was something a lot of us were concerned about.

In the UK our focus is mainly on promoting the show since season 2 will arrive here on Monday night. News wise one of our UK fans @LisaHafey wrote this great article for essentially pop ‘Our Flag Means Death’ Set To Make Bittersweet Return To BBC2 Amid Fan Efforts To Find The Show A Safe Harbour No word yet on Wee John Wednesdays start date yet, but he seemed keen to do a podcast afterwards so fingers crossed!

The UK Crew has been working hard tweeting at Netflix and Netflix UK, Amazon Prime and Amazon Prime UK, and Apple TV+ using the following hashtags: #renewasacrew, #saveofmd #adoptourcrew

We have also been tweeting about the UK actors in the show, focusing on the other shows they’ve been in and hoping to gain viewers from other fandoms. SDCC 2023 Recap (Abridged)

Hello! 

This is a funky thing, but welcome to an abridged blog?! This won't usually be the case, but if you want to know more about my time at SDCC, including a couple lightly funny stories and a LOT more pictures, the full thing is up on my Patreon. 

What do you do during SDCC? 

Doing things around the show is very hard! 

I was up by 6 and out of the house before 8 most every day of the show and--while we took it pretty easy with our after con events--besides the shorter Preview Night, they were 12+ hour days! Also complicated by having a friend staying with us, which was lovely, but complicated because we were not on the same schedule!

But what does someone like me do during SDCC? Why would I have 12+ hour days?!

I am at a point, where thankfully, my conventions where I'm working on IDW's behalf are often self-directed. As you can see in a few of these photos, I had the Sonic the Hedgehog: Racing into the 900th Adventure panel that I moderated for IDW on Sunday morning, but most of my other time was spent taking meetings I had set up ahead of time and impromptu meetings that naturally occurred over the course of the show.

Ahead of time, I had set up around 6 meetings a day, with a lighter Wednesday and Sunday. And that's about what I was hitting every day. A few times, due to the natural course of events, things got cancelled at the last minute or folks got trapped in the wrong place and couldn't get to where we were supposed to talk before I had to run to my next commitment, but almost inevitably, those times were then spent talking to other folks.

While I probably can't talk too much about the content of any of these meetings or who all I was talking to, as an editor, I mostly met with creative talent and a couple of licensing partners. To break things down a little bit further, there are a few broad categories most of my editorial meetings fall into: Project-Specific - I want to work with person X on thing Y and this is a chance to meet face-to-face about it; Introductory - Person X and I are aware of each other's work, but haven't previously had a chance to really talk, so this is a chance to get to know each other and for them to share samples; Relationship Management - I, or someone else at IDW, have worked with person X before and would like to again, but maybe don't have a specific project in mind, so this is a chance to catch-up and explore what our options could be, as well as just make sure they know they're on the company's mind. 

And while many of my meetings were very enjoyable because there are a lot of excellent folks working in comics who wanted to make the time, I also got just a little bit of time for my own fun stuff!

Highlights included the Junji Ito exhibit, where I got to see original art pages from the course of like a 40 year career, attending the Best and Worst Manga Panel (which got cut short due to a false fire alarm!) and the Magma Comix panel right afterward, and getting to try the food and enjoy the atmosphere of the Sonic Speed Cafe! And Becca got to meet and get a little sketch from Matt Groening in the booth they were working at!

What I enjoyed this week: Blank Check (Podcast), Craig of the Creek (Cartoon), Honkai Star Rail (Video game) Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Links (Video game), My Adventures with Superman (Cartoon), the beach, The Broken Room by Peter Clines (Book), Crime Scene Kitchen (TV show), Dumbing of Age (Webcomic), SDCC which kept me from most new things!

Monday Night Raw (8/7):

Raquel Rodriguez was shown in the trainer's room with Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae, as the trainer informed Adam Pearce that Raquel still wasn't medically cleared.

Becky Lynch came out to the ring and talked about her match next week with Trish Stratus, before being interrupted by Zoey Stark. As the two exchanged words, Shayna Baszler came out. She said that she had driven Ronda out of WWE, which prompted the crowd to begin chanting "Thank you Shayna." Zoey got in Shayna's face, before a match between the two was made official.

Shayna Baszler defeated Zoey Stark. Despite having a broken thumb, black eye, and injured elbow, Shayna managed to put Zoey down for the three count after using Piper's Pit. match length-11:50.

Shayna Baszler interrupted Becky Lynch during a backstage interview, saying that she had a long list of scores to settle, and that she would come for Becky soon enough.

Michael Cole confirmed on commentary that Sonya Deville has suffered a torn ACL, and that she will be out indefinitely.

As Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley was entering with The Judgment Day for the main event, she was attacked by Raquel, Candice, and Indi. The women brawled, before security finally managed to separate them.

