So I picked up Third Strike recently and I've been absolutely loving it. The fact that this pretty old fighting game from 1999 still has a passionate and active enough fanbase for me to still reliably find players around the novice skill level I'm at is really cool, and the game itself is just so perfect in so many ways. I've been playing Rivals of Aether (a plat fighter) competitively for awhile now and while it's cool and all, I've always been interested in picking up and really getting into at least one traditional fighting game. I have Tekken 7 on the PS4 and while I did like that for a bit, it was just a little bit too daunting for me for me to really pursue competitively. I also have UMVC3 but I do literally nothing there but get my ass kicked by the CPU in arcade mode with Phoenix Wright.
But Third Strike is just really fun to me, it feels more welcoming to a newer player like me (which is a miracle for a game from 1999) and the skill floor feels a lot lower while at the same time presenting me with a really high skill ceiling that I wanna strive for. Went from Yang to Dudley to Chun in quick succession and now I think I've settled on Chun. She's really fun I think and she's probably gonna make the game learning process easier. I'm not a tier snob I swear I just think she's cool
Anyways, what I really want to talk about this post is how I got into it in the first place.
youtube
It's this. It's literally just this video. I started Third Strike because of the [SPONGE GOKU SATSU]
I just randomly started listening to Akuma's theme over and over and every time is reappearing in my youtube feed I'd click on it again. Every time I played it I would instinctively lean forward in my chair like I was doing a Raging Demon, too. I was familiar with Akuma because of Tekken 7 and honestly Raging Demon edits are probably some of my favorite content from the FGC. The "loop" of me listening to it only began earlier this month but this isn't even the first time I've been losing it to this video. I think I saw it the first time like 2 years ago lmao.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eventually I reached a point where I was like "hey wait. fightcade's free and easy to set up. why not".
So thanks, Spongebob Raging Demon video, for introducing me to a bomb ass fighting game.

ARC-V Month Day 1: Lights, Camera, Action... Duel!
We're starting off light and sweet with a simple introduction day. Present yourself, the type of content you do, or the charaters you'll be working with- anything goes, just let the audience know of you in your own way!
*deep breath* Well... here goes nothing.
Hello, hi, welcome to my humble abode! I'm Pink, a novice theorist with lots of (unposted) ideas and works, most of which will never see the light of day- but that's not the important part here!
It hasn't been particularly long since I joined the fandom on here, but I'm glad I did; because I got to know and talk to so many amazing people, and saw lots of inspiring creations- even shared some of my own, however few those were until now.
Thus, it's my honor to hold the first ARC-V Month and participate in it as well- yes, despite my crippling inability to stick to deadlines, I will actually fill a few prompts every couple days. My main form of fanwork is text posts and short fics, but I'll occasionally dabble in photo edits and art doodles too!
Oh, speaking of which- here's a quick little commomerative tomato to mark the start of this event. I'm very excited for what's coming, and I hope you are too!

Constructive Criticism: A Guide
Hey everyone :)) Here's a quick guide that I've created for giving others constructive criticism. This is by no means 'all inclusive' and you should of course use your own judgment before sending anyone feedback of any kind, but here a few general rules that I use when writing con crit (as a professional editor) <3
For those wondering, don't worry, I'm still working on another SoC rant and some more poetry but this is just an interesting aside I thought I might post :DD
So without any further ado, the concrit rules:
Firstly and most importantly, don't provide constructive criticism unless the writer has explicitly asked for feedback. If you're asked by a friend to 'let me know what you think' -- this is generally an opening for support, rather than concrit
Be sure to read the text as an objective piece of work, with a clear frame of mind. These may seem like obvious stipulations, but avoid reading anything for the couple of hours before you read the work to prevent your mind being swayed to a particular judgment (e.g. reading a famous poet's work might make you more critical of a novice writer's first poetry). On that point, remember:
You are not here to give judgement! Avoid stating any terms like "Overall, this piece of work is good enough for ...." or "I think that I would rate this work a ../10". Your job is to provide an analysis of the text in front of you, not its value or worth
Okay, so now to the actual concrit. Lets say you've read this person's work and you're ready to give your feedback:
Always open up with your interpretation of the work so that the writer can see what exactly you are thinking as you are analysing. This statement could be something as simple as "The poem that you've sent me was an evocative teenage love story intersected with romantic poetry to show the everlasting nature of love". In the case that you have mis-interpreted the text, this allows the writer to take your further evaluations with a grain of salt and also gives them a subtle nudge to perhaps improve the clarity of their message :)
List your points in size order. What I mean by that is start with the easiest thing that the writer can fix (e.g. your basic line edit including spelling, punctation, grammar, word choice, etc.) and then slowly work down your edit as you reach the bigger ideas (e.g. major themes, overarching concepts, etc). There are a few benefits for doing it this way. Firstly, as a reader, it makes logical sense to evaluate the themes of a text after you have finished reading the entire work; this way you have a greater appreciation for the text as a whole (which is required for a concept) rather than the text as a collection of small parts. Secondly, for a writer who may be using your edit like a checklist, they can quickly 'tick-off' the easy fixes and then work the bones of their text more thoroughly (also its often hard to start editing your work and simple fixes are a good early motivator).
Afterwards, I always like to go for the 'one for one' rule. For every one feature you 'criticise', give one place where the writer as done well. These should generally be linked if possible. I'll give an example, say my friend who is writing the teenage love story has a really compelling plot that falls short due to flat characters....you'd state something like "You create a touching story that could be enhanced through better characterisation." So this way, you acknowledge the work the writer has done and also introduce your feedback. Notice how instead of criticising, I posed the above statement like an improvement. Give the person something concrete to work on!
Expand! Apart from the judgemental trope, the other trap that editors often fall into is writing wishy-washy statements that don't really have a solution. I'm sure we've all been in that english class with that one teacher who circles entire paragraphs with the overly descriptive term 'vague' and not had a clue about what to fix. Don't be that teacher! Try and list as many clear examples of what the author could touch up on and fix (without sounding too domineering of course). For example: "The characterisation of your protagonist Sue falls a little flat because it's hard to have empathy for her. You portray her as an extremely beautiful young woman who is bullied for her good looks but is still really popular....I'd suggest reconsidering how realistic this may be. You have an amazing connection built up between Sue and Alex however, perhaps a greater focus on that rather than so much description about Sue might be more effective :)"
Finally, wrap everything up with a nice (generally uplifting) conclusion. My advice is that no matter how terrible the text you have just read, the writer has taken the steps to go out and send you their work! This is much more difficult that it seems! Congratulate them for their effort, perhaps point out some of the nicest parts of their work. I like to add short quotes from the work that I found particularly interesting at the end. This not only leaves them on a happier note but also makes them feel comfortable and safe about sharing their work and moving to improve it! Remember, you have had plenty of time to talk about the flaws, this is the time to build up their morale and let them work through everything.
