Okay so me and a certain someone were playing truth or dare, and like the bitch I am, I chose dare. And you KNOW WHAT THE DARE WAS??

Then I was proposed an offer I literally couldn't refuse SO I TOOK THE DARE and I'm gonna tell you pookies how it went because it's been stewing in my brain for the last two days

So it STARTED when we were in math class and my friend (y'all know the one by now. Resident tickle monster. Mal knows his name, too) was already poking at my sides, which is expected of him by now, so I just looked at him and said "so are you gonna tickle me or not?" and he like looked at me, shrugged, and said "since you asked." AND I WAS TRYING NOT TO DIE YK I HAD TO BE CHILL ABOUT IT CAUSE I GOT A REPUTATION TO MAINTAIN. So he like, put his arm around my waist, pulled my over to him, and just started like SHAKING HIS HANDS INTO MY RIBS AND I WAS ACTUALLY FUCKING DYING I WAS SO GLAD THE CLASSROOM WAS LOUD AS HELL because at one point even the teacher looked over at me and kinda rolled his eyes fondly. ANYWAYS

After that we were in my next class together, and I KINDA knew I didn't REALLY finish my dare and I was thinking about it, apparently I was thinkin real hard cause he pokes my back and goes "alright what's up? You good? You're distracted. Like more distracted than usual, what is it?" And I was like DAMN??? WAS IT THAT OBVIOUS?? LIKE EXCUSE ME??

SO I TOLD HIM "can you like.. tickle me again? Idk I just kinda feel like it." AND HE JUST SHRUGGED AGAIN AND STARTED SQUEEZING MY SIDES AND SHIT and it's worse cause he sits BEHIND ME in that class so I was just like dying with my head in my hands and mdjfjdjfjsjd. That's it. And he LITERALLY SAID "You're welcome." When he was done???? HELL. I QAS SO FUCKIN FLUSTERED BUT LIKE HE DIDN'T MAKE ANY REAL COMMENTS ON IT

Disabled people should be allowed to exist in public. Yes, I mean all disabled people.

That includes people with tic disorders.

That includes people who smell ‘bad’.

That includes people who can’t help being loud.

That includes people who move ‘strangely’.

That includes people with bulky mobility aids.

That includes people who drool.

That includes people who struggle with incontinence.

We all should get to exist, however that looks, and go out in public, use public transport, do activities outside our homes. And we should be allowed to do those things without being glared at or having ableist things said to us.

the origin of wick dreadlocks is florida usa, and are named due to the resemblance to a "candle wick" because of how they stick straight up and/or out!

now, wicks have a bad reputation even within the loc community.

its already known that like if you got dreads, generally, ppl think u are unkempt, and dirty, and things of that nature, but there is even more discrimination against wicks its unreal. like legit yall i cant even begin to explain the nasty shit ppl say about them because i will be sad.

its kinda just considered the "crazy Florida man hairstyle". and a lot of the hate is due to the fact that wicks, appear "unkempt" or things of that nature

there has been a lot of texturism in the loc community which has brought with it the idea that dreads need to be retwisted to be "properly" taken care of, and need to be flat on your head and all these other things that often bring with it the need to hide your natural hair. i get unsolicited advice on my hair all the time telling me "i need a retwist" because of the belief that black hair needs to be all tidy and stuff to be respected.

but the thing is, dreads aren't meant to be all neat and tidy all the time y'know. its black hair in one of its most natural forms. and who better to showcase that than hobie brown, spider punk?

wicks kinda go against everything that dreads are "supposed" to be and "supposed" to look like.

i just love everything about this movie but i especially wanted to like talk about this hair choice. hair most def has meaning, especially black hair, so i think this was a really cool and fitting design choice for his character and everything he represents.

(i did my best to like articulate my thoughts but hopefully this makes at least a bit a sense)

It IS ableist to laugh at politicians displaying symptoms of disorder.

It IS ableist to say that them becoming disabled is punishment for being shitty.

It IS ableist to say that a politician becoming disabled is a reason they shouldn’t be in office.

Those politicians are shitty. That’s it. You don’t have to being disability into it. Disability isn’t a punishment for being shitty. Disability isn’t the reason they shouldn’t be in office.

Also, that politician isn’t who sees you laughing at them for being visibly disabled— it’s your disabled community members who do.

Tbh, I hate most politicians. But them being disabled, fat, etc. isn’t why I hate them. I don’t need to talk about it at all actually. You can point out egregious human rights violations and abuses without ever mentioning them being disabled. When you actually hate someone for being shitty and harmful, but all you make jokes about it their disability, you’re not accomplishing anything helpful aside from furthering ableist stereotypes.

Stop and consider: Does this joke actually bring light to the ways they’re genuinely awful, or does it just make people hate them for being a part of a marginalized community?

It’s thinly veiled ableism and y’all will say we’re sympathizing when we’re literally just saying don’t pin their shitty behavior on them being disabled.

You can hate someone’s actions and leave their disabilities out of it.
