So this is 39...

I was gonna do one of those X amount of things I've learned by age whatever, but 39 is a lot of things and tbh I'm not sure if I’ve learned that many (as some of you would undoubtedly agree). So, in true Hippo fashion, please accept this list of random assorted things I've picked up like shiny trinkets/facts I've come to accept through the years.

Believe it or not you're worth the effort, love and care you try to give everyone else but don't think you deserve.

Usually the more I've tried to fit in and be like everyone else, the more unhappy I've been. Let your freak flag fly and see who sticks around in your blanket fort.

Legos, coloring, stuffies, swing sets, daydreaming and other ‘childish pursuits’ are not, in fact, just for kids.

when given the opportunity, a solo car concert is a solid choice

If you're constantly putting yourself in boxes for the benefit of someone else... honestly, what's the point?

Find at least one person you can drop the mask with and be fully, authentically you.

Groups break up, accidents and weather happen... just go to the concert/show/exhibit if you wanna instead of waiting for ‘next time’.

random punch out headcanons (theyre a little king hippo skewed)

- aran ryan is really good at rhyming. he uses this to annoy people. One time, he wrote a purple prose joke letter to don flamenco which he thought was a genuine exclamation from his lover Carmen, only to find it signed ''(...) my stalwart bullfighting lion, you shine brightly like the mighty orion -> love, aran ryan ♥''. Needless to say, hell broke loose. Aran thought it was worth it though.

- because of aran's rhyming abilities, disco kid has asked him to do a music collab. big mistake, aran only wanted to create sea shanty inspired diss tracks.

- von kaiser is a polyglot !!! he knows almost every language every person speaks in the WVBA. He's not fluent in all of them, but he'll still happily translate for them, if their english is not the best, or if they simply feel more comfortable communicating in their native tongue.

- all the boxers have fanart walls. bear huggers fanart is either wholesome art of him holding or taking care of animals or scribbles of him eating a big raw fish. he thinks the latter r very funny.

- king hippo loves collecting little sea critter trinkets !!! he WILL infodump to you ab them. his favorite fish is the gulper eel, he looked at that fish and thought Hes just like me fr.

- glass joe is a disgruntled fashion snob. he WILL insult his fellow competitors' fashion tastes under his breath. army clothes? in a boxing ring? unfitting! leotards?! out of fashion! Even if other's overhear it, they just leave him be. He's the lowest ranking boxer of the WVBA, hes gotta release his frustration somehow, right?

- great tiger sometimes talks to his own clones if he needs advice or otherwise just wants someone to talk to. It helps him regulate his thoughts and emotions when hes overwhelmed.

- king hippo is the type to unintentionally spit some real wisdom. He even once (unintentionally) gave the materialistic super macho man an existential crisis w/ a pineapple metaphor. Don’t ask macho how, he’ll just spiral again.

- aran ryan, great tiger and piston hondo are in a constant prank war w/ eachother. if things go really awry, either bear hugger or mr sandman step in.

- king hippo's original ring name was ''the human hippo''. he changed it to ''king hippo'' after he became the minor circuit champion though. he, in a way, became king of the ring :)

- bald bull is quite the introverted guy, the press notwithstanding. he has a lot of energy that he can't always release onto a sparring partner. because of this, he's often an emotional mess that outs itself in pent-up aggression. additionally, most social situations are too overwhelming to him, even without the press, and the only opponent he can really equally spar with are his world circuit opponents and his punching bag.

- king hippo, bear hugger, great tiger and bald bull share a companionship for naming themselves after animals. They once tried to get super macho man to change his name to ''super macho shark'' and have mr sandman adopt a sheep gimmick.

- super macho man has ambitions to become the next us president. After he retires boxing, though.

Help wanted 2 spoilers!!

