You Flinch During an Argument -Bakugo Katsuki

I finished this yesterday but forced myself to wait to post it due to my one part a day pattern I've had going on.

Anyways~ as I said in Shoto's part, I did make this one a bit angstier, but I hope I didn't stray too far away from the original prompt :'). It's kinda bittersweet lol but I kinda like it.

You both had been fighting for at least half an hour, screaming at one another for this and that. It started with Bakugo 'forgetting' to pick up your sons from school, and has now escalated into you screaming at him for not 'caring about this family' and his yelling about how hard he works for your family.

No one was totally to blame, both parties had some points that were right, and some that were wrong. But it should have never reached that point.

Blazing anger filled Bakugo as he stepped towards you, planning on simply getting closer to you to somehow try and make you see his side of things. He didn't mean to forget about picking up his kids, he loves his kids, he was simply engrossed in talking about them to his friends as he gamed, totally forgetting about the time and the fact that they were at school, waiting for someone to pick them up.

In truth, Bakugo felt bad. Really bad. But you wouldn't stop, so he continued, his unwavering pride making it near impossible to simply apologize and leave the argument behind.

Storming towards you, Bakugo stopped dead in his tracks as you flinched from him, eyes holding a certain terror. Wait- did you- did you think he was going to hurt you?!

Apologies and 'are you okay's were caught in Bakugo's throat as he opened his mouth, too terrified to speak.

Y/n.. his y/n was scared..of him. HIs y/n- the person that tore him out of his 'I don't care about anything or anyone' stage. She brought him out of his dark pit of self loathing, hating himself for how weak he was, how he couldn't do anything compared to that idiot Deku. She brought light into his world, she is his light. His first and last love, his wife, his center, his other half, his partner, his reason for life, the mother of his children, his one and only lover, his queen, his everything.

And he scared her.

Screamed at her for something that was his fault.

Treated her so badly that she flinched away from him- terror filling her eyes.

Her gorgeous e/c eyes. The same eyes that his sons had inherited. Now he's brought tears to three sets of those goregous eyes. What a scum bag.

Pain seared through Bakguo as he embraced his y/n, knowing if he left now she would entirely break, thinking that he was giving up on her. On their love. When in reality, he would't be. He would never dream of leaving her, or their beautiful children.

Because no matter how much of an a-hole Bakugo may be, he would never stoop that low. Never. And so he held her, and continued to hold her as she tearfully cussed him out, telling him how much she loved him and how much of an a-hole he was for treating her like that, their kids like that.

He just held her, telling her that he was sorry, that he knew, that he would make it up to her -and their seven year old twins- somehow.

And for now, that was enough. His love, and comfort was enough as you clung to him, insulting him while telling him that you loved his idiotic self in the same sentence, telling him that you loved him too much to not be able to forgive him.

And that if he was serious about making things right, that you would help him.

Because you were Bakugo y/n*. You chose to take his name and become his wife. Bakugo has helped you through so many up and downs, so you would do the same for him. Because he truly loved you, and you truly loved him.

*Japanese last names go in front of the first name to pay respect to the family name, and that's why Kirishima and Bakugo's other classmates call him Bakugo instead of Katsuki -to pay respect to his family name-. So you would be (in Japan anyway) Bakugo y/n (if you choose to take his last name) and strangers/aquaintnesses/not so close friends and co-workers would call you Bakugo instead of y/n. Annd due to me not liking Bakugo a whole lot I call him Bakugo or Baka/Bakuhoe instead of Katuski and call Todoroki and Midoriya, Shoto and Izuku- do you get what I'm saying?? I hope you do <33

“We don’t know what you’re talking about.” They replied in perfect unison, a creepy grin on each of their identical faces. Straight faced as you were, a certain someone watched from afar anger burning in his head. ‘Those two creepy perverted twins!!’ 

“You two!!” Tamakis voice echoed through the music room. Thank god there were no girls in here; Tamaki wouldn’t be the only jealous one here.

“We didn’t do anything, boss.” The two threw their hands up in the same unison as always.

“You didn’t-! Liars!! You two are some sick perverts to think I didn’t see that.” He grabbed you by the arm and held you to his chest as he accusingly pointed at the two.

“Tamaki, calm down they didn’t do anything that bad,” You groaned pushing him away and walking off to talk to someone else. “you’re so overdramatic.” 

“Whaaaaaa-!” He was now sitting in the corner of the room, his knees pulled to his chest.

“Just proving my point further.” You said not sparring him a second glance.

“My dear, you simply are a beautiful maiden.” Benio spoke as she was on one knee, holding your hand to her lips. You blinked silently, you were trying to enjoy your evening with Haruhi and the rest of the host club, but I guess you never did get any peace.

Though instead of saying anything the twins and tamaki just sat back and laughed until they couldn’t breath. Haruhi and Kyoya stood off the the side observing silently.

“She’s the silent type isn’t she Benibara?” Chizuru spoke caressing your hair. Hinako stood next to you admiring you from the side an awe struck smile adorning her face.

“Aren’t you gonna say something.” The vein on your forehead threatening to pop as you craned your head to anyone other than the Lobelia girls. Everyone stared at you like you were stupid. Haruhi groaned walking towards you.

“Can’t you see shes uncomfortable? Obviously she doesn’t like you three.” Haruhi spoke her hands on her hips as she pushed Benio away and stepped in front of you.

“Oh so violent against, Lady Benibara.” Hinako said helping Benibara to her feet. 

“If that’s what the young maiden wishes. We shall be off.” Benio said dramatically placing the back of her hand to her forehead. 

“Yes, please leave.” You said shooing them out the door.

You sat at a table with a few of your friends eating on a piece of [f. cake flavour]. ‘Is this heaven?’ You thought to yourself eyes closed in a blissful peace. 

