"Buu?"*
"What? No, pal, that's not... Listen, your daddy just caught a little too much moonlight last night, he'll be back with you in no time, I promise. Also excuse you, your dad stole this sweater from me first."
*"Did you turn my dad into a cat and stole his sweater because I tried to eat the spiky flowers from your hat? Do I have to go on a revenge quest to grow big and strong and one day break the curse and avenge him?! >n<"

So I never realized that Astarion's cantrip ability comes from being an Elf actually, I always thought it was from being a Rogue.
The dndbeyond page mentions that High Elves tend to have an affinity for magic, and use the Wizard spellcasting list and mechanics for it.
And while BG3 doesn't specify between Sun and Moon High Elves (of which Astarion is probably the later) the FR wiki mentions this about them:
It's not really talked about at all during the game, but Astarion definitely has at least this tiny bit of magical ability. Even more so if Arcane Trickster is chosen as his subclass later on.
Firebolt is his default cantrip, but it's default for everyone so I'd say it's up to interpretation if that's what he would have chosen. With his constant discussion about how much he loves the warmth of the sun, I feel like he probably would have taken firebolt, or at least maybe changed to it after he was turned.
He would have had this one singular magical ability with him for most of his life, both as an elf and as a vampire. Maybe he ignored it, maybe he relied on it, for self defense or maybe even comfort. Cantrips are the one thing you can almost always reach for, even when you've been disarmed.
There's a chance he might have had some further arcane knowledge in the past, but I feel like he most likely just didn't personally care to explore it. It might've not been worth his time as a magistrate. But, alternatively, he maybe 1) wasn't allowed to pursue it during his time under Cazador's influence, or 2) he actually did have some more magical affinity, but it was wiped out with the tadpole, as it was with Wyll.
Anyways, I feel like this can add a lot of fun extra context to his interactions with spellcaster Tavs or Gale!

Like minds and that! But yeeeeessss! Also, this would be a great incident that could result in big piblic reactions, so Megan becoming a big political figure the new governor of their state/mayor/running for president would be fascinating. Also I like Overlord as someone who is distinctly not redeemed and very evil and violent in a way that the kids have oy dealt with in Mandroid. Overlord is exactly how Prowl and other Autobots (and Decepticons) still see Megatron and the kids dealing with that.
Plus, Overlord is just charming enough to use the kids sincerely. Goodness, if he had Trepan (his teacher) as a carry-on?
(I have a minor interest in Overpan not gonna lie.)
Extra horrifying.
It would be it would be
Plus
Just having Megan around would be such a mindfuck because Overlord is actively dragging his fellow cybertronians through the mud and it'd be interesting to see how he plays the politics game
Because Overlord? From what I know? He will take basically any opportunity to stir some shit. We saw what happened with his deal in mtmte with Deathsaurus and Tarn after all. And. Well. That's quite a lot of what politics is like.
I see a serious opportunity here with Trepan making deals with select ex GHOST agents, because I've been thinking a lot these past few days about GHOST striking a deal with say Trepan in order to gain better knowledge on how mnemosurgery works and technology with Trepan (and thus Overlord here) in turn getting resources and influence in turn. After all. GHOST is a powerful organization.
I'm mostly seeing the possible Overpan dynamic here as a lot more equal than it was in IDW canon, a sort of bastard² situation I've seen pop up again and again in art and aus. It's a mutually beneficial arrangement that's just. So bad for everyone else.

Seeing Jason Spezza up there celebrating so hard with Dubas makes me extra emotional because it was just LAST YEAR that he was part of that team that fought so hard but ultimately lost to Tampa in Game 7. Now he's up there watching them succeed. It's such proud dad energy, and I'm so happy the team was able to share that moment with him this year.