Okay, so now you've written out your concrit. Here are a few things you should do before sending it to the person:
Give the text another read! I cannot emphasise how important this point is!!! Often themes or concepts that might not have made too much sense the first time become a lot clearer now that you are in the world of the text. Also you can make sure that your critiques actually match the work :)
Give your concrit a read. Try and avoid basic spelling and grammar mistakes and make sure you don't sound too patronising or rude. Perhaps sprinkle some other nice things in there too :)
Remember, a piece of writing is often someone's baby! It can be personal and vulnerable for someone to hear its criticism. Be kind and supportive in your work!
If everything is good, send through your concrit to the person. Generally I like to wait a few days or until the person themselves reaches out to me again before talking about the text anymore. Give them some time to process; allow them the space to decide what they want to do with their work.
Sometimes, your writer might not take all of your edits on board. That is perfectly okay! You, like any other human being, can be flawed and have opinions that don't align with someone else. At the end of the day, it is not your work that you are giving concrit to and it is entirely the writer's decision of how they want to shape their work. Try not to take ignored concrit too personally :)
So there you have it; a relatively comprehensive guide to giving concrit. Whether it be for the next literary journal you edit or for that fanfiction you've read (with a writer specifically asking for concrit ofc), I hope some of these tips and tricks help you in your editing work :) If you have any questions, feel free to ask me (I love asks, comments and DMs) :))) I might consider doing beta reading here in the future and if you have requests you can also contact me as above!
Concrit is welcome for this article (ironic, isn't it?) cos I've literally written it all in one sitting and not even had a glance over it before posting (terrible writing advice...don't do that) :) Reblogs and likes are also extremely appreciated!!! Anyways, happy editing out there folks :)
Until next time,
Hics <3

Shelterwood: a follow-up and apology
someone reached out to me after publishing my Shelterwood crowdfunding post with some very valid stuff that I want to address. they mistakenly sent it non-anonymously (something I confirmed with them before just responding to the Ask), so in the spirit of keeping things unidentifiable around here I am going to screenshot the entire message (so you can know I'm not selectively cutting anything out) and then I'll respond to it in chunks:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Genuine Apology
so let's start with the first chunk of text:
I'm going to be straight with you: while there were absolutely some points you made about the Shelterwood crowdfund that I agreed with, like how unreasonable the goal seemed for a show produced by a novice showrunner, something's really sticking out here. That thing is that Stephen Indrisano and Nigel McKeon are both young, white, non-binary novice showrunners who secured some high-billing talent and picked unreasonably high crowdfunding goals, but you treated one of them with a lot of grace and understanding... and then turned around and not only accused the other of essentially being the problem with the current state of podcasting, but also called them cis in the process despite having acknowledged their pronouns earlier in your write-up. That was... certainly something. It's almost like you had a specific point you wanted to make, so you just sort of conveniently forget that Stephen is non-binary to make it. That or you don't actually think Stephen is non-binary and were engaging in some passive-aggressive gatekeeping, which also sucks, just in a different way.
this is 100% something I fucked up on, I will readily admit that. my accidental erasure of Stephen's identity as a non-binary person is not okay, intentional or not.
I wrote the initial post gradually over the course of just over a week, top to bottom, and then did a quick skim of it at the end to make sure things were still up-to-date in accordance with any updates to the campaign itself. a result of this is that between when I started the post (where I included Stephen's pronouns of "he/they)" and when I was writing some of the later parts I had forgotten this. I think part of the reason is that the campaign is not really about Stephen, so it isn't like there are consistent references to him as an individual. in the few places there are, such as the intro section of the main text and the FAQ, "he" is used exclusively, which I think mistakenly put that in my mind as Stephen having a male gender identity because I hadn't seen a self-identification as being non-binary on their website or Twitter. but someone deciding to use a specific set of pronouns in the text of something like this (to avoid confusion or for any other reason) does NOT invalidate their use of other pronouns elsewhere. similarly you don't have to outwardly proclaim your gender identity for it to be respected and not assumed as cis.
I am genuinely very sorry about this, it was a mistake and I am in the process of editing the original post to reflect Stephen's proper gender identity.
now then.
let's talk about the difference between Nigel (Among the Stacks) and Stephen and the way I approached them, because you're right that there was a difference.
I think a key way that these two projects differ is that one of them was very clearly made by someone who didn't know what they were doing and was in over their head. Among the Stacks was a clear trainwreck from the moment they started revealing how bloated the cast and crew were. I had many conversations with other creators during that early time where we were all wondering how this thing could function with so many cooks in the kitchen, and how you could have a coherent story with that many characters. it was clearly a product of someone new and over-excited who didn't have a real idea of how to do what they were dreaming of.
in contrast, Shelterwood seems to be genuinely well-thought out and approached like it was created by someone who has done their research and been part of the community for a while. it has a full concept with a clearly outlined size and goals and is a very realistic sounding first project. if it weren't for the goal and the rewards we wouldn't be talking about it at all. as a pitch it is perfectly reasonable.
I went a bit easier on Nigel because just from looking a lot of us could tell that Among the Stacks was going to end in disaster. we didn't know when or how, just that there was no way a project like that could actually succeed. I also knew from interactions between Nigel and other people that she was not very good at taking critique or hearing other people out on stuff that they didn't agree with. I went into that post with the intention of being harsh but fair, because I wanted Nigel to hear what I had to say and LISTEN. not just brush it off as "someone is jealous of my amazing idea and so they are being mean". I was still a bit mean in that post at some parts, I will admit that. my tone can swing a bit far on the sarcastic side, especially the longer I spend on a given post digging into things.
