Does anyone else who reads a lot of steddie fic get the vibe that a lot of fic writers just,,, don't really like Steve? So so tired of the trope of Eddie constantly making fun of all of his interests and music tastes and it being presented as totally okay and Eddie is right, actually, because his interests DO suck. Or the pile of fics that turn Steve so ooc he is completely unrecognizable because they turn him into a weak, crying damsel who needs Eddie to constantly save him. I also personally hate Punk!Steve because it usually just ends with completely stripping Steve of any of his unique personality traits and giving him Eddie's personality. Or making his entire life revolve around Eddie, he goes to every Hellfire and every band practice, like let him have hobbies and a life outside Eddie!
I think it comes from people having Eddie as their fave, and people like to ship so they ship him with Steve, but they don't really see Steve as an individual character in his own right and just treat him like Eddie's accessory.

classmate who told me that they thought i might be a poser bc i wore "too much black" a couple weeks ago told me this week, slightly horrified, that they thought i might be "kind of a dark person" after i delightedly scrolled through stick figure violence images to show them + our other group member. no matter what at least i am still fucked up and strange in the eyes of normal people...

I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN
I knew that the second I saw Hobie Brown get popular again (who is a great character 10/10 don't get me wrong) I'd also start seeing a ton of clowns start saying shit like "Taylor swift is punk actually" and "you don't have to listen to punk music to be punk" and "I love the punk aesthetic but hate the music"
THE CULMINATION OF THIS????
Someone asked me if my battle vest (which I've been working on for years atp) was part of a hobie brown cosplay.
Anyways here are some things about the punk subculture that y'all need to know:
-It is a MUSIC-BASED SUBCULTURE. If you aren't listening to punk music then buddy you ain't punk. Idc what band(s) you listen to but like. That's where the punk culture started man. Do some research.
-punk is secondarily about values. This is why you have Nazis in the punk community alongside hardcore anarchists. Since it's music first, and values second, there's a lot of different mindsets. Primarily it is about being anti-authority. That's what most punk music is about tbh but Nazis are just stupid and will do some fantastic mental gymnastics to make punk music fit their agenda. There's a song called "fuck off Nazi punks" for a reason
-you don't have to "look punk" to be punk.
-you can "look punk" but not be punk (we call these people posers)
Punk as a subculture has a long and rich history. A huge part of it (that often gets ignored) is from small pockets of black people in the UK that were rebelling against systemic racism. A lot of it (meaning the music) is based in revolution, disrespect of authority, and going against the mainstream. That's where a lot of the fashion comes from too. Handmade, shitty d.i.y stuff, stolen stuff, cheap stuff, all of these things are punk fashion because that goes against the mainstream ideal of consumerism and because the founding movements behind it were rooted in lower class struggles against the bourgeoisie. You don't see many genuine billionaire punks. We are not here to look pretty, we are here to smell bad and break shit. And listen to fucking sickass music

I always feel so weird when I see companies making mega expensive “punk” and “goth” clothes. I used to know this other person who kept on wanting to get into the goth scene, and another one of my friends literally was so willing to help her and get her started out with like music recs and clothing tips and she’d constantly tell us. “Oh, but dressing goth isn’t accessible for me. I don’t have the money.”
Which y’know makes sense, not everybody has the money to drop on getting goth clothes. Especially when your priorities are literally keeping a roof over your head and paying bills. We’re all from working class families here. But then we just kind of realised she was referring to the shit you’d find on like… Killstar or Dollskill and everything made a lot more sense. It’s been making me think. Ever since alternative subcultures such as goth, such as punk, even grunge tbf have made their way into mainstream fashion trends on the internet it’s made people believe that the only way you’re able to get clothes to “dress the part” is to fork out shite tonnes of money to these ridiculously overpriced online clothing stores. (You don’t even have to dress goth for example to be goth because it’s a music based subculture but that’s a whole other thing.)
The way trends are today with this whole, “aesthetic” thing along with the consumerist HELL that is fast fashion sparks a wave people just buying swathes of overpriced clothing to hop onto a clothing trend that is actually ripped from a subculture they don’t really understand? Like part of the whole core of these subcultures is that we are anti-consumerist and anti-capitalist. You are a fucking joke.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking negatively about people who truly want to get into these subcultures. There is nothing wrong with that at all, of course there isn’t. I’m talking about people who will see a fashion trend and just hop onto it and really have no idea what they’re doing. (This is part of the reason why I believe it’s unlikely we’ll ever have a new subculture as big as previous ones ever again because of just how everything is a trend now.)
Fashion that has been born from these subcultures has always been DIY. Making your own battle jackets, thrifting pieces of clothing and tweaking them to be how you want. Like… I don’t know about you babes but I don’t think goths in the 80’s were getting their clothes from fucking Hot Topic.
The fact that companies are now and have been making ridiculously priced pieces of clothing to capitalise off of: 1.) People who want to hop on trends because they don’t want to make the clothes they just want the style now, and 2.) People who want to genuinely get into subcultures such as punk and goth but may be misguided as to where to get clothing just makes me so fucking mad because it makes getting into the fashion within these subcultures seem inaccessible and consumerist-ridden when they’re absolutely not meant to be.

jude + he/him + nineteen
FTM, femme, faggot, fat boy, colorfreak and general rainbow lover. I’m a sophomore in art school, a lover of obscure indie pop, and a guy who makes transgender penis jokes on the internet. Stay weird with it always, yknow?
