Hightail – MIA. Small, nimble, quick on his servos. Bit of a hot head. A two-wheeler with the ability to create smokescreens. Able to boost fort short distances. Equipped with the neutron assault rifle, a plasma-flamethrower, and a ‘mag-mortar’ that’s a magma mortar, to paint a picture for you. He acts like a tough showboat, but inside he's a big scaredy-bot. Apparently he was a cadet trained by Sentinel Magnus himself, explains a lot. Disappeared during a bombing at Iacon, one of our searching parties found him, once again collected by Agent WG. There’s also plenty of theories about him; that Skywarp got his transwarping powers from him, that he once defeated Liokaiser with one hand wielded behind his back, that Optimus let him hold The Matrix once; all these rumours, of course, come from him, I know big surprise. Also, I can't stand the sound of his voice. He's infuriating.

With any luck I'll kick the bucket
Thought I'd stay a while but fuck it
Lived in fear of missing something
Is she gonna relate?
Or slash my tires and trash my stuff
And blow it up then call my bluff
And see if I sit and do nothing or just wish it away?

Hightail it outta here
Tumblr media
Today’s Word of the Day comes courtesy of my friend Michael. He’s a big fan of old-time radio shows, especially mysteries and westerns. Michael sent me a note recently that said, “I was listening to radio drama from the golden age and the word ‘hightail’ came up (as it does in every Hoppy, Gene or Roy western) spoken by Brian Donlevy in “Dangerous Assignment.”  Might be a nice word with all its appearances in old westerns and clearly derives from the raised tails of fleeing deer and rabbits.  Not elegant, but evocative.”
Mike is correct on all counts. To “hightail it” – to move rapidly, often while fleeing, to beat a hasty retreat, make tracks, vamoose – does, indeed, derive from the raised tails of critters running away. (And I find it interesting that by combining an adjective, “high,” with a noun, “tail,” we get a verb, “hightail.” Ain’t English grand?)
He’s also right that it’s not particularly elegant. “Hightail” is American slang, usually attributed to cowboys or ranchers. It is certainly evocative, especially if you’ve ever seen a white-tailed deer spooked and running away.
“Hightail” pretty much always travels in company with “it.” The dirty varmints who just robbed the bank never simply “hightail” away. They always “hightail it” back to their hideout.
It didn’t take long for “hightail it” to become a very popular phrase. Merriam-Webster says the first known use of “hightail” was in 1908 (although most other sources put it in the 1890’s). So it was still a veritable youngster when it became prevalent in the Golden Age of Radio (the 1930’s and 40’s).
Thanks, Michael, for letting me hijack your word and then hightail it out of here.

As Rabble is finally defeated by Miles Morales, things seem to be bittersweet. Agent Gao's team are back to their normal selves even though they are injured. Rabble is badly injured that she had to be taken to prison hospital. Miles Morales and his team are fine as well as Rhino leaves on good terms.
Shift the clone is alive but injured that he had to be taken to hospital. However, because of Shift's bad experience with the laboratory for being raised and abused in his life, he refused to be taken to hospital. Miles Morales decides that Shift has to go to a better place - his home. Thus, Miles Morales takes his clone brother to his house where he introduces Shift to his family. Miles' parents are shocked at the sight of the clone while his little sister recognizes Shift (since he saved her from Selim when she was a baby) and warms up to him.
