While I’m spamming everyone anyway, and with the understanding that I’ve sort of run out of words again, I’m just going to mention that I had a lot of feelings about Zerxus’ decision to try and cleanse Vespin Chloras.

Like, immediately on the back of failing apocalyptically to redeem the Lord of the Hells. Immediately after selling his own soul and leaving Evandrin to take up the mace. Immediately after probably the single most trauma this man has ever experienced. In the instant aftermath of all of that.

He tries again. One more time. To redeem one more person.

Because he’s alone. Everyone’s down or dead or yelling at him. He’s damned, he’s transformed, he’s surrounded by bodies. He needs help. So he tries. The same action that damned him and damned the world. The same action Evandrin thought was beautiful.

And he tries it on Vespin Chloras. The man who, exactly the same as him, damned himself and damned the world. The wizard who woke the betrayer gods. The man who started the calamity.

The man who looked at him, just for a half a second as he emerged, with tormented understanding underneath the mask of monstrosity.

Zerxus saw that, that tiniest of hints, and reached out.

And in return, though he can only buy Vespin the tiniest of moments, so far gone, so far owned, Vespin immediately does everything in his power to buy them both time. Alters Zerxus’ contract, grants him until sunrise. Drops a timestop, lets Zerxus get everyone he can up, tells them where they need to go, throws himself as far away from them as possible before the damnation creeps back in.

Like, this man has been a screeching inhuman hell puppet the entire time we’ve seen him. The epitome of monstrousness. He sold himself and he sold the world. But he wasn’t evil. He was trying, in his own self-aggrandising, hubristic fashion, to do good. Much like, well, the Ring of Brass. He woke Asmodeus. He paid every possible price. He will never be free. He will never be sane. And he knows it. He will go down in history as Exandria’s greatest villain. The Lord of the Hells will never let him be forgotten. He is damned, as thoroughly as anyone can be damned.

And when he looked at Zerxus holding that mace, he felt understanding. And Zerxus, on the back of that tiniest hint of remaining humanity, reached out.

And Zerxus doesn’t have the power to save him. He doesn’t have the power to do more than grant one moment. One moment of freedom, one moment of sanity. They can only give each other such tiny, tiny things. A second. An hour. The barest fraction of what they’ve both lost, what they’ve both sold. But it’s what they can give, and they give it immediately. The instant they have the chance.

I just. I do have a lot of feelings about these two incredibly damned men, these men damned by their own actions and arrogance, these men who damned not only themselves but the whole world, just trying to give each other everything they can in this tiny moment that they’ve bought.

Sometimes, redemption works, even if only for a moment. Sometimes, that’s enough.

And if it can work once. If there was enough good remaining for that spark once. Then maybe, as Zerxus and Evandrin hoped, it can work again.

Even on the left and right hands of Asmodeus. If not the god himself.

Sorta continuation of this, here's some observations on how the bsd anime adaptation rate (average of number of chapters adapted per episode) changed every season:

Season 1: 10 plot episodes + 2 ln adaptation. Adapts up to chapter 16. Average of chapters adapted per episode: 1.60

Season 2: 8 plot episodes + 4 ln adaptation. Adapts chapters 17-37 (21 chapters). Average of chapters adapted per episode: 2.63 (+1.03)

Season 3: 9 plot episodes + 3 ln adaptation. Adapts chapters 38-39 & 41-53 (15 chapters). Average of chapters adapted per episode: 1.67 (-0.96)

Season 4: 10 plot episodes + 3 ln adaptation. Adapts chapters 54-77 (24 chapters). Average of chapters adapted per episode: 2.40 (+0.73)

※ I opted out of counting the Hitori Ayumi OVA this time around, reasoning that the factors that play into conditioning the season episodes adaptation rate wouldn't have influenced the OVA given its nature of stand-alone episode.

