838 Wanda Maximoff x GN! Reader
Warnings: Grief. Death. Angst. Fluff. Amab! Reader
18+ MINORS DNI
"Promise me you will be careful?" Wanda spoke softly as she lay in Y/N's arms. Y/N holding her after a night of trying to expand their family of two.
"I promise." They told her with a gentle smile before kissing her softly. Relishing in the skin on skin as nothing was between them, soon turning into more as they flipped her over.
Wanda's heart dropped when she heard the news, heading straight towards the facility to see Peggy Carter with a solemn look on her face. Christine Palmer walked out with a sad expression before she noticed Wanda.
"I tried everything I could." She told the witch who gasped as she followed Christine into the room. "We figured you might want to say goodbye so we hooked them up to a ventilator. It won't help them but maybe it can give you some closure."
Wanda held their hand in her own, feeling the cold gold wedding band missing from their finger. Wanda looked to Christine with tears streaming.
"Where's the ring? Their wedding ring?" She asked as Christine handed her a bag of their belongings.
"It's in there, everything is in there." She told her. "I'll leave you be."
Wanda sat in silence as she looked over her life partner's features. Bruised, bloodied and broken. It broke her heart to see them in that state, only a machine keeping their body alive long enough for her to say goodbye.
"You promised." She whispered as she wiped her tears. "You promised me you'd be safe."
"I know and I am sorry my love." Wanda looked around the room at the faint sound before looking back at Y/N. Her heart beating rapidly as she noticed their body was still the same.
"Y/N?" She whispered as she closed her eyes.
"Right here." They spoke faintly, Wanda only left the room, leaving Christine to turn off the ventilator. Ignoring everyone's calls as she left the building and headed straight home. Once she was alone in their shared room, sat on the edge of the un-made bed as she held Y/N's belongings.
Here eyes closed as she tried everything in her mind to seek them out, but she come up empty. She felt nothing which her body soon racked with sobs, soon picking up the picture of the two on their honeymoon. Wanda smiling as she jumped on Y/N's shoulders, they had asked a passerby to take the picture.
"You said you wouldn't leave me." She cried as she looked at the picture.
"And I didn't." They spoke clearer than before. "I'm still right here." Wanda looked up to see a figure leaning against the wall. "I made a promise and you know I don't break them my love."
"How?" She whispered as she sat up, watching as they gracefully approached her.
"Well, I felt you." They told her as they knelt before her, Wanda went to caress their face only to feel cold.
"I can't feel you." She whispered as Y/N gave her a sad smile.
"That is because I am indeed dead." They told her as she shook her head.
"I don't want you to be." She whispered shakily as she started to cry. Crying harder than before as she held their pillow and photo close to her chest.
"Lay down my love." They cooed as she did as she was told. "Rest."
"Please stay." She requested in a small and broken voice.
"Of course." They smiled as Wanda soon fell into a deep slumber. Her dreams soon filling her mind.
"She just left?" Charles questioned as Christine confirmed with a nod.
"Well, she is grieving." Peggy reasoned.
"But what do we do with Y/N?" Christine questioned.
"We give them the funeral." Charles told them all and they did. They all tried to approach Wanda to attend but she was completely locked in her fantasy of Y/N still being around.
"I remember that." Wanda laughed as she lay on her side. She had been reminiscing on all of their years together from the moment they had met. Completely ignoring the knocks and phone calls.
"Yeah, it was a fun time. Painful but fun." Y/N smiled as they squeezed their eyes closed at the memory of knocking themselves out by walking into a door that said pull. "You know, you will have to let go of me eventually."
"I know." Wanda whispered as she gazed at their translucent form. "It's just that." She moved to sit up at the end of the bed, Y/N following her movements. "I am going to be alone for the first time since before well, us."
"You're never really alone Wanda." They told her softly. "You have Peggy, Charles and Christine. Nat and Maria too."
"But none of them are you." Wanda whispered tearily as she turned to face them.
"As long as I am in your heart, I am never truly gone." They told her with a soft smile. "Besides, you won't be alone in 9 months."
"I love you so much Y/N." Wanda told them with tears in her eyes.
"And I love you Wanda Maximoff and I lived my best life with you loving me." They told her. "So promise me you will live your life. Raise our children and teach them everything you have taught me."
"I promise." She told them, as Y/N reached out to caress her cheek, sending a shiver down her spine at the memory of their touch. She closed her eyes as she took a deep breath, opening her eyes to see the empty room. No sign of Y/N but the knock on the door.