NXT (8/8):

Blair Davenport defeated Kelani Jordan. Kelani argued with Dana Brooke after the match. match length-3:35.

Kiana James defeated Ivy Nile. match length-7:45.

Following the main event match, Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley was attacked by Lyra Valkyria.

AEW Dynamite (8/9):

A four way match for the AEW Women's World Championship at AEW All In was announced, along with a tournament to determine who would compete in that match. Former champion Toni Storm received a bye, automatically qualifying her for the title match.

Hikaru Shida defeated Anna Jay to retain the AEW Women's World Championship. By retaining the title, Shida locked in her spot at AEW All In, where she will defend her title the four way match. match length-8:48.

WWE Main Event (8/10):

Nikki Cross defeated Tegan Nox. match length-7:39.

Friday Night SmackDown (8/11):

Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair ended in a no contest. During the match, WWE Women's Champion Iyo Sky came down the ramp, accompanied by her Damage CTRL teammates Bayley and Dakota Kai. Iyo hit both Asuka and Charlotte with a dropkick off the top rope, forcing the official to call the match a no contest. After the bell rang, Iyo and Bayley beat up both Asuka and Charlotte, while Dakota watched from the ramp. match length-9:01.

NXT Level Up (8/11):

Fallon Henley defeated Izzy Dame. match length-4:31.

AEW Rampage (8/11):

Saraya defeated Skye Blue. With this win, Saraya secured her spot in the four way match for the AEW Women's World Championship at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium in London. match length-9:23.

AEW Collision (8/12):

Mercedes Martinez & Diamante defeated TBS Champion Kris Statlander & Willow Nightingale. match length-8:46.

TMZ reported on Monday afternoon that Sonya Deville sustained a torn ACL last Friday on SmackDown.

On Wednesday, Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley announced her engagement to fellow pro wrestler Buddy Matthews.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter gave the SummerSlam WWE Women's Championship triple threat match a rating of 3.5 stars. The MMA Rules match between Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler received 1.5 stars.

Week 10 week of exhibition! (Recap)

Monday

Trying to figure out how the publication should be structured. How well the images would print onto the paper we got. (we ended up using a different type of paper.)

buying cups for opening as well..

Boring calm before the storm day. Admin and preparation. 

Bought vinyl expecting it to come by the next day.

Tuesday 

a day of nothing and planning mostly. making sure we were rested and all was in order for Wednesday- vinyl didn't arrive

Wednesday 4th Move in day. 

Elena had to get 2 different trailers to move her work as the paintings were too big to put in the first ones and it was a very windy day 

Elenas paintings did not fit through the stairway so they had to be taken apart and put together again in the space. Thankfully her parents were around to help with that. 

Felix’s work was printing Wednesday, so it didn't make it into space till the day after. 

Islas' work all got into the space in one load. And arranged in different ways according to the other works in the space.

Cailin moved all work into space, built a screen for projection, and tested out all possible positions for the projector. Original plan for mounting projector to pillar was unsuccessful due to angles for getting both projection quads (wall and floor) without interruption of peoples head walking in front. Ended up with making a white box for projector to sit on to create a presence for it to avoid foot traffic/H&S hazard. Successfully installed screen for projector, began playing with composition for sculpture/tv/candles. 

Thursday 

Vinyl issues. Our vinyl finally arrived, however it was more transparent than expected, with light still coming through and bubbles showing. We solved this by painting over the vinyl with matte black paint, which blocked out light and hid bubbles

Simon and Will's level 200 figurative painting class came into see our install process at 1:30 on thursday. We were in chaos mode when we saw them. Elenas work was the only thing that was up. Cailins was all turned off and she was trying to drill holes into the concrete, Isla's work was marked and Felix had nothing up yet. We shared the ideas behind the exhibition with the class.

Drilling holes. The holes were a struggle to get drilled, the walls being concrete was the biggest problem. Only because we had no experience in drilling into concrete. We had the drill from mike and the drill form Elena's dad which were very different and both a little complicated to use. 

Friday 

Lights 

Morning putting lights up. After turning all the lights we had been given by Mike on we found that they were all different. Each having different brightnesses, warmths and hues. 

To figure out where we would place the lights, each of us held the lights and aimed to see what looked best for each person's work. 

Cailins work was naturally glowing as it was made from light projections and LED lights. It had a warmer and pinky hue, and orange glow from dotted candles.

 Elena wanted warm lights that had a sunsetty glow so her works needed warmth in the cooler space. As

 Felix's work was on sterile white foam boards; it was better suited to a cooler light so they didn't look yellow and stale. 

Islas work suited either or but to create a balance in and flow within the room we decided she would be better off having a cooler tones light 

Isla and Felix got one light and Elena got two. 