I’m very attracted to hairy fat men and general hot queer and trans people and this is 90% of the content here. if you do not want to hear me talk about my desire for boypussy this is not the place for you!!
Art: @fagboyfriend
Twee/Indie Pop blog : @upforabit
dm for nsfw blog
selfies are under: #Jude pansyfem irl
putting a short faq under cut bc. i get the same questions a lot. check it before you ask about my icon or header or anything
faq:
How long have you been on T/How do you have a beard at 19? I came out at 12 years old, started blockers at 14 and HRT later that same year, and had top surgery at 17, making me 5 years on t and 2.5 years post op.
What show/game/comic is your icon from? its a cropped version of the album cover of the 1999 album “shake the pounce” by vancouver based twee pop band Gaze. It’s a favorite album of mine as well as just a cool little guy i like a lot
Where is your header from? a painting i did in gouache a year or two ago and thought would make a nifty header.
Oh come on, you’re not unboyfriendable! “unboyfriendable” has been my title for a long time now on account of it being a lyric from a song that means a lot to me, “all my little words” by the magnetic fields. i promise i am very fuckable im just really into sad music sometimes
How do I refer to you? Actually, i don't get this question a lot, and I shouldn't, since this info is both in my pinned above and in my bio. But a lot of people still seem awful confused. I am male. FTM. I use He/Him pronouns and masculine terms with the exception of compliments like 'pretty' and all that. I am not nonbinary, and do not like to be referred to gender neutrally. I simply am a trans man who enjoys gender non conformity and cross-dressing.
Are you Bi or Gay? this world is full of beauty. im queer. take that how you will. I like hot people but especially like hot men.
What style are you wearing/where do you get your clothes? I started by wearing my personal version of the japanese fashion subculture Decora Kei. My decora became a bit messy and grungy, and while i do still identify as a decora boy and wear full coords from time to time, i consider myself now someone who enjoys colorful fashion and takes influence from 90s harajuku fashion, punk subcultures, drag and other campy fashion. I shop a variety of places, but a lot of my stuff is from Kei Collective or Candy Trap.
What is Twee/Do you Make Music? Twee is a music genre I developed a special interest in a few years back. It's a style of indie pop that originated after the UK rise of the famous c86 compilation tape in the late eighties, and was developed with a focus on low-fidelity, diy sound combined with upbeat, bubblegum-y pop sentiments and a naive, childlike outlook. It's both cute and somewhat rough around the edges. I do not make music, and don’t hold any musical skill. I’m just a major fan.
Do you take commissions? you may direct all art related questions to my art blog inbox, but for the time being, please just dm me for commission info. I take them on a case by case basis currently, im a full time student and have a lot on my plate. I’ll let you know my availability and pricing upon request, but i generally prefer the ‘you tell me your vision, i give you a quote and you tell me if that works for you’ model of pricing because each peice is considered its own thing in my mind. Pricing for ‘full body’ or ‘lineart’ doesnt work for me beacause the media and subject doesn’t really dictate how much time or effort a peice will take for me.
Can you boost/reblog this post for me? This is a tough answer, i know, but if we are not mutuals, or I do not know you, I cannot do that for you. My reasoning being that I have been baited by very similar asks in the past that turned out to be scams, and I do not want to take the risk of spreading misinformation or scams now that I have a much larger following. I do my best to spread stuff that ends up on my dash and/or I can factcheck, but if I do not have that, I will be wary, considering my past interactions.
Can we be friends/Can I DM you? Anyone is welcome to send me a message of any type at any time, unless I have those settings changed, in which case i likely have it off short term, because i experience fairly regular transphobic harassment and i find it the best way to protect myself. However, just understand that I am a stranger on the internet. I don't always want to continue every conversation, and I'm not online all the time. I have all push notifications for tumblr turned off, including asks and dms, because it's much better for my mental health to be able to opt out of tumblr the moment I close the app. So, if i don't respond, i'm probably just doing something else or didn't see your message. And, if you come in full force flirtatiously, i appriciate it greatly and i'm sure i'll let you know, but i'm pretty shy one on one. Additionally, i may not respond if you're a blank blog, way older or younger than me, or honestly.. anything that makes me uncomfortable. so like. all of these are pretty basic rules but, people don't follow them so i must clarify.
Do you have a DNI? I haven't in a long time, due to it being pretty frequently ignored and my following count growing to the point i can't really control that anymore. I can and will block people, but i feel my opinions are made fairly clear through what I post here.

I've never minded the term aesthetic. But I do agree that fast fashion needs to be put to a stop, that it's ruining the true definition of cultures and subcultures such as goth, punk, grunge and even turning people's cultures into aesthetics which I think is entirely inappropriate for them to make a claim on.
I believe alt subcultures are so much more than a trend. I got into gothic music and even emo music, I've always liked both. When I was in middle school. I liked the music, the literature, dark things before I even found the fashion and fell in love with it.
I've always been an eco warrior, anti capitalist etc. And found that my true self was goth. I can like things that aren't goth. It doesn't make me less goth. But that's the difference between someone whose in a subculture and someone whose doing it for the trend.
I always say be who you are, truly and authentically. Don't hide behind what's trending.
I have no hate towards the word aesthetic itself. But I do see the harm in what capitalism has done using aesthetic culture.

