PoliZ’s WIP Update - 22 Nov 2023

Combining last week & this – I was on vacation and on the go, so didn’t manage much in terms of a word count. I touched 3 fics (3 WIPs) for a total of 1139 words.

On Ao3, I posted:

I have 18 semi-active WIPs 😬 with my current deadlines being the WinterIron Bingo which wraps on 16 Dec and Stucky’Verse Bingo which wraps on 22 Dec.

See below cut for what I’m working on/planning to work on - arranged more or less by bingos/challenges/etc. As always, feel free to send me prompts or plot bunnies as well as asks regarding any of these projects or any other WIPs I’ve got out there. Interaction really helps feed the Muse and keep me motivated!

Seek & Destroy Collab

After reading @psychiccatpanda‘s amazing Morguna and the Green Queen, I got the itch to explore the Soldier’s POV and talked Faustie into collab’ing with me! We’re working on a new part of the series, and I’ve contributed about 900 words towards the 2500-ish we have so far. Going to see if I can squeeze any of my BBB squares into this fic.

WinterIron Bingo - [WIB_R1] (Ends 16 Dec 2023)

I have twenty-one fills completed for this brand-new bingo event that I’m helping mod!

* G4 - AU: College Students – Posted Beaten to the Punch this morning - WinterIron mutual pining College AU that crosses over with my Volunteering Together square. It came in at 553 words.

N3 - FREE - filling this with Somewhere To Turn - a WinterIron No Powers AU with mall security!Bucky and young!runaway!Tony. It’s crossing over with my BBB Cold square - I’ve tweaked it a bit since posting on Tumblr (coming in at 881 words) and it will go up on Ao3 1 Dec.

* O5 - Gentle – use this poem as inspiration?

Stucky’Verse Bingo Round 1 - [SVB_R1] (Ends 22 Dec)

Thirteen fills, two WIPs and a couple of ideas.

* A1 - Harem - crossover with CABB Secret/Forbidden Relationship - Bucky and shrimpy!Steve are both concubines who love each other more than their lord. I poked at this a little for 71 words.

* B4 - Sugar Daddy - looking for inspiration - combining with CABB Nov Adoptable: Sugar Baby. Possibly shrimpy!Steve and beefy!Bucky?

* A4 - Fairy Tale Curse - this seems custom-made for a continuation of Beyond the Beast😁 Nothing written yet, other than some Vague Ideas.

* C3 - FREE - probably using this for Chapter 2 of Half of the Flesh and Blood That Makes Me Whole - a Bucky POV remix of at least the first part of Take What Was Wrong (And Make it Right), which is currently sitting at 52 words. I’m expecting at least one more chapter, possibly two, depending on how far I want to take the remix.

C5 - Last Resort - Posted A Close Call to Ao3 last Friday. A pre-war Stucky ficlet with protective!pining!Bucky - also filled my HHB Dealing with Extreme Cold, and WFB - Huddling for warmth squares (250 words) along with Whumptober Delirium prompt. It came in at 827 words.

Bucky Barnes Bingo - [BBB_R5] (Ends 10 Jan 2024)

I’ve got sixteen fills, four WIPs, and a couple more Vague ideas.

* B5 - Cold - see WIB FREE square

* U3 - Fireplace - Working on a 1980′s No Powers WinterIron fic set at a ski lodge where Tony’s being wooed by poetry and love letters that Bucky wrote to someone else. Started poking at this as a crossover with a Love Letters prompt and it’s sitting at 129 words.

* C2 - Yelena Belova– The plan is to use this prompt in the next chapter of Peresmešnik, (aka Three Avengers and a Baby), which is currently sitting at 1303 words (600-ish of which are mine).

* C3 - FREE - the October BBB Discord party resulted in a hilarious Mob AU communal story (mobster!Bucky & clueless!Steve plus Clint&Natasha&Scott shenanigans) that several of us did/are going to contribute to Rashomon-style.

* C5 - Marriage of Convenience/Pretend Couple - next chapter of Lady Natasha’s Consort and Lord Steve’s Companion. Got a spark of an idea the other day that might get me a bit further on this fic.

* K3 - Magic - Aro!Bucky healing with a kiss idea?

* Y3 - Alpine - see WIB Iron Soldier combo.

