I guess I do have a really soft spot for families that believe in their kids so much that their love ultimately transcends time and even when separated by centuries… their bond is still there 😭😭😭

Wei Wuxian: The Untamed Hero
Wei Wuxian had to be killed even if:
1. He carried his sword
2. He didn't use gui dao
3. He didn't create Yin HuFu
4. The Wen remnants were not in the plot
Then, why? The reason is here, voiced by Jin Zixun of all people:
Wei WuXian, you are too bold! Did the LanlingJin Sect invite you today? And you dare run wild here. Do you really think that you’re invincible, that nobody has the courage to confront you? Do you want to overturn the Heavens?”
Wei WuXian smiled, “You’re comparing yourself to the Heavens? Excuse my language, but your face is a little too thick, isn’t it?”
So, you see, this untamed heart can only meet with tragedy as the world is unrighteous, as those who are in power think their actions cannot be contested (and they often aren't!), and that their words are like the law. How many times have we seen, a convicted powerful person escape the justice system? Far too many. And how many times innocents or victims were framed for crimes? Also too many. People like Wei Wuxian aren't condemned by fate, but rather, being born into a world where the "heavens" are those who are powerful and corrupted, he very well might be destined to live tragically, along with others of his type.
Returning to the matter of this particular scene: on one hand, the Jins throw private banquets, gilded with gold. The major scandals are: Jin Zixun is forcing the Lans to drink alcohol! You see, Lan Xichen can't outrightly refuse, so he is trying to be polite about his rejection. Jin Guangyao is trying to reason and excuse, and distract. The crowd spurs Jin Zixun on, wanting to see the Lans drink for once and fall to their level.
Everyone is in their own fine little world, doing their niceities in their golden halls drinking expensive wine, admiring pretty women, gasping at scandalous behavior, asking for favour, gossiping etc.
And then Wei Wuxian walks in. Uninvited. He simply drinks the wine himself, before demanding these people to spare him their time for real wordly issues, such as deaths, debts, cruelty, the parts that society wishes to hide. A few scenes later, we are shown with much description, just how terrible Qiongqi Path is. That's the Jin's backyard. You see their achievements that are drawn on those big walls? We see the reality of the people making them.
Now, let us come to another incident. Think of the soup incident. I fully expect before Wei Wuxian came into the scene, people were simply gossiping, uninterested in finding out what was going on, why Lady Jiang is crying. Then, Wei Wuxian comes and realizes Jiang Yanli who never really cries... was crying, and firstly decides to beat the shit out of Jin Zixuan. Secondly, he understands the whole truth, beats Jin Zixuan up for humiliating his Shijie, and also makes the other girl face responsibility.
Although his shijie had an easy temper, except for how they cuddled and cried together the day the three of them reunited after Lotus Pier was destroyed, she hadn’t really shed many tears in front of others, much less cry so loudly, so pitifully in front of so many people. Wei WuXian was filled with panic. As he tried to ask her, Jiang YanLi was crying so badly that she couldn’t even speak properly. Then, when he saw Jin ZiXuan standing on the side, astonished, he fumed with anger, wondering to himself why it was the dog of a person again. With a kick, he pounced on Jin ZiXuan. The fight between the two would have alerted the Heavens. All of the cultivators around the base came to break up their fight. Amid the ruckus, he finally understood what was the cause of all this, and became even more angered. He spread his tough talk, saying that one day he’d definitely make Jin ZiXuan die in his hands, he told people to drag out the cultivator woman.
A round of questions later, the truth emerged, and Jin ZiXuan’s entire body was frozen. No matter how much Wei WuXian continued to curse at him, he returned neither words nor fists, his face dark. If not that Jiang YanLi held up her hand a while later, while Jiang Cheng and Jin GuangShan came to pull Wei WuXian away, it was likely that even now Jin ZiXuan wouldn’t be able to attend the hunt of Phoenix Mountain.
See.
The point is, perhaps, people feel Wei Wuxian's actions are unnecessary. But imagine if he wasn't there! The consequences as I predict them will have been:
1. Jiang Cheng who doesn't want to upset a prominent clan would've grumbled and cursed underneath his breath, but eventually just moved away from the ruckus and taken his sister away.
2. Perhaps the truth would never have been found out, unless Jin Zixuan later searched by himself.
3. Thus, Jiang Yanli's reputation would be stained for the years to come.
It's because Wei Wuxian dared that the truth was revealed. I took this small incidents simply to highlight this, without the addition of more factors. In the book, often, it might seem like people are trying to stop him from creating trouble. You might often wish, ugh, this is going to be so bad... The point is Wei Wuxian knows! He's not stupid, he knows of the consequences of his actions.
But he isn't the one creating trouble. It was already created by the likes of those very people who try to stop him from investigating deeper. The trouble in question is that immoral and unrighteous words and actions and decisions have already been made. Society tries to hide them. If you can't see it, it's not there. Yet, even if it is not visible, a crime has its traces and it will bleed into their world sooner or later.
Wei Wuxian forces people to snap out of their comfort zones. He doesn't care for the barriers they set around themselves. Here are some examples to explain what I mean by these barriers:
Who dares hit Jin Zixuan, who's the only heir of LanlingJin, even when he deserves it? Protected by his status, his birth, his clan who dares? Wei Wuxian does.
Who dares to annoy Lan Wangji, the second jade of Lan, who from birth is considered otherwordly, strict, immovable, rigid, untouchable and protected by his extreme cold aura? Wei Wuxian dares.
Who dares to enter cultivation society without even wielding sword, without even cultivating a core? Wei Wuxian!
Since time unknown, treasures have belonged to the powerful sects: The Lan Clan and their library, their many secret techniques. The Jin clan and their treasures, their gold. The Nie Sabres. The Zidian. Yet, a son of a servant somehow ends up possessing the most powerful treasure all by his own! Everyone goes to this popular refinery, some famed blacksmith, or that popular sect to get specially created spiritual weapons, yet Chenqing, one of the most powerful weapons, was forged alone by Wei Wuxian during his 3 months in the Burial Mound!
Since years, the cultivation world has taken to heart rules of Lans, words of the powerful sects, and their leaders! Then, once again, this orphan child comes and bends the world and changes the cultivation society forever! Yiling Laozu said that... Yiling Laozu created... Yiling Laozu's manuscripts...
His words literally become the law.
Think of how 13 years after Wei Wuxian's death when "all was peaceful" despite us knowing very well, just how much shit happened after his death - slaughter of minor clans, deaths of two prominent sect leaders, xue yang etc (because, you know, most of it was purely accidental, kept hush-hush, or the victims were people who weren't important), he comes back to life and in a matter of a couple of months, upends the cultivation society again.