if is it ok to request, what if April brought her best friend down to meet the bayverse turtles? But her bestie is goth/punk with piercings and tattoos? looks a little intimidating but an abseloute sweetheart?<3
love this idea, thank you for your patience as it's taken me so long to get to this x
Also this is 100% like my best friend, they're super goth and tatted up to the 9's but they're also a massive sweetheart
Tumblr media
Leo
"hey, I have someone I want you to meet" April calls from the doorway to the lair
Leo knows who she wants him to meet, she's been going on and on about how this friend is finally in town and she would love to hang out, all of you guys together
he puts on all his charm
"And who is this lovely-"
then he sees her
lips, eyebrows and nose pierced, hair dyed in an acid green/black split dye, dark and black ripped up clothes, tattoos covering every inch of visible skin
"-wow" is all he can make out
she's the complete opposite of April looks wise
"No, keep going. You were about to tell me how lovely I look" she jokes. "Hey, I may not be barbie girl pretty but I bet 'ya anything I can kick your ass at call of duty!"
that softens the mood and makes everyone a little more relaxed
and she was totally right, Leo was fighting for his life playing that game with her
when it's finally time for them to leave she calls back "And if you think my hair is cool, just wait til you see what I can do with a paint brush, that shell of your's is going to put the Sistine Chapel to shame when I'm done with it!"
Leo just laughs, thinks she's a great girl
"Never judge a book by its cover" he mouths to April as she walks out the door
Tumblr media
Raph
He knows April is there, he can hear her joking with Mikey but he can hear another woman's voice
he walks in to say hi and stops dead in his tracks when he sees who she's with
"......"
"Raph, it's rude to stare" April scolds
"It's ok" he friend reassures "I just have a natural allure that's irresistible to men and turtles alike, it would seem"
that makes him chuckle, she's funny, he's glad she's funny
"The, erm, the..." He keeps touching his nose, clearly indicating towards her septum piercing "... like a bull" is all he manages
"Well, I am a taurus" she quips back
he laughs again
tensions settle after that and he gets on with her like a house on fire
he asks her later what he first impression of him was, since it was clear he was taken aback by her appearance
"My first thought was whether or not you'd fit through the door frame, holy shit dude you're built like a truck!"
the rest of the evening is spent with a lot of joking and laughing, April's friend can give as good as she gets and Raph likes that
Tumblr media
Mikey
He's so excited to meet April's friend
so much so, he's prancing round the place trying to get everything ready
when April walks through the door with her, he his jaw drops
"Devil lady!" he says in a tone which indicates he clearly thought that was a compliment
"Masked turtle man!" she replies with the exact same enthusiasm
the two of them bond over how cool she is and how cool Mikey is
comparing stories and boasting, all in good fun, until they both get a bit carried away
April has to put her foot down when her friend tries to give him a stick 'n poke tattoo on the kitchen floor
"It's not sanitary! Put the ball point pen away! He's gonna get sepsis!!!"
eventually they all retire to the sofa and play guitar hero, which April's friend does not do too well at
"I thought all you punk chicks knew how to play guitar" he says
"Nope, we just date guys who do" she laughs
After they leave Mikey is begging April to bring her round again
he still wants that tattoo
Tumblr media
Donnie
He's not the best at meeting new people
but, he actually feels more comfortable when he see's April's friend is alternative looking
he loves a good social outcast because he is one
they bond over talking about the history of subcultures and the ecological impacts of fast fashion and why you should DIY all your clothes or thrift them
April is ind of just sitting there like "what have I done? Putting two nerds in the same room..."
When the subject of tattoos gets brought up she mentions a couple she regrets
cue Donnie and his inventions
"I have a laser remover!"
"No" April pipes up
"It's totally safe, it's just-"
"N-O! No!" she reiterates
her friend mouths "When she's gone" and winks at him
the two of them are fast friends

I love voidpunk but I’m also curious about if there are any guidelines or rules, like what things are allowed and what things aren’t? /genq sorry if you’ve answered this before or answered something similar and I missed it I’m not super pro at finding stuff 😭 also double sorry if it’s an offensive question to ask. I’m genuinely not trying to offend you I’m just trying to learn more and since I’m kind of a baby queer I want to make sure the words I use fit me.
You can check the voidpunk tag on my blog, since I have talked about it before, but I'll go over some quick points:
There is no "requirement" for participating in voidpunk. Anyone who tells you "oh, only such-and-such group can be voidpunk" or anything along those lines is lying. HOWEVER:
The "punk" part of voidpunk is not there for no reason. It is tied to the punk subculture and it's best to have a general understanding of this subculture before participating in voidpunk. Also, voidpunk is specifically a reaction to dehumanization, and it's important to understand that certain people experience this more than others. People of color get dehumanized. Disabled people get dehumanized. People with personality disorders get dehumanized. Trans people get dehumanized. Aspecs get dehumanized. etc. etc. We are here to call attention to and take power away from this, not to be niceys about it. I left the voidpunk subreddit and its associated Discord server because it was full of entitled white cunts who acted like they couldn't possibly be racist because they were autistic or some shit and I was being sooooo mean and disruptive for asking them not to be blatantly racist, and I just want to make it clear that if this had been a real life social group and not an online space, I would have knocked their teeth out. Understand? That said, you don't have to be every oppressed minority ever to participate in voidpunk- you just have to be respectful and willing to listen.
One misconception I see very often is that voidpunk is some sort of personal identity along the lines of otherkin, etc. This is not true. Voidpunk is an aesthetic and philosophy, NOT about genuinely believing yourself to be inhuman. There certainly may be people who identify as both voidpunk and otherkin, or what have you, and that's fine! That's cool! I love those people. But they're not synonymous and should not be treated as such. You don't assume I'm really a vampire because I'm goth, right?
