The Hero twins, Hunahpu and Xbalanque have special powers. And, they are amazingly good at playing Pok-ta-Pok, a Mayan ball game. The thing is though, that angers the lords of Xibalba, who rule the land of the dead. And, so the lords challenge the twins to a game of Pok-ta-Pok in the land of the dead. The twins are gonna have to use all their smarts and powers to make sure that they survive the land of the dead.
European fairy tales, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and some Norse myths, I have those down, but, the Asian and especially the American (South and North) myths are always new to me, and they’re always so awesome to read. Human brains are human brains, and so it’s always so much fun to see how much they’re alike the other myths, legends, and fairy tales that I’ve read, and see how much they’re different.
This is also part of a series called Graphic Universe, and it has so many great books in it.
You may like this book If you Liked: Isis and Osiris by Cari Meister, The Lost Hero by Robert Venditti, or Gods, Heroes, and Monsters by Selene Nicolaides

I think the thing I love the most about Cloudtail and Brightheart's relationship is the fact that despite their very different religious belief systems, they don't shoot each other down over them. Cloudtail's atheism isn't a point of contention between them, because Brightheart knows he loves her and believes in her- and truly, that's really all that matters. Sure, Cloudtail may regularly scoff at the mention of prophecies and dead, star-speckled cats, but when Brightheart was at her lowest, it was him that was constantly defending her. When every cat doubted Brightheart's ability to become a warrior, it was Cloudtail who took over her mentorship duties and was so adamant on helping her reach her full potential that, despite his young age and complete inexperience with mentoring, he tailored her training around her specific limitations so that she could continue to hunt and fight as she did before. When Bluestar gave her the name Lostface, it was Cloudtail who refused to call her as such and kept pushing for her to be given a warrior name that best fit who she was as a cat, not what had happened to her.
Brightheart not seeming to be too bothered about her mate's lack of faith in StarClan when he's poured every ounce of faith into her easily makes them one of my favorite warriors couples of all time.
I completely agree, they are genuinely have such a good and healthy relationship and I’m so glad they’ve had the chance to grow old together, a fate which escapes most healthy warriors couples. BrightCloud is my warriors OTP and I am so glad that “a thief in ThunderClan” is doing both the relationship and Bright and Cloud themselves justice.
I know the book isn’t even fully out yet but so far it’s looking like everything I would have wanted from a Brightheart centric story, and given that she’s my favourite warriors character as it is, it’s something that makes me extremely happy.
Anyway thank you James L Barry and Dan Jolley from doing a spectacular job on these graphic novels, especially since you’ve started doing them yearly - each of these yearly ones have done absolute wonders for the focal characters in them.

A look at many Bruce Waynes of the DC Multiverse 🦇📚 #Batman #DC
•Bruce Wayne of Prime Earth is the DC Universe’s mainstream Batman.
•Bruce Wayne of Earth-Two is the Batman of the Pre-Crisis (on Infinite Earths) DC Multiverse within the ‘Golden Age’ era of comic books.
•Batman of Zur-En-Arrh, while its original incarnation refers to an alien hero from the distant planet Zur-En-Arrh from a Golden Age story, is Bruce Wayne’s back up personality after having a traumatic breakdown crafted by Simon Hurt and the Black Glove Organization seen in the 2008 DC New Earth arc ‘Batman: R.I.P’.
•Bruce Wayne of Earth-19 is the DC Universe’s Victorian era Batman seen in Brian Augustyn’s ‘Batman: Gotham by Gaslight’ (1989) and ‘Batman: Master of the Future’ (1992).
•Bruce Wayne of Earth-10 is the DC Universe’s Batman, known as Leatherwing, who is part of the Gerechtigkeitliga, called the Justice League Axis of the Nazi regime. Seen in Grant Morrison’s Justice League arcs in 2007 and 2008, on Earth-10, Germany was victorious in World War II with Hitler’s Nazi party taking over the world.
•Bruce Wayne of Earth-31 is the DC Universe’s Batman set within Frank Miller’s “Dark Knight Universe”, first appearing in Miller and Klaus Janson’s 1986 limited series ‘Batman: The Dark Knight Returns’, presenting a more grim take on an aging Bruce returning to the mantle to protect his dark metropolis.
•Bruce Wayne of Earth-43 is the DC Universe’s Batman who was transformed into a bloodthirsty vampire after his battle protecting Gotham City from Dracula and his vampire followers in Doug Moench and Kelley Jones’ 1990s Elseworlds series ‘Batman & Dracula: Red Rain’, ‘Batman: Bloodstorm’, and ‘Batman: Crimson Mist’.
•Bruce Wayne of Earth-22 is the DC Universe’s Batman introduced in Mark Waid and Alex Ross’ 1996 series ‘Kingdom Come’. Set within the future, an elderly Bruce Wayne mostly resides in his Batcave while his Batman robots are patrolling Gotham City.
•Bruce Wayne of Earth-32 is the DC Universe’s Batman who was given the power to become this Earth’s Green Lantern, seen in Mike W. Barr and Jerry Bingham’s 1994 Elseworlds ‘Batman: In Darkest Knight’.
•Bruce Wayne of Earth-37, part of the DC Multiverse’s New Earth, is the Batman seen in Howard Chaykin and Dan Brereton’s 1997 limited series “Thrillkiller”; Wayne is a Gotham detective who is going after the vigilantes of Robin (Dick Grayson) and Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) and takes up the Batman mantle after the tragic death of Robin.
•Bruce Wayne of Earth-40 is the DC Universe’s Batman who is a secret government agent during World War II, seen in Dan Jolley and Tony Harris’ 2000 2 issue series ‘JSA: The Library File’.

