A moment of appreciation from an anthropology student regarding BP2: Wakanda Forever…
After the disaster that was The Eternals trying to recreate Tenochtitlan as a weirdly small looking RAINFOREST settlement (did they mix up the Aztecs/Mexica and Maya??? Wtf) with only one temple and no lake or canals in sight, I was so thrilled to see Namor’s Maya community be far more accurately depicted as being located in the Yucatan. The inclusion of Chaac and their prayers to him mirroring ancient Wakandan’s prayers to Bast and her gift was a very nice parallel that showed the similarities between Namor and Shuri before showing the stark differences between them in how Namor murdered the Catholic priests (honestly cannot blame him though).
Honestly there is so much I could say about Namor and how well the movie handled him and the Talokans. The traditional indigenous clothing, the use of jade (especially in Namor’s jewelry), the rainforest setting, the involvement of underwater caves, Chaac, the smallpox that the conquistadors brought with them when they colonized Mesoamerica, Namor’s very real rage towards the Spaniards for what they did to his people, the depiction of the enslavement of other Maya… it was so well done. Even Namor’s winged feet resembling hummingbird wings felt like a reference to how many Mesoamerican cultures believe hummingbirds to be connected to their most important and powerful deities. I give the movie a million thumbs up for those accuracies alone.
PS: I do still adore Eternals, but those inaccuracies… no thank you ma’am

When American archaeologist Edward Herbert Thompson dove into the deep blue waters of Chichen Itza's Sacred Cenote, little did he realize the blue sediment he encountered was the key to unravelling the mysteries of the ancient pigment known as Maya blue.
Decades later, artifacts dredged up from the bottom of the sinkhole provided clues to the sacrificial rituals which once took place at the sacred cenote. To appease Chaac, the god of rain, the ancient Maya would paint sacrificial victims and precious artifacts with Maya blue, before flinging them into the waters that connected them with the underworld.

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Namor of the Talokanil reveals that Chaac, the Mayan God of Rain & Abundance, gave the shaman of his people a vision that provided them the means to adapt to life underwater.
In Marvel Comics, Chaac debuted in Thor & Hercules: Encyclopaedia Mythologica #1 (2009), where he is also described as the Mayan God of Rain & Lightning, able to command the elements of the storm (such as wind, rain, thunder & lightning)!

Summary
As Shuri takes on. The mantle of black panther she learns the secret her family had kept of the protector’s role and powers. She unlocks more of her own along with her relationships with talokan and it’s god king.

“I came to Wakanda after losing everything my father, my husband, my children. Wakanda became my home I found comfort in, so a piece of my soul after being split clung to this land and it’s people. I healed with love, care, and honor of all of you so of course I would protect you as best I can.”
Headcanon: Bastet after ra left fled Egypt and found Wakanda at her lowest. when she was brought back and her spirit split to take on ra’s role in fighting apophis one half disappeared and went back laying dormant in Wakanda and it’s protectors.

Some photos from Mexico that vaguely relate to "Wakanda Forever"
Because I am a nerd.
Uxmal. This is a building at the Uxmal ruins, unfortunately I don't have many pictures because I was sick this day so click the link to more on Wikipedia. Uxmal is in good condition and it was also done in a "baroque Maya" style (according to our tour guide) so here it's easy to see a lot of the details of the carvings. In this picture you can see faces of the god Chaac (who is the god who led the Talokanil to the ocean according to Wakanda Forever) on the structure. The elephantine trunks are his nose and the circles are his eyes. But what's cool is that not one carving is exactly the same.
Chichen Itza. Here are some more faces of Chaac (most of the noses are missing) but you can see the eyes and the tusks on an outer building at Chichen Itza. Heeee's watching you.
Of course Chichen Itza is best known for "el Castillo" or the Temple of Kukulcan (what the Talokanil call Namor). It's not the biggest or more elaborate of the Maya temple, so it's kind of annoying how crowded it is there. But the temple still functions as a calendar and at the equinox the figure of Kukulcan appears to move up or down the side of the structure.

The Mexica called the rain god "Tlaloc" (some say this is the same god as Chaac) and he ruled over an underwater paradise called Tlalocan, where those who died by drowning went. This is obviously where the place name "Talokan" comes from.
Here is an image from the Archaeology Museum in Ciudad de Mexico (which I highly recommend). It's a recreation of a mural found at Teotihuacan. The museum says this mural is of Tlalocan and I got a magnet that says it is as well, but wikipedia says there are some that believe it's the Goddess of Teotihuacan, so you learn new stuff every day.
If you look closely you can see puffs of air coming from the human figures at the bottom. That means they are speaking. They are like ancient speech bubbles. That same symbol is also used for wind. The little people are my favorite part. They're all just minding their own business, doing different stuff.
Interestingly (and you can see it here) humans were often drawn having different colors of skin, like blue and red, and some scholars believe they painted themselves (a guide also told us it might be to show differences in tribes). But the blue-skinned Talokanil kind of fit. (I like the idea that it's body paint because it makes me think of all the crazy-colors of people in our Marvel mythology. Green-skinned Hulks, blue aliens, etc. Maybe we have similar imaginings!)