Also, the "void" part of voidpunk doesn't really mean anything. Genuinely, it was chosen because it sounds cool. I think another misconception I see sometimes is that voidpunk specifically is about like, literal voids or shadows or black holes or space or something, which is not true. It's kinda whatever. There are as many flavors of voidpunk as there are blue guys in the X-Men.
Have fun!

Honestly tho with some of the notes I'm getting on my "Fuck Killstar and Punk rave and punk/goth/emo gentrifiers" post. I'm a little confused.
What's the point of being in one of these subcultures if it's not a hobby?
because I see people complaining about it being hard to do which... not really unless you have some sort of disability that prevents you from holding scissors or using pliers or sturring a pot. but I digress. It is a bit labor intensive if not technically very difficult but like... isn't that sort of the point?
Like, ok, it's a subculture. You're punk you go to punk shows, you listen to punk music, you go to the goth club on the weekend. Like making a battle jacket is a punk hobby. Yeah it's time consuming and a bit labor intensive. It's knitting for punks it's supposed to be that way. Being punk isn't about buying the right clothes and throwing out your old wardrobe so you can look cool, that's what fast fashion normies who shop on Shien do when their wardrobe goes out of fashion. That's not very subculturey. Being Punk is about having a little hobby where you throw on some Dead Kennedys and sew pieces of a cut up old shirt painted with your favoriate bands to a jean jacket using dental floss whenever you have some free time you're looking to fill. And it takes you many hours. and then when you're finished you wear it till you die. That's what a battle jacket is.
So too being goth is about throwing on a Sisters of Mercy album and boiling an old dress in black dye that you bought for 5 bucks from michael's and doing that until it's actually black, and being Emo is about putting on Mayday Parade and spending hours applying hair dye in exactly the right places to get raccoon bangs. It's a hobby, it's not just clothes.
I'm not gatekeeping here I own multiple band shirts I bought from Hot Topic and I needed to get my striped arm socks somewhere (BTW if you buy socks for your legs that is cheaper than buying arm socks just buy socks for your legs and cut holes in the right places they become arm socks) You're not like, not a real goth if you own a few items that you bought pre made. sometimes you get birthday money and you want a little treat, we've all been there. But if you just buy literally all of it and don't make anything yourself why even bother? Like oh boo hoo it takes so long to make ????? That's???? The Point???? DIY is a hobby as much as it is a fashion work around????

I've been feeling kinda down lately, but can I request some headcanons for Cg!Hobie with spiderman!regressor!minor!reader who's trying to get into punk culture but feels like they're copying him? im sorry if im way too specific :c
(can I be 🕸️anon, please?)
Of course 🕸️that's not too specific at all! I'm sorry it's taken me a minute to get to, but I hope you're feeling a little bit better :) And I hope this is okay!!
Tumblr media
Given that he's Spider-Punk, he'd have immaculate music taste and once he gets to know you, shares it with you too! It's something you bond over, even if you're not exactly into the subculture just yet.
He casually recommends you some bands like the Bad Brains, or The Muslims, just because it's stuff he thinks you'd be interested in. You give 'em a listen and after just general interest, you find yourself falling deeper into the culture as a whole. It's not just about the music of course, so you delve a little deeper into what it actually is.
Once you do though, your kind of unsure of what it means to you. How to really immerse in it. So much of it resonates with you and you want your own perception of it, but you're not quite sure where to start. That doesn't mean you don't have a good example though! Hobie's a ton of inspiration.
I can imagine that when he finds out, he's nothing but supportive. Like, he gets genuinely excited, eyes lit up and everything. He has someone who's into the same thing he is? Hell, yeah he'd be into it. "Wait, really? Thas' amazin'! No, really. You think I'd lie to ya? Pfft no chance mate. I'm just excited we got somethin' in common!"
He'll try to hang out with you more often now that he knows you're both into the same thing! Not only is it something you can both talk about, but it brings you closer.
He doesn't mind at all if you take inspiration from him or "copy" him. He knows it's not the easiest to figure your way out with this sort of thing. He wants you to have your own thing, but he's cool with it either way. Even giving you some advice and especially helping you out whenever you need it.
Brings you to his shows and even teaches you how to play if you're interested! (Or if you play a different instrument, you play together) If music's something you bond over that is. If not, he finds other ways to share it with you/get into it.
Fuck societal and gender norms, you two do whatever you want. The more people who're just utterly confused, the better because hey, it's not their life!
And fuck capitalism too, in every way. You pirate, help out those who need it whenever you can regardless of their "status," and just do/be whatever you want. That's the whole point of it anyway, and Hobie couldn't be happier to do it with you.
And really, you both are like two peas in a pod. Different yeah, but always there for each other. You're friends! And being a part of the same subculture only brings you closer together. Even if you weren't, you'd still be close, but it's just nice to have that. Plus, Hobie's got someone else to relate to and he wouldn't trade that for anything 🖤

She's in Parties
Twisted wonderland characters with a goth girlfriend feat. Trey, Jade, Floyd, Jamil, Rook, Silver, and Lilia cw- fem! reader, confident! reader, fluff, goth author freaks out about goth music, very long post
Tumblr media
I notice how often the fanfic community focuses in on the clothing/makeup relating to the goth subculture, and while there will be a lot of that in this post, I want more people to experience the music. I left a goth song recommendation I think fits each character, from gothic metal to softer new wave. No gatekeeping here.