* Y4 - Forgotten Things - using this for Chapter 4 of You Can’t Stop It With a Gun - it’s sitting at 116 words at the moment.

* May Adopted - Insomnia - finally got this filled with The Dead of Night, which also filled a Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF211 An Old Friend] along with my JBB FREE square. It came in at 317 words and will post to Ao3 before this event ends.

* August Adopted: Take the Shot - sounds like a WinterHawk fic to me… maybe cross over with JBB Touch-starved? Whumptober/Fictober possibilities as well.

Tony Stark Bingo Round 7 - [TSB_R7] (ends 15 Feb)

Seventeen fills and one WIPs, with a couple of ideas in play.

* S1 - Galaxy - possibly use in final chapter of Never More to Go Astray ?

* T2 - KINK: Cock-blocking 'bots - I still want to combine this with the Fictober Day 27: prompt "I don't know if they will accept this."

* T3 - A pairing you've never done - Posted No Sensation to Compare With This – inspired by @rebelmeg’s Wingmen and Airmen, Flirting and Flying - it’s a remix/spinoff of the first chapter, where Tony flirts with Maria Rambeau while Rhodey and Carol get to know one another better. It came in at 1093 words.

* T5 - Shawarma - possible crossover with SAUB Canon Divergence – Battle of New York-related?

* A2 - KINK: Concubine - possible crossover with SAUB Gentle Dom

* A3 - FREE – @SomeSortofItalianRoast and I are looking at collabing on a Steve/Tony/Scott fic - maybe throw in a Comfortember prompt?

* R5 - Doppelganger/Evil Twins - The Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF214 Broken Mirror] got me at least a good start on the idea I’ve been playing with for this square. I posted NamNori on Tumblr and have a general idea of how I want to build on it to also fill my SAUB AU: Crack square. It’s currently sitting at 360 words.

winteriron. rated t. 1.3k. a/b/o au. omega!bucky/alpha!tony.

Alpine’s affectionate, but usually not this affectionate.

She butts her head against Bucky’s arm when she needs attention, she nuzzles against his hand when she wants to be pet — but recently, she’s been doing something new. More and more often, whenever Bucky finds himself laying in bed or sprawled out on the couch, Alpine will come over and burrow under his shirt, curling up next to him.

He has to admit, it’s pretty cute when it first happens. It starts becoming strange the second time. And by the third, Bucky’s downright confused.

“She just wants a better look at those abs, the gal’s got good taste,” Tony teases, poking Bucky in the side, and Alpine pokes her head out from under Bucky’s shirt to nip at his fingers. “Ow! Or she’s just being a menace.”

But in the years since he’s adopted her, Alpine’s never really been a menace, at least not entirely on purpose, and Bucky has a gut feeling that it’s something else. She’s sweet and cuddly, and even when Tony came into the picture, she’s been sweet and cuddly with him too. Perhaps a little less these days—she seems extra clingy, and with that, extra protective of Bucky—but still. She’s a lady of routine, and this weird, ticklish new habit of hers is very much a departure from the usual.

Bucky can’t help thinking it’s a sign of something, though he has no idea what.

“If anyone’s the menace here, it’s you,” he says, a tiny smile on his lips as he offers Tony a poke in return. This time, Alpine doesn’t interfere, just disappears back under the warmth of Bucky’s sweater.

“Easy for you to say, when she’s not trying to bite your fingers off,” Tony huffs. “Did you see that? She’s got it out for me, I’m telling you.”

“Oh, come on. She’s just clingy, that’s all.”

Tony’s only response is a noncommittal hum, and he settles back into the couch cushions, his gaze returning to the Dodgers game playing on TV. He reaches out after a moment, ready to settle a hand over Bucky’s thigh—the kind of casually possessive move that always makes Bucky purr—but when Alpine pokes her head out again, watching him with narrowed eyes, Tony changes course and wraps an arm around his mate’s shoulders instead.

“Maybe her heat’s coming up,” Tony muses during the next commercial break.

“She’s spayed, sweetheart.”

“Then maybe your heat’s coming up,” he counters easily. “Cats can sense that kind of thing, y’know.”

Bucky considers that. Sure, he’s heard about animals being able to sense changes in hormones, but Alpine’s lived with him for the better part of three years now and never once has she bothered to warn Bucky about an upcoming heat, as helpful as that might’ve been. It certainly seems strange that she would start now, out of the blue. “Maybe,” he says, more dubious than anything.

