Chapter 3 of poppy playtime and the smiling critters saved poppy playtime (SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 3!!!)

I know that’s a big statement but hear me out.

Poppy playtime before chapter 3 had a bit of a bad rep. It was basically the punching bag of mascot horror. And can you really blame them? Hell even I thought it was bad in chapter 1.

Chapter 2 came round and it was definitely good! But the horror aspect weren’t on full play and if I recall there was a lot of controversy about it when chapter 2 came out.

But chapter 3? Oh my goodness it’s incredible. And is what really hooked me and a lot of other people in to poppy playtime. And the smiling critter’s basically branched off into there own fandom. (I’m apart of by the way)

I mean for starters gameplay. They balanced horror,gameplay,puzzles and story so bloody well in this chapter it’s unbelievable,and the pacing is brilliant!

And the horror 😨. It would be an understatement to say this was horrifying. First of all nightmare huggy wuggy just in general also we get a glimpse into the orphan experimenting in chapter 2 but chapter 3 really just goes all out on it. I mean home sweet home has some DARK connotations if you look into it and it’s terrifying how people as young as 5! We’re experimented on. I mean the main villain of this chapter catnap. Is literally an 7 or 8 year old child. And you are told constantly To AVOID playcare at all cost’s now imagine how I and basically everyone felt when at the end of the cave segment you see a Sign welcoming you into playcare 😨. And then dogday. Holy fu##ing sh#t was that so dark and brutal. HE’S BEEN CHOPPED IN HALF AND TO MAKE THINGS WORSE HE DIES BY BASICALLY BEING EATEN FROM THE INSIDE OUT BY THE SMALLER CRITTERS?!?! NOT TO MENTION YOU CAN HEAR HIM CHOKING ON THEM IN THE CHASE?!?! That is GENIUELY  such a brutal and dark thing I’ve ever seen come out of a horror game. And wow did mob have some balls to do that when they KNOW they’ve got a massive child audience. Props to them.

The final boss is such a refreshing breath of fresh air with it not being a chase segment. The boss is GENIUELY thought out well. And catnaps and dogdays death actually made me a bit sad especially with dogday.

The characters designs are So Bloody good. Examples being literally any of the smiling critters. Miss joy and so on. They fit the theme and game so well

Now I could mention other things like the cardboard cutouts of the critters or the dark implications of what happened to the bigger body critters during the hour of joy but that would make this post go on for to long.

To end it off. The artist who made the animation for the start of chapter 3 of the smiling critters and just designing them in genreal and there art should be really proud of themselves. They started such a big fandom it’s unbelievable and I couldn’t be more grateful for what they did.

Chapter 3 was such a joy ride and such a surprise to me and loads of people. When I weren’t scared or sad I was grinning ear to ear with how good this chapter was. And I’m not the only one who thinks this. Search up on YouTube Twitter Reddit etc and you’ll see so many people praising this chapter with how good It was. Not saying it’s perfect it def has it flaws like me personally thinking the other critters were criminally underused. But it was such a big step up and made poppy playtime from a mid game to an exceptional game. I and so many others are happy this exists. This chapter was such a joy ride and I personally LOVED IT. Let’s hope that they make the future chapters as good if not better than this one (and hopefully bring back the smiling critters there such good characters)

And that’s why i think chapter 3 (and the smiling critters) SAVED poppy playtime

Sorry for spamming your notifs I was just wondering if you have any lineart/ coloring tips!

Im trying to improve my art and your style is perfect!!!

A joy you'd ask such an extensive question: I recorded a quick timelapse (Sorry I don't control the speed on Clip Studio)

I draw with vector layers for line art, meaning I can erase overlapping lines SUPER easy with a Vector eraser:

To make them not highlighted in orange btw (For CSP specifically) I believe you gotta go into "View" and "turn off vector paths".

I usually have a layer behind the characters that is "Grey" so I know where I've colored until I change it to black with protect Alpha.

In GENREAL advice I'd give: Do "Figure drawings" I think they're called. VERY QUICK rough sketches to get a figure/pose down. I draw like a speed demon because I don't focus on "Getting lines perfect" either. Paper is a less forgiving medium, when I was a kid (And even now) i sketch on paper with Pen. NO MISTAKES. WE DIE LIKE MEN. It makes you think a lot more about "How am I gonna do this right the first time" Basically: Your boy is quick, he likes to do it in 1 go and art style is pretty simple. Affective for making comics FAST. Which is what I care about since my stories/dialogue are kinda the highlight not the pictures, they just take my stuff to THE NEXT LEVEL. :)

Lately I've been trying to "Care less" about getting perfect clean line art (Tbh I think I've always cared a little less because SOME PEOPLE SPEND 8 HOURS ON A DRAWING AND HALF THE TIME THEY SPENT WAS ERASING SHIT. I COULD NOT. O.O)

The need for speed is because I need to make so many pages for all my comics in a timely manor.

Looking at AOT's butt ugly art and Chainsaw man's beautiful scratchy lines made me realize I was being way to uptight about my own shit looking "Perfect". So I've tried to be more fluid with it.

