AND YES!! The meals were all correct but one <XD google says that sea otters eat crab. So I googled "crab meat meal" and drew one of the things that came up. It might be a salad thing..? Or a crab pasta thingy.?? Not sure <XDD But MAN the potatoes would have been a good idea too-

One detail that I was fond of was the steam coming from everyone's cups. Though Peso and Barnacles have no steam, because they're drinking cold drinks! You get it?? Becuase they are cold creatures?? Don't like warm things??? I'm so smart 🤣

Though Toga is so sweet. She finally finds people who accept her quirk and are willing to give her blood as if it doesn't mean anything, as if it doesn't mean the world to Toga (they do know, they know now) and I love that for her.

"Dabi wishes he could take some of the work from his shoulders" They're so sweet. Especially with how much you make sure the reader knows Dabi does take off of Shigaraki's shoulders. Even here, when as a cat he can't work as much, he's helping.

I love Compress. Without Dabi, he's the second in command and he fills that position well. Of course Onigiri is actually first but since we don't count that...

Shigaraki arguing with his cat over said cat's drinking habits is funny as fuck. No wonder Compress thinks Onigiri is some kind of nomu.

The designer sounds fun! The thing about fashion! Yes! Absolutely! Especially since they're UA gym uniforms you'd think they would be fireproof, but no. God, I cannot imagine how expensive quirk adjusted clothes would be, if you think about how expensive even glasses can get (which are rarely covered by insurance). Damn.

It's interesting to see them pick their outfits! Nice!

Oof, being told off like that has to suck for Spinner, but it's something he needs to hear, especially since they're going to work with Stain in the future.

Oh, that's interesting! How Dabi views all of their resolves now that he's calmer than in canon. I like that a lot.

The League interacting with each other without the constant threat of death is so nice to see. I love that for them. They deserve a happy domestic life (of planning and training for terrorism).

I'm really happy that Muscular and Moonfish aren't part of the League here! It shows that they're really Shigaraki's group and he makes more confident decisions. I mentioned more of this in my last comment, but yeah, I like that a lot.

Dabi's trust in Shigaraki has grown so much since the first chapter. Not only Shigaraki, but everyone in the League. He trusts that they won't hurt him, that Tomura especially will keep him safe even while he's a cat and small. Ahhhh, I love this. Well, at least he trusts them not to hurt Onigiri. Dabi is once again seperating himself from the others by making a clear cut between Dabi and Onigiri. He thinks he can only be either one or the other. Oh damn.

The fact that Shigaraki especially tells the League that the Doctor is lying should he tell them to do anything really speaks of how much trust he has in the guy. It's none.

Compress being in physical pain about how Shigaraki washes his fancy clothes is very amusing.

"He can enjoy being human for a little while" if only Dabi knew how incredibly wrong everything starts going in the very next scene.

The League is a family!! Shigaraki didn't just give them a job, he gave them a home! It's all about connection baby!!!!

Magne deserves to be loud and supportive and really earning of the title "Big Sis" by treating the rest of them like family! Toga deserves to have people who accept her "evil" quirk as a part of her and not even blink about giving her what she needs to fuel it! And Compress deserves to show off how intelligent he is!

I think we all should spend more time thinking about how everyone being a superhero would affect pop culture and the world. Like Superhero movies? Documentaries now. So do the Sci-fi and Fantasy genres take off more? In a world with people with non-standard human biology, are there more years required to train as a doctor? If there aren't, how many more medical malpractice suits are made? Why does the fashion in the age of superheroes look so similar to that of fashion from well before that time? I can't get into all of these things in my writing, but it's something that SHOULD be considered in the world-building. MHA rests on the idea that all entertainment comes from heroes, heroes are the toys, heroes market products, heroes make clothes, etc. But I would like to mention if that is true, it speaks to an even more stilted and withered version of culture than has been explored in the Canon.

Spinner's having a rough time, but just like Shigaraki having to see his ideas/behaviors were stunting his growth, Spinner is at a point where he needs that too. This guy went from a law-abiding citizen to a villain from watching some videos online of a serial killer. That's not a great pipeline, and it's clear he's kind of using his obsession with Stain to keep from deeply examining the societal and racial injustice that he's been facing his whole life and deciding how he wants to fight back against that. He has strong beliefs, but he'll only be able to see them realized and stand up on his own if he takes the time to figure himself out and not just try to rip-off of someone else's.

Muscular and Moonfish are never part of my League! All my homies hate Muscular and Moonfish! ✊🏼

Welcome Home x K-12 au

I know, I know, there's so many Welcome Home AUs anyway, but why not one more? Why not one more au? Why not one more alternate universe Wally Darling to call your darling? No, but fr I think Welcome Home and K-12 together would work so well. They're both childlike with adult themes that look more innocent than they let on. I haven't done many designs, but I thought about who I want to be who. So let's get into it.

First off, Wally Darling would be Crybaby. The main character of the story. He would be mostly stoic like how he is from the arg, but gets very emotional when he feels sad, giving him the nickname Crybaby among his peers. In the movie, the uniforms include short pink dresses for girls and white shirts with blue pants for the boys, both with a heart in the center with the k-12 logo in the middle. Crybaby dyes her dress lilac. I imagine Wally dyeing his uniform a light, pastel red. I'm not sure whether I want him wearing a dress or pants though.

Barnaby would be Angelita. Crybaby's best friend, the one who Crybaby/Wally can be the most vulnerable with. Barnaby would still be a joke-cracking comic, but he would also have Angelita's tough exterior, where he would convince Wally to stand up for himself more, just like what Angelita does.

Frank would be Celeste. I honestly could not have found a better placement for Frank. Both are deadpan, smart, and snarky, and aren't afraid to tell off a bully. Both are also easy to piss off.

Julie would be Magnolia. Both have a happy demeanor and love having fun and playing games. In the movie, Magnolia is the girl that sits alone before Crybaby makes friends with her via a really complicated secret hand shake, something I feel like her and Wally would do. Crybaby and Magnolia are also really short and the same size, like Wally and Julie, which I think is really cute. idk I just felt like bringing that up.

Poppy would be Fleur. Another really fitting one. Both Poppy and the actress of Fleur are trans women. Fleur is gentle and kind, but is manipulated by the popular clique for a while, believing that she's not good enough, and develops an ed. The movie includes a heart-to-heart where Fleur confides with Crybaby. I imagine having Poppy and Wally do that scene would be really fitting for both of their characters.

Sally would be Kelly. Kelly is the big mean girl that bully's Crybaby, and attacks her for flirting with her boyfriend, and later tries to include her in the clique after seeing her take down the abusive principal. Sally has mean girl energy. Although she would never do the things Kelly does, they're both overdramatic and think they're so great. In the movie, the girls apart of Kelly's clique all look the same, so I like to imagine all of Sally's girls would look like different stars.

Howdy would be the principal's son. Half-way through the movie, the principal is replaced by his son, who is even more unfair and bossy, caring only about money. Again, that's not really Howdy, but Clown did mention that Howdy is pretty bossy at some point. It's not shown much in the arg, but I still believe he would be perfect for the principal's son.

I'm not sure where Eddie would fit. I imagine him being Thomas, the guy who tells Crybaby the principal's forcing meds on certain students in the beginning. But Thomas doesn't get much screen time, and I would love to include Eddie more. I might interchange him and make him multiple one off characters, like Henry, the student who refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. I know that in the movie, Crybaby gets an anonymous love letter. In the au, I want Eddie to deliver a love letter to someone (I'm sure you know who) but it goes to Wally instead by accident.