As it turns out, Bucky’s right. He’s not in heat.

He’s pregnant.

And as he sits on the bathroom floor, staring down at the two pink lines on the test, Alpine sidles up to him, nuzzling against his belly and offering a soft, prudent purr as if to say I told you so.

Alpine only gets more protective from then on — even more so than Tony, and an expecting Alpha is pretty hard to beat. It’s endearing in a way, the fact that Alpine won’t even let Bucky out of her sight anymore. She waits patiently by the door for him to come home, she circles his feet whenever he gets up to walk around the penthouse, and she sidles up to him the moment he settles back down, smushing herself right up against his growing bump, ears perked up and whiskers twitching.

“It’s possible she’s been trying to listen to the baby’s heartbeat,” Bruce suggests with a soft smile, running the ultrasound wand over Bucky’s belly, and though it’s faint, they can hear the steady thump over the monitor. “Sounds like they’ve got a strong one already.”

As the months go on, Alpine has her guard up a little less, at least around Tony. It seems like she can sense the calming, grounding effect the Alpha’s presence has on Bucky, and so she lays off the nipping and the glaring whenever Tony gets close.

It’s sweet, seeing the two of them brought together by the baby in a way they’ve never really been before, and some of Bucky’s favorite moments involve laying in bed, sandwiched between Tony and Alpine, as they both shower him with affection. Right now, Tony’s hand is splayed over the Omega’s belly, rubbing slow, soothing circles against his skin, as Alpine, on Bucky’s other side, offers tiny nuzzles wherever Tony can’t reach.

Bucky feels warm and peaceful and so incredibly loved, surrounded by this little family he’s made for himself. He’s starting to feel sleepy too, but his eyes only close for about a minute before he feels something else, swift and sudden.

A kick.

All three of them pause for a long moment, him and Tony and Alpine, looking at each other with wide eyes and trying to process the fact that the baby actually kicked for the first time ever. Tony’s the first one to break the silence, a delighted laugh bubbling out of him, along with an awestruck, “Holy shit! You felt that, right? Tell me I wasn’t just imagining it.”

“I felt it,” Bucky says with a big, bright grin, placing his own hand on top of Tony’s. It isn’t the most comfortable feeling, being kicked from the inside, but more than anything, Bucky wants it to happen again.

And it does, a few seconds later. Softer this time, but still noticeable.

Alpine lets out a startled meow, meeting Bucky’s gaze, and he’s so full of warmth and happiness that he can’t help scooping her up in his arms and pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. “That’s right, Al. Your little brother’s saying hello.”

The moment Bucky steps into the bedroom, Tony greets him with a soft smile and a fond look over the top of his tablet, before his gaze pointedly drifts over to the bassinet beside the bed in silent warning. Harley must’ve drifted off already, since there aren’t any babbles or cries filling the room, and Bucky quietly comes over to sneak a peek at the sleeping baby.

What he doesn’t expect—but what warms his heart all the same—is the sight of Alpine, laying by Harley’s side, dutifully watching over him. One of Harley’s hands is curled into her fur, gently kneading at it as he dreams, but the cat doesn’t seem to mind. She glances up at Bucky and purrs, as if to assure him that she’s got the situation under control.

Bucky rewards her by stroking his thumb over her forehead, watching as her eyes close momentarily in contentment, and then his hand moves over to smooth down the unruly hair on Harley’s head, careful not to wake him.

“Sweet dreams,” Bucky whispers, gazing over them for just a moment longer before his attention returns to his mate, settling down next to him on the bed. He leans in for a soft kiss, then another, and when he finally pulls back, it’s to quietly murmur, “Mm, thank you for getting him to sleep tonight.”

“As much as I’d love to take the credit, baby, that was all Alpine,” Tony tells him with a shake of his head, smile growing slightly. “She sure has a way with him.”

He hums in agreement. “Best friends already, those two.”

“Big time. You know what that means, right? She’s gonna teach him how to be a real troublemaker when he’s older,” Tony teases, wrapping an arm around Bucky’s shoulders and pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Won’t just be one menace in the house anymore.”