Trey
Trey is definitely not knowledgeable about the goth scene, he listened to a few songs here and there, and probably had a minor emo phase in middle school
He does however enjoy the slower more melancholic goth songs you play for him, or more sweet/romantic songs
Trey is usually the one keeping law and order in his dorm, so sometimes he likes having calming activities like baking and picnics to get away from it all
Having a goth girlfriend, someone who can really understand his perceivable struggle of mundanity, and bring a spark of excitement to his life is a gift he will always appreciate
He would love body mods, like tattoos, piercings etc
Tattoos especially if they have meanings behind them, he thinks they’re like stories on your skin
This man has no clothing comprehension (fedora), he straight up doesn't care what you're wearing
He does however, really like when you wear funky jewelry, and leather jackets
Something is just so sweet about your caring attitude towards him, contrasting with your look that tends to terrify people
We would make you bat shaped cookies 100%
A song that you and Trey listen to together would be Ecstasy by Strawberry Switchblade
“Maybe if you pair the red leather pants with the fishnet top, it’ll match your makeup.”
Jade
You might look like the dark, mysterious part of your relationship, but we all know that title goes to Jade
This boy is, unnerving to say the least, but you’ve always been a fan of strange things
He absolutely adores your aesthetic, even if you tone it down for school, or wear trad goth makeup every day, he’s obsessed
I feel like jade would enjoy gothic films, like The Crow, or Nosferatu, along with a long list of horror movies
“The movie itself is a bit overwhelming, but the plot is so delightfully dark, I think you would really like it dear.”
He probably does listen to goth music, more post punk and new wave type stuff, like The Cure, so a part of your music is not new to him
But he’d love to be introduced to more vibrant gothic music (it makes for a good hiking playlist)
He loves all types of gothic makeup on you, but especially enjoys 90s’ goth makeup, with tight black eyeliner, and burgundy red lipstick
Something about the simplicity of the style, along with the somber tone of the music you listen to makes Jade’s heart flutter (if he has one)
A song that would remind you of Jade is Heaven or Las Vegas by the Cocteau Twins
Floyd
He’s a lil creepy guy himself! You guys are two peas in a pod!
Floyd loves having a goth girlfriend, the fashion, makeup, music and general aesthetic are right up his alley
We know our boy loves shoes, so he would absolutely adore it if you had a funky shoe collection, from tall and heavy platforms, to cute yet sharp winklepickers
He would love loud gothic rock, extreme music hypes him up before a big game
I read in floyd’s wiki that he dislikes restraint, so the loudness and brashness of gothic rock would be something he really enjoys
In terms of fashion, Floyd is one of the few boys who would definitely allow you to give him a makeover
Tease and gel his hair, layers of silk over fishnet and leather, you can really go all out
Be careful though, because he’s also the type to come running for hugs and kisses right when you've finished getting ready
Floyd thinks that the best looks on you are the ones that require layering, he loves seeing you look like a shapeless bat creature
His most favorite part about having you as a girlfriend is how easy it is to find you in the stands during a basketball game
Floyd definitely gives you some freaky fish nickname, like ‘anglerfish’ just because he’s a meanie like that
"Anglerfish! I found a sweater you'll love, Its got bats all over it!"
A song that Floyd would like is Head like a Hole by Nine Inch Nails
Jamil
Jamil caught your eye due partially to his dancing skills, and his hair
I mean look at it, the boy is a walking shampoo commercial
He really is clueless about goth music, you really have to keep him on the shallow side before throwing him off the deep end
“So, you like music about coffins and funerals then?”
He really does enjoy your aesthetic quite a bit, every time you come home from a day of shopping (at a thrift store most likely) he encourages you to give him a little fashion show
Kalim might have been mildly terrified the first time he saw you, but then he realized how happy you made Jamil, and accepted you!
Pre-overblot, he enjoys more angry, loud gothic rock, but after, he asks you to introduce him to some softer goth music
Jamil has always dreamed of giving his significant other a life full of joy, so sometimes he likes fantasizing about a future with you, and dancing to romantic goth songs
A song you and Jamil dance to is Heaven by The Cure
Rook
Ooolala a mysterious figure shrouded in darkness? He is intrigued
You definitely notice him, and you definitely ask him out first
(he swoons)
Rook is a perplexing character, he never really shows any interest towards your music, before suddenly turning up with a full playlist
Turns out, he’s been keeping track of the songs you mention in passing conversation and blast in your room
He loves you in long flowy black skirts, with full trad makeup, he thinks you look so beautiful
“Mon petit ange, you look absolutely breathtaking, villainous beauty like yours is dangerous!”
Rook is most definitely the of boy who goes out in the middle of the night with you for an impromptu photoshoot, or walk through a graveyard
You two have a very ‘Morticia and Gomez’ type relationship, considering just how obsessed this man is with you
He writes poems about you
Rook probably also adores romantic goth songs, especially the weirder ones
A song you two would listen to together is Temple of Love by the Sisters of Mercy
Lilia
Scene bf x goth gf
Look at him and tell me he doesn’t avidly listen to My Chem? You can’t.
You two are two birds of a feather! (a crow’s most likely)
He absolutely adores your sense of fashion, and how it aligns with his own, just be aware that if you have any cool hoodies/jackets, he will steal them from you
Speaking of clothes, he loves any of them on you, especially bat-like clothes, like black shirts/dresses with long flowy sleeves and flared pants
“Hehehe we match in both clothing and personality!”