We painted the windows that already had vinyl on black to make them blackout.

- As things do not go to plan. Thank god we were working with Carly, Islas flatmate, who did all the layout and design for the publication. We managed to print 60 of those. Ran out of paper and then by the end of the day was so exhausted and hungry.

Saturday (opening night)

8am was so much rain that 5 buckets of water had to be emptied in half an hour, 

Thankfully the rain subsided.

Elena went to uni to finish publications while Isla worked on getting her lighting right. As she just had the one light and that meant all other work was left in the dark. Torches were needed  and

quick recap of last 10 days: saturday, july 8: brunch with amy. cried. facetime therapy with kelda. cried. lorena’s bday surprise. held it together. reyna was kind enough to invite me and 7 of her friends/plus ones and we surprised lorena for her bday/welcome home at a localish bar. i held back tears but tried to engage as much as i could. limited success.

friday, july 9: dinner with steven. we cooked meats; he was particularly fond of the pork jowl, thankfully, as i had a whole package of it. he brought some soju and some other plum wine drink and he listened to me cry and was a good friend and promised that we’d see each other on wednesdays when we were both in office.  sunday, july 10: considered going to church but then just slept and stared at my phone all day. tuesday, july 11: met up lorena at BJ’s for some happy hour beers and mini pizza. saw my waitress crush. cried a little.

saturday, july 15: managed to leave the condo to go hang out with amy at her house for a few hours, maybe like 1:10pm-4:30pm. we caught up and i tried to engage with her kids but they’re kinda tiring and didn’t seem particularly interested in engaging with me either. left to go to the pacoima costco where i got gas, toilet paper, eggs, and bottled water, and had my toilet paper and eggs stolen out of my cart while i put condiments on my hotdog. costco quickly replenished my stolen goods when notified, but it made me pretty sad and disappointed with the state of the world. sunday, july 16: slept for 12 hours. stared at my phone for 12 hours. ate a frozen pizza and then puked up some of it at night. monday, july 17: tiny tiny steps. texted amy and tracy throughout the day. chatted with lana for a bit on teams. tried to do a little work. did a few loads of dishes, and took out some trash and recycling. was able to walk to ralphs and buy a few items: items for cauliflower dip, a gallon of vinegar so i can clean some things. an onion. made some cauliflower dip, rinsed the cauliflower, and ate some cauliflower (health). also talked to rhiannon for a bit as we laid out our camping plans (for this friday-sunday), read a chapter in my book on borderline personality disorder, and now am journaling, so today was my most productive day in a week.

it’s such a weird sensation to feel ... so heavy, so unmotivated, so listless, so bored. the only thing i kinda appreciate is eating. like i enjoy craving a food and then thinking of how i can like satisfy said craving. i went back and forth with tracy last week on pizzas, and really considered going someplace to satisfy my desire for pizza, but laziness and cheapness caught up with me so i ended up getting two reduced/clearance frozen pizzas at ralphs and eating them over the next three days and they were gross and made me feel terrible. but sometimes i’ll think mm, prime rib sounds good. hwedupbap sounds good. i haven’t gotten as far as acquiring said foods, but it’s nice to at least have desire, in any form.

another weird thing is how i’ve gotten so addicted to my phone, even though nothing in/on my phone particularly entertains me. but it’s like i can’t tear my eyes away. FORTUNATELY i’ve stopped watching police body cam and otherwise shaming videos on the youtube and started watching more “Try Guys” and like the hot wings eating challenges. i find myself watching a lot of clips from The Office, Parks and Rec, Friends, the Big Bang Theory, and weirdly Young Sheldon (all this just pops up on facebook and i just watch.) i guess it’s a positive development that at least my mind is gravitating more toward light things rather than the worst of humanity. i should be receiving my DVD’s this wednesday so i can more mindfully tune into my tv shows.

i feel like i’m at the bottom of a very big hill. a mountain, i guess. every step is hard and feels heavy and the mountain seems very big and unsurmountable and i kind of don’t quite get why i even have to climb it, but i do for some reason. i know i need to “do the work.” i know i need to figure this out, somehow, for some reason. i guess. finding motivation is hard. but every minute spent not staring at my phone i guess is a tiny tiny victory. i know that i need to stop sleeping away my problems and stop wasting away my life, but ... but it feels so hard. tracy asked today, whether i might not benefit from a healthy diet and exercise? granted, i can see how eating frozen pizzas and sleeping all day long would Not benefit me in the long run, but it’s just kinda wild how when you’re as depressed as i am, that literally feels like the only thing i’m capable of. and though i can understand conceptually how a walk might feel good, or getting groceries to make a nutritious meal might benefit me, it’s soooo stupidly hard to just get any momentum whatsoever.