I'm also not sure where Bea, Franny, and Jonesy Joyful (Julie's siblings) would fit. Maybe Franny could be Kelly, but I don't think Franny would be fitting. She seems like she'd be more deadpan than overdramatic like Sally. I've thought about making Jonesy the guy who asks Crybaby/Wally out as a joke... I think that could work but we'll see... As for Bea, I'm stumped

Lilith would be Ronald Dorelaine, the in-universe creator. Lilith in the movie is Crybaby's spirit guide. Crybaby also often begs for Lilith to take her away from the hell she's in... I swear these roles are too perfect. I do wonder if Wally Darling in the arg is aware of Ronald's existance...

Finally, as for Ben, Crybaby's love interest... y/n takes that role in the au. Don't come at me please, but this just feels right. Pretty much everyone does this in the WH aus. Besides... I'm not normal about Wally, so why not. (God I'm so glad Clown hasn't looked at the aus).

I'll create designs for the characters later. I'm hoping I can really flesh this au out as I go.

I also need a name for this au... maybe H-12??? W-12? H makes more sense though.

Skip and Loafer Episode 10: Scrambling and Dripping

Well, with The Sound of Music as the background, we finally begin to explore Shima's character in proper. Flashbacks to childhood, repressed feelings and thoughts, and resolutions and progression that drives his current self forward. There's certainly a lot going on, and a lot to share!

We start the episode off with Chris himself laying into Shima for his issues, which I thought was a nice touch. Without his friend, Shima probably wouldn't have made the progress he did this episode, nor would he have opened up near as much to his friends.

But before that I just wanted to muse over this layout. I thought it was really fun and cute at expressing the differences between Shima and Chris. It does so through stuff like the ice cream vs drink, but also the differences in their posture, the style of their uniform, and even their bags. I just thought it was interesting and a fun little piece to add that gives Chris his own personality.

Anyways, the line in question from Chris. I particularly like how he phrases it in terms of acting, almost to rub a bit more salt in the wound of Shima in regards to the issue.

Following up their diner conversation though is one that happens outdoors, which I find far more interesting. I really like how they show Chris to not be some perfect friend that has all the right words for Shima, but rather that he stumbles around and has thoughts that exist from his own point of view, like this one. It's not so much as he's confusing Shima's experience as a child actor, but that he sees it from a different perspective. Shima was also so happy and excited to be able to put that smile on his mother's face, and Chris picks up on that enjoyment from a different angle than the chains that Shima imposes on himself.

And then there's whatever this was. Absolutely caught me off guard and got a laugh out of me. The perfect ending to a chat between blossoming high school boys for sure.

We swiftly move from Shima and Chris' conversation to a montage of the prep for the festival, and while it's pretty well typical with what you'd expect, I liked this one little moment. All the other groups featured are chatting or saying something when they're on screen, but the pair that are in charge of the budget are totally silent. Really simple piece, but I got a good little laugh of it.

The montage wraps up just as quick as it comes in, and we get whisked away to the world of The Sound of Music for an explanation of the plot. Not really anything to write home about, but I really liked the art style they used for it. It's still in tune with the overall color and character designs and stuff, but provides just the right amount of artistic edge to separate it.

Anyways, they explain the story, they do a little musical piece as an example for viewers, and then they press onwards. I really like how they follow the camaraderie and excitement shared by the rehearsal with Mitsumi's isolation behind the scenes. The other students are smiling and working together, while Mitsumi stands idly in the background. She herself even wishes to be a part of what her class is doing this year, which creates a bittersweet yearning for her inclusion.

Now, I did say this was an episode about Shima, but here I am talking about Mitsumi? Well, that's because it's important in regards to how Shima reflects on a flashback that follows Mitsumi's scene here. I think it's a really important flashback in how things are shown, because through it all, we only ever see the smiles on Shima and his mother's faces. Every other emotion from anybody in that scene is otherwise hidden, and tells viewers a different story than what it is exactly that Shima experiences and feels when reliving that moment.

The flashback comes and goes, and so does Mitsumi in a whirlwind of outside of school work. She ends up missing her morning meeting, which the people involved assure her they're not worried about in the slightest.

But this is high school, and these kids don't know better.

I think it's a really great piece for both ends. The important message of course being, you never know how hard someone's trying. These two girls who are only in charge of the play, have no idea of the weight that Mitsumi carries around for their sake. And rather than hash out their concern or challenges (or just be more accepting) they choose to talk about her after the fact.

It's not bullying, but it's one of those pieces of high school life where people that haven't given anything up don't understand what others have done. Sympathy runs dry with those types of characters, and it's plain to see how here. It's not that they're being terrible towards Mitsumi because she missed their meeting, but they're talking poorly of her because of things that they don't understand. It's a very naïve thought to have, and drives home the selfishness of characters like that in a very straightforward way.

We don't dwell on this moment for long though, as Shima once more uses Mitsumi as his crutch for introspection. Seeing himself in her reflection, in his perceived fragility of Mitsumi, he begins to explore himself more and more. And through the flashback this time, we begin to piece things together more and more.

Shima doesn't particularly like acting, we know that as a "truth" from present Shima. But his mother doesn't see it like that. The pair form a positive feedback loop, where Shima's acting is meant to make his mother happy, and his mother's smile and love is what spurs Shima on to continue with acting. This time, we see that they're not wearing those smiles on their faces, but Shima's not currently acting. Once he does though, that light returns to the pair of them.

In contrast to this happy memory of acting bringing Shima and his mother joy, he moves onto placing himself in the shoes of his role in The Sound of Music, the gardener Johan. While not anything new or really exceptional from Shima at this point in the series, I think it's an important piece in how he views himself and the world he exists in. That his happiness is not his own, and that the only pieces of himself that are truly him are the negative aspects.

Even though he buys Mitsumi a drink and chats with her to lighten her mood. Even if he dances with her to get a laugh out of her. Even if he chooses to be in the play because his friends ask him to. Shima is incredibly adept at ignoring those positive aspects of himself, and instead places them on Mitsumi, atop a pedestal that remains far away from his reach.

But I'll explain that in a bit, look at this incredibly cute clip.

Alright, cute song and dance finished, back to what I was saying. What a hugely important even to follow up this little sequence. Once more, we find ourselves in that pathway/outdoor hallway from an earlier episode, but with the roles reversed. This time, it's not Shima leaving Mitsumi behind, but it's Mitsumi leading the way for Shima. Such an important piece of symbolism and progression for him. He's not hiding a "secret" or being a shallow friend to Mitsumi. He's bearing his heart to this girl, and in turn Mitsumi is guiding Shima towards his happiness and the acceptance of himself and his past. That pedestal still exists, but even if it's only ever so slightly, Shima feels like he's gotten closer to reaching Mitsumi.

And then there's this piece as well, if that visual wasn't enough.

And this is where the episode leaves us, as the students work tirelessly to bring their ambitions towards reality. It's a really great piece that doesn't neglect the great world around Shima, but also doesn't try too hard to represent it. This is his episode, and they want us to know that. They want us to focus on the childhood memories and trauma that chains him within, of the guilt and repression and justification he uses to exist how he does currently.