Seasons 1-3 adaptation rate: 27 plot episodes, 52 adapted chapters. Average of chapters adapted per episode: 1.93

Season 4 adaptation rate compared to the average of all the previous seasons: 2.40 (+0.47)

Seasons 1-4 overall adaptation rate: 37 plot episodes, 76 adapted chapters. Total average of chapters adapted per episode: 2.05

That being said, let's try to guess how season 5 might play out taking in the previous four seasons adaptation rate of 2.05 as standard. Here's the fun thing: if season 5 is just 12 / 13 episodes of plot adaptation, that would mean adapting up to chapter 102 / 104. Coincidentally, chapter 104 (fukufuku flashback) is also the furthest in the manga plot that was shown in the last season 5 trailer. Feel free to draw your own conclusions, but as of now a new light novel adaptation seems positively unlikely and a Stormbringer adpatation basically impossible to make fit.

The writers about Troy’s S/O

So I know the writers can’t spoil of course and are vague on purpose, but it seems we will get more information about who Troy’s S/O is. I said it in one my posts before, but I think Troy might either share it himself or we might even hear it from Tracy? I’ve seen two theories so far: A) she is a lady who belonged to Lola’s people at the Dam, B) A lady who was part of the Proctors led by Proctor John and C) I even saw someone theorize it’s Alex (the lady from S2 who Victor cut loose on the water and joined that pirate group). I personally, don’t need to see a face. But we might get something maybe?

On another note, the family driven plot that Troy has again (he already did with the Ranch and his brother and father) and it sort of mirroring Madison in early seasons since she can only build on her children’s dreams is interesting. I wished we could’ve seen how Troy build all of that up over that decade.

Lastly, I really, really, really want to have some Daniel Sharman interviews. He’s so MIA at the moment. I thought with the revelation of his daughter and S/O that he’d get more interviews and all that but alas. His insights about Toy are always eyeopening to me and I can listen to him talk about Troy for hours.

-->But uh-oh! The thing that I was hoping wouldn't happen had happened -- the flower arrangements that the gang had made near the start of this whole "grocery store" venture had started to wilt! I quickly unmarked all the arrangements for sale and had Victor sell all the bad ones directly -- as they were now covered in flies, he didn't get a good price for any of them, but since all of the arrangements we make here are free, it was still pure profit. Victor then got sent back downstairs to work on deodorant perfume --

-->While Alice came upstairs and stole some meat right out of the meat "department" to eat! Naughty werewolf! >( I guess it's my fault for not immediately marking them all for sale -- the trouble is, I need to have at least one that ISN'T for sale so Victor can Copypasto it! *grumbles* Anyway, she got punished for eating some of the product by having the bathroom sink break on her when she washed her plate -- what you get, girl! At least it didn't take her too long to fix it up.

-->Forbidden snacktime over with, it was straight back to work again -- Victor finished up his perfume, and then discharged so he could get back to Copypastoing everything he could Copypasto; Alice got put back on bulk processing, making tomato sauce and meat substitute; and Smiler took over the flower arranging bench to start replacing the wilted flower arrangements! Specifically, with excellent-quality arrangements that could be scented with bluebells, which make the arrangements "Timeless." That is, I believe they no longer wilt at ALL. Which, given how long it's taken us to fill up this store, I believe is going to be USEFUL. I was prepared to have them work at this for a while --

-->But then I noted the time both in-game and in real life, and realized, "okay, you guys should go home so I can wrap this up." So, after noting what the gang needed in the store (boxes of jam, cheese, more candles, more flower arrangements, etc), and discovering a spare picture from the family reunion still in Alice's inventory (I decided it would look cute on the front desk), I did indeed send the gang home.

Where they were promptly put back to work in the crafting barn. XD Victor was sent to make more candles; Smiler to make more chatterbots; and Alice to make more sugar to use in canning. I left it with her going "screw it, gonna just sleep on the floor here." XD Sorry, I just really, REALLY wanted to get this done!
