if you’re comfortable, could you dive more into your military family/background? like just lil facts or something, whatever you wanna share! i just love learning about stuff like this, learning about other peoples lives, especially because im a huge maladaptive daydreamer and into creative writing, n my current obsession is the military / SAS and im just curious about what things are actually like, from a personal perspective.
and if not that’s perfectly okay!! ❣️❣️
i cant say too much because the family members that have served, many of them have signed different kinds of NDAs (non-disclosure agreements, so i haven’t been told too much) but I can talk about some of my dad’s experience. My dad was in the Navy and he was a machinists mate nuclear. He worked on a submarine and worked on some things and witnessed some things he had to sign NDAs for. He managed to meet a couple of SEALs and had in depth conversations with them. My dad easily dehumanizes folks due to his time in the service, too. He was never special forces, but it’s very important even basic bootcamp teaches you to dehumanize folks. that’s the point of it!!
My dad’s dad was also navy, although i don’t remember his specific rate (rate = job, it’s the navy version of job/MOS or “military occupational specialty”) but i do remember it involved fighting, he was a ww2 if i remember right. My mom’s dad was air force, also a ww2 vet, he was a pilot of some sort, retired now. old bastard is somehow alive 😭 (my parents were born in the 60s).
a hard topic.. one of my babysitters (who is a family friend) is a veteran who went to afghanistan. (reminder im american). he didn’t come back the same and not all of him came back.. and he came back very.. violent if that makes sense?? he never hit me, his wife, or his kids, but he is very dehumanizing. he was some sort of special forces and this guy is messed up.
growing up, my dad wasn’t like.. strict, he wasn’t around too much, but you could tell the military changed his life. he always refers to the family as a team instead of individuals (the military does that to you, strips you of individualism and gives you the team mindset). he’s a great leader and he’s one of my role models as a human being in the real world. i grew up and got educated by him and the internet about the military, so i know quite a lot. if you have any specific questions about literally anything, i can try my best to answer!!!
i’m also going into the military and i’m open to questions abt that :-)

Process and brainstorming the cover for Sons of Mars! I wanted to avoid more straightforward ideas for a cover and go for something artsy, while taking inspiration from the fun bombastic colors of Joshua Middleton's MM Identity covers.

And, process !!

The jump btwn the second to last and last always surprise me whenever I make one of these because I always forget to take snapshots after I start painting. It's always like: oh yeah heres the lineart with some colors- BOOM fully finished✨️
What he's holding are the Austrian imperial scepter and orb, seen below:
Tumblr media
I was going to draw the crown too but decided I don't hate myself that much(maybe some other day), and gave him a golden laurel crown, bcs I'm obsessed with that as a motif, and also its very remincient of the boy king statue that started this whole thing!
There's some symbolism of this, both intentionally but also just historically. I love that the orb represents that the monarch is holding the world in their hand, basically every old monarchy has one of those, and I think it's very cool for symbolism. But also bcs of that, I was forced to basically draw catholic fanart so, you win some you lose some. The star halo above him head is both to reference those religious statues with star crowns(I saw them a lot in Europe and they imprinted onto my brain), as well as: his four championships of course!