i hope today was momentum. 

week ahead: tuesday: hoping to do a little laundry and gather up some items for the camping trip. wednesday: in office. thursday: happy hour with danielle friday - sunday: camping in french camp with rhiannon

i’m mildly dreading camping because it’s been so hot lately, and sometimes it’s hard to do things, like meal prep or clean up, and i’m a little nervous that i won’t have fun because of the way i’ve been feeling lately and i don’t want to sort of ruin one of the only things that’ve made me feel better in my life, but also, i’m telling myself that it’ll be good to be out in nature, to not stare at my phone, to focus on something outside of myself. i’ll bring a couple books and try to do some fishing. i hope it’ll be okay.

COVID week!!!

the last week of matt’s on week was one of the hardest. on top of it being super lonely, i literally worried myself sick about him. we calculated that he worked at least 105 hours in 7 days, which doesn’t include his commute time. this was due to his pregnant coworker calling out and all her work falling on him and J. so, on his first day off on that monday (halloween), it didn’t surprise me that he started feeling unwell. we both thought that it was a cold or exhaustion due to being extremely overworked. 

the day started off well. we walked around cobble hill and picked up our favorite hot chocolate from the chocolate room. it was nice to see kids and their families get dressed up again and go for trick or treating (i don’t think i’ve been out for halloween since pre-pandemic). the VCF meeting for me had a hiccup due to one of the doctors not showing up on time but overall went fine. we had scheduled for matt’s flu shot that evening to meet a mandatory deadline of vaccination by the next day. however, when we went to the CVS, they had issues verifying his benefits. after over an hour, they could not administer his shot. we had to schedule an appointment with a different CVS for 8pm. anyway, matt definitely started to feel sick after the CVS stuff and getting his flu shot administered. 

on tuesday, i had booked a little getaway for us at the rockaway beach hotel using my capital one travel credit. matt was pretty sick by this point but we made our way out there. thankfully the commute was just over an hour and pretty straightforward to get to. it was both of our first times at rockaway beach. our hotel room was small but had a nice balcony and the beach vibes were really nice. i continued to WFH there while matt napped - definitely nicer to recover by the beach with sun than in a downtown studio without. we were able to take a nice walk to the beach (the beach itself was closed off but we snuck in and it was super secluded), use their private sauna and ate at their restaurant. we watched an hour or so of TV before matt had to call it a night. that night, i started feeling a sore throat myself. my first feelings were honestly anger. anger that matt had to work so much to the point where he’s sick on his week off. on top of that, he got me sick too! 

wednesday was okay for me, but i started feeling crappy on thursday. “what do you think we have?” i asked matt. he assumed it was the flu. i decided to take a covid test because i had planned to call off work but wanted to let my supervisor know with accuracy what i was dealing with haha. we found out right before my team meeting that we’re both covid positive. strangely, we were almost excited to say that we finally got covid once. i ended up waiting until after my two meetings that day before calling out. tried to get my work done for that day, but my brain was already in a fog and not registering a lot of stuff. friday i called off sick. monday i resumed. tuesday i called out half day. 

i was battling with the idea of calling out sick while already working from home and the guilt of feeling like i’m not working hard enough. i already sneak out from work regularly due to its flexible nature so i felt bad that i had to call out for a few days on top of doing that (my little secret). but whatever, i have over 300 hours of sick hours accrued and i have never lied or called out more than one consecutive day of sick. 

matt started his night shifts this past monday, while i continued to recover at home. this past week was definitely the ONLY time that we were both on the same dead/exhausted energy levels for the entire week. it takes me being really sick to have insight into how matt felt during residency or how he feels after working very long hours. i would be pushy about needing to go out, or not staying at home all the time, but this past week i was content with being indoors and relaxing and watching TV LOL. 

due to hearing anecdotally of how family/friends recovered quickly and how many experienced just mild symptoms, i thought we would be in similar situations. i had underestimated the time it would take for me to heal. i was sleeping a lot, and taking meds every night. i applied my trusty thai oil to help with congestion. there was one night that i started freaking out. being alone at night didn’t help either. i was still feeling crappy, and before sleeping, i had anxious thoughts about “what if i’m in the percentage that’ll need to be hospitalized; what if i die in my sleep tonight; what if i’m one of the ones that will get worse”. my hypochondriac ass was legitimately worried and i had to get a text confirmation from dr. matt that i will not die from covid lol. 