Shelterwood is full of people who should know better, something that it makes a point to brag about. it isn't just one person's dream project that they don't know how to wrangle, Stephen is clearly a proficient showrunner to have pulled all of this together (and I do genuinely find the show's concept to be interesting, even if I didn't really communicate that in the post as much as I could have). Stephen has ALSO been around the block a few times in regards to working on audio dramas, whether or not they have helmed their own. this means that from the start my expectations for them were higher.
my goal was not to accuse Stephen of being "the problem", but I think that this campaign is INDICATIVE of a lot of the "the problems" going on right now with audio drama crowdfunding.
I did seriously think about pulling the last section into a completely separate post, but what I wrote applies to the context of this campaign and so I felt it was important to have that connection. if I had been able to fully communicate my thoughts on it before now, say for the Arden campaign, it would have been part of that post. but it took me a lot of time to get those words down in a way that actually communicated what I think the problem is.
I know having it as part of the Shelterwood post has an implication, and the implication is correct that this campaign is PART of the problem, but it isn't the whole problem.
It's also very weird that you lumped Shelterwood, Arden, Among the Stacks and Afflicted in with The Magnus Protocol, which was on an entirely different level. They're not comparable. Not a single one of those first four shows actually made their crowdfund goals. In Afflicted's case, the all or nothing state of the crowdfund means 100% of that money was returned to backers. The Among the Stacks crowdfund was cancelled. Which means that for 50% of your given examples, literally none of that money ended up tied up in those shows rather than being contributed to other, smaller shows. This is not comparable with The Magnus Protocol crowdfund situation, and I think you know that.
it's 100% true that The Magnus Protocol is on a whole other level than these other campaigns, I said as much in my write-up. it is not comparable and I wasn't attempting to compare nearly $1 million USD to $26,000.
what I was attempting (and may have failed) to do was to point out that what Rusty Quill did was change the playing field for the worse. when looking at those two numbers you can much more easily make attempts to justify the high goals being asked for here, because in comparison that's downright reasonable to what they raised.
as a note: TMP had a funding goal of £15,000 (approx. $19,500 USD). so they weren't actually asking for hundreds of thousands of dollars to make 3 seasons of a show. in fact, what they asked for is less than the campaigns I'm trying to call out here. that Kickstarter has a lot of things that were suspect about it and felt slimey and exploitative, but the asking price was not really one of them.
however.
just because they didn't ASK for that much money doesn't mean they didn't know it would happen (maybe not to that extent, but still). this still had the same impact, which from what I can tell is making some people think that audio drama crowdfunding is for making a profit.
as for the next point about none of the shows except for TMA 2 hitting their goals:
the amount they are walking away with isn't really the point.
at the end of the day, it's about the fact that the more stuff like this happens, the more it is NORMALIZED. and these kinds of goals getting normalized is harmful.
as an example, in the world of video games there is something called "microtransactions". for anyone who doesn't know, these are additional, small purchases you make in a game that you often have already paid upwards of $60-70 USD for. in the beginning, they were marketed as "just cosmetic" and not going to impact gameplay. and so people didn't fight back too hard when EVERY game started implementing them. but of course, what that did was move the bar. it normalized people paying extra money on top of their purchase for something that used to be included for free with a game. and so the companies started pushing the needle further. and further.
now, this isn't a direct parallel for a lot of reasons, but when greed is being put forward as normal again and again (even when it continues to result in failure) it starts to cement it as something "normal". something to be expected.
the larger problem here is that these are unsustainable amounts of money to be trying to get out of the community.
which connects to this next section:
Speaking of The Magnus Protocol, there's also an assumption being made here that someone deprived of the option of helping one of these shows reach their crowdfund goal is automatically going to donate to another show... and I need you to remember that The Magnus Protocol's final tally was something stupid like 4000% of their original goal. Lower crowdfunding goals don't stop people from contributing once that goal has been reached. People just keep donating to that project. None of those people were donating to make sure the thing got made- they were donating because they liked The Magnus Archives, and the hard to swallow pill here is that that doesn't mean they would've contributed to other crowdfunds otherwise. I have my own issues with The Magnus Protocol thing. But the statement that that crowdfund snatched money out of the pockets of smaller shows by having an unreasonably high goal just straight-up does not hold water. That's nothing. It's 4000% less than nothing. You're allowed to be mad that that campaign got such a ridiculous amount of funding when so many smaller shows are struggling. You don't need to couch it in pseudo-logic to justify feeling that way. We're all mad about it. It's okay.
this is definitely a good call-out, this person is right that someone not donating to one campaign does not mean that money will go to another. in a lot of cases, the only reason someone sees a campaign is because it is being promoted by the things they already like (in The Magnus Protocol's case that obviously being The Magnus Archives), and that means they probably aren't going to be choosing between every campaign that is out there and deciding where their $5 is going to go. they might just as easily pocket it and buy a nice coffee the next day.
and that absolutely sucks, because it would be nice for the love that some people have towards specific shows to be something that extends to the whole medium.
but I do think there's something to be said for feeling like even a small donation is making an impact. I would feel kind of bad to only be able to give $20 towards a $10k+ goal, it isn't even a drop in the bucket towards what is needed and if I care enough to donate to something I do want it to succeed. but that same $20 to a campaign only asking for $3000? that's a lot more tangible of an impact. enough so that I could feel good about splitting that $20 between two projects maybe.
that isn't 100% the point of what you were saying, I know that. the reality is that not everyone in this community has a general investment in the success of others.
I think where that becomes the biggest problem is when some people only seem to have an investment in themselves, and no one else. that's where these things become problems, when the larger needs of the community are ignored for the sake of a few who repeatedly succeed.
I'm kind of bleeding a bit into my response to the next part, so here that chunk is:
And do I agree that we as a community need to start talking about what is and is not realistic when it comes to crowdfunding? Yeah, absolutely. You have a point there. That's a valuable and timely observation and I'm glad somebody said it. Unfortunately, the value of that point was absolutely buried by the extremely obvious fact that this time, in this case, something about this project is personal for you. I don't know what it is specifically, but I do feel the need to ask: You are aware that Tal Minear is involved in the show as a graphic designer and minor actor, right? They have nothing to do with the crowdfund or the rest of production. Their name being attached doesn't mean they're secretly running the show. This is not Tal's show. They'd be credited as a producer if they were that involved. So why do you feel the need to keep bringing them up? Anyway, it's extremely difficult to take your analysis in good faith when it's so transparently motivated by some sort of personal distaste for somebody/the people in the project, and that's a shame, because some of the things you're saying have value.
