To Eduardo Ducay
Mexico City, 29 April 1970
Dear Eduardo,
Many thanks for all the cuttings. They’ve given me a good idea of what’s going on with the film in Spain. And your updates about the response from the audience completed the report. I’m very happy for you. You had more faith in the outcome than I did. I thought, and I still do, that such a ‘disagreeable’ film would never be a success. It’s a mystery.
I loved Begoña Ducay’s drawing. Such a shame to give a Basque name to such a lovely little girl. But the name does not the woman make, and I hope and trust her Aragonese blood will overcome that folly. Send her kisses from me. I remember seeing her at the studio, but I didn’t realize she’d seen me filming. Her drawing is better than a work photo and I’m going to keep it.
I finally heard, first from Favre Le Bret and then from you, about the solution to screening the film at Cannes. So, everything is sorted out and infamy will not be mine. When you write, could you tell me about that Cannes-ian screening? Will it be the Spanish copy? Who did the French subtitles? If they’re not done well, it could ruin the film. It’s very presumptuous of Catherine, given the small percentage her character has of the dialogue, to have wanted the ENTIRE film dubbed into French.
I’m still completely dolce far niente over here, and ready to remain so until the end of days.
My warm regards to the wonderful Joaquín. And most affectionate greetings to Mercedes.
More warm regards for you,
Buñuel
[PS] Are either of you going to Cannes? We could at least try to get them to give Tristana the Luis Buñuel prize. Speak to Muñoz Suay, he has clout.

