I can't lie, the news about Ice Adolescence is heartbreaking, mostly because of its inevitability. Yuri on Ice was a show I desperately needed at the exact moment I desperately needed it. Even now, when I get into a really bad spiral, listening to the soundtrack helps ease some of that weight. It's also a show that I wrote fanfic for before my writing career really took off, and I loved playing with characters and plots, finding ways to weave together all the threads I loved most from the show.

So, yes, while the news is depressing as hell, I'm going to cling to the good things that came from that flashpoint magical show and celebrate them. That includes revisiting some of my old fics and appreciating the comments and friendships I gained from the fandom when I was writing for it. Without further ado...

Up to 180K words on my post-canon Yuri!!! on Ice Olympic Games fic

If you're looking for something long/immersive to read in the Yuri!!! on Ice universe, I've now reached 180K words on my post-canon, married Viktuuri 2018/2022 Olympic Games fic, "Gold's On The Inside, Elevated My Feet".

I know many people aren't into long fics (especially if they're WIPs), but if you don't mind that, I hope you'll consider checking it out, or my other post-canon fics, of which I've got several.

My story (and the larger series that it's part of) covers two Olympic Games -- the 2018 and 2022 Games -- and delves into the aftermath of a scandal (note: not doping) that occurred at the 2018 Olympics, which had major impacts on Yuuri, Viktor, Yurio and others. Despite how heavy it sounds, it's largely a fluffy story about support and friendship, and explores the question of "how do Yuuri and Viktor care for one another long after canon ends?"

It switches point of view, so you get a chance to see things from both Viktor and Yuuri's (and other characters') vantage points.

One reason I'm so attached to the idea of writing post-canon Viktuuri is that I've always been fascinated by the idea of how their relationship would evolve over time, and, specifically, how their trust in one another would grow once they've faced hardships together. In canon, we see how Viktor supports Yuuri into growing into a more self-assured skater, and we get the sense that Yuuri supports Viktor in a number of ways, as well.

But I wanted to explore this in depth, specifically that latter point, about Yuuri growing into supporting Viktor, too. This is a concept I focus on in the main fic, as well as the other stories in my overall series.

I'm including an excerpt below from the chapter I just uploaded, which covers the Men's Short Program at the 2022 Olympics, from Yurio's point-of-view.

--------- “It’s fine, old man…don’t worry about me,” Yuri mumbled, realizing that both Taku and Viktor were standing in front of him. “Katsudon will be up soon.”

At the subsequent hum of murmured Russian, he realized that Lilia was still nearby, but hovering behind him instead of in front of him. She seemed to be passing something to Viktor, and then he sensed a wad of tissues being pressed to his cheek.

“Don’t worry about that right now. Let me focus on you,” his coach said, sounding firm.

Yuri was just glad that neither he nor Taku had made an attempt to hug him; if they had, he had no doubt he would have completely broken down.

“And now, we have our final group of skaters in the Men’s Short Program event! First up, in group 5, and representing Thailand, please welcome…”

“Phichit Chulanont!”

The rink commentator’s voices boomed out, along with thunderous applause. Yuri wasn’t even aware that Viktor and Yuuri had been having a silent conversation of glances and hand gestures until Katsudon stepped up next to him, in the spot Taku had just been in.

“Yura…I know it’s not quite the same as petting Goya, but give it a try: put your hand on Meni’s head,” Yuuri urged, in whispered Russian. “We can share him.”

His friend/rinkmate was cradling the pristinely white toy poodle much like he’d hold a baby, and Yuri gave him a bit of a baleful glare; Meni might be around her size, but he was a rather poor substitute for Potya. Plus, he was entirely too high-energy for Yuri’s tastes. At least Goya was a bit more reserved.

“ну ты вообще! One should not be too proud to accept help when it is offered, Yura,” came Lilia’s chiding refrain. “You never know, it might be a good distraction until you’re up.”

He didn’t even have to look behind him to picture how her lips were pursed in disapproval. Not wanting to invite a lecture, Yuri reached his hand out and reluctantly placed it on top of the pup’s head, in between his ears.

And of course, it was nothing like petting his perfect Potya; he cringed in disgust as Meni immediately tried to lick every single one of his fingers until Viktor began to murmur in a sing-song tone to “settle down, settle down Meni-moppet”.