I certainly didn't shy away from pointing a bit of a finger at Tal Minear for promoting this ideology, among others. their clear involvement in this project makes me immediately more suspicious, because Re: Dracula was a self-admitted cash grab. and that stain on their character is not going to go away for me.
it's less that it's "personal" for me, and more that this is a figure in the community that I have repeatedly seen presented as an expert that MUST be listened to. including by themself. ESPECIALLY when it comes to the matter of crowdfunding.
now, if I were friends with someone like that AND they were involved with my project that was about to have a campaign, would I not lean on that resource? even just for advice on how to put it together and what needs to be included. Tal just wrote a small little article for Descript that has some very generic crowdfunding tips, so they are arguably the most knowledgeable person involved in the campaign to go to for advice and feedback.
I know for a fact that Tal has given crowdfunding advice unsolicited to people running campaigns, usually in the form of asking why crew is not being paid appropriately (a valid question in most cases where actors tend to get a huge portion of the budget). so I can't imagine a world where they didn't give at least a little input to a friend for a show that they are actively involved in.
I don't think they are running anything behind the scenes, no, Tal is not part of some audio drama Illuminati. but I do recognize the high esteem to which they are held by MANY community members.
my goal was to call out the culture that has grown around audio drama crowdfunding, and the ways that I've seen it hurting most people who attempt to do it. I have noticed that Tal is a big part of what has normalized that.
as for the ways in which I brought them up, yeah I like to be a bit snide and I probably laid it on a bit thick. it's easy to get carried away in these things, especially towards someone that I am admittedly not a huge fan of.
that is the extent to which it could be considered "personal" for me, but I understand if you don't believe that or if that still had too much of an impact on taking the rest of what I said seriously. that is your choice and I respect it, it's just very difficult for me to separate out their involvement given what I know outside of this.
You're just completely undercutting that value by surrounding it with so much pointless nitpicking and snideness. What happened to "#but actually my intention is to be thoughtful and not mean"? You claim to be acting in the interest and defense of the community, but as the creator of a small podcast that nets me absolutely zero profit, I'm not feeling it. This feels like it's about you, not the rest of us.
this is absolutely fair.
I am just one person at the end of the day. I've talked to others, discussed the situation surrounding this campaign and others like it with them, but I am the one typing it down and inserting my voice and my take on it.
as such, I am not going to be a perfect mouthpiece for everyone's thoughts about this stuff.
I WANT to be one that is largely beneficial, however.
sometimes I lean a bit heavy into the snideness for the sake of keeping things interesting; these write-ups are LONG and as a writer I recognize you have to do something to keep people engaged so they actually absorb what you are saying.
is that the right approach? probably not for everyone, but it is part of a reflection of my own voice that it comes out like this.
"#but actually my intention is to be thoughtful and not mean" is something I wrote, something that I still want to keep in mind but sometimes I fail at that. in this case, I found it hard to stick to.
repeatedly seeing campaigns like this is disheartening to me, it wears me out. there is an amount of what a lot of people might see as "bitterness", but it's not really about any specific project or person.
I think my massive fucking rant at the end of that post about capitalism ruining audio dramas with the need to make money unsustainably says a lot about how I feel about the current financial state of the world. a lot of that "bitterness" is from this deep rage towards to the system, directed outwards where it can be. maybe the flow of it was a bit strong on this one, but it is still an accurate reflection of the way that I see things.
note, an accurate reflection to ME. it's okay if it isn't accurate to you, that's part of why the conversations need to happen.
part of why I do the math breakdowns for the budget is to help myself try and get a grasp on what those numbers mean. the human brain is not really formatted to understand large quantities of things, especially something that is usually intangible in those high amounts like money. I also do it because I want to give someone the opportunity to say "actually, you're wrong because this does add up. you are just missing part of the picture."
I know the way I approached this might come off as defensive, that's not my intention. I decided to break it down like this so that no one would think I'm trying to skip over feedback or ignore certain points that make me look bad.
everything that this person said to me is a valid response to what I wrote, including the things I pushed back on.
I am very grateful that they reached out to me, and I want to continue the conversation. ESPECIALLY if they feel that I did not hear them here.
my responses are just that. a response. they are not a claim of being right or these reactions being unjustified. we are all only in our own heads, and the conclusions we come to are usually based in rationality. my mind is open to being changed, I want to see as full a picture as possible.
if you disagree with what I've said, that is fine.
if you agree with what I've said, that is fine.
if you aren't sure, that is also fine.
we're talking about something complex and nuanced and just because I'm the one bringing these things up doesn't mean I have the RIGHT opinion or that I am the person who SHOULD be saying it.
there is a reason that I am anonymous here, and it's mostly because the conversation is more important than who is speaking.
as always, my inbox and Asks are open.
feedback welcome, I mean that.

hi game, what the heck? seriously, what the heck
venting because i'd like to roughly shake the shoulders of whichever game designer is responsible for this >:( i also know with the time i spent venting, i could have already gritted my teeth and just gotten to where-ever it is i'm trying to get to but it's 1. a vent and 2. not the first time this has happened and doing this again has really annoyed me now lol
so like, i need to get from Ala Ghiri to Coldhearth.
Tumblr media
"look," you say. "there is a convenient passage right there!"
no, there's not. :)
no, there is not. :))
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i google to see if I am just blind, because all i see around me are hills that are too steep for me to climb (I can't fly yet, and this quest is to unlock one of the aether currents.)
the wiki says:
"According to legend, this wind-carved corridor was used by the Destroyer as a sheath for one of his blades. For the local folk, the passage serves as a convenient shortcut when traveling from Coldhearth to Ala Ghiri."
FROM Coldhearth TO Ala Ghiri.
So this is one-way only - which makes sense, looking at the map.
but like.
why though.
Cus right now, it seems like the only way for me as a player to get there is AAAALL THE WAY AROUND? run a SUPER out-of-the-way path that's literally half the map, to get to a point that's within spitting distance?
"it's so you can explore map on foot and take in the sights-"
i've already done that. I did that during the MSQ. there is no need to do it again. I saw all the hills and rocks and Garlean wrecks. They were cool. Please let me continue with the storytelling.