Speaking of: I recommend anyone who likes manga to try to mimic some art styles to learn stuff. "Why'd they do xy or z" "How'd they achieve x" ya know? Here's two of my avatars from my zelda videos (OOT is still in progress)

But it also depends on what you're TRYING to go for:

I don't WANT/NEED a consistent art style. I mostly just do whatever I feel fits whatever I'm working on. "On model" isn't in my vocabulary. X'D

I recommend studying anatomy because it REALLY amped up my abilities to draw the human body better. Full figure drawings, don't run away from things you might be bad at. X'D (Or work with what you do, I am shit at drawing hands, so they'll turn into weird monstrosities but nobody's said anything yet! XD)

People are seemingly willing to forgive a lot of mistakes: If it's funny. X'D I gotta try harder in serious scenes hahaha. Also having weird as fuck/abstract character design like my boys Ball and Bat

You're not gonna question anatomy choices for a thing that looks like THAT.

Simple character design is my passion~

For coloring: Outside of me understanding basic color theory I just do what makes my brain go BRRR so I can't really DESCRIBE why I like what I like? X'D

But here's some of my color palettes! I implore anyone to use them if they like them. They're not some trade secret, they're just colors.

Creepypastas are already NSFW. You're not suppose to be looking at gore and horror at work. ( or in public). You just want to remove the sexual shit which is fair, but I feel like that's more of a, YOU the blogger, deal. Just blacklist porn tags so you can scroll and just see gore in the creepy pasta tag. Every morally good artists knows to tag thier shit.

Okay fine you wanna be an ass about it and argue semantics (becaus i think it was pretty clear i was talking about sexual content specificall even with my wording) fine. I'll rephrase. A tag specifically for SEXUAL creepypasta content. Point still stand.

I'm not asking people to stop making the shit they wanna make. I honestly don't care. I personally ain't to bothered by it. But im literally just saying "hey instead of tagging your stuff with the genreal creepypasta tags you should tag it as this one thing that specifically says it's sexual content for creepypasta" like if anything it'd be EASIER for the people making it because instead of just tagging it as all these tags for creepypasta they can just tag it as the one maybe two tags depending on if people wanna specify if its visual art or headcanons/fanfic??? And what ever characters involved.

Like yeah I get that if you're an adult who doesnt wanna see specific content then it's a you problem but also like why is it an issue to just keep it out of the main tags? Like I said, the majority of fandoms have a tag for sexual content specifically for that fandom.

More importantly though...

Why is it an issue to keep your sexually explicit content out of the main tags to avoid MINORS seeing it.

Because at the end of the day this Fandom is FULL of Minors and yes while people can just blacklist porn tags would it not just be easier for EVERYONE to have a specific tag FOR creepypasta porn/smut? Like yall are literally arguing about this shit when it would make it so much easier and safer for everyone involved. I know if I was making creepypasta smut and porn I'd think it was WAY more convenient to tag it as just one tag than to tag it as "nsfw" "creepypasta" "creepypasta art" "crp" and ever character involved on said post. Like would it not just be easier to tag it as the one established tag and whatever character involved? Then people could just blacklist that one specific tag so they see everything BUT the Sexual content and people who WANT to see the sexual content can follow it. Like hello??? HOW IS THIS INCONVENIENT FOR ANYONE?

What is the ISSUE WITH THIS???

I am genuinely confused as to why this is something that there is disagreement on???

The only down side I can see is that "less people will notice my content if it's not in the general tag"

So you would rather risk exposing Minors that you KNOW the Fandom is FULL of ro your sexually explicit content so more people notice your porn and smut fanfic/headcannons?

First rant, madness combat?!! I think this'll be a mix of how much I love it plus what I know, I'll just start on characters and what I love Abt them <33 (focusing on the main 4)

FIRST!! Hank J. Wimbleton

The one, the only, I love him sm. I love his character and how he changes in the series, it started bc he didn't take his anger management classes but then turns out "WOA UH OH!! ENEMIES!!", atleast in the new ground series I haven't been able to watch project Nexus 2 to get that lore down. I love his character design for like, everything, the progress into what what him current Hank to the project Nexus outfit, also all the fan art making up outfits for him making him look so cool!! 10/10 would let him destroy me

Sanford

I love how everyone decided he has man boobs. All that's given is that he's shirtless and the fanartist went with it. His character is rlly cool too and from what Ive seen in project Nexus I love how his and Deimos's friendship is shown, just 2 buddies going through the apocalypse. I also love how in the madcom series when Deimos died he had a real reaction, like, it may not have been visible for the most part but when he starts shaking and everything it's just, *mwah*, 10/10, he's hot

Deimos

Im biased, I'm gonna be honest very biased, he's my favorite character out of the series, he's a silly little guy doing silly guy things. He doesn't flow with the world the world flows with him, like, what a cool guy, the dialogue in the game for him is v funny, his character in genreal is very funny, plus the way he's the light of the group humor wise is very nice. My favorite thing from him would definitely be when he compared Sanford to kielbasa. It was just so, him, and I love how the fandom turned the simple thumb lighter into a huge ablility, for all we know it could've just been his thumb that lit but nope! Combusty boye go bbrrrrr. Also I imagine sense him and doc were in AAWH, I like to imagine they already have some sort of relationship together. Maybe not a friendly one but they'd already be mutuals.

I don't actually know much about his character seeing as he was introduced in the first game, but reading the wiki and seeing what he IS in, he's a nice little guy. I love that the fandom collectively made him have a Mohawk, and that krinkles gave him one himself in the little poster thingy (I think it was poster, it's been a while). Like I said with Deimos I imagine they already have a mutual relationship, not friends, but they don't hate eachother, also with him being the new episode, I'm like "woa, lore!!" But I don't rlly understand all of it because I don't comprehend. He's very cool tho, I hope we see more Mohawk doc from krinkles, 10/10. Mohawk