The "problem" is that this guy simply doesn't conform. The problem is that he is better. The problem is that he is not unnecessarily humble about it, despite his origins. He doesn't seem to treat himself as an outlier, but an equal. (That's why I hate insecure Wei Wuxian, like this guy is righteous enough he won't even treat himself badly.) The problem is that all those barriers - social classes, power, the locked doors - they won't keep him away.
Even if he was only the Jiang Da-shixiong with a bright golden core, he will still not be a conformist. To those who aren't used to having their decisions questioned, he is their worst enemy. To whose who are used to talking in circles, spreading rumors, he is asking them. What source do you have? What is the factual evidence behind what you are saying? Why are you saying this now?
Think of how he cross questioned a petty seller selling Yiling Laozu portraits in Qinghe, and how he questioned the gathered cultivation sects in Lotus Pier during Sisi and Bicao's intervention with the same sort of attitude. Surely, there was a major class difference, power difference between the two. Yet, they don't matter to him. What matters is the truth.
So, no matter what, when the people who are in power, start having too much dirty laundry and corpses in their backyards, he will definitely know. For this guy, knowing isn't enough - he will get to the crux of the issue. The problem is, he even has the skill for it. He has the ability. One also can't distract him with offers, promises, gifts, riches, status, women. He doesn't care for any of that. He perhaps might even hate one's victims. Yet he will stand up for them.
Of course, those who are in power, all smile at each other. They understand things sometimes have to be done. People sometimes have to be silenced. "We know better."
Then, Wei Wuxian comes in and says, actually you don't. He comes in with factual accounts, evidences, forces you to face your misdeeds. Says you're all a bunch of hypocritical people. No, perhaps what is worse is that he will make you realize that's what you are! Because he's got to be good at talking, too! He's not going to act on anger or be stunned in fear.
So, now you have someone who's not only digging into your evil deeds, someone who's capable, who's not easy to persuade, but also someone with high emotional intelligence who can play the same role as you do, of being a noble, accepted gentlemen with immaculate manners, of very high literacy and outdo you. Because this guy knows very well how society works, he can comprehend social cues perhaps better than you can. He can use your own polite words and nature against you.
It's precisely because of this he must be killed. Perhaps, in every world, Wei Wuxian will end up being the victim. It's only that in MDZS, these were the particular circumstances, and those were the particular excuses.
My personal take is: sometimes it is good to be a centrist, and hold everyone's better intentions in mind. most of the times it might not be, as there are many conflicting systems in place that allow for true victims who are stuck. most often, the victims are always the ones who DON'T have a voice, who are brushed over as numbers of corpses, rather than people with stories. most often, kindness is shown in little action that are trampled upon by those who hold true power. most often the people who are good, who are heroes die young, or are hated and ridiculed, for speaking up for the victims. it's not right, and never will be.
if someone like wei wuxian or his presence in the book makes you uncomfortable it might be because you hold the "niceities" and the pleasantries to be of more importance than the issues at hand. just because something is too troublesome doesn't mean it is wrong. if everytime he enters the scene you're scared of what he's going to do next, you should know it's not him who is the problem but the prople who aren't doing anything who are. don't be scared of "trouble-makers." he's not erratic or spontaneous. he has considered society's standards and deemed it useless. why is that that the koi tower scene, where he is in his "yiling laozu, loss of control, threatening" moment is followed immediately by him being extremely kind to Wen qing ? it's not that he's losing control. it's that Jin Zixun wouldn't have acted and told him where the people were without him using intimidation tactics. Wei Wuxian is the one forced into bad corners by the powerful people, where he has to show his edges. Don't end up twisted the narratives. if you bite someone for a while, expect to be hit.

Todays thoughts!
Wangxian meeting at the mall, single mom wwx shopping for some clothes with his little radish.
Wei Ying had gone to the mall cause he needed to buy a nice outfit for a date he did not want to go to, but of course his shijie was the one to set it up for him. Something about being time for him to put himself out there, find someone to take care of him as much as he takes care of his son. He, of course, insisted that he was fine fairing on his own. If anything, the reason why Wei Ying didn't want to date at all is more of finding someone that would put the same love and dedication to A-Yuan as he does.
And he knows, from experience, that's hard if not impossible to find.
So cut to a very stressed and distracted Wei Ying looking through clothes while his son played hide and seek in the racks of clothes. He'd been making sure to see A-Yuan popping his head out through the clothesline with a bright smile that matches his own, every so often calling out to him if he noticed he was taking too long to pop out. At least one of them was having fun. This was the third clothing store he visited, and the frustration of not finding anything remotely nice, or something that matched his style, was taking its toll. At the end, he sighs with exasperation. He'll just have to call his sister and tell her that he's sick, or something.
"A-Yuan, come out. We're leaving." There's no response, "A-Yuan, did you hear me?"
His brows dip with concern, it did get too quiet at some point. The giggling and the scraping of the hangers had come to a stop without him noticing. "Mister, if you're playing a joke on your poor A-Niang we won't get ice cream." He mumbles as he looks through the rack, moving the clothes around in mild panic. A-Yuan is nowhere to be found.
Wei Ying is practically panicking at this point, frantically searching for his son, practically yelling his name. He's on the verge of tears as he passes the rows and rows of racks and fixtures. All logic and reason are thrown out the window. There's no way.. there's no way he lost A-Yuan. He's always paid attention, always told him to stay by his side no matter what. What the hell is he going to do? The worst scenarios start crossing through his mind, but he keeps searching. A-Yuan knows to stay put if he ever gets separated from Wei Ying, he knows to not talk to strangers but he's only a toddler. Anything can happen.
“A-Yuan! Where are you?!” Wei Ying calls as he jogs through the store.
~~~~
Cut to A-Yuan staring wide eye at a tall guy with honey eyes. They're both having a staring contest at this point. That’s not his A-Nian, A-Yuan thinks to himself.
"Hello?" Lan Zhan says with caution. When did this child get here?
The child pursed his lips, slowly retreating into the rack with blue sweaters he was browsing through. "I-I’m not supposed to talk to strangers."
Lan Zhan blinks, staying quiet before nodding in approval. The toddler's parents are smart. He should probably alert security, he looks around in search of security or a staff member. As soon as he spots someone, he starts to walk away to try and get their attention but a small hand takes a tight grip on his light cream trousers.
"W-Wait! Mister— My a-niang told me to stay put if I ever get separated... A-niang will find me soon. Please, don't go."
Scared pleading eyes stare at him, the man seems to think through it for a moment. The smart thing to do would be to report the missing child. But at the same time, he's not sure how he would handle the situation if the toddler were to start crying.
"Alright.” He agrees with a nod. Though, the toddler doesn't let go of his trousers for a moment. At least he looks somewhat more calm. "We'll wait for your mother together."