“[f.name], are you okay? You’re awfully quiet over there.” Your eyes snapped open, as you stared at [friends name]. With a mouthful of cake you just nodded instead of spewing food everywhere.

“Can I try some?” Your friend leaned over the table a small ‘ahh’ coming from her mouth. You took a spoonful of the cake and placed it in her mouth. She made a ‘mmm’ as she chewed and swallowed the cake. A very loud gasp shrouded the room and you jumped and looked to the side. A very betrayed looking Honey-senpai stood before you. 

“Di- Are you eating cake with someone else!?” He asked fat tears rolling down his cheeks. 

“Honey-senpai, calm down it’s not that big of a de-” 

“Wahhhhhh!!!” Honey jumped onto you knocking you out of your seat. You groaned and patted his back softly.

2)Anyone who’s read idolish7 content by this point probably knows this, but just in case, the “straight man” (tsukkomi) and “funny man” (boke) act is a kind of japanese comedy duo where the boke says something silly or creates a misunderstanding and the tsukkomi corrects them

3) Momo refers to the shows you can record on your tv to watch later, idk if this is a thing much anymore in the west but i do believe it is still in japan.

Hi! Sorry to bother you again, I'm the one who asked you a while ago if it was okay to ask for some tips on writing dialogue. Thank you so much for your availability and time 🙇‍♀️ I'm mostly curious about how you structure your dialogues and how you manage to build chemistry between the characters through banter. Do you follow a particular set of rules or does it just come natural to you? You write so many ideas and cool dialogues, how do you manage to come up with so many? In general, if you have any tips for a fledgling "writer", they are super welcome. No pressure, of course, I really don't want to intrude/steal your time. P.s. I forgot last time to tell you that I also really loved your AU fic, Party Favours. I was hooked from the first lines and I had so much fun reading it. It was a really comforting and entertaining read, like drinking a hot chocolate in winter. Honestly, thank you so much for gifting us with such a warm and funny story. 🥰☕

Hey! Thank you for being so nice about my writing and the strengths you think I have - I didn't know I had them, so it was interesting to see my work from someone else's perspective.

And also don't worry, it's not a bother to answer this question. Although I'm not sure how helpful I'll be as I have no formal training and that might mean my explanations aren't useful!!

I'll try to answer as best I can :)

I don't really have rules for chemistry, I'll be honest, but my favourite dynamic (as is fucking obvious from many a fic I've written) is overconfident flirt/straight-laced practical killjoy. Luckily for me... there are a lot of these in media (Howl/Sophie, Tamaki/Haruhi, certain flavours of Buffy/Spike, Jude/Cardan from The Cruel Prince, Labyrinth fanfiction, whatever was going on with Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries)! So I guess, if I was to give advice on that... I'd say if you really like a certain dynamic, go and look for examples of how they work elsewhere. Work out what it is about the pairing that makes your brain itch, or examine how these characteristic interactions play out, if there's any kind of formula to them - for instance, in Party Favours, the bit where Astarion is actively and overconfidently faking while talking to Threnn while Rose gets more and more flustered, was based partly on a fake relationship episode of Buffy lol. Like I didn't copy it word for word or anything, but it was an idea I saw elsewhere that I knew would be good for the pairing. .

Coming up with ideas... again, idk how idiosyncratic my process is. I maladaptive daydream a lot, and I really like scripting arguments (see above about what dynamics in fiction work for me, lmfao). i just love to hallucinate bickering, apparently. If I have any lines of dialogue that occur to me in any situation, I tend to put them into my notes app on my phone, to revisit later. If I have a scene with a particular purpose, I might look through my dialogue on my phone and try to find a series of quotes that work. Other times the maladaptive daydream for a few days might be the scene, and I'll write down any notes on what I want to happen and let it percolate for a few days before I actually write it. Sometimes pieces of dialogue will come to me before the scene does - Astarion's speech in chapter 7 of pieces happened before any of the rest of the fic, and then I was like "fuck. well. now i've got to get myself there." Mostly, this seems to just be a result of having these people live in my head rent free, but I'm also pretty autistic and so I script conversations a lot in social interactions anyway. .

Dialogue. I think dialogue comes naturally to me (see above comment about autism) and as such, I don't really follow any strict rules, I'm afraid... but these are some things I do formally try to do-

If a person is talking at someone (again, see how much I fucking love writing people bickering), you need to make sure it's not just a wall of text. Adding in paragraph breaks, even if it's a monologue, is kind of essential (speaking as someone who did not do this in the beginning, and it shows, particularly when you're reading my earlier fic on mobile rather than desktop). Often I will break it up with a one sentence interjection, a false start from the other person trying to get a word in edgeways, or a stage direction. I had a problem with one pairing I wrote for where one of the characters just would never speak... I needed to engineer lines for him to say even if it was completely superfluous. Sometimes, now I look at my writing, I feel like these are obviously fake and unnecessary... but they help break up the text and give the reader pauses. So they must be helpful, even if they're kind of just... there. it makes the dialogue a dialogue, with two people involved and reacting to each other. -

Similarly, speeding stuff up can be useful when creating banter, to keep pace and avoid people monologuing at each other. The key ways I tend to speed stuff up is usually a) characters finishing each other's sentences (derogatory or affectionate), b) interrupting each other (you'll notice my repeated 'Astarion-' is often used to get Astarion to just talk quicker and at more length and in more detail until Rose loses her goddamn mind), c) quicker back and forth where you don't need dialogue tags or stage directions bc characteristic voices will make it clear who is speaking. -

I read everything aloud as I post. This is how I proofread. Reading aloud helps me find spelling errors/sentence errors, but it also means that I have to speak all my dialogue aloud to my own wall like a crazy person. If I'm speaking it aloud in a different way, like the phrasing changes subconsciously to what's more natural in my mouth, I will often edit the dialogue to reflect that. I speak it, to see how it is spoken. -