Okay I don't know if this has already been considered or not, but I have a theory of who the second candy cadet story is about

The two takes I've seen is either Vanessa or Cassie, which is absolutely fair and valid bc it does make sense! But I feel like there's problems with both interpretations

The story is basically, a young girl is tricked by a witch's friendly voice and barely escapes being eaten but is scarred for the rest of her life. Then when she grows up she seeks revenge, a young boy helps to guide her through the woods, and at the end we learn she was tricked again, and the witch finally has her meal

Here's my problems with both interpretations

Vanessa. Most of this works, I won't lie to you! I was willing to believe it up until "the oven door closed, the witch would finally have her meal." We do see Vanessa get possessed, or "scarred" for life, and we see her seek revenge, potentially accompanied by a young boy to some extent, however we don't get any clear indication that she fails this goal, as the only time we clearly see her is the princess quest 4 ending, where she's successful

Tldr, most of it fits, but I don't think the ending does

With Cassie, the second half of the story fits to a T! She's led by a young boy who's later revealed to have been a trick to lead her to the mimic, who, as the first half of the story says, she barely escapes from. However, the story clearly states a past encounter with the witch that left her scarred, and it's only after a significant amount of time, now with the "confidence of age and wisdom" that she comes back to get revenge. As far as we know, Cassie never encountered the mimic before ruin, and she's still a young child when she does encounter it. And considering we see her in the basic ending getting the mask the timeline doesn't match up either

Tldr, only pieces of the story fit, and important details such as her age definitely do not

SO, who do I think the story could be about

First thing to consider, the player character could potentially be who it's about, as the player can't be vanny since we see her as a separate entity, and I don't think it's cassie as the game seems to be set pre-ruin (in the real/non-AR world sun and moon are in a similar state Cassie found them in before turning them back into eclipse, for one). And then in the basic faz tron ending, the player is then attacked by, supposedly, glitchtrap/mimic controlling the nightmare bots, which could be the witch finally getting her meal, but, the player has no known correlation with the rest of the story right?

Well

Who says the characters in the story have to be a 1 to 1? The witch is certainly a different concept from mimic, so in theory the woman's gender doesn't have to be relevent, and that opens up more options

So my thought process here was, is there any other character who we know for sure has gotten "scarred" by glitchtrap/mimic in the past, and we can reasonably assume to still be alive/likely to come back?

Help wanted Jeremy.

From what we understand he was the first known character to interact with glitchtrap, and it ended with the paper slicer incident, that sure as hell will leave a scar. And I'm not sure we know how many years its been between both help wanted games, but I feel it's safe to assume it's been enough time for him to have grown a bit, even if more so mentally than physically, and want to put an end to glitchtrap. And then let's say he's the player character, and the basic ending is the witch getting her meal.

(I'll be honest, I don't know how the young boy would play into this interpretation, so, this is by no means a perfect solution)

But also, there's the evidence that the player is Cassie's dad

Carnie saying "You look like you got kids, win a prize for the little one!" Freddy saying "you are a fazbear technician, are you not?" Which I get is played off as a joke but considering mystic Hippo says "the key is familiar to you" in refrence to the faz wrench, I feel like there's merit to it, plus the fact that the player has a vanni mask, which is a fazbear technician thing.

But the biggest thing, to me, is the secret Bonnie mask, which appears with the text "this feels familiar" and it gives you an achievement titled "remember Jeremy"

Cassie's dad's favorite is said to be Bonnie, and "remember Jeremy" is pretty straightforward I'd say.

So, anyway, I don't have a coherent conclusion to this, I've never written out a theory before so take it easy on me lol, but I had an epiphany in the shower today and needed to share it! I don't have anyone to bounce ideas off of as of right now so if anyone has any additional ideas or counter points (respectfully!) I'd love hear it! :)

Leo, the useless gay he is, needs someone to talk to about boy troubles.

His brothers are out of the question. Same goes for April. They'd all make fun of him, lovingly, but there's only so many jabs he could take until it got old.

His dad was a bi icon during his life as Lou Jitsu. Still is, just... old. Yet, Leo was not comfortable talking to his father about this. It would be too weird.