Bucky buries his face against his Alpha’s chest and huffs out a laugh. “We’ll be ready for it,” he assures. “Let them do their worst.”

Ok BUT what if Tony had a pitbull?! A rescue one too! I wanted to make him a blue nose pit cuz it reminds me of the dog, his name was Shield (this was before CA:WS) and i love me some big head no thoughts babies

Pitbulls get a bad rep and so does Tony, so its a match made in heaven and also this is winteriron. I wanna draw alpine and baby, curled up together, because I can.

Still have to come up with a name for him

Bucky raises a brow at Tony and snorts at the question. “I don’t think Alpine is going to understand, Tony.” He shakes his head fondly and laughs.

Tony tsks. “But Bucky,” he whines. “This is huge news! We’re gonna have a new kitten, and Alpine needs to know that he’s gonna be a big brother.”

“Babydoll, Alpine is a cat.”

Tony completely ignores Bucky. “Oh! We can make him a shirt to wear that says ‘Best Big Brother,’ doesn’t that sound great?!”

Another strong week - though will probably be slowing down for the rest of the month due to Real Life Stuff. I touched 5 fics (2 WIPs & 3 new works) for a total of 2403 words, about half of which was on one fic.

WinterIron Bingo - [WIB_R1] (Ends 16 Dec 2023)

I have twenty-one fills completed (including a couple of adoptables) for this brand-new bingo event that I’m helping mod!

* N1 - Bucharest – ended up using this for the WinterIron Bingo Round Robin - November 2023, which posted this morning. It’s an established WinterIron relationship fic where Bucky is working with a therapist and getting some guff from Steve about it. My part came in at 361 words.

* G4 - AU: College Students – Expanding on Beaten to the Punch with a bit of backstory on Bucky and Tony to fit with this square. It’s coming in at 408 words and am targeting it to post next Wednesday as a cross over with my WFB Volunteering Together square.

* O5 - Gentle – use this poem as inspiration?

* A4 - Fairy Tale Curse - this seems custom-made for a continuation of Beyond the Beast😁 Nothing written yet, other than some Vague Ideas.

PoliZ’s WIP Update - 13 Dec 2023

A productive writing week that brings me within about 2000 words of breaking 120k for the year! I touched 5 fics (4 new works & 1 WIP) for a total of 2488 words.

On Ao3, I posted:

WinterIron Bingo Round Robin - December 2023 - a bit of WI holiday fluff featuring Christmas tree decorating and Miss Morgan.

Beta Testing - A No Powers omegaverse WinterIron getting together fic with Alpha!Tony and beta!Bucky.

Cutting the Strings - Tony sticks up for Bucky when he thinks Steve is being a bit overbearing.

Posted Beta Testing on Friday – it’s a No Powers AU where Sam and Rhodey set rich!Alpha Tony up with beta!vet!Bucky as his plus-one for a holiday gala and came in at 1450 words.

* N4 - Unreliable Narrator - Posted Cutting the Strings to Ao3 this morning - a ficlet where Tony is perhaps misreading Steve’s attitude towards recovering!Bucky. It came in at 740 words.

* A4 - Fairy Tale Curse - this seems custom-made for a continuation of Beyond the Beast😁 Nothing written yet, other than some Vague Ideas. It’s fighting me at the moment and am not sure this is going to make it after all.

* C2 - Meet Ugly - Working on Deck the Halls - a No Powers AU holiday fic that crosses over with my Winter Break Advent calendar prompt Day 1: Putting Up Holiday Decorations at the Hospital - almost done at 441 words and targeting to post on 12/18.

* C3 - FREE - Will be filling this with Chapter 2 of Half of the Flesh and Blood That Makes Me Whole - a Bucky POV remix of at least the first part of Take What Was Wrong (And Make it Right), which is currently sitting at 1262 words. I need to stitch a few things together before posting it this coming Friday.

Still catching up on Real Life stuff - so another somewhat slower week for writing. That said, I am on track for a 120k year! I touched 3 fics (2 new works & 1 WIP) for a total of 1758 words.

* O5 - Gentle – Using this poem as inspiration, I wrote Let Him be Soft (And Let Him Be Ours) earlier this week - it’s a WinterPepperony +Morgan fic where Tony reflects on how Bucky became a part of their family. It came in at 394 words and posted this morning.
