It’s very different to experience trauma, be it physical or mental, as a child than as an adult. The result manifests quite differently too. When you experience trauma as an adult there is no gap in understanding. The challenge lies with repressing/suppressing trauma. When you experience trauma in your formative years, your mind often can’t comprehend what’s happening to you. It recognises the anomaly as normal and that creates many problems in later life: 📍 Trauma bonding 📍 lack of confidence 📍 Inability to create lasting bonds 📍 Inability to stand out as you’ve always practiced not attracting attention to yourself, as a defence mechanism Childhood trauma can affect your whole life — be it personal or professional. Be kind to yourself. 💖 Ask for help! You may need intensive therapy or a little hand-holding to gain your confidence back. [😞] Insecurity - We've all been there but what does it mean to you? How have you overcome your insecurities? ⭐I've felt insecure in different ways throughout my life. ✅ Financially - I grew up in an immigrant household. My parents worked factory jobs when I was young. I didn't grow up with luxuries at an early age which impacted my money mindset. I've had to rewire my money mindset which has helped me grow immensely. ✅ Body positivity - I felt quite ugly throughout my teen years. Being a South Asian child and teen in the city of Kitchener wasn't easy. I was often made fun of for the way I looked, how I dressed. I continuously tried to hide my true myself and tried to fit in as much as possible. Resulting in people pleasing behaviour. I had to reprogram myself to become confident in who I am. And not to mention my glow up and owning who I am, COMPLETELY. Not to say I don't feel insecure at times still but I'm able to manage my insecurities much better. ✅ Relationships - I've felt insecure in relationships for much of my life. Being in various toxic relationships (family, friendships, romantic) I've become an expert in this area. Needless to say, I had also contributed to the toxicity in the past. I had to dig DEEP here to change the patterns of relationships in my life. I had to begin with myself. This was extremely difficult but I am much happier today. I'm proud of the relationships I have and value them dearly from the heart. If you struggle with insecurity, you can get passed it. Insecurity was deeply rooted in my past. It is possible to be at peace and secure in who you are.
