Hi! I have a question, you can ignore this if you want to but I’ve found myself really loving the way you write and the range of writing you can articulate as well. Speaking from someone who is nowhere close to that level of skill you possess, would you mind being able to explain your journey of writing, if you practiced any particular methods or anything else to get to this stage you are at right now? Unless you have been gifted the talent of writing from birth and didn’t need to try for much long or long enough to call it a journey. Could you also spare some tips and advice for someone who wants to start writing stories and what to look into/practice?

I love your work a lot and I am constantly waiting for the notification of your new posts, despite not being a writer myself I do love breaking down and analysing writing and your stories are always such good options for me to look into. i don't mean this in a self-deprecating way, but i've never considered myself a gifted or super incredible writer, i just get hype about story ideas and try to make them as good as i can. due to that, i start sweating when people ask for advice because i don't consider myself qualified... i do have a writing advice tag, but take everything i say with a grain of salt!! if it's fanfic literally all that matters is that you enjoy whatever you're writing.

i'm more than happy to share my writing journey though!! it's kinda fun to reminiscence.

i've loved reading and writing ever since i was a little lock. while thinking about this ask, it occurred to me that what i've always been the most invested in are the characters. i'd think about 275894275 different storylines with them. i didn't start writing fanfic until i was around 11 though, everything was handwritten. or in flipnote hatena.

i did a lot of fanfic writing from 11-14 buuuut then my interest in it kinda fizzled out. it wasn't until i watched hxh for the first time that i took it up again bc chrollo is that powerful. that's when i started conceptualizing HWR. i looked at my early writing folder, the first HWR fanfic i wrote was in 2016 when i was 15 ?? here's a cursed excerpt:

anyway, once i started making googly eyes at chrollo, it was gg. i've been writing often ever since.

what's helped me the most is to focus on the elements i find interesting. for example, i like fleshing out my MCs, focusing on dialogue, and developing a universe around the main pairing. because i enjoy this so much it's (mostly) always easy to devote time and effort toward it.

so i think it comes down to finding out what niches you like and working with those. some writers prefer to write with heavy prose, others are more succinct, some writers like dialogue, others prefer to be more action based... etc etc. this does require a little time if you're completely new to writing, but you know yourself best. you'll eventually pick up on what part of the story you're most excited to write.

this isn't particularly mind-blowing or anything but i hope it helps some 😭 what completely Altered my mindset was when i realized i can be as self-indulgent as humanly possible. cringe is not in my vocabulary. write a MC where every single character is in love with them if you want. write a 100k word fic about your OC being isekaid into x world. post about your f/os, draw art of you with your fav, go ham.

General artists:

@doekis (has a lot of soft 80s inspired cartoon art (think carebears, classic mlp, etc.)) their works are like cotton candy on silk canvas to the eyes, they’re so so SO pretty and cute.

@nicktoonsunite (aka izbubbles) the expansion to the nicktoons cinematic universe I didn’t know I needed but now that I have it, I am in love with it.

@graskip pretty use of colors and visual textures, a very maximalist use of short hand indicators on simple silhouettes that elegantly balance each other out. Their work is the closest thing to touching grass if that makes sense.

@ferretrix I forgot why I followed them and then scrolled down, and oh my goodness their comics? Their colors??? Their sketchy thick lines that make me wanna go feral???? Good stuff, check them out

@mutiniir followed for the epithet erased fan characters, stayed for the shoes with gun heels. They are incredibly talented, and have a fun and fantastic writing style.

@speyerboot everything cute, colorful, and just Shaped ™️ their works are super fun, they made that one epithet erased avatar maker (I can’t for the life of me remember the site rn), really good stuff!

@yamujiburo I don’t think they require a shoutout from me, but they’re a storyboard artist and director on Big City Greens, they make a lot of cute shipping art of Jessie and Ash’s mom which is both wholesome and hilarious, and I just think they’re neat :)

@k-eke animations right? But they’re animals. And they’re done on the FLIPNOTE APP ON THE NINTENDO DSI. Howwwwww??????? They’re fantastic with expressions, weight, and follow through in technical terms, and have a very funny sense of humor with their works.

@amberluvsbugs an old coworker, has The Most Talent, is currently working with Mob Entertainment, they know a lot about moths and have this elegant, whispy style to their work that the rococo period could only DREAM of replicating.

I Found During My Nuzlocke Phase:

@pettyartist I think they made the first comic I ever read in highschool, and while they don’t do it anymore I still keep up with their works.

@protocol00 was also one of the first comics I read, their artstyle changed dramatically overtime for the better, they’ve had a lot of improvement over the years! They don’t post as often any more so it’s like a delicious morsel when they do.

@kynimdraws was the reason I started to get into digital art in the first place. I followed their black and white comics intensely, and I appreciate that they wrote N like the freak he is ❤️

I’ve always been interested in animation ever since I can remember, I made lots of flip notes with the dsi flipnote studio when I was a kid hehe and eventually got photoshop and now I use procreate. I pretty much developed through trial and error, just lots of random attempts over the years but I’ve gradually improved, but I should try using actual tutorials and learning properly (you’d think I’d have done that studying animation at university but it wasn’t a technical course which was a bit surprising!)

I didn't have time to go wild with it because work, but hey I played wave 3 some! Here's some thoughts

Archsage's Gauntlet is really dope and fun lol, my lack of time manifested in just doing the first challenge only on normal difficulty but I do intend to do them all of course. But yeah a roguelike structure between combat trials is just fucking fun, lots of the possible options have drawbacks (risk reward mechanics pog) and there are options catered towards building up a certain sort of party but what if you don't get that party? Much to consider. Looking forward to getting more of it done since it seems way more substantial than the rest of challenge mode content so far + the throwback outfits do in fact look really good.

As for Masha stuff, it's... kind of about what I expected to feel about it lol. For what it's worth despite initially finding her annoying she did grow to be decently likeable, but you know it's that problem I have with Ino where she just doesn't interact with the rest of the game and vice versa so it's hard to really get super invested. It kinda feels worse with her because we learn she's a head of one of the Six Houses from the City! That's a really huge thing! But in the grand scheme of things she's kind of a flipnote! Makes me unsure how I feel about her compared to Ino, because Ino is pure 2 fanservice in one of the game's most blatant displays of it but she's also fun and likeable, whereas Masha actually is built for the world of Xenoblade 3 specifically and aims to expand on it but she inadvertently becomes less impactful because of the impact she's supposed to have. It's just weird.

fwiw though gameplay wise I'm feeling way better about her than I do Ino lol. Ino's only like mechanical addition to the game is Inoswap which only serves to benefit her despite heroes being worthless and also it's just a linear upgrade tree so it being like the in-universe sequel to Poppiswap is such a joke lmao. Lastly her class is just hot shit aside from the break art. Masha fares way better because accessories are actually useful on everyone and shit (granted I don't know the upper limit of her accessories' usefulness specifically) and you don't need her in your party to craft them and also one of her master skills is a party support that increases crit chance and damage bonus by quite a fucking lot so that's really fucking good lol.

I don't know if I have anything else to say other than just that at present but hey gamer.