Not a moment later, Wei Ying runs past them, yelling A-Yuan's name. At first, Lan Zhan looks at him with confusion. The child didn't say anything about his dad looking for him, so instinctively he shields and conceals the toddler. You can never be too safe, he knows people can put any sort of act just to take a child away. However, the toddler scrambled past Lan Zhan's legs and shouts, “A-Niang!"
Wei Ying skids to a stop, whipping his head towards the sound of his son's voice. Relief floods through his body as he falls to his knees and hugs his toddler, so glad that he's safe and sound. At first he doesn't notice the man who had stayed with his son because he's too busy peppering kisses to A-Yuan's chubby cheeks and mumbling "Don't ever scare me like that again!" And “We've talked about this, don't leave my side."
While this exchange is happening, Lan Zhan Is just thinking. The man... that drop dead gorgeous man was the toddler's mother?
A-Yuan clings to Wei Ying's neck, rubbing his face on his cheek, “A-Yuan is sorry, A-niang. Please don't be mad."
The puppy eyes win Wei Ying over and he can't be mad anymore. Silver eyes quickly scan his child, making sure there’s no injuries. He hugs his little radish once more, only then is when he notices the man watching the whole scene, and he can tell he's kinda not knowing what to do with himself.
"Um... can I help you?" Wei Ying asks a little defensive while hugging his son closer.
Before the man can utter an answer, A-Yuan beams with excitement. “That gege helped A-Yuan wait for A-niang!"
“Oh. Is that so?" He says, silver eyes softening and shoulders letting the tension leave.
"Mn. My name is Lan Zhan." He introduced himself and woah, how could Wei Ying not notice how handsome this man was.
“Thank you, Lan Zhan, for keeping an eye on my son. I really don't know how to repay you…”
"A-niang, is this the gege you're meeting later?" The toddler looked at Lan Zhan with hopeful eyes. "Gege taking my a-niang to dinner?"
Wei Ying quickly gets all embarrassed, cheeks flushed red like the ribbon holding his long hair in a ponytail. “Aiya, aiya! Stop bothering the nice gege! I'm sure he has many things to do."
"But!” A-Yuan begins to protest with a pout.
"No buts." Wei Ying picks A-Yuan in his arms, letting some of his weight rest on his hip. Silver eyes meet honey ones. “Thank you, again. I-I gotta get going."
And Lan Zhan can only watch the pair walking away, saying something about "I told you to call me a-niang at home and baba out here." And "I'm never leaving you out of my sight again. You gave me a heart attack.”
He’s sure he hears the child, A-Yuan, mumble “But I like that gege…”
Lan Zhan turns around, shaking his head before continuing his shopping. His chest aches a bit cause he just met the most beautiful man he has ever laid eyes on... It's childish, but he can't help but quietly sulk because he was in fact thinking of asking him out but... it looks like someone had beaten him to it. Wait, he didn't even get his name. He sulks even more.
~~~~~
Back in Wei Ying's home, he was getting ready for his date. It shouldn't be too late to cancel, right?
“You look dashing!” His sister compliments with a soft clap. “Come now, don’t make that face.”
“Jie, I don’t know this man… What if he doesn’t like A-Yuan? What if he’s secretly an asshole?” Anxiety was clear in his voice, though it was quickly soothed when Jiang Yanli walked over and fixed the collar of his burgundy button up.
“You doubt your A-Jie will pick a good man for you?” She teases with a thin eyebrow raising in question.
“Not you… I don’t trust A-Sang.” He side-eyes his friend, who is sitting on the couch making faces to his baby nephew. “Are you sure it’s not too late to cancel?”
“A-Ying, you need this. I promise it’ll be good for you.” His sister reassures, gently patting his shoulders. She smiles softly at her younger brother. “I want you to be happy.”
“I am happy.” He reassures her
She chuckles, patting the top of his hand. “You know what I mean. YingYing, are you sure you don’t want me to watch over A-Yuan?”
“Nuh-huh, if I’m meeting this guy then he’s meeting a-yuan too. If he doesn’t love him then I won’t even give him a chance!”
“A-Ying.”
“I’ve made up my mind, Jie. Now, tell me A-Yuan doesn’t look like the most adorable gentleman you’ve ever seen.” Wei Ying coos as his son walks into the living room wearing a t-shirt with the print of a tuxedo. He picks him up and peppers his cheeks with many kisses.
Soon, they’re both arriving at the restaurant. At least the guy he’s meeting has good taste. Before they step in, Wei Ying sets down his son, going through the motions of fixing his clothes. “If you don’t like the guy, we’ll leave as soon as you want, okay? No one can pull my attention from my little radish.”
A-Yuan nods, and with that they both walked into the bustling restaurant. Wei Ying couldn’t help but to feel irritated at bit his sister and best friend. What the hell did Nei Huaisang mean that I’ll know when I see him? Would’ve been better if he just showed me a picture. He thinks to himself while rolling his eyes. Though, he couldn’t deny he was extremely nervous to meet this mystery guy that he had been set up with.
“A-Niang, look! It’s the nice gege from earlier!”
Wei Ying is quick to follow his son’s line of sight, and there he was. Lan Zhan sat at a tsks closer to the window, dressed up in a light blue suit with a light cream shirt. He knew Lan Zhan was handsome, but to see him in a suit? How the sleeves seemed hug his arms just tight enough to let you know the man works out. Before he knew it, Wei Ying was being tugged towards Lan Zhan’s table. “Hey, hey! Baobei let’s not bother the nice gege, he’s probably waiting for someone.” He tried to whisper, tugging his son the other way but they were already spotted.
“Gege! Hi gege!” A-Yuan chimes as Lan Zhan stands from his chair. Was he always this tall?
“Hi, Lan Zhan. What a coincidence! A-Are you here by yourself, or…”
He can see golden eyes scanning him up and down before landing back on his face. He can’t help but shift in place at the intensity of Lan Zhan’s gaze. “I am waiting for someone.” Lan Zhan responds quietly, gaze still on Wei Ying.
“Oh… Me too!” He’s quick to add before chuckling, “Well, you already knew that… A-Are you waiting for a date?”
Lan Zhan seems to consider his answer, and Wei Ying can’t help but to find it amusing at how deflated and defeated the other looks when he responds with a quiet “Yes.”
Wei Ying laughs once more, “Not really looking forward to it? I get it, my sister and best friend set me up for mine. I don’t even know who I’m supposed to meet! Can you believe they refused to give me his name? Or even show me a picture? They really took the definition of ‘blind date’ way too serious.”
Lan Zhan stares at him wide eye, and for a moment Wei Ying thinks he said something wrong. “No offense to whoever you’re meeting, of course! I bet they’re—“
“Wei Ying?” Lan Zhan takes a step closer towards him, but he doesn’t see himself taking a step back.
Brows furrow, “Yeah? Do… Do I have something on my face?”