okay, so i have a personal headcannon that with the zora, bathing together is pretty normal, especially among friends. its pretty much just like hanging out for them sense they're prolly desensitized to nudity for most part. at least within their race. here's the idea / request ~
the prince and his dear friend / crush hang out n bathe in a lake after a little adventure leaves the reader scraped up. maybe he has questions about hylian anatomy, or maybe the reader has a couple scars hidden under their shirt.
i know this might sound like a weird request but i promise it doesn't come from a weird place, i just think it would be fluffy and cute. 100% okay if it's to weird for you though 😎 but you can't argue that it's not canon.
fem or non binary reader if you're willing to do it though please n thank you <3
"Well, I'm sure we'll get a glimpse of the Lord of the Mountain one of these days," Sidon says as he takes your hand to guide you through the piles of leaves and twigs littering the ground. You're headed toward a lake at the base of the mountain. Both of you are dirty after taking on a lynel that haunts the area, the result of one too many wrong turns trying to find the best route up the mountain. The two of you reenact your favorite moments from the battle and chit-chat occasionally along the way, the sparse silences between you comfortable and warm.
When you arrive, both of you dip your toes into the pristine water. It is surprisingly warm and inviting. Sidon lets go of your hand and starts to remove his armor without hesitation. You watch him for a few moments before realizing you're staring at him, and you turn your gaze elsewhere, hoping your cheeks aren't as red as they feel. You can't resist one last glance at his backside before it is submerged in the water. You quickly look away again as he turns to give you a smile, calling to you to join him. And here you thought you'd be taking turns, backs turned while guarding the other's personal belongings.
Shrugging, you disrobe too. Given his nonchalance about stripping in front of you, and your reassurance that you are wonderfully alone, why not?
You don't feel so weird about watching him when you realize he's doing the same to you. It's not in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable, but you can tell he doesn't feel the need to rip his eyes away from your form as you did with him. For him, it seems the most natural thing in the world.
You hear the tinkling sound of the water as he pulls one of his hands out and gestures to his own chest. "You have a lot of scratches. Right around here."
You look down at yourself. He's right -- you had vaguely noticed the burning sensation there but it hadn't been first on your mind. "Huh. I guess the lynel did do some damage," you say.
He chuckles. "You say that like it's something that happens to you every day."
You wade into the water until it is up to your waist, splashing some onto your face and hair. "It's mostly thanks to you that it didn't do more," you say.
"You're kidding, right? You were absolutely fierce and marvelous, Y/N. A born warrior." You don't have time to reply before he goes underwater, doing some fancy Zora swimming moves before emerging closer to you. His gaze drops but quickly returns to your face. "Do all Hylians have . . . er, I'm sorry, I forget the name . . ."
You look at where he's gesturing and note the difference between the two of you. "Nipples?" you supply, blushing again at the word. "Yes."
He nods and looks contemplatively into the distance. "As a boy, I once saw a Hylian woman in the village with her hatchling to her chest. People were acting a bit strangely about what she was doing, but it involved her . . . her nipple. Muzu told me that I shouldn't stare, that that's how they feed their young. I suppose it makes a bit more sense, now that I see one up close."
You smile at the word hatchling. Things are different for the Zora, but in several ways, they are the same given the anatomy you've just observed on the prince himself.
Without thinking first, you find yourself blurting out, "Hylians don't normally bathe together, unless." You stall by splashing water on your face again. You didn't mean to end the sentence there, but you worry about how he might respond to the idea that it's more a romantic or intimate gesture among Hylians. You don't want him to think you're interpreting this incorrectly, because you know it does not mean the same thing to the Zora.
"Unless?" he prompts you.
"It's, um, more of a romantic thing, if we do it together. Not we, as in you and I, I mean." You bite your lip to resist the urge to babble.
"How curious! So it is a ritual of courtship among Hylians, then." Recognition flashes in his gaze. You haven't the heart to correct him by mentioning that it typically takes place well after courtship has been well established. "Oh. But I do hope this isn't uncomfortable for you with me. Now I understand why you hesitated at first."
Shaking your head, you reply, "It's refreshing, really. The Zora ways. I wish Hylians didn't view things like nudity or breastfeeding with so much shame. So much need for hiding and secrecy, like these things don't exist or there's something wrong with them. Not that I want everyone to walk around naked or anything, but I mean . . ." Now you're babbling. You giggle, close your mouth and submerge yourself entirely under the water before launching toward the deeper end of the lake. You surface several feet away from Sidon and float on your back, looking up at the clouds.
Sidon allows your silence and the distraction for a while and busies himself with doing laps around the lake. You feel an unspoken tension between the two of you. You turn to tread water again when you feel him beside you. "I apologize if my curiosity made you uncomfortable," he says softly. "If there is ever anything you want to know about me or . . . my body, or the Zora, I hope you know I am an open book, Y/N."
"You didn't make me uncomfortable," you say quickly. "And I appreciate that. I think I will, some time." You want to tell him you're enjoying this, that you hope to do this more often, but your conditioning toward awkwardness about these things makes it difficult to speak your mind.
His expression relaxes a bit. "Shall we start back for the Domain? I think we ought to get your scratches looked at, just in case."
You nod even though you wish the moment could last longer. "Only if you promise we can do this again some time. Um, maybe just the two of us, though. I don't know if I'm ready to be naked in front of a crowd yet. Hylian conditioning and all that," you say.
He takes your hand once you reach the shore and gives it a little squeeze. "Understood. And, I promise."

Who's your favorite spider man or spider woman?
I love this question but I can never give a straight answer. I think it’s either Miles Morales or Gwen Stacy (basic answer, I know 😅 I’m sorry).
I think it’s ultimately because we get to see their stories the most in the spider-verse movies, so they just feel like more fleshed out characters. I also feel like I’ve grown up with them, so I can relate to them a lot. And they both have really cool style. If you look at my account, you can tell I really love the Earth-65 aesthetic.
Tumblr media
Now, if we’re talking about the live action spideys: they are all so great I can’t choose 😓.

@artists who take commissions, how do I become a great client?
As a first time (and very nervous) commission requester, I’m looking for some tips and tricks from an artist’s perspective to make the process not only easy, but fun for any artist I work with. Of course, I know it can vary from artist to artist, but it’d be nice to see if there are any faux pas as well!
I have a couple of questions too, feel free to reblog and add-on because I think it can help other potential requesters who don’t know where to start!
Finding the right artist – Is it best to only look for a style you like, or is it best to request from someone within your fandom?
Green flags – What’s a good thing to look for as a requester to look for in an artist?
No vibes, just references? – Most artists ask for references, but are pinterest boards, or photos that illustrate ‘vibes’ helpful? Or are those too confusing?
Budgets – Should budgets be mentioned upfront?
Deposits vs. upfront payments – Most artists I’ve seen have requested a full payment upfront, is it considered disrespectful to ask to pay a deposit or partial and then full upon delivery?
Feedback – What’s the best way to provide feedback? Notes directly on the image? Is there a standard for revision rounds, or is it up to each artist?
Tips – Are tips expected? What is the code of conduct, or consensus?
What do you look for in clients/projects?
Was there anything your favourite clients have done that made your experience with them more enjoyable?
I’ve also been browsing the #commissions open tag, but if your commissions are open, feel free to drop a comment in the notes ⬇️ Hopefully this post gets traction and it can be a resource for others!

I love your oc’s! Your art is so beautiful and I’ve fallen into a rabbit hole about them! I was wondering if you’re willing to share the types of relationships they have with the camp! With someone like Dutch or John or Tilly etc?
Oh my gosh thank you so much!!! :D
Hell yeah I’ll get into it
Mattie + Dutch: She like fully hates the guy, but not for reasons you’d expect. She doesn’t like his fashion sense, she thinks he’s too loud, and she hates his jokes. She just genuinely finds him annoying. (I mean she also begins to not like him for other reasons later but like yk)
Mattie + John: they pretty much only talk when they’re doing a job together or drunk, they have a mutual respect but refuse to talk about personal matters with each other. They’re occasional business partners and drinking buddies but that’s it
Mattie + tilly: they’re around the same age, so they have a silly friendship! Tilly and Karen are Mattie’s favs in the gang, (besides arthur and Hosea) they’re the only ones who can get her to sing campfire songs
Flora and Dutch: she also isn’t very fond of him, but has more respect for him than mattie does. She wants to believe in him, but she can’t get behind all of his philosophies, and actively counters him when she doesn’t agree with what he’s saying (kinda like lenny, who Flora adores btw)
Flora and John: she doesn’t really like the guy all that much in the beginning, especially cause she’s very influenced by Arthur’s opinion of him. She respects him in a gun fight though, and is quite jealous of how tall he is.
Flora and Tilly: they’re super competitive about dominoes. The only thing they talk about and do when floras has her occasional visit in camp is dominoes. It brings out a competitive side in the two of them that is unmatched anywhere else. Insults are thrown, it gets brutal. Afterwards they’re fine though

🔥talk some mad shit on taao
OOOH ok this is gonna take a while and i'm writing this in many places--on campus, after school, on the bus, so forgive me if anything doesn't make sense.
Topics: windblade, starscream, elita, combaticons, combiners, and bumblebee
Windblade:
Disclaimer, I *love* Windblade and I love what she represents (and this could be it’s own mini essay).
However, I don’t think M Scott had those ideas particularly in mind when writing Windblade. Retroactively knowing she intended Windblade and Starscream to have a r*ylo dynamic, paints both of them and their dynamic in a completely different light: Windblade is now no longer her own character, but a tool to redeem Starscream, and becomes a “blank slate or self insert” for this dynamic and purpose. As a result, she’s not really given the opportunity to grow from flaws, and she’s not really punished for mistakes (it’s moreso Starscream paying for her choice to have Optimus Prime reveal himself as the “true Prime” to Caminus, and this is almost always framed as Optimus being in the good and Starscream being in the wrong), it’s moreso that we’re told that Windblade is “tempted by Starscream’s ways/by power, but triumphs over this because she is Good, and is able to redeem Starscream in the process.” We also see others taking the fall for her mistakes, as Chromia takes the fall for the cover up—there is no repercussions on Windblade’s part in terms of trust of Cybertron. (This also serves to take Chromia out of the picture and focus on Windblade and Starscream over any potential chromeblade narratives that could (and did) arise).
I think if I were to fix this, I would look at how the war that affects everyone on Cybertron also affects her, one of the first Camien immigrants. Like… living in this new environment that is *so* traumatized, and you, yourself are traumatized too but in a completely different way. (And this is especially obvious in the first Windblade run, with both her and Chromia’s arcs.) Not the idea that Starscream/Cybertronian politics “corrupts” Windblade, but the idea that living in this environment that has barely started to heal will inevitably rub off on her—in both good and bad ways. And she, being someone on the outside coming in, can see how the factions are flawed and how everyone needs to come together to make Cybertron more of a home than it has ever been. I don’t know if I worded this completely right, but I hope I’m getting my point across.
Starscream:
OOOOH. I could go on and on for days on end. I think the way M Scott handled Starscream’s dysphoria is very transphobic and concluded in a way that’s like “if I were not dysphoric, I would not be evil.” That’s… not what dysphoria does. Starscream would be Starscream no matter if he were cold constructed or forged—maybe just with different problems. Nurture over nature and all that. Another problem I have is due to the established windblade and starscream dynamic, starscream is often portrayed as evil—often to the point of irrationality. While Starscream might not be the best leader, she’s smarter than sending badgeless after random cons and inciting further violence as a result. We get a lot of “tell and doesn’t show” with Starscream’s tactics (and Onslaught’s, as well), and while it would make sense for Starscream to be paranoid (hence the distrust of Windblade) and to try to prepare for a second coming of the war (even if she doesn’t realize that’s what he’s doing by amassing combiner and titan power), some of the actions Starscream takes are outright irrationally evil, just to put that dichotomy between her and Windblade and incite the redemption. Other characters become tools either to show how evil Starscream is (the Combaticons, Rattrap, etc) or to redeem Starscream (Windblade, Bumblebee). I could go on and on about this but I will end it here (for now).
Elita-One:
Again, a case of “tell and don’t show”. We’re told that she’s “another Megatron” but there’s nothing to back that up—why is she another Megatron? What has she done to imply that? She’s traumatized from being hypervigilant over being the one in charge of Carcer (wherein Vigilem and Liege Maximo are incarcerated), and that shows in how she interacts with Cybertron. I don’t think she’d be a good leader for Cybertron—for the same reason neither Bumblebee nor Starscream (nor Optimus or Megatron) could be the right leader for Cybertron. They’re too stuck in the war, though it is possible to move on from it with time and effort. I do think, however, that she’s not this grand villain that M Scott paints her out to be. God forbid women do anything.
The Combaticons:
I could also talk at length about them for days. I think that they have the issue of becoming a tool to show how evil Starscream is, rather than their own characters with their own arcs. Which is a shame, as I think all of their individual arcs and as a whole gestalt could be *so* interesting.
With Blast Off and Onslaught:
We see Onslaught being extremely stuck in the war--he *wants* it to come back because he *wants* that purpose--what does a tactician do when there's no battles to be a tactician for? And Blast Off, who loves Onslaught (and his group), wants peace. Wants rest. Wants that peace and rest for Onslaught most of all. TAAO contextualizes what Blast Off does as a *selfish* thing—he does what he does because he wants that relationship. But that’s *not* what it is. She does what she does because she wants to see Onslaught heal from the war. He (as well as Starscream) knows this can’t happen unless Onslaught is given something new to obsess over—without that something, he’ll go back to the war and vengeance. So Blast Off, in a way, offers herself to be that. This isn’t selfish, in my opinion, because he knows that the relationship is doomed if she does that. Onslaught will find out, and when that happens, any possibility of a relationship will cease to be. It’s a sacrifice Blast Off makes to save Onslaught and the other Combaticons.
Brawl:
Now, I love the part where Brawl goes to Windblade and says he can’t have the war come back. He goes behind Onslaught’s and Starscream’s backs to do so. However, I wish this transition was shown more. He willingly chose to go with Galvatron and continue the war. He’s with Onslaught and Vortex when they want to make Cybertron burn. What changes? He says it’s “feeling what it’s like to die”, but beyond a few moments in Issue #4 and the annual, we don’t *see* this. No feelings of uncertainty at post war or relief when it comes to just staying Starscream’s bodyguard, just a comic relief along with Vortex.
Vortex:
Which brings me to Vortex. He’s reduced to a comic relief character. However, we know he’s an interrogator. I think we should have seen him interrogating bots for information on Swindle, searching it out. And then I think we should have also seen the ramifications of such a violent combination on him, too. (Though that could be said about all the Combaticons).
Swindle:
And that brings me to Swindle. I think Swindle, (and I also think Bumblebee should, too, but that’s a different argument) should be more present in the narrative even when she’s dead. While this is arguably present in the first arc, she’s moreso used as a catalyst for Onslaught’s grudge with Starscream turning into something more, but I think he’s used moreso as an excuse for why Onslaught’s doing all this more than an actual reason. Then Swindle is brought back in an *incredibly* traumatic and violent way. What does this mean for how she feels about the new Cybertron? How the gestalt and combination intimately affects her in ways it doesn’t affect the others? How this —frankly, violation— of her mind and memories for Onslaught’s purposes affects her and his relationship with the other Combaticons? Ooooh the things I wish TAAO went more in depth about. Then, there’s also the fact that he had helped Windblade. How does this affect the relationship between them, especially now that Chromia’s gone? How does this affect Swindle’s relationship with Blurr???
Combiners in general:
This is a problem I have with phase 2 in general, but I wish combiners were used more. They’re A Thing now that the enigma of combination is a prominent artifact. But they’re only really seen as temporary threats. We don’t go into the reason why Starscream wants one, and when that reason fulfills itself, they’re NOT used. We could have used combiners in Titan’s Return, for example!!!
I also think that IDW writers in general don’t really know what they might symbolize. Are they abject? Are they holy? Unholy? A monstrosity or a beauty?
If I was writing a continuity, I would look at combiners as the closest one could go to “being one in the allspark” without being dead. I could go into Augustinian philosophy and theology here, but I won’t (for now). However, they change the members of the gestalt in irreversible and abject ways! They blend together with the other members—they are no longer inherently individual. They are bound to each other.
Bumblebee:
Same as Swindle, really. I wish he was more present in the narrative as haunting it. Their death is the catalyst for many things and adds to others. However, M Scott only really uses Bumblebee as a passive advisor for Starscream. I think TAAO and starbee could be a significantly more impactful narrative if Bumblebee’s ideology and perceptions of things such as factions and power also moved in a way that was more towards Starscream’s perspective, rather than just Starscream becoming more “good”. It would also give us a chance to actually highlight the flaws of the autobot faction without being like “optimus is shitty, prowl is shitty, the primes were shitty, insert cartoonishly evil villains that happen to also be autobots to show how flawed they are”.
Okay, I’m finished. This was not at all all of my opinions and ideas but with a topic as broad as all of TAAO, how could I choose?

i was wondering if you already talked/like the jpop group psychic fever :) idk i feel like you'd like them but if not are there any jpop groups you listen to?
girl i have no clue what is going on with exile tribe i wouldn't even know where to start lmao. i do listen to a few of their units, including psychic fever, but it's mostly ballistik boyz just bc animal is my own personal crack. the occasional jo1 and ini song makes it into my rounds, but i'm mostly a jrock and j...indie? i guess? listener. queen bee and i dont like mondays are two of my mostly listened groups, plus a variety of other artists like taichi mukai, eill, fujii kaze, rung hyang, etc. highly recommend every queen bee song, idlm's black humor and fashion albums, and taichi mukai's the last album. and now im hijacking my own post bc this is now a psa about avu chan's boy group ryugujo!! genuinely fr the only boy group ever actually. highly highly highly recommend literally every song they have and their new ep just dropped last month!
youtube
other songs that fucking rip that are not just me linking their entire spotify page:

It's not for me :/
I try to stay in my own lane whenever it comes to shipping tbh. If I come across something I don't jive with, I just block or filter. I'm especially not interested in making my fandom experience about shipping discourse.