He also listens to goth music, and considering he’s ancient, he’s probably experienced some classic bands in concert
Would love to share his most macabre stories with you, if you want to hear him ramble
Lilia is a fan of all genres of gothic music, especially the funky kinds of music often blasted in goth clubs
You two are very like minded individuals and that keeps you both very happy
A song you and Lilia would dance to is What’s Inside a Girl? By The Cramps
Silver
He’s so soft for you
You just cause fear wherever you go, and Silver’s just there, softly smiling
He doesn't listen to loud music unless he’s trying his best to stay awake, but when he is trying to sleep, he prefers the more mellow stuff
“Do you have any really calming music I can listen to?”
He cares so very little about what you wear, but he likes you in velvet so you're soft to cuddle with
Silver cares a lot about you, so if he sees people making bad remarks about you, he’ll confront them, he’s scary when he’s mad
He enjoys watching gothic movies with you too, but might fall asleep mid movie
Since the Diasomnia uniform is all black, he gets a little kick out of matching with you
A song Silver and you listen to as you lounge about is Lorelai by the Cocteau Twins
Bonus! More alternative songs that remind me of the boys :)
Trey-  Linger by The Cranberries
Jade-  Nocturnal Me by Echo and the Bunnymen
Floyd-  Nasty by The Damned
Jamil- Kiss me, Son of God by They might be Giants
Rook- Gentlemen take Polaroids by Japan
Lilia-  Time by David Bowie
Silver- Sacrifice by London after Midnight

something I've been thinking about is how interesting it would be to see the goblincore/gremlincore/corvidcore type aesthetic to evolve into an actual subculture. obviously for starters we should change the name bc anything ending in -core just doesn't sit right with me? unless of course it becomes that "placeholder name turns true name" sorta deal but ANYWAY.
main three key elements I've noticed that tend to make up a subculture is: style/outfit presentation (the optional part), belief system, and music genre(s).
style and presentation: (like what you wear), that part is already obvious if you ever followed the aesthetic at any point. (it was trendy for a time I think, is it still trendy? bc idk if it is but that's not stopping me from loving it.) basically wearing majority earth colors like browns and greens, stuff like hobbit-esque cloths or sweaters and stuff. definitely LOTS of nature based themes or just wearing weird trinkets. gotta go for that "creature directly out of the chronicles of spider wick" type look you know?
with the clothes (and often interior design I've noticed, which my entire bedroom would probably fit the aesthetic actually) one thing I've noticed for most who are into the aesthetic is there is a LOT of DIY. also going out and collecting things you find (anything from mystery trinkets to dead bugs and sticks and rocks, which I grew up doing and would call myself a tinker bc I made stuff out of what I found very often).
belief system: I feel like, above all else, beliefs commonly held among people in this aesthetic is to respect and be in nature, as well as do not waste, reduce and reuse. a lot of environmentalist like stuff, as well as seeing and respecting the beauty of nature, from butterflies and flowers to dirt and corpses. I don't have a solid concrete answer for belief system, but hopefully that sums up my view on it.
music genre: folk/folk punk, fantasy DND type genres, and nature based lyrics and vibes. from my experience and digging around, there's less artists who catch the vibe of this aesthetic all around (bc that's not what they're trying to do), and moreso having a couple or handful of songs that fit so very well. unless of course it's a genre of music that is enheritly matching to this aesthetic.
anyway, I'm not great at explaining the music aspect of it, but I feel like if it's magical and yet sorta punk-like that can work. no limits here yet, I have a playlist on my youtube that definitely pushes the boarders but who cares? the thing has celtic woman and httyd score on it. I just think if this evolved into having music for the genre (idk if we could call it a music based genre since it didn't start that way but I mean overall having a genre of music dedicated to this aesthetic-turned-subculture) it would be really interesting to hear what comes of it.
circling back for a minute, I feel like punk comes hand-and-hand with a couple of things here, but specifically mainly eco-punk. like diy, reduce and reuse, etc. as well as the music, while not deeply punk still feels like it would have a punk undercurrent.
I also think this could parallel well with goth, with the dark romantic sorta stuff. the music and belief system having love and adoration for the strangest and darkest aspects of nature, similar to goths seeing beauty in the darkness and creepiness of the world.
if anyone actually read this I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on my little rant (suggestions for bands/musicians and similar subcultures/subculture parallels are very encouraged) bc I grew up doing pretty much everything within this aesthetic long before I knew it was a thing or maybe even before it was a thing. that isn't meant to be gate keepy. I mean that when I found out just how many other people liked and did the same things as me, it was just so cool. so I just really wanna talk to people about this and I think something like this aesthetic could easily become a subculture one day.

forgive me if i don’t make sense bc i don’t really know how to articulate this, but taliesin talked a lot about “trying to figure out what punk means in exandria” and wondering what’s there to be angry about. and after the last string of episodes i feel like that it’s a question that he baked into ashton’s character. like yes ashton is punk and they have justified anger but the Rest of their anger is deflective to stop them from interrogating themselves and their decisions further. idk it’s really interesting to me
It is! It's something I really love about Ashton and it's something I think Taliesin was very thoughtful about in his character creation. I think Taliesin is extremely strong in character creation in general, and it's a rare person who can make a character based on a philosophical premise who also feels very real.
That really is the core of Ashton, and I think it's a great commentary. I do still intend to watch The Decline of Western Civilization Part III (winter break perhaps?) but I am broadly familiar with the gutter-punks on which Ashton was based, and again, the punk movement as a whole. There have always been politically-minded punks; but I advise you look up the backgrounds of, say, the average Fugazi/Minor Threat, Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, or Propagandhi musician because they are, by and large, middle-class white guys with relatively stable and happy childhoods, and the idea of Ashton as someone dedicated to the Tumblr uwu kindness is punk "look at this perfect baby who doesn't steal pennies how kind and generous to only take literally everything else" archetype was always a massive projection. They've always been far more in the model of the Break Shit, Get Wasted punk than, well, the straight edge and veganism of the above.
