Synopsis: One where Harry's got yet another concert crush and she's got a sign for him
Ps. . This is sort of a shoutout to my fellow long hair girlies xx

Wembley night one.
Harry was excited, nervous, jittery, happy and hyper at th same time. Playing three nights there was surreal enough.
All three of his shows are sold out. They sold put within seconds!
Night one, he got the sound check done, He worked out, took a shower, had some soup and got ready to rock the stage all whilst his opener, Wetleg band went first.
The show was amazing!
The next day he woke up, and did all of it all over again. He enjoyed it every single time. But somehow he was more nervous today. He didn't know why, he had this weird feeling in his gut there.
But it was his turn and the butterflies in his tummy never went away. He stalled for five whole minutes before he had to really go up and get on with the show.
After Late Night Talking, they stopped for a quick instrument change. And during that time it was Harry's sole job to keep the crowd entertained. He had maximum five to six minutes.
"If you've got any signs now is the right time to get them up." He announced as the music came to a halt. As he was going down the catwalk he noticed someone fiddling with a sign frantically in the sea of signs which was now the pit. It was a sketch book to be specific. "You alright there?" He asked catching the girls attention in all white and her hair tied up in a sleek bun. Her head shot up to look at him when the girl next to elbowed her. She had red heart glasses on. "You've got a sign for me?"
"Yes!" She said as loudly as she could.
Harry walked to the edge as he waited for her to show him her sign. He chuckled walking away but he walked back to her. "Can I read it out loud?" With her agreement he proceeded to read, "your sign says, 'if your answer was only "Yes" to question, I want to ask you one. Ps. I came all the way from India and worked my arse off for this night'." He giggled again, turning red from nervousness.
"Okay, first of all, What is your name, love?" He asked, his mic rested on his chin as he spoke.
"YN!"
"YN?" He got it wrong.
"YN!" She corrected him.
"Oh, YN." He got it right this time. "Well, I really appreciate you traveling all the way too for the show and working your arse for it, YN. Really appreciate it." He blew her a little kiss making her gasp, "and to your sign again. Can my answer only be yes?"
"Yeah!" She nodded.
"Okay..." He hesitated, bht what can really go wrong from here? "What is your question, YN? But keep in mind this is a family show." He smiled a cheeky dimply smile, "or is it?" And the crowd went feral.
"No, no, it is actually a family show. My mum and sister are here today." He added, "yeah, your sign YN."
Harry waited as she flipped her sign to the next page. He turned red like a tomato as he walked away again, making the crowd scream and laugh. "It says, 'Will you go on a Coffee date with me, please?' and in parentheses it says, 'You choose Romantic or Platonic'."
He couldn't help but blush, "it says please. Please!" He was impressed. "I guess I'm gonna have to say Yes." He shrugged still laughing, "at least I have a choice. Can it be not a coffee date?"
"It can be a Chai date?"
"It can be a Chai date?" He asked just to be sure, "yeah! Yeah, why not!" He agreed.
"It's a date!" She yelled.
"It's a date!" He announced dramatically.
"Pinky promise?" She yelled again (so he can hear her) holding up her pinky finger.
"Pinky promise!" He went along with it.
"Yeah, I'm here in my wedding dress if the date goes well." She said, making Harry blush and laugh hardee.
"Yeah, if it goes well." He giggled, "YN, you stay right there we're gonna get back to you after the show. We have disco medley to dance on!"
And the crowd roared at that as he started singing Cinema. And through the middle interlude he made up new lyrics.
"Everybody put your hands in the air, everybody put your hands in the air, put your hands in the air. Everybody put your in the air, everybody I've got a date after here, put your hands in the air." He joked as he continued on with his show there.
Sometime in the show, Harry walked back to the catwalk towards the girl with the sign. She seemed to be having a great time. But he stopped and handed her a rose he picked up from the front stage thrown at him during Grapejuice.
And sometime ahead in the show when he got back to the same catwalk, he saw she had tucked the rose on her ear as she danced.
Harry had a blast!
And he was smitten like a little kitten whole night!
......................................................................
It was the next day after the show.
Harry still have four days left until his next show. So he was going to stay back in London and spend time with his mum and sister, and even go visit his dad later sometime.
His sister hasn't stopped pulling his leg over the girl with the sign on night two.
But today he got a call from his dear friend Pauli, who was also his band member. Pauli never calls him, but he haven't checked his Instagram DMs yet.
"Mate!" Pauli exclaimed, "check your DMs on Instagram."
"Oh gosh, you scared me." He sighed, "I will check them in a minute, yeah?"
"Yep, yep, yep. Have a great day mate." Pauli said before they hung up the call.
Harry sat down on his bed. He had to anyway to put his shoes on, so he opened up Pauli's DM. It was a reel video he shared. It was a video of a girl's silhouette dancing to an Indian song, it was beautiful least to say. He went back see what his friend had to say. They asked him to check the profile out.
It was the girl from the girl with the sign, her bio said she's a dance teacher and of course a choreographer. Her account was verified with well over seven hundred fifty thousand followers. He picked the first post to check. It was a series of ten photos.
First one was a video of her being dramatic, with her dress scarf over her head. It also gave the full picture of her outfit, it was a pretty traditional outfit. It was very short and cut of after her and her friend started laughing. The second one was a cute picture of her and her friend. Then a short video of their interaction, when he gave her the rose. Then another of her Sarah giving her a one of the drum stick. And then a few from the dance studio session, he believed they were.
The last video was of her being woken up by her friend, jt was hilarious. "YN wake up, you just told Harry Styles you're getting married if the first date goes well." The voice behind the camera said. He believed it was the friend.
The girl woke up in surprise. "What the fuck?" She exclaimed still half asleep.
"You even showed him the wedding dress."
"No, I didn't?"
"Yes you did. You have a date with him."
"Shut up. Why does my head hurt."
"Because you drank straight up vodka last night."
"What? No!" She whined and the video cut off there.
Harry laughed watching that. He saw a bit of the comment she replied to hust underneath her caption which he did not understand. The comment said, "No, I don't drink and I drank about 100-150 ml of straight vodka my friend snuck into the venue in a Fiji fucking water bottle." Harry had a great laugh with that, and he saw another one of her replied. "My sober self would have NEVER let my intricate thoughts win. But yes, I asked him out. I had to have my shot (pun intended)." He laughed even more.
There were a few more replies. He saw a comment which explained why she was replying to comments was because she couldn't get out of her bed. A bad hangover it was.
There was a little translate button which he pressed to see what her caption was about because he saw a few more comments with laughing faces regarding captions. It said, "My husband's house." To which he laughed even more. His fans are crazy and they crazier stuff than this. He rather found this wholesome and adorable.
Harry almost had a heartattack when his phone slipped out of his hand. Not because he thought it broke, because he might accidentally like the post. He doesn't want to look creepy. He didn't liked it so he let out a sigh of relief and closed the app and locked his phone.
He remembered he was hungry and in need of a breakfast. So he headed out.
His chef was on off, because well he's on tour. And he can't cook to even save his life there. Though he might argue he can bake, just because he worked in a bakery.
He went to his favourite breakfast place. It was small and quiet and no one bothered him there. He also wore his cap, and his hoodie with a pair of sweats this time, a little bit of change in outfit so he have a quiet day by himself.
"Can I please have a get a large iced Matcha Latte and one of the Chocolate croissants to go?" The guy in front of him ordered as he checked of the menu on the side wall mean while. It was his turn to order.
Just as he turned around he saw a familiar face with glasses on, sat at a corner table.
Wait, is he hallucinating or something here?
She wore a beige cardigan paired with a white tshirt, and what looked like to be a pair of baggy jeans, black heeled boots with red bottoms. Her hair was left loose behind her back, and Subway sandwich as she sketched in her sketch pad.
"One Mocha Latte for YN!"
It was her!
He waited by the side where she'd go over and pick her drink.
Harry was in awe. He wasn't sure if her hair were real or she wore extentions, but he was smitten all over again. She stood almost as tall as him which sort of intimidated him there. She checked her cup as she picked it up and almost bumped into him there with a hot drink in her hand.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" She gasped. "Oh my god!" And this was a different gasp of emotion.
"Hello there." He smiled sheepishly.
"This is going to be awkward." She chuckled, seemingly more embarrassed than he was. She looked down at her clothes to make sure nothing was split. Her shirt was his merch. "See! I'm so sorry."
"No, it's alright." He shrugged and watched as his order was ready.
"Just... I am sorry about what I said at the concert." Her cheeks have turned red, "that was so stupid of me."
"Yeah?" Harry gathered up all his courage to say, "why don't you tell me this with coffee then?"
Her eyes went wide as behind her glasses, "sur--sure!" And she agreed. They walked upto the table she was sat at. There was a paper bag from Selfridges and her bag which had a scarf spilling out of it by the side, as if it was shoved in theere in hurry. She closed her sketch pad (which thought he saw a glimpse of a pretty sketch of a dancer she was drawing) and kept it aside and her phone.
"I never drink, and I accidentally drank like I don't know how many shots of vodka." She started explaining it anxiously. "Before you ask how I didn't know it was vodka. I am a dancer and you know after you've been working out for so long and you drink some water and tour throat burn a little? Wait, that sounded so wrong but you know what I mean! I literally did not meant to say what I said apart from the sign!"
"Calm down, love calm down." He smirked trying to hold back his his laugh. "It's alright, I promise it's alright."
He's just having a happy and giggly day!
"Thank you." She sighed and sunk into her seat.
"Hope you at least enjoyed the show?"
"Oh yes, I did." She nodded sitting up straight again and reached for her sandwich. "I remember everything, except for after I accidentally got shit faced, as you all say it here."
"Understandable." He commented.
"How's your day going so far?" She asked.
Oh boy how YN hated small talks. But she doesn't want this to be an awkward encounter with the celebrity love of her life!
"It's been amazing." He admitted, "what about you? Are you here on a vacation?"
Okay, he's bringing something along to chat. Okay, YN calm down!
"Oh, no I'm not here on a vacation." She shared, "as I said I'm a dancer so I'm here for the semi finals and finals for this compitition I entered in."
"Oh, that's interesting." He was amused, "did you win? Oh wait, you had your finals yet?"
"Yeah. I got the second place." She smiled proudly. "It was just yesterday."
"That's amazing, congratulations!" He gasped. He's genuinely happy for her.
"Thank you, thank you so much!" She now beamed at him with excitement. Or you can say quiet excitement, as she took a sip from her coffee.
He liked the way she talked and how she carried herself. Especially now she's all sober and not drunk dancing like she was at his concert. Both those situations show her personality. But he liked how she talked. Something about her felt so delicate. Her posture was way too perfect, it made him feel insecure about his as he sat up straight.
"You're in town for longer?" He asked hesitantly.
"No," she let out a sad sigh, "I am going back home this evening actually."
Now he didn't know what to say further and it looked she had nothing to say either. And neither of them had touched their breakfast. Which was going to be awkward to leave. YN took a bite of her sandwich.
"You know what, I am so bad at small talk." She admitted making him giggle.
"So am I." He admitted too, "what's that?" He pointed at her sketch pad. It made her go red again.
"I draw a little." She admitted and picked up her book. She flipped rhe cover to show him a pretty little sketch of a bunch of roses. And she carefully skipped five pages to the one he saw a glimpse of earlier. It was half done sketch of a ballerina, it looked like she was drawing it with her own imagination.
"That's very pretty." He commented, "why'd you skip those five pages?"
Okay, Stage Harry making an appearance with the confidence there!
"Those are not done yet!" She got defensive. And he just squinted his eyes at her, "I'm already so embarrassed Harry, honestly." She held back a sheepish smile.
It was indeed a smiley and giggly and happy day today!
"Are you gonna show me?"
She sighed and turned the page for him. It was a sketch of rhe grumpy bear from his Gucci collection and the next one was his sketch. The one he posted after his San Jose, Live On Tour show. And the next was his Madison Square Garden pose sketch. And next was from the Coachella show with extremely detailed drawing of his tattoos, and a cowboy hat.
"Oh I love this one!" He is really mesmerises by it.
"Thank you." Her cheeks hurt from smiling and blushing so much in that moment. "You can keep it."
"It's alright." He felt bad now. He doesn't want to take what looks to be hours and hours of work. "Looks like it took many hours to draw."
His accent was sending her to heaven, but she managed to keep her cool. "It's alright." She proceeded to tear off the page carefully.
"Thank you." He's going to get it framed and hung up at his home. Yup, that's the first thing he's going to do!
Harry carefully placed the thick paper in the book he was reading. And it got super silent between both of them, as he sipped his coffee and she ate her sandwich. The chatter became just a background noise. It was comfortable and not awkward. Until her phone dinged with five messages back to back.
"Excuse me." She picked up her phone to check the message. She typed a quick message, with a looks of upset and disappointment on her face.
"Everything alright?"
"Yeah." She nodded, "it was my friend asking when I have to leave." Her friend was going to drop her off to the airport today. She's got to go back and pack up and all. She placed the last bite of her sandwich down on the wrapper not knowing how to tell him she has to go now. It felt wrong. "I should go now? Have to pack and stuff."
"Mhmm." He nodded.
"I'm really sorry about this." She felt bad, because they didn't get to talk much.
"It's alright, love, you got a flight to catch I understand." He nodded as he watched in awe and she placed her scarf around over her neck and gather her stuff.
"Please take care of that for me, it took me fourteen hours to make." She said as she got up and hung her bag on her shoulder.
"I promise." He smiled a dimply grin as he glanced at the little sketch. "Hey, YN?"
"Hmm?" She looked at him as she picked up the trash to throw it in the bin on her way out.