2. "it's for world building purposes-"
Poor excuse- you can have world building without being a detriment to the gameplay to the IRL player.
You dont even have to change anything!! just add a little sparkly spot next to a rock face (JUST like Matoya's Cave) that the player can interact with (after they reach a point in the MSQ, just like earlier in StB when you first arrive at Rhalgr's Reach) that says something like, "you find an illusory entrance that leads into a tunnel/find a secret ladder leading onto the hills, it appears to have been made by the Resistance for ease of travel into the other towns. Cross over?"
3. "chocobo porter?"
none exists in that town :( would be a GREAT idea to implement though!!!!!!!!
(yeah like HEY! porters DO exist, there should be more of them! call them resistance fighter porters or something, if having a permanent one is lore-breaking!! (before freeing it from Garleans - "this seems to be a chocobo porter but the trainer and his bird appear to be away." and then after getting past that point in the MSQ - "hi we're back etc etc port you to places you've been before etc etc")
(Edit: actually this holds great potential for an extra flavor in worldbuilding too. It could be a Garlean-operated porter, and if you try to use it before an MSQ point, it could be used as another narratory glimpse into how the typical footsoldier treats the common civilian. "...why would YOU need to travel? Do you have a permit of leave? Then get back to work, before I report you to your superior."
Or "Authorized Military personnel only, sorry."
Or "stay back! don't even THINK about stealing a bird, savage."
Or "hm? Commoners arent allowed to use the porters... ...it's even worse out there, you know."
OR EVEN for inserting some fun and mild tongue-in-cheek subterfuge: "psst, hey, you're with the Resistance, arent you? Me as well. activity around here has really ramped up, so no one will even notice you on one of our birds ... Our chocobos can etc etc Port you where you've been etc etc"
4. "friend/ask for help/it's an mmo?"
no one is around (else i probably would've /emoted at someone and asked them to do me a quick favor and toss me up there if they had the means), friends are offline b/c i'm a night owl, i could (and have) ask for help in novice network but if it's midnight, i'll be honest - not looking to socialize at that time of the night, esp to ping anyone for something so inconsequential. like sometimes i just want to get my quests done and it's annoying to have to ask someone to drop what they're doing so they can travel all the way to me just to... pick me up and plop me down on a rock-face 5 inches away lol.
5. "just click on the green arrow on the right hand side on the map, that leads to the adjoining area, and if there's an aetheryte nearby you can just teleport to that location and run back into this map, which is still you travelling on foot but it dramatically shortens your travel."
I usually did this for places in Heavensward and I'm sad to say that this doesn't work here, bc that's a location (Porta Praetoria) I haven't unlocked yet. :') WHICH SUCKS BC THE AETHERYTE IS RIGHT THEREEEEE
I COULD JUST-
Tumblr media
AND THEN JUST-
Tumblr media
but noooo. i gotta run all the way around LIKE-
Tumblr media
?????????????????
i really enjoy this game. and i want to love this game, but pleaseeee
its so tiring and irritating watching my poor little meow-meow taking the most dumbass ways around to get to places that shouldn't be an issue this late into an expansion LMFAO - like, i am 6 quests away from end of Stormblood MSQ.
I promise squenix, adding some conveniences won't break the lore/world-building/diminish the value of character exploration.
pleaseeeee.

Definition of Selenium Testing:
At its core, Selenium is an open-source framework designed to facilitate automated testing of web applications across various browsers and platforms. Offering a suite of tools and libraries, Selenium allows testers to simulate user actions, providing a means to verify the functionality of web applications efficiently.
Key Components of Selenium Testing:
Selenium WebDriver:
Selenium WebDriver takes center stage as the primary component responsible for automating browser interactions. It provides a programming interface that enables the creation of test scripts in diverse programming languages, including Java, Python, C#, and more.
Selenium IDE (Integrated Development Environment):
Complementing WebDriver, Selenium IDE serves as a browser extension empowering testers to record, edit, and replay test scripts. While ideal for quick test creation, Selenium IDE is often combined with WebDriver for handling more complex testing scenarios.
Selenium Grid:
Selenium Grid plays a pivotal role in facilitating parallel test execution across multiple machines and browsers. By distributing test cases, Selenium Grid reduces overall test execution time, contributing to a more efficient testing process.
Basic Concepts in Selenium Testing:
Locators:
The identification and interaction with web elements are critical in Selenium testing. Locators, including ID, name, class name, tag name, link text, and XPath, provide the means for testers to instruct Selenium on which elements to interact with during test execution.
Commands and Methods:
Selenium offers an array of commands and methods to simulate user actions. Commands like click(), sendKeys(), and submit() enable testers to interact with elements, making it possible to navigate through the application and validate its behavior.
Assertions and Verifications:
Assertions and verifications serve as tools to validate the expected behavior of web applications during test execution. These mechanisms ensure that specific conditions are met, providing a reliable means of confirming the correctness of the application.
Basic Selenium Testing Workflow:
Test Planning:
Identify test scenarios and requirements, planning test cases based on the application's functionality. A well-thought-out test plan lays the groundwork for a structured and effective testing process.
Test Script Creation:
Utilize Selenium WebDriver to craft test scripts in a preferred programming language. Incorporate essential commands, locators, and assertions to capture the test scenarios comprehensively.
Test Execution:
Execute test scripts on targeted browsers and platforms. Observe the interaction with the application, ensuring that expected outcomes align with actual results. The execution phase is crucial for uncovering potential issues and verifying the application's behavior.
Result Analysis:
Analyze test results meticulously. Identify and report any failures or discrepancies encountered during test execution. The result analysis phase enables testers to debug and refine test scripts, improving their efficacy.
Continuous Integration:
Integrate Selenium tests into continuous integration pipelines. This automated and frequent testing approach ensures early detection of issues, fostering a proactive approach to maintaining the quality of the application throughout its development lifecycle.

@whumper-in-training
ok I don’t know how long my caption is allowed to be, but here it is! The promised fan art! I REFUSE to be self-deprecating here because I actually do like these a lot. Basically, I read this amazing story called ACP- The Agency for Cryptids and the Paranormal, (https://whumper-in-training.tumblr.com/post/673130936584568832/acp-the-agency-for-cryptids-and-the) and I totally fell in love with the character of Zak. This STORY MAN! It broke my heart in half and then lovingly stitched it back together, like multiple times, and I think that’s the ESSENCE of a good story. So yeah I made fan art.