anyway, its now saturday and i’m feeling better. i finally left my apartment for the first time since this past sunday and it feels weird to see people again. i still haven’t exerted myself physically past a “stretch” type of workout and am scared to overexert myself too soon. i felt sad because i’m pretty sure i caught covid from hot yoga. or it may be that matt caught it from work even though he hasn’t these past 3 years. matt thinks that we had the flu-rona. our hypothesis is i was a carrier of covid from hot yoga, he had a weakened immune system and had the cold/flu, i transferred the covid to him and he got sick, then i got sick from him. i feel apprehensive about going to hot yoga again if it means i’m risking the both of us to get sick :/ but we do have the antibodies now to fight it off! 

my accounting program restarted on nov 1. i went through half of the material for the employment law class, which is one of the easier ones, but took a break because of covid. 

the second time around of night shifts is better for matt! at least we’re on the path of improving. we got better at regulating his sleep (made him drink meds the first couple nights, got him better earplugs and eyemask). we watch ramy over dinner before sending him off to work and it puts him in a better mood. i decided not to cook at all to not make any additional noise and we’ve just been ordering food.

Alright lovelies, we're gonna have a little chat for a moment here. Please take a moment to read this part. I know a lot of you are feeling ansy and uncomfortable right now. It feels like something that we were hanging on to for a long time for support has suddenly fallen out from under us. That's a valid feeling. Feel it. It's good to feel it. We got this far with #RenewAsACrew, and it's scary to think that support isn't there anymore. I want to point out though, the most important part of that sentence, and that is "WE". #RenewAsACrew was a leadership team that steered us in a direction so that WE could hone our creativity, tenacity, love, support, and unhinged-ness towards our common goal, and you know what? We FUCKING DID IT. WE DID. ALL OF US. This campaign is not just #RenewAsACrew it really is ALL OF YOU. Every single one of you has stepped up and done something to support this campaign, stepped out of your comfort zones, supported each other, and you have accomplished SO MUCH in so little time. We can appreciate #RenewAsACrew, and all they did to help steer us, but we can and we WILL keep going. I know a lot of you have already heard and have even joined the #SaveOFMDCrew that is now stepping up as our navigator. I joined their discord last night, and I have to say, their organisation, passion, communication, problem-solving, is all top notch. They listen to us, the crew, they help provide support, and I have every confidence that they're going to keep us headed in the right direction. So please remember, this is not an end. Take some time tonight, vent your frustrations and fears, and feel them, and then come back tomorrow knowing we're all still here. I'll say it again-- we are not losing ground, we are not losing speed, or momentum, we are pivoting. We are changing course so that we can keep doing what we do best, and that is kicking ass, supporting one another, and fighting for our show and for queer and diverse representation in media. We will get our joy back in some form or another, even if that form is just this amazing found family we've all stumbled into. We got this. Now. Onto the fun stuff.

#ChicagoFire S8, Ep. 20 "51st Original Bell" Season Finale Episode Recap and Review #ChiHards #OneChicago

 The season finale of Chicago Fire had us questioning whether someone was leaving Firehouse 51. Here's a recap!

In the season finale of Chicago Fire Firehouse 51 deals with a chemical gas at a junkyard that put one of Severide's men in danger. That happened to be Capp, who took the worst of the hit with his eyes not looking good. Severide tries to look into it and even question the owner of the place; but that didn't turn out too well. After a talk with someone at the CFD about it, it looked like all those warnings paid off to getting the junkyard to shut down. 

On the other hand, Capp skipped medical treatment at Med. Severide and Casey try to get him back before Will has to report it. After finding Capp at his home, Capp went back and after more than an hour for an eye exam, Capp will be fine. 

Kidd's Girls on Fire is doing so well and with the help of Brett and Foster, it's getting Foster some life-changing idea. Foster talks with Kidd about how she reapplied to Med school and has an interview at Northwestern; but is worried about how Brett will handle it. The secret gets spilled when Will talks about it to Foster in front of Brett, who wasn't too happy. 

Brett was also dealing with news about Scott deciding to take baby Amelia back to Rockford, Ill, but wants her to come over to be a part of her sister's life. After getting a bit of short advice from Casey about the partnership and all, Brett waits for Foste after her interview and tells her that they'll be lucky to have her. 

Kidd gets worried about one of her students, who asked for the fire manual but didn't return to the program. We don't get a storyline ending but I assume that this will be addressed in the next season. Also, Gallo is dealing with tension with Violet, who he tells her that they should see other people. Taking advice from Cruz and others didn't help at all.  

"51st Original Bell" was a good season finale that had the theme that someone might be leaving 51. Whether it might have been Capp or even Foster; I was leaning towards Capp. I just feel bad for Brett even more, who's seems to be losing everyone from her sister moving back to even Foster leaving too. I'm just hoping that she too isn't leaving. But this episode was Severide's for the taking as he fought tooth and nail to try to get answers to take down that junkyard that injuries his firefighter. 

Overall, I give this episode a 9/10.

