Tony, with all his reputation as a playboy billionaire, is a little slow on the uptake. Natasha noticed this shortly after moving in with the team. He was genuinely unaware of the way ladies would drag their sunglasses down to their nose just to see the swing of his hips or the slow roll of his shirt sleeves. Pepper, despite their mutually thought break up, still drools a little when Tony's nimble fingers work the tie loose. And yeah, Nat wouldn't say no to a wild weekend away with the genius on a secluded cabin on the hill—doing nasty, nasty things to that tush.
But nothing compares Tony's oblivious nature when it comes to the men around him.
The way he drives Tiberus Stone crazy during the Met Gala, wearing a corset that's tight enough to give Victorian Era ladies a run for their money. The way one of the military brats shamelessly stares at his throat, licking his lips and subtly adjusting his pants. The way Barnes whines when Tony comes out of the armor, wearing the tight-just right-flight suit. The way Steve punches a hole in the refridgerator when he sees his shirt sitting loose on Tony's bare chest. (Apparently Tony and Nat are the resident clothing thieves. She doesn't disagree because Bruce's shirts and Clint's jackets look good on her.)
She sees it while tracing the spots on her mug. The resident genius billionaire is listing sideways, on the verge of falling off his perch on the counter top—because normal seats are for losers, he said. His head bumps on the shelving unit above and he mutters a curse, stretches his arm up to swat at it like it's a fly. But her attention catches at the stillness of two super soldiers staring at the patch of skin—a tiny sliver around the waist, the curve of the hip bone winking at them.
Tony yawns, jumps down to the floor and the loosely fitted sweats slide an inch below their designated spot. Something cracks and Nat watches them—the two Brooklyn boys pushing away their broken chopsticks and slowly, with the stillness of a pack of predators, rising up from their seats.
"I'm gonna go upstairs, use my bed for once," Tony tells them and sends Nat a slow smile. A knowing one.
He swings his hips around, humming an off beat tune and doesn't bother checking his own disheveled state of clothes.
It takes them all a moment to understand, and then Steve and Barnes are racing out of the kitchen after him, only to have the elevator doors slam on their faces.
Huh.
Looks like Tony might not be so oblivious after all.

Bucky: Hey, Sam.
Sam: Hey, Bucky. What are you doing here?
Bucky: Oh, I'm living here again.
Sam: Do, uh, Steve and Tony know? Or is it like a possum in the walls kind of thing?

when tony started working for bucky, he never imagined that anything would ever, could ever happen between them.
for starters, bucky was a decade older than tony. not that he had a huge issue with age differences, but still. tony was only in his early 20s when they met.
but more importantly, as far as tony could tell, bucky was happily married.
so despite the immediate attraction that he felt the second he laid eyes on bucky and the growing feelings he began to develop the more they got to know each other over the years, tony knew that nothing could ever come of it and that he needed to be content with just admiring the other man from afar.
but sometimes bucky would say things, or just look at tony a certain way, and he’d wonder if maybe, just maybe, the feelings he had were reciprocated.
regardless, though, he knew he would never do anything about it. there was no reason for him to do such a thing and nothing could change his mind about that.
not even when tony complained about another failed attempt at dating during happy hour one day after work and bucky said, “i could never understand why these idiotic bastards would rather waste another day getting drunk with their equally idiotic friends instead of spending time with you.”
or when bucky took him out for a celebratory lunch after signing a major deal with a new partner and their knees kept brushing under the table, and bucky just kept smiling at him for the whole meal like they were sharing a secret.
also not when they were on the phone with each other at midnight trying to salvage an important client relationship and suddenly the conversation segued into personal relationships and when tony sadly confided that he didn’t think anyone had ever loved him before, bucky vehemently declared, “doll, how could anyone know you and not love you? hell, i’m pretty sure i’ve been half in love with you for years.”
and especially not when they were on a business trip and heading back to their separate hotel rooms after a dinner with their biggest client and bucky kissed him before the elevator doors opened on his floor, and tony’s lips tingled for the rest of the night.
no, tony didn’t do anything about his feelings even after all of that because bucky was married.
then tony meets steve at a big company event, where this big beautiful blond man looks adorably lost and alone in a room with four hundred people. tony can’t help but drift closer to him and introduce himself, offer a drink, and ignore everyone else if only so he could make steve feel more comfortable in this crowd of strangers.
they spend the rest of the night together, talking for hours and giving each other meaningful and longing glances, smiling like they both know where they’d like this to go next. tony’s fingers absently stroke along steve’s hand that is placed on the cocktail table they’re leaning against, and steve’s other hand is playing with tony’s hair and sending shivers down his spine when his fingers brush against tony’s neck, and tony has to resist the urge to rub against steve’s hand like a cat.
steve has just leaned closer, lips and breath whispering across tony’s skin to speak softly into his ear when bucky finds them.
tony reluctantly pulls away from steve, refusing to feel embarrassed or guilty in any way, especially when he knows bucky likely interrupted them just so he could ask tony to get back to work. this is a work event, after all.
but then steve looks at bucky and smiles, and says, “oh hey sweetheart, finally got some time for us?”
and bucky glances between steve and tony, sees how there’s barely any space between them and grins from cheek to cheek. “looks like you’ve met my husband, doll.”
and, oh.
oh.
well.
it looks like tony suddenly has a lot to think about.