“I’m meeting with Wei Ying… You are Wei Ying.”
The father can only look at the other in bewilderment, was… was Lan Zhan his blind date? No, this was to good to be true. A guy like Lan Zhan… he could have anyone, the man looked like a god! “Who set you up?” He decided to ask, if he’s says ut was Nei Huaisang then he really was having a date with Lan Zhan. There were no other Wei Ying’s around, not that he knows of.
Wei Ying can tell Lan Zhan is having the same train of thought. “My brother… He was convinced by a family friend that I should… attempt to meet new people.”
“Was it Nie Huaisang? Oh my god! That asshole set everything up!” Wei Ying exclaims once Lan Zhan confirms his suspicions, hands brushing the already messy bangs from his face, a loud laugh echoing through the restaurant. He winced, tho, when people enjoying their food shoot a glare at him. “I can’t believe this…Wait, if you knew my name, why didn’t you say anything earlier.”
Lan Zhan pressed his lips together before answering. “You did not give me your name.”
“Oh— I… Huh, I was really distracted. It would’ve made things easier for the both of us, huh?” Wei Ying smiles at him. “Well… mind if we join you, then? My treat, since you were my hero earlier and I must repay your kindness and patience!”
“Are we having dinner with the nice gege??” A-Yuan suddenly chimes, wide eyes darting between the two adults. Wei Ying smiles as he ruffles his hair.
“We sure are!”
“I knew it! The Nice gege is taking my a-niang for dinner!” The toddler soon clings to Lan Zhan’s leg, which caught him off guard.
“Aiya, A-Yuan! Where are your manners?” Wei Ying chides playfully, attempting to pull his son back to his side.
“I do not mind.” Lan Zhan responds with a smile ghosting over his lips.
The three of them sit at the table. Wei Ying talks away about anything and everything, and Lan Zhan pays full attention to every single word, attention unflinching. It especially melts his heart when Lan Zhan gives the same type of attention to A-Yuan, listening with much seriousness to all the stories he has to tell. He looks at both of them with so much fondness that he feels his heart bursting at the seams. Yeah… it was good he decided to not cancel the date.

omegaxian and alphaji who hate fuck throughout the war. somewhere along the way, omegaxian falls in love, to a man who so clearly loathes him. somewhere along the way, he grows softer, scent milk heavy and sweeter. somewhere along the way, he grows heavy with a child, their child, in a body that was meant to have grown incapable of childbearing. attempt the impossible.
wei ying doesnt tell lan zhan, because then he will take responsibility, as righteous as he is, and wei ying will not tie down the man he loves to someone he does not, nor let himself be tied down in a loveless marriage. because he does not want his child to grow up in a place as cold and strict as gusu, where they will be hated for their conception, where they will grow up without two parents who love each other as much as they love them.
because he still dreams of a laughing omega woman and a quiet beta man, a donkey and a smiling child.
he stops seeing lan wangji. wei wuxian still saves the wen refugees. he is still excommunicated from the cultivation world. lan wangji still stands up for him, even though he doesnt know. wei wuxian gives birth to an girl, who catches the heart of his little radish and the wens.
who catches the heart of lan zhan, wei ying knows, as he watches lan zhan hold his little potato so carefully, across the table, while making sure a-yuan is comfortable in his lap. wei ying who aches to tell him just who a-xing is, but knowing it is not the right time. that it never will be the right time.
wei wuxian still dies from his own corpses. this time, he leaves a note tucked into a yuans robes, and kisses his baobaos, one last time, leaving them crying in the arms of wen popo and si shu.
when he wakes up, 13 years later, the lans who come include an alpha, with his old bodys fox sly smile, broad shoulders that come down to a dramatically thin waist. golden eyes. 'gege,' she calls the calm omega, with the nice smile and lan zhans nose. with wen qings and wen nings big eyes.
who calls hanguang jun 'fuqin!' right along with her gege.
who makes the same expression wei wuxian knows he made when jin zixuan would talk to shijie, when wei wuxian falls into lan zhans stiff arms.
who looks away, along with wei wuxians little radish and the rest of the juniors, as lan zhans arms come firmly around him, as he says, through tears, 'lan zhan you saved our little potato and radish'
nonsense only lan zhan, now, could understand.
and when lan zhan says 'wei ying,' wei wuxian knows lan zhan loves him.

Shen Yuan shixiong AU - Part 21 Letter to Ning Yingying - Night Hunting [Luo Binghe's letter]
“Dear Ning Shijie,
Thank you for your last letter, it was great to hear from you and our other martial siblings.
As you know, we took a night hunting job in the last village shixiong and I passed. According to the villagers there, the next town had trouble getting rid of an evil spirit so we immediately swapped horses and made haste after sending our last report. A few hundred li from there, we found the town. It was big, on the edge of a cliff and had very tall walls encircling it. But when we entered it, it was completely empty. It was as if everyone had just… vanished. Shixiong used his dusu snake to make sure that truly nobody lived in the town, then took us to camp on the edge of the forest outside the remparts.
As soon as he finally got the fire going, shixiong suddenly doused it. I couldn’t sense anything, but shixiong seemed to be on high alert and even sent his spiritual snake to scout the area. Together, we silently pushed the horses inside the town and came back to the campsite. You should’ve seen it, shijie. In the darkness of the night, amongst the trees, you could see small lights lazily moving right and left. It was almost magical… but odd. Eerie even. I’m ashamed of saying this, but I didn’t understand what was wrong until shixiong said “Don’t move, Binghe. Those are hungry corpses.” Those weren’t lights, they were eyes. There were so many of them. And they were attracted to our qi. But shixiong had previously taught me that those kind of low level ghosts were basically blind and used their sense of hearing and smell to navigate. It was easy to outsmart them, to trick them then leave. But shixiong didn’t seem to want to flee. After observing them, he took out his sword and declared that we had arrived too late. I finally understood. The hungry corpses that were slowly encircling us were the townspeople. They were all dead, reduced to violent husks that attacked travelers at night to feed.
We fought all night. (I was covered with filth and dust, but shixiong… shixiong was still impeccable. He looked like an ethereal being. I will never forget the sight.) When it finally stopped, we had eliminated around a thousand corpses. Men, women, elderly, children… it was a grim scene. We put them to rest with a few talismans that shixiong had brought and went back to the city to find the horses and a place to bathe and rest. But shixiong was acting weird. At that time, I couldn’t put my finger on it, but something was off. He brushed off my concern numerous times and when we finally found an inn, he disappeared into a room, telling me to go fetch hot water for him. I didn’t want to force him so I gave up and did what I was asked. I filled the bathtub and let him wash. After quite some time, I heard a splash and a cry of pain. I had no choice: I opened the door and entered. Shixiong was sitting on the floor with barely anything to cover himself after a bath, holding his ankle. Seeing me enter, he tried to hide one of his legs, but I had already seen what he didn’t want me to see. He had a bruised ankle. I’m telling you shijie, shixiong will never change. I carried him back to the bedroom, sat him on the bed, applied medicine and bandaged the wound. And I made him promise to tell me when he is hurt next time. I’m not sure if he was still angry that I had entered without permission when he was bathing and carried him in my arms instead of letting him walk or if he had a slight fever, but his complexion went red and he stopped talking. I was afraid I would make him more angry and I went downstairs to make some food. Fortunately, there were still a lot of ingredients that could be used and I was able to prepare something decent enough to consume.