Second to the above point, if you have a character who's voice you struggle with, listen/watch clips of their voice. I do not think I can write Lae'zel (or Gale tbh, and I'm now writing a whole fic from his pov so I clearly hate myself). I watch back clips of them all the time, and then I go to my dialogue, and see if I can hear it in their voice. If I can, I keep it. -

...Be brave enough to tell jokes. I genuinely can't tell you how much I don't think I'm funny. Every joke I write in my fic, I have no idea if anyone else will enjoy it, or if it only makes me laugh. But I put it in there, for me. I'm lucky, bc now some people tell me they found a joke amusing, and I'll know it landed with someone else other than me. But you tell jokes with your friends, presumably, and you're playful with them. So allow your characters to joke with each other, even if you're scared that no one else will 'get it'. If no one else finds it funny, at least the characters are having fun! -

Anyway, those are my main 'tips', I don't know if any of them are helpful!!

My other one main piece of advice is... read. Seriously. Even if the media you want to write for isn't a literary novel, read other people's writing, and I do mean both fic and published books, because published books (if they're good) have an editor. I read a lot of books/webtoons/manga before I ever wrote a fic... like for 12 years or something. I was a big reader, and reading good writing is useful - it's inspiring, it's also just technically helpful. These writing tips might be useless, because lot of what I've done in my own writing I've learned through osmosis - just by reading a fuck tonne of books, good and bad. I'm not saying you have to read 60 books a year or w/e, but read like, a few good books!

(also, just write a bunch. I am only becoming a 'read' fic author on my 11th project??? basically??? so I've had a lot of practice at this point, and grown in confidence. The more things you finish, the more ambitious you get. I couldn't have conceived of Pieces when I was writing my first fanfic, bc I thought plot was my main weakness... now I'm writing an almost entirely original premise and that's bc I've learned a lot since I started writing!)

“Oh, h-hey Tamaki,” he stammered, looking flustered but smiling despite himself, thanks to his nerves. “What’s up?”

“Are you okay? You left pretty quickly back there.”

The company had been in the middle of enjoying some homemade ice cream that Maki had created when Shinra had suddenly yelped and jumped, causing the dishes on the table to shake precariously. Before Hinawa could scold him, he’d bowed and murmured an apology and gotten out of there like he was rushing to put an Infernal to rest.

“Oh…yeah…yeah.” Shinra sighed and leaned against the lockers in the hall, looking everywhere but at her. “It’s nothing.”

Tamaki frowned. Arthur had been sitting next to him at the table, and it wasn’t lost on her that right before Shinra had reacted, the blonde had shifted slightly toward him. “Did he hurt you? I’ll gladly kick his ass myself—”

“No,” Shinra said quickly, though his smile seemed more at ease now. “He didn’t. But…thanks, Tamaki.”

“Then what happened?” she insisted.

“Oh. I, uh…he just…I’m just…” Shinra stammered, finally scraping a hand down his face in resignation and muttering, “I’m pretty ticklish, and he…surprised me.”

Tamaki couldn’t help it. Her whole face lit up, and she grinned as Shinra’s eyes widened. “You are? Is that all? There’s no need to be embarrassed about that.”

“I…I know, but we were eating—”

“Can I see?” she asked, reaching as though to try it, but the next thing she knew she’d been spun around and pushed against the lockers herself, Shinra holding onto her wrists. He caught himself a moment later and retracted, then smirked and reached for her instead.

“Sorry, Tamaki,” he said as his fingers gently tickled her ribs and sides, making her shriek and giggle in place, pushing at him uselessly. “Maybe later.”

“Shihihihinra!” she squealed, gripping his arms to try and escape, biting back a louder yelp when he found her waistline. “Nohohohohoho! Plehehehehehease, I prohohohohomise I’ll leheheheheave you alone!”

The fire soldier stopped then, and after a few moments of catching her breath, Tamaki looked up and locked eyes with him, surprised to find him looking tenderly at her.

“I never said I want you to leave me alone,” he said softly.

Tamaki blinked in surprise, blushing. But she managed a smirk all the same. “Well, that’s good. Because I am going to tickle you at some point now that I know, Shinra.”

He chuckled. “Guess we’ll see how long I can outrun you, then.”

I’ll have to start that all of the boys wouldn’t judge or reject you based on your appearance, being either chubby, slim, tall, short, there are a few attributes that I think each turtle would find it e seeing or interesting, but it’s more… humanly related(?) maybe one day I’ll make a post about it if you guys wanna hear my opinion on it hehe :)

just like there are certain stuff about the turtles that they like and dislike about themselves, there are stuff about humans who think the same about themselves! and even though Donnie knows there are beauty standards that control many areas in humans society, he still doesn’t understand why people outcast those who are different

I think some of us (readers / shippers) get a bit :C when thinking about Donnie bc in almost every version, he had a crush on April (who is a babe in every. Version. Specially rise, I love rise-April so much, and that’s the only apriltello I’ll let it slide lmao) and that can give a “perception” that he wouldn’t even glance at some of us ( “us” = being a huge group, trans, guys, chubby girls, chubby guys, skinny girls and guys, everyone who doesn’t fit the normie mold I guess- I unfortunately think about that often. Which sucks cuz I gotta remind myself that isn’t true!!! At all!!)