So she wiped her eyes as she went to answer the door. Allowing an extremely worried Nat inside who rambled on about Wanda going radio silent.
"I just needed to come to terms with it all Nat." She told the assassin who gave her a sad look.
"The funeral was nice." Nat told her. "We tried to reach you, but we couldn't. You wouldn't answer your phone or the door."
"It's ok." Wanda whispered sadly as Nat then hugged her.
Y/N was right, she wasn't alone, she had a family in the team of heroes she knew and fought beside for years. Even when the pregnancy was confirmed, she had a band of heroes who helped her decorate the nursery, putting a picture of Y/N and Wanda in between the cots on the wall.
"Their very own guardian angel." Peggy smiled as they all admired the picture. Wanda beamed as she rubbed her stomach, Y/N's wedding ring was hung around her neck as she felt the twins then kick.
"They will be loved." Wanda whispered as she looked at Y/N's picture, a gentle smile on her face.
Even as the twins grew up, Wanda would share stories about Y/N, who they were and what they did. The twins grew up knowing their parent died a hero.
"Your O'pa is never truly gone." Wanda told them as she sat between the beds after tucking in the two 10 year olds. "As long as they live in our hearts."
She placed a gentle kiss upon both of their heads before she headed towards the door. Smiling at the two of them, seeing some of Y/N in them before she bid them goodnight. Heading to do her own thing, well clean up the mess the boys had created with a smile on her face.
Wanda had truly found the peace and tranquillity within losing a loved one. Someone who she thought would be with her to raise their boys but they were, just the mere memory of them and their ways gave her the strength.
Holding on to the memory of them whilst letting go of the pain that came with the loss was a huge mountain to overcome, and she couldn't have done it without the family and friends she had surrounding her.

What’s the Multiverse Theory? Does it connect specific fandoms or is it something different? I like to think that we’re connected to the fandom verses but IDK
Ooh excellent question, fellow internet traveler... The Multiverse Theory (or more or less, the version that I'm a fan of) is a theory our universe isn't the only one, and there are multiple universes parallel to each other, and these universes are presumed to comprise everything that exists: the entirety of space, time, matter, energy, information, and the physical laws and constants that describe them.
Like in Arrowverse (Arrow/The Flash/Supergirl/Legends of Tomorrow/Superman and Lois) they have multiple parallel realities, an example being Cisco and Caitlin from Earth-2 being "evil" meta humans. And like in Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness where they travel throughout the multiverse to keep America Chavez away from Wanda. And how they end up on Earth-838 are apprehended and brought before the Illuminati, a group consisting of Mordo, Peggy Carter, Blackagar Boltagon, Maria Rambeau, Reed Richards, and Charles Xavier. And Wanda dreamwalks there and... Y'know, carnage ensues.
Supernatural also dives into the Multiverse concept a few times!
I really hope I explained this well enough for you 😃 (I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, sometimes I can't really say what I mean.)

One unfortunate limitation for a Multiversal arc like this is the reality of actor availability. Like. Tony Stark's dead in the 616, but that doesn't matter, right? Because there are parallel Tony Starks that we can get involved in things!
...well... No. No, there are not. Tony Stark's dead because RDJ felt like he'd put enough of his life into this character and wanted to move on. He's not coming back to play Tony-838 or Spider-Tony or Tony-Kang or any other cool Tonies you might come up with. For all intents and purposes, Tony is dead (or permanently just offscreen) in all possible universes. And that sort of thing is limiting for the sort of fun you can have with a multiverse.
What If? gets away with having Tonies because the nature of an animated medium makes Marvel more willing to recast. But even though No Way Home gave them a free license to cast new actors as variant characters, they seem reluctant to actually go through with it for their live-action products.
I use Tony as an example because he's relevant to this film, but the same limitation exists for any character whose actor doesn't want to return and for whom Marvel won't recast. We probably won't be seeing Steve Rogers or T'Challa any time soon. Natasha Romanov maybe, but I'd be surprised if there isn't bad blood between ScarJo and Marvel after she literally sued them for trying to screw her out of her Black Widow movie pay.
Though, plus side for Peggy Carter, Steve's unavailability means Captain Carter's getting a publicity push!