UPDATE: As of yesterday, TVline had reported that Annie Ilonzeh won't be returning to Chicago Fire for Season 9. It's sad to see someone leave that's been so good for the past two seasons, Monica Raymund's replacement on 61. So Foster leaves 51, could she be going to Chicago Med? That would make Will excited to have on staff. Also, who could replace Foster? Violet? Oh man, that's gonna be fun to watch.

she’s a clingy baby, but never smothering. the fear of you leaving her someone else does cross her mind often, but you always make sure to remind her that there’s no one else and she’s the one for you without a doubt.

thrift store dates…hear me out. jules seems like the kind of gal to love thrifting old clothes, most of her wardrobe is probably thrifted. you two would always come across the cutest finds, causing the other girls in the store to give you dirty looks out of jealousy.

making playlists for each other (spotify > apple music).

going to parties with her and the girls—you guys would dance and drink for a bit until you wander off, checking out the scenery with everyone else. she would get a little nervous but she would remind herself that you wouldn’t do anything stupid or to put yourself in danger—hopefully.

speaking of parties, expect to have a few awkward encounters with either rue or nate. rue would give you two an awkward smile and wave before disappearing into the crowd. after hearing about how jules’s relationship with rue went downhill quickly, you definitely have some thoughts about her. and nate—he would just be staring, trying his best to make you both uncomfy. it doesn’t work, though, because nobody is scared of him. especially not after fezco beat his ass something terrible.

going to museums just to take aesthetic pictures for your instagram theme. 

you two being each other’s biggest supporters no matter what.

her admiring your beauty when you’re talking—doing anything honestly. she always tells you that you’re the most beautiful person in the world.

having sleepovers on the weekend! binge watching puella magi madoka magica, her fave anime ever. you absolutely adore the way her face lights up whenever the show is mentioned, and how hard she smiles while talking when she gives you recaps of all the episodes you missed. this girl really loves you omfg.

faint of heart.

I haven’t calmed down, but I have created a scenario in my head. I was stupid to think that scenario was not the case. I’ve been here before so I was pretty silly to think that it wasn’t what I first thought. I feel like an idiot that it takes something like this for me to finally break away and let go. Of course, that makes me really f*cing stupid, but I cannot help that. I don’t know why but I never deleted their number. Ridiculous on so many levels because firstly they are the queen of blocking so I assume I’m blocked, secondly I assume they have a new number now, and thirdly what was I ever going to do with it? I still feel sick and I can’t concentrate whatsoever, but here we are. This is life, so let’s move on, let go and stop holding onto things that are not holding onto you.

Onwards, and back to what I originally wanted to post about today. There were actually a number of things that I wanted to recap on that involved the person in question, some thoughts and incidents where they had been in conversation, but I don’t even see how writing about it here will benefit me in any way. As I say, blogging is a form of therapy for me, but perhaps all of this needs to be hashed out in a therapy session so that I can be helped through this process rather than throwing it all out here and feeling such a sense of relief. I don’t know.

Anyway, here goes my attempt at thinking of something else:

Home: Being home has been pretty wonderful. Although it’s been different and not as good as the last few times it has still been great to be home. K and I have had a few spats which is to be expected, and that was pretty much all I talked about in Group on Wednesday night. I find her so incredibly frustrating, but she’s still my sister and I still love her. We have also had some really great times; from her pulling into the drive home from work and me getting in unplanned and just going for a chat and driving around the block, to her doing mehndi on my hand (something she learnt in Bangladesh and is fantastic at!!) and having some deep chats whilst doing so. She showed me her file for immigration and we chatted about that and we also acted silly running around the kitchen table with me trying to hug her and kiss her on the cheek (which she lovingly hates). It’s been fun and I do enjoy spending time with her, but she can also be a real pain. 