I personally Headcanon Donnie being… I don’t know if interested would be the correct word, but more intrigued with how humans relate to each other, on their first missions, he knew they could… scare some of them off, “frightened by their own prejudice” as master splinter would say, but it’s far more different to hear about it than to actually live it, and it hurts to hear someone scream their heart out just by seeing you

While growing up, he started to notice not only in television, on and off midia, how people would mess around with others on the street just because of their appearance, he knew society worked though this beauty standards, but he didn’t understand it. It didn’t made sense! value someone based on what they look like? There are so many things, so many attributes to make someone interesting, and you gonna pick the most…. Boring? Plain? Vague? Shallow reason to create privilege over others? Really? (And thst enters on the topic of how almost all beauty standards are rooted in white privileged and racism but I’ll go on a tangent about it once I start it and I’ve already said a lot lols)

He could literally go on for hours about this topic (which he has. At least tried with each one of his brothers, but they never really responded well to so said topic “if humans have it bad, then what do we have left?” Raphael barked back once, an attempt to shut him up, which it worked, btw- he didn’t like to go through that direction when thinking about that topic, but yeah, what does he have left?)

He started searching about different aesthetics, ethnicities, he has folders on Pinterest dedicated different body types, cultures, he swears it’s for research reasons, which kinda is, but Donnie’s guilty pleasure is checking “different” people online, those who would deem strange and weird outside the internet, he liked seeing their content and specially their comment sections being filled with wonderful compliments, people relating to different styles and tastes, that gave him hope that there are someone out there with different views of how everyone should be “shaped”, and that maybe he will find someone who thinks he’s handsome and desirable (Donnie, just like Raph, is also insecure about his body, but he’s more… melancholic about it, if you confessed to Raphael, there would be a high change of him pushing you away, trying not to break his heart from actually believing you, while DonDon here, if you both started dating- on some days Donnie would need more reassurance that yes, his partner does think he’s handsome/hot/attractive. Otherwise he might internalize his insecurities and it will be HARD to get a confession “why he’s so upset out of the sudden” from this turtle)

With that being said!!!! (My god I do know how to ramble) without even realizing, Donnie open his “preferences”? Let’s say, Became more open minded than most, While seeking comfort for himself, and when he says he doesn’t have a type, he really doesn’t. There are so many aesthetics that could be attractive! punks, goths, cottagecore, y2k, dark academia, light academia, grunge, fairycore, alt, the list is endless! And don’t get him started on physical attributes cuz there are so many different combinations that some how, people manage to connect the most random ones and make it look great

Donnie wouldnt fall for someone specially bc of their appearance, or that would be the first reason he would fall head over heels, when you think about it, what happened to April it was that she was extremely passionate and dedicated to *insert which cause she was fighting for* and took Donnie seriously, that light up a lightbulb in his head that has never been on before, people showing how ardently they can be into something, how much they care and such, that’s attractive to him, and after that, everything that person does, or is, suddenly becomes beautiful and amazing for Donnie

Withthatbeingsaidpart2- if Donnie did fall for someone more on the chubbier side, their “plumpy-ness” would def be something to call his attention out after he developed feelings, he longed for your hugs, specially after he found out how soft and warm they were, he actually started having more naps after you caught his heart, imaging how it would be to cuddle someone as soft as you while hugging his pillow late at night on his bed (which eventually he would doze off from day dreaming so much)

Talking about day dreaming, Donnie can totally lose himself in his mind, just like with his projects, he can imerse himself in a fantasy about you two easily, which makes him totally freeze when you show up and he actually have to say or do something he has been constantly dreaming about

So please confess first, cuz when I say he can lose himself in his daydreams, that can last for months until he actually gathers courage to do something about it

While in a relationship, Donnie is totally a hopeless romantic, but not the typical “roses and candlelight’s dinner” kind, as your boyfriend, he wants to help you out no matter what, he will make aaaaas many inventions as he can that might increase the quality of your life, becomes easier to do… whatever, literally. And he always longs for your adorable reactions to his gifts

He adores your chubby cheeks, he will! Get lost! in your face! Your eyes! Eveything! He will oh so slowly caress his knuckles softly across it, sliding to your neck, traveling through your arms, he likes to squish your face a bit as well while cupping it when he goes for a kiss, he just thinks everything about you is adorable (and hot at the same time)

He really like the contraste his skin has with yours, it’s so foreign for him and he can’t help but to love how smooth your skin can be, (which leads his mind to ahem. Certain kind of thoughts. If you know what I mean)

Just like he needs reassurance about his appearance, he knows you probably had to deal with more than one unpleasant comment about your physique, so you don’t even have to ask, Donnie is so whipped with you, compliments about you just drip of his tongue, and it’s always so sweet, followed by a pair of soft eyes, always admiring you, plus, Donnie is a science / fact man, he would gather information about other cultures that value more curvy, chubby, bigger people, he would go as far as making a slide presentation how wonderful and more inclusive people are being (even if it doesn’t seams like it, and there’s still a long way to go) he would include real opinions online other than his on the matter that your body is indeed, a snack, (aaaaaand he is once again right, aaaaand just like everyone else you just have to live with it and accept it 😌 end of story)

He would definitely “put up to test” his theory of how amazing it is to cuddle someone who’s more on the chubbier side (and his theory is ✅ correct)

Cuddling becomes a weekly thing for you guys, that being you sitting on his lap, having naps, watching movies together, he loves to create or update his projects with you on his lap, holding you grounds him. Plus it’s easier to speak some kisses on your cheeks that way

He finds out some people on the heavier side stops themselves to live some experiences the hard way, he never wants to make you uncomfortable, ever. But it takes a while for him to understand why wouldn’t you like to, as an example, wear a bathing suit/ swimwear around other people, wearing lighter clothes when it’s absurdly hot during winter time, that you don’t like when he picks you up? things that don’t connect right away. he promises himself to never force you to do anything you don’t want to, but he slowly will try to support you to do whatever you have always wanted to but stopped yourself from doing so bc of your weight