CAUSA DLXLVI

💞 for Louise Hammond!!
Thanks for playing @the-radio-star !!
I'll pop by your inbox to drop some lovely questions afterwards but I just wanted to know that your curiosity and consideration is deeply appreciated and it really makes my day to answer your asks 💖
🌺 I am manifesting you good tidings and happy holidays🌺
P.S. These are just my favourite dynamics. There are others that I really enjoy but these are my top five. Also, Lou and Alex's relationship is obviously up there but I wanted it to be mostly platonic interactions.
Louise Hammond: My Five Favourite Dynamics
Lou and Armando Muñoz (Darwin)
At first glance, no one would suspect a friendship between them, being the oldest and youngest of the group respectively, but they have a lot of stuff in common.
They are both very protective of their friends and their wellbeing, both have defensive mutations that usually put them on the frontlines of battle and they both share a fondness for classic rock and blues.
They first meet in New York City when Erik Lehnsherr and Charles Xavier recruit them for the X-Force. At the time, Lou is attending the Columbia University while Darwin is working as a taxi driver from the Bronx.
They share the ride back to the CIA headquarters in Washington and it is only after Lou started bopping her head to "Mary Lou" by Young Jessie that Darwin trusted her with the radio.
They were the last of the mutant recruits to arrive and they both got along easily with the others, inserting themselves into the conversation with a friendly ease.
After working together, they start to develop a sibling relationship with Lou seeing him as an older brother figure while he considered her a sort of baby sister.
Lou and Johanna "Jo" Ferguson (Blooper)
Jo was the first mutant that Lou had ever met.
When they bumped into each other in Portland, Maine, Lou had been by herself for a few weeks. She was dirty and bleeding, dressed only in a thin nightgown and stealing food from the local restaurants.
She attempted to steal from Jo's uncle but Jo caught her and chased after her. Jo cornered Lou near the edge of the port when the girl threw up a shield between them, revealing herself to be a mutant too.
Jo talked her down, coaxed her out of the shield and brought her back to her parents her agreed to bring Lou with them on their passage to Nova Scotia and to shelter her.
Sometime in the future, Lou and Jo get separated from Jo's mother and uncle and are forced on the run, fending for themselves. Because of this, they developed a strong bond where they looked out for each other, risking themselves for each other.
Jo was everything to Lou for those few years.
Her best friend. Her first crush. Her first kiss.
They weren't together but they were, and they were everything.
Jo was the tough one, the one who picked them up when they were bruised and scared, the one who took the lead when they didn't know where to go. She'd kick Lou's ass and than nurse her back to health.
Despite the fact that Lou was made out of steel, Jo was her shield for those first few years.
Lou and Sean Cassidy (Banshee)
When Lou realized that she had gone through a portal back in time, she knew that there was a possibility of bumping into someone with a connection to her old life, her past life.
Meeting Sean Cassidy and seeing his mutation in action, it wasn't hard for her to put the pieces together. That he was the grandfather of her best friend, Casey - it really shouldn't have been that surprising.
They had the same friendly smile and bright blue eyes. She could see where Casey got the auburn in her hair from. But Casey was shy, stuttering over her words and not daring to speak above a whisper. She was soft and tender.
Sean, on the other hand, was lively, not afraid to crack a joke or send a flirtatious wink. He wasn't afraid to shoot his shot, even if it chanced a bruised ego or arm (depending on how forward he was being).
Above all, Sean wasn't afraid to have fun. He would dance with her without hesitation, sweeping her around the floor and twirling her so hard that she saw stars. He cranked up the volume on the car radio during their weekly trips to the grocery store and sang along out of tune (He might have the lungs but Casey was definitely the only one who could hold a tune).
Safe to say, they got along like a house on fire.
Lou and Logan Howlett (Wolverine)
The night Lou met the legendary Wolverine was the night she jumped through Jo's portal and landed in 1960. They only interacted briefly but it was enough to leave an impression.
While they were herding the others onto the X-Men's hovercraft, they stood at the ready, prepared to face off against the Sentinels.
-
Lou shoved Casey after him before turning around, joining Wolverine. She started tugging at the gloves that covered her hands, the older man shooting her a glare as he snapped, “Get inside, kid!”
Lou shook her head and raised her hands in front of her, flexing her fingers. “I can hold them off until they start the engine.”
“Oh yeah? How’re you going to go about that?” he lifted his brows at her mockingly.
She smirked before turning forward. “Better than you, I’d say.”
She thrusted her hands forward, emitting a glowing blue pulse from her palms. With the sudden light, Wolverine could see what hid beneath her gloves. The girl’s entire hand was made of a metallic substance that made his stomach twinge. It was hauntingly familiar, and he remembered another young mutant, lost early in the wall with a similar ability.
A callous hand wrapped around her arm and Lou jumped. Wolverine nodded down at her, reluctantly impressed.
“Yeah, yeah, you proved me wrong, kid.
-
After Wolverine is sent back to 1973 by Kitty Pryde, it had been officially over a decade since Lou last saw him. She had almost forgotten entirely that she didn't belong in the past, not really.
Seeing him, standing in the foyer of the mansion, insisting that he was from the future, it was like she had been living in a dream and was abruptly woken up.
As they work together with Hank and Charles to stop Raven from assassinating Trask, Lou and Logan talk. Being the only two who actually lived in the future, they have an understanding that no one else does: the future cannot come to pass.
Under any circumstances.
Logan does tell her about Jo and Casey. About how Jo fell into a six-month coma after Lou went through the portal, her body needing time to recover from such a feat. They rendezvoused with Magneto, who at the time was the last survivor of Genosha. The Professor had been working with Jo to strengthen her powers and durability.
When Charles gets his telepathy back, he reveals to Lou privately that Logan had thought she was dead after she jumped through the portal and had felt guilty for not fighting harder to get her back onto the hovercraft.
After the confrontation between Magneto and Raven and Logan disappeared, Lou promised that she would find him again and bring him back to the X-Men, back to his family, where he belonged.
Lou and Raven Darkholme (Mystique)
After Angel left the X-Force and joined forces with the Hellfire Club, Raven and Lou were the only female mutants of the X-Force. It was an unspoken thing that they stuck together, hanging out in the the mansion when they weren't training. It wasn't like it was hard either.
Lou genuinely liked Raven and understood her in a way that she didn't think that Erik or Charles did. Lou knew what it was to hide her mutation, her true self, the self that was sharp and hard and not at all pretty. She knew what it was like to hide behind an illusion because she was afraid what people would think.
They were freaks, with blue skin and metal limbs.
They made quite a pair.
They also had souls that felt so old but grappled with the innocence of their youth.
The first day that the X-Force moved in the Mansion, Raven tugged Lou up to her room and rummaged through her closet, holding nice dresses and frocks up to the other girl to try on.
They fixed each other's lipstick and shared makeup, sneaking out to the local pub that Raven and Charles usually frequented when training would stress them out and they just needed to be free.
They had little dance parties in the music room and would drag the boys to join them, with Raven dragging Hank into the corner to sway with him quietly while Lou twisted and twirled with Sean and Darwin while Alex brooded in the doorway, volunteering himself to keep lookout for 'Mom and Dad', as the two girls referred to them behind giggles.
Even after Raven left with Erik and the new Brotherhood following the crisis in Cuba, Lou didn't hold it against her. In the years following as their friends were conscripted to the war in Vietnam and Trask Industries started hunting down fellow mutants, Lou and Raven would meet again, both agreeing that they couldn't stand aside and do nothing.

Summary: An SGA/SG-1 AU that spins off from the Ori arc that runs through Seasons Nine and Ten of SG-1 by changing one simple thing: the Ori don't lose. Earth is the last significant planet to fall in the Milky Way, but fall it does. Hard.
After Earth's fall, a large resistance movement was active, utilizing the Daedalus, the only surviving SGC carrier, as it's main instrument. Running raids in the Milky Way and bringing refugees and supplies to Atlantis, the Daedalus was the only lifeline between the two galaxies. Eventually her luck ran out and she was nearly destroyed by an Ori armada; after limping back to Atlantis, she is no longer flight-worthy and Atlantis is finally truly alone.
Over in Pegasus, Atlantis was first a long-distance witness and then a rear echelon for the escalating fight with the Ori over the Milky Way galaxy before becoming the final retreat for those who survived. Cut off from Earth and forced to revert to its (Season One) status as isolated outpost responsible for its own needs, Atlantis still has the responsibilities it has assumed in Pegasus -- defeating the Wraith and protecting those who can't help themselves -- while also awaiting the inevitable arrival of the Ori.