When I entered the room… Oh shijie. I didn’t know how to react. He was sitting at the table, playing around with a go piece he got from who knows where, and he was humming a song. Something that sounded so pretty, but also… foreign? It was such a beautiful scene. He stopped when he noticed me and he smiled. Glad he didn’t seem angry anymore, I sat with him, serving the dishes and he suddenly thanked me. He said, “Shidi didn’t have to help shixiong, but he did. Thank you.” I felt like I was sitting on hot charcoal. I had a hard time staying seated.
We ate and played a game of go, then went to sleep. But… I can’t sleep. That is why I’m taking this opportunity to write shijie this letter. This shidi thanks shijie for always listening to him and his many adventures and worries. I hope shijie will send this one just as many stories to share with shixiong. He always delights hearing from you.
Traveling outside the sect has been an exciting experience so far, and I am very lucky to have Shen shixiong with me. This shidi advises shijie to train as much as she can if she wants to travel outside the sect soon to help people in need. This one… discovered that it isn’t as easy to do so as we imagined. “One is never overly prepared.” Right?
Your shidi,
Luo Binghe”

Event planning
Inspired by me watching too many wedding shows
"I really don't know what to do for my bachelorette party!" Yanli sighed, shutting her laptop a bit too forcefully. "Every idea I've seen is just so... weird!"
"What, not into the strip club thing?" Wei Ying laughed as he emerged with an armful of snacks after rummaging through her pantry. "The peacock would freak out if you did that, it would be so funny! I can already imagine him screaming, crying, throwing up about it!"
Yanli sighed and sent him a stern look. "A-Xian."
"Going to a strip club for a bachelor or bachelorette party is just downright disrespectful in my opinion." Wen Qing chimed in, handing Yanli a glass of champagne. "How can you claim you're excited about getting married if you act like a horn dog around strangers the night before?"
Wei Wuxian helped himself with a glass of his own. "Yeah, true. I don't know how I would've reacted if Lan Zhan wanted that for his bachelor party when we married."
Wen Qing flicked his forehead. "As if Lan Wangji would be in any way interested in anyone that isn't you!"
"I did prank him that I wanted to go to a strip club for my own bachelor's." A suggestive smile. "That went just about as well as you can imagine."
An eye roll. "Yeah, we know, he fucked the idea right out of you."
"As he always does ♡"
"This still doesn't fix my problem, though!" Yanli whined, sinking into the plush sofa of her living room. "It was so easy for A-Xuan, he knew right away he wanted to go to the family chalet with his friends to go hunting and whatnot..."
"Who says we can't do the same? You don't even need guns, have Wen Qing glare at a deer and you'll get stew in no time."
Wen Qing gave him one of her best glares, inadvertedly proving his point. "I will pour this champagne glass on your head, Wei Wuxian, don't test me."
"Shijie will be upset if you do that and we're here to help her, right?"
Wen Qing gulped her entire champagne glass, then her face lit up with an idea. "Why don't we go on a little trip ourselves then?"
Yanli shook her head. "It would be so expensive booking something last minute..."
"You are marrying into so much money, Shijie, the peacock has been basically begging you to spend it. Pick something nice like the Maldives or Bora Bora and let's go!"
"The bachelorette party is for bachelorettes, Wei Wuxian." Wen Qing flicked his forehead again. "You have a husband. And a son. And like 100 rabbits. You are also a man. You don't qualify."
"Maybe so, but shijie loves me so very much, she wouldn't leave me behind, would she?"
Yanli patted his head with sympathy. "As much as I may love you, A-Xian, it is a ladies only event..."
"I can pretend to be a lady! Lan Zhan says I look good in dresses!"
Yanli giggled. "I'm sure you do, A-Xian."
"Can't I just... pilot the plane or something?" A playful nose scrunch. "You won't fly public, right?"
"Look at him, scrunching his face like that!" Wen Qing laughed. "What, you're too rich for Spirit Airlines now?"
"I'm not, Lan Zhan is. I'm just taking after him! Anyway, where are we going, shijie?"
Yanli sighed, fondly. "Let's see what we can find."

yiling fertility thoughts [test tube baby A Yuan cultivated via resentful energy by WWX]
further to my evil author day fic post available at the end of this post, I am HAVING THOUGHTS about how to write more in the verse. So, let us get into it:
THINKING ABOUT WWX WHO WANTED HER OWN FAMILY SO MUCH SHE CULTIVATED A CHILD ALL BY HERSELF ONLY NOBODY BELIEVED HER AND THOUGHT SHE'D GONE AND GOTTEN HERSELF KNOCKED UP SO THEY DISOWNED HER AND LWJ DIDN'T HEAR ABOUT IT UNTIL SHE WAS GONE FAST FORWARD 4 YEARS AND WWX IS AT THE FOREFRONT OF FERTILITY RESEARCH AND CORUNS A CLINIC WITH WEN QING
I'm thinking about wwx who uses resentful energy in her fertility work, and lwj who uses like purity rituals and stuff in her fertility work, and thinking about them meeting at a medical conference where they're both lecturing
thinking about lil baby a yuan in the conference daycare, and lwj falling Fast cause there is Literally No Other Way for lwj to fall thinking about them
thinking about lwj seeing a yuan and immediately forgetting her uncles teachings about 'those born from resentful energy are poisoned and wrong' and going 'how can anyone as cute as this be poisoned and wrong'
I'm thinking about yanli and her hubby ended up with Yiling Fertility. I'm thinking that they were having lots of trouble conceiving because despite how Prevalent his father was, jin zixuan is practically completely infertile. thinking about them going to lwj and it not working even after they've gone through 3 rounds of 'pure 'Purely cultivated' ivf, and then yanli sitting up one night crying about never being able to have a child because 'a xuan i'm getting older'
thinking about zixuan going Right. thinking about him down wwx because he'd heard something through a grapevine, and booking an appointment with just him first and being all 'i know a li's family have been awful to you - your family - but professionally, do you think you could treat her? us? we really want a child, and we've been to the lan clinic for three rounds
so wwx is like 👀 👀 👀 'how is shijie? or, well, Jiang Yanli? or does she— is it Jin now? How, how is your wife?" and jzx is just, not horrified, he'd known how badly the jiangs had imploded but he hadn't known you know? And he's like 'call her Yanli, at least for now. And yes, it's Jin privately but she keeps Jiang professionally' (idk if they do that in china?! but for now at least they do) and wwx is nodding and nodding and then wen ning opens the door "can i get you tea? coffee? boss?" and wwx is like "coffee please, a ning. Jin Zixuan, I'll be five minutes, you can tell A ning what you'd like to drink." and darts from the room, running into the loos and having a controlled 3 min breakdown, washing her face, reaplying her makeup and returning to her office, controlled, in charge, The Boss ™️
thinking about how they make plans to bring Yanli in for a check up, scheduling things and wwx opens a file for them, taking notes etc. [the fic part that ive published]
thinking about JZX saying 'if you need our notes from the Lans—" and WWX is like Absolutely not we do things my way, but secretly like ooo lan zhan cause WHEN IS SHE NOT.