"I, uhhh, can I have your number?" He asked. It had YN's heart almost burst open in her chest cavity.
Harry Freaking Styles is asking for her number?!
"You want my number?" YN couldn't believe what she heard.
She was only joking when she took that sign with her. She sat back down on her seat giving him her fully undivided attention.
"Mhmm." Harry nodded, with curiosity behind his bight green eyes and lips pursed in a thin line. He pulled out his phone to unlocked it to open the dial pad and placed it on the table facing her.
He noticed how she didn't even pick up the device as she typed her number with shaky number. She typed in her name with her pointer finger as she saved it and slide his phone back towards him. Her cheeks had turned a visible shade of rosy tint. He immediately sent her a dot so she could have his number and not think he's a creep when he decides to text her.
That's when he also noticed she's got an Android. He'll definitely have to download WhatsApp now!
"Okay, Harry I really have to run now." She shared, "I broke my shoes and I can't walk fast in heels."
"Yeah." He nodded a beaming smile, "talk to you soon."
"Hmm." She nodded and sped walked out. As she walked past the glass window she waved at him before she jogging out of his sight.
He spent next hour and half with his earphones in, stalking her page. The reels side. Videos of her dancing with a crowd of people. Effortlessly beautiful. Different studios and different locations.
There was a video of her dancing for who looked to be her grandma and mother. The older lady looked very impressed as she sat there in her chair. And the next video was of her dancing with her mum and the next was her recreating old and black and white pictures of her grandma.
It looked like she comes from family of dancers.
He's obsessing over her now. He stopped and noticed he's run out of coffee and that way too much screen time for him. So he went home grinning like a little boy.
......................................................................
It had been a good few months. Harry felt way too awkward to message her. Nothing about their interaction at the cafe was shared by her or anyone really.
It was nearing December. He's framed the piece of art she gave him and hung it where it is in plain sight. He was also hosting a quiet little surprised birthday party for his elder sister.
He's been in deep conflict and he hasn't shared it with anyone else. His interaction with her at the cafe.
But he saw on her WhatsApp stories that she's back in London for work again. He was in London so he texted her to check on if she's up for a little meet up. But his message unfortunately went unseen for a day and half. But he recieved a call from her instead.
He'd just woken up from his impromptu afternoon nap after his intense workout session, which was supposed to be just half an hour long but it's almost seven in the evening. He hadn't even changed yet.
"Hello?" Her voice rang through the speaker phone which was enough to break his sleep there.
"Hello!" He woke up abruptly, "Hi!"
"Were you off to bed already? I'm so sorry to wake you up." Her voice was full of sympathy thinking she woke him up.
"No, I was, I was taking a nap. What's up?"
"I just called to apologise, I saw your message on my notifications but I literally forgot to reply. I've just been so busy. I don't know how to say this over message..." Her voice trailed off with a hint of sheepishness.
"It's alright, I understand." And he really does understand. "I texted you to see if you're up for a meal, and uhhhh, to catch up...?" And he's nervous now.
"I am sorry, I am really busy tomorrow. I have rehearsals for the tour— fuck!" She cut off herself, "I am not supposed to speak about it. I, I am busy tomorrow as well."
He chuckled, "we can meet up now or whenever you're free today."
"Wouldn't it be too late?" Now she sounds nervous.
"I slept for five hours now, don't think I'll be able to sleep again." He shrugged as if she can see him through a voice call, feeling his cheeks grow warmer and tired with a realisation that he's been grinning like a totally idiot.
"Okay. Uhhh, yeah, okay. I'll just have to go back to my hotel, take a shower, and get ready, and, and, I don't know..." She panicked and talked to herself, "okay, we can meet at around ten...ish... If you're fine with that?"
"Send me your location I'll pick you up at ten-thirty." He chuckled again, her little ramble was so adorable to him.
"Okay!" She squeaked.
Harry heard someone calling her name, that was the queue for him to get off the call and get ready. And so he did. He bid her bye and ran to shower. Get out of his dirty and sweaty clothes. He spent three hours getting ready, as if he's going on an actual date.
At exactly ten he recieved her location. He was dressed in a pair of jeans, his white 'Enjoy your health. Eat your honey' shirt and a black coat to keep himself warm. With a pair of black sneakers he reached first. He didn't had much time so picked the first black pair he saw and ran with it.
With traffic it's take him forty minutes to get to her location. He dropped her a text once he reached to the hotel she was staying that.
It was a luxurious and fancy to say the least.
He saw her getting out of the entrance as she bid her friends bye and walked towards the direction he had told her to. It took a few moments to see him. But he saw her.
She wore exactly same outfit as him, but with a black tshirt and her beige coat and white comfy sneaker. Her heels were missing. Her hair left loose this time. Her staple pair lf priscription glasses were placed on the bridge of her nose. A silver necklace shined over the black fabric of her shirt.
"Harry!" She gasped once she noticed him and sped walked towards him. "I am still going to fangirl, please excuse me!"
He chuckled as he approached for a hug, "no worries." He snaked his arms around her middle pulling her in a tight and warm hug, just to get one right back.
He'd hugged her just a couple lf times but she gives the best hugs.
Yup!
"I have something for you!" She got all giddy and giggly as she pulled away from their hug.
"What is it?" Obviously he's curious.
"Not now," she wiggled her brows cheekily. "Where are we going?"
"Well, if you haven't had your dinner yet, I hope to take you somewhere for dinner." He already opened the car door for her.
"Oh yes please!" She sighed, "I am starving." And got into his car.
"As you say." He closed the door and jogged to the drivers side. "What do you want to eat?"
"Hmm, let me think." She put in a thought into it as she put on her seat belt and he'd already pulled out of the car park, "I want to try fish and chips... Is that too touristy to say?"
"Not at all!" He defended, "we can have fish and chips." He drove to a location just fifteen minutes away. And she followed him in there, it was not very crowded given it was around the closing time. Clearly, it was a pub she saw as she headed upstairs.
"You know I don't drink, right?" She whispered, following him closely behind.
"I know, but this place has the best fish and chips." He led her to an empty table, "you want me to take your coat?"
"No, it's okay I'm cold." She shrugged. They ordered their food and sat in a cosy little corner.
"So you're going on a tour?" He squinted his eyes at her.
"Stop, I wasn't supposed to talk about that. I'll get in serious trouble!" She gasped making him laugh.
"I promise, your secret is safe with me." He pushed for the last time, if she denies he wouldn't talk about jt ever again. But she looked around to see the people already engaged in their own time there as she leaned forward.
"I am going to be a part of The Eras Tour now!" She whispered before she was kicking her feet like a baby in excitement.
"What!? That's amazing!" He was surprised to hear that to say the least.
"Yes!" She grinned, "we start off in Tokyo. You're going to any of the shows?"
"I am definitely going now." He nodded feeling bold, "on one condition."
"What is that?" She looked at him confused.
"Maybe we can call this a date?" He shrugged, trying to be as nonchalant as possible and watched her face go pale.
"You are serious?" She countered instead of answering his query first.
He leaned in closer over the table too, "I think I've made it pretty clear, I like you." A sheepish chuckle left his mouth, "like a lot!"
"Hold on, hold on, hold on. I wasn't expecting this!" She announced with a gasp. "You're pranking me?"
Harry squinted his eyes, " why would I joke about this?"
"You're joking!" Now this was a surprised accusation on him which sent him laughing.
"I am not." He cleared his throat after he was done laughing.
"I, uhhhh," she stuttered, "I need time to think..."
"No worries." He said but before he could say anything further, their food was served.
Harry switched to another topic to make the situation less awkward. She definitely felt awkward and he's rather have her be comfortable than be adamant in getting his way.
"You're not drinking right?" She asked.
"No, I gotta drive." He answered, "why so?"
"No, 'cause I paid like two hundred pound fee for driving without a licence and going over the speed limit here last night." She shared sheepishly, "in my defence all of my friends were drunk their ass off and I had no idea how the uber thing works here. They definitely would have arrested me but they let me go, I don't want to risk that. I still don't know how the uber thing works. That's like my entire month salary gone..."
She's got a job which pays ber better now so she was fine with paying the fine. Or she wouldn't have mind spending a night behind bars. Yeah, she'd do that.
He giggled, "don't worry that won't happen." He understands, it's a new place for her and it can be difficult to figure out addresses and stuff. Especially when it comes to have some stranger drive you around when you don't know the area so well. "You want Icecream?"
"Always down for Icecream!" She announced.
Harry took her to his favourite ice cream place before he drove her back to her hotel. Now, he didn't wanted the night to come to come an end with her. He could spend hours and hours talking and listening her talk. He got put of his car just so he can make the moments linger more. He hugged her but held onto her hand as he wished her a good night.
"Thank you for, uhhhh, taking me out." YN stuttered as she spoke with a sheepish smile, "and about, ummm, your question... I, uhhhh, I don't want things to get you know sour between me and uhhh..." She was trying to find words in language he understands but he already had idea where she was going with this. "With uhhh, me and Taylor. Please don't get me wrong. She's my employer and now she's become a good friend of mine during the rehearsals and stuff. Given you two were together, even though it was a decade ago. I still want to talk to her."
"Mhmm." Harry nodded, because that meant hope was still hanging in there. His heart is still intact in his chest with these new growing feelings.
"But if you're still going to any of the show let me know, okay?" He squeezed his hand slightly.
"I will."
"Promise?"
"I promise!" He squeezed her hand back.
It just means he get to be fancy and take her out on a proper date!
......................................................................
That was last year.
Harry was in Tokyo for the first show which YN was part of. He was there with his friends and even his sister joined along with her boyfriend.
YN had sent a bouquet of flowers and a card at his place his birthday, which undoubtedly made his entire year. It was a nice gesture given she said she's so bad at gift giving, especially for birthdays. He kept the card safe.
He has also been waiting for her answer eagerly. Even though it should be pretty evident it's a yes, they talk a lot more now given she's so freaking busy, they're both always texting or sending each other snaps of highlights of their days.
Harry bought a bouquet of flowers for her before he was off to see her. They were meeting up at this little cafe he picked out, but it was going to be her treat in celebration of her new project beginning. It was so special because Japan is his most favourite place to be. And YN have also been so excited to show him something in particular she wouldn't tell him over text or their usual phone calls.
Just as he was about to text her to see if she was there as he walked up the street, he saw her jogging looking at her phone screen. Probably at the google maps. Her face framing hair bounced around her features, as she tried to be as fast as she can in a pair of sandals. A baggy hoodie and her favourite paor of jeans. Her usual glasses missing.
Harry remembered her saying she got contact lenses as she can't really perform with her glasses on. And she needs to see the stage for that.
"Harry!" She squealed omce she saw him.
"Hello love!" He greeted her with his usual warm hug, and recieved one right back. YN just squeezed him tight, like her life depends on it. "I got you flowers." He quietly whispered in her ear there.
"I know!" Her face buried in the fabric of his Bode button down shirt.
Now both of them spent their entire day together, had all three meals and snacks out, walked around seeing all they could see in a day, hand in hand. Before Harry was walking her back to her hotel, which was barely five minutes away from hers.
"I'll take you to see more places later, now please take some rest you've got a big day tomorrow." They both stopped just outside her hotel.
"I know!" YN nodded excitedly with her tired eyes moving closer to him. She works for next four days straight then she's got five days off before she's got to go to Australia for next shows. "You'll be there right?"
"Of course, came all the way here for it." He assured her, feeling his heart flutter in his chest.
"If your answer was yes, I want to ask you a question.' She spoke with a subtle cheeky smile on her face.
"Go for it." He said.
"You want today to be a date?" Now he completely forgot about his question he asked months and months ago. He was just pulled back to senses when she moved even closer to him, making his heart thump in his ears.
YN has had plenty of time to think, work on herself and talk to her new friends/ employer about this. Of course, Taylor is not a kid anymore. She was in fact so happy for YN, when she approached her one random day at the dinner after rehearsals. They both sat down seperately and had a nice thoughtful chat.
YN of course told her mother and grandmother, who she is the closest to about this. They obviously support her because she's so happy. Her missed her mum and grandmother, one of them couldn't travel because of their age and the other couldn't come because they had to take care of the other. She misses her family, being away isn't as romantic as she thought it would be.
But today was amazing. She felt like she had someone known with her for the first time in months and months, in flesh next to her.
YN just wanted to kiss him then and there. In the middle of the street. But she didn't know how to approach with it.
"Hands down, it was the best date I've ever been on." He shared with a beaming smile on his face. "We should do this again, yeah?" He snaked his arms around her waist sure that she's figured everything out by now and that she's finally willing to give them a chance.
"Yeah!" She nodded. He went in for a kiss as the same time as her, bumping into her nose they both ended up in a fit of giggle. "I am sorry!" She laughed, "I've never kissed anyone."
Harry giggled again but assured her, "it's okay." He leaned in again, his time taking the charge he placed his mouth on hers in a delicate kiss. Once he pulled away he had her blushing her forehead pressed on his chest. "It's just a kiss, you're gonna get a lot of those now!" He laughed hugging her again. She groaned before lifting her head up to look at him with a red face.
"I was just a fangirl!" She couldn't believe her life in that moment.
"Now I'll be a fangirl tomorrow." He pointed out, "cheering especially for you."

