Did ya’ll know I’m a professional editor? Got a certificate from UC for it and my own hard copy of the CMOS 17th Edition and everything. And I was thinking, “Hey, it could be fun to keep in practice with random people on tumblr!” SO:
Send me Asks with any editing questions, and I’ll give you my best answer! (I will speak as plainly as I can, as 1) not everyone understands the technical terms of professional editing, and 2) I don’t always understand the technical terms of professional editing. I know how to DO it, though!)
Send me an Ask with a sentence or paragraph (of reasonable length) you would like edited! If you aren’t comfortable with me editing your work on my public blog, make sure to request a private reply. (Please also keep in mind that this is a strictly PG blog and I won’t post anything I’m not comfortable with.)
The Ask Box and Anons are currently open! Let’s see if I get any takers! :D
(Please Note: If I get a lot of submissions and/or don’t get to yours, it is not personal!)

Hey. Hey you.
I know it's hard to speak up about Palestine.
You may be scared, afraid to get backlash.
You may be a minor and have parents that are overprotective of you or worse, are neutral about the whole thing or is supportive of one side.
But you don't need to speak up about Palestine on your own post. You can always reblog a post with the click of a button. Reblog posts just like this one.
I know it's hard to do much and I know you're sometimes feeling like you aren't doing enough. But you can take it with little steps at a time.
Don't stop talking about Palestine. Your voices need to be heard.

If you haven't heard, otw (in other words ao3) have forced a volunteer to resign because they had "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" as their status on messaging platfrom slack, which otw use for communications.
They were denying that Israel is an apartheid settler state or that the genocide in Gaza is even happening.
This is unforgivable in my opinion, and I have sent a message to otw through their official contact form here, and I suggest you do the same. Below you'll see my message as well, in case you want to copy and paste, or just use it as a template of sorts.
I urge you also not to donate to otw anymore, unless the zionist volunteers and members of otw are removed from their positions and banned from otw.
"I am disgusted and enraged about the treatment of otw volunteer bjorn due to their pro-Palestine message status on slack, and even more so about the fact that zionists are allowed to run free amongst otw/ao3 volunteers, claiming that what Israel is doing in Gaza is not genocide, and claiming that Israel is not an apartheid settler state. As a person who has donated to the otw many times i wish I could revoke my money. But also as a donor I as well as many others demand the otw to resign fully, ban all zionist volunteers, have a written apology to bjorn and all users repudiating zionist actions in Gaza, donate to the Red Crescent to support Palestine, and reinstate bjorn as volunteer. If this is not done I as well as many others will no longer post on ao3, use it, volunteer for it and definitely not donate any more. You should be ashamed of yourselves. "
From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free. 🇵🇸
PS. If anyone decides to start talking about ao3 tagging systems or content allowed on the platform on this post you are getting blocked immediately. I dont care about your views on this, and you should think for 2 seconds before putting silly fanfic discourse on the same level as the murder of thousands.

Editing question: in a fantasy book, what ratio should "describing the world" to "main story line" be? Or, at least, what do you recommend?
Thanks for your question! I think a lot of this depends on your writing style; some authors are going to focus primarily on the main storyline and keep it fast-paced, but others (like Mr. Tolkein) are going to weave in a ton of worldbuilding. Both of these can be done very successfully!
From a purely editing standpoint, I typically look at how the placement of the worldbuilding is affecting the story's flow. Am I getting bored or forgetting what the characters were doing because there is such a large amount of exposition in the middle or beginning of a scene? Could some of the information be condensed to be more easily digestible? Conversely, is the story barely mentioning some piece of worldbuilding that I think would be FASCINATING to learn more about, and would appreciate the author dwelling on for a moment? I think there's a good balance to be found there, and if I'm doing more thorough editing (copyediting or developmental), I'll probably leave a comment on the document mentioning what I think could help the scene flow a little better. Overall, I wouldn't worry about it too much in your first draft; trimming stuff down or fleshing things out is something you can typically do on the second draft after you get the overall story nailed down. =)*
(*I say this, but I myself definitely tend to fiddle with scenes and add/subtract stuff in the middle of my first draft ALL THE TIME XD This isn't a hard and fast rule, just a suggestion that sometimes helps people finish.)
One helpful tip that I have run into myself (in my own fantasy setting) and had pointed out to me by other readers: Try not to throw in too many new, fictional words and names right off the bat. It can be a little difficult for readers to get a grip on the story if they're dealing with a ton of new vocabulary, and a lot of worldbuilding can be woven in more gently throughout the story as bits become relevant. You can always dedicate a few pages to describing the more intricate nuances of your magic system after we're already invested in the hero's trip to the citadel to avenge his grandparents' burned unicorn farm, or what have you.

mini dedication essay to black simmers and ts4 creators below! pls read if you have the chance! <3
this edit is a small homage to afrofuturism and the various unique black hairstyles (and especially the black creators of most of these hairs) that i have downloaded and admired over the years! some of these are old and some of these are new.
to me, afrofuturism means constantly honoring/reclaiming/challenging the past while constantly creating/dreaming of a better society/world/future. a society/world/future that embraces and empowers all of our differences, ingenuity, aspirations, and unique lived/cultural experiences. a society/world/future that does not limit us through the various systems of marginalization and oppression (racism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, sexism, xenophobia, ableism, classism, colorism, etc.) that often affects how we, as black people, live today.
blackness is so diverse and intricate yet it's always been a struggle to find my culture within a game that's known for being so limiting, bland, and extremely eurocentric when it comes to hairstyles, clothing, food traditions/events, etc. black simmers have always had to figure out how to make this game more inclusive and make it resemble either more like how our ancestors lived, how our current lives are, or how we would want our lives (and even our children's lives) to look like in the future no matter how dystopian the real world look and feel now. fortunately, these hairs and their uniqueness bring a huge sense of culture and style to this game. they have always inspired me and made me feel extremely proud to a part of the lovely african diaspora (and the ever-growing black simmer community).
in a way, being a black simmer and cc creator usually means that we are often digitally creating our own worlds as afrofuturists to varying degrees (whether we know it or not) every time we open our game, make our sims, make houses, and/or make black cultural cc. also, now i know that cc making is not easy to do and is extremely time-consuming so this post is also just me giving all black cc creators especially those who create for free their well-deserved flowers! here are some other black cc creators who created cc that have greatly impacted my game since i first started playing sims 4: @/leeleesims1 @/simtric @/hi-land @/yuyulie @/sims4bradshaw @/ebonixsims @/xmiramira @/sheabuttyr @/qwertysims @/oplerims @/sleepingsims @/shespeakssimlish and so many more im forgetting probably (im too shy rn to tag ppl but i greatly appreciate y’all fr i hope y’all telepathically get this message somehow 😭).
last but not least, i am hoping that this inspires somebody to keep creating or start creating regardless of what they think their skill level is! somebody will absolutely fall in love with your work and/or your art/work will 100% change someone's game forever <333