My mum and I have not had the best luck this time I have been home. Usually we would get to spend a lot of time together whilst dad is at work but dad has been off a lot and every single time we planned to do something, something went wrong or my mum had to help grandma or something else. I got really upset and frustrated about it the other evening (another therapy topic), but we ended up having Wednesday together and we had a lovely time. I miss her so much when I’m not here and just don’t feel that we’ve spent as much time with each other as we would have liked this time. Regardless, she will be visiting me next year with any luck and then we will have two weeks of just us in DC! I cannot wait. Mum also started a new job which she is really happy with. I am so glad because her last job was causing major issues for both her mental and physical health, especially with her Parkinson's, so although she may not earn as much as before, she is happier and so much brighter and all round better. So that makes me happy. My dad and I have always had a rocky relationship. The last few times I have been home our relationship has been better than ever, yet this time it’s been a wee bit rockier. We are fine, and we haven’t argued constantly but we did have one HUGE argument that ended up with me telling him that he is the reason I am in therapy and that he is the reason I kept my sexuality a secret for so long and K didn’t tell him about A. I did lay into him quite a bit, but I was so upset and angry at some of the comments he had made at a gay couple on the TV and I just lost it. Screaming at him whilst fighting back tears was not exactly what I wanted to do, but it happened anyway. He broke my heart a little when he said he didn’t remember the heartfelt conversation we had last year when I told him all about my real relationships with C and N and that I ‘didn’t like boys’. My mum was raging that something so important to me had just been forgotten, but that’s life. I talked about that in therapy too because I felt so hurt. We had an in depth conversation the following day after driving (more on that later) and he apologised. HE APOLOGIZED! As that is not something he does often it felt important and like he meant it. I tried to make him understand why K and I don’t share things with him. He said he understood and we talked for a good hour, but who knows whether it will make any difference or he will even remember that we had that conversation? Regardless, he said he would try not to say things around me that may hurt me. I’d rather he didn’t say them at all, but I guess it’s a start. He simply sees it as having an opinion. *shrug*.

Driving: I’ve never really needed to drive. I’ve always lived in cities since I turned 18 and therefore there has never been a need. By the time I got to the point of wanting to drive I was living abroad and was never home long enough to have lessons. Whilst I was at home recently my dad took me out driving on one of the farms he has permission on. I was a nervous wreck. I’ve never been behind a wheel before properly and it was terrifying. The idea of controlling this huge device is just so scary and I had literally no idea what to do. For once, my dad was really helpful and patient with me and said I was doing really well. We went three times and each time I was getting better and changing gears! I was so proud of myself when my dad told me I was doing well. He even let me go down a really narrow farm track and said I did wonderfully! I haven’t had any real lessons yet, I don’t know how to check my mirrors or anything else, but the idea was to just get used to the feeling of being in the driver's seat, and although scary, I enjoyed it. It is now very much a goal to be achieved in the next year or so. I cannot have weekly lessons so I am going to complete a ‘crash course’ of lessons everyday for a few weeks and then take the test. Perhaps next summer as that will be the next time I am home for more than only a couple of weeks. However, I have already booked my theory test for when I am home at Christmas. I have done a number of mocks and I am only 2 correct answers of passing - and that is without knowing how to drive or having done any revision, so I am hopeful that I will have passed my theory by the end of 2021. Fingers crossed! I will then have 2 years to pass the practical, so here is hoping for summer 2022!

Okay, I better do some work. This was such a good exercise for taking my mind off the other thing buzzing around my head. Perhaps I need to revive my daily posting. It certainly seems to help.

Monday Night Raw (7/17):

Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley attacked WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez, specifically targeting the knee of Raquel.

Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green defeated Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez to become the new WWE Women's Tag Team Champions. The match ended with Sonya hitting the running knee strike on Liv to win the titles. match length-5:23.

Shayna Baszler defeated Nikki Cross. Shayna forced Nikki to tap out to the Kirifuda Clutch quickly for the submission win. match length-0:19.

After the match, Ronda Rousey confronted Shayna. The two exchanged harsh words, before Ronda challenged Shayna to a match at SummerSlam.

Becky Lynch/Trish Stratus/Zoey Stark Miz TV segment.

NXT (7/18):

Kiana James defeated Gigi Dolin. Gigi stopped Kiana from using her bag as a weapon, before arguing with the referee about the bag. This allowed Kiana to hit the 401K Flatliner for the victory. match length-3:43.

Thea Hail defeated Elektra Lopez. Thea scored the win via submission after making Elektra tap out to the Kimura. match length-1:17.

After the match, Thea called out NXT Women's Champion Tiffany Stratton, challenging her to a rematch for the title. Tiffany came to the ring and accepted the challenge, while also saying that she was superior to Thea. Before the champion could leave, Thea said that she wanted their rematch to be a Submission Match. Tiffany initially turned down the stipulation, but Thea attacked her and put the champ in the Kimura until she agreed. The match was later made official for NXT: The Great American Bash.

Backstage, Vic Joseph interviewed Blair Davenport and Roxanne Perez ahead of their grudge match at NXT: The Great American Bash. Roxanne promised to defeat Blair in her home state of Texas, saying she was tired of being seen as the weak link. Blair said that Roxanne didn't have the killer instinct needed to defeat her, before Roxanne walked out of the interview in frustration.

AEW Dynamite (7/19):

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. defeated Kayla Sparks. match length-1:06.

WWE Main Event (7/20):

No women's matches this week.

Friday Night SmackDown (7/21):

Charlotte Flair defeated Iyo Sky. During the match a video played on the screen in the arena, in which Shotzi taunted Bayley, which led to Bayley walking out in the middle of the match. The match itself was back and forth with both women nearly ending it several times. The match ended when Charlotte hit Natural Selection on Iyo for the pinfall win. match length-14:09.