Hotd modern au
I got inspired by @sansaorgana she made me fall in love with this au 🥰
For warning, this was something quick I made on my phone so probably ain’t great. But enjoy 💚
We’ve agreed that the Targaryens are rich as fuck, i think it’s old money like the Kennedy’s. Visryes is a huge lawyer and Daemon gives me Wall Street investors or CEO vibes. And Alicent is stay at home mommy that loves her kids. Nrya is Sahm as well but she modeled some I think, not runway model thou.
Aegon is a pothead/frat boy obviously, he only parties at college. Not caring if he graduates or not, Vis probably pays the uni a shit ton of money. Every once in awhile he puts an effort for classes :) He dresses like a frat boy and a stoner had a baby. Slides 99.8% of the time, hoodies that have his frat house name Or university name on it. He owns one part of jeans and slacks(they stay at home 99%). Smells like cigarette smoke, small vanilla notes and whiskey. Knows he can get away with failing school, getting pulled over, screwing girls. He knows Alicent loves him bc he’s her first baby. He’s not dumb as people think he is. He loves his mama too but kinda takes advantage of it.
Aemond is a Harvard baby through and through! Most likely an English major, but he also gives me medical school vibes(personally for me). He puts school first, he knows not everyone can get into Harvard so he appreciates that he did. Ameond is the campus mysterious heartthrob. Girls and gays love him! He’s 6’5, blonde with shoulder length hair, wears leather and black clothing w/sliver rings. Little whore! Also he has his scar on his eye. Obviously dragons aren’t real for us. So Aemond and Luke didn’t fight each other over Vhgar. I’m thinking he lost it on accident, maybe Vis took him and Aegon knife throwing or one of the neighbors kids and him were playing with sticks or something. Personally the scar is what made fall in love with him. It’s him no matter what au it is. It shaped him to who he is as a person. He’s a huge mama’s boy! He don’t hide it either, he loves Alicent.
When he comes home from school for the summer and Christmas, he brings gifts for her and Heleana. Stuff he saw while he was out one Saturday, little trinkets, shoes, books. Anything that reminded him of his mom and sister. Also does this for his S/O, he’s just a sweet emo boy!
Heleana still loves her bugs and other creepy crawlers! We stan Helena the bug queen in this house 💚 she’s the quiet girl that is always reading a book, drawing in her sketch pad. Has earbuds in, but will take them out if anyone talks to her. Loves old English literature and plays. She loves NYC and broadway, she gives me NYU vibes. Definitely lives in NYC but goes upstate a lot bc of nature. Also I think she would be a witch or at least into paganism. Aemond is close to Salem, MA so he goes and gets her stuff from the shops. He has 6 tarot decks that he plans on taking home along with crystals and books he got for her. TSA workers hate Aemond bc he goes over the weight limit with his suitcases.
Alicent, my favorite mom! Okay so, Alicent was Vis’ sugar baby when she was 20ish. Went to school with Nrya and ended marrying her dad. But I don’t think they hate each other in this AU, probably not each other’s fans. I think Nrya and Harwin are together, probably met on a photo shoot set. Harwin was definitely a model or an actor in his day. Anyways! Alicent got pregnant with Aegon before the wedding, you could see her bump in her dress. Vis works 24:7 so Alicent got very close with Aegon as a baby. Aegon looks after her always has! She was very involved with school when the kids were little. PTA mom, sports mom, art/theater mom, she always supports her kids and their activities. Calls them each everyday to see what’s new, are you sick?, how’s the money looking? She used to feel insecure about being a young mom, but now she’s 43 and her kids are in college. She has so much free time now! Definitely the hot mom, also the cool mom(mean girls hey!). Alicent was meant to be a mother, she truly loves her kids and wants the best for them. She don’t give me toxic mother in law vibes
Nrya is the first child of Vis, so he is crazy over her. He’s still in Nrya’s lane, but he talks to the other kids moreish. Nrya became a model her junior year of college. Has been covers of vogue, vanity fair, a bunch of wedding mags. It’s how she met her husband, Harwin. They fell in love and had Jace, Luke, Joff, the twins. Definitely a boy mom but she loves being a mom.

Ahsoka Series, But Kaeden Is There, And She's Super Cryptic This Time
Spoilers for Ahsoka Episode 5
Hera, seeing Kaeden chilling in the middle of a weird rock formation chilling on her phone with the space birb Sabine drew on her armor once: What happened? What's going on? Where's Ahsoka? And where's Sabine?!
Kaeden, not even looking up: Jedi Force bullshit stuff happened, it'll all make sense in a bit.
Hera: Do you... Know what happened?
Kaeden: yeah but I'd rather explain it once and I don't know all the details.
Jacen: can I pet the bird?
...
Jacen: I hear someone fighting in the ocean! Maybe Ahsoka's out there!
Kaeden, still chilling: damn, sounds like a pretty intense therapy session.
Jacen: ???
...
*Hera ordering extra searches once Jacen tells her the stuff*
Carlson: what?
Kaeden: Jacen's a little Jedi, his dad was a Jedi too, just go with it.
...
*Ahsoka wakes up and sees Kaeden reading a book with two piles of books next to her*
Ahsoka, sighing: how many books have you read?
Kaeden: Four.
Ahsoka, flopping back down onto her bed: a whole twenty-four hours and I'm still exhausted.
Kaeden, smirking: Guess that's what you get when you avoid therapy or any kind of emotional healing for twenty something years.
Ahsoka: oh shut up
*then they kiss cause they love each other*
...
*Kaeden, explaining the situation*
Kaeden: okay, while Ahsoka was off getting some therapy and emotional healing slammed into her by the Force itself, Baylan manipulated Sabien into giving him the map and they got the coordinates and they took Sabine with them. I think she is coming back with a Jedi girlfriend.
Jacen, very excited: I get a new aunt?!
Kaeden: Yes, I like your attitude about this.
...
*Shin sees Sabine's sketch book open*
Shin: Why are you drawing me so much?
Sabine: 😳
...
*Ahsoka the white happens*
Kaeden: damn, you look good~😏
Ahsoka: not in front of Jacen, Kae😉
...
Carlson to New Republic people, reading from notes Kaeden gave him: so they are going to ride the purgil and find out what the Imperial remnants are up to out there, and Kaeden Larte says "Fuck the whole Senate except for Organa and kinda Mon Mothma but not entirely, get a better hold on your senate, the Empire isn't dead idiots"
NR Fleet: ...
*Ahsoka goes out to talk with the purgil*
Kaeden, to Morai: told you it'd be the whales, you owe me fifty credits
Morai: *annoyed divine birb sounds*
Bonus, Omega(from bad batch) x Miara Larte!:
Miara: I haven't heard from Kaeden in a while, you think she's okay?
Omega, doing some space magic practice: Probably? I can check real quick.
*does space magic*
Omega: Mia honey, your sister's in a purgil.
Miara, sighing: do we gotta get involved?
Omega: maybe? I kinda wanna ride a space whale.
Miara: alright let's go, I was getting a little bored anyway.
*Omega and Miara suit up in Mandalorian armor and call up a space whale with nightsister magic to take them to where the action is*
That's it. I enjoy a good cryptic slightly chaotic Kaeden, being married to Ahsoka comes with that.
Also Nightsister Omega is one of my favorite things so I shoved it in here.
Be back Wednesday for part 4!

I miss you
(Mother Miranda x fem!reader)
Tumblr media
*image creds to the owner
Word count: 724
I gave the reader a name at the end, she's called Elizabeth (Eliza for short).
I got this idea from an specific scene from the book The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It's a few letters exchanged by Miranda and Eliza. Just angst, sorry.
ps: not proofread, sorry for any mistakes.
----------------------------------------------------
(1898 - age 8)
It was a sunny afternoon at the village. You and Miranda were hiding near a cave to read this new book supposedly about an old kingdom named Camelot.
You were sitting side by side, with you doing the reading and Miranda resting her head on your shoulder.
"Is this all true?" Miranda asked.
You paused the book and furrowed your brows. "I'm not sure."
She lifted and tilted her head in confusion. "Then, why are you reading it?"
You smiled. "For fun."
Miranda pouted. "I do not understand you."
You laughed and shook your head. "It's hard to explain. It's like there's no logic, you just find a character like you, relate to them and read it to the end. The reason I'm reading is to find out what happens to Merlin, and Arthur obviously."
Miranda huffed. "How could you relate to an elderly magician?"
You laughed. "Physical characteristics aside, even though he is different from everyone else, he still found true friendship. I suppose I like that." You responded with a shy shrug.
She slowly nodded, deeply in thought. "Can I be Arthur?"
You smiled. "Of course, we'll always be best friends."
𓄿
(1905)
Hi,
I apologize for leaving so suddenly. Father has forbidden me from seeing you ever since that night, and only a few days ago he decided to move to another town. My brother, Luke, said he would help me with the letters. After all, father can't find out about this, I don't know what he would do if that happened.
I'm sorry again, I hope you can forgive me.
Your magician,
Merlin
𓄿
Hello,
My dear, I never blamed you for leaving, you have told me many times of your family. Thankfully, mine does not care for me, therefore I am still "free".
I am truly glad your brother has decided to help with the delivery. My day brightens with news of you, even though nothing compares to having you by my side.
How is the new village? awful?
Your highness,
Arthur
𓄿
Hi,
To answer your question, yes the town is awful. Father has not only pulled me away from you but also forbidden me from leaving the house without him, as if I would run away. (I would)
What truly pains me the most is not seeing you. These past few months have felt like a decade without you here.
I wish I could see you again.
Your lov best friend,
Merlin
𓄿
(1909)
Hi, best mother of the world
My brother just brought the news, I'm so happy for you. I already adore the child. Eva is also a beautiful name. Was it inspired by the bible? and you said you didn't like fiction.
I've been trying to visit you the town. Things in my house have been calmer since Ew Edward arrived. I believe they're trying to arrange my marriage.
please save me
Your elderly,
Merlin
𓄿
Hello,
Eva is such a blessing, it is impressive how something this perfect came out of that disgusting man. Unfortunately the name was taken from that book, his family is religious.
I have also been saving some money for you. I promise we will see each other again.
Yours truly,
Arthur
𓄿
(1910)
This is Luke.
I am sorry for skipping the introductions, but this matter was urgent and I don't have much time. William saw your letters, I tried to defend my sister but once Edward interrupted I knew I couldn't win against them both.
They sent her away, I don't know where, and I'm sorry for that.
I tried recovering some of her sketches but they burned most of it, I only got one.
For what it's worth, she seemed to really love you.
From: Luke
𓄿
(unsent)
Dear Miranda,
Mira,
Dear?
Hi,
This letter is already starting very badly.
Things are weird in my house, father has been more observant than usual. Is it odd that I don't care?
I met this merchant, well, his son, duke. They said I could accompany them to our town. Fantastic, right?
I'm so happy to see you, I've missed you terribly. And I must meet little Eva. and steal her
See you soon ♡
I love you, Mira
Yours forever,
Mer Eliza
𓄿
(1919)
(unsent)
I miss you.
Please be alive.
I will find you.

Art - Mal
Mal x sister reader

“Hey Mal, I was ju-” Y/n started as she entered their dorm room but stopped upon noticing Mal looking through a sketchbook. Her sketchbook that y/n thought she had hid.
Mal and Y/n had a love for art in common. Y/n used it more as a way to vent out any feelings she had. Feelings were viewed as weak back on the Isle, so Y/n expressed them silently through her artwork. Artwork that no one was ever supposed to find.
“What is this?” Mal asked looking up at her twin in confusion and concern.
“Mal” she sighed out, not having ever wanted to have this conversation with anyone let alone her sister.
“Y/n, you always say you draw what you feel. Is this how you’ve been feeling?” Now Mal was getting more concerned about her sister. Was she not liking Auradon?
“Mal.” Y/n stopped her sister's mind from running by just saying her name. Y/n moved to sit next to her sister on her bed. “That’s my sketchbook from the Isle.”
Mal sat there for a minute in thought before turning to face Y/n with a furrowed expression. “But we always had fun back on the Isle.?”
“We did. We had some fun. But Mal, you never got the bunt of Mom’s anger. I did. It only got worse when you first went to Auradon.” Y/n explained to her sister the short version and spared her any of the particularly nasty details. “It made me a little depressed at times.”
The two VK twins sat there in silence for a little bit. Mal was clearly digesting the new information about her sister's old home life with their mother. While Y/n sat there feeling a little better that she had told at least her sister a tiny bit of what use to go on.
“I had no idea.” Mal shook her head, not believing how she never noticed anything. “I’m a horrible sister.”
“Mal, your not a horrible sister. I hid how I felt and didn’t mention it to anyone. It’s not your fault you didn’t notice. I’ve always been the sneaker one out of the two of us.” Y/n joined pulling her sister into her embrace, trying to lighten the mood a little.
“From now on you’ll talk to me if you ever feel like this again, right?” Mal questioned her sister hoping if she did ever feel like that again she’d at least talk to her.
“You’ll be the first one I talk to. Promise.” Y/n smiled at her sister as they pulled out of their hug.