I was in the car on a fairly long trip, and I had my sketchbook, and I was like, hey, what should I draw? Fuck it i’m drawing Zak. So I drew Zak. I originally didn’t want to deal with how the hoodie would work with all the weird perspective and just gave him a tee-shirt, but then I yelled at myself: “COWARD! Draw the hoodie!” And so I erased the shirt and drew a hoodie. I figure that the hoodie in the picrew isn’t how the hoodie actually looks, it’s just the closest approximation you can get with a picrew, so I put an alien on it because yes. While I was drawing it though, I hit a fork in the road with the pose. I was going to draw him with his hand clawed and the other on his hip, but then I was like “what if he had his arm up instead?” And so I made two versions.
I drew werewolf Zak hell ya! I spent FOREVER inking this. Okay if was only like two hours, but inking is kinda boring and thus I procrastinated, and so it took me like three days to ink it. It took much longer than usual Bc I went over each line a bunch of times to make it look like fur/hair/eyelashes, but you can’t even see it Bc the colors are so dark! Argh! Usually color more than doubles the amount of time I spend on a drawing, but this time I just quickly threw down some color in only like an hour! I was so sure I was gonna say, “it’ll be quick” and then spend another six hours on it, because that ALWAYS happens, but it actually WAS quick so yes.
Last but not least, I drew the gang all together! Technically I drew this second, and colored it first, but you get the idea! This drawing filled me with all the happy chemicals the whole time making it y’all. After several hours it kinda wore off, but every time I zoomed in on Max’s face I got a fresh rush of serotonin. I decided to draw that one scene where they all fall asleep together because it was SO WHOLESOME! I wanted to draw the whole group, but didn’t know what kind of context to do. Then I scrolled through the blog, found that scene, reread it and was like “yes! That’s the one!”. And so I drew it. I did have to look up “do Muslim women sleep with their hijabs on?” And i’m glad it was a google search and not asking a real person Bc the response I found was basically: “No, you dumbass! Why would we do that? That makes no sense-” and several sarcastic responses to the same question on Quora and i’m just like: “:’D” I did look into it a bit more and realized the hijab has to stay on Bc while they are like family, they’re still not her mahrams. Also I figure that if I was gonna post this, even if she was alone, drawing her without it would kinda be violating her privacy yk? Like i’m exposing her for the whole internet to see. Kinda like drawing her naked would be. Anyway, I love this drawing, hope you love it too!
Ok, still keep your expectations to an army crawl because I never finish stuff, but fanfic is in the works. I am probably gonna wait until it’s finished to post it though, that way I can edit things and change earlier chapters. Also! I’m a total novice writer! So it’s probably crap! I don’t care! I have this policy that I would always rather make the cringe fanfic, wear the ugly clothing, make the stupid drawings, the cursed memes, shout all the embarrassing shit, do all the dumb things that teenagers do (as long as it’s not harmful or permanent obvi), sing all the bad karaoke, embarrass myself a TON, etc, and regret it later, cringe so hard in ten years, than to never let myself do anything, constantly hold back, never reach my full potential and regret THAT in ten years. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk. I still might very well be too shy to post it though ahhhhh. For some reason i’m WAY more shy online than irl, that makes no sense. Like I can walk up to a random person and talk to them no prob, but I get super anxious going in someone’s ask box. Maybe Bc I can’t read their body and face language like that? Idk. Like I said, just don’t expect anything.

Silent Reading chapter 51.
1. I love how priest writes Luo Wenzhou. He's gay and in his interactions with women he of course is not charmed or particularly soft for them, he's nice as a public figure responsible for lowering danger but like clearly compared to playboy Fei Du he's rather indifferent to women, compared to Tao Ran he's not as innately warm. In this scene the fact he IS a bit soft on men, especially men who seem to be being friendly and nice, and handsome. We knew this vaguely cause he's kind to Tao Ran more than the other colleagues but he has a "crush" on Tao ran and Tao ran is his decades old best friend. So far the other men he's interacted with are potential enemies, suspects, etc. At most he's flirtatious in a dangerous "fuck you" mocking way (also incidentally he's initially that way to fei du but softer lol). This is a nice bit of Luo Wenzhou recognizing he really is too easily swayed by a sweet, pretty man asking him for a favor. It's cure.
2. I love how it's also Fei Dus response in a way to Luo Wenzhous birthday lecture of "Do something with your life!" Like a kid who went off and accomplished some stuff, then came back to their parent to rub it in how busy and successful they've been so stop looking down on me as directionless, Fei Du showed up and listed "I'm enrolled in school, got an article published, I'm quite a novice making my way with Talent" (haha dad fuck you I DO have direction, direction you'll be impressed with, I even picked the same field as you!). Which. Wow I think about fei dus actual dad and.... (I mean in a way he did this with his actual dad too but not to impress him but to prove he's better stronger and can control and destroy him and his accomplishements). Fei du wouldn't want to be like his father by choice, it's a necessity for him to have the money power and influence to investigate. But fei du DOES wanna be like Luo Wenzhou and help people too, does want to brag to him. It's sweet and a nice follow through.
Quote:
Can you sneakily get me in to talk to Su Luozhan?” asked Fei Du.
Luo Wenzhou came back to himself and thought, Isn’t that nonsense?
He was planning to flatly refuse, looked up, and saw Fei Du leaning on the wall of the corridor opposite him, eyes lightly focused on him. He very rarely noticed Fei Du’s eyes, because among adults, unless they were planning to fight or date, they wouldn’t constantly be looking into each other’s eyes; and in his impressions, all the looks Fei Du gave him were mocking, cold, satirical…each raised eyelash shouting in chorus, “Looking at you is displeasing.”
Never before had his look been this peaceful and harmless; accompanied by that “sneakily” Fei Du had just spoken, Luo Wenzhou imagined he tasted a trace of softness. He went still, the “Bullshit! What are you joking about?” he’d been about to blurt out not leaving his mouth.
Such is the inherent weakness of a man!
Luo Wenzhou internally lamented, but his tone involuntarily softened a great deal. “I’m afraid that won’t work. It’s against regulations.”
“Didn’t you let me listen in on an interrogation last time?”
“Our leader specially authorized it.”