He would take extra time while making out with you, he wants you to know how much he loves your body, every inch of it. Lowkey likes to drag his nails on your tights and mark you

Overall? Donnie is extremely thoughtful, independently of how his partner look like, if they were “part” of some sort of outcast from society, he would take his sweet time to show how important and special his partner is, he is extremely thankful to be able to experience love, something that not only him, but all of the boys, thought it was out of their reach for a really long time, so you bet he’s going to show how appreciative he is oof your love, of all of you 💜

FIRE FORCE SPOILERS PROBABLY!!!

a praising (???) of Viktor Licht from a fan (im not good with words bare with me please)

ok i feel like im a little obligated to say why i like Viktor Licht from fire force so much considering not only do i have a full list of every chapter in the entire manga he appears in, am on my journey of making stickers of him, and draw him practically anytime i can. my teachers this year are going to see this guy on my work just a bit. (i am lying it's going to be a lot.)

okay, im like 99% sure he's autistic. and im autistic. the autism radar is going insane whenever i look at him. if you take a look at his character sheet, which is at the back of book 10, it says something next to his nickname section that just SCREAMS autism to me.

in case you can't read it, it says, "i do understand common sense, whether or not i choose to use it." that sounds like what i, and many more autistic people have to do. i understand what's acceptable, and force myself to use it even if i think it's strange or unnecessary. also, hes only seen making direct eye contact with people he trusts, like shinra or joker. the rest of the time, he's staring, but not in the eyes of anyone. he's also very blunt with that he does. in his very first company 8 appearance in the beginning of book 7, he dives down to touch shinra's feet because he was interested in the adolla burst. in book 22 when they were in the nether, Viktor is running, turns a corner, and accidentally activated tamaki's lure. except it doesn't really bother him, because he's happy to see his company members, ignoring what he just did on accident.

again, in this panel here, he's very open with what he's wanting to see when they're quite literally infiltrating haijima, despite being right beside the security guard. shinra even comments on this, but he seems to have thought that it was a totally okay thing to say. shortly after we are told that he's aware that haijima is planning to kill him, and just talks about it like it's a regular thing to have a major company want you dead.

he also has a very active workspace, as shown here. yet, in the chapter before he's sent to the chinese peninsula, he knows exactly where his needed stuff is in the mess. that might be more of an adhd characteristic, but it seemed like a good point.

another highly regarded autistic trait is being incredibly fixated on one thing, wanting to spend all your time on it. Viktor's hyperfixation is science, and figuring out spontaneous human combustion. he's seen dedicating most of his life to figuring out why people go up in flame. it's said that autistic people excel in their chosen area of study, and of course, i think you can guess what his is.

he also has trouble regulating his voice level, usually seeming to get louder when he's excited or very nervous, like when he yells on accident in the nether the second time when he realizes that he's going to be "roasted alive". he gets all giggly and excited when talking about science in the right panel (or bottom panel??), even when it's a serious topic. he does get feedback that this is a "weird" and "inappropriate" time to be excited. sound familiar, fellow autistics??? on the left (or top! again i have no idea) he's instinctively raising his voice at shinra, wanting to know about what happened to him in adolla.

i don't have the panel yet, but in book 10, shinra and sho are fighting in the nether, right? (this book is literally THE viktor licht autism book im telling you) he accidentally gets too close, smiling and laughing once he realizes, even saying "whoopsie daisy! i got so excited, i got too close for comfort!" during this whole fight, he's watching his friend get injured in the fight, and he's worried at times, yes, but when he's explaining sho's power, which is science based, he's smiling. he even messes (stims, really.) with his hair and gets sweaty, which are both common autistic responses. as he watches shinra and his brother fight, he notices that shinra could quite literally make a black hole in the middle of the room. and y'know what he does? giggles and smiles again, saying it would be "a scientist's dream" to witness a black hole. not sure that a regular scientist would want to die getting sucked into one, but okay.

i was looking through an "autistic traits in adults" list just to make sure i didn't miss anything, and woah boy. "makes unusual or strange facial expressions". cmon. it's stated from multiple people, mostly tamaki, that the faces licht makes are weird or strange. he also used his hands when he's talking quite usually, either touching his face or using them to express urgency. mostly his face, though. another stim maybe??

there's probably more y'know cause he's just all around an autistic guy, but that's my little analysis of his autism summarized. now that i think about it this is more of a "why he's autistic because i love his autism because it gives me someone to relate to" kind of thing but i can go into that now cause that's kind of a good idea.

OKAY so y'know i really do look up to Licht because he really just makes me smile everytime i see him in the manga. im a manga-only btw if that wasn't clear already. i own the emglish omnibus books which are 3-in-1s basically and i cannot tell you how overjoyed i was that Licht got on the cover of the fourth one. i admire him in so many ways because one, hes this scary guy in the beginning that even makes shinra turn away at the tryouts, all nervous. just for them to become besties later, saving each other's lives like 9 times. hes the type of guy that I just love so much, and not romantically either. i don't want to kiss him or anything, i just want to be his friend. ykwim. maybe. but yeah, he's my favorite and he'll always be my favorite and my c.ai chats with him will forever be positive.

i highly recommend fire force by atsushi ohkubo, and may Viktor Licht captivate you as being your favorite when he makes his grand entrance in book 7! :]

Do you think IzuOcha is well developed though? because I feel the romance aspect wasn't really that well developed like I can definitely see and know that they'll most likely will end up together(unless Hori throws us a curveball and doesn't have any endgame pairings but I doubt that), but I don't know it just doesn't feel like it really developed all that well which I guess makes sense given that's not the main focus of the story I don't know? I guess maybe I feel like that because I'm not really a shipper 😅

So here’s the thing

They’re not getting married and having kids within the timeline of the manga

They’re in 10th/11th grade, just starting to somewhat experience these feelings. And on top of that—you’re right that it’s not the focus of the story because the story has WAY too much other shit going on for it to be the focus. It’d be entirely stupid if it was and I myself would be annoyed.