But they also want to show us how far he's come. How much he cares for another person, how much he wants to be happy and have the life that he wants. That he wants to work towards standing alongside Mitsumi, rather than leaving her behind or forcing her to guide him. It's just really really well done, and delivers on the storyline we've had since day 1. It's not finished yet, not by a mile, but we're getting progress and getting to see Shima start to want to grow.

since it's taking me forever to even get started on the briar outfit lineup i thought i'd share some notes about him and his clothes the same way i did with evie :3

fancy rich boy with fancy rich boy clothes! his clothes aren't necessarily flashy or special but you can definitely tell they're high quality

his sense of perfectionism definitely carries over into how he dresses and he takes really good care of his belongings. you will not catch him in clothes that are wrinkled or ill fitting or otherwise flawed. he will die.

you'd think that would make him judgemental of how others dress but that's not the case! partly because he's aware of how stupid the rules he has for himself are and partly because he's too busy being self conscious about his own looks anyway :)

vampires are pretty temperature resistent if that makes sense? wether it's hot or cold doesn't really bother them too much so that doesn't technically have any effect on how they dress but in general the majority of them try to dress appropriate to the weather to not rouse suspicion

but as i've mentioned before they are sensitive to sunlight! long sleeves/pants/skirts, hats and sunglasses are all staples in most vampires' wardrobe

both of these are true for briar as well but he doesn't like sunglasses or hats lol he will wear them when necessary but he won't like it. that's part of the reason why he he wears his hair long: so it can block out the sun a little

he goes to a fancy vampire private school so they have a uniform there. surprisingly the school isn't too strict about students customizing their uniform a little or wearing it in a more unconventional way. for example you'll see lots of students wearing different shirts under their blazers or flashy accessories.

briar chooses not to do that. he is the most perfect boy in the entire world with the most perfect uniform. if he shows individuality he dies. the most he'll do is wear simple earrings and maybe like a ring or something

members of the student council get a bat shaped pin to show their authority and boy is he delighted!! not just because it's like a badge of pride but also because it's a bat omg!!!!

i said before that briar is OBSESSED with human made media about vampires and similairly, he's really into anything humans associate with vampires!! bats, silver jewellery, the colour red, gothic clothes and interior design etc.!! he loves it so he's like unreasonably happy that he gets to wear a bat pin to school every day lol

as expected he's dying to wear more goth clothes but again, his perfectionism is stopping him and individuality means death sigh so he settles for a more dark academia style

in general he really likes button downs. he likes how they feel and look and he finds buttoning stuff satisfying lol he would totally be the type to unironically wear silly hawaiian shirts if he was less strict on himself

vampires can turn into bats because you know!! it's fun :3 making clothes that shift with the wearer, wether they're a vampire, werewolf, shape shifter etc., is a whole profession!!

briar is so so so jealous of how evie and nate aren't afraid to express themselves with their clothes but fear not, they will help him get over his inhibitions :]

evie likes dressing nate and briar up in her clothes or clothes of the other, she makes them do fashion shows for her later lol

clothes sharing becomes a big thing for the tree later on, initiated by nate! in werewolf culture it's very common to share stuff and especially clothes with your loved ones and pack mates <3

🌊 Aish hairstyles 🌊

Literally oh my fucking god the designers can't think of more than three fucking hairstyles for Aisha, if I never see her with twin puffs again it will be too soon. Put her in a unique fucking hairstyle you assholes. This anger at the complete lack of interesting hair for Aisha is what sparked me to do this series in the first place. Just so I can show how fucking cool her hair could be if they weren't fucking cowards about it. Unsurprisingly this one took me the longest, with all the braids I had to line and color (tho it didn't take as much time as expected), but it was a lot of fun to do. I was easily the most excited to this one for obvious reasons. She looks great. I went a little ham on the gold jewelry but Aisha deserves it ok?? Her hairstyles in the show are so dull, she needs some fun

Side note, Aisha has the second longest hair out of the Winx, longest naturally, but it isn't visible due to how coily Aisha's hair is. My hair goes from barely toucing my shoulders to below my sternum, and my hair is curly as where I draw it Aisha's the 4 range. So yeah, her hair gets like at least 6 inches when straighten, going all the way to her butt. I also challenged myself to style her edges differently with every drawing djsjs which you can probably tell

Anyways on to the individual styles

Classic Aisha: this is the hairstyle I've started to usually draw Aisha in. Sporty and practical meet fun and feminine! I also gave her a nose piercing bc she, Musa, and Tecna have the vibes, and to fit the slight vibe of Andros. Aisha's hair in canon usually looks like it's on the low side of curly, and the reason why is made p clear by the miss magix ep and s8/WOW, so I decided to give her tight coily hair. Btw yeah that's her s2 camping outfit

Twists Aisha: this was my first foray into drawing this hairstyle, I usually draw dreads and box braids in this area, so it doesn't look super good but hey I tried jdnsjs. I wanted to stylized them so I'd didn't spend years trying to finish them, and you can visibly see me give up on that with the next drawing, but I think if I were doing a comic or quick doodles this is what I would go with. Anyways, I did this one because it really makes me think of Aisha athletic nature. Idk they just look super athletic to me, and I gave her a little extra ponytail for the fashion of it. Sporty chic

Mermaid-y: When I first drew these braids with the flat bottoms, they kinda looked like Mermaid tails to me?? So my brain was like, Aisha in her mermaid era <33. So my heart is set on her having this hair during s5, mermaid season, mermaid hair. It's literally perfect. Also I thought this top was super cute. This is where I really went overboard with the gold, but she's in her mermaid era, princess, guardian fairy, and dame. She can have a little (lottle) gold, as a treat. She deserves it, she's been though a lot lately with her family and Nabu being in a COMA. Some fun hair is good for the soul

Date night: light rage. They put Aisha's hair into pigtails for every causal event that happens and it inches across my last nerve like you wouldn't believe. Much like how that uniform outfit ruined one of Musa's hairstyles, pigtails feel ruined for Aisha, but making the. Apart of a braid really lessoned the blow. Half of me wishes I did a head wrap instead, but I can't just not include them. The outfit is super cute tho. She's going on a date!!! Yess!!! So pretty. I'm so happy with her earrings and dress. She and Nabu are gonna go have a picnic together, it's gonna be great

Box braids: I just got my braids taken out this Friday, which was fun (it hurt a lot, especially taking the small ones out ;-;) and I think it's a really good hairstyle for Aisha. I used to think that they'd be super impractical due to being so long, but because they're so heavy they're not actually annoying to deal with at all. They don't move all that much and they don't really get in the way. These would work perfectly for Aisha. Giving her the long hair, and the practicality. Absolute win! Of course I had to go for her outfit from her date with Musa. These kinds of braids always make me think someone has an important event coming up or they're trying to look cute, and a first date is a perfect occasion. I had so much fun with the earrings and braid decorations

Work out: I wanted to go for something simple, less fancy, and that doesn't require braiding, for of her hairstyles to just like her hair be itself and vibe. Here it is in a classic half up half down look, completely unbraided and vibing. Outfit slightly inspired by Serena Williams's entire aesthetic, including the headband. I didn't wanna put her hair over her shoulders, which admittedly looks a little weird but I wanted the high low part to be clear fjsjdnd

Poodle puffs: Personally I think Poodle puffs are really hard to styles, because it's hard to get the size of the puffs right without going too far in either direction. I think I got it right here? I think four is a good number of puffs. This is probably one of my favorite looks, mostly because of how warm and royal it looks. I'm a sucker for shiney jewelry and warm colors. I think this one came out especially well, I love the earrings, and the dress looks really good! I was worried it was gonna look silly but thankfully it doesn't

Bantu knots: She just looks gorgeous here. It adds so much to her orginal red carpet energy. Her hair is now all done up and fancy. Her nose ring also adds to the energy. I really like the earring, despite how lopsided it is lol, but I do wonder if it was a little too much for such a elegant outfit? Idk. Either way I didn't do anything to this look because I love it and she looks amazing. Not thoughts, head empty, bantu knots pretty

Princess Aisha: Hehe this one is probably my favorite out of all the hair. Not the outfit top XD. I don't like poofy European dresses rip. I got to go as fancy as I want!! I feel like Aisha usually tries to stay away from super fancy and complicated one event only hairstyles (which is why she usually goes for protective hairstyles she can wear for a while with low maintenance before needing to change it), but she's making a formal appreances, which means I can loop a gem into her hair. I also got to put big gems on her outfit and earrings which was super fun. This perticualr hairstyle always looked super royal to me and I had to include some proper beads on the look too. They match the gem she's wearing. Extra royal look. Her headgear as a child did something similar, but now that she's older she can just get proper braids put that do what the head gear was doing but better. Also can you tell that I was worried about getting too close to the edge of the page XD

How do you design the outfits for people (like your GG ocs and young Darius/Eberwold and stuff) They're all so pretty!!