We see that here, with the Illuminati. Tony Stark is iconically meant to be one of the Illuminati. But without RDJ, they can't make that happen. And so we get Ultron soldiers evocative of Tony's presence, but without being able to actually bring him here and involve him in this organization that he's iconically so connected to.
It's a very effective workaround to the problem of No Multiversal Tonies. A clever way of keeping him involved when he cannot exist onscreen. But it's a solution to a problem that other mediums, such as comics and animation, simply don't have with their wacky multiversal jaunts. And the longer the MCU runs, the more they're going to run into this sort of thing.
They should really consider taking NWH up on that "Variants played by different actors is fine" thing.

never again (will you leave me)
Tumblr media
Summary: On Earth-838, Natasha abandons her recon mission after she receives a distress call from Captain Carter that her Wanda is being possessed by her alternate self.
A/N: One day I'll expand upon this idea but for now it will remain as a drabble
---
"Nat, if you get this, the Illuminati Headquarters is under attack. The person in question is... Wanda Maximoff, your wife.
She is currently being possessed by another version of her through dreamwalking. Maria doesn't seem concerned and is confident we can handle her, but the Steven Strange we currently have imprisoned and prepped for trial said this Wanda is also known as the Scarlet Witch. There was deep-rooted terror in his eyes as he warned us of the Scarlet Witch's power and..." Static and explosions were heard in the background. "Listen, Nat. If something were to happen to the Illuminati, to me, I have no doubt that you'll be able to stop her. She cannot have that child with the power to jump through universes."
Natasha replayed the message over and over as she drove her motorcycle to the headquarters, an overwhelming sense of dread washing over the agent.
Dozens of broken and torn apart Ultron sentry units were scattered around the front gates and the long hall leading to the lab.
When Natasha found Wanda, the blood-covered woman stood alone among the fallen bodies of the Illuminati with her back turned to the agent. Natasha forced herself to swallow back her tears, knowing that Peggy, her best friend, was gone; she was too late.
She set her Widow Bite to maximum voltage and lifted her arm.
"Stop."
Wanda, with piercing red glowing eyes, turned around with an expression that turned soft. "Natasha..."
"Get out of my Wanda's body and return to your universe." Natasha began charging a taser disk as a tear slide down her cheek. "Please... I don't want to do this..."
With a single wave of the hand, Wanda's magic completely disassembles Natasha's Widow Bites and the components fall to the floor. Before Natasha could react, Wanda teleported in front of her, streams of red flowing into Russian's conscious. Natasha tried to fight her off, but her eyes involuntarily close and she lost consciousness.
Natasha's unconscious body floated into Wanda's arms and she held the woman tenderly, lips pressing softly to the agent's forehead.
"Once I've taken America's powers, I'll take you back home..." Wanda murmured. "And this time, we'll be together. I'll make sure you'll never leave me again..."

fate unkind - peggy carter x reader
gender neutral, reader is from earth-616, set in earth-838
a/n: i loved peggy in the movie. she's so breathtaking, i had to write something for her! hope you enjoy :)
word count: 1250
warnings: minimal swearing, mentions of death
Tumblr media
It's funny how one thing leads to another. Although maybe 'funny' isn't the right word to use right now. There's not much fun about waking up in a glass cell in some high-tech facility in a different universe.
You had an enjoyable time before all that if you forget about Wanda Maximoff being after you. The idea of the multiverse blew your mind, so physically being in a different universe almost made you lose it. There were blue skies with clouds of rainbows and beautiful skyscrapers adorned with greenery. Not to mention the pizza balls, a truly genius invention.
Things took a turn from there. You were the first to wake after being drugged. From fucking tea. America and Stephen were still out, locked up in similar cells to yours. You were then met with Christine Palmer. But not the one you were familiar with. You greeted her with a 'holy shit'. She greeted you with less vulgar language.
Christine explained the situation to you. This universe had far more knowledge of the multiverse than yours could ever imagine. You urged her to help, telling her there was imminent danger just one universe away. But your panic seemed to have no effect on her.
Not soon later, you were escorted to a spacious room by two androids that reminded you far too much of the Ultron Sentries you fought on Sokovia. You met a council of unfamiliar faces. Except for one far too familiar face. Peggy Carter. The love of your life.
She wasn't your Peggy. You could tell straight away from the costume and shield. But man, was she a sight to behold.
She recognised you too. You could tell by the look in her eyes. The eyes you would spend countless nights gazing into. The eyes you'd never thought you'd ever see again.