Don't worry, Tony is that surprised just because this is happening very early on in their relationship, and isn't yet used to all the casual displays of affection. But he is very happy to be the meat in a supersoldier sandwich (I mean who wouldn't?? 😂)
(Also I like to imagine a world where Civil War never happened, and they're all just living together in the tower, fighting baddies and being happy)(Also also Thanos who?)

Does anyone get that painful feeling in your stomach when you’re reading a fanfic and there’s a misunderstanding between the MC and their love interest/s and they feel unwanted and unloved.
I love that feeling.
Now what is this mental illness called?

Tony: *To Bucky* You cannot shoot every single person I've dated that you don't like!
Bucky: *Raises an eyebrow*
Tony: Okay, you technically can, but you shouldn't. Come on, Steve! Help me out here!
Steve: *Amused* Idk babe, you always tell him to use his free will, and that's exactly what he is doing.
Tony: *Frustrated* I'm so done with both of you, absolutely done.
Bucky: Don't say that doll *Pushes the genius into his lap* I'll behave if you spend some quality time with us, ¿hm?
Tony: *Squints* I feel like I'm being blackmailed but I'll allow it just because you're hot.
Steve: *Hugs the pair of brunettes* Oh so you are with us just because we're hot?
Tony: Right now? Yes. Now shut up and kiss me cuz I'm still mad at you.

steve and bucky each meet tony separately but they both feel that immediate attraction the second their eyes meet tony’s. they just know, at once, that they’d do anything to get to keep tony.
unknowingly, they start competing for tony’s affections. by being the polar opposite of themselves.
steve knows he’s awkward and shy when he meets someone he likes, so he thinks, “what would bucky do?” and pulls out the most ridiculous pickup line he could think of as he approaches tony in the grocery store. he has no hope of it working, but somehow bucky always manages to charm his way into someone’s heart no matter how cringeworthy the lines he uses are. so steve decides as long as he seems confident enough, maybe it would work.
tony makes fun of steve for being cheesy immediately, but he’s smiling and he still ends up giving steve his number, so maybe, steve thinks, channeling his inner bucky might make this thing with tony last.
bucky, on the other hand, knows that what he wants with tony isn’t just a one night thing. when he runs into natasha while she’s out with tony and she introduces them to each other, he thinks, “what would steve do?” and ends up spending the next two hours quietly enjoying their company and chiming in here and there, all the while sneaking glances at tony while he overthinks how to ask the guy out. he ends up stammering an awkward goodbye as they part ways, only to be brought up short when tony outright asks him whether he’s interested in seeing him again or not. bucky, relieved and disbelieving, breathes out an emphatic yes.
tony pulls out a pen and scribbles his number onto bucky’s palm and as he savours the warmth of his hand in tony’s, bucky thinks that maybe, against all odds, channeling his inner steve and not trying so hard to be super suave is how he can win tony’s heart.
after a few dates with each of them, tony starts to realize that neither of them is acting truly like themselves. sometimes they’d slip up and seem like completely different people. and tony, he notices and starts keeping track. the frustrating thing is, he likes them. he likes them so much. but he can’t fully give himself over to either of them if they can’t be real with him.
then one day just by chance, he sees steve and bucky together, hanging out and just being themselves, and the pieces start to click. he slides into the diner booth that the best friends are occupying, ready to confront them for being idiots.
but ultimately tony’s just incredibly happy knowing that this whole time the parts of them that steve and bucky had shown him, that he’d been falling for, were real. the only difference is now he can match the personality back to the face where it belongs. and maybe, just maybe, he can keep both of them.