So “is it well developed” is just…not important. They’re not shot gunning a wedding or anything. Ochacko’s ordeal with Toga is about a CRUSH. It’s just a crush! And it’s been portrayed as exactly that! And you can see Izuku’s appreciation in her presence and support too. They’re just crushing on each other, but it’s not a huge deal because *gestures toward the stuff that matters a lot more in the manga*

I used to think this was a flaw or whatever but honestly….I don’t view it that way anymore. Is there enough planted into the story to where it won’t be completely out of nowhere and a total asspull from thin air if we see them holding hands or going on dates at the end? Yes, there absolutely is. I don’t need Fruits Basket or OHSHC levels of romance development for two teens experiencing a confusing crush for the first time in their lives in the middle of a war to be convinced that they’d date later on.

People can critique it if they so choose, I’m not going to anymore, because honestly imo it’s dumb to need them to be SO DEVELOPED and dove into so deeply in order for people to be convinced they’d go on a date post war. I just, I find that kinda silly tbh given what the manga focuses on and explores outside of the romance that takes up like 🤏 this much of the manga, doesn’t interfere with anything, doesn’t take away from anything, all it does is just adds to it.

I really don’t care that they aren’t explored to extents like Tohru and Kyo or Tamaki and Haruhi like…this isn’t a romance manga. If it was we’d have a problem, but it’s not, so imo there’s no problem.

Anime-Manga Comparisons, episode 17.

I hope I have enough self control to not Renge-out about this Kyoya centric episode, but I don’t have faith in myself. As I said last time, the manga Karuizawa arc is over, but in the anime they make it a trilogy of episodes with this being the final one. This is also part of volume seven, not six, because volume six was all about the battle for the central salon and Kuze and Kanan. I would have paid a lot of money to see them in the anime!

The manga starts off introducing Kyoya, in case we forgot who he was already, but the anime starts with a really foreboding image of Yoshio and his voiceover, and then Akito and Yuuichi too. They’re all shadowy and a little creepy, and now that I think about it, it’s almost like Kyoya’s having a nightmare. I mean, I would too. Also, he wakes up sitting down in the anime, but standing up in the manga. Not a huge difference, but his more dishevelled anime look fits better.

Interestingly, the anime points out his low blood pressure, but the manga doesn’t. I guess that part of him comes later in the manga?

Haruhi says Tamaki would be devastated to know of Kyoya’s motives in the manga, but in the anime straight up says he’d cry, which is more accurate frankly. Also anime Kyoya says he just wants to look around some more before he leaves, but manga Kyoya gives us the more iconic “I don’t like to ride in strange vehicles right after eating, I’m a delicate boy.” If the anime had that line, there wouldn’t be a need for twenty more minutes of the episode because right there is him at his silliest, Tamaki-ist, and most true.

Manga Haruhi asks about his brothers and he actually gives her a normal answer, complimenting them and telling her that being the third son is an exciting game for him, but when anime Haruhi asks about them he brushes her off completely because he’s still pretending he’s unknowable. Haruhi calls him unfair because he knows everything about Haruhi’s family and he finally gives in and we get a flashback. This flashback doesn’t happen in the manga as far as I’ve seen, but god does Kyoya have a pretty face.

In the manga the melon snacks scene happens first, and then the confronting the seller scene but in the anime it’s the other way round. The anime also omits a scene before the confrontation where Haruhi reaches out to touch a vase and the seller swats her away and calls her an ‘ignorant window shopper’, Kyoya doesn’t rush to defend her at first, but he does go on to stop the old woman from buying the counterfeit bowls. Manga Kyoya says that the woman’s ring and kimono is what tips him off, and the flag isn’t there, but instead it’s people obscuring her. Haruhi calls him out and tells him that what he gets from the club isn’t tangible, but something else. Unfortunately before he can try and weasel his way out of it, the lost kid announcement plays.

In the anime scene, we’re looking at melon snacks. As Haruhi is having a sudden breakthrough she’s distracted by Kyoya calling for her, but in the manga she straight up slams into his back while they’re walking. He’s pretty solid and doesn’t seem to even notice, but he does notice her adorable little giggle, as we all do.

The anime adds an entire scene for the other hosts screwing around in the mall, where we see Renge performing a skit for the kids, and we meet Antoinette, who never returns again after this point. Sorry girl, you’ve brought absolutely nothing to this show! You’re still a good girl, though.

Renge’s skit reminds them of Kyoya via one of the Host Rangers, but the host ranger colour is black instead of purple, which is weird considering how much time we spend looking at their significant colours. It helps the others remember their favourite token evil teammate, at least. Tamaki looks especially embarrassed at forgetting his best friend. While they’re worrying over him Haruhi and Kyoya are sitting on a bench with a significant bit of distance between them, using an information board as what I can only guess is a visual representation of the wall between Haruhi and the hosts. Or maybe I’m just looking too deeply into nothing. Kyoya’s sandals are ugly as hell.

Haruhi gets to talk a little more about Tamaki here, how they’re similar, and we get callbacks to Tamaki being his loveable self and even a flashforward to his later episode. He’s probably about to declare his love for the idiot, until the announcement happens and his character development cranks all the way back.

Antoinette licks Tamaki all over his face and Kyoya wonders how he’s anything like him. If you’d gotten Noel in this anime you’d be the exact same and you know it. Since he calls him an idiot and Haruhi calls him out on lying earlier and acting like an egoist when he’s not. She kind of implied he’s an idiot, too, which is correct. The anime ends with Haruhi escaping with the melon snacks and having the upper hand, but in the manga Kyoya calls his bodyguards off screen and they tie up the rest of the club as punishment, giving him the last laugh. Haruhi still makes off with the snacks, though.