You knew your Peggy back in the war. She was brilliant and determined, the brightest star in the galaxy. But fate, as unkind as it is, had different plans. Peggy lived and aged throughout the years. The same didn't happen to you.
And that eventually led you here, much older and having fought unfathomable threats. At some point, you thought it'd best to retire, only to have a giant octopus squid monster show up in the city. You guess that's just what happens when you choose to settle in New York City.
The council called themselves the Illuminati. Interesting name choice, you thought to yourself. You weren't quite sure what the point of the meeting was. The bald guy in a big yellow chair said something about Stephen being really dangerous. They hoped by first talking to you, they could gather some insight into your Stephen Strange.
After the meeting, you did not return to your cell as you had expected to. Instead, the two Ultron Sentries lead you to an empty corridor, where Peggy waits on a bench. She stands as you approach. For a second, you hesitate, believing all of this to be one cruel trick. But it isn't. It's real.
Your handcuffs deactivate, allowing you to move your arms freely. The Ultron Sentries stay behind, giving the two of you privacy.
"Peggy?" you call out, hating how broken you sounded.
Peggy says your name back, gently and lovingly, and you swear you could've broken down right then and there. You don't stop to think whether or not it would be appropriate to hug her. You do it like your life depends on it.
Peggy reciprocates the hug without a second thought. You're not sure how long it lasted, but you relish every second. It felt like coming home after being away for so long. It felt like Peggy.
The two of you end the hug, and Peggy takes your hands. She guides you to sit down with her.
"This all must be a bit of a shock for you," she says.
You let out a small laugh, "Yeah, you could say that."
"I apologise for the formalities earlier. I wanted something less... interrogative, but I was outvoted."
She must be talking about the council with its high platform, fancy chairs and dramatic reveals.
"Oh, don't worry about it," you tell her, "It was... well, it sure was impressive."
Peggy smiles, and your heart flutters.
You continue, "This place is insane. I don't recognise anyone else from the council. And those robot android things, the last time I saw something like that, it was trying to kill me."
Peggy laughs, "It sounds like you've had quite a lot of adventures."
"Nothing as crazy as this one... But God, Peggy, I've missed you so much."
"I've missed you too, love. More than you could know."
You feel almost silly asking, "Is there a version of me in this universe?"
A ghost of a smile appears on Peggy's face.
"There was," she tells you.
Was, not is? That's already a bad sign.
You let her continue, "I met you during the war. You were my close confidant, my lover. There was this super soldier program. Someone else was prepared to do the procedure, but an attack from the enemy left us with no choice, and I had to go through with it."
So Peggy took the serum instead of Steve Rogers in this world?
"Our enemy used the Tesseract to open a portal and summon an interdimensional creature. To defeat it, I had to push it back through. I emerged only seconds afterwards, but decades had passed on Earth. I looked for you everywhere. But it was too late. You were gone."
You feel your chest tighten. The two of you are in the same boat. Stuck in the future and longing for nothing more than the past. Except you got to say goodbye to your Peggy; you were there at her funeral. This Peggy didn't get to do that with you.
Looking down, your hands are still holding hers. You try and memorise the feeling. You always entertained the idea that somewhere there was a different you and a different Peggy leading a much different life. But in a million universes, you could have never imagined a situation like this one.
"I guess there's no happy ending for us, huh?" you say, looking back up.
"Maybe not today. But I have no doubt our love is a constant in the multiverse. That's an infinite number of worlds where I get to love you. And yes, some may last just a second, and some may be forever. But in the end, it's always you."
If your heart could break any more than it already has, it did just then. There is so much more you want to know. Peggy is right in front of you, and you're right in front of her. But how could you be together when there's a whole multiverse between the two of you?
The Ultron Sentries start marching towards you. Your time together is up. Now it's time to go back to your glass cell to wait for whatever the hell happens next.
Panic starts rising inside you; you don't want to leave. But Peggy stays calm. She brings her hand to your cheek. It's a light touch, like a soft kiss.
"I'll love you forever," she says in almost a whisper.
And like your own personal ibuprofen, she quells your discomfort.
"I love you too," you reply, "Until the end of space and time."
Peggy smiles once more. She's beautiful.
"I hope I dream of you tonight," she says.