“Then have him authorize it again. I’ve already talked directly to Su Luozhan, anyway.” Fei Du displayed his habitual, somewhat irreverent not-quite-smile. “And moreover I’ve written a little article concerning studies of ‘victims,’ which fortunately happened to be read by a certain teacher some little time ago and collected in the third edition of an academic text on a related topic. Oh, on that note, this April I was enrolled into Yan Security Uni’s applied psychology post-graduate program. Come September, I’ll be halfway to being an insider in your system.—Captain Luo, how about you call and ask that very quick and able leader from last time?”
Luo Wenzhou: “…”
When the fuck had all this happened!

A Trial To Remember
Characters: Rhen D., Lars T., Lorad R.
Idea: Again, just wanted to flesh out parts of the game, so why not Rhen’s sword-singing trial? :D
This is for the anonymous ask who requested it. I posted this on the forums but somehow never posted it here. Note, I might’ve edited it directly on the forums itself, but this one here is the draft straight outta my folders, so there might be lots of typos/grammatical errors, and I don’t have time to fix them. I might, later when I’m more available.
--
"Sword Singing novice students are required to undergo the mandatory trials. These trials are held to determine if novices are deemed worthy to be promoted to the next rank - apprentices. They will be held at the Shadwood field with the respective mentors. Students are required to be present by noon and no later. Latecomers will be penalized."
Rhen slapped the parchment shut and stared at it. It was wrinkled and almost torn at the folds, thanks to her constant fiddling with it. Taking a deep breath, she stuffed the parchment into the folds of her clothing and rolled her shoulders.
"Calm down. You're ready. You're SO ready for this."
This was it. The apprentice trials she had trained so hard and countless days and nights for. She'd mastered every move her teachers had taught her and had excelled in both her practical and theoretical classes. So why was she so nervous?
"Because of Lars Tenobor, that's why."
Rhen groaned and covered her face. Why was she letting that jerk affect her, especially now of all times?
"Because he excelled HIS apprentice trial easily, remember?" she answered herself again.
The sorcerers' apprentice trials were held a week before and had caused a big hoohah in the Academy. Rhen hadn't been interested in attending it because one, she wasn't a sorcerer, so what was the point? And two, she had better things to do anyways, like train for HER own upcoming trials. But her friend Missy had dragged her along, yakking on excitedly about how it is THE trial of the year, how just about EVERYONE is watching, and will she stop being such an "annoying needlehead and watch the damn trials already"?
So Rhen had forced her legs to walk to the field, arms crossed awkwardly across her chest as she stood amongst her fellow sword singers and the sorcerers. She'd planned to linger at the back so she could make a quick getaway when it was done - but Missy had pushed her to the front of the crowd and she'd stumbled into a clumsy stop.
In the middle of the field stood the very person she loathed, giving his wooden staff a few warm up swings and occasional grins to his devoted, cheering audience. She tried blending back into the unrelenting crowd but the commotion attracted the attention of Lars.
Rhen groaned as she recalled the conceited look he had directed at her.
"Come to watch me, Peta?" he had said, tossing his staff in the air and catching it easily.
"No."
"Hm," was all he said, accompanied by an eyebrow raise.
"Just here to check things out, so I know what I'll be facing next week," she replied unconvincingly.
Lars laughed. "Very funny, Peta. Thanks for the joke, I really needed it. But you will never EVER face anything nearly as amazing as what you're about to see."
She had bristled, uncrossing her arms.
"Oh yeah?"
"You heard me."
Things then escalated from there when she lost her temper and got herself into a heated argument with Lars. The cheering crowd simmered into an unsettling silence, although none of them had noticed.
"I am JUST as good as you are!"
"Whatever you say, Peta-"
"I bet my trial's going to be better than yours, too!"
Lars had started walking away, but he paused at those words and faced her slowly, a serious look on his face. He eyed her for a moment, then a slow smile formed on his lips.
"Is that a challenge?"
Rhen had been caught off guard but she lifted her head in defiance, heart beating fast. "Yes," she replied, her voice strong and clear across the quiet crowd.
"So be it."
Then it began. The whispers, the gossip, the news, spreading like wildfire throughout the Academy. It didn't help that there were many witnesses at the time of the issued challenge and that one of the PROFESSORS had taken an interest in it. He even told Lorad, her mentor and teacher, about it.
"Why didn't I just shut my big mouth?"
Rhen leaned her head against the Academy's stone wall and sighed, cursing her inability to keep a cool head. Now the whole Academy was going to watch her fight her way through the apprentice trials. All eyes would be on her. And worse of all, the brat HIMSELF would be watching her.
What if she FAILED -
"No! Stop it. You can do it. You've prepared for this." She slapped her own face, attempting to remove herself from her own self-inflicted misery.
"Five gold says she will fail the trials," came a loud voice from across the hall.
Her jaw dropped. Quickly, Rhen peeled herself away from the wall and tiptoed toward the wooden door. She peeked through the cracks to see Missy and another sword singer.
"Caleb! How could you? 10 gold says she's going to ace it." That was Missy, and she gave Caleb a hard whack on the arm.
"A lot of confidence you have there," replied Caleb as they walked further down the hall.
"Of course, she's my friend. Also that Lars boy has been giving her nothing but misery ever since they both stepped into the Academy," was all Rhen heard before they rounded a corner and disappeared. She grinned at that, silently agreeing with Missy.
That's right, Lars HAD been giving her nothing but misery ever since the day she struck him with a spell - unintentionally, mind you - through a stick back in Ghalarah. All she'd wanted to do was attend her classes and excel in her subjects in peace.
But no, he had to spread rumors that she became a slave because she was a thief.
That's it, then.
Rhen gave herself a determined nod and took a deep breath. She's not one to back down easily - oh, NEVER, she was Rhen Darzon after all - and she reached for her sword and headed for the field.
----
The atmosphere was electrifying.
Rhen knew how many students the Academy had; she just didn't know it was this many.  The surrounding observation decks were filled - all three tiers. Those who couldn't find any seats were forced inside the buildings, looking out through the windows.
The crowd made up of red and blue flecks - red, the color of the sword singing uniform, and blue, of the sorcerers'. Sword singing trials don't usually interest the sorcerers; but because it involved Lars, who was basically the most popular and well-loved boy in school, and Rhen, the girl who dared challenge him - and a sword singer at that -
This added to her anxiety. Her palms broke out in sweat and she wiped them on her uniform, forcing herself to take in deep breaths.