Thank you! I was actually thinking of one day making a post about how i make up witchy outfits! This ask isnt going to be that but Im glad to answer my process!

In short, its a lot of observation, references and extrapolating from there

And here's the long version:

For younger Darius and Eber i mostly did small changes to these outfits i did when they were even younger, around 17, with some changes + adding some flare of their current outfits as well

And in turn, for Darius' outfit i took inspiration from the photo in reaching out where he's booing Alador + the boots he used in TTBK.

Eber was mostly improvised, kept the main aspects of his current outfit (and the hollow mind one too), the raggedy bits, shorts/skirts, no sleeves, little boots, wrist things, and implemented them in different ways

And also on these i started adding details they have now, like the wrist bands on Eber and a cape + white gloves for Darius

(plus i had been sketching some ideas for casual outfits for current Darius and those have been inspired by the outfits I have for a non toh oc of mine because they kinda fit Darius' vibe and he also has a bit of diamond shape motif like Darius. That's where the sash thing comes from)

Another important thing i keep doing on a lot of characters is that a common shape for the neck of the shirts is V that Hunter, Lilith and many other characters have. Its all over the place when you stop to look for it. And other really common thing is that theres a lot of long shirts that have a belt or waitsband, extremely common

I did answer a bit of how I designed Cain and Salem's outfits here but in short, it was a lot of referencing both Hunter's outfits, concept art for coven scouts/Hunter (i actually found more concept art for coven scouts but haven't took the time to really absorb them) and also the hollow mind portraits.

Something I haven't shown a lot here yet is that Ive designed casual outfits for all my main four GGs (sorry Alexander and William, you're too hard for me to design stuff for now :'3) which was really helpful on figuring out on what feels like Boiling Isles' fashion. Might do a post about my process on that + the uniforms of my other GGs and their physical appearances

(fun fact, Cain has a lot of stuff that I drew on older versions of Hunter, including the scar across the eye)

So yeah, lots of observation, references and a healthy dose of extrapolation and improvising. And taking vibes from other places helps too. I think even some stuff from my old Hunter aus have seeped into some of these designs too, like the Hunter Whispers outfit, looks pretty similar to the 17 year old Darius outfit i did so it was probably an unconscious reference (which also, remembering again, i did also base on the shape of his hollow mind shirt. See, i keep remembering things that are or could have been inspirations for these things fjsndnd)

But its also a thing you have to get some practice going on before it feels right and turns into something easy to do

I myself have struggled a lot with Darius' outfit on his early 20s, this is actually the fourth attempt or so. Here's the previous attempt, from before i decided to make him younger than Cain + his outfit at 17 because i also found it while looking for the other photo and i don't think i posted that drawing before

His hair was a challenge to decide. But im happy with the final result!

1) what would their social media page/activity be like: i hate to say this... but this guy is on facebook!!!! maybe he has a twitter but he tweets like once every 9 months and it's like "Hi. I'm hungry". if this is canonverse where humans know nations exists he gets caught liking romania fancams (he doesn't know likes are public) old man bulgaria u mean the world to me

2) what animal they remind me of: your drawing of him as a black bird is the first thing that comes to mind!! :O

3) my thoughts on their design/aesthetic alone: BABYGIRL his canon uniform is SNAZZY and i just,, like how plain he is ig :,) it suits him and it's a great contrast next to ro's design!! 10/10

4) physical headcanons: i think he's a foodie!! especially when he's sad, he gives off the vibes that he curls up on the sofa with a tub of pistachio ice cream and cries the night away.... idk if this counts as a physical headcanon but i think he's physically older than ppl think!! i don't have a concrete age for him but smth like 26-29! he has a bit of a baby face though bless him (and i'm just VERY soft for romania finding him pretty,,)

5) social headcanons: he def keeps to his social circle i think!! he has a decent number of friends buuut he probably hasn't made new ones in decades :,) i think people often overlook him and don't think much of him because of his more meek disposition around new people and not being very flashy!

6) psychological headcanons: HE'S SUCH AN EMOTIONAL GUY,, which is so sweet considering i think that a lot of these characters have grown tough skin from their old age but bulgaria is so baby... he is resilient ofc!! but he shows a lot of emotions!! he wears his heart on his sleeve you can read him so easily :,) i also live for bulgaria with a,, weird fractured sense of pride? he's insecure about a lot of things, but at the same time he's prideful and a bit egotistical at times in a naive unintentional way. i feel like he also idolizes people and concepts very easily!

7) ship(s) with them that I like or at least consider: he and romania are an on-and-off married couple made for each other!!! but but but you've made me think about things like ro/bul/hungary and ro/bul/greece and those r super fun too! :O and i have this weird rarepair of him and england :,) for personal and deeply emotional reasons i also need him and serbia to fuck

8) made-up connections with other characters that weren't in the canon (friends, enemies, whatever): he likes russia a lot! and if i dare push my yugotalia agenda real quick... he adooores macedonia!! ALSO his relationship with hungary is so underexplored!! they don't have the same feud that she and romania do, but i think (at least historically) they get on each other's nerves and there's been a lot of tension there (hatefuck threesome when?) england likes to vacation at his home and b annoying. he kinda hates turkey but they're also friends (in typical balkan fashion) & he and greece would be good buds!! skiing friends too :D

9) headcanons about their past: fella has been through a shit ton!!!! if u ever ask yourself "why is he like this" the answer is what 500 years of ottoman occupation does to a mf hgjfg... and i like the hc i mentioned in my fic of him trying to get ro to marry him in the late 1800s to early 1900s :) ALSO him and greece's feud during the byzantium era!! he was scary back then!! i also loooove it when he's depicted as having been older during the ottoman years and so feeling some sense of responsibility for the other countries around him :,)

10) content about them I'd like to see more of: aaah him during either of the bulgarian empires!! under ottoman rule!! more balkan war stuff!! historical human aus!! i love him being pathetic but i want to see him angry and happy and powerful and in love and heartbroken and 🥺 also i. can never have enough vampire aus im weak

1) I'd like to doodle my MC so I was wondering if you know what sort of customization we can have for our Angel? I think I read in the stickied post that they're missing one wing. If I saw correctly the angel in your beautiful banner has a halo. Does our MC has one as well, then? And is it a normal halo (like most people would imagine) or is it possible to headcanon a few custom designs? (for example: Exusiai's E2 art from Arknights as a more unique design for a halo)

Any restrictions you'd say we should be mindful of when designing? Certain clothes, unavailable hair/eye colors (is heterochromia possible?), colors of wings/halo, scars etc.

2) everyone is in love with MC's dearest brother, rightfully so, but I'm curious about the ROs. Could you tell us common tropes they would fall under? Maybe some short facts about each of them?

MC Customization:

Hair -

Length - bald, short, medium, long

Type - pretty much all the types that there are

Color - from list or custom color option

Eyes - 

Heterochromia option (now that you’ve mentioned it 😊)

Color - from a list, but will contain the whole color range. The type will open up unique dialogue/flavor text

Skin - 

Natural tones

No scars (plays a role in the story and has reasoning behind it)

Height - 

Lowest is 5 ft and under

Highest is 7′2″

Clothing - 

Start out in a white suit of armor

Or, start out in a white and gold scholar uniform with a skirt or long pants

At a certain point, MC will have the opportunity to change out of the starting attire for something else. There'll be a fair amount of variety, ranging from fantasy to modern styles

Halo & Wing - 

Missing their left wing. There isn’t a mark or anything on the left side, either.

Color for both - from list or custom color option

Style for halo - from list or custom style option

It would be cruel of me to force players to have a simple halo style. I myself LOVE unique halo designs such as the one you mentioned

MC will also be able to summon and de-summon their halo and wings for incognito purposes

If you’ve noticed from the banner art, MC and Daemin have branches of wings that branch out from the main limb.

(The Angel in the banner is another MC of mine that I drew for artistic purposes. In the story, MC won’t be locked in to look like the one in the banner) 

At the start of the story, Daemin and MC only have one base wing with no branches. The more essence they have, however, increases the amount of wings branching out from the main limb. So in the banner they both have three wings worth of essence.

Essence

Color - from a list, but will contain the whole color range. Different colors will open up unique dialogue/flavor text.

Red, pink, orange, yellow, and white are common for Holy beings

Grey is common for both Holy and Unholy

Green, blue, purple, brown, and black are rare for Holy beings

Daemin’s essence color is red :)

When an Etherian (Holy and Unholy) uses essence, it looks sort of like this:

The area they are either transferring or concentrating their essence will glow the color that it is. If two individual’s essence colors are different in color, transferring essence will create a cool little mixture of the two colors. :D 

For combat, summoned weapons will be the color of the essence.

Elemental essence manipulation is the same, so liquids, shards, air/mist, and fire will be the same color as the essence.

Transformation utilizes essence, so transformed MCs will have accents, a glow, or a shadowy aura surrounding them. Transformation makes them look more otherworldly.

This is an example of one of my personal views of the MC, whos transformation is humanoid with an ethereal . This is how I visualize accents, too.

(This is just my view of the MC. Players are free to visualize their MC however they wish for transformations)

There are three main types for transformation: 

Humanoid - Purely bipedal, looks the most human-like

Hybrid - Imagine something like a centaur, for example. Humanoid upper-body and an animal lower body.

Beastial - Looks much like an animal. Quadrupedal. 

And the sub-types for these three breaks into two options: enigmatic or eldritch. Enigmatic basically means that the MC has a ethereal, calm-looking appearance. Eldritch is terrifying and aggressive looking. 

How much essence they’ve obtained determines the height difference. One wing and they remain the height they were regularly. For each additional branch of wing, their height increases about a foot or so, when in transformation.

Note: Still conceptualizing and deciding what I want to do for transformations, but I think these are the key factors I’m sticking with for now ^.^

Comprehensible veil and natural appearance - 

The veil and natural appearance looks the same for Etherians. However, mortals are able to see a VERY clear difference.

For example:

This is what mortals would see if a Holy or Unholy did not have the veil. The veil Etherians cast upon themselves allows mortals to see an Etherian for how they already view themselves as—humanoid with wings and a halo or horns (if they have those summoned).

So if MC and Daemin hear people screaming bloody murder and running away from them when nothing is happening, they might not have their veil up. They can sense whether or not the veil is on them, but they themselves cannot see it.

I can go more in depth about transformation and these two appearances if needed.

Facts about the ROs:

I’m not gonna tell who is which, but each character is centered around one of the seven deadly sins. ;D

Crych

Trope/themes of their path - Anger born of worry/love

They’d be a computer junkie if they had immediate access to a computer and life’s worries didn’t get in the way. So much information in one place, and such a complex machine!

Didn’t realize this until my friends tried pronouncing their name, but their name is pronounced “crit-ch” and not “cry-ch.”

I’ve mentioned in the tid-bit from this post that they are from a place where individuals choose their names based on sounds they feel most attuned to.

The idea of Crych having eyespots on their ears is something I borrowed from another story I was working on back in 2019, but never finished.

Crych doesn’t have four ears or looks animalistic like this, but the idea of their ears perking up to reveal eyespots is kind of like the top right image. Difference is the eyespots are on the inner fur of their ears instead of on the sides.

Yonas/Yoelle Cava’dren

Trope/themes of their path - Shared suffering, beneath the smile lies something more.

every player is genuinely such a sweet person. like i cannot tell you enough how great they are. theyre thoughtful and they try to learn, and listen if theyve been corrected. they're all so nice to be around. a rly great bunch.

they have lore! it's not super intense, just every few streams or so they do in character stuff. and they let us know beforehand and usually will have lore in the title. and if you're behind on lore, they have a lore document summarizing events so far for people who've missed things! in addition, the events of the christmas arc are on youtube :)

frostbyte freeman's monologues are legitimately a reason you should watch this, mans improvises dramatic ass speeches and heartfelt, real, and raw character arcs and THEN goes on twitter and posts screenshots of a build hes made as part of a character beat and leaves us an emotional playlist with a title in italian

they're all pretty young! the streamers range in age from 13 year old apden to 23 year old mysticat. it's honestly really cool to be watching creators who are younger than me (and who are peers in age with many of my friends) because it feels kind of like I am supporting a younger sibling sometimes. makes me proud. and especially with that in mind, their maturity is astonishing - apden in particular was one of the creators at the forefront of calling out a creator who was scamming and sexually harassing people.

they are Queer !! that I know of there are 4 members who use any pronouns, two gay people, and two bisexuals!

they are funny! frost's weird ass dynamics with literally everyone else make me laugh out loud, mysty has such great comedic timing, deadhawk and longjaws have a really cozy and fun dynamic that fills me with joy, they're all so much fun. wolfeei showing up to a presidential campaign debate wearing a shirtless buff skin. keegan deciding that his detective uniform is a maid dress. bigman walking up to the mic and saying "free my mans he ain't do nothing wrong" in response to wrongfully incarcerated animagician asking which candidates would free him. jack notsouls being a flower loving catboy who thinks that giving flowers to the ominous void rift in the sky is a good idea

the community is really great! we're mostly based on twitter where the creators tend to hang out but its really great being able to easily interact with them and each other, like we have a groupchat there and a discord server! it's a lot of fun and just about everyone in the community is wonderful. it's an interesting mishmash of people from the creators' stream chats/fanbases pre-smp, irl friends, online friends, and people who came because they saw frost's "how the blue bats won mcc 9" video and liked his content and found future that way

they appreciate artists SO much. a bunch of them have fanart reels with credits on their streams, they reply to just about everything, they get so happy to see art you have no idea. they have the custom pictures in item frames plugin on the server so they can hang fanart! they have art by me and by many of my friends on the walls of the government building! hell j even wrote a fic and linked it on twitter and the guy I wrote it about read and approved it! and to top it all off they Commissioned Me to make them their official group picture, like! that's supporting artists baby!!!

you want interesting character designs? they have two frogs, a cat, a penguin, a bird, a tedsattic, an ironstarr, and a literal cookie. rinnly wears a box on their head. dec is a goth. pixelcraftian is a funny little man. john needs a life is a jojo cosplayer. bigman is a snowman. bigman is also the president. the penguin is his secretary of defense.

a handful of them are current or former MCC testers, many of whom met or became testers because they were runner-up mcc 10 applicants, and dec is a noxcrew artist! theyve also participated in smaller events in the community, or even bigger ones, like minecraft ultimate! the upcoming retro rivals event has 4 future smp members on team space invaders (the fact that they didnt put pixelcraftian, the man whose brand is Loving Mario, on the mario team is a crime).

Bakugou's parents are fashion designers, we don't know if they have their own line or who they work for. That's not the point. What is the point here is can I request a scenario where his crush wears said brand and he recognizes it? It suits them well. Maybe his mom meets the reader while they're wearing it. She immediately catches on. "oh, so that's why you're suddenly interested in mine and your father's work, huh?"