Earth-838
Home to the Illuminati; Baron Mordo, Charles Xavier (Professor X), Monica Ranbeau (Captain Marvel), Peggy Carter (Captain Carter), Black Bolt, and Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic). A Solar Punk reality where Ultron never became evil, Thanos was defeated by the Illuminati, and Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) lives a suburban life with her two sons. Additionally, traffic light colors work the opposite way, and pizza takes the form of balls rather than triangular slices.
First mentioned/appearance: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022 film)

Here's how the story goes. Peggy Carter aka Captain Carter, found herself on earth-616 and fell in love with the Steve Rogers of that earth. They had a son that they named, Sky. When Sky was six years old, Peggy had to return to earth-838 to help her team stop the Scarlet witch of her world. She never returned and that left Steve heartbroken as he found comfort in his best friend, Bucky Barnes. The two soon married as they raised Sky together.
When Sky was seventeen years old, he found himself infatuated with Y/N Peters, a young man who was neither enhanced or a mutant or inhuman, but a magical Fairy. That's how Steve and Bucky learned to let their son go and see where this went with Y/N.

Doctor Strange: MoM Masterlist
Cold & Drained (ao3) - Anonymous G, 425
Summary: you know the scene in MoM after America learns to control her portals and comes to get Stephen and Christine? That but fluffy
Easier Said than Done (ao3) - Orange_Sunsets christine/stephen T, 1k
Summary: Christine returns to her Earth and has to deal with the destruction that was caused. She soon realizes that there was more that happened that fateful night, unknown to her because of her attempt to free America. She's soon left to process what happened, and everyone, including her, is left to pick up the pieces.
*Takes place after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*
Finding Family (ao3) - aparticularbandit M, 374k
Summary: When America begins universe-hopping again to try and find her moms, she realizes that's too much scope for her. She looks for smaller scope, and instead she finds Wanda.
forgiveness is warm (like a tear on a cheek) (ao3) - lesbiantahani wanda/natasha M, 25k
Summary: Maybe after everything, she'll always feel like this. Who was she without love, who will she be? Wanda doesn't feel like crumbling for the thousandth time, she wants for once, to not grieve. When her fingers scrunch the fabric atop her thighs as she tries to anchor herself, it doesn't work, because Natasha was better at doing that for her. Natasha was better for her with everything.
-
or, post multiverse of madness, wanda reconciles with her guilt.
i dream of you (do you dream of me too?) (ao3) - Linzerj G, 2k
Summary: It starts with a dream, shortly after she first meets Doctor Stephen Strange.
(Peggy Carter of Earth-838 dreams of a version of herself that has travelled the multiverse, saved the multiverse, and made friends with a... very strange version of Stephen Strange.)
I Said I Would Never Fall Unless Its You (ao3) - coolpointsetta tony/stephen M, 112k
Summary: “It took me a long time, but I realized my situation wasn’t entirely hopeless,” Strange’s voice was gaining confidence, bit by bit. “In my scouring of the multiverse, I realized that Christine Palmer wasn’t my destiny, but he was. It is written in the fabric of every universe, it is set in stone: Stephen Strange and Tony Stark are meant to be together. No matter where they begin or where their journeys end, they are meant to love each other…”
His voice trailed off a little as he became absorbed with watching his variants dance with different versions of Tony. The looks of happiness on their faces made Wanda’s heart break and her resolve crack, and she was beginning to understand more of where he was coming from.
“But Tony Stark is always destined to die.”
In Every Universe (ao3) - MagicalTear tony/stephen T, 16k
Summary: Tony Stark had been working for the Illuminati for years, doing his share to make the world a safer place as he worked alongside Earth's strongest heroes. He had his inventions and he had Stephen, and for a moment everything was perfect...until it wasn't. Until the Illuminati tore Stephen from his side and left him with a hollow heart.
The last thing Tony expected was for the multiverse to come knocking on their door so soon after Thanos' demise, throwing none other than Stephen Strange at his feet once again. He might have been a genius, but he was not equipped to handle a magic book chase, a teenager in distress, and one mad Scarlet Witch.
Perhaps it was time for Earth 838 to go through some changes.
(Or...grab the second half of Multiverse of Madness and make it IronStrange)
my name is whatever you decide (and i'm just gonna call you mine) (ao3) - thelilacfield wanda/vision E, 3k
Summary: She let herself forget the rightness of this, caught up in her dreams, in the broken memories and the fractured realities, burning the world down around her with the Darkhold at her fingertips.
She let herself lose him, and in this moment he’s hers again.