and a happy new year!
@brooksienewman @cagenewman @elliot-newman @lucie-newman
Kellan -
For the blueberry king, I've continued working on repurposed gold and freeforming metal work and made this 18k gold ring with you in mind with Montana sapphires scattered in since you keep the farm and the family and all the memories together. I'm hoping it'll be an heirloom for you one day to pass day to whomever you choose whether that's someone important to you, a future spouse, a future child, or just someone important in your life. The rest I went with extra cozy things for kicking around the farm. A hat to keep you warm, a extra cozy pull over when just lounging around, and a thin puffer jacket when you just need to run out quick and pull something on. Hope you know how much you mean to me even if I don't say it as often as I should. Love ya big bro. xx
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cage -
Know you're not really a random 'ring' guy but you got me back into working on jewelry and while I can work on traditional jewelry pretty easily I've been back to exploring freeforming metal design with recycled metals and this is the design that just came to me. Something that maybe you'll pass down to Colton someday. There's a 'N' inscribed on the inside for Newman so you'll know who to pass it to whenever that day comes. It's 18k all repurposed ethically with responsibly sourced brown and champagne diamonds. The band has a twisted look to give it the look of wood. Figure that gives you a bit of your touch. The rest you get a knit beanie, a leather bound book for all the pieces you need to draw and sketch you're going to make, and for Colton a kick ass outfit. The kicker, you have a ton of outfits to match him but I found a whole set for him to match with Rosalyn and Cordelia so now they can be the cool ones all together. Basically yes I made them that awesome. You're welcome. Love you xx
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elliot -
As I've been saying to a lot of people, and mostly Cage's fault, I've gotten back into working on jewelry and right now I've been working with recycled metals, and organically worked pieces. For you I used 18k gold and light montana sapphires for a band that'll fit your middle finger. Then I tried to go cozy and practical for the rest. A beanie and sweater in a color that I think just screams you, and a bag that goes from gym bag to backpack because who doesn't need multiuse products? You're the best big brother and I know I haven't gotten to say that as much lately but I hope you know that and I love you. xx
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lucie -
To my sister who I adore to pieces, I put the most time into your piece because well, I figured you would probably understand my love for working on a project that we're passionate like this the most. Not that our brothers don't they have their own things but I think you get it in a different way. I created this freeform 18k deep Montana sapphire and raw diamond ring for you to wear. It should fit your pointer finger but if you want it sized for something different let me know and it's a quick fix for me. I just hope you like it, it's probably one of my favorite things I've done in a long time. Then I went super cozy this winter with a beanie, the most cozy sweater to cuddle up in for movie nights, and slippers to keep your feet warm. Love you sis. xx

some highlights from the convention this weekend:
forgetting to check nametags and ending up playing pinball against Andrew C. Robinson
... having a rematch the next day.
... and the next.
him asking about my SFX makeup - a conversation which ended in him following me on Instagram
and encouraging Cary Nord to follow me as well
1.29% of all my Instagram followers are now made up of Marvel comic artists (I do not have a lot of followers)
Andrew giving me a bunch of extra prints and a couple art books at the end of the con
and offering to network me with some of his propmaking and wardrobe friends in LA since I'm working on getting into the special effects industry
dare I say we're friends now?
setting a new high score on the Venom pinball machine
getting to chat with my theatre friend who was an invited panelist (he's a cosplayer)
competing in my first cosplay contest! I lost, but I got to show off my mechanical hand prop
meeting Tait Fletcher
watching my sister beat Tait Fletcher's high score on Ms. Pac-Man
...then watching him utterly crush her score in one attempt
receiving a very wonderful film-tech pep talk from Chris Bartlett, urging me to keep making props and just dive in since that's how he ended up on Star Wars
he also complimented my Donald Pierce hand :)
meeting Tony Daniels and geeking out about X-Men
didn't have the budget to drop 40 bucks on an autograph but it was really awesome to talk to him
getting signed prints from Tim Townsend, Andrew Robinson, and Todd Nauck
Tim Townsend's print is the OG 5 X-Men so it's got my boy Angel of course :D
getting to play a super neat indie platformer demo (i'm gonna buy the full game for sure)
freaking out a bunch of comic artists with my Corinthian makeup
....including Chris Bachalo
HE asked for a picture with ME because he was so impressed with the makeup! :)
chatting with more comic artists, showing off my tattoo, chatting about the process of sketching and inking
picking up some neat Venom and X-Men earrings
winning a cool articulated snake from this 3D printing claw machine
getting to chat with some really cool craftsmen and collectors at the vending booths
overall just having a really wonderful time!

TAG SOMEONE YOU WANT TO KNOW AND/OR SOME OF YOUR BESTIES
Tagged by @kikiroo - thank you, my darling!!! *friendly shark bites at you*
Last song: Probably either The Man or Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift. I just spent a week with my sister on vacation and she had just watched the Eras Tour movie so she was getting both of those stuck in my head all the time, and then we'd have to listen to them ofc.
Last movie: It was Host by Rob Savage (or at least it was when I started this, lol). I watched it 'cause I saw something on Insta about the Top 10 Scariest Movies according to what the average resting heart rate is for it. I didn't find it very scary (got me at the end though, woo boy) but I did love it - but then I love things that use the pandemic well and this definitely did imo. Plus it's all structured around (and shot through) a Zoom interface so it's only, like, fifty-seven minutes long because that's all you get when you don't pay for Zoom, haha.
Currently watching: Goosebumps, Last Week Tonight, The Fall of the House of Usher, Two Sentence Horror Stories, Our Flag Means Death and Ghost Files and I am half-assing all of it. I've either only started the first episode or only watched the first episode on all of those. I have no staying power these days. Though I am only one ep behind on Last Week Tonight \o/
Other stuff I watched this year: Unfortunately for you guys, I write fucking everything down and it is now the tenth month of the year. I GOT RECS. Well, Meg 2: The Trench, which is a cinematic masterpiece and I will take no questions on that (unless they're Joming related). (Cognizant of the month) Here are spooky things I watched this year and liked a lot: X, The Black Phone, The Menu, Terrifier and Terrifier 2 (this is definitely only for gore fans though), Bodies Bodies Bodies, Cocaine Bear (also a cinematic masterpiece, also not taking questions), Interview with the Vampire, Wednesday, Severance, Evil, The Last of Us, Over the Garden Wall, Magpie Murders, What We Do in the Shadows, and Shining Vale (haven't started the second season yet!). Also really liked: Paddington, Nimona, Barbie, Spider-man: Across the Spider-verse, Vivo, Derry Girls, The Bear, The Boys, Mythic Quest, Only Murders in the Building (I haven't watched the new season yet though but I expect great things), Reboot, Tuca & Bertie, Los Espookys, Barry, Extraordinary, Crashing (I literally watched it three times in a row - watching Sam and Fred fall in love 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 plus I fucking love Jonathan Bailey - I consistently find him ridiculously charming), Hacks, Avenue 5 (so sad this got canceled when I feel like it just hit its stride), Staged (I've watched it probably six times now), Abbott Elementary, A Black Lady Sketch Show, Ted Lasso, I Think You Should Leave Now (just for that one sketch, you know the one and, if you don't, I am HAPPY to tell you about it!), Unstable (petition for Fred Armisen to be in everything though, right?), Black Mirror, Central Park, Elite (I haven't watched the new season yet!), Reservation Dogs (ditto), The White Lotus, Good Omens, Letterkenny, Minx (what's ditto but for the third time?), Heartstopper, Sasaki and Miyano, and The Other Two.
Shows I dropped/didn’t finish: I'm behind on everything all the time so I'm only going to answer for shows I dropped and I don't think I've dropped any this year?
Currently reading: The Dead Take the A Train by Cassandra Khaw & Richard Kadrey (about halfway through), House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski (I'll be reading this until I die, I think), Cunk on Everything by Philomena Cunk, The Fragile Threads of Power by V.E. Schwab (nearly finished!), The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith, My Darling Girl by Jennifer McMahon and The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice (decided to do a reread of the IwtV series this year since I never actually finished it and only got to book ten and I read it way too long ago to remember anything that's happening if I just picked it up now).
Currently listening to: My calendar alarm telling me to go to my dog's vet appointment.
Currently working on: getting at least a third of the way through My Darling Girl
Also absolutely no pressure tagging @andavs, @callunavulgari, @piratefalls, @clotpolesonly, and anyone else who wants to do this!

I need to read scout being eaten alive by his intrusive thoughts that tell his to go up to heavy and slap his bald head because in his mind it would probably make a nice meaty sound. Will he resist temptation or will he give in and probably die a horrible death? This my friend is up to you to decide.
Oh god. The temptation…
Warning: none!
Rating: General
When you’re the new guy at work, you wanna make a good first impression. A really good first impression when your job involves killing people all day. Scout is absolutely certain that everyone admires his muscular body and “rock hard” abs. That’s not even counting his utterly incredible, loving personality that makes Spy wish he was Scout. Suffice to say, Scout thinks he’s the best guy in town.
Since starting his job, he’s been plagued by a single thought. One really, really stupid one that doesn’t even make sense. Everyday, he sees Heavy’s bald head, and everyday, he fights the urge to smack it. Just giving it a good slap to hear what it sounds like. It’s driving him mad!
Scout has only worked for the scary purple milf for two weeks now. Nowhere near long enough to familiarize himself with everyone let alone build any sort of trust. Except maybe Pyro. They like coloring in his sketches. Aside from them, he’s practically a stranger to everyone including Heavy.
The temptation remains. Every night, he imagines how it would play out. In his delusional mind, everyone laughs and moves on. In his realistic mind, Heavy throttles him. Scout really hopes his delusional mind is right this time.
A week goes by, and he’s still thinking about it. Scout sits at the dining room table with a half empty bowl of cereal. He already ate the good parts leaving soggy boring bits to float around. He tries to choke them down, mind buzzing with that stupid idea. He has to do it. Its the only way to get it out of his head.
Milk gulped down and bowl set in the dishwasher, Scout quietly enters the common room. Heavy always reads after breakfast, and here he is with another book. Scout doesn’t bother peeking. All he cares about is slapping that bald ass head.
Slowly, ever so slowly, he creeps behind the giant. With seven older brothers, you learn how to sneak up on a guy. Its the only way to get any of the good snacks before they’re gone. His only hope is to outrun Heavy’s fist.
Hand raised, careful not to cast a shadow (that’s how his brothers used to catch him), Scout lands a resounding SMACK to Heavy’s head. As he turns to run, a massive fist reaches out and grips his shoulder. Scout is flung over the couch, crashing straight through the coffee table. The pile of cracked wood stabs Scout uncomfortably as he groans.
“How’d you get me so fast, dude?” Scout doesn’t bother moving. He sits in his shameful mess, trying to recover from what’s probably a fractured rib. Heavy places a bookmaker in his novel before shutting it. He leans forward to look down at Scout.
“Have little sisters. Be sneakier.” With that, he takes his leave. Scout sighs, looking at the ceiling while he waits for the pain to stop. At least he got his answer.