Quickly, Rhen made her way through the thick crowd. To say she struggled was an understatement. She made her way through easily, for the crowd seemed to part and back away as if she had the Plague. All eyes were on her.
"Hi," she muttered nervously to nobody in particular. After awhile she just gave up and headed toward her fellow students who were also taking the trials.
"Darzon! You're almost late," Lorad called out to her.
Rhen winced.
"I'm sorry, Professor Rethwell. I was having a little... trouble."
Lorad clucked his tongue and shook his head gently. "Alright, get in line."
Only ten sword singing students were marked as ready for the trials that year - Rhen being one of them - and her name was last on the list. She hoped that that would make the crowd lose interest and leave the field; one trial alone could take up quite some time. But the crowd didn't seem to change even when the number of students in line before her dwindled. In fact, there seemed to be MORE people, and Rhen wondered how that was possible.
Very soon it was her turn.
She watched as the boy before her got dragged away from the field by two other students, lying limply in their arms. Rhen swallowed hard. That was the sixth student to fail the trial today - she hoped she didn't make a seventh.
"It's your turn now," whispered Missy, "good luck and may the Goddess guide you!"
"Thanks."
"And the next and final student, first in her class, sword singing student Rhen Darzon!" Principal Harald announced. The crowd went wild - or rather, the sword singing side of the crowd, waving and cheering. The sorcery students watched on in stony but intrigued silence, watching her and exchanging occasional smirks.
Rhen spotted Lars in the first tier at the very front. Typical of Lars to get the best seat, she thought. He was watching her with a snide and knowing look, raising his eyebrows at her.
Ignoring him, she grabbed her sword and ran into the middle of the field, where the person in charge of conducting her trial was waiting. Lorad was holding a heavy sword twice the size of her own and a shield that could probably crush her if she wasn't careful-
She pushed the thought from her mind and plastered a smile on her face. He returned it kindly.
"Ready? Just like I've always taught you."
"Ready."
"You're my best student, Rhen... I want you - no, I NEED you to pass these trials."
"I... I'll try," Rhen stammered.
"Because you can't let that sorcerer boy win," said Lorad, with a wink. She burst out laughing at that and tried to compose herself. She nodded determinedly. "I won't."
Lorad gave her a quick bow. She could feel her heart hammering in her chest as she followed suit. The crowd quietened down as Lorad and Rhen drew their swords. They circled each other, each looking for an opening to strike.
Her professor was the first to strike. He swung and thrusted his heavy sword with lightning speed, actions almost impossible to follow. But Rhen, quick and alert, had no trouble matching Lorad. She was much lighter and smaller in size compared to him, and she used that to her advantage - striking when there was an opening and retreating when needed. Their blades flashed and clanged repeatedly, ringing and clashing.
Lorad evaded her spells and songs easily, and it frustrated Rhen to no end. Already she's been struck thrice by his own, and if that kept up she would be the seventh student to leave the field without passing the trials. That motivated her, and she continued giving her best.
In the midst of sidestepping one of Lorad's spells Rhen's foot slipped on a smooth patch and she fell backward onto the ground. The crowd gasped.
Groaning, she touched something cool and slippery, something that felt like -
Ice?
Bewildered, she looked at the ice patch, which started to melt under the sun.
How is there ice on the field, in Veldarah, where it was summer all year long?
Somebody laughed.
Rhen narrowed her eyes, immediately recognizing that obnoxious laughter. She looked up angrily and saw Lars laughing with his friends. When he realized she was staring at him he quickly put on a straight face and the icy blue tone on his fingers disappeared in a puff. He stared at her, feigning innocence.
Why that little -
"Rhen, watch out!"
Rhen instinctively rolled away, narrowly missing Lorad's sword as it came swinging down heavily and piercing the ground where her head was just a moment ago. She stared at it in horror, then back at Lorad, where the call of the Siren was on his lips. The yellow energy that accompanied his blade - mere inches from her face - dissipated into thin air. She thanked the Goddess for the narrow escape.
Before Lorad could yank his sword free she raised her own and sang, "Slide Thrust!"
Her sword burnt a bright crimson and a burst of red energy exploded from its blade. The force sent Lorad flying through the air and he landed hard on the ground, the wind having knocked out of him. Swiftly Rhen kicked his sword in the opposite direction - then ran up to him and gracefully pointed the tip of her blade at his throat.
For a moment there was silence - a silence so strong Rhen started to wonder if she'd killed her professor. But then Lorad flashed her a smile and the crowd went wild, erupting into a myriad of cheers and catcalls. Grinning, she slipped her sword back into its scabbard and helped her professor up.
"Extraordinary!" boomed Principal Harald's voice. He was clapping along with the others and smiling hard. "Marvelous!"
Lorad held her hand and proudly raised it in the air
The crowd's response was overwhelming. Rhen drank it all in, still unabled to believe that she had passed her apprentice trials.
But it wasn't over yet.
She scanned the crowd and found the one person she was looking for. Pressing her lips together, Rhen gave Lars a curt nod. He responded by rolling his eyes. Then, for reasons she couldn't comprehend, she found herself approaching her nemesis. Lars looked equally confused as she rapidly closed the distance between them.
"So," Rhen started.
"What do you want," he snapped.
"Nothing. It's just... I passed my trials."
"I never said you wouldn't."
"Yes... but you did say I'd  never have one as good as yours. I believe the actual words were 'You will never EVER face anything nearly as amazing as what you're about to see.' Well,  what do you think? Was my performance anything nearly as amazing as yours?"
"Hardly," replied Lars haughtily, but he wouldn't look her in the eye.
"Really?" she responded. He was fidgeting uncomfortably in front of her and she was enjoying every moment of it. Rhen decided to add more fuel to the fire. "Because I think the crowd begs to differ."
Lars looked up and around him. The cheers had decreased a notch but the crowd was still excited and hyped. Most of them seemed to have noticed the both of them talking too, judging by the way they nudged their friends and the way they were looking over curiously. This made Lars angry.
"What are you staring at?" he growled. Then he rolled his eyes. "Whatever. What a waste of my time." Saying thus, he turned to walk away.
Rhen watched his retreating back with a satisfied grin.
"Oh, that felt good.”