Please Let it Be True (ao3) - Airene G, 3k
Summary: When Stephen turns away, eyes crinkling in fondness and smirk soft near the edges, America tries her best not to call out to him again.
She succeeds. Surprisingly. Instead of calling out to him again, probably with some useless quip or lame excuse to stall for time, she watches him leave through the portal he opens and clamps down on the disappointment that surges through her almost immediately when it closes behind him.
//// Misunderstandings occur, but they get it figured out
The Space Between Us (ao3) - KVeronicaP christine/stephen T, 3k
Summary: This was a mistake, bringing her into the New York Sanctum.
"Wait a minute, okay?"
His hand lightly brushed Christine's forearm, and she gave him a quick nod. The very idea of Christine of Earth-838 being there eased some of the tension in his shoulders, though it did nothing to bring his heart back from his throat. Wong's gaze boring into him didn't help either. This was an exceedingly stupid idea.
"I... I ask for one day."
-
In which Stephen of Earth-616 cannot let go of Christine of Earth-838. Or, alternatively, how two souls find a way to bridge the space between them in one hell of an incursion without endangering their universes [tripartite fix-it fic]
They'll Have Someone To Care For Them (ao3) - entity9silvergen reed richards/susan storm, christine/strange, past steve/peggy T, 34k
Summary: Earth 838 had a Wanda.
Reed had met her. He knew her. All of the Fantastic Four, all of the world's heroes, did. That was why Reed had truly believed the Illuminati could take her. This Wanda may have lost her way a little bit with the loss of her children but she was still Wanda. She was fundementally good and she could be reasoned with.
At least that's what Reed thought until he saw Black Bolt's head explode.
Why Did You Save Me? (ao3) - kittyhazelnut G, 1k
Summary: “I opened the Darkhold, and I have to be the one to close it.”
“We can close it together.”

*knocks door* hiiii
probably very late to the panda™️ crackship party buuuut i just got here thinking like...
imagine Wanda and peggy talking about their relationships with their brothers...
BCS IT COULD GO MANY WAYS LIKE:
Peggy comforting Wanda when pietro dies bcs she has an idea of the what pain of losing her brother (the only person that believed in her and her dreams and ambitions at the time ((you know, when she was gonna marry plain white bread unseasoned man looking ass fred)) ) is like. Peggy promising Wanda they will do right by his name and memory and being there for her and becoming close. AND THAT LEADS TO SABHDHEWFBRHE LOVE DOVEY STUFF
or it could be like, Pietro doesn't die, the twins are part of... whatever superhero group is there idk. and Peggy can help but going on full protection mode bcs the way Wanda and Pietro interact remind her in some way of her and Michael in some way. Peggy just wants wanda to be happy so whenever she and pietro are in a difficult position she is the first one to come and help and it can lead to her getting hurt. So one day wanda is asks why she behaves like that and they talk about michael. Maybe Peggy even gives permission to wanda to like see her memories or smth like that and they grow close AND LEADS TO LOVEY DOVEY STUF SAHUFNREGNVRT
so anyway i have way too much time on my hands and lost the "stop shipping Peggy carter with every woman challenge" as well sooo-

PS: the potential of this ship being abosutely and utterly DARK AND TWISTED (specially if is with Scarlet Witch and not 838 wanda) is another rabbit hole for another day

so i was telling the other folks after i watched this movie that my hc for 838 mordo was that his stephen told him to stay back on earth in case something happened to the rest of the heroes as they went to fight thanos on titan. and mordo did, trusting stephen to come back home. except all he got back was the cape and the rest of them told him they had to kill stephen because he was getting corrupted.
on the surface mordo was like "🥲 oh ok i guess we should form the illuminati like he instructed and i will be the 6th member." but inside he's like, "one day i am going to kill every single one of you for taking away the love of my life." which is why when wanda showed up to commit massacre, he kept variant stephen away — he didn't want the variant to interfere with his plan of getting the illuminati killed in revenge
Oh that’s dark and fits well with the world of 838 I think. Maybe Xavier talks to him about it? 😱 Because I’m sure he would have noticed the homicidal thoughts filling Mordo’s head. Unless everyone has those thoughts so often it’s commonplace and expected. I think Mordo being upset and murderous after his love was executed is an expected response.
And perhaps Mordo keeps going back and forth with those thoughts. At times coming very close to forgiveness, but ultimately he goes back to entertaining that resentment whenever it hits him that his Stephen is truly gone. Like Mordo didn’t just lose Stephen, he also lost his friends in a way. I don’t see how they could remain good friends after that. Coworkers yes, but friends? No way.