Episode 1.01
“Yeah, I can pick that up.” She pursed her lips and closed her eyes as she listened to the voice on the other end of the call. “Mom, I got it. I know what size Fallon wears.”
She tapped the end call button and dropped her phone into the opening of her tote bag. She paused for a moment before collecting her bearings of where she was in the mall. She was only a few stores away from Imagination, the children’s clothing store. Pop music filtered over the different speakers until she was closer to the store, and she heard more of the kidz bop version of songs, than the actual songs.
The store smelled like cotton candy; the walls decorated with pictures of kids who looked like they had just walked off the set of a Disney Channel show. Bright smiles, perfectly done hair, bold colored clothing. This wasn’t really her first choice to shop for Fallon, but it was the one her mother wanted her to shop at. Try and keep Fallon a little girl as long as possible, she was almost a teenager though and most of what was available at the shop screamed preschooler instead.
“Shopping for Fallon?”
The friendly voice caused her to turn around, “Hey Maggie, yeah, Mom wants her to have some more cardigans.”
The blond nodded as she led her deeper into the store, “These should work. They’re a bit mature, classic, they should grow with Fallon for a year or two before she becomes a teenager and wants to pick her own stuff.”
She chuckled, “Oh, I sure did. I think that might be why my mom is so insistent on what exactly Fallon wears. Trying to keep her tame before she does something silly and dyes her hair teal.”
“Abby Adams with teal hair? I can’t see that.”
“I was fifteen, I was rebelling.” She searched through the rack for Fallon’s size, “But things happen, like becoming an older sister suddenly.”
“You’re a good older sister.” Maggie reminded her as she pulled out two cardigans in different colors and handed them to Abby, “if Fallon asks these are very Taylor Swift.”
Abby smiled, “She’ll love them.”
“Let me know if you need to find anything else.” Maggie looked around the store to see a customer going towards the register.
“Thanks Maggie, hopefully this is it.” She moved around the area of the store, finding a few more things that would suit her sister, and her mother would approve of.
After she paid and left the store, she made her way to the bookstore. Right on the front table was a display of all the books written by Chad Davis, a giant picture of him. He was a hometown name after all. She picked up the latest title and turned over the back, reading the synopsis; Teenage Wick wasn’t sure he could survive without his girlfriend Sketch. Yet their families kept them apart. Years later Sketch has been kidnapped, and Wick is an FBI agent sent to find her. Will he find more than just his first love?
Rolling her eyes she opened the dedication page, “To the real Sketch, I’m so sorry.” She kept the book in her hand as she moved to another table, looking for a copy of Fourth Wing for her book club. She found one, collecting it with a couple of other books she had found for herself as well as a few she found for Fallon and a book her mother wanted for her own book club.
After leaving the bookstore she walked towards the food court, stopping in at the coffee house. She needed a caffeine boost. “Abby, here you go.” She hadn’t even ordered yet and her best friend since the third grade was handing her a cup.
“Thank you, how did you know I was coming in?” She took a sip of the cold coffee, feeling her body relax as she ingested it.
Pam smiled, “I saw you pass by earlier. I knew you wouldn’t leave without stopping in. Mom, have you shopping for the sister again?”
“And some other errands.” Abby shrugged, “I had to get some stuff for my book club, for Mom’s too so at least I got to the bookstore.”
“You get Chad Davis’s new book? I heard that Marcy wants to make it next months pick.” She rolled her eyes, “Like that is going to help win over his brother Kip, or anyone in that family. I don’t think Chad has stepped foot in Pinon Hallow since high school.”
Abby shrugged, “No clue, and I saw it. I don’t know, his stuff isn’t my usual read.”
“Neither is Fourth Wing.” Pam snickered, “Just be glad that’s not the one your mom will be reading.”
“Wait why?” Abby took another sip of her coffee, “Her book club is doing some Hockey Romance or something. I think it was called Icebreaker.”
Pam covered her mouth with her hand, “Oh Mrs. Adams is going to be reading Icebreaker? Who picked it?”
“I don’t know, why?”
“It’s supposed to be spicy; I mean so is Fourth Wing, but that from what I have seen online is tame in comparison.”
Abby put her cup down and started laughing, “Constance Radford picked it, I think. Oh, I bet she has no idea.” She looked in the bag from the bookstore, “Oh I bet she saw the cover and thought it was just cute and sweet. I might have to just steal this copy from my mom once she realizes what it is and is scandalized.”
Pam put her arm around Abby’s shoulder, “I’m going to be honest; I don’t think your mom will be scandalized, but it will be glorious when Constance Radford is, isn’t this for the Church book club?”
“Yeah, it is.” Abby tried to keep the laugh in, but she couldn’t. “Oh, that will be a fun night when they meet.”
Pam didn’t respond, she kept her eyes on the guy walking by. He had several other guys their age walking with them. One had a camera out.
“Seriously Pam, still? Do you not remember what he was like in high school? Plus, have you seen what his videos are like? Maybe it’s an act, but I doubt it. He’s still the same slimeball he was when we were younger.” Abby watched her friend; she could see the defeated expression coming over her.
“I could fix him.” Pam finally suggested.
Abby groaned, “Oh Pam, you don’t want a man you need to fix. You want a man, that wants to build something with you. Create a life with you. Not one that just wants to create content.”
“You know he tried to revive the cinnamon challenge last week.” Pam kept her eyes as he stood in front of the shoe store across the hall.
Abby shook her head, “Think about all the stupid stuff Kip did when we were in high school. We’re in our late twenties now Pam, he’s still doing that stupid kind of stuff and posting it on YouTube.”
“Point taken.” Pam shrugged, “Are you going to join us at Moonlight tonight?”
“I don’t know. I must finish a project that’s due on Monday.”
“Then why are you at the mall right now?” Pam countered.
Abby looked at her bags, “Had to get out of the house. Mom was working from home too and it was just too much.”
“Move out. Why are you still living with your parents?”
Abby sighed, “I’m a freelancer, I don’t have steady work now. I’m just trying to save what I can so one day I am not worried about money.”
“I could always give you a good deal on an apartment.” Pam reminded her.
Abby looked towards the fountain in the middle of the food court, “I know, but right now I need to still be at home.”
“Whatever you say. Please tell me you at least got Fallon something cute and not like a four-year-old would wear?”
“Yeah, Maggie helped me out a bit.” Abby felt a chill through her body for a moment, someone near the fountain caught her eye, but they were gone before she could see who it was.
Pam heard her name called from behind the coffee bar, “Text me later.”
“I will, I got to get going anyways.” Abby thanked her for the coffee again before leaving the coffee house. The mall was surprisingly busy for a weekday afternoon as she made her way past the fountain towards the outdoor promenade of stores, past the valet parking towards the lot. She felt the wind blow, and a shiver go through her body as she got into her Jeep Grand Cherokee.
She attempted to ignore the feeling as she started the engine. Maybe it was just the conversation with Pam, or the display in the bookstore. Yeah, that was probably it.
####
Maggie checked the time on her phone as she left the store. She was feeling rushed this afternoon as she made her way down the hall to the bookstore. She had scoured her bookshelves the past two nights looking for her copy of Emma, only to get a text message from her sister that she’d borrowed it for a book report.
Normally Maggie wouldn’t care, and would be thrilled that Cassie cared to read, let alone read Jane Austin, however it was this month’s selection for the book club she took part in. They had decided to read all of Jane’s books, starting with Emma. She did chuckle to herself at the selection, thinking Pride and Prejudice would be the first pick.
At least getting another copy would be easy enough. Though she wasn’t expecting the store to be as full as it was when she walked through the doors, moving around the display in the front, trying to dodge the booktok table, and almost getting knocked into a selection of cookbooks by people with failed daytime television shows.
“You good Maggie?” Conner McKay had caught her before she took out the pile of discounted cookbooks.
She gulped as she got lost in his eyes for a second, that was all she could allow herself to have, “Yeah, sorry just trying to get to the classics.”
“Cassie has your copy, doesn’t she?”
“Yeah.” Maggie shrugged as she ran a hand through her blond hair, “I’m thrilled she borrowed it; the timing could’ve been better.”
“Which one is it?” He walked with her to the section, feeling the crowd thin out.
Maggie looked around, “What has the store so busy today?”
Conner rolled his eyes, “New Chad Davis book got released. People still think he’ll show up to do a book signing. He never has. I only do the display right in front to keep Adel happy.”
“I fear the day that Kip knocks one of his groupies up and she or he wants a clothing sponsorship.” Maggie confessed as she reached for a copy of Emma.
“That is scary for a number of reasons.” Conner laughed, “I’m going to let you browse, I have to go check on Eric up front.”
“Thanks.” She bit her lip as she watched him walk towards the register area. She had been flirting with him since they met, and well nothing. For now, she would just have to stick with having a book boyfriend, if she couldn’t even get the attention of a real-life man.
Conner was silently cursing himself again as he walked away. Why could he never actually ask her for a cup of coffee, or a drink, or what did people even do these days for dates. He hadn’t gone on one since he was in college—and that had led to a baby and marriage shortly after. A daughter who was now sixteen, who only saw her mother in TikTok videos of all places—at least it wasn’t only fans.
“You didn’t ask her out again, right?” Eric shook his head as he worked on stocking the reusable shopping bags under the counter.
“No, I didn’t.” Conner sighed as he looked around the sales floor. “Lysa adores her, Bethany is never coming back—and I wouldn’t want to repeat that anyways. I don’t know what I’m scared of.”
“Moving forward.” Eric started to shrug and then stopped midway as he looked at the entrance of the store.
Conner followed his glance to the entrance, “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
Eric shook his head, “Shouldn’t she be trying to live in some random country for like $200 a month?”
“Yeah, last I knew.” Conner rolled his eyes as he walked over to the one woman he didn’t want to deal with. “Hey Bethany, looking for a travel book?”
She smiled, “Hey Conner, I was looking for you.”
“You should’ve called.” Conner crossed his arms over his chest as he looked down at his ex-wife, even in heels she was still tiny. “Have you spoken to Lysa?”
“Not yet.” She adjusted her purse strap, “I wanted to talk to you first.”
“Are you even going to see her this time?”
“I am.” She took an unsteady breath as she looked at him, “I’m going to be in town for a little bit. I’m working on a travel book. I have a deal with a publisher in Denver.”
“I hope you found a nice Air B&B or something like that.” He was terrified she was about to ask to stay with him and their daughter.
“I have my parents house.” She told him, “When they moved to Arizona, they sold it to me.”
Conner bit the inside of his cheek as he listened to her, “Good for you. If you want my help with Lysa, I can’t give it to you. You need to be the one to call her, to tell her you’re in town. You want to see her; you work to set it up. She’s sixteen now, she can make the decision to see you or not herself.”
“She’s fourteen Conner.”
“Sixteen Bethany, you’ve been gone for twelve years.”
Bethany was frozen for a moment, “You’re right.” She couldn’t believe she had gotten her only daughter’s age wrong. “I’m still jetlagged obviously. I will call her and set up a lunch this weekend.”
“Good luck with that.” Conner looked towards Eric, “The sooner, the better. People have seen you. It’s only a matter of time before Lysa finds out you’re in town. The longer you wait to tell her, the less likely she’ll be to talk with you or see you.”
He didn’t wait for her to reply, he walked back to the register desk. If Bethany didn’t call Lysa by tomorrow night, then he would sit her down and let her know. It really was a matter of time considering Eric, who loved to spill the tea as he said mentioned something if she dropped by the store.
“Is she gone?”
“Yeah Boss.” He passed him his phone, “Lysa was calling while you were over there. I didn’t answer.”
Conner looked at the young college student in the eyes, “Do not mention that Bethany was here. It’s the last thing Lysa needs to find out.”
“Yeah, Maggie didn’t look thrilled either while she checked out.”
“Maggie knows about Bethany, everything she’s done.”
Eric lifted himself onto the back counter to sit, “Boss, if you and Maggie are close enough that you can tell her about the ex. You’re close enough your daughter likes her, then just ask her out. She is clearly crazy about you.”
“I doubt that.”
“Fine, she’s just trying to get to you for the book discount. She did buy five books today.” Eric picked up his phone, “Yes, my food is almost here.”
Conner rolled his eyes as he checked the time, “I have to go. Can you handle this on your own?”
“Yes, I’m not going to burn the store down or anything.”
Conner knew Eric wouldn’t burn the store down, he really did. He just was afraid he would get sucked into whatever hot social media app was at the moment.
####
“Thank you for coming Detective Lane.” The officer led her under the crime scene tape as they moved through the wooded area of the local park.
“What do we have?” she pulled her dark hair back into a short, tight ponytail as she got closer to the crime scene.
“White male, early thirties we believe, beaten, left for dead.”
She nodded as the paramedics started to transfer the body. “Any ID?”
“Just this.” He passed her a Colorado Drivers Liscense.
“Shit.” She saw the name and then looked at the victim, “Get him to Memorial, we’ll work on notifying the family. Hopefully they’ll have some answers about what happened.”
“It doesn’t look like this is where he was attacked, just dumped.” One of the crime scene engineers pointed out several aspects of the scene. “If he hadn’t been found when he was, he would probably be dead.”
“Who found him?”
“He did.” The uniform pointed to the young man giving a statement to another uniformed officer.
“This kid, seriously?” She shook her head.
“Something wrong Siobhan?”
The thick voice caused her to turn around, “Lucas, you’ll never believe who discovered the body.”
He followed her glance, “Wait, seriously? The delivery boy?”
She nodded, “I can’t deal with that kid, will you please take his statement?”
He chuckled, “Fine, I got this but that means you notify the family.”
“I got it.” She watched as he was loaded into the ambulance before she took out her cell phone and walked away from the crowds of people. She searched through her contacts, she had lived in this town for so long, she almost always knew a victim’s family. This one though, he hadn’t been in town in many years.
The number she selected dialed, and the line started trilling. Before she had even taken one deep breath the call answered, “Hey, perfect timing.”
“Not really.” She didn’t give a greeting, “I’m actually calling on police business.”
“What’s going on?”