○ after class when you’re just hanging out with the girls Momo makes an offhand comment about how you seemed to always be wearing something from that one brand

○ you tell her that it was one of your favorite brands and you really like their clothes since they were so nice yet comfy 

○ and Bakugo just so happens to overhear your conversation and your praises for his parent’s designs

○ he’s kinda proud, honestly. even if he doesn’t have that good of a relationship with his parents it still makes him happy to know that something his crush liked so much was created by someone so close to him 

○ so that weekend he asks his parents whether he could take a tour of her office or something to see their shit without really providing an explanation, so of course they get a little curious 

○ but they’re ecstatic at the fact that their son was finally interested in their work nonetheless, so they do in fact show him around that weekend

○ and when he sees one of the sweatshirts from Mitsuki’s most recent collection just laying around in the office that he thinks would look good on you he just grabs it to give to you. doesn’t even ask, but since Katsuki looked like he really wanted it they would just let him keep it

○ it’s unisex, so they weren’t necesscarily suspicious as to why he would want the sweatshirt, but it definitely made them amused since it didn’t really match his aesthetic of black tshirts

○ when he gets back to school he just drops it off in front of your room, hastily scribbling a note to put on it so you would know who had put it there

○ and you burst into his room shortly after when the rest of the bakusquad are in there after you find the gift

 “Bakugo, I can’t possibly accept this, it’s worth way too much money,” you gasp, slightly out of breath from running all the way to his room. 

 “Wait Y/N, don’t tell me that’s the limited edition piece from Mitsuki’s new collection launch last week! That thing’s like almost a hundred dollars, there’s no way Bakugo got you that.” Mina’s eyes widen at the fabric you currently had bunched in your hands.

 “Well I got it for free, so either you stop bitchin’ and keep it or chuck it ‘cause I would never wear that shit,” Bakugo grumbles, not even looking at you.

 You flip the soft fabric over, inspecting the tag carefully. “This is real though,” you say, “ /please/ don’t tell me you stole it.”

 “The fuck? Of course not,” he retorts, offended. “Look, don't worry about it, okay? Stop asking so many fuckin’ questions and just accept it.”

 So you do, thanking him profusely before leaving his room quickly, not wanting to disturb the group.

 “Simp,” Kaminari mutters under his breath after you leave. “Bakugo’s so whipped for Y/N.”

 It takes all of them and Kirishima knocking Bakugo out to stop him from killing the electric teen.

○ it’s hands down your favorite piece of clothing that you owned, wearing it all the time and taking care to keep it clean and looking new

○ and when Bakugo falls sick for a few days and needed someone to deliver work to his house, the rest of your class immediately volunteer you for the job

○ so you go back to the dorms to clean up and make yourself a little more presentable, changing out of your sweaty gym uniform, taking a quick shower to freshen up before slipping into the comfy sweatshirt that fell over you frame just right

○ when Mitsuki opens the door to see you standing at the door wearing the exact same sweatshirt she knew Katsuki took from him, and she immediately connects the dots

○ you introduce yourself politely, explaining to her that you were there to deliver his work and she eagerly ushers you into their house, welcoming you warmly

 “Y/N, right? That’s a nice sweatshirt you’re wearing,” she says as you sit in the living room, waiting for the younger Bakugo to come down from his room.

 “T-thank you! It’s actually from my favorite brand. I just love their designs so much,” you gush, happy to find someone who could also appreciate your taste in fashion. “Actually, Bakugo was kind enough to get me this sweatshirt. It’s quite hard to come by since it’s limited edition.”

 “Oh, are you and Katsuki close? I can’t imagine that selfish brat giving presents to anyone,” Mitsuki says, wanting to pry more information about her son from you.

 ○ loud stomping from the stars breaks yours focus before you can answer though, and the blonde boy just snatches the work from your hands roughy, not even thanking you before saying that you could go now

○ but his mom tells you to hold on, hurrying to her room to grab something she wanted to give you

○ so you wait, sitting there with Bakugo in an awkward silence as you wait for her to return

○ she comes back with a bag of clothes, stuffing them into your hands

○ “These should fit you. Take them as a sign of thanks for taking care of Katsuki all the time,” she says with a wink, patting your head affectionately 

○ and your eyes widen when you take a peek in the bag and realize it’s all from your favorite designer

○ “I-I can’t possibly accept all of this, Bakugo-san, it’s too much.” 

○ “It’s alright, just call me Mitsuki! Bakugo-san makes me feel old.” 

○ when you connect the dots and realize that she’s that Mitsuki you brain short circuits a little at the realization that your idol was in front of you

○ apologizing for not noticing who she was earlier, and telling her how much you admired her work

○ she waves it off, telling you that she was just glad you liked her designs that that you should come by to visit again soon

○ when you get back to the dorms, you notice that there’s a little note slipped in between the clothes that you hadn’t seen earlier

○ “I’m pretty sure Katsuki has a crush on you, and I’ll leave him in your care from now on! Let me know if he ever treats you badly alright? I’ll beat him up for you ;)”

Hey hey!! I'm feeling great, I've had a headache since the pillow said "fuck you" and somehow got messed up, but I took a pill and had a drink, and ow I'm better:D Thank youu!! I'm not sure I will, since my mom is going to a relative's birthday and im gonna stay at home alone, so might as well just make myself grilled cheese while watching Netflix. But, if i were at school right now, we'd definitely have a festival (or as close as we can get to a festival, considering the school's budget) or something similar to that, hehe. The school really made a huge deal out of holidays. I really miss it sometimes, cuz it never feels like a holiday at home, even during new years:/

Ohh, I meant like, creating original characters and shoving them all into the HQ universe and making it a team. Lemme show you the least of the team members xD

We're still working on the staff and the leftover characters' designs. I made school and volleyball uniform, but they dont look great so I'll probably work on them more!!! Me, Kuro & Liza (the friend) are making it, with Kuro being the main artist and Liza creating the characters. I'm responsible for the stuff. It's pretty fun. Hahah, sorry for rambling like that, it's like a personal passion project, and it's the only productive thing I can do while having fun, so I'm very happy about it~

I really love noodles♡ anything related to noodles is my favorite. If only you'd see me freaking out when I see spaghetti on our school menu XD I wish we got to make noodle soup more often. I love it so much😭

I only prefer rice when it's really spicy. I love spicy stuff a lot, and plain rice/rice soup feels really weird and my picky ass doesnt like it. I also love Pilaf (we call it plov here), it's not always spicy but it still tastes good😝

Oh, I think you should try it! It's really good, kind of plain but still nice. I'm really picky about my tea and I havent drunk any good tea in ages, but I remember a really nice cafe that served PERFECT green tea. I miss it😩 It was when I went on a school event, we got to roam around the city (with the teachers of course, because most have no idea where they are haha), and I visited that cafe, and I absolutely loved everything about it.

OH YEAH, but pizzas are really thin and get eaten fast, while quiches and pies are more fulfilling XD that's just me probs but still~

Ahhh, my parrot's name was Molly! Though only after her death I realised that it was indeed a "he", which was awkward. But the shopkeeper said it's a girl, and we were uneducated, so it's not our fault XD it was the cutest, tbh. It loved running after my pens when we played on the table. Sadly, my disgrace of a father kept reopening the front door in winter and overfeeding it when I wasn't home, so the parrot passed away:( one more reason to hate the old man, haha~ dont worry, I'm over it :D

The stories weren't the best. There were children's turkish books, a few kazakh classics, a Harry Potter book (I hadnt gotten a chance to read or watch them, but after the Rowling situation I kind of lost any wish to somehow associate with the books) and honestly the Russian ones were the only readable ones:D (also, what little cheaters they are XD tbh our guys probably would do the same)

Pokémon Sword and Shield Review

So...I've taken some time to fully play Pokémon Shield. Now, I know this is pretty delayed, and I got the double pack so I wanted to play Sword first to see if how I felt was really accurate or if I was being too harsh. That said, let's talk about my experience with the Galar Region.