Today is actually the anniversary for the last time I hurt myself, so I’ve been clean for exactly 2 years today. The relationship is pretty new in this. It’s really not my best work, but it’s okay I guess.

Tamaki was very observant, but he was always a bit hesitant to interfere with the things he noticed. He didn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable or stick his nose where it didn’t belong, but he was worried about you.

You weren’t doing so well again, you felt like your anger was bubbling just beneath the surface, and it would explode out of you if anyone crossed you in any way. So you aimed it inwards, all that anger, all that hate and rage. You didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings or get into a fight, you didn’t want to be so angry. It was a vicious circle of hating yourself for being so angry which fueled your anger even more.

You were lazing around in Tamaki’s dorm room, while he finished his homework. You’d already done yours so you had some time to just lay around. You were scrolling on your phone and came across some post one of your classmates had made. It was about Tamaki, Mirio and Nejire, about how they were a bunch of stuck up morons who thought they were special. You didn’t read any further, because your blood was already starting to boil. You dropped your phone on your chest and hit the floor next to you a bunch of times, way harder than necessary.

“Oh my fucking god people are idiots” you hissed as you sat up.

Tamaki was looking at you with a bit of an odd look on his face. You couldn’t really decipher what it was, but there was something mixed in with his normally anxious expression.

“What?” you asked, trying to get your anger to simmer down.

“You do that a lot when you get annoyed” he stated, putting down his pen and turning to face you in his chair.

“Do what?” you asked, tilting your head to the side, even though you knew exactly what he was talking about.

“You hurt yourself. I’m not sure if you do it on purpose or if it’s just a reaction to when you get angry but it’s not good either way” he said and got down from the chair, sitting on the floor next to you.

You shook your head, but you weren’t really even trying to deny it. You just sighed and leaned your head against his shoulder.

“I’m just so angry all the time and I don’t know how to control it without doing that. I don’t want to hurt anyone”

“But it’s okay to hurt yourself?” Tamaki asked softly, but his voice was full of worry.

“I think it’s the better option, yeah” you said quietly.

“I-I don’t want you to do that to yourself, I want to help you figure out something else that can help, something that isn’t self-destructive” he said adamantly, though anxiously.

“Can we just drop this? I don’t really wanna talk about it” you sighed with frustration.

“I don’t want to force you, but I’m sure there are healthier ways to deal with all your anger we could try to figure some out-”

“Drop it, please?” you interrupted him almost begging him.

Tamaki sighed. He knew he wasn’t good at confronting people, but at least he had told you he was aware of the situation. Maybe you could come to him the next time you felt like that.

“Okay, but I just want you to tell me if you feel like that, so I can try to help”

“I’ll try” you said, even though you weren’t really sure if you would.

You know what, after hearing your opinion of Fire Force, I can see why you felt the way you felt about it. The Assault and Tamaki interactions I get, wasn't a big fan of it myself, and the references could look outta place to someone else.

I guess I was someone who enjoyed it even with the flaws it presented at times, while the issues you had with made you fall out of it.

I just hope Fire Force didn't hamper your love for Soul Eater too much, though I wouldn't blame you if it did.

Honestly, yeah, how Fire Force wrapped up hampered some enjoyment I get from Soul Eater, mostly because "this is the same timeline now," less "this is Ohkubo." I can separate enough of Soul Eater thanks to fan content; it's harder to stomach "the same timeline where Maka and Soul exist owes itself to Shinra creating Lord Death and Tamaki being some symbol."

That being said, it's not like I have given the franchise as a whole full consideration, so, I'm biased, and that's on me. I can mention stuff I know from the Fire Force anime, but I haven't sat through the anime. I can appreciate people enjoying the animation, music, acting, and art, and I get people being excited for stuff being animated later (I'm not sold on the Dragon versus Arthur fight, but I get how people can be excited). But the plot, and the timeline shenanigans, and trying to fit old Soul Eater canon into what seems contradicted by Fire Force canon, and what ends up happening with the characters -- all of that doesn't convince me to give the anime a try. (And I cringe expecting reactions to the live-action stuff adapted into the anime.)

Plus, I did pay attention to the manga a lot before the anime announcement, and I can see good stories that can be told with these characters. I just never imagined these characters existing 800+ years before the Soul Eater characters. Kind of a bummer outside of time travel nonsense that having legitimately fun interactions between Ohkubo's characters is limited.

Well goddamn, Daigo. I can only guess that was a part of his all-around terrible behavior that emerged when his world felt like it was crumbling. Of course, though, that’s still an awful way to act. It reminds me of the substory for him in 0 when he’s being a much more toned down kind of awful to that lady, and Kiryu points out that it’s not normal for him to act that way. It’d be interesting to see how he’d be with woman when he’s more levelheaded.

If you don’t mind me asking, what are your thoughts on Daigo and possibly being gay, anyway? It’s an area of intrigue for me in a way I can’t properly explain 🫠 Maybe due to being queer myself I wind up thinking about stuff like that.

Choosing a heartthrob type actor who doesn’t seem to do a lot of stuff like Yakuza and has a multitude of suggestive photo shoots makes me wonder so much. He’s not the usual choice compared to a lot of the other actors here. And what they used him for in the original version of Ishin is also just ???? There’s too much stuff in this series that my brain hooks onto and rotates endlessly. Even when it’s a character that doesn’t get thought about much 💀

Sorry I’ve been rambling so much. I really appreciate what you’ve shared with and done for the fandom, and it really gets my curiosity going.

