AUTHOR RESEARCH

E.B. Hudspeth is the author of The Ressurectionist: The Lost Work of Dr. Spencer Black, a book about a scientist studying anatomy and creatures not of this world.

This book has always intrigued me as someone who has always been fond of the fantasy/horror genre. Books are generally a large inspiration and influence in my life, and The Resurrectionist falls into the category of artistic inspiration. The studies and anatomy drawings of the creatures in E.B. Hudpseth's book are the kinds of things I've been thinking about for this project especially. I thought of this book as I was researching the sheep bones.

We got the project in! There was a slight problem we didn’t manage to fix on time, but it was a vanity issue and didn’t mean the video was off putting!! So happy that it’s over.

My friends came round and we had fun. We played cards against humanity and ate some pizza. I hope my lactose intolerant friend didn’t feel ill- there were chip shop chips so she could have those but she said she was happy to eat pizza.

Prelims are creeping up quickly. They are over the course of three days which I am not happy about. Going to have to study very hard for chem. I have somewhat given up on maths, so I will try but that’s all. I have a poor teacher though it isn’t all his fault as I must take on some responsibility too.

Played nintendo switch sports and sims today. I am going to see my grandparents tomorrow. They redecorated their tree after I decorated it, and that hurt my feelings. It’s strange.

I am so tired. Even though the project is over I have prelims and christmas to worry about. Additionally another project where me and my friends will build a robot.

I just took a short break from writing this to give my cat some hugs as she was asking for attention. I love her very much, she is sweet.

Today I explored our new brief "Disrupt". I have decided to take the personal aspect of this theme.

I thought this theme was fitting in my personal life as I have misophonia which is the irritation to certain sounds which triggers emotional responses. Sounds with repeating patterns such as chewing, snoring etc can cause an overwhelming feeling. I thought this part of my life fit well with the theme as when I'm focusing on the sounds causing me irritation it disrupts me from the work I was doing or going about my day.

From the workshop I did yesterday I wanted to integrate this idea into the Photoshop skills I learned.

Here I animated a soundwave. I drew each line bit by bit, duplicating the layer every couple seconds to have my desired affect of the line flowing. I found that it took a while to finish this piece. In the future I would like to add sound and edit it to make the piece more interesting.

As the lines were hand drawn they ended up a bit shaky however I think this made the piece more home made and natural.

To finalise this string of posts for this second project, I will be showcasing the final piece that was created.

There was a lot of editing for the assets since I had to do a lot of planning for where things were going to go, the texture I was going to apply and the effects I wanted to create since I was using all the tools available in Adobe Photoshop.

I created the frames in segments before putting them all together.

This is the first frame which focuses on the forest area, this segment is happening at evening as seen by the setting sun. The story is set during the winter season hence the snow and the main character is walking through the forest on route to their destination.

There was a lot of effects and texture I applied to the surroundings to try and create a more natural feel as well as better reflect the time of day. This is personally my most favourite panel to work on.

This is the second frame which focuses on the character climbing a mountain to get to the top, at this point is is late evening/dusk as seen by the sky. The character and the mountain they are climbing are seen as a black silhouette while the animals and mountains in the background are in focus.

This was a personal experimentation of having what is considered to be the background to be the main focus. I was told that I could have improved the silhouette by adding effects to it but I personally liked it the way it was.

Here is the final frame where the main character manages to reach their destination at the top of the mountain where they can watch the lights in the sky.

It was fun working with the lighting effect and textures, hopefully I will be able to experiment with this further in the future.

With these pieces created, I put them into onto a document to complete the whole three cell narrative/triptych.

As part of the requirements, I had to have the final piece printed which fortunately didn't take too long when it came to printing as I had limited time for how long I could stay at my college/university.

camera obscura workshop today. i found this workshop incredibly fascinating as the media that i took was mostly out of focus and not clear to the eye, almost dream-like.. this linked in perfectly with my sleep idea for the temporary project. i took unfocused and candid pictures of people around the canteen and a video in the church, i felt that the echoes and lighting gave me a sense of a sleep walking experience.