Initial Impressions

Overall, I was excited to play Shield at first. Everything was bright and exciting and the characters were easy to recognize and not overly generic.

The first few hours of this game, well it's a slow burn. And I do mean SLOW. Even with the text set to Fast and me taking things at my own pace it took me at least a good couple hours to reach the Wild Area. Furthermore, this game has an infernal amount of handholding, even when given the option to say "I know all this already" it still gives a brief explaination for almost anything and STILL makes you sit ALL THE WAY THROUGH the catch tutorial.

It's 2019 and older players still don't get the option to skip this. Come on GameFreak.

That said, the longer I played the more I began to notice...how should I put this? Blatant laziness?

The Wild Area

Now, the CONCEPT of the Wild Area in theory is amazing. It's still not too bad as is, but there are definitely flaws. For starters, the same tree has been copy pasted all over the place to make up 90% of the foliage.

More than that, though, despite the Wild Area having a good selection of Pokémon and a fairly varietied environment (desert, lakes, forest) it feels oddly...empty. There are no real secrets to speak of, no hidden areas, no easily missed items. Everything is all right out there to see and spread pretty far apart. I don't know if it's a lack of Trainers or the fact that I don't have an Online membership so I played alone, but the Wild Area feels like it just needs something MORE.

Dynamax Raid Battles, even when done alone, are fairly fun and sometimes challenging with the turn limit. Radiant AI Trainers spawn in to assist you if you're playing alone so there's no worries about having to take one on with just one Pokémon.

Camping, which can be done anywhere but is introduced to the player here, is an absolute treat. Have YOU played fetch with a unicorn? I have, and I love it. The wide variety of curries you can make with different ingredients is nice, and your Pokémon even get EXP boosts if you play with and feed them while camping.

The Pokémon

Honestly, I'm really not impressed. The Galar Dex of new Pokémon feels painfully small, so much so that playing Pokémon GO and catching a few Unova Pokémon made me yearn for the days when we used to get regions completely FULL of new Pokémon. Remember when you had to wait until AFTER the main game to start catching Pokémon from past gens? I...well, this might be an unpopular opinion, but I LIKED that.

That said, using a sparse selection of Galar Pokémon and Galar Regional Variants on my team definitely made the Gym Challenge more difficult. I picked Scorbunny, because Fire Types, and honestly didn't really care for it or its evolutions at first. Cinderace has really grown on me though and I like Pyro Ball as a move. It's flashy and powerful and that suits me just fine. Most of the new Pokémon's DESIGNS were good and I liked them, there just really weren't ENOUGH of them.

I'm fairly pleased with the regional variants as well. It was difficult to adjust to Ponyta and Rapidash being Psychic Type, but I really liked having them on my team. At the same time...Meowth not evolving into a Persian doesn't really sit right with me.

I'm all for branch evolutions, but Perrserker honestly just looks more like a giant Galar Meowth than anything. I played this with only the info given in the few scattered trailers I'd seen, so I was genuinely excited to see what a Galarian Persian would look like only to end up with Perrserker. The Typing is phenominal, and I think it's great to see a Steel Type Meowth for a change, but I just don't like where they went with it. Eh. Ces't la vie, moving on.

The Story

It's weak. Straight up, the story in this game is poor. There were so many directions they could have gone. I really liked the idea of Rose being this charismatic chairman hype man for the League and being the bad guy. I saw it coming, but it was a nice change to see just based on his personality. Still, it feels rushed. His motivations are really one dimensional and glossed over. Like, "Oh, here's the bad guy. Go get him." It worked in Gen 1 because Giovanni was a MOBSTER. He was MEANT to be a bad guy straight to the core in general, but Rose just doesn't have that vibe.

Not only that, but the "Bad League Members" are kinda meh. That feels REALLY lazy. They didn't even really get a decent uniform change when they started taking on the name Macro Cosmos in Rose Tower. They got black glasses. That's it. Just that. The fight with Eternatus feels painfully rushed and shoehorned in too, almost like they thought "Oh no, we need to give them a big nasty boss to fight! Let's just throw a random monster at them and say Rose summoned it. Seems like a solid plan."

I DID like the after story with Piers though. It really solidifies that older brother sort of nature with him, even if he tries to hide it most of the time.

The Characters

I liked Hop. As a character he's really fun and I like how they gave him this over excited very grand gestured sort of personality. He's really just happy to be ANYWHERE as long as it's with his Pokémon and you. His admiration for his big bro might come off strong and make him seem a little flat at first, but he's overall portrayed as a good kid and I like him.

Leon on the other hand...well I hated him for most of the game. His design is great and he looks fabulous, but he just has the most cocky, obnoxious, pandering personality 90% of the time. Still, I have to give credit where credit is due and recognize that he IS actually a multifaceted character. He showboats not just because he's too confident but also to give the crowd a show and put people at ease in times of danger. Not only that, but his recognition of his little brother's accomplishments and his graceful acceptance of defeat when you beat him reveals a really well written character.

I don't DISlike Sonia, and I have no problem with Prof. Magnolia sitting on the sidelines, but she can be a little...irritating at times with the way she speaks about and to people. The Gym Leaders, aside from Piers, feel a little...light.

I mean, most Gym Leaders don't have detailed backstories, but these ones feel paper thin personality wise as well. I had to look at the official GUIDE just to be sure what the relationship between Melony and Gordie even WAS because you only seem him in her Special League Card in Shield and that tells you nothing about him. The only real leaders that stood out to me were Piers and Raihan, and while I was iffy about his design at first I LOVE Raihan. He has so much more personality and ferocity than any of the other leaders. And the social commentary about him needing to constantly take and post a selfie, even after losing, is a nice touch.

The Galar Region

Is very linear. Like, VERY linear. Even when you take a branching path it either loops back around or gives you a free ride to wherever you have to backtrack to. I hope you like Hammerlocke, cuz you're gonna be visiting there several times.

I know that the region is based off the UK, and maybe my Americanized idea of cities is different (idk, I've never been to the UK), but a lot of the towns in this game feel really small. Like, almost smaller than some of the towns in Hoenn small. Maybe it's a lack of significant interactable buildings, but despite many of them having multiple floors you typically can only access one and that's kind of a disappointment. The hotel in Wyndon won't even let you get in the elevator, and while I get that Alola also did that, it's kind of jarring when the hotel in Motostoke WILL let you see other floors.

That said, I kind of expected more than ONE Wild Area. The one we DID get is fine, and I appreciate what it is and lets us do, but I honestly thought there would be multiple places to really explore outside the standard straight lines. Pokémon has never been a franchise to shy away from puzzles before so I expected this to not be any different. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

Moreover, many of the environment pieces are just UGLY. A lot of the ground textures are reused 3DS assets, and those copy pasted trees I mentioned earlier? Also 3DS assets. How do I know? They're pentagonal instead of round. In other words, they have five sides. Why? Because the 3DS hardware couldn't handle complex environmental shapes that well so they could get away with it, but now that we have nice round berry trees the contrast becomes painful. The Wild Area is so ugly the first time you see it is at NIGHT. They were so aware of what they did they hoped making it darker would hide the lazy flop instead of showing off how bad it was.

It isn't like they COULDN'T fix it either. Look at Ballonlea and Glimwood Tangle. They're absolutely beautiful and very well done. The modeling with them is fantastic and I love the glowing effects. They absolutely could've made the poorly done areas look amazing, but for some reason they didn't and the game suffers some as a result.