(I also think that while it's true that a lot of punk houses did take in anyone and were something of a refuge for many a la Color In Your Cheeks, there was also a lot of Missing Stair Fallacy shit going on in the punk community even then. Ashton is in fact an example of the flaws in that sort of subculture: the Nobodies were there until they really, really weren't, and that's not unusual for that kind of punk friendship. It's found family until you're too inconvenient and dangerous to make it worth it. Taliesin explores this a lot, incidentally; that was very much what he was doing with Molly, and I would love to hear him talk about that kind of surface-level closeness that isn't strong enough to stick because as someone who both participates in fandom and loves to observe and analyze fandom as a phenomenon itself, it's a very real dynamic.)
Ashton has had an awful life. That's the premise. Nothing good has happened to them. There are plenty of valid reasons for them to be angry. Some are people who deserve it (their parents for the fucked up ritual; the Nobodies for abandoning them; Jiana Hexum for exploiting them), some are people who don't deserve their anger but to be fair haven't done anything to deserve their respect either (Percy, the gods), but many have been perfectly kind and reasonable and Ashton has rejected them because they're in a position of authority or seemed too nice. And there's plenty of stuff he's mad about that isn't easily pinned on anyone; the chronic pain is a shitty side effect of one or both of his traumas but no one person is responsible.
Ashton is an incredibly cynical person, and this extends to himself. As I've said before, I think they absolutely mean it when they say that they would have done the exact same thing the Nobodies would do, and this has been used to both cover up the intense hurt that came from their abandonment, but also, I think part of Ashton's own self-loathing comes from the fact that yeah, they are the kind of person who'd have done the same, and that isn't a very good person, and being angry at the Nobodies and Jiana and the world at large has allowed him to avoid looking that truth in the face. Ashton has always bounced between "I'll be the best broken thing I can be" and "what if I could be more? what if I could be what I could have been if things went well?" and also "who the fuck cares" and the reveal, that when the chips are down, he will make an ill-advised and self-destructive choice from that place of pain and anger has really rattled them. He can't keep just being angry and using that to shield himself from difficult questions. It won't just kill them, but it will hurt everyone around them too.
A really ugly truth of life is that even when something is completely not your fault and even when you have been dealt a rotten, unfair hand, often, you do have some degree of responsibility to deal with it ("And if it isn't my fault, I certainly didn't do anything to deal with it," as Ashton says.) The mere act of being angry is cathartic but doesn't actually solve anything. I think that's Keyleth's message to Orym, actually; it's not fair, and you're angry that it's not fair, but you need to use that anger to do things yourself instead of letting it consume you or passing the buck because it sure as hell isn't your turn. Ashton has, since the solstice, been playing tug of war with the idea that this anger has perhaps not been serving him, and he finally lost. Initially they realized a lot of this anger had been self-pity, but then, as they said, one week of thinking their parents actually were something led them to do the exact same dumb cult shit. Instead of stopping and listening to Evontra'vir and Allura, he said "no, I'm special, actually." And to be clear I think their motives were incredibly complicated and well-thought-out on Taliesin's part. It's not just because of his parents, it's not entirely selfish or out of heroics but those certainly did play a part, he did genuinely think it would help but he also ignored a number of warnings that it wouldn't. Again, I think the parallels between Ashton and FCG are glaringly obvious this episode, except Ashton hid their feelings with anger and FCG with a focus on everyone else's needs.

Also here's the thing about Taylor Swift calling herself "goth punk". There is literally nothing stoping her from listening to a bunch of goth and punk music for inspiration and making a genre and aesthetic switch. None of us would listen to it and we'd all bully her for it but she's very rich she doesn't have to notice us doing that. But instead of putting on corpse paint she's putting on clown makeup and walking out here like "Better Than Revenge had an electric guitar in it so basically I'm super edgy." And then the egirl Swifties wonder why we gatekeep. It's because the scene is a rich subculture with audacious fashion and experimental music which pushes boundaries and y'all want to demean it until it means a girl in shien leggings who listens to Paramore but only Still Into You and Ain't It Fun. I know the same bitches who are drawing little black hearts on their cheeks and getting mad about us gatekeeping against people who have never even heard a Siouxie song are the same people who threw eraser bits into my hair in middle school when I had it teased up and bullied me for wearing a choker I made out of a belt. You want to be cool and jaded like us but you don't want to actually be cringey enough to dress like and listen to the same music as the freak tranny you went to school with who wore socks on his arms and safety pins in his ears, well guess what that's what goth and emo and punk is. When you're the outcast, and you've been singled out your whole life, dressing scary and listening to loud music and getting angry and using the aesthetics of pain and death become a way to take your power back. They can't accept and embrace that weirdo outsider element and that's why they'll never be genuine. They don't care about that shit they just want to be someone's goth gf.

What is the New Generation of Delinquents?
~*,`¢
Tokyo Revengers plot circles around Bōsōzoku subculture, which is why I love it as deeply as I do.
!! Update: Discussion Piece(6.14.23): Tokyo Manji Honorary Division
Bōsōzoku culture derives/d from lower class Japanese youth who’ve banded together to express dissatisfaction with Japanese Society.
America is very familiar with countercultural movements lmao. Punk/Grunge/Metal/etc…
Youth are aimless, reckless, and rebellious.