thinking about wwx choosing not to contact the Lan clinic because she knows she'll only get condemnation there and they likely will not pass on their records, and although she's always liked lan zhan, if wen qing taught her anything it was self preservation
anyway thinking thoughts about maybe a lz pov for another chapter...
if that intrigued you at all please check this out 👇

Wei Wuxian sighed dreamily to himself as he finished his letter to Lan Zhan, his feet kicking happily against the floor. He felt giddy, so many happy emotions inside his little heart. After rolling on the floor for a while and still with blushing cheeks, he finally sealed the letter ready to send.
On his way out, he found his shijie with a serene smile and a letter on her own hands.
"To the peacock, shijie?" Wei Wuxian asked, grinning.
"A-Xian...." Jiang Yanli shook her head slightly "Yes, it's for Jin-gongzi. Are you sending that for your Lan Zhan?"
Wei Wuxian almost let out a happy giggle, but held on, looking coy "Yeah."
"Jiang-guniang! Jiang-guniang! Yu-furen is asking for you!" a disciple yelled from a distance, waving high to get attention.
"Oh. Thank you!" she waved back "Oh, no. A-Xian, could you send this for me? I don't want to make mother wait."
"Sure, shijie! Count on me!"
Jiang Yanli chuckled and patted his shoulder before walking away.
A day later, Jin Zixuan was excited to open the letter although he pretended otherwise. He walked quickly to his room to have privacy and sat excitedly by his table.
He opened the letter.
"WHAT THE FUCK?!"
Jin Zixuan let the letter fall from his hands, too shocked to do anything. Because inside wasn't Jiang-guniang pretty handwriting or flowery words. No. That was Wei Wuxian's barely readable scrawl saying...... Ugh he doesn't even want to remember what he read. What did he mean by love? Is he... Is Wei Wuxian a cutsleeve?! Was Lan Wangji?!
And not happy enough, behind the letter was another, smaller piece of paper with a drawing of two man (please let him pretend ignorance here, for his own sake) kissing!
He wants to cry. Maybe throw himself staircase down. Why is this happening to him?!
And in the silence of Cloud Recesses, Lan Wangji is softly laughing as he realizes that the letter in his hands is Jiang-guniang's for Jin-gongzi and not his Wei Ying's. It's definitely his lover's doing, Lan Wangji knows him enough to be certain.
Ah, how much he loves his Wei Ying.
He sealed the letter back and wrote a quick and small note about it, before going out to send it to Lanling, in hopes Jin-gongzi would send his letter to Gusu.

Xiantober Day 8 - Head Disciple!Xian
Yunmeng Jiang celebrates the promotion of their newest head disciple with festivities and merriment that last well into the night. It's a right of passage a chance for the new head disciple to shine.
Madame Yu canceled Wei Wuxian's ceremony.
She made a fair point, Wei Wuxian thinks. It was a difficult growing season and the harvest wasn't as good as last year's so it wouldn't do for them to celebrate while the villagers were suffering.
And yeah, the request for aid was also really important. It's just a shame that Uncle Jiang and Jiang Cheng both had to go for it, today of all days. Wei Wuxian had asked if he could have gone too, Jiang Cheng behind him nodding furiously as well. It would have been a great way to start his new role.
But Madam Yu said no.
Then, she took shijie off with her to visit their family. It wouldn't make sense for Wei Wuxian to go with them, he's not really their family. Shijie made him soup before she left, which will be perfect!
Wei Wuxian is okay with not having a ceremony. He sits on his favorite dock overlooking the lake, where the lotus blooms are especially big and he can see out behind the sea for miles, over to the vast landscape that awaits on the other side.
Years ago, when he first came to Yunmeng with Uncle Jiang, he couldn't even swim in the water for very long. It was the former head disciple who helped him then, teaching him to breathe between strokes so he's not holding his breath forever. They were also really kind, and never said anything about him being behind all the other kids. They gave him some extra practice after everyone left, and then some when Wei Wuxian had started to surpass the others.
He's gonna miss them now that they've moved off to marry into a new clan, but Wei Wuxian thinks he can keep their memory alive.
He didnt actually care much for the head disciple role. It was just a role and well as long as he gets to go on night hunts and save good people what does it matter what title he wears?
Still, when Uncle Jiang sat him down and told him he'd got the role, Wei Wuxian accepted it with gravity for what it would mean.
He liked helping with the younger trainees. At Yunmeng, everyone trains together, from the moment you can hold a sword properly you can join the older disciples.
Wei Wuxian had loads of experience helping the younger kids out, and it's a lot of fun!
They're a sneaky bunch and gangly and 3-shimei really needs to stop waving her sword around like it's still made of wood for crying out loud.
But they're also earnest and hardworking and adorable, and they look at Wei Wuxian like he could never do wrong, and well, he wants to prove them right.
So it doesn't matter if he doesn't get a fancy ceremony. He doesn't need it. All he needs is to help the other disciples and make Jiang Sect the best there is and ever was. Attempt the impossible, and succeed.
"Da-shixiong?"
A timid voice calls out from behind Wei Wuxian and he peers around to see a group of disciples, some around his age and some a little younger, loitering near the pavillion.
"Aiya, what are you guys doing here? Didn't Jiang-shuhu give you drills to run through?"
Technically, Wei Wuxian was supposed to help them with these drills, but okay maybe he needs a break sometimes and maaaaaybe he wanted to wallow just a little bit.
This disciples shuffle together, nudging at each other to say something. They're so funny Wei Wuxian has to bite his lips to keep from laughing at them.
Finally 6-shidi, the youngest and probably Wei Wuxian's favorite, comes over to Wei Wuxian's side. "Da-shixiong! We wanted to show you something!" he yells directly into his face, spittle flying everywhere. It's a good thing he's so cute.
Wei Wuxian raises a brow. "Okay…"
He follows the nervous group back from where they came, really hoping they haven't broken something. First day on the job and already there's something for Madame Yu to yell at him about.
