okay so imagine a low magic fantasy setting, like Game of Thrones, where there's a war going on, but the king of one of the sides or factions has a magic mirror. A magic mirror that lets them talk with or even spy upon anyone who has a mirror that's had a magic rune carved into the frame.

Imagine how much this would tip the scale. The enemy has to communicate via letters sent by birds, or maybe human couriers. depending on the size of the countries, it could take months for messages to get back and forth from the front lines to the capitals. This is part of why some kings would go into war themselves, but the king with the magic mirror can lead his armies in real time from miles upon kilometers away.

We love a gentleman bastard, a dashing rogue doing heists and dodging the law! That said, this goes to some very dark places, so fair warning: it starts out with a guy selling orphans, that's a rough place to begin. I enjoyed myself throughout this one and I have no major complaints. The various nobles' names were hard to tell apart when they were all together in the thick of it, but I was so far in that I decided not to care and it didn't diminish my overall understanding. Comparisons between this and The Thousand Deaths of Ardor Benn are obvious: they're both quite lengthy, vaguely Rennaissance-era fantasy heists starring a clever antihero and his bestie(s). Between the two, I find Ardor Benn much more fun so if you only have room in your life for one, I recommend that one. But if you don't mind the darker and sadder tones of this One Last Job gone sideways and can't get enough debonair con men, this gets the job done.

Quilian is a perspective character in a story I've been working on for some time. It's a low magic fantasy setting, and the basic plot centers around the struggle of who will rebuild the nation after a bloody rebellion. Quilian's role is to work for the main antagonist of the story, as he's being... basically blackmailed and threatened. Pleasantly blackmailed and threatened, but still blackmailed and threatened.

TLDR: he has sword and is sad.

This is a mechanic I thought up about 3 years ago. But it was tied into some worldbuilding, which while cool, was beyond the purview of my work here. But here we are, I stripped the mana wastes (which you may recall was mentioned in my grey dragons a while back) which otherwise includes more random spell regen from the 'internal magic' casters and all spellcasting results in raw magic manifestations :)

The mana wastes are also where mana crystals would come from (from the magic seeping into the environment and crystalising which also causes the rest of the fuckery and a reason to enter the aforementioned low magic area. But once again, too much worldbuilding. But feel free to tell me if you want me to explore that concept here.

Water

We are aquatic beings. 70% water. Even molecules of water is in the air we breathe. Energy can conduct, possess, and move through liquid. Emulate its character in the liquid.

Example: praying over water, releasing negativity into water.

Channeling

Cool thing about being human is that we can channel different energies. Actors do it all the time. The way they use their bodies to channel another character's presence.

Possession from influence

Human beings get possessed everyday, they don't even know it. An inspiration can be a form of possession.

An influence of energy can embody itself inside of you, causing you to realize a level of consciousness by being in that state of mind from that energy.

It's beautiful.

Alcohol

Be good with yourself before you start drinking alcohol. You'll feel more free as you drink leaving you open to influence.

Alcohol opens you up to spiritual energies. Whatever spirits are around you (already) that influence you on a daily basis, will have easier access to your energetic being. It can be used to your advantage when working with spirits. I like to use alcohol for my rituals to open myself to the spirits I work with.

If a person is not aware then it can invite unwanted spirits, thoughts, memories.  Believe it or not. I don't care.

Low Energy/Effort Witchcraft

Are you perpetually busy? Never have any spoons? This might be the post for you. Note that not everything here may be considered low energy or low effort to everyone, and that's okay :)

Carry a crystal around based on what you need. I have a black tourmaline bracelet that absorbs negative vibes throughout the day. I stick it on a selenite slab when I get home to cleanse overnight, then rinse and repeat in the morning.

Put a bay leaf in your wallet to attract money. If you have time, draw a sigil or a $/£/€ on it.

Dedicate anything you drink to your deities if you have any. I dedicate water and black tea to everyone and my favourite raspberry tea to Hathor. Coffee is for Caim.

Enchant your pill case so you remember to take them on time. Enchant your pills to work efficiently. ("Anxiety begone. Ye be banished" on all of my anxiety pills ✌️)

Draw a sigil on your body wash bottle to remove bad vibes or carve a sigil in a bar of soap.

Enchant your moisturizer to repel the evil eye. I fucking love this one.

Incorporate colour magic into the socks you wear (Goths who wear hot pink socks, I'm looking at you).

Enchant your charger so it doesn't break and so you don't lose it. Enchant your phone too while you're at it.

Match those big ol jar candles to different intentions. Burn a cedar candle to cleanse/banish. Burn a cinnamon candle to draw in prosperity. Burn a citrus candle to uplift mood. This one is fantastic for broom closet witches.

Got a humidifier? Fill it up with moon water. You're welcome ;D

Politely ask the spirits of your plants to ward your space. Feed two birds with one scone this way.

Witchy social media. Scrolling on Tumblr and learning something new about witchcraft counts as witchcraft imo. Saving tarot spreads from Instagram for later counts too. Making Pinterest boards for literally anything also counts.

Keep a digital grimoire if doing it on paper costs too many spoons. I have used Google docs & drive in the past but I currently use Notion (You can copy and paste this way!)

If you still want a physical grimoire, print your stuff out and stick it in a binder or glue it in your journal. Boom. Physical grimoire

Listen to witchcraft related videos in the background while you do other tasks or chores in your home

Preparing a meal? Toss in spices that correspond with good health and drawing in positivity, or any other intention you have

Enchant your glasses to help you focus and "read between the lines" or see what wants to remain hidden (this one is a lifesaver at my job)