The Runemaster Homicide by Dan Jolley My rating: 4 of 5 stars Thank you so much to the author for providing a copy of The Runemaster Homicide for review. These thoughts and opinions are my own. This book was an engaging story that blended fantasy and murder mystery. Our main character, Nysska Stonegate, is a Sethyd. Her people were driven out of their homeland and now seek refuge or live on the outskirts of the Valconian Empire. After saving the Governor Pro Tempore Wendell Anwar from an attack, she is asked to become an enforcer and helps to carry out justice for the empire. After being reassigned to a new Crucible, the story really begins. They have a seer, called Cam, who has runes implanted in her eyes after living her entire life as blind. She can see crimes that have occurred in the past. However, something goes terribly wrong with their latest assignment and she cannot see what has happened. Nysska convinces the group to use old fashioned investigative techniques to solve the murder which opens up a whole new set of problems that the group never would have dreamed of. The magic system in this book was really interesting. It's also worth noting that the power of these runes also have consequences which adds more layers to the story. I also really enjoyed the character development of the 2nd group that Nysska was assigned to and Nysska's personal character growth. Nysska at first seemed very serious and clinical, but as the story progressed she became more humanized and empathetic. You get to see more and more of her personality coming through. I also like the story between her and Cam and enjoyed the romantic element that it added. Nysska still has a few unresolved secrets that will probably be illuminated in the next books. The plot was a little slow at first as it followed the first Crucible group that she was assigned to. There was also an SA scene, between Nysska and another character, when she revenge SA's a douchebag rapist. While the guy definitely deserved it, this may be a trigger warning for some readers. Also be forewarned that there are some elements to the story that could be upsetting to some readers. The Valconian Empire is a society where people are only valued if they have the ability to work and contribute to society. People who cannot contribute to society (elderly and disabled) live in squalor in fringe camps outside city walls. This is not something that is glorified but introduced as a possible reason for uprising and revolution. It also causes the main characters to question how they feel about the empire, which is a good thing, but could be uncomfortable for readers who are bothered by the subject matter. Overall, I really enjoyed the story. I felt emotionally connected to Nysska and the other characters in her Crucible. I'll be continuing the series. View all my reviews

i finished ASiR last night before writing hard to say farewell and i really enjoyed it! i do kind of get what people mean when they say it feels like feathertail and stormfur were switched, but for me personally, i think it would be way less compelling if stormfur had been the protagonist of this book.
for one, we have a good chunk of moonrise from stormfur’s pov anyway, so it’s not like we were exactly hurting for knowing how he thinks and feels about things. also, i think his willingness to try and swallow down the past and move on from it, insist to himself that riverclan is fine and things are fine — that makes it a lot more interesting to me that losing feathertail is what makes him give up riverclan and stay with the tribe. (and something about brook, sure, but like… his main emotional and familial tie to riverclan was gone.)
i also just really liked seeing these complex and dramatic relationships between female characters - feathertail’s friendship with sasha and then being betrayed by her, feathertail not being sure if she can trust leopardstar, leopardstar having her come to jesus moment and apologizing to stormfur and feathertail for what happened in tigerclan and being willing to give up one of her lives to save them now — i thought all of that was great!
i wish we’d gotten to see more of riverclan, like more of how mosspelt and blackclaw and heavystep and mudfur think and feel, but i think it was overall a smart choice to make feathertail the protagonist for this book, even if the hard shift at the end to suddenly putting the past behind her and fully trusting riverclan so status quo can be maintained during midnight is a little rushed.
overall really good stuff and i like when they let dan jolley write longer books.
(side note: i know a lot of the big wc youtubers pronounce it “joel-ee,” but it’s “jolly,” like the emotion. i got to see him talk at a “writing media tie-ins”’panel at multiversecon 2021 and that’s how he pronounces his name. also, did not bring up warriors books at all. straight up started wondering if there were somehow two dan jolleys, but nope. he just doesn’t like talking about it publicly i guess.)