About a half-minute later, Meni did in fact settle down, and even though Phichit’s performance was clearly going on in the background – as evident from the raucous cheers and screams – Yuri found, somehow, that he was able to block out the noise and just focus on the warm, slightly vibrating body underneath his hand.

Amazingly, once the geezer had implored him to relax, Meni seemed quite content to keep absolutely still, only panting happily under the attention of the surrounding trio of bodies.

It was…

…surprisingly calming.

Damnit, he hated when Lilia was right.

That's why I thought a little scene from his everyday life like this one would be a good choice. I drew it is such a way to give it this "So fun!" "So delicious!" vibe.

Together with his dog, in his apartment in Korea. The breed is Siberian Husky. At the staff meeting, I've heard that "Seung Gil isn't interested in fashion", so I gave his everyday clothes a bit unfortunate look. At first, I had a plan to show him slacking off at home in a sweatsuit, but I thought that would be too much (laugh), so instead I drew this scene.

A day off spent together with his sister. They are taking pictures during their visit to Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral in Florence. Michele looks so happy he's with his beloved sister, isn't he.

Jean-Jacques Leroy

JJ on his day off, spending time at a hotel in Singapore popular with celebrities. I drew this scene as a "I'm going to a party!" kind of scene, JJ showing off how successful his private life is. He's a guy surrounded by girls all the time, but still he thinks about his fans' feelings, so all the girls are turning their back to the camera. The setting for this scene is that only JJ should face the camera.

[Notes: I wonder if JJ's character maybe changed a lot during the production...? Here he seems to be a playboy, but later the setting was that he's a good Christian. Did he change his sinful ways? Or is he simply a hypocrite...? Or is his willpower so strong that he can surround himself with girls all the time and do nothing...? So many questions🤔]

BBC Sherlock: Unpopular opinion but Greg Lestrade, he's trying his best okay...

BBC Merlin: You know, a big part of me wants to say Gwaine, but I think if I re-watched the show it would probably change. I've changed since i watched it, and I feel like I just don't vibe with Gwaine as much as I used to. (Nope, just re-watched, it's definitely Gwaine)

Voltron: This is also like Merlin in the since that it has probably changed. If you asked me while I was watching the show I would have said Lance, but I think now it's Pidge.

Inside job: Brett, hands down. Golden retriever men all the way. He is literally the sweetest and he is refreshing compared to the other main characters.

Recognising the familiar voice, Yuuri looked up. “Nishigori!”

His friend was leaning against the doorframe. Despite the air conditioning, he wore shorts and a T-shirt that emphasised his sturdy hockey player arms. “Where’s your boyfriend? I thought I saw his bike outside.”

“Showering.” Yuuri braced himself against the wall and stretched his calves. There was no way he could keep the growl fully from his voice, even as it came subdued. “And he’s not my boyfriend.”

“I forgot,” Nishigori said. “You’re just friends.”

“No!” Yuuri said, cheeks heating. “It’s not like that. It’s just… we’re not dating or something!”

One month had passed since Yuuri had told Viktor about the pertinacious girl in Detroit. Never before had he told someone about the incident. There were still many things he kept to himself, but around Viktor, he felt comfortable opening up. Not even with Minako, Yuuko, or Phichit Yuuri had felt so at ease. He had to find out what it meant.

“Huh? So, you haven’t yet confessed, Yuuri?” He nudged Yuuri with his elbow. “Right?”

“No,” Yuuri said, wincing at the defensive pitch in his voice. He was still wrestling with the fact that this man was willing to put up with all his weirdness and insecurities.

“And this from the man who urged me to confess!”

“That was different!” Yuuri protested.

Nishigori laughed. “But you two seem inseparable. What are you waiting for, Yuuri? Go and get him!”

“We hang out.” His entire face was glowing now. Could he explain it away by doing exercise so shortly after running all the way here? “I don’t know what will become of this, but it’s nice spending time together.”

“Yuuri, the inexperienced bachelor.” Nishigori was still laughing, but there was an undercurrent fondness in his voice that thwarted every attempt to be angry. “Need some help with stretching?”

Big Sneaks

Four years ago I posted a photo of my notebook open to the Barcelona chapter from WitS while I watched the Olympics.

Now I'm writing the third and final part to that story.