Ah well, better him than the kids.
Before they turn the corner into the main training grounds, 6-shidi does an abrupt about face and stares determinedly up at Wei Wuxian, since he's still a good couple heads shorter than him.
"Da-shixiong, close your eyes!"
Wei Wuxian does so, and the little hands pull him forward. Someone covers his eyes so he can't perk but he can hear them moving around and whispering. At some point there's the sound of something dropping, a plate? Then the sound of furious whispering and Wei Wuxian has to laugh now.
Finally, the hand moves away from his eyes and he opens them, blinking as he adjusts to the bright afternoon sunlight illuminating the courtyard. When he can see, he looks around at the tables on the floor piled high with sweets from the market and freshly cooked dishes, even an extra large tureen of shijie's soup.
There's a space set up for games on the other side of the yard, simple ones like kite shooting and an archery set up with funny faces drawn on the target. A table near the center that must be the place of honor is covered with jars of liquor, and beside the table is… Jiang Cheng?
Wei Wuxian gapes at him. Jiang Cheng scowls at something unseen in a corner, arms crossed protectively over his chest. "I snuck away. Dad knows. Don't make a big deal out of it."
How can he not??? Wei Wuxian practically leaps across the courtyard to smother Jiang Cheng in a hug.
And even though Jiang Cheng complains, Wei Wuxian notices he doesn't try to shove him off.
6-shidi tugs on his sleeve to get his attention and says, "What do you think, Da-shixiong? We put this all together for you! I helped draw the faces!"
A chorus of voices sounds out around him as all his little shidi and shimei clamber over to tell him how they contributed. Wei Wuxian beams at them all, laughing and laughing and not sure if he's ever going to stop. He sniffles a little bit.
Like he said, he doesn't need ceremony when he has a sect like this one.

#does anyone else ever think about how until lwj the only person who ever hugged wwx was his shijie ⋯ cause i do ⋯ and it makes me scream and cry forever ⋯ goddddd ⋯ did jc hug him i cant remember but i cant imagine it was done the same ❋
Tumblr media
I think sometimes he could cuddle with a lot of his friends. I think that in a previous life, he and NHS hugged. Do you remember how easily WWX throws his hands on people's shoulders? And yes, I think they hugged with JC (2nd gif). Hardly with the same warmth as with their sister, but I think there were hugs in Xianxian's life. BUT IN THE LIFE OF LAN ZHAN!!! you understand :`/

eh, start of an Au where they live in the Burial Mounds for a couple years.
They’ve been practicing it since Qing-jie and Ning-gege left their home. His aunt had put a-Mei and a-Xiang into his arms and told him he must tell everyone they are his sisters. Your father is dead, a-Yuan, Aunty tells him. Your mother died in childbirth. You must tell this everyone who asks.
Wen Yuan doesn’t know how it all went wrong. Xian-gege was supposed to see the baby and Aunty used to talk about leaving the mountain soon, going to lands where all kinds of vegetables and roots grew easily.
But that’s not happening anymore.
They can’t stay in Yiling, Aunty told him that as well. In Yiling, they recognize a-Yuan and a-Mei because they went into the city with Xian-gege. Wen Yuan thinks about leaving a-Xiang, but who will want a baby?
Nobody, so a-Xiang stays strapped to his chest and a-Mei holds his hand.
The streets are loud with self-satisfied people talking about the righteous slaughter of a monster. Wen Yuan knows it cannot be about Xian-gege, who smiled and laughed and played with him until he left to see a boy who’d never be a-Yuan’s cousin now.
“Gege,” a-Mei says. “Gege, I’m hungry.”
“We’ll get food soon,” a-Yuan promises, but a-Mei is only three and she doesn’t understand.
A-Mei only starts to cry and a-Xiang follows her example swiftly and a-Yuan wants to cry himself, wants to go back to the Burial Mounds, hoping to return to how it was months ago. It’s not a possibility, so he holds his sister’s hand tighter and marches them down the road. They can’t go to any of the places Aunty or Xian-gege told them to go before.
Jiang Cheng will complain but he won’t turn you away, Shijie will take good care of you, Lan Zhan, ah, your Rich-gege, he will—
They have to go somewhere.
There has to be someone who wants them.
Wiping his sisters’ tears away, Wen Yuan sets his eyes on the nearest mountain. Immortals never cared for sect politics before and if this isn’t the right mountain, then they’ll simply go to the next one and the one after until they’re safe.

Jiang Gunian Made A Change Part 8
“You’ve changed, Jie.” Jiang Cheng threw the statement out like he was throwing a rock into a river.
“How so?” His sister looked into the small brass mirror, seeing no changes in her appearance.
“You’re...” The heir struggled to find the words he was looking for. “Different. Than you were back home.“
“More decisive, ShiJie,” Wei WuXian agreed. “You talk back to that peacock instead of letting him push you around. It’s nice to see him getting treated as if he was just another person instead of the ‘heir to LanlingJin’.” He puffed out his chest and made a face to imitate Jin ZiXuan.
“A’Xian,” she scolded. “Be nice. How is Lan Er Gongzi doing?”
“Both jades look completely normal. It’s weird. I wonder if they cry when they’re alone.”
“You should keep him company,” she ordered. “Maybe spar with him. Help him get some of the hurt and anger he must be feeling out.”
Wei WuXian pretended to be shocked. “My beloved ShiJie wants my other best friend to beat me up?” He scooted towards the door to avoid Jiang Cheng’s foot. “I’m going, I’m going. No need to kick me out.”
Once only the siblings remained, Jiang YanLi relaxed a bit. “You’re the heir to Lotus Pier. You should learn to play nicely with the other heirs.”
“I will,” Jiang Cheng crossed his arms over his chest. “Except for Jin Gongzi.” At her sad look, he rushed to defend himself. “You didn’t hear what he said about you, Jie. Nasty things no husband should ever say about his wife. Especially you! You’re the prettiest girl in the world and so nice, and what he said? He’s lucky Wei WuXian punched him first. I was going to pummel him half to death.”
“You need to apologize to A’Xian for that,” she reminded her sibling.
“Apologize? For what? Fighting for your honor? I should award him!”
“Apologize for failing to keep your temper. Because of you, he was sent home from Cloud Recesses, and did not finish his studies there. Because of you, Mother beat him with Zidian.”
“How am I to blame for any of that? I didn’t make him fight. He did that on his own. Even if I’d been home, I couldn’t have stopped Mother. No one can. Not when she’s in one of her moods.”