“Brighton, he’s on his way to Memorial Hospital here in town. He was found beaten, near death this afternoon.” Siobhan looked over as her partner laughed with the witness. She felt herself shiver.
“I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
“If you give me your parents number I can call them. They can probably make it faster from Arizona.”
“I’m in town. And my parents won’t help Brighton.”
“Oh, okay. I’ll see you at Memorial then.” Siobhan hung up, processing the information she’d just been given.
“Lane, you, okay?” Lucas waved his hand in front of her face.
She blinked a couple of times, “Yeah, I’m good. I just wasn’t expecting this family member to be in town.”
“We’ve got to get over to the hospital, see what the situation is, okay?”
“Yeah, you got the kid’s statement?”
“I did.” Be shook his head, “I don’t know why he irritates you so much.”
Siobhan looked back at him as he got into his Nissan, “He was delivering a pizza three weeks ago to a house just as we went in for a raid on their drug lab.”
“Wait, that was--.”
“And then, he was the one who witnessed that incident downtown when that guy drove into the shoe store.”
Lucas nodded, “Yeah, he’s got some bad luck.”
“Anyways, let’s get over to memorial and hope that Trista is on duty.”
####
“I don’t want to lose them. They’re a major anchor store for the mall.” Adel Davis paced around the living room of her family’s large estate, her phone on speaker.
“We understand, but we might not have a choice.” The person on the other end spoke.
“We need to keep them, and if God forbid, we can’t then let’s make sure we can get that space filled within a month. An empty space like that could ruin us.” She ended the call, for a moment wishing for the days when she could slam the phone down.
“The mall is always bustling Mom, no need to worry.” Her youngest son came into the room, for once not followed by the so-called camera crew he usually had trailing behind him.
“Kip, what brings you away from the cameras?” Perhaps she should’ve sent him off to school with his brother, at the very least he had a career, but he never came home.
“Getting ready to go and meet the guys for Taco Thursday.” He picked up one of the decorative glass balls sitting on the coffee table, “I saw dear Brother’s new book came out.”
“Yes, it did.” Adel braced herself, never sure what Kip would notice, say, bring up.
Kip tossed the glass ball in the air as he leaned on the arm of the white sofa, “I read it on my Kindle this morning. What a silly story. I can’t believe people buy his books.”
“Your brother is a very talented writer.” His father told him as he came into the room. “You are a talented content creator, even if I still don’t really get it.”
Kip rolled his eyes, “About that.”
“Yeah?” Adel perked up, perhaps her son would finally use that college education he had for something, anything besides sitting in his room and streaming video games all day.
“I was wondering if I could use the pool house, turn it into my studio. I’m looking to expand the kind of content I create.”
Adel looked towards her husband, mentally trying to tell him to tell Kip no.
“Go for it. It could use an update anyways. Redecorate it and use that for content too Kip.”
“Thanks Dad.” Kip smiled before looking to his mom, “You cool with that?”
“Yeah honey, though any thought of using that business degree?”
Kip shrugged, “I use it every day. I know you don’t think streaming is a job or anything, but I haven’t even touched my trust fund in five years. I sell merchandise, I have paid subscribers. I get it you want me working under you or under Dad, but it’s just not going to happen.”
Adel, “It’s getting late, you two figures out the logistics for the pool house. Just please Kip don’t knock down any walls.”
“Whatever you say Mom.” Kip slowly sighed as his mother left.
Doug sat next to him on the couch, “She loves you; she’s concerned, she doesn’t get it.”
“I’ve noticed.”
“Just maybe no more prank videos, especially done in the mall.”
Kip nodded, “Yeah, that probably doesn’t help her take this seriously.”
“Not at all.” Doug turned his iPad on, “Figure out what you want to do with the pool house, I mean besides move in it to get some distance from us.”
“You figured that part out huh?”
“Kip, you’re beyond old enough to have your own space. Okay yes you have a suite of rooms upstairs, but it’s time for you to move out. Even if it’s just to the pool house. Let’s be real that’s as far as your mother will let you move out without interference.”
“But Chad lives in New York, she sent him off to private school when he was in high school. He never comes home.”
Doug took a moment, “Chad’s situation is very different. What I can say is that might be why she holds on as tightly as she does to you.”
Kip tried to remember what he could about when his brother had been sent away. Whatever it was had to be bad, really bad. Kip had his own hiccups and scandals in high school, yet Chad had been sent away. “Think Chad will ever come back?’’
“When the time is right he will. Don’t know when that will be.”
“Thanks Dad, I’ll see you in the morning.” Kip gently put the glass ball he’d been playing with back in the bowl on the table.
“Be safe.” Doug called out as his youngest son left.
####
“Has he been disposed of?” she questioned as her chair faced the wall of Higher Education Degrees.
“We did exactly what you asked us to do.” He told her, his hands behind his back, “Unfortunately luck was not on our side this afternoon.”
The chair spun and she slammed her arms on the desk, “What do you mean?”
“The police have already discovered his body. Someone passing by running on the trail caught sight of him.”
“Why wasn’t he deep in the river?” She ran a hand through her white, blond hair.
“It’s April, the runoff hasn’t really started, and so the river is not as deep as we would’ve liked for this. We were hoping the current would take him downstream a bit more before he washed up.”
She rubbed her forehead, “Take care of this. We can’t be found to be connected to him in anyway.”
“Don’t worry, everything will work out in our favor.” He told her as he left the office. He knew he’d just lied to her. But that was everything he did these days, lie. He lied to her, to the people around him, none of them knew the truth. He was surprised he had reached this high in the organization, gotten in deeper.
Once he was alone in his car, he pulled his phone out and pressed stop on the recording. If Carla ever found it, he would play it off as him covering his ass if she ever turned on him. Really though he was uploading it as part of the case his department was working to bring against her.
“Hart” he answered his phone as he pulled out of the medical suite parking lot, “yeah, that’s good to hear. Yeah, I’ll swing by the hospital.”
####
Siobhan paced in front of the nurse’s station while Lucas had gone to get them coffee. She had let her hair down once they were back in their car, giving her the chance to twist it around her fingers as she put together the information she had already about the victim and what had happened to him.
She couldn’t ignore the fact that his sister was back in town, the same day he washes up on the edge of death in the river. Not that Siobhan realized he was even in town either. What the hell were either of them doing here? Was it a coincidence or a connection?
“Detective?” the doctor stood in front of her, “You, okay?”
“Yeah, just going over the pieces. What do you know?”
She frowned as she put her hands in the pocket of her black scrubs, “He is in a coma right now, a lot of swelling in his brain. He’s got broken ribs, and a lot of bruising and swelling. Right now, it’s touch and go.”
“Trista, any idea of what caused these injuries?”
“I’m not a medical examiner, but these aren’t the kind of injuries in a car accident, not even the kind that lands you in the water.” Trista looked around, “I’m still waiting on the tox screen.”
“You think he was high?”
“I’ve seen a growing number of patients you wouldn’t expect.” Trista confessed as her name got called over the speaker system, “I’ll check back in with you soon.”
“Thanks.” Siobhan called out as the doctor walked away.
“I’m looking for Brighton Simpson.”
A voice crossed Siobhan’s ears and it was not the one she was expecting as she turned around. “Holdon Hart?”
She saw him cringe at the sound of her voice as he turned to look towards her. She tried to ignore how good he looked in the tight white T-shirt that stretched across him, the leather jacket he wore. He had total bad-boy appeal all over him.
He gave her a smile, hoping to thaw the freeze he saw from her, “What a small world.”
“Why are you asking about my victim?” She had a new piece of the puzzle and at this moment she wasn’t sure she would like where this could be going.
He looked around, trying to see who was around him, them before leaning in close. “I’m just asking about a friend.” He knew he couldn’t tell her in such a public place. “Where’s your partner, or do they have you going on cases alone?”
“He’s getting coffee.” She kept her eyes steeled on him, “Why are you even in town, I thought the feds cut you. Shouldn’t you be somewhere disgraced?”
He smirked, “If I remember correctly Siobhan, you liked my disgraced side.”
“Shut up Holdon. I don’t have time for your nonsense. Or maybe you know exactly what happened to Brighton.”
“I promise you Siobhan, I don’t. I just wanted to check on him.”
“How do you know him?”
“We worked together.” That was all he could tell her; all he could say. It wasn’t a lie; it was the truth. He just knew that Siobahn Lane wouldn’t be ready for the truth right now, and not in such a public setting.
“He’s alive, for now.” She finally let her eyes go to the entrance, wondering why she had believed his sister would show up quickly.
He nodded, “Thanks Lane, I’ll see you around.”
“Hart, how about we don’t count on that?”
“Oh, but you can count on it.” He licked his lips as he walked out of the hospital. He had gotten way too close to blow his cover. And now he wouldn’t be able to sleep because he would be haunted by memories of his former police partner.
####
“Enjoy your stay in Colorado.” The attendant at the rental kiosk handed over a stack of paperwork and a car key.
“Thanks.” He gave her a smile before throwing his carrying on over his shoulder and dragging his wheely hardshell behind him. He knew he still had over an hour drive to Pinon Hallow—if traffic on I-25 wasn’t bad. He couldn’t be sure of the reception he would get when he arrived.
He found the car he’d been assigned and loaded his bags in. His phone automatically connected to the Bluetooth system in the car, and he listened to the messages he had received while in the air. He would deal with it all tomorrow.
He set the phone to play a podcast, listening to the story of a woman who ran away as a teenager to join a cult. Her family didn’t know what happened to her for a decade and a half.
He was almost at the end of the podcast episode when the familiar silhouette of Pinon Hallow came into view. It wouldn’t be long now; he would be home soon. He moved down the streets he’d known for his entire childhood. He was surprised by how familiar and foreign they were at the same time.
He pulled up the long driveway towards the stone mansion. The lights were on in many rooms, but he knew there weren’t people to fill them. Not now at least. They wouldn’t tell him they didn’t have room for him, unless they had turned it into a hotel—which his mother would never have done.
He parked in his favorite spot from when he was in high school and took out his carry-on bag. He locked the car out of pure habit as he went to the door. He let himself in, the foyer that led to the living room was empty. He glanced at the time on his phone, if his father was around, he knew exactly where he could find him.
Moving through his childhood home he stopped outside the bowling alley. He could hear the pins falling. “Alright Adel, let’s see what you’ve got.” His father’s voice was older, how had he missed that in phone and video calls.
“I will get this turkey.” Her voice teased.
He watched as his mother took her ball and moved up towards the lane, and then let the ball sail down the hard wood and got a strike. He started clapping as he walked into the room. “Good job Mom.”
His parents both turned, instinctively they knew it wasn’t Kip interrupting them. Instead before Adel and Doug Davis, for the first time in over twelve years was their oldest and first-born son Chad.
“I’m home.”
“Welcome home son.” Doug moved to give his son a hug, unsure if he would accept, but grateful he did.
“Why didn’t you tell us you were coming home?” his mother moved in for a hug of her own, holding him tightly.
“I wanted to surprise you. Why did you turn my room into something else?” He put his bag down as he picked up the blue bowling ball sitting to the side he had used throughout his teenage years, before he’d been sent away.
“No, though Kip did try.” Adel smiled.
“Ahh yes, probably wanted a room for his video games.” Chad put the ball down, “I don’t know how long I’ll be in home. I just knew it was time to come home.”
“We’re glad you did.” Doug told him. “I’ll call Simone and get your room ready for you.”
“Thanks Dad.” Chad watched his father leave the room before he looked at his mother, really looked at her. She was older of course, A sadness over her. “Is Kip home?”
“No, I think he went to get tacos with his friends.”
Chad nodded, “So probably making a stupid video with them.”
“I wouldn’t call them stupid.”
“Uninspired then.” Chad suggested, “Is that bookstore still in the mall?”
“Of course, why?”
Chad shrugged, “I might go sign some copies of my latest book, or if they have any of my past ones.”
“They do, they have a huge display of your stuff.” She gushed.
“Wow, I never would’ve guessed.” But he knew why, it was to stay in her good graces. Sure, he’d made the New York Times list three times already but here in Pinon Hallow, his mother had a lot of pull. Any attention he got, at least in a positive sense, was of her will.
“Do you have any dietary needs or requests. I can make sure Simone has a grocery delivery done early so you have what you want or need.”
“No, I’m not that fussy. Unless you’ve all gone gluten, meat, free.”
“Nothing like that, next week with your brother who knows though.” She sighed a little. “I do wish you had told us you were coming. I could’ve set you up with a proper book signing.”
“I prefer this way. I don’t generally enjoy crowds of people.”
“Simone is getting your room ready.” Doug informed Chad when he came back in. “She already has fresh towels in your bathroom and the sheets are being put on the bed as we speak.”
“Thank you. I think I’m going to go take a shower and go to bed. It’s been a long travel day.” He left the room before they could protest or say anything else.
He made his way up to his childhood room, unsure what he might find. The room had been cleaned up, cleaned out. It had been updated to a more mature style. Almost like his mother had expected he would return—which he had.
He dropped his carryon bag by the door, bypassing the bathroom for a moment. He needed to know if it was still here, after all these years.
The books on the bookshelf didn’t appear to have been traded out. He pulled out a copy of The Hunger Games, and as he flipped through the pages something fell out. He picked it up, the blue in drawing of himself, sitting under the tree at the high school courtyard.
It was here.
It still existed.
All this time he had told himself it had to be gone.
Was this a sign he should try to find her?
If he could, maybe he could apologize about how things ended.
It hadn’t been his choice.
Would she even want to see him now?
She was probably married, had kids.
She probably left Pinon Hallow.
She was probably in Paris or Sydney, exploring the world.
But she was why he came back to town. She had been haunting his dreams for months, years really.
It had to mean something, and Chad was determined to find out what. He would find his high school girlfriend. He would apologize for what happened. It was the least he could do all these years later.