Hueso was also out of the question since the bone man wasn't exactly the touchy-feely type. Don't get him wrong, Leo adores his adoptive-uncle, but this was not the solution to his problem.

So who does he turn to?

Hypno. The hippo magician was pretty cool when he wasn't causing mayhem. Especially after getting together with what's his face. An elder gay to give advice and pass along his wisdom.

Leo and Hypno get together every other weekend for tea so that Leo can complain about his boy troubles.

Now...

Sokka and Toph were walking through a smaller Fire Nation city's market together, trying to buy some much needed food supplies. Aang and Katara were elsewhere in the market, looking for a few more changes of clothes for all of them. They'd been hiding out in the enemy's territory for almost two weeks now, and had gotten somewhat used to their new normal, enough so that, when someone walked up to the same stall as them, they didn't tense up in suspicion. At least, not until they were addressed.

"Say, young man!" A greying man in fairly plain clothes asked, staring obliquely at Sokka's back. "Where did you get such a weapon all the way here in the Fire Nation?"

Spirits, I forgot to leave Boomerang with Appa! Sokka scrambled for something to say, anything, when his mouth opened for him, and out came, "Oh, this old thing? My father gave it to me, and he stole it from a Southern Water Tribe soldier." Not that! Anything but that!

But both the man and the stall keeper looked amazed, not suspicious. "Wow, impressive! Thank you for indulging me, young man. Continue on!" And the man walked off, leaving Sokka and Toph to finish their purchases and hurry on their way.

The young earthbender visibly restrained herself until they were on their way to their next destination. "Was that... Not a lie?"

Sokka sighed. "No, it was true. It used to belong to Bato."

Twenty years ago...

Crack!

"Did it just break your—?!"

"Yes, Bato, it did! Run!"

The two southern water tribe men took off running, Bato with an injured arm, Hakoda now weaponless, with a limping arctic hippo chasing after them. It was stupid to run from an angry predator, but it was even more stupid to not get as far away from it as possible since they, in their infinite teenaged wisdom, had decided it was a good idea to go hunting by themselves. Oh spirits, no one even knows where we are, Hakoda thought hysterically.

"Here!" A weapon sling was shoved into Hakoda's chest, his hands instinctively coming up to grab it. Wha— "You're our best chance at getting out of here, use this!" Bato cried out.

He looked at what his best friend had given him and nearly dropped the sling in shock. "Bato, I can't—this is your family heirloom! What if I lose it!"

Bato gave him a frustrated look. "It's a boomerang, they come back. Now stop stalling and just hit something with it! Preferably the limping iceberg of death that's currently gaining on us!"

Hakoda took a shaky breath and nodded, swinging the sling over his shoulders to not lose it as he pulled the boomerang out. He just held it in his hand for a few running steps, testing the weight and balance, and nodded. With no warning, he stopped, turned, took in the scene, aimed, and threw, eyes clenched tightly shut, praying to any spirit willing to listen that the boomerang would hit his target.

Clink. Crack. Snap. Whoosh. THUD.

"Tui and La," Bato breathed behind him. Hakoda's eyes flew open, widening in similar shock and awe at what had happened. Absentmindedly, he moved his still outstretched hand to the side slightly and caught the boomerang. The same boomerang that had apparently wildly missed his mark, the arctic hippo, and instead hit a nearby ice cliff, breaking off a surprising amount of ice and snow right over the now crushed beast.

"... I see why your ancestors decided to pass a boomerang down through the family, now," Hakoda managed after a moment of stunned silence. Bato broke down laughing at that.

I hope that was okay (⁠；⁠^⁠ω⁠^⁠）I haven't really written much of anything ATLA, ever, and it's been a while since my last binge of the series (⁠´⁠-⁠﹏⁠-⁠`⁠；⁠) I've been on an ATLA fic kick for the past few days, though, and now that DP/DC week 2022 is over, I decided to change gears a bit and try something new lol I hope I got their characterizations alright (⁠٥⁠↼⁠_⁠↼⁠)