1+14; angsty stuckony? 😩🫣
Hopefully this is angsty enough lol. For background purposes, Steve is a swan, Bucky is a magpie, and Tony is a hummingbird.
--
Steve had always been attracted to blues. And he probably shouldn’t have found it embarrassing, except of all the people who had showed interest in him, Peggy and Bucky had been the only two who hadn’t been upset when they noticed his eyes wandering over other people’s feathers when they were out and about. Peggy had politely but sternly told him that she was choosing to believe it was because he saw the artistic nature of them, and he’d agreed, because his eyes might have drawn toward blue feathers, but he was a monogamous bird.
Bucky teased him, though. It was always good-natured, but Steve couldn’t tell how sincere Bucky was when he noticed Steve’s eyes being drawn away and he grinned like a lecher and asked, ‘are they pretty?’ So he chose to ignore it like he had with Peggy. He had eyes. They caught blue and were drawn to it. It didn’t mean anything. He didn’t like to share, anyway.
“Steve,” Bucky said one night, when they were all battle-sore and retired to their own rooms to decompress. They were chowing through their third pizza before they went to pass out in bed. “Have you noticed Tony’s wings?”
“Buck,” Steve sighed, and the pulsing headache he’d been trying to beat to bed caught up to him. He wiped his hand on a napkin and then lifted it to pinch the bridge of his nose. “Right now?”
“They’re blue,” Bucky continued blithely, munching on a garlic knot. “Shiny.”
“He’s hummingbird on his ma’s side,” Steve said tiredly, repeating what Tony had told him when he’d noticed Steve’s… looking. He’d assumed Steve was comparing them to Howard’s instead of ogling.
Steve hadn’t corrected him, too scared of the reaction he might get when the team learned about his attraction to blue feathers. Sure, it would probably be good-natured teasing, but he’d been looked at as odd back in the forties, a swan not sticking to his own kind like they were known for. He didn't want to test that theory.
“I think we should court him,” Bucky continued, as if he hadn’t spoken at all. “Seeing his blues against your whites would be sexy as hell.”
“Buck,” Steve tried again, even though he couldn’t tell if he was angry or shocked. He also couldn’t help but imagine it, Tony’s iridescent feathers quivering against his white ones. It was a pretty picture in his head.
Bucky slanted him a sharp look, quelling whatever he was about to sputter. “Don’t fucking play stupid, Steve. Your eyes are already saying yes. Have been since the first time you looked at him, probably. Now I just need your mouth to tell me the same.”
Steve felt himself flushing, and his mouth dropped open in shock. Despite that, he could feel his wings raising, feathers beginning to spread in invitation. “I just don’t want Tony to…” he began, helpless.
At that, Bucky’s stern gaze faded. “Tony isn’t going to think less of you, Steve.”
“I know,” Steve said quickly, because he did. He did know that. Tony was one of the most accepting people he’d ever met. Too accepting perhaps, in some ways, but it wasn’t his business to say so.
But the few times he’d worked himself up to go after blue-feathered dames, before Peggy, they’d looked at him like he was… wrong. Like he was treating them as objects to covet. And while he’d come far enough to realize some birds were so chased after that they were wary of any potential mate that came their way, he still remembered the shame he’d felt as he wondered if they were right.
“Of course, there’s also the problem the opposite direction, where he thinks we’re joking or making fun of him,” Bucky muttered, apparently taking him at his word. He rubbed a hand over his chin thoughtfully as he picked through and discarded ideas. Steve waited patiently, because his tried-and-true flirtation technique was ‘god I hope they notice me first.’ Finally, he smacked his fist into his open palm. “I’ve got it. He seems to really like watching us spar.” He looked back up at Steve. “We need to manufacture a way to get him on the mat with us.”
“I’ll kill him,” Steve said simply. He was a swan. Tony was a hummingbird. Tony was only a few inches shorter than him, but his bones weren’t as solid. Delicate, Steve had called him once, and Tony had been torn between preening proudly and punching him in the face for patronizing him. Still. Steve had a hundred pounds on him of pure muscle with wings to match. Even if Tony wasn’t aware of their physical differences, he’d never allow Tony to goad him into a fight.
Bucky considered this, then leaned on the table with a sigh. “Oh boy. Well,” he groused, leaning his cheek on his fist irritably. “I suppose we can always ask Natasha to help us manufacture another ‘is that a threat or a promise’ situations with him.”
Steve remembered the situation where Tony had slanted a sly, smug look at them after mentioning him being sore for days. He remembered the lascivious tilt to his smile as his eyes flicked up and down Steve’s body before flitting to Bucky’s. He remembered the iridescent ripple of blues and greens along Tony’s wings as they fluttered becomingly behind him. He remembered the slow, syrupy drawled, 'is that a threat? or a promise,' a tease and an invitation all at once that he’d been too embarrassed to chase.
“She’ll be so insufferable about this,” Steve finally sighed, because he knew they’d be asking her.
Bucky huffed, shaking his head fondly. “Well, she usually is.”