Jiang YanLi firmed her spine and her voice. “The YunmengJiang heir was about to get into a fight with the LanlingJin heir. The very least that would have come from that is the dissolution of the betrothal agreement. Any treaties we have with the Jin? Any trade agreements? They could all have been wiped out because you wouldn’t control your temper upon hearing your sister insulted. You could have set back relations with the Jin for decades! And you think you don’t owe A’Xian an apology for anything? A junior disciple, no matter his title, is at the end of the day merely a junior disciple. A beating or exile from the sect would be an appropriate punishment for a junior assaulting an heir. Which is exactly what he got.”
“But....” The younger brother curled his hands into fists. “Are we supposed to just allow that peacock to insult you and not have any consequences?”
“The worst that insults would have caused is for Father to request the betrothal be dissolved. So.... Not only do I no longer have a husband in my future, our brother was punished at Cloud Recesses, kicked out of their lectures, and whipped by Zidian. Are you sure fighting was the better option?” She struggled to control her emotions. “You need to learn to think of all the repercussions of your actions, Didi. Not just the ones staring you in the face.”
Her brother looked down, suddenly ashamed, perhaps. “I’m sorry, Jie. I didn’t think. I... I just wanted him to pay for his insults.”
“You caused the wrong person to pay for those insults, A’Cheng,” she stated as gently as possible. “You need to apologize.”
“Yes, Jie.”

A/N I really need a title to this little fiction. Any ideas?

Headcanons/Thoughts about a Fem!WWX/ Yiling Matriarch AU
If Wei Ying is a woman, then so is Jiang Cheng. I don't make the rules.
That means someone else has to be the heir, so obviously Jiang Yanli is a man in this universe. The dynamic doesn't change much (shige is just as caring and just as good at making soup and parenting his menaces as shijie was, a'Ying is just as chaotic and a free spirit as a'Xian and a'Cheng is still angry and jealous and prickly) but it does a tiny bit, because a male Jiang Yanli has a lot more responsibility on his shoulders and a female Jiang Cheng as a bit less of it, because she isn't the heir (but she's still her mother's daughter, so...only a bit.) Jiang Yanli has eldest daughter syndrome in any universe.
Madam Yu is a tiny bit less hostile than in canon, because yeah, she still thinks that girl is her husband's bastard, but even if she was recognized Wei Ying couldn't be a threat to the position of Madam Yu's son. So she's still pissed, but a tiny bit less.
Jin Zixuan is a woman and has three younger sisters. Why? Because a male heir was needed and her parents had to keep trying. Unfortunatly Jin Guangshan seems incapeable of having legitimate sons. (Meng Yao is still male. And Qin Su is male too, for hilarity's sake. - all of Jin Guangshan's bastards are sons and two of them are older than his eldest legitimate daughter.) That makes Jin Zixun the heir to Lanling Jin.
Nie Mingjue is a woman. She runs the Nie Clan with an iron fist, officially as her brother's regent. A lady of war, brandishing a blade red like the blood it has spilled. (Her brother doesn't want to inherit. He wants to lounge around like a wet blanket and paint dainty things forever! Why couldn't he have been born a younger sister to an older brother, he laments to his friends. Embroidery and accounting and getting married off far away from where he has to do saber practice every day sounds like a dream actually! "Poor a'Sang! You would have been such a good little sister!", Wei Ying coos dramatically. "Suck it up, Huaisang.", Jiang Cheng grumbles, "And don't you dare cry into my robes, that's silk you fucking heathen.")
Lan Xichen is the heir to Gusu Lan. He loves his little sister dearly and would do just about everything to ensure her hapiness. Yes, even argue with the clan elders. Just a tiny bit. His aunt is completely done with his behaviour. (Not that she's any better.)
Acting Sect Leader of the Gusu Lan is Teacher Lan, the Sect Leader's younger sister. Yes, Fem!Lan Qiren. Sue me. It's mostly because the Lan seperate male and female students, and for me that means that there must also be a division between male and female teachers. So to teach Wei Ying and hate her on sight Lan Qiren has to be a woman. Sorry, not sorry.
Lan Zhan is the first daughter and second child of the Lan Clan main family line. Nothing really changes about her other than her adopting a'Yuan causing a much larger scandal (because unmarried woman suddenly has a child is much worse than unmarried man suddenly has a child, duh).
Nie Huaisang befriends the Lotus Pier girls when Wei Ying sneaks into the men's part of the Cloud Recesses one night out of curiosity and runs into him while he's being a tortured artist (read: drawing filthy porn outside by flickering candlelight because his roommates are asleep).
After the destruction of Lotus Pier Jin Guangshan offers the Jiang support - if Jiang Yanli marries into the Jin Clan, effectively making Yunmeng Jiang a part of the Jin sect. The marriage happens, but Jiang Cheng takes over as Leader of Lotus Pier to keep it independent. (Nie Huaisang volunteers to marry into her family and support her because he's turning twenty soon and he really doesn't want to be sect leader. His a'Jie vetoes it.)
Jin Guangshan marries one of his daughters to a male Qin Su, knowing full well that the boy might be his son. The newly named Jin Guangyao is in charge of wedding preparations. He is the one Madam Qin tells to stop the wedding. Obviously he doesn't.
Mo Xuanyu is still a man (very short from malnorishment and with a very feminine face, but still a man) . He apologizes for that fact quite a lot in his notes when he offers his body to the Yiling Matriarch.
The Junior Quartet consists of a Lan boy, a Lan girl who doesn't give a flying fuck about the fact that the rules say she should be on an all girls team, the heir to Lanling Jin and the heir to Baling Ouyang.

Summary: Jiang Cheng seethes, gripping the bridge of his nose. “I don’t know how to help you,” he admits, “so I’m sending you to the people that do.” It nearly slips out then, the truth of the matter. Wei Wuxian opens his mouth to snap back ‘There’s no helping me, not now!’ but the words stick in his throat. Shijie is crying and Jiang Cheng is defiant and Lan Zhan is staring at him so earnestly that Wei Wuxian simply doesn’t know how to tell them all that he’s living on borrowed time. So he doesn’t. At the behest of his siblings, Wei Wuxian is sent to Gusu to recover from the strain of the Sunshot Campaign. If only he knew how to do that.
Mojo's comments: The jiang sibs stage an intervention and send a drunk and (unbeknownst to them) coreless wwx off to be cured in gusu. wwx is sick and depressed and avoidant, but itty bitty lan jingyi and the mystery surrounding a hidden Lan cabin filled with resentful energy are enough to start to bring him back to himself… at least enough to trust lwj and involve him in trying to free his mother's trapped spirit.
canon-divergence, post-sunshot campaign, hurt/comfort, getting together, fix-it, case fic, mild alcohol abuse, mental health issues, recovery, accidental baby acquisition, depression, pov wei wuxian, sick wei wuxian, hurt wei wuxian, wei wuixan goes to gusu, good brother jiang cheng, madam lan, lan jingyi, golden core reveal, first kiss, happy ending, @agloeian