Other Thoughts

The Gym Challenges...they were not fun. Like, honestly some were ok. Herding Wooloo was easy, but they really didn't feel like anything I would expect from a Gym. The water puzzle in Nessa's Gym was fine, and I personally liked the spinning cup ride, but the rest just felt like agonizingly long padding because they couldn't come up with anything. Look at Circhester's challenge. It's a dowsing rod gauntlet where you have to avoid falling in pits in an artificial blizzard. It. is. SO. SLOW. That said, Spikemuth having just a Trainer gauntlet instead was kind of awkward. I reached the end and asked myself "Was that it? Is this it? Is this all there is to Spikemuth? Just one giant alleyway and a Pokémon Center?"

Raihan's three trials of worthiness challenge? It was more difficult than the battle AGAINST RAIHAN. Speaking of, I beat Hop, Marnie, Bede, all the Gym Leaders, Rose, Oleana, and Leon on my first try every time. While it was more difficult with my specific Pokémon choices, it really wasn't much. And can I just say that the Gym Badges are kinda lame? I get what they were going for, but the designs of each piece could've been really unique and intricate and instead we got glorified stamps.

I liked a lot of the general features of the game. Camping, clothing shops, League Cards. I love designing League Cards, even if I'm the only one who's ever gonna see em. That said, the clothing choices were really narrow based on what we got in Sun and Moon. The variety of different items was pretty small, though I loved all the punk leather stuff but WOW IS IT EXPENSIVE. Like Lumiose Boutique expensive. AND WHY IS THERE NEVER A REDHEAD HAIR COLOR THAT ISN'T JUST AUBURN RED? There are actually A LOT of redheads with LIGHT RED hair (that's more a personal gripe than anything, I know).

A lot of the music felt almost like rehashes of older BGMs. Like, Postwick, Route 1, and Wedgehurst all sound like they have remixed Hoenn music. A lot of the other music tracks just don't feel fitting for the areas or for Pokémon games in general. I like parts of the Slumbering Weald music and I like the Gym Music, but the opening of Slumbering Weald feels awkward and like it doesn't fit a mysterious forest we're not allowed to be in.

I know I've complained a lot, but there were some things I genuinely liked. A lot of the Pokémon designs, place names, and other radiant decor and parts of the region are actually subtle and not so subtle references to cultural points of the UK. Skwovet and its evolution for example are a gray and red squirrel respectively and are a nod to invasive species, which is neat.

In Conclusion

Is Pokémon Sword and Shield amazing? No. Is it bad? No. Sword and Shield fall into that mediocre middle ground of being ok but nothing to write home about. Could I have done without them? Sure, they aren't some world ending imperitive must play. They're ok, and they make for a fine jumping on point and a fine little adventure if you have spare time. Have other mainline games done it better? Heck yeah, but that doesn't mean Sword and Shield haven't done a few good things too.

Overall, it sort of feels like GameFreak bit off more than they could chew, or were afraid to make changes because of unfamiliarity with the Switch's hardware and software limitations. Pokémon Let's Go had a lot more effort, but it also was much safer and had a much easier to work with art style to everything. Chibi proportions are a lot easier to fake than a more realistic counterpart. Things can be not perfect and it's less noticable than with more realistic proportions, and I think they were afraid to push back the deadline any further for the inevitable backlash despite that being what they likely needed. The DLC may change my mind, but as it stands, just the fact that they feel they can JUSTIFY their laziness with DLC packs really upsets me.

Noticing how I sat up straighter on the subway one morning due to a muscle relaxant injection. And how positively being pain-free affected my mood. So perhaps I'm sometimes just a reactive bitch because I'm in constant pain?

Making friends at choir practice. Singing Oh Happy Day (one of the very few songs in the repertoire I've actually heard of before).

My first yoga lesson in years. Wearing an appropriate outfit (swirly marble leggings, a long green cardigan and a big scarf); the smug feeling of being more balanced and flexible than the other ladies at quite a few asanas despite my long hiatus.

Fiery sunsets. Blue hour. The time of the day when the sky is still light blue in the southwest but there's already a dark night sky in the east.

Making ESL worksheets. Finding a very useful website with free PNG icons. I still kinda wanna be a school book designer when I grow up...

Thorough girl crush research on Michelle Zauner and Zoe Kravitz (they're both super cool and have pretty good bands and lots of tattoos). Nursing my growing obsession with South Korea after reading Crying in H-Mart (which made me cry on the subway). There even is a Munchies episode with Maangchi and Michelle Zauner.

Most characters in Superstore. I can't even decide who I like best.

More pink: lunch with the very gorgeous Anika (major hair envy) at Vegan Junk House Club (the perfect place to be for pink-appreciators like me), walking through sunny downtown, stoppping at Eataly and &otherstories. Coffee and matcha cheesecake at Gartensalon.

I survived my first MRT despite my claustrophobia. The images were really interesting! I love learning about what's inside of me - physically as well as mentally.

A cute comic. Happy Valentine's to me - again...

Learning all kinds of new English words all of a sudden. There are just so many. Caustic, baffling, indictment, to misconstrue, to efface, the very small difference between contraption and contraction, to pummel and to plummet. Related: two new kinds of tumors on my radar; saree cancer and squamous cell carcinoma (yes, the variety of things I find interesting is astounding).

Ya-Yah is back! She's such a talented masseuse.

Another case of reassessing something that made me super grumpy initially. In this case I'll have to spend the whole morning at school even though my class isn't there and it feels like a total waste of time. But then I thought... why not use that time for a creative project instead? So now I'm actually looking forward to it. Magic. I think this is called mental reframing and it works like a charm.

Vegan ramen at the new Takumi branch with Franzi (who I really don't see often enough).

Three compliments for my very elegant outfit (it was just the gemstone/marble turtleneck with paperbag trousers but I think my pencil updo must have made it look chic) / a compliment for my voice - worthy of voice acting, apparently. Not mad about that.

Innocent Blue Break juice. Yum.

Talking to more people at the choir. The soprano lady who welcomed me, Monika, and Peter - who turned out to be my neighbour. Getting the hang of some of the songs now that I've sang them once or twice. One was even stuck in my head for a few days!

Dark chocolate with candied orange peel (which is so weird because I used to hate orange flavour).

A date with myself. Massage, ramen noodles at SAM, shopping, Like Lovers Do at Kammerspiele (a very colourful play; I had fun even though it was very eccentric).

Using oven spray for the first time. I never knew how effective it was!

The letters my students had to write during social skills training. They wrote thank you letters to kids who make them feel good about themselves and "I wish you would..." letters to those who they're having a hard time with. I loved how deliberate most of them were!

J-Bone and A-Hole (Jonah and Amy finally starting to date #superstore)

Fresh pineapple. Mango. Strawberries. I love the day of the year when strawberries are finally available again.

Evening walks along the Isar Hochufer two nights in a row - first with Raphael, then with Sebastian. I'd never been there before. I loved the lock keeper house, the little chapel with the frogs swimming in the basin and the seemingly orthodox paintings; I discovered a sizeable garden gnome collection and a nest swing at the playground. Raphael gave me very late Christmas presents (two books and a tasting box of bean daals); and with Sebastian I ended up at FLEX.

Voice training. Hitting the high notes I thought I'd lost forever after a few hours.

Raclette and board game night with Margit, Dennis and Frank. Playing Beatsaber and an exit game.

Palindrome Day with my favourite number. 22-2-22 <3

A fun evening at Augustiner with some colleagues. Meeting Nick, a former student with whom I played beer pong a few days later.

Lying down in my own bed after a horrible evening and a taxi ride.

Making pancakes with Frank. Sitting on the sofa, reading to each other from a book about 60's song lyrics without any rythm or tune; trying to guess the songs.