Abby sat at her desk, staring at her computer screen, willing the inspiration she needed to finish the project in front of her. It just wasn’t coming.
She read over the client’s information sheet again, sighing. What was in front of her was perfectly acceptable, yet something was missing. She just couldn’t decide what it was.
She turned the monitor off and moved over to her bed, she looked at the bag from the bookstore she hadn’t unpacked yet. Pulling out the book by Chad Davis, she opened the dedication page again, letting her finger drift over the text.
She closed the book and put it on the shelf above her bed. The same shelf that had every other book he had written. Next to them was a box of notes she had received in high school, along with the breakup letter from her first boyfriend. On the other side of the books was a baby picture of Fallon, simple and classic.
Simple and classic.
That’s what her current project was missing. She went back to her desk, turning on the monitor and getting lost in her art.
Tomorrow would be a new day, and she wouldn’t feel the past encroaching on her the way she had today.

Critical Reread - ACOTAR Chapter 2
Join me on a reread of A Court of Thorns and Roses
Chapter 2
F/eyre feeds her family.
“Mortals didn’t possess magic—didn’t possess any of the superior strength and speed of the faeries or High Fae.”
It'd be a lot more interesting if the humans in this world possessed something the Fae do not. The Fae Supremacy in this series is out of control.
“But then again, my mother hadn’t made them swear anything when they stood beside her deathbed.”
I really wish we got any kind of reasoning for this at all. Especially since F/eyre says she was the most distant from her mother. Could have been an interesting scene to have her ask Papa Archeron at some point.
“Elain sometimes just … didn’t grasp things.”
I am so curious about Elain's POV, though it's entirely possible that her attitude during the cabin years won't come up at all.
“No, she just spent whatever money I didn’t hide from her, and rarely bothered to acknowledge my father’s limping presence at all.”
Bad look for my girl, Nesta.
“Some days, I couldn’t tell which of us was the most wretched and bitter.”
As much as Nesta is awful during this time, it's nice to see that F/eyre deeply understands the bitterness Nesta feels. And it's also a hint that F/eyre can be unpleasant too.
“No one bothered to confirm they’d heard me, anyway.”
I always wonder how much of this part is written for a book where Nesta and Elain don't get a bigger part down the road. There are hints of goodness in them, but it's just so bleak and hard to come back from.
“and that Nesta was sometimes prone to leaving far out of his reach.”
Bad girl, Nesta!
“He just let me walk into those deadly, eerie woods that even the most seasoned hunters were wary of.”
HE LET HER HUNT. HER DAD. WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE PROVIDER.
“I glanced at Nesta’s still-shiny pair by the door. Beside hers, my too-small boots were falling apart at the seams, held together only by fraying laces.”
SJM is doing the most to make sure we feel bad for F/eyre, but she's totally in control of their money. If they have new stuff and F/eyre doesn't, that's because she chose to sacrifice her own needs for her family.
“You stink like a pig covered in its own filth. Can’t you at least try to pretend that you’re not an ignorant peasant?”
OMG Nesta.
“she didn’t have time to do anything with me at all save contemplate how my budding abilities to sketch and paint might secure me a future husband.”
Why in the world would this woman charge her with taking care of the family if she only recognized her artistic abilities?
“Had she lived long enough to see our wealth crumble, she would have been shattered by it”
It makes even less sense that she had her make this promise before they lost their wealth. Why would the feral youngest child be in any position to protect her high society family?
“Stay together, and look after them.”
I do wonder if the promise is even necessary. F/eyre has enough motivation with not wanting her family to die, even if they are awful to her. And by this point she isn't trying to keep them together, she's trying to marry her sisters off. And there isn't any kind of pay off where we get to explore F/eyre's relationship with her mother.
“We have nothing to offer them—no dowry; no livestock, even. While Tomas might want to marry you … you’re a burden.”
I feel like this is the closest we get to F/eyre also being "wretched" as she previously states.
I don't think this is really anti F/eyre, but I added /// just in case.

Nevermore Wednesday x HOTD
I watched Wednesday and thought of the Targaryens being there. I made an OC after Dany but she has dark hair and purple eyes. But she is literally 21st century Dany. No hate to Wednesday she is my home girl! This for plot! . Also thank you @valeskafics for loving my idea and hyping me up to post it!
Summary: daenerys Targaryen is the oldest daughter of Daemon, his half witch half shape shifter child. The very best and ugly of him in a female body, her visions and intuition helps her in Nevermore. She is there with her sightly older cousin, Aemond. Half vampire half shifter. She is madly in love with the resident artist, Xavier Thorpe.
Daenerys Targaryen, daughter of Daemon and Rhea Targaryen, witch and dreamer. Heiress to Daemons company and part owner of Targaryen international, her uncle’s company. The family company, 9 generations strong.
Y/n’s family had witches, dreamers, shape shifters to vampires. Aunt Ali made that into the line, her cousins were half vamps and half shifters. Her step sisters were shifters like their father and her step mother. This never affected the family business crashing, thankfully everyone kept their powers under wraps. Most of them, Aegon, her older cousin was in and out of magazines for his behavior. Uncle Viserys shipped him to Nevermore academy to help him with his powers. Aegon was too blood thirsty to ever be ceo, Rheanyra was in line to inherit it anyways.
Nevermore wasn’t bad like Aegon had put it, he hated authority, being away from his mother. Nobody put up with his shit that’s how Aemond put it at least. Aegon wasn’t wrong about Thornhill, something smelled off about her. I made friends unlike Aegon. Yoko was my roommate, my sister away from home. Bianca, surprisingly. She was misunderstood, needed someone to listen to her. Underneath her typical mean girl exterior was a sad, lonely girl who wanted love from someone. Xavier, is my best friend in the whole world. We met at my family’s annual gala, his father dumped money into our company.
I was 12 and Xavier was 11, I found him sitting on the staircase, crying. His father had yelled at him for showing his powers off to my cousin, Daeron. A simple rabbit came alive off the page and danced in front of the toddler. I never seen the chubby boy until a year ago, when I started Nevermore. Weems assigned Xavier to be my guide, I never realized who he was until dad laughed as he hugged me. Dad was weird so I didn’t think anything of it. Well until I unknowingly encouraged him to ask Bianca out. My chest rows angered and hurt as I saw him smile at the siren.
They broke up over the summer, I had to be the one who picked up the pieces. Xavier never told me who broke up with who and why. The rumors from Enid’s blog were endless and girls who loved X. Who knows why!
“Dany! We got a new girl!” Kent gushed as he sat down.
“Mid semester?” I furrowed my brows
“Wednesday Addams, I think you have Thornhill with her” Yoko grinned.
“What’s so bad about her? Quit smiling with your fangs, Yo” I sighed.
“Look, 4 o clock” Bianca nudged me
She was dressed in an all black Nevermore uniform, braids, scowl on her face. Enid was smiling and pointing at various students. The bell rang. “Let’s go see how this Addams girl is” Bicana smirked.
“Be nice, b. And not bitchy nice” I said as we passed Xavier’s mural.
The same dark girl stood in front with Thornhill. She was spooky for sure, not a bad one. Xavier smiled at her as he opened his sketch book.
“Miss Targaryen” Thornhill said as I looked at Addams sitting with Xavier
” Daenerys!” Thornhill raised her voice, Yoko kicked my leg
“Yes, Miss Thornhill” I jumped
“Pay attention, Xavier has a hole in his back from you staring at him” Thornhill smirked
“Right” I sighed as Xavier smiled back at me
Xavier’s energy was off after he saw Wednesday and it made Bianca’s off. It made me nauseated as class ended. “He could be yours, if you asked him. And quit hiding in Leana’s skirt” Aegon’s voice ranged in my head.
“Dany, you coming to practice?” Xavier asked
“Oh yeah. Ready to get your ass kicked, sweetheart?” I smirked. Xavier bit his lip and nodded.
I arched my bow back
“What do yoI think about Wednesday?” Xavier asked, making me miss my shot.
“You dick! I missed!” I groaned
“I know” he smirked
“I forfeit” I threw my bow down and walked away
“Dan! Dany! Come on I was joking” Xavier yelled
A knock broke me from my crying and thoughts, Yoko was out with Bianca for the shadow meeting or something.
“Go away, Xavier!” I yelled
The knocking continued
“Enid leave me alone fuck!” I opened the door to my slightly older, much taller cousin, Aemond.
“Loose your attitude, bitch” Aemond walked in
“Jerk” I smiled
“You’re not suppose to be up here, Thornhill will kill you” I sighed
“Not before I find out why my cousin is bawling her eyes out. Now talk” Aemond raised his eyebrow at me.
“It’s stupid. It could be solved if I listened to Aegon” I plopped on my bean bag
“Don’t listen to Aegon ever. Why do you say that?” Aemond rubbed my head
“I really like Xavier and I can tell he is in love with Wednesday fucking Addams already. She sat with him for one class and he’s already planning their wedding in his head. I seen them at the dance this semester” I broke down.
“Dany, calm down. He can’t love her just in one day” Aemond said.
“He has the same look, he did when I pushed him to ask out Bee” I looked my cousin in the eyes.
—————- a week later
I was walking to meet Xavi for archery practice for the day. “Nice leggings, Dee” Enid smiled as she typed away.
“Thanks, babe!” I giggled
“Hey” I grabbed my bow as he was showing Wednesday how to shoot.
“Oh Dany! Daenerys, Wednesday Addams. Wednesday, Daenerys” Xavier smiled.
“At least I’m not an elitist snob” Wednesday deadpanned and made her bullseyes
“Ouch” Xavier said
“Damn, I gave you a week until I showed you I didn’t need your help” I giggled
“Dany” Xavier sighed
“Right. Sorry your manhood is damaged now” I bit my tongue
“Why do you have to be a mini version of Daemon?” He sighed
“It’s fun, my love. Now excuse me, I’m gonna sneak out with Yoko. See ya later, Thorpe” i patted his back as I left him with his thoughts.
“And then Enid asked Wednesday to join us for the Poe cup. I mean how do we even know she is even worth having. I love bee but I would love to beat her even more” Yoko gushed. I sat in the window seal, barely hearing anything she had said
“Dany? Dan? Daenerys, hey” Yoko shook me.
But it went dark and I hit the floor
“Danyy! Shit” Yoko ran off
I woke up in the medical wing, my head was pounding out of my skull.
I looked over to see Xavier sleeping in the chair, his neck was showing. He must have felt my eyes on him, he got startled.
“Hey hey. You’re wake!” He smiled
“What happened? Why are you here?” I deadpanned
“Apparently you passed out and fell when Yoko was talking to you. She busted into my room screaming for me to help her. I’m your best friend why do you say that?” Xavier held my hand
I dropped his hand and stood up grabbing my sweatshirt. Well Xavier’s sweatshirt, fuck it! It was comfortable.
“Dany!”
———- two weeks later
Xavier barely talked to anyone, staying in his shed if it wasn’t school hours. The community outreach was boring as always. I got assigned to pilgrim world with Yoko and Bianca.
I snuck away and decided I needed a chai latte to even make it through this hell of Jericho. According to Enid’s blog Xavier was at the coffee shop for his assignment. Aemond was there too or maybe he snuck off to the library.
“Let me guess an iced vanilla chai with almond milk?” Xavier grinned as he sat in the side of the booth.
“You remember” I smiled
He grinned and went to make my drink
“Here” I tried to give him a ten
“Quit, on the house. I don’t make pretty girls pay for stuff” Xavier shut my hand with the bill crumbling in my hand.
“Xavier! At least take it for a tip” I sighed
“Be right there” he said as he walked to the counter to help a customer
“You’re supposed to be at pilgrim world, kid” Aemond punched my shoulder, playful like.
“Here I thought you blew this assignment off. Looks like only of us are the smart Targaryen” I smirked.
“I promised mom I wouldn’t be like Aegon and actually interact with people”
“Mamas boy” I laughed
“How’s daddy gonna get his little girl out of this one?” He shot back
“Hey Wednesday!” Tyler smiled as he came from the back room
“Does everyone have the hots for the mini goth?” I threw my head back.
I stood up, “See ya, Aem. Be good”
“Dany?” Xavier quipped
“What?”
He held my latte
“Thanks” I took it and left him standing there
I was sitting under an oak tree, reading the family history again. I could quote it word for word but I needed comfort. Dad was in London for a business trip.
“When are you gonna tell how you feel and not sulk like a lost puppy?” A voice asked
It was Bianca
“How can you tell?” I sighed
“Because he looked at me like how you do him. Don’t lose him to another” she sat down.
“Piss off” I brought my knees to my chest
“Before I piss off.. Listen, I know you love him, just tell him how you feel. You would be surprised in the outcome, Dans” She held my hand
“Why would you help your ex’s best friend get with your ex?” I scoffed
“Because I like you shockingly. You remind me of me a little too much also” Bianca looked with her ocean blues
I sighed, rubbing a hand over my face, “I’ve already lost him to Wednesday. There’s nothing I can do to show him how I feel. Thanks but you’re too late, bee bee”
“Stop crying. I don’t do crying” She pulled me into her chest
“Shut up, sushi” I giggled
“Hate that name, but since you’re sad I’ll let it pass” she rubbed my back
“Don’t mention to anyone that you saw me cry. Now kindly fuck off” I stood up
“Tell him!” She yelled
I walked up the stairs to mine and Yoko’s room, I passed Wednesday and Enid’s. Suddenly a severed hand ran across my shoe, making me yelp.
“Thing!” A voice yelled as they jerked the door open.
Wednesday
“Is that your family pet? We have a dragon”, I blurted out
“You’re the Targaryen girl” Wednesday looked at me as she picked up her hand.
“How do you know who I am but not Xavier’s family?” I asked
“My father has a copy of your family’s history. Daemon’s daughter from his rocky first marriage”, she quipped
I looked her up and down
“How do you know that? That’s not in the book it stopped after my great great grandfather” I scoffed.
“Enid” The small girl shut her door
“Can’t wait for this semester to be over”, I sighed as I finished my journey to my dorm
——————-
I sat with Xavier and Aemond during breakfast before class broke. Xavier winced every little movement, claiming he hurt his back during fencing. They haven’t had fencing in a week.
“Look at his neck, Aem” I threw my thought in Aemond’s head
“His fencing wound. So what?”
“You’ve not had fencing in a week moron”, I rolled my eyes
Aemond stood up, saying his goodbyes for the day. Alys was at the other side of the quad. Of course he leaves me without no answers.
“How does one get a starch like that from a fencing sword? Wednesday’s was a tiny nick” I said
“You don’t believe me” Xavier scoffed
“You’re a shitty liar, Thorpe” I smirked
He sighed, “I drew a monster from my vision and it came out and attacked me. Just don’t tell anyone”
“Why don’t you have a bandage? Unless you want your neck to turn green and fall off”, I ran my over his hoodie collar
He jumped back
“See ya in Thornhill” He stalked off
“Yeah you’ll be naming your kids with vampira”, I sighed, collecting my things and met Yoko before our first class
It was getting close to the end of the day, my class with Xavier and Wednesday. The closer I got to the class, my music blaring. I decided to skip class and see what my other family was up to.
“Fuck it”
It was easy to get the dorm hall without Thornhill bugging me about my life and why I blasted the Sex Pistols.
I slammed the door and threw my blazer off, kicking my shoes off.
“Dad will be in London or everywhere. Lena will be pissed that I skipped.” I sighed, scrolling through my contacts.
Egg 🍃
“Worth a shot” I clicked the blue phone and let it rang
“Shut up, it’s my cousin” Aegon sounded out of breath.
“Bad timing, cousin” I giggled
“Kinda but what’s wrong? Go take a shower or something” I heard Aegon tell a girl
The door shut
“What’s wrong? You’re supposed to be in herbology, kiddo” Aegon tried to lecture me
“Stop being my dad! I need my older cousin who I love like my brother to listen” I whined
“I am” Aegon sighed
I bit my lip
“Okay. There’s this new girl Wednesday Addams, she is the goth girl but she gives me Ted Buddy vibes. Anyways Xavier is in love with her, he has been blowing me off. Just hurts because it’s like when he was in love with Bianca. I don’t know, Egg it’s just too much and parent’s weekend isn’t until next month. I already know Dad won’t be there, probably in Spain or bora bora. I’m sorry I bothered you with your hookup” I cried
“Dany! It’s okay breathe, in and out. The new will wear off on Thursday and he’ll ask you to the Rave’n. He does love you, you’re both too chicken to say anything” Aegon replied
“Don’t let this go to your head but you’re right. And it’s Wednesday, bud” I laughed
“There’s that laugh! Now lay down, drink some water and stop worrying” Aegon smiled
“Thanks, Egg. Love you” I smiled, not like he would see it but it’s the thought that counts.
He giggled
“Tell my giant little brother I said hi. He probably won’t notice but won’t being attached to Alys”
“Tell me about it. I walked in on them making out, I asked him something. He responded but didn’t break away from her. Sad thing I understood what he said” I giggled
“Teenage angst. Now don’t call me unless you asked him out and you’ll make me your maid of honor” Aegon said before he hung up
“Aegon! Aeg” I sighed
The door slammed open
“Why weren’t you in class? Did you get sick?” Xavier walked over and laid his on my forehead
“No, I'm not sick. Family issue came up. Did you take any notes or did you impress your little girlfriend with your moving art” I smirked
He jerked his hand back and looked down at me with disgust, “Jealousy isn’t a good look on you Daenerys”
He walked to the door, “She hasn’t do anything to you or Bianca and you two hate her”
“She’s a stalker, Xavier! Somehow she knows about my fathers first marriage and how it was. I never talked to the girl before, she don’t even have a phone. You’re too blinded by love to see it now but she’s no good” I walked over to him
“Like you can point your finger on how crazy people are, Dans. Look in the mirror” Xavier scoffed
“Fuck you” I pushed him out as Yoko walked in with Divana
“What a spoiled brat” I heard him say before leaving
“Asshole!” I yelled back
Yoko and Divana looked at me with a sympathetic smile.
“Want me to sneak Aemond in?” Yoko asked
I shook my head and flopped on my bed
What a fucking day! Curse Wednesday Addams! And fuck Xavier Thrope, he’s such an asshole!