All of the parts are in one Google doc, now almost 500 pages long. so @crossroadswrite’s story on growing absolutely ruined me? it ruined me enough that i decided to do a ton of art for it? it really targeted me by (1) being a dad!victor au with baby yuri and (2) effectively using social media in a way that helps the story but doesn’t overtake it (in much the same way that canon yoi does). all of these are directly taken from the text of the fanfic (based on the image/video descriptions given) though i had to freestyle for some of them

　The order was for a musical-style song. It was a first time for me composing this style of musical, so I could feel like a child again and have really a lot of fun while working on this song. The lyricist, sugar me, and I have shut ourselves in a workroom together and created the outline of the song, all at once, in about 3 hours. Hayashibe Tomonori, also known as The Sampling Wizard, has kindly helped me with the arrangement. The result is as good as I've expected.

　Actually, there are a few parts of this song I had to cut out with heavy heart, because we needed to match it with the animation, but I hope I'll have a chance to share the full version with you one day.

　The plot of the fictional movie "The King and the Skater" and the original lyrics written by Mitsurou-san were so unbelievably detailed and interesting that we have started from translating everything to English. Vocals and chorus were performed by a gospel group The Soulmatics. While working on vocals in "Yuri!!! on ICE", I have used help of their powerful voices a lot of times.

　This piece is a mega-hybrid of folk music - I think we did a good job of creating this difficult to explain with words atmosphere of ethnicity, thanks to the fact that this song is performed by a assembly band of people, who specialize in foreign folk music - Indian, African and Scottish among others. The folk instruments also help with this - tabla by U-zhaan, sitar by Yoshida Daikichi and all kinds of ethnic flutes performed on by Taku Jun'ichiro.

　In the first half of my twenties, when I was working at Tower Records, I've got the position of buyer responsible for the "World Music" section, so I had the opportunity to learn about folk music from all over the world. This time, I have used all the knowledge I have thanks to that experience to came up with ideas for this project and its production, while Matsushiba-kun composed and arranged the song. It was a lot of fun to improvise the lyrics at the same time as we were recording the vocals.

So today, as I was sitting down, I thought that maybe I should do a review on the different kinds of 'Ships' or as you can guess 'OTPs' from Yuri On ICE anime. This will be a long list so maybe I'll do them in parts, but let's start, shall we.

But before starting i have another thing to say, these reactions or reviews on the 'OTPs' are entirely my opinion. My options may not match with you, so don't please spread Hate on Me, if some of my opinions are different than yours. Thank you :)

Let's begin:-

1) Victuuri (Victor Nikiforov and Katsuki Yuuri)

Rating: 10/10 for me.

Victuuri, this ship, is the most beautiful ship that I've ever seen in a sports nime. The trust and faith they have in eachother is something to admire for sure. Their relationship shows us, that an couple can be obsessed eachother, but not in a bad or abusive way, but instead in a beautiful way. Victor and Yuuri are perfect for eachother. Victor meets Yuuri half way. Their Love consists of all kinds/forms of Love, let it be Agápe or Eros. It's beautiful to see them together.

2) Otayuri (Otabek Altin and Yuri Plitesky)

Rating: 10/10

Otabek and Yuri in my opinion are perfect for eachother. Yuri has a fiesty, angry but a caring type of persona, on the other hand Otabek has a stoic, calm and caring type. Otabek is Like the Ocean to Yuri's Fire. The Calmness to his Fire. They look good together, and Otabek is the one who can calm the Russian tiger down, which is like a great feat to achieve. They truly look Amazing beside eachother.

3) Christophe Giacometti and His 'mysterious' boyfriend.

Rating: Maybe 7/10.

(I could really find an image for them, but inthe end I found one on Pinterest, but could find the creator. )

The rating for this is kind of low, cause we don't really know a lot about Chris's mysterious bf, who is reknown as 'Masumi' in some of the fandom. But from the scenes I've seen them together, they Look good with eachother. Cause ig, Masumi is the One who matches with Chris's personality. I don't really have anything to say more.

4) Phichit Chulanont and Lee Seung Gil.

Rating: 7.5/10

We don't really get that kind of scenes with Phichit and Seung Gil together, but from the fanfiction and all, I can say, they'll look good together. Phichit has a Bubbly and Bright persona while Seung Gil is the exact opposite to it. So we can say, that Phichit is like the brightness to Seung gil's loneliness.

Summary:
