28.07.2023 || First day of summer. I read a good chunk of my current book, practice Hindi on Duolingo & reading Devanagari script, read a German book for 10 min and watched 1 episode of a Brazilian novela.
But I also watched all of the Grey's Anatomy re-runs after lunch. All of them. At one point I hazily thought "I should turn off the TV, I have exams to prepare for". Then I remembered that I've already passed all of them.
Hehehe.
Now I'm off to do some bedtime stretches.

Love how Richas admin read on twt people accusing bbh to not being willing to learn another language and made it his life mission to not only prove them wrong, but make bbh become plurilingual in three weeks

(Free) Brazilian Portuguese Beginner Resource Masterlist
I've seen a lot of posts for European Portuguese, but none for Brazilian, so here we are! All resources are available for free (or at least have free trials.)
The items highlighted in yellow are what I, personally, use and recommend.
The items with asterisks are closer to intermediate level.
I will continue to update with new resources as I discover them. If you have any suggestions, comment or reblog!

The inspiration behind this post is a text my friend sent in a group chat: “Be ce ta na uni” meaning Bê, are you at uni (university)? I saw this and felt proud of how much Portuguese I’ve learnt because honestly it is a difficult language.

Idk why and idk if I’m the only one but I love using streams in languages I don’t know/dont know much as background or just to watch and pick up little bits it’s so fun!!! It’s literally so fun to watch like cellbit or roier or etoiles and still be able to laugh at their streams if I can understand very little things
It makes me very happy either way, idk if I’m the only one who does it I love it smm

Bagi: Just because you lost your family does not mean you have the right to take away the families of others! And you didn’t even lose yours because your family spent their entire lives trying to find you!
Cellbit: I never had a family and if they- (Cut off)
Bagi: And what is Roier to you?
Cellbit: If they care- (Cut off)
Bagi: What is Richarlyson to you?
Cellbit: If they care- (Cut off)
Bagi: What is Forever? What is Favela? No, "if they care" nothing.
Cellbit: About their own family- (Cut off)
Bagi: They're your family. If I'm not, Roier is. What would happen if one day at night they simply took Roier away- (Cut off)
Cellbit: I am doing this FOR YOU! I'm doing this for everyone!
Bagi: If you want to do something for us- (Cut off)
Cellbit: That is the only way we're going to get it. That is the only.. that is the only way to get any kind of response. Any kind of victory.
Bagi: That's the only way to get your whole family away from you Cellbit. That is what you are doing.
Cellbit: If I need to be alone, I will.
Bagi: You're not going to be alone.
Cellbit: If I have to burn and knock them down one by one alone that's what I'll do. To get everyone out of this fucking place.

German and Portuguese learning on Anki
I'm finally almost done with my German A2 vocabulary Anki deck. I only have 800 new cards left (which seems like a lot, but at the beginning it was 2000+) and if I study 30 new cards a day, I'll finish them in 27 days, just on time for March. I already study 20 cards a day so it shouldn't be that more difficult
Once I am done with the new cards, I won't start the B1 deck like I had planned, but complete every repetition in the A2 deck AND, at the same time, start the Portuguese deck.
While the German decks are shared decks, the A1 Portuguese Vocabulary deck is my own. I couldn't find a shared one that I liked. I plan on publishing it if anyone is interested. It's not ready yet, but almost. It should be around 2000+ words too if I remember correctly. So if everything goes well, I'll be able to complete it by June, which is when my Portuguese exam is supposed to happen.
I haven't been studying much Portuguese lately and it stressed me out to no end but now that I know that I'll focus on it starting at the end of the month, I'm much more relaxed. I need to remember to find an easy book in Portuguese too and to start watching that Brazilian tv series again. But not now! Those are problems for March Me!

nah it's really funny to me that my first full impression of cellbit was him turning up at Phil's lil old wall house and being kinda impressed at the way one of the new guys was taking all the Federation lore so seriously, he seems like a cool guy
now for the last few days I have suffered immensely watching him stack fruit to dramatic music for literal hours of my life

We tend to think languages of different groups within the same family are so much more difficult to learn than languages of the same group until we try to learn a language that is actually from a different family
Sure, as a Portuguese speaker, it's harder to learn English than to learn Spanish, but it doesn't compare to trying to learn Inuktitut or Japanese, than you find out English and Spanish are actually more of less at the same level of difficulty
When you start studying Chinese or Tupi you think "dang, it's not enough to replace a word for another and change word order, I have to think about the world around me in a completely different way, I have to relearn from scratch what it means to speak a language"