How Daigo acts in Y0 is definitely in line with him ending up that way, because he's clearly begun to internalize certain beliefs about how he should act and what what he should want. It's very much not normal for a kid his age even if he doesn't fully understand it.

So, you know, there's stuff to chew on, but at the same time constantly showing that a character's hit his "lowest point" by having him victimize a female character gets old, and I'm glad Yokoyama stopped relying on that as shorthand.

I'm queer as well, so I think it'd be pretty cool! A huge draw to the series for women and queer people is the homoerotic subtext (which is, on occasion, text). And the subtext with Daigo really is intriguing, of course in terms of what we've talked about with Mine and with women, but also with Shinada and with Nick, for example.

When I've got the time I'd like to talk about it in a separate post (or in an ask to Snap in all likelihood lmao) but I'm like, 98% sure Mine just assumes he's gay and it's incredibly funny to me. Mine is certainly not Free of Projection, but still.

I honestly think Daito fits the casting pattern, though! There's at least one standout "heartthrob" in the cast of most of the games since faceclaims were introduced. Out of the actors I'm familiar with, Shota Matsuda (Kenzan), Hiroki Narimiya (Y4), Daito (Y5 and Ishin), Arata Iura (Y0), and of course Takuya Kimura, Shosuke Tanihara, and Hiroshi Tamaki (J1 and LJ) all had that reputation; even Tsutsumi did in the past. I think there's an understanding that the female fans are here to stay and are worth catering to.

Uhhhhh only tangentially related on the topic of queerness and faceclaims, honorable mention to Peter (Dead Souls) who is just straight-up one of Japan's most well known gay and GNC performers. Honestly. Slay. I love that he got to work with RGGS (even if, as usual, he plays a villain...)

With Ishin, it's definitely an interesting case, because with how Takeda and Todo are portrayed, it carries implications for whoever is "cast as" those characters. Because there's the acknowledgment Hayashi and Awano are, y'know, fruity, and there's also the acknowledgment Baba and Zhao could believably be desirable to gay men.

I suppose it kind of had to happen though. While Ishin does a LOT of original things with its concept, Takeda has to be Takeda, and Todo has to be Todo. In real life, Takeda did prey on younger members of the Shinsengumi (some believe Hijikata had Saito assassinate him after receiving complaints of this), and if one wanted to acknowledge that within the main story, well, Todo is the youngest captain.

In terms of casting, I think it's a mix of being dead-set on having an "all-star" cast (for the time) and needing the cast to fit "the image" of who the historical figures were. So Todo would naturally need to be someone who's boyishly handsome (even though Baba is 30 lmao). And hey, turns out we've got a really well-liked character that fits the bill right there in Y5, which was the best-selling RGG game by far in Japan until (I think) YLAD.

the first scenario: singing (OHSHC)

basically, my oc will be singing for the host club.

i was minding my own business in the bathroom, singing to myself, when i came out of the door and was immediately greeted by the hitachiin twins at the door.

“gah!! what are you guys doing here?” I yelped.

“we were only strolling by when we heard that lovely voice of yours,” they spoke creepily in unison. “we thought it was just so nice that it had to be shared.” they emphasized “had.”

i shook my head. “no way! i don’t like being put on the spot like this.. i’ll have you know i have stage fright!” i retorted. despite all the vocal lessons and praise i grew up with, i still had a awful fear of singing in front of others, let alone the host club. i wasn’t worried that they’d be mean, but i feel more inclined to not mess up like i’m afraid i could because i like them so much. “that’s too bad..” they said in mock defeat before scurrying away. from the devious looks on their faces, i knew they were up to something, and could only dream of what.

when i went back to the club after hours, i saw the club doing their own little thing. the twins noticed my arrival, and i could have sworn i saw the most evil of glints in their eyes. “boss, you know what we found out?” they said together.

“huh? what is it?” tamaki asked curiously. “it’s about elise!” hikaru spoke. “yeah, she’s got an amazing voice, but she said she didn’t want to show us!” kaoru finished, all with a crocodiles tear running down his cheek. “so mean!” they said in unison, hugging each other dramatically.

“really?” honey-senpai added. “i want to hear elise-chan sing!” he giggled, hopping out of his seat and running to me. “please??” he pleaded with puppy eyes. “uh.. oh dear..” i mumbled, knowing i wasn’t going to get out of this one. then tamaki came and asked, the twins begged again, even kyoya said he was interested!

“i-i guess… since everyone asked..” i spoke quietly.

the host club stood around expectantly, and the twins with triumphant smirks on their faces. i threw them a halfhearted glare they only chuckled at before thinking of what to sing. i decided on a song i’d seen in a movie that i found to be beautiful.

- after song -

i stood there nervously, fiddling with my dress and looking to the floor, and when i took an experimental glance up, i was surprised to see almost shocked faces, and tamaki had tears in his eyes. “that was beautiful!! spectacular!! amazing!” he babbled, going on and on about how nice it was. i felt a blush of embarrassment come to my face and i looked down again.

“that was so good eva-chan!!” honey cheered, and mori added a grunt of agreement, clapping lightly.

everyone else added their praises, causing me to hide my face in my hands. “really? i sounded that good..?” i asked nervously.

“yeah elise,” haruhi said. “your voice has always been amazing, i’ve told you that a million times.” she said while patting my back reassuringly.

“YOUVE HEARD HER BEFORE?!” almost everyone shouted together.

“and you never told us?!” kaoru asked.

“it never really crossed my mind to. if she wanted you to know, she would have said so herself.” haruhi shrugged.

“elise-chan, you didn’t want us to know?” tamaki asked, saltwater threatening to run down his face like a river. “that’s not it!! i just never knew how to bring it up, and i’m not a fan of singing in front of others..” i said the last part awfully quietly, though haruhi could still hear.
