My name is Mark, and I have the desire to stop drinking, and battering the coke.

Tuesday 18th December at 0559 was. My last drink.

Am I an alcoholic? I'm unsure. But I know I have a problem. Is it better to be in AA pretending to be an alcoholic, our out in the world pretending I'm not?

I reached out to a friend of my mums, a man who has been 33 years sober, and a massive testement to how the program works. He took me to my first meeting on Thursday night. A step I never thought I'd take, and if I did, be happy about it. But I felt welcomed, a warm feeling. A feeling I've only known after my first drink.

I've been to 3 meetings in 2 days. This is saturday morning at 0718, I'm going to work for a few hours then I'm hitting a meeting at 1000.

I'm sure over the next couple days I'll start to post more and more about it. About how it took 3 bin bags to clear the empty drink bottles from my house, plus the 3 boxes of empty beer bottles.

I'm absolutley gasping though. I want to get fucking annihilated.

One day at a time.

God, give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Contact your local AA central office and find out the nearest one if you don’t know where to go! If you don’t have a family to go to or don’t want to go to your family’s house for the holidays or need a break from the family for an hour or ten, alkathons are great options! 24 hours of meetings!

Sometimes we forget to give ourselves credit for going through & getting through difficult situations or experiences.

Sometimes once we do get through these dark times, we dwell on the situation and think about all of the things we should or shouldn’t have done.

Sometimes we heal.

Sometimes we don’t.

It takes courage, strength, willingness, and time to heal.

The beauty in healing is the journey.

The beauty in healing is the strength we use to motivate ourselves, to progress, and to learn from our downfalls and still move on.

Not everyone can be strong enough to get through the healing and see the beauty from what was learned during the process.