After the match, Charlotte was attacked from behind by WWE Women's Champion Asuka.

Backstage, Bayley and Iyo were seen arguing on their way into the locker room. There, Bayley found her suitcase stabbed through with scissors through a picture of herself. Bayley then left the arena in a hurry, with Iyo following behind, still arguing with her teammate.

NXT Level Up (7/21):

Dani Palmer defeated Izzy Dame. match length-4:43.

AEW Rampage (7/21):

Kris Statlander defeated Marina Shafir to retain the TBS Championship. match length-5:02.

AEW Collision (7/22):

Taya Valkyrie defeated Skye Blue. match length-8:53.

After the match, Taya called out Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. and challenged her to a match. The match was later made official for the upcoming edition of Dynamite on Wednesday, July 26.

This past Friday, July 21 at Ring of Honor's annual Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event, Ring of Honor Women's World Champion Athena and Willow Nightingale made history when they became the first women to headline an ROH pay-per-view event. How to watch the Tokyo Olympics

 After a year-long delay due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the games of the XXXII Olympiad are scheduled to begin in Tokyo this week. Despite Japan’s struggles to contain the virus and athletes testing positive inside the Olympic Village, the event is still on. The sheer amount of action happening every day through the first week of August means you’ll need to plan ahead to catch all of the events you want to see, especially if you’re on the opposite side of the world.

When do the Olympics start?

The official start to the Olympics is the opening ceremony on Friday, July 23rd at 7AM ET, but a few events will actually kick off before that. Softball and Women’s Soccer competition begins Wednesday (Tokyo time), but the first games aired Tuesday night on the east coast. Softball, Men’s Soccer and Rowing are set to take place on Thursday with Rowing, Cycling, Tennis and Women’s Water Polo scheduled after the Opening Ceremony Friday and into Saturday. This weekend is when things really get going though, with a packed slate of events from Saturday onward. The closing ceremony will air at 8PM ET on NBC on Sunday, August 8th.

How to watch

For those of us in the United States, NBC is the official broadcaster of the Summer Olympics and has been since 2000. The network’s current deal goes through 2032, so you won’t have to look around to find the games on new channels anytime soon. Due to the volume of events, NBC proper isn’t enough to show all of the action, so you can also find live coverage on NBCSN, USA, CNBC, Golf Channel and the Olympic Channel — cable or TV streaming subscription required. Following controversy over tape delays during previous Olympics, NBC began airing events live in 2012 despite the massive time differences. During prime time in the US, the network will show highlights from earlier in the day in addition to any live action.

At least a portion of the marquee events — including the opening/closing ceremonies, Women’s Soccer Final, Basketball, Track & Field — will air on NBC. A lot of the events that take place in the middle of the night Eastern time (which is the bulk of the action) will be shown on the other networks and NBC’s streaming service Peacock. NBC Sports announced that Peacock will be home to “major events live each morning” including Women’s and Men’s Gymnastics, Track & Field and Basketball. The streaming service will also have six themed channels alongside three highlight shows throughout the day Eastern time along with a spotlight series that focuses on the women of Team USA. Olympics coverage will be available for free on Peacock with the exception of Men’s Basketball. You’ll need a $4.99 subscription to watch those games.

If you’d rather watch from your computer, phone or tablet, NBC says “every single event” will be available through NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app. Twitch will also serve up Olympics content, but not live events. There, you’ll find interviews, highlights and, of course, competitions. The platform will also host streams and co-streams with Twitch creators during some of the primetime broadcasts.

Several services and TV providers offer tools to help you keep up with all of the action. YouTube TV, for example, allows you to select which events you’re interested in and the app will automatically record them to its cloud DVR. Here’s to watching Swimming at a normal hour and not staying up until 2AM. YouTube TV has also added a medal table for quick reference and its “Jump To” feature lets you hop around events and specific moments easily. Cable providers like Comcast (owned by NBC’s parent company) are offering Olympics hubs on their services for easy access. There’s a degree of personalization across Xfinity tiers, for example, as well as notifications about “must-see moments” and playlists of highlights.

Fans in the UK don’t have to contend with quite the time difference as those of us in the States, but they’ll still get to watch as much of the action as they want. The BBC is the official broadcaster in the UK and it’s promising over 350 hours of coverage through early August. BBC One and BBC Two will show live events while an additional livestream will be available on BBC iPlayer. The network will have daily highlights and recap shows in both the morning and evening with anything that airs on BBC One or Two available on-demand via iPlayer. Coverage is also available through BBC Radio 5 Live and The Olympics Daily podcast.