Saw cool art IMMEDIATELY followed by that person rattling about the how 'bad the 2014 Thief gameplay is' and I'm sorry but that is the worst fucking take I've ever seen in my life.
I'm currently playing through the original trilogy and I won't be finishing the first two games because of how ass the controls are. Maybe it's just not for me and that's fine but that doesn't mean the entire game is bad. I'm so sick of this absolute garbage of an excuse not to give a game a chance because 9 out of 10 times they're not talking about the 'gameplay' and I don't think they are now because playing through Deadly Shadows literally made me go 'oh shit so that's where 2014 got it from' multiple times.
This goes for all videogames, stop being a dick. Stop being so unnecessarily aggressive in your opinion towards media because if you were a bit hit personally by me earlier calling the Thief 1 and 2 controls ass, that's my point, not fun is it? I've been saying this for YEARS but PLEASE just say 'I didn't like it' and keep it at that or slap it behind a read more or something. Just going 'it's bad it's bad' is not a review, feedback nor critique. People who love that thing don't wanna see it and to see it in a tag FOR that thing is worse. I go to that tag to find other people who like the same thing, not you ranting about how much you hate it.

thinking thoughts about some turtles
---
why yes i’ll elaborate, of course, because i wouldn’t be able to fit the commentary in tags like I usually would have done.
fucking 4th time typing this, is2g i’m just gonna bullet point this
- donnie in his 30s today would be a fucking BEAST, a whole force unto himself
- the little gremlin was probably head deep in Usenet, collecting information on whatever rabbit holes he’d nose around in and then everything within the proverbial 100 ft. radius.
- (I say Usenet because to me, the turtles (disambiguation) are elder millenials, born in the 80s, growing up in the 90s and it seems ‘right’, almost destiny adjacent for Donnie to have been born right at the time technology was going to grow and shift as much as it has between the mid-80s to now)
-he most definitely used his genius intellect to project potential tech applications and come up with Symmetra level “hard light”/Iron Man helmet-integrated HUD
- but scrounging for spare parts for computer application in the 90s was pretty scarce, marginally better when he and Raph started visiting the underground and black markets. so he made do with what he could get his little hands on. was he a heavy, clunky noisy mess? yes and Leo was so disappointed. (he eventually just tried to trim down what he would bring out on patrols)
- then one fateful night when Mikey lockpicked one of the corner magazine stands, he saw this sweater (twitter link) and OBVIOUSLY, DUH, WEAR the tech! but still! the tools and materials weren’t easily acquired
- then the 2000s started and OH BOY, lots of exciting things were beginning to happen: patents on 3D printers were expiring, the arduino project, and raspberry pi were starting to circulate (Donnie learned Italian just so he could keep up with the Arduino project when he first heard news of it), internet shopping was becoming more of a thing (how did Donnie pay for stuff? ethically... adjacent. I’m fully on the train that having been perusing Usenet and being a mutant in NYC has Donnie’s moral compass.... not gray but something ‘87 Leo would make PSA commercial break pep talks about; which is tl;dr Donnie WOULD download a car [and has, just to see if he could] )
- Then he saw Lexington become That™ in the “Future Tense” episode from Gargoyles scared him straight, he’s morally eggshell - pewter now
- April absolutely found a way to sneak the boys into a few NYFWs with her press pass just ‘cuz they wanted to see; Donnie took one look at Rick Owens and independently came up with his own take on ‘techwear’, and he’s been a menace in LEDs and neoprene ever since.
- he has a tech goggles problem, he is both the enabler and the addict

I’ve been reading more Eileen centric fics lately and I swear, every time Bloody Crow is the vague background villain that she’s hunting for the entire fic, he’s depicted and especially described as this unhinged serial killer type demon that leaves a trail of mutilated corpses in his wake and murders kids for fun and is the ultimate terror of Yharnam’s foggy nights that WILL hunt you for sport and bathe in your blood.
And I love it and eat it up every time, but I’m starting to get why I may seem a bit whacked in the head for obsessing over him as hard as as I do. I totally forget how much 90% of the fandom hates the guy for being so difficult and hurting Eileen and how they just see him as this monstrous thing because of that. Like yeah, I understand. Not everyone sees him as a scrimblo or whatever. There may be something wrong with me.