If you’ve ever enjoyed the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton , you know this is a prime example of brotherhood bonds between lower class hoodlums. In Oklahoma, of all places.
Otherwise known as; Yankii, Sukeban, Kyushakai.
Who is a Yankii?
The Rise and Fall of Bōsōzoku
When Bōsōzoku Youth evolve past crime, Kyushakai
#GirlGang: Sukēban<33
This article is really awesome in explaining cultural differences, feel free to read up on some if you’re interested.
Today I plan to point out a few:
Tumblr media
Yankii Mothers / YanMaMa; Ryoko Baji
early ’90s, yankii men occasionally entered construction and teen women had children and dropped out of high school — both stereotypes that persist today. *The young yankii mothers — yan mama — were often ostracized by other mother groups and struggled to assimilate to their new identities as parents.
Within a year of publication, Yan Mama Comic had reached of circulation of 120,000, helping to bond socially isolated communities of young mothers.
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT FOLKS; Ryoko and Baji’sDad were definitely two yankii teens who fell in love and had a kid too young.
Headcanon! That Keisuke’s parents were set on making a badass life together, and be awesome young parents with the coolest and toughest new punk kid to add to the books!
…But, they were still two idiots. Baji’s father probably ran head first, sacrificing himself in one way or another, I’m sure.
Tumblr media
This leads you to wonder ~..
How did everyone else come to this lifestyle?
What is Their Social Injustice?
(All headcanons but kinda factual,so…)
Mikey: all younger siblings admire their older brothers! Shinichiro was the leader of a biker gang, of course Mikey would want to follow in his footsteps! So Mikey’s reason soon turns to::
Shinichiro: By being a overall stand up guy, true to his word and genuine to a fault, he had a strength not a lot of people had. He welcomed friendships with BlackSheep, and made a home for them however he could. Strong ally’s stood by him and as long as he’s around, they would support his ideals in shaping a better future.
Draken: was literally born into it. Escorts have been judged and poorly treated left and right, taking care of yourself—with a child to boot; was hell for a women. Unwanted kids of “filth” aren’t usually welcomed in social circles. The Children bare the injustice of inconvenience. By living with escorts and witnessing first hand the “low-class work” so many have had to endure to make a decent way of life, Draken learned young that life was unfair. So to live, you have to make a way of life for yourself, unapologeticly.
Mitsuya: Poor kids are looked down on a lot. Made fun of for things they can’t control. Kids with jobs are looked down on for being in the working class so soon. With a mother who was never home, and taking care of two younger sisters, he needed strength to deal with how unfair his life was. Meeting Draken, and realizing that the struggle to survive and keep trying to have a family even when it’s hard, he started respecting his mother a lot more. He found a sense of belonging Toman…
Baji: also literally born into it. Grew up with a single mother who was looked down on for being young/dropping out of school. Supporting her as the only Man of the house, Keisuke takes after his mother’s confidence. He also is seen having an alternative sense of fashion, making me believe he is definitely a metal head.
Kazutora: dealt with a lot growing up. He was bullied for being a sheepish pushover. He was hit by his father for any level of individuality /expression of defiance. He was manipulated into always having to pick one right side, and that there was always one wrong side. He tries showing loyalty by giving everything he has to friendships that hurt him, without realizing friends shouldn’t hurt him. No matter who he was, there was never anyone he could just be a person with. Be a part of the perfect high status family you were born into, or face the punishments. He finds comfort when he finds a family he can trust and be a person who makes mistakes. Friends are meant to be treasured. And after meeting Baji, and joining Toman, he found somewhere he could belong.
Pah: I still need to look more into him I can’t lie.
Takemichi: Bozosoku culture is notorious for being social justice fighters, as the entire notion of a subculture is to defy societal injustice anyway. And that’s just who Takemitchi is; a friend to everyone.
Hinata: the prime example of Dating into the lifestyle. It’s easy to admire and possibly fall in love with people as passionate as rebellious, adrenaline junky teens. She’s empathetic to how others see Takemichi, knowing above all else, he loves her more than anything!
Emma: she never really got into being a part of the gang, but she was by association. All of her brothers. She’s always been the crown jewel of TokyoManji! But not only that; Emma isn’t fully Japanese. True, a lot of the cast is multinationality. But she has Mikey on her side. She is his family, and that makes her strong. Foreigners are often ostracized, easy to pick out due to her natural Blonde hair. (*blonde hair is also often an act of rebellion, she showing that she refuses to dye it black to fit in can also say a little about other issues-)
LETS NOT FORGET!!! TOMAN IS BUILD ON THE BACK OF “The Little guy who sticks up for the Weak”.
The series is based on what kind of world Manjiro Sano chooses to build. Every timeline is unintentionally set by his hand, because he is that powerful of a person. Because people follow him. Manjiro is the type of person who changes fates.
By losing Shinichiro; Manjiro loses Empathy.
Shinichiro was a charismatic and empathetic person, often putting differences aside to better the other person. He was a heavily respected person in the delinquent world of Japan as the founder of Black Dragon. He led Black Dragon with a humble heart and was treated with notable respect, while also being a big brother to all three of his siblings. Even though he was a weak fighter, he lead the Black Dragon with his immense charisma. Even years after his death, later generations of members still hold him in high regard.
A person like Shinichiro is the kind of man people follow. The Weak Guy sticking up for his friends; The One who Always Won..
In a subculture seeking structure, he is the perfect person to leading a generation of a kinder and more empathetic people.
So let’s wrap up the question!;
What is the New Generation of Delinquents?