I would love a conversation between him and Xavier, and possibly Captain Carter cause I feel like they were close, about how he’s coping.
And this is the point where I decided to just go ahead and write out a scene 😅 @presidentrhodes I hope you enjoy! I did take mad liberties though but I hope it still fits with your headcanon.
Also I’m on mobile so I have no idea how to put this under a read more. My apologies.

He heard them before he saw them. The professor’s hoverchair was quiet but in a garden saturated in silence, even the gentle hum was disturbing. Unwanted. Unwelcomed. Much like the people who accompanied it.
“Karl,” Captain Carter’s voice was gentle as always.
He used to find it soothing. The bell-like sound of it began countless conversations filled with ease and laughter. But now the memories of that friendship conjured a sour taste in his mouth, carving another inch into the aching pit of his heart.
“We’ve come to see how you’ve been,” Charles began. “See how well you’re holding up.”
Karl briefly glanced at them before settling his eyes back to the task at hand.
“As well as I can,” Karl clipped another lily from its stem. “Given my current loss.”
Neither of his unwelcomed guests spoke for a while. The baron’s eyes were weary, his face heavy from sleepless nights and tears he refused to shed in front of them. He continued his work, taking lilies from the garden he and his love once tended together.
“Do you like them?” Karl asked, his eyes still avoiding both. “Stephen did.”
His voice was measured carefully, controlled tightly in an effort to keep his rage locked away. Not that it mattered much. Charles was probably soaking in every violent, miserable thought at that moment. And Karl didn’t have the strength to care about what he thought anymore. He only cared about maintaining his dignity in his grief. And he refused to spare any energy screaming at these two.
He needed all he had to endure the funeral.
“They’re lovely,” Peggy said. “I haven’t seen that variety before.”
“Of course you haven’t. They’re uniquely mine. They’re from my mother’s gardens,” Karl said. “She used magic to cultivate them in Romania years ago. She found out how to charm them so they can survive in sunshine and snow, and now I continue that here.”
He clipped another one, and then another, his hands precise and slow. The sound of the shears, snapping and slicing, rhythmic, filled the next silence.
“She would charm them to change colors too,” Karl said. “In the summer they’re a brilliant yellow, with shiny specks on the inner petals like crushed diamonds. And in the winter they’d bleed a rich scarlet, so they could stand out in the snow.”
He turned to them at last with a bouquet of beautiful, dying lilies in his arms.
“Yours are white,” Charles said. “White with grey.”
Karl smiled without warmth. The motion was done out of habit, and faded fast.
“Cutting them ends the charm,” Karl said. “My mother laid her precious lillies on my father’s grave.”
He walked past them. His long grey and black robes disturbed the fallen petals on the grass as he placed the lilies in a basket.
“And now they’ll accompany my husband,”
His voice cracked enough for tenderness to seep out.
“We just wanted to see how you were. And to let you know that we’re here for you,” Peggy said. “Karl if you need anything from us, anything at all…”
“Don’t worry yourselves.”
The baron stood straight and looked at her directly, the full weariness of his eyes raw and exposed.
“You took the one thing I needed and wanted,” Karl said. “And since returning him would be an impossibility, there’s nothing more I can request, except for you both to leave.”
His eyes glistened. The world and their faces blurred into a mess.
“And take your sympathies with you.”
He turned away from them, letting his tears fall once they couldn’t see.
“Karl, we came here for something else as well. I have concerns about your state of-“
“For a man who can read minds you’re not really perceptive are you?” The edge sharpened in Karl’s voice. “I want you both to leave.”
“When we returned and gave you Stephen’s cloak you were crushed,” Peggy said. “But you agreed that it was needed. Stephen’s actions destroyed an entire universe.”
“Do not tell me how I felt,” Karl said. “Do not dare tell me what filled my mind or heart when you told me how my husband was executed. All of you knew his fate before he left me. And none of you….our allies….our friends…none of you granted me the chance to say goodbye.”
He fought back a sob and won. A deep breath found his tears forming again.
“He was wrong,” Karl said. “I know that. But he was mine. And I did nothing to deserve his fate being kept from me.”
Peggy’s eyes softened. She stepped forward to touch his shoulder but he held his hand up to dismiss her attempts.