Mikey! More on all of these because I love my boys
1. Steve also goes into closets when he’s embarrassed. If something doesn’t go as planned or if people laugh at him and he gets bone deep embarrassment, he’ll stay in the situation long enough to play it off, but later, he’ll disappear. Bucky knows well enough to search everywhere else first. Steve knows Bucky knows where he is, but it’s the act of looking that helps Steve calm down. Because if Bucky’s looking, that means he cares.
2. There’s one day when Steve thinks he’s alone and is talking to himself in Irish. Bucky’s in the house or maybe he just got back from somewhere and Steve hasn’t noticed him yet, and maybe Steve asks himself a question about whether Bucky would like something and Bucky responds in perfect Irish. Turns out that in addition to learning it from listening, he was taking some online classes
3. Bucky journals diligently. It’s something that he started doing after the Soldier as a way to keep things organized and to keep things memorized. But once he starts doing it because he likes it, he starts journaling in Yiddish. It helps him feel close to his mama and sisters and feels like home. Steve always tries to bring him a cup of tea when he sees him with his journal and curls up on the opposite side of the couch with his sketch book
4. If Steve ever wakes up as the big spoon, this stubborn ass will get out of bed and go to the other side to work his way into Bucky’s eyes. Sometimes Bucky wakes up and rolls his eyes and presses a fond kiss to his temple before going back to sleep
5. The thing Steve likes most about Christmas is the decorating. He and his Ma never had much in the way of decorations, but they made do. Steve made a lot of them by hand from newspapers he found in the street. Now, even though they have the means to be ostentatious, he and Bucky still keep it simple. It’s a quiet melding of their two traditions
6. For the big meals, Steve lets Bucky cook and he works as the sous chef. He loves watching Bucky work in the kitchen. It reminds him of childhood and watching his ma make these meals out of seemingly nothing. Bucky has this innate sense of knowing how to do things in the kitchen and it brings this sense of home. Usually, during the week, they cook together, making old recipes from their families and finding new ones, and it’s healing
7. There was a week where Bucky had to travel somewhere and he came home to Steve sleeping on the couch with Alpine curled on his chest, purring
hello!!! i know it's been absolutely forever since you sent these in, but i'm finally freeee for a week!!!
YESSS i also think steve finds comfort in slightly confined, quiet spaces. it was always safest for him as a kid to sort of hide-- and most of the games he'd play at bucky's house that he came up with or lead were hiding games (which clued the barnes parents heavily into his home life)-- so it's something that he still holds onto to this day. bucky of course knows this and knows the routine of it is comforting to steve, so he goes along with it easily
YES PLEASSEEE after that, they spend a long time cycling through irish endearments with each other and eventually, steve surprises bucky by throwing in some yiddish endearments as well, much to bucky's nostalgic surprise
bucky being a writer is something that's so special to me. i also love to imagine that on top of journaling as a coping mechanism, he takes to writing short stories and poetry as well!!! this has lead to him leaving little poems around their brownstone for steve to find when bucky knows he has some tough work ahead of him or is having a bad day
steve also 100% will take any opportunity to crawl onto bucky's lap and hunker down. there have been times that he's come home for a mission or therapy and promptly crawled onto bucky's lap and passed out. bucky always just wordlessly adjusts and scrolls through his phone while steve snores on his shoulder
I WROTE A FIC LIKE THIS ONCE OMGGG yes!!!! steve working hard on homemade decorations and aiming for the trees that maybe look like they need a little more love and drawing in all the little things that made the holidays special for him and his ma. simple always felt more special. like home to him, because it's always been unequivocally about family and love and gathering than anything material
sometimes this includes steve just... attaching himself to bucky as he works around the kitchen. trailing behind him with his arms around his middle and kissing the back of his neck while bucky sautées onions and explains what he's doing
also steve gets his own cat. it's a naked cat. this is a hill i will die on.

Final Prompt Response - Home
Prompt 19: Annabeth with Ryder and Kira when they're little
*Great prompt, loved this idea, thanks!*
***
By the time they got back from the park, Annabeth was tired. But a good tired. Ryder had gone up and down the slide possibly literally a hundred times, then begged to go on the swings, so Annabeth had put Kira in a baby swing, plopped Ryder into the regular swing next to it, then pushed both of them while they shrieked happily, kicking their legs out at the bright blue sky. Annabeth had to laugh along with them, even as her arms started to get tired. They always did Saturdays in the park, usually as a family, but Percy was at his mom and Paul's today, helping them move in some new furniture. So Annabeth was on her own with both kids. She'd been a little worried it would be hard to keep track of Ryder while also watching Kira, but her son had done an impressive job of listening today, and it had been a great trip to the park.
When they got home, Annabeth put Kira in her baby swing, then got Ryder set up at the coffee table with crayons and a coloring book. Once they were settled, she headed into the kitchen to finish up some dishes and see about prepping something for dinner later. But she'd only been out there about ten minutes when Ryder called, "Mama!"
"What's up, baby?" Annabeth dried her hands off on a dish towel and went back into the living room. Kira was dozing in her swing, pacifier bobbing in her mouth. Ryder had moved his coloring book and crayons from the coffee table to the floor and was laying on his stomach. When his mother came out, he sat up with a bright smile, showing her the picture he'd drawn. It showed a swing set, with two scribbled shapes that he said were him and his sister. The other, slightly larger, scribble was Mommy pushing them on the swings. Annabeth pointed to another scribble in the corner, with a square leaning up against it. "What's that?"
"That's Daddy," Ryder said proudly. "He carrying a sofa."
Annabeth laughed, then kissed her son's forehead. "It's a great drawing, Ry. I love it."
He beamed at her. "Will you draw with me, Mama?"
Annabeth hesitated, thinking about the handful of dishes still sitting in the sink, the chicken that needed to be put in a marinade for dinner, the laundry in the washer that needed to be moved to the dryer, and the load in the dryer that first needed to be moved to a laundry basket and then folded. But looking down at Ryder's expectant face and bright eyes, she couldn't find it in herself to care much about the chores at the moment. "Of course."
After sneaking another glance at her daughter, who was still sleeping peacefully, Annabeth laid down on her stomach next to her son and grabbed a piece of paper and a crayon. "Alright, what are we drawing?"
"Aquarium!"
"Awesome. Let's design an amazing aquarium." She tickled his side and Ryder giggled before picking up his crayon and getting intently to work.
For a while, they laid on the floor, designing different fish tanks for the aquarium, then trying to join them together with hallways, slides, and climbing tubes like the ones at Chuck E. Cheese (or Hebe Jeebies, but Annabeth tried not to think about that particular experience). Ryder chattered to her while he colored and passed the paper over to her when there was something more complicated he wanted sketched; Annabeth obliged, smiling as she followed her son's very specific instructions for a slide that wound around a giant fish tank, "Like the one in Dory!" Ryder said.
As she passed the paper back to him and watched him get to work, focusing on colors and making coral with little fish dots around it, Annabeth was suddenly overwhelmed in the best way. This was her life right now. She had a family. They were hers.
She snuggled Ryder closer and kissed the top of his head. He allowed it for a moment, then wriggled free, telling her very seriously, "Mama, I's designing."
"My bad," Annabeth said with a grin, dropping another kiss into his blonde hair, still windswept from the slide and swings. She pushed herself up to her knees, then leaned over to where Kira was still sleeping in her swing, even though it was now still. Very softly, she kissed her daughter's forehead, brushing the baby's dark hair back just because she could. Then she scooted back down next to Ryder to help him with the trickier parts of his drawing. It was turning into quite the impressive aquarium. Her professional brain couldn't help calculating what the cost of a place like this would run; to build this aquarium in reality, he might need to call in some favors with his sea god grandpa. But for a Saturday drawing session, it was perfect.
That was how Percy found them half an hour later when he got home. Annabeth and Ryder had the aquarium laid out across half the living room floor, all the different levels connected by walkways and tunnels (and a few slides).
"Whoa," he said, walking in and looking with surprise at the floor. "This looks cool."
"Daddy!" Ryder scrambled up and threw his arms around his dad's legs. Percy picked him up, swinging him in the air and Ryder laughed before telling him, "We is making aquarium!"
"Awesome." Percy kissed his son's cheek, then set him down. "Want to show it to me?"
"Yes!" Ryder hurried back over to his drawings and started shuffling them around again, trying to figure out the one he wanted to show his dad first.
Meanwhile, Kira had woken up with a squeal when she heard Percy's voice and was smiling at him around her pacifier, holding her arms out. Percy grinned and scooped her up, nuzzling his nose against hers, which made the baby clap her hands and made Annabeth pretty much melt into a puddle.
Percy sat down cross-legged on the floor beside Annabeth, bouncing Kira on his knee. Kira spit out her pacifier in order to suck on her fist, cooing contentedly. Ryder appeared in front of them, holding up two different pages and giving a very detailed explanation about these particular tanks and the awesome twisty water slide connecting them.
While their son talked, Annabeth pushed herself into a sitting position and kissed Percy's cheek.
"Hey," he told her quietly, turning to meet her eyes while Ryder was once again shuffling through papers, deciding on the next one to show.
"Hey, yourself." Annabeth patted his knee, right below where their baby was balanced on it. "How'd it go at your parents'?"
"It was good." Percy bounced Kira, who waved her hands cheerfully, one covered in drool. "Although I think I'm going to be pretty sore tomorrow. I told Mom and Paul that next time, I will be happy to cover the cost for them to have the delivery that includes movers who actually carry the furniture up the stairs."
When Annabeth laughed, Percy grinned. He gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, then asked, "How was your day?"
"Great," Annabeth admitted, holding out her finger for their daughter to grab. Kira squeezed it tightly, even as she continued to wave her hand up and down while Percy bounced her gently. "We hit the park, then came home to just hang out."
Percy smiled at her, the late afternoon sun highlighting the green in his eyes. "Sounds like a good day."
"It was." Since Ryder was back to laying on his stomach, working on a new drawing, tongue poking out adorably as he concentrated, Annabeth took the opportunity to give her husband a real kiss. "I'm glad you're home."
"Me too." Percy shifted the baby to his other knee, then slid his arm around Annabeth's waist, pulling her closer. "Home is a good place to be."
She nodded, laying her head on his shoulder, grateful for this moment with her family. "It definitely is."

* I don't know how to make the future fics not syrupy sweet—but I make no apologies! Even if this one turned out as fluffy as a blue pancake lol
This also feels like a good last prompt to finish up on—for now anyway I have a few other fanfic ideas I'm playing with, though, so no worries—there will be more stories coming this year. Got to do something to fill the PJO void now that the show is finished (and while we wait for Season Two!) and until Wrath of the Triple Goddess comes out.
Thanks as always to everyone for reading!*