“None of you are welcome here. I will still work with you, for the sake of the alliance Stephen started.
But the friendships died with him,” Karl swallowed thickly. “And I will not welcome his murderers into our home.”
Karl stood proud, harnessing both his strength as a baron and the new supreme to look his former friends in the eyes.
You will drown in your grief if you face this alone,” Charles said softly.
“If you stay in my presence one minute more you’ll find my thoughts turning to action,” Karl said. His voice was raw now, barely veiling a cry. “Unless you both came here to kill me first.”
“No!” Peggy’s shocked face gave him some relief. “We didn’t come here to kill you.”
“Why else would you come here? To offer condolences for the grief you caused?” Karl said bitterly, turning to the professor. “Or to interrogate me about the thoughts screaming in my head?”
“Your reaction is understandable Karl, as is your rage. But you will not carry it out,” Charles said. “Stephen told us you would not.”
“Do not use him to manipulate me,”
“I’m not. I’m only telling the truth. He expected this. It doesn’t require my powers to know you’d want us dead for what happened.”
“Few things comfort me anymore,” Karl said. “Except for thinking of all the ways I can return your kindness . I’m sure you’ve pried inside my mind, as I’m sure the others have implored you to do. So what do you think of my plans Charles? I’m rather creative don’t you think?”
“Creative would not be my first description of it,” Charles said. “Brutal is more suitable. But I know you will not carry it out.”
Karl stepped forward. Peggy edged herself between the two men, her palm open at her side, ready to grab the shield she forever carried.
“Stop it Captain,” Karl said. “As much as it pains me to admit, Professor Xavier is right. I won’t kill any of you. I have no intention of staining my hands in your blood.”
Karl’s finger brushed against his wedding band without even meaning to. He did it many times before, when Stephen was absent and he needed to feel his presence. Now it would be a ritual he could never break, a wait he would never feel relief from.
“I’ll put on whatever face I need, and tell whatever lie I must to keep Kamar Taj secure in this alliance,” Karl said. “But should a demon shatter your doors to rip you apart….I will not argue with it.”
“Cooperation is all we ask for Karl,” Peggy said. “And perhaps one day, your forgiveness.”
“Perhaps,” Karl nodded. “And who knows? Maybe it'll be the same day your little soldier boy returns. Wouldn’t that be a treat?”
His former friend’s mouth fell open, wordless and hurt.
For the first time that day, a genuine smile curled on his lips.
“I’ll see you both at the funeral,” Karl said. “No need for gifts. They won’t be appreciated.”
With a flick of his wrist he conjured a portal above them, slamming the fiery ring down to swallow them back into their compound.
His grandfather was right. He was far too patient with peasants.
Karl picked up his basket of lilies and gently touched the petals. His mother’s lilies provided quiet company, and the memories of home made his eyes heavy with want.
“Never forget who you are. No matter who you marry or where you go. You will always be a baron, and a Mordo. Do not be afraid to remind anyone of that.” His father’s words to him before he decided to commit to Stephen rang in his mind.
“My beautiful boy,” his mother would tell him during those times when heartbreaks would set in. “The one who cries before his enemies has already lost. Never let them see you cry.”
He sobbed, openly crying now that no one could see. He kept their words locked in his heart, his true source of comfort when he couldn’t find any relief from the horrible reality dealt to him.
Then another memory surfaced. Blood red lilies graced a table by a large cozy chair. His grandfather sat there with a book. He was a small child, still tiny enough to rest against the viscount as they read through the pages.
“Barons never carry out the executions. They have others do it for them,” the Viscount said. “It isn’t dignified for someone of your rank to stain their hands. Besides, your mother would be rather upset at the sight, don’t you think?”
Karl sat down on the grass and rested the lilies on his lap. He carefully twisted the steams, fashioning them together in the ways his mother taught him. He intended to cover Stephen’s casket with lily wreaths. Just as his own father was, and countless others before him. It was tradition, and Karl had no intention of deviating from it, no matter where he was in the world.
His grandfather’s words kept returning to him as he turned and formed the wreaths.
“Barons never carry out the executions,” Karl said as he finished the first wreath. “They have others do it for them….”
He laid it down and looked at his wedding band, his heart healing a little at the memory of Stephen slipping it on his finger.
“And so I’ll wait for the right executioner,” Karl said, his fresh tears rolling freely as he sighed and held the ring close to his heart.
“After all, who am I to break tradition?”
